Crushing On You (Kirishima, Tamaki, Toyomitsu (Fat Gum))

Ion know bout y’all, but I consistently act weird around my crushes. That being said, I also can NEVER tell when someone has a crush on me (although I’m told its obvious). So let’s commemorate that, shall we? 
A/N: This one is dedicated to the lovely @kirislut​. She passively told me to write this and I was like yeah! And then proceeded to take 2 months to do it *sigh*. But yeah stan her or face my wrath >.<
Warnings: None! It’s fluffy. Y/N is written to match the age of the character (so a first year for Kiri, third year for Amajiki, late 20s for Fat). 
Kirishima Eijirou (xBruh!Y/N)
Kiri would be crushing on you for a long time before he even realizes he’s crushing on you. 
You would be a part of the Bakusquad,  and you also made an effort to stand up for yourself against Bakugou, and something about that really got to Kiri. 
You were somehow so *manly* while also so hot AND cute? Damn, how do you do it? 
Not that he understood that he saw you in such a light.  
Because Kiri doesn’t realize he has a crush on you, he wouldn’t necessarily be super blushy or flustered at first. 
When around you, he’s showering you in compliments.
When you aren’t around, he’s constantly bringing you up in conversation. Every conversation. With every single person. 
He would also team up with you to tease Bakugou.
And you already know that if anyone had anything negative to say about you, then he would stand up for you in a heartbeat. 
He really admired you, to say the least. He loved being around you. That was all (he thought).
That is, until the bros™ decided to give him a talk. 
“So..Y/N?” Is all Sero would say. 
And obviously Kiri smiled at your name, but didn’t know why they were bringing you up. 
“Are you gonna ask them out anytime soon? If you wait any longer I might just do it myself,” Kaminari tries to playfully nudge Kirishima into understanding. 
“Ask them out???” Kiri is now in shock! Because where did this come from!
That being said, his face also got as red as his hair, and the thought of you hugging him or staring back at him felt like a really pleasant idea all of a sudden. 
“Oi, shitty hair, don’t tell me you don’t recognize your own feelings. Are you really that much of an idiot?” Bakugou asks, his tone irritated and disinterested.
Although, he’s kinda invested in seeing you two get together at this point. The whole squad was. 
And then it hit the man like a truck. 
Shit! I have a crush on the coolest, strongest, most amazing person I know. 
After this point, he doesn’t know if he’s ready to ask you out yet. But he definitely starts acting differently. 
Usual shoulder leans and elbow nudges now make him feel like Kaminari was electrocuting him.. 
Any compliments you sent his way would cause Kiri.exe to stop working.
And your smile would make him feel starstruck. 
It was a breaking point when a school sponsored dance came around and you showed up looking like a WHOLE SNACK in the most elegant dress/tux/(whatever badass clothes you wanna be rockin). .
Kiri straight up would not look at you. He fully refused to turn his head in your direction, which was hard because the Bakusquad decided to spend the whole time there together, which meant he wasn’t leaving your side. 
“What the hell are you doing?” Bakugou was so confused (I mean same. Kiri THEY LOOK LIKE A SNACK why aren’t you basking in their glory jeez).
“SHHH Bakugou. It’s not manly to stare…” 
Kiri was worried that he would ogle you into discomfort, jaw dropped and eyes wide because his heart would burst upon looking at you for too long. 
In turning his head, he didn’t notice Kaminari and Sero approach you, whispering into your ear.
It was only when you came up and tapped him on his shoulder that he turned around and looked at you, you smiling at him. 
“Hey Kiri, do you wanna dance with me?”
Hey would pause, because he was really flustered, but then he would flash his huge toothy grin and gladly take your hand, pulling you onto the dancefloor to dance with him into the night. 
BONUS: While dancing with you, Kiri would only look at your face and refused to look at your feet, causing him to stumble a couple of times. 
And naturally, you would ask him about it. 
He would blush but explain, “I didn’t want you to think that I was staring down at your body and making you uncomfortable…”  
WANDERING EYES ARE NOT MANLY! change Kiri’s mind. 
You would laugh and respond, “Hey, if you need to look at our feet to make sure we don’t trip, I don’t mind.”
But you would then pull close to him, wrapping one hand around his neck and speak quietly into his ear-
“And if you wanna look at the rest of me while you're at it, I wouldn’t mind that either.” 
Kiri.exe has stopped working once again. Good job Y/N! 
Amajiki Tamaki (xGentle!Y/N)
Tamaki would have a crush on you after being your friend for a little while. 
Like at first he was super nervous around you because people are nerve inducing and scary (I feel ya buddy its ok).
Over time though, you guys became closer friends. He realized how gentle and sweet you were.
You would spend a lot of time together, studying, going to get food, and training together.
You also would spend late nights together, especially when one of you was stressed or having a panic attack. You kept each other safe. 
It wasn’t a surprise to Tamaki when he found himself wanting to spend more time with you. 
It didn’t shock him that he loved looking into your eyes. 
He felt himself, and watched himself, fall in love with you. 
But despite that, he wasn’t really as awkward about it as you would expect him to be. 
Your entire relationship had been very wholesome and close from the start, and because he was aware of his feelings from the get go, there wasn’t any real shock. 
Ultimately, you were his safe space, and he would rather not compromise that by bringing his emotions into it. He was content to love you from a bit of a distance. 
In a non creepy way, he loved to watch you. He knows looking at people you love or feel safe with is a really good way to calm anxiety and ground yourself, and that’s what Tamaki does all the time with you. 
Just watch you work or eat and laugh. It was enough to keep him together. 
And the times you told him “I love you” made his heart soar, even if he knew it was platonic.
He also had a journal with writing in it, where he would write small notes or lines about his thoughts. Many were about you and how pretty you looked when you came to his room in PJs when you couldn’t sleep, or how happy you were when you down a bowl of ramen, or how-
You get the idea. 
 Though he was content with accepting his crush on you, nothing could have prepared him for how you found out. 
You both had been working together in his room. He was working on some homework while you were studying for your *least* favorite subject, math.
So you ask if you can see his notes to help you understand better.
“Yeah. It’s the first one on my shelf. Its the most recent pages.”
What he forgot was that he had moved it into his backpack and the nondescript notebook that sat first on his shelf was his journal. 
While he kept working, you opened to try and figure out how integrals worked, but instead were met with a cute doodle of your face with a heart next to it.
The line above it said, “On a cold day, y/n’s smile keeps me warm.”
It was oddly poetic, a lil sappy, insanely heart tingling but cOMPLETELY out of left field because- what? This was definitely NOT integrals.
“Tamaki, I don’t think this is the right book…”
He looks up and his face drops in horror as he sees you with his journal, your eyes dazed and unsure.
“O-oh! I’m s-s-so s-sorry I-”
He trips off his bed and runs right up to you, tugging the notebook out of your hand and pulling it to his chest. “This isn’t how I meant for you to f-f-find out I have a c-crush on you-u.” His eyes are glued to the floor. 
“...Tamaki, you have a crush on me?” You ask, in a calm (but very shocked) tone. 
His eyes shot up, wide, and he scrambled through the notebook to see what you read. It was just the doodle and one line, but if you had flipped a page back, you would have seen a long rambling explaining how much he liked you.
But, you didn’t flip a page back, and instead, Tamaki had 100% exposed himself. 
“Y/N I’m s-so so sorry you probably think that I’m a creep now I swear that I really value our friendship and I don’t mean to ruin it so you can just forget about this and-”
He went on for a while, lost in his words and slowly falling apart while you were trying to process what you heard. 
He had a crush on you too? What a relief. You wish you realized sooner! But better late than never right?
Now for how you were gonna calm him down.
On instinct, you wanted to jump on him and kiss him till he couldn’t breathe, but that would probably freak him out more than anything else. 
So you just do what feels right. 
“I really hope you don’t hate me or think I’m weird you just really make me feel complete and peaceful and I never meant to-”
You reach out and gently take hold of one of his hands, pulling it to your face, and softly kiss his knuckles. 
He stops rambling and looks like a deer in headlights as his face ignites into a bright red. 
“WHY DID YOU-” 
“Shhh.. Tamaki… I like you too, okay? I like you a lot. So please calm down.”
What a roller coaster for this poor boy. “Y-you don’t think I’m obsessed with you?”
“I don’t! Well, if you’re obsessed with me, I’m just as obsessed with you, so its okay!” 
You smile at him and he blushes, hiding his face into his shoulder, his hand still sweetly entangled with yours. 
“I, I’m glad,” he manages to get the words out after a few seconds.
For the first time in the history of your relationship, Tamaki was a flustered blushy mess with you. 
“Cmon Tamaki, we have more studying to do!!” You want him to mentally gather himself, so you take him back to his bed, hands still intertwined. 
BONUS: After failing at studying, Tamaki laid down on his bed and stared at the wall, failing to nap, while you were sitting at the foot of the bed.  
His mind was racing. 
“We like each other, but we haven’t talked about it since that moment… What if things are going to be awkward? I don’t want it to be what should I-”
The bed dipped down behind him and an arm snaked up around his torso. His back was pulled against your chest. 
“Is it okay if I take a nap with you, sweetheart?” You ask in a lazy and sleepy voice. 
His heart fluttered at the nickname. “Yeah, of course.”
“I’m glad. I love you, Tamaki.” And with that, you nuzzle into his back and fall asleep. 
And with the feeling of your arms and your stable breathing, he realized you were still his safe space. And with that he was lulled to sleep. 
Toyomitsu Taishiro (x Foodie!Y/N)
You’re assigned to represent your agency for the team-up with Fat Gum’s agency.
When you rolled in, Fat Gum didn’t take much note of you at first. 
But when you intensely fawn over takoyaki during lunch break on the first day, he felt like his eyes were being reopened and he was seeing you for the first time. 
Love at first meal!
Though he initially found you attractive because he shares his love of food with you, he slowly found himself loving everything about you. 
You’re a lighthearted person, with a big heart and an even bigger appetite.
You brought a lot of joy, and that was energy Taishiro could never get enough of.
He knew he was a goner when one day were pranked by one of his Agency members, got caught off guard, and ended up jumping at him. 
He caught you and held you (cuz hero instincts obviously), and in that moment you couldn’t help but hug him out of fear (and because he’s SO CUDDLY REEEEEE).
But that’s enough for him to realize he wants to hold you more. And often. 
Yeah he’s whipped okay.
He definitely tries to keep it professional! And not *overtly* flirt with you.
But he brings you food literally 2 or 3 times a day. 
That may sound like a lot, but given its Fat Gum, it came off pretty innocuous at first.
He’s also really observant, so he picks up on what type of foods you really like. 
So he very often pulls up with your favorites, which always makes your day better. 
He also tries to give you some of his favorite foods, and days you like his favorites were the best. 
He was living his best life watching you be happy, even in a professional setting. 
Fat Gum finally came forward about his feelings for you after a mission went awry. 
It was supposed to be an information retrieval mission- simple get in get out. 
You, Fat, and Sun Eater were going to be working together. 
Fat would guard, Sun Eater would infiltrate and restrain, while you would obtain necessary documents.
That plan is sabotaged the moment you realized the League is also present- when they definitely were not supposed to be. 
Before you can process this shocking information, a knife is being plunged into your stomach. 
Toga smiles down at you- “pretty blood from a pretty person, I’m sorry I can’t help myself.”
She jumps back when Sun Eater sends an octopus arm at her. 
He grabs you in the process and pulls you back, where Fat is now standing by his side, eyes wide in horror. 
He takes you into his arms, and the last thing you feel is being held against his fluffiness before blacking out. 
When you wake up, you’re in a hospital bed, Recovery Girl on one side of you, and Taishiro on the other, in his skinny form. 
Evidently, he had beaten most of the villains to a pulp, but the League had dipped before he could do much more damage. 
But after that, he had carried you to the ambulance and hasn’t left your side since. It’s been half a day. 
“Fat Gum…” 
“Hey do me a favor and call me Taishiro, okay?” He asks you very gently.
“Tai-shiro…” Oof his heart skipped a beat at hearing you say his name. 
“Taishiro, the mission…”
“Shhh it’s okay. There’s an interrogation of the villains that we captured going on right now, and Fourth Kind’s agency is following up on our leads. We did our job for now.”
“Are you okay? Amajiki-kun, is he okay?”
“We’re both fine. Some scratches on him, a lil fat lost for me, but we’re okay.”
“Taishiro...The agency, why are you here? You should be there running the ag-”
“I want to be here with you. That’s why I am here. I trust my assistants to cover for me right now.”
“That’s very nice of you, but I still don’t understand why…”
“Because I like you. I like you lots, Mx. L/N.  I know our relationship has been professional, but seeing you injured was something I didn’t…. I care a lot and I couldn’t find it in myself to leave you here alone. I hope our relationship can stay professional and friendly though, I really enjoy spending time with you.”
Recovery Girl looks back and forth between you two, eyeing your shocked face and his determined, serious one. 
“I’ll be back to check on you in an hour, Y/N. But I’ll leave you two alone for now ~~~” 
You paused, silent. The longer you stayed silent the faster his heart began to race. 
Suddenly, you sit up, placing weight on the heels of your palms. 
“Y/N you’re still injured what are you-”
It's your turn to cut him off, grabbing his jacket and yanking him towards you with your left hand.
Your right hand going to wrap around the back of his neck,
and your body falls back, 
Caught off guard, half standing, and balance lost, Fat’s upper body is now looming above yours, his hands planted on either side of you.
His eyes are wide, and your hands on the back of his neck are warm.
“I’m sorry, Taishiro… but I don’t want this relationship to stay just professional. So can I kiss you?”
His heart flutters, and his classic grin spreads across his face as he closes his eyes and let’s his face close the distance between you two. 
BONUS: You and Fat Gum decided that you didn’t want to tell people that you had started dating- the news would take it and make it a public affair. 
But you decided to leave it up in the air for your agency to figure out. They were your friends after all. 
The first to catch on was Amajiki, but he stayed quiet. 
But the new recruit Kirishima wasn’t as quiet about his suspicions. 
When he walked in to see you hug Fat Gum, he didn’t know how to react. 
You both seemed fine and acted as if hugging was a perfectly normal thing he shouldn’t be surprised by. 
You say goodbye and pat Kiri’s head on the way out. 
The last thing you heard was a loud scream, followed by a “Fat, you and Y/N are dating?” 
Yeah! Cat’s out of the bag.

Ace Attorney Daemons - Detectives (+former detectives)
Animal species and reasoning behind each choice under the cut, as well as links to other groups of characters!
Dick Gumshoe - Akita dog. Gumshoe’s daemon was one of the first ones I figured out. He had to be a dog, because he just exudes that energy, and there’s a nice bonus for this dog in particular since it’s the same breed as Missile. Akitas are stocky, strong dogs, and males can often weigh up to 100 pounds. Gumshoe’s a big guy. They tend to be aggressive towards other dogs and have a strong prey instinct, which isn’t quite as fitting for Gumshoe, but he does have a tendency to get up in peoples’ faces sometimes especially when first meeting them - and in any case, with careful socialization they aren’t as aggressive. Akitas are very loyal and eager to please, bred as guardians and hunters, and they have a strong work ethic. Once Gumshoe is on your side, he’s there for good, and although he isn’t necessarily the cleverest man, if you put him to a task he will work tirelessly at it and has multiple times saved the day with his efforts. There’s a famous myth about an Akita named Hachiko whose owner died; he would wait every day for his master at the train station he usually took home for nine years. This felt very fitting for Gumshoe to me, and really the number one reason I chose this breed was for that reputation of enduring loyalty and love.
Ema Skye - Coconut octopus. My first thought was that Ema needs a daemon that uses tools. Her passion for forensic investigation, and using scientific tools in particular, demanded it. Coconut octopodes are famous for picking up coconut shells and carrying them around as mobile homes, or wearing them as ‘hats’ to provide protection from predators. In order to move about effectively in this manner, they also walk on only two legs, which is an unusual and notable behavior. They’re a relatively small species, but still have the usual octopode abilities to change color and release ink. The ink especially made me think of Ema’s luminol, so I loved that. But octopodes in general are very intelligent and in captivity are known to escape their tanks and play pranks, or throw things out of their tanks when annoyed, which is great for Ema. This species spends a lot of its time hidden and darting out to get food; when it does hunt it tends to ‘forage’, wandering about and catching whatever is handy, rather than stalking prey. Ema works with a lot of different people and is in general very adaptable, but as an adult she’s generally a bit more withdrawn/not interested in socializing with everyone all the time. She also snacks all the time so I liked the ‘foraging’ for that.
Jake Marshall - Mule. My initial thought for Jake was actually a coyote, and I’m still a little torn on this one. I knew whatever he ended up with had to be something to fit his whole Wild West theme, which both do. Still, while I think a coyote would be fitting too, in the end I leaned more towards mule for a couple of reasons. First, Jake’s cowboy act is mostly that - he’s actually from LA and there’s no indication he’s ever been to Texas, let alone grew up on a ranch or anything. The stereotypical image of a cowboy is of course riding a horse - so this would be another example of him not quite matching his whole attitude. (Because yes, he would saddle up his daemon and ride her around town.) However, many people actually prefer mules over horses. They’re very intelligent and sure-footed, have excellent endurance and resilience, are relatively calm, and in general are known as an example of 'hybrid vigor’, often gaining the best of both their parents’ traits. When treated well, they are actually quite trainable and willing to work. However, they tend to have a stronger sense of self-preservation than horses and can balk when asked to do something dangerous. Also, if given a negative environment or one without enough mental stimulation, they can develop bad behaviors and be hard to manage. I think all of this fits pretty well for Jake - as far as we know, he was a willing and eager detective, and did his job well at the time. However, since getting demoted he lost all motivation for his work, and developed a lot of bad habits. He also is surprisingly astute and confrontational - if it weren’t for the handprint locks, his break-in would have worked completely, and he realized that there was shady stuff going on and confronted Lana about it.
Angel Starr - White Bengal tiger. Angel may act sweet, but only ever for so long. She’s a hunter at heart. She has a lot of boyfriends, all of whom are useful strategically; Bengal tigers are a polygynous species, with one male mating several females. Though she certainly seems like she can work well with others when needed, Angel strikes me as more of private person. She will spend time with people but not necessarily open up deeply to them, and tigers for the most part lead solitary lives. They are also stealthy predators, often waiting till dusk and camouflaging themselves. They also tend to quietly approach their prey from the side or the back - all of this ‘ambush and stealth’ style seems a fitting match to the way Angel plays sweet and then abruptly lashes out with such ferocity. Originally, I just gave her a regular tiger, but then I thought about it a little more and I actually like the white morph for her. It matches her color scheme and fur jacket, which is a nice detail, and white Bengal tigers are very rare in nature and considered very beautiful. Angel uses her beauty to disarm people, so it just seemed fitting.
Shi-Long Lang - Northwestern wolf. Lang Zi says, “Obviously he’s a wolf! There was never any doubt!” I mean, the amount of wolf references is off the charts with this guy. Wolves, of course, are pack animals, which fits his huge team of subordinates that he clearly knows well. Northwestern wolves are the largest wolves in the world, which is another great reference to that. They’re a bit stockier than some other wolves, adapted to high altitudes, and packs often hunt large prey like elk. Lang goes after some pretty major targets, so that’s a nice nod too. Wolves are intelligent and playful, with complex social dynamics and distinctive howls. They are excellent hunters and can travel for long distances after their prey, as well as just roaming large territories. I mean, I could go on, but of course he’s a wolf so it’d all just be reiterating what we already know.

1) I admire a lot the hard work you put into your timeline, please don't take it the wrong way, but how do you make sense of taekook happily dating but not seeing eo during their long break in 2019 ? Ppl keep saying it's not healthy for couples to be always together and it's normal to take alone time since they're workmates but it's not like they can actually "be" a couple during work

Kayla: Sara and I have a goal to go back through 2019 and firm it up even more, but we will have to agree to disagree, and that’s ok! ☺️We both don’t see any breakup in 2019. Tae commented 2019 was an okay year, which I doubt he’d say if they had broken up. Not only that, but through 2019, into 2020, both Tae and Jk were loud in their own ways to one another, which I just don’t see happening if there is a breakup.

But will expand further as we can.
Keep in mind, they’re closeted so they can’t be fully forthright. Perhaps they did see each other during the break, but they omitted sharing that which is their right to do. Being closeted, not out, it wouldn’t surprise me if Jk decided to not mention this when he spoke about who he saw. And maybe he did only see Hobi and Jimin. I’m going to Japan for 3 weeks without my partner this year (if the pandemic lets up). It doesn’t mean we have issues. I am a person outside my relationship and I like to go do things separate from that. Maybe it’s as simple as that. But I’m not a fan of how people (I’m not saying you necessarily, just Tkers in general) seem to actively look for negativity when I find this quite straight forward - a closeted couple who can’t be fully open, not disclosing all of what they did on their break (which is their right), and people analyzing it so deeply. We only see a fraction of their lives. They aren’t obligated to share, and also keep in mind, as upsetting as people weirdly get hearing this, BTS do lie and avoid being fully forthright and that’s fine. They don’t owe us a thing. So the way I see it, maybe Jk omitted he spent time with Tae, or maybe they did take time to see other people, since they are busy 10-18 hours a day with BTS. There is such a thing as FaceTime when you’re seperate from your person. And I just am a firm believer being closeted means we’re not privy to everything. I wouldn’t necessarily take that comment at face value when factoring in other variables.
Going with the point we only see a fraction - remember how out of pure luck we caught Tae leaving the boathouse Jk slept in during IST? We would’ve never known Tae had even been in there before the sunrise if we didn’t see that one specific frame. They didn’t mention it. They gave no indication of it. What about the drama with hot 100 and the contradictions in stories that got everyone confused? Those examples show they omit. We only see so much. They only share so much.
Leading up to that break Jk gestured very obviously to Tae that he is his life partner. They were spotted going to the movies together. Only Jk knew Tae got nail care one day in a run episode filmed that summer. Jk sat on Tae’s lap. Jk is at Tae’s army zip photo shoot. They’re filmed listening to “winter bear” and are rumored to have shared a 1 bedroom space separate from the members during summer package. Jk gives Tae the “way beyond my imagination” award. In BV4.. which needs to be addressed since people find drama here too for some reason I can’t understand ... he buys Tae a coat, happily announces (mistakingly) he is Tae’s roommate, helps him with Uno, they take photos together and Jk recognizes his playlist in the RV .. plus he protectively offered to cut the thorns when Tae comments on them. Fast forward after the break and Tae holds Jk’s hand, the first public appearance after the tattoo girl scandal. To me that’s a statement on its own. And then from there you have “the closer you are the shorter the letter”, among many other cute moments in winter package, Jk flirtingly asking Tae to car share, and you jump into 2020 with GDA, back hugging in black swan, being loud in general in America (dancing together, being affectionate), Tae being loud about Jk or 🐯🐰on Weverse .. I mean.. I just don’t see how that all happens if there’s an issue. All before the month break, and after the month break, they don’t show any tension or issue. So because a closeted, private couple doesn’t give a full break down of what they did every single day of their vacation, which were not entitled to know, we just ignore all the positive actions and words they made about or towards each other before and after break, or the fact Tae said 2019 wasn’t a bad year overall? I don’t get that.
I mean .. if someone sees an issue so be it but my mind is really firm there was no issue in 2019.
And as far as the living situation goes, we all know Tae has his own space but I actually don’t have any insight into the living situation further. It’s too complex. But I highly doubt Taekook are not seeing each other outside of work commitments. No matter what the living situation is, I’m sure they’re spending time together, or else the relationship would collapse. We get comments, pictures and videos from people seeing them out and about (movies, shopping, food, Namsan, etc..) so that’s pretty obvious they spend time together outside of work.
And as far as Jk’s birthday goes, I’ve heard rumors but I’m not going to share because I’m not comfortable and it’ll just start arguing. Plus I have an opinion on some of the drama of that but again I’m not going there because I just know where that will go. So all I’m going to say is again, we are only privy to so much going on in their lives. But as far as I’m concerned, Tk were fine before, during and after BV4, tattoo girl and jk’s birthday.
Again, totally cool we disagree but this is my stance. Thank you for the well wishes. That’s very sweet 💜

i don't know who to talk to about this but i respect you a lot so i hope you don't mind my rambling. i'm a 17 year old girl in the united states and the more i think about our government the more frustrated i get. it's not even a matter of "x needs to happen to make it better," i think the government is inherently corrupt and broken and i have no faith in democracy as an institution. i feel like we need to get rid of everything entirely but i don't know what to do with these feelings. idk
17 yr old girl still: for clarification, i've felt this way for a while but i'm only acknowledging it now because i've been reading about like garrisonian abolitionism and how they believed the constitution is inherently flawed and the government is run by immoral people and so all government participation is corrupt and supporting a corrupt system... and it's how i feel to a t. fixing the government is a waste of time because america is inherently immoral... idk if i am just crazy or what to do
this is totally not crazy and completely 100% understandable. i think we all struggle to come to grips, especially these days, with the fact that the government we grew up trusting and believing in is not actually what it seems to be. i apologize for the personal political tangent i’m about to go on here, but for me this break came as i was continuously frustrated with the cruelty and suffering that could either by stopped by or was even fostered by the state. to me it made no sense that democrats, the seemingly liberal and rational compassionate party, sat around posturing while people died from lack of healthcare. stories about people being evicted because of medical bills or rationing insulin seemed completely ridiculous in a “”first world”” country that was wealthy enough to be spending billions of dollars on defense and weapons for “protection” but didn’t care about its own citizens wellbeing. as i got older, i started looking into works critical of capitalism and realized that at the heart of it all, the system wasn’t broken but working exactly how it had to in order to benefit the wealthy and powerful in this country. there’s a reason we can afford enormous “defense” spending but we “can’t afford” stimulus checks. we don’t get jeff bezos and other billionaires without stolen labor and resources. for example, amazon not paying taxes while elsewhere schools are closing and governments claim to have no money to reverse the seemingly permanent austerity we live in these days. the stock market hits records constantly but when was the last time the economy was good for everyone? why do so many top democrats have wall street and huge corporations as enormous donors with a ton of leeway? it all seemed very corrupt and rotten.
this is when i started reading about communism/socialism/anarchism. i had to unlearn a lot about what i was taught about all of this, as we are taught negative things for a reason. it really seems to some people that the choice is what we have now, or an authoritarian state complete with bread lines and factory work for the one party. which of course is not what communism is and many argue that communism the way karl marx intended does not look like anything we have seen yet because we need the capitalist powers that be to no longer exist to meddle and to suck up the world’s resources. ANYWAY reading more about anarchism and socialism made me realize that a better world is possible. i honestly do not trust the state and i think things get corrupted easily. i hope i am wrong and i hope without capitalism involved, a state could be more compassionate. however, i really loved the idea of small democratically led communities that existed without a centralized state. i think this pulls us away from corruption, isolation, overcommodification, and many things that make us sick and feel like our needs are not being met. but realizing a better world is possible in theory made the idea of scrapping it all not feel like such a hopeless failure.
however, the socialist revolution or the erasure of our current status quo will not happen overnight and isn’t happening anytime soon. really makes you feel frustrated and powerless right? my advice to you would be to take a break from theorizing about fixing absolutely everything before our system collapses in on itself. instead, i honestly find that the best thing for that frustration and powerlessness of living under this crumbling empire is to realize that on a small scale, people are doing so much good. i would get involved and look into mutual aid groups (not charities necessarily, but  community centered mutual aid groups like food not bombs run by locals for locals in a very compassionate way)  and see how they are changing their communities independent of the local or federal government. even picking a candidate that you think can give you any glimmer of hope (like me and bernie who i canvassed for in february when things seemed so much brighter lol) and do some grassroots work there. organizing on a local level for leftist groups even independent of politics and just for making people’s lives better can also really make you feel like good is still possible. even changing the life of one or two people who have been crushed by the callousness and unkindness of our system can really restore your faith that something can improve, even if its not our federal government. hope you don’t mind MY rant and hope this offers some insight into how i deal with the exact same feelings you have.

What fandom(s) do you write for?
 I write for NCT, but I have written for Harry Potter in the past
When did you post your first piece?
Around the empathy era I’m pretty sure, 2018? I used to do moodboards only but I was inspired by other writers to give it a go
Do you write fluff/angst/crack/general/smut, combo, etc? Why?
I find that I stick to the fluff/angst tropes because they’re easier to formulate because I can relate myself to the scenario more. I also find that its also more interesting to write angst because there's complications to a story that take longer to form and you have to really think about the different emotions the characters are feeling.
Do you write OCs, X Readers, Ships...etc?
I write x reader mostly, but at some point in the future I’m thinking of writing an OC purely because the concept I want to focus on has a particular emphasis on name and I don’t think it would work with y/n
Why did you start writing on Tumblr?
I used to use Wattpad but it was very difficult to promote myself and I struggled to meet anyone through it. On tumblr it was much easier to orientate and the community was so much nicer. 
What inspires you to write?
My mutuals! And other writers on tumblr, everyone is so supportive and kind it’s amazing. Also the feedback I sometimes get from readers, it makes me really happy whenever I get a comment or someone interacts with a piece I enjoyed writing, or alternatively when someone supports a fic I wasn’t confident in as it really boosts my confidence :)
What genres/AUs do you enjoy writing the most?
School/ College aus because they’re very familiar and I am confident in getting the tropes and ideas right. But I also like works inspired by movies or songs because there’s so much to work from and it’s nice to see where you can take the plot and lyrics in your own story.
What do you hope your readers take away from your work?
That writing is for everyone, honestly at the end of the day I’m just a kid in my room writing stories about artists I’m a really big fan of. If you want to write you can, and you don’t have to necessarily be a “big” blog or writer to do it. 
What do you do when you hit a rough spot creatively?
Take a break, that’s my first port of call - usually in the method of food or I look at the inspiration material again, I listen to the song, read the lyrics, consult my friends and mutuals for help. It’s always good to be able to put something down to start again later when you’re struck with inspiration
What is your favorite work and why? Your most successful?
My favourite personally at the moment (since one I really like is currently, as of answering this question, unpublished) is ‘Remember Me’ purely because it was the work I was the most passionate about writing and it really let me explore a new field of writing, since a lot of my stuff had been fluff before. My most successful in terms of notes is my Mark one shot ‘Sugar and Spice’ and I’m very proud of it.
Who is your favorite person to write about?
Park Jisung, my ult bias, I have to convince myself to write for other members sometimes as I often resist the urge to be a Jisung blog. However I have been enjoying writing for Mark and Hendery recently, as my other NCT biases
Do you think there’s a difference between writing fanfiction vs. completely original prose?
To a certain extent yes, it really depends on the writer. For many fanfiction stories, including ones we may label “cliche” the only difference is who it’s about, there are countless amazing fics I’ve read which I would assume could be made into a novel, the only thing making it fanfiction being the characters themselves.
What do you think makes a good story?
Feeling! There’s nothing that really constitutes a “good story” as it’s all subjective, but if you can read a story and feel what the characters feel, or even just see the emotions the writer is trying to portray then it’s definitely a good story. I’ve cried while reading most of, if not all my favourite stories.
What is your writing process like?
I plan first in a little notebook so I don’t forget any of my ideas or plans and then I try to churn it out whenever I have access to my computer, my speaker and a comfortable blanket. I like to “get in the zone” and then write as much as I possibly can. I usually think of ideas as I write so the notebook helps me put them in order and make sure I don’t get too ahead of myself.
Would you ever repurpose a fic into a completely original story?
I have thought about it and honestly, I’m not sure. My fics are not series’ and they’re all very short - most of them under 4k so I’d have to turn the idea into a full length thing you know? But I have thought about doing the opposite with a very old original story of mine I’ve otherwise given up on but still holds a special place in my heart.
What tropes do you love, and what tropes can’t you stand?
I am a sucker for the enemies to lovers trope mainly because the character development in these stories can be so much more interesting and complex. On the other hand I’m not fond of “yandere” type fics, however I have read several well written ones which I cannot speak against because they were actually really good.
How much would you say audience feedback/engagement means to you?
I’d say a lot, in terms of how much I write feedback means a lot to me - it’s also nice to hear what people think of things you’ve written because it’s a different view from your own and sometimes can boost confidence. I am also open to constructive criticism if any writers have any tips or suggestions for future works I’m always open to listen. 
What has been one of the biggest factors of your success (of any size)?
When I see anyone interacting with my work it’s really rewarding and I love when people reblog with custom tags because it lets me know that people actually like what I do and to me, that’s a success.

My mind goes to two extremes, I think either ancient Greece because why not and the 1950’s purely for fashion and music.
If you could restart your life, knowing what you do now, would you?
No, but I think if I could restart specific moments I would. There are so many good moments but some things you don’t want to relive even if you can change the outcome.
Would you rather fight 100 chicken-sized horses or one horse-sized chicken?
100 chicken sized horses, I’d be terrified of a horse sized chicken it would probably be able to eat me and I’m not about that life, tiny horses I can deal with. Kill them with Kindness or whatever haha.
If you were a trope in a teen high school movie, what would you have been?
A mix of quiet teachers pet and loud side character friend. The duality kills me, I can be shouting with my friends one minute but whispering the minute the teacher asks me a question.
Do you believe in aliens/supernatural creatures?
I’d like to, I think some are really cool and it would be amazing to live among them, but also some are dangerous, but I would love to see or meet some creatures. Imagine living with dragons man that would be epic.
What are some of your favorite hobbies and how did you get into them?
I really like reading, courtesy of Harry Potter, but I also enjoy singing and playing the piano which I started doing more often in secondary school when my piano teacher suggested I started to sing as well :)
Fun fact about yourself that not everyone would know?
I did Karate for about 10/11 years, and I’m a black belt *insert awkward smile here*
Do you think fanfic writers get unfairly judged?
A lot of the time yes, there is a stigma around fanfiction and often paints us in a negative light but we just happen to be a community of creative fans who want to share and support the people we write about. But I can see where the stigma comes from, sometimes it can be taken a bit far and I am aware that some things make the artists themselves uncomfortable. I think if people who judge fanfiction are referring to it as a single idea it becomes unfair because it is all different, but I also think that writers of fanfiction themselves have to make sure they don’t cross any boundaries when writing that could make readers or the artist (if they ever happened to stumble across your work) uncomfortable.
Do you think art can be a medium for change?
Yes in some ways of course. Art is not only a way to express what the creator themselves is feeling but it is also a way to teach others about issues, prejudices and ideals. For literature specifically it allows you into the shoes of another person you may not have understood before, in art pieces there’s a clear message and encourages people to educate themselves on certain issues which in turn makes room for change.
Do you ever feel there are times when you’re writing for others, rather than yourself?
Sometimes if i’ve been suggested or requested to write something because it isn’t an idea that comes for me but mainly if I am aware that someone is waiting for a fic or someone has said they’re anticipating it I feel like I’m writing for others, but I don’t particularly mind it because it almost encourages me to write to a better standard.
Do you ever feel like people have misunderstood you or your writing at times?
Not particularly, I'm often as clear as I can be when portraying meaning, or I will straight up say it in a different thread or to different people because I can’t keep secrets and I’m a sucker for a spoiler. Although I am constantly worried about the way I come off in messages and things like that - I am a terrible overthinker.
Do your offline friends/loved ones know you write for Tumblr?
A few of my closest friends and other kpop stans I am friends with irl are aware of my blog and support me as much as they can with what little information I give them. I think only one of my irls has my url because she reads and I send her my binge reviews when I do them.
What is one thing you wish you could tell your followers?
Thank you so much, honestly it’s cheesy but without them I don’t know where my blog would be. The amount of them surprises me everyday and I don’t think I believe it half the time. Also if anyone ever needs help or support or just wants a chat I’m open, its 100% likely that if you interact with me or my posts on the regular then I will recognise you when you come say hi, I’m not that scary I promise.
Do you have any advice for aspiring writers who might be too scared to put themselves out there?
Just do it! It’s better to get your stuff out there and circulating to get a better idea of what people like and where your strong suit is, the more you put out the more you grow. But if you’re scared, talk to other creators, we’re always open to help and we can let you know what to do, it was something that helped me out :)
Are there any times when you regret joining Tumblr?
When I first started there was a lot of struggle with me trying to figure out my style and what I wanted to do, and it was a learning curve of what can I do, what should I avoid and who am I doing this for. Sometimes when I’m really down I will question why I do it, but I never regret it because it has allowed me to make some wonderful friends and be exposed to some amazing creations and get more into something I’ve always liked doing, writing.
Do you have any mutuals who have been particularly formative/supportive in your Tumblr journey?
I don’t want this to be too long, but I feel like it could be. I’ve met so many wonderful people and I love all of them so much, but in terms of being formative and supportive these are some of the people I talk to the most. @renjunwrites - I am a huge fan of Denise and to even be able to be in conversation with her about the stuff she writes is mindblowing to me, @nanasarea - nana was one of the first people I spoke to (before I joined discord) and was really accepting of my antics from day one. @glossyjaems - me and Louna have become very close recently and I can’t wait for our project to launch, keep an eye out for that. @mjlkau Anie is really one of the biggest supporters I have, always willing to read what I send her and give me support and love. There’s so many more people I’d love to mention but this would go on forever, to anyone ever involved in my writing process I’m thinking of you as I write this and I love you all (I feel really bad not talking about every single one omg).

Hello! I hope 'Ask Wendi' day is still on, because I have a question about battling depression and an ED. I've been struggling with both of these things since I was 20 (I'm now 25) I've been to therapy, but my financial situation has not allowed me to continue. Do you have any tips on how to get out of the negative mental loop? Thank you so much for your time ♥
Hey sweetheart. “Ask Wendi” is all day, everyday; I’m always here! This one is a little long so I’m gonna put it under a “Keep Reading” link so it’s not taking up everyone’s dashboard.
So. I never battled an eating disorder per se, at least, not like anorexia or bulimia. I stress eat and so I tend to over eat instead of under eat. I think the biggest advice I can give there is to force yourself to at least drink water, but you need to know that the food you eat or lack of food is going to affect your mental health, so the depression will be harder to manage if you’re not getting the right nutrition. The mind-body connection is a powerful thing.
Now on to the depression. This I can speak to, having battled it for at least fifteen years that I can solidly remember; most likely it’s been longer. Depression is not easy to manage, and it looks different for everyone. What works for someone will not necessarily work for others, so you might have to tweak any advice I share. I’ll tell you what I do for my depression.
I suffer from situational depression, which can trigger episodes of chronic depression, and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) in the winter. For those that don’t know those terms, I’ll explain it simply: situational depression is exactly what it sounds like; a situation arises that triggers feelings of depression. This can last any length of time from thirty minutes to weeks/months. Chronic depression is defined as having symptoms of depression for two years or longer (there are many different ways that depression manifests itself, so if you think you might be suffering from depression please, call your doctor). 
What I do to help when I start to feel it happening is to simply let it. I allow myself to wallow in it, I don’t try to fight it. My husband is aware of this, and our code phrase is “I’m having a bummer day”. If the bummer day turns into a bummer week, then I usually try to pick myself up. I think the biggest thing you have to do is accept that this is how your brain works, and to let it work itself through it. 
There are practical things you can do to help with this; I like to get outside for fifteen minutes and get some sun exposure. It’s not much, but you’ll absorb a little Vitamin D from the sun’s rays, and a short walk can increase your serotonin and endorphin levels as well. If you don’t think you can manage a walk around the block, try just going to get the mail. It’s not easy pushing yourself to get up and get out, but creating small goals for yourself can really help kick those depressive feelings.
Another thing I’ll do if I’m feeling low is pick a way to pamper myself, like a shower, do my makeup, do my hair, give myself a pedicure, put on a nice outfit, etc. Just a small amount of self care goes a long way when it comes to depression, and it’s a great mood booster. 
The last big thing that I do is I practice mindfulness. Now this tends to help more when anxiety rears its ugly head, but it can apply for depression too. One of the easiest ways to practice mindfulness is to count to 100, and picture each number vividly in your head. You can picture them however you want; I often picture them as one of those old flip clocks. By focusing on one thing, the rest of your brain is forced to relax, and I often mind myself in a calmer and clearer state of mind afterward. 
Regardless of what you try, just know that depression is not an easy thing to live with, and a lot of people may not understand it, simply because they can’t see it or feel it. A lot of people think that it’s something you can just “power through” or “just stop thinking about it”, but that’s not the case. Love yourself, love the way your brain works, and accept that sometimes it’s going to feel this way. 
I don’t know where you live, but here in the states (especially at seminary colleges) you can get free therapy sessions from students working on hours for their degree. It’s not quite the same as seeing a licensed therapist, but it’s still an opportunity to get the chance to talk to an unbiased outsider about what you’re dealing with, someone who has access to resources that you may not.

In the spring of 2013, a deadly coronavirus began to spread across the United States. Within a year it had reached 32 states, sweeping through dense populations that lacked immunity to the new pathogen. Though researchers scrambled to curb the disease, by the following spring, the epidemic claimed some 8 million lives—all of them pigs.
The pathogen responsible, Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDv), poses no danger to humans. But among its hosts, pigs, the virus ravages their bodies with severe gastrointestinal disease. The 2013 outbreak killed an estimated 10 percent of the nation’s pigs in a matter of months. Struggling to make ends meet with limited supplies, pork producers pushed their prices to record highs as farmers nursed the dying and sick—most of which were newborn piglets—by the thousands.
“It was extremely devastating,” says Don Davidson, a veterinarian with the Ohio-based food company Cooper Farms. “The losses were huge. Months later … you could just see there weren’t as many pigs in market.”
By summer of 2014, the diarrheal disease had mostly petered out, partly because of a combination of increased diagnostic efforts and the growing immunity of the nation’s pig population. But perhaps the biggest factor in ending the epidemic was behavioral: a near-universal ramp-up in farms’ attention to cleaning, disinfection and isolation, says Michaela Trudeau, an animal coronavirus researcher at the University of Minnesota. These enhanced biosecurity measures “are one set of things we turn to over and over again to keep our pigs safe,” she says.
As the world battles another dangerous coronavirus, the human pathogen SARS-CoV-2, similar lessons could prove valuable once again. People aren’t pigs, and SARS-CoV-2—a respiratory virus—does not cause the same illness as PEDv. But this new coronavirus is vulnerable to many of the tactics that brought its predecessors to heel. In both cases, “it comes down to cooperation,” Trudeau says. “The more people [working to] contain it, the better off we’ll be.”
A cosmopolitan disease
The human population first discovered PEDv in the early 1970s, when veterinarians in Britain noticed pigs falling ill with bouts of watery diarrhea that couldn’t be traced back to any known pathogens. Because many cases were mild and the disease mostly spared piglets, farmers largely shrugged off the outbreaks.
Then, as the decades passed, the virus snuck across international borders and mutated. By 2010, strains emerging in China were sparking massive outbreaks that felled newborn pigs in droves.
In April of 2013, PEDv made landfall in the United States, flaring up first in Ohio and then Indiana and Iowa. Alarmed farmers and researchers ran tests for the typical spate of diarrheal microbes, yielding negative after negative. By the time PEDv was identified as the likely culprit, the pathogen had started to spread east and west. Although American veterinarians knew of the virus’ existence abroad, few had given serious thought to a PEDv cross-continental jump. American pigs had no immunity to fight off the new pathogen, and no vaccines or treatments were available.
The virus “had never made it to the U.S., and we thought it would stay that way,” says Montserrat Torremorell, an animal health expert at the University of Minnesota. “We weren’t ready.”

Likely stemming from the same ancestor that had yielded China’s deadly strains, the American variant of the virus proved a formidable foe. “It’s extremely infectious” in low doses, says Davidson, who explains he once heard that “the eraser on top of a No. 2 pencil could hold enough PED virus to infect every pig in the United States.”
Once swallowed by an unsuspecting piglet, the pathogen would travel to the gut and infect and destroy the finger-like nutrient-absorbing projections called villi on the walls of the small intestine. Newborn piglets were plagued with intense bouts of diarrhea, driving extreme dehydration that proved lethal within a few days of infection: On many farms, the death rates in the youngest swine “were just about 100 percent,” Davidson says.
Though older pigs remained mostly resilient to the disease’s most severe effects, they weren’t immune to infection. Even in the absence of symptoms, they shed and spread the virus through their feces, seeding new outbreaks as unsuspecting farmers shipped their swine stocks nationwide.
“This industry is structured in such a way that pigs move, and not just by a few miles,” Torremorell says. Domesticated pigs are, not unlike humans, a fairly cosmopolitan group. In a single lifetime, a pig may make several trips of a thousand miles or more, such as when it’s ready for sale or slaughter.
Humans, too, played a major role in transmission. While PEDv can’t infect people, the pathogen used them as its oblivious chauffeurs, hitching rides to new swine hosts as farmers, feed suppliers and veterinarians traveled from place to place. Hardy enough to persist for several days outside the pig body, the virus clung to clothes and glommed onto the soles of shoes. It planted itself onto equipment and coated the insides of trailers and trucks.
Worst of all may have been the virus’ ability to fester for weeks in feed, giving the pathogen a straight shot into the guts of its hosts. “Feed ingredients have unique access to our pigs,” says Megan Niederwerder, a veterinary virologist at Kansas State University. “That definitely was not at the forefront of our minds.”
A wake-up call
The outbreak moved at “eye opening” speed, Davidson says. “Just about everybody got it. I don’t know any large farm systems that didn’t.”
In the absence of reliable, widely available medical interventions, farmers and veterinarians turned most of their focus to diagnosis and containment. “We already had pretty solid biosecurity protocols on farms,” Trudeau says. “But this really made us take a step back and think, because it was traveling so easily which we hadn’t necessarily seen with other viruses before.”
Suddenly, Trudeau says, everything moving to and from a farm was subject to intense scrutiny. No surface was too small or too hidden to escape the reach of a microscopic virus. All pigs and people had to be treated as potential vectors for disease.
“Farmers effectively shut down their farms,” says Scott Kenney, an animal coronavirus researcher at Ohio State University. “Friends from other farms weren’t able to come in, sales reps weren’t allowed to come in. And the people who did had to change their clothes before going into farms.”
Trudeau says that most places that dealt with pigs already had a “shower in, shower out” policy in place that required visitors to remove their clothing, wash off with soap and water, and don a clean outfit before making any contact with animals. Exiting the building then required the same procedure in reverse. “It’s very extensive,” she says. “Nothing is coming onto the farm that hasn’t been washed.”
In the pre-PEDv era, not everyone was vigilant about following showering guidelines, Trudeau says. By necessity, the outbreak changed that, says Marie Culhane, a veterinarian at the University of Minnesota. “It’s not business as usual during an outbreak.”
Farmers, feed distributors and transport personnel became ardent disinfectors, regularly sterilizing frequently contacted surfaces, including equipment. Because the insides of trucks were especially difficult to clean, drivers ferrying supplies no longer left their vehicles, asking farm personnel to do the unloading themselves. And any individuals who had recently spent time in a heavily pig-populated place, like a county fair, would wait at least 72 hours before stepping onto a swine establishment—a form of self-isolation.
Importantly, farmers put these measures in place without waiting for their pigs to show symptoms, Torremorell says. “When that virus infects older animals, they can be shedding continuously and have no clinical signs. You just don’t know.”
The payoff wasn’t instantaneous. But slowly the epidemic began to wane, and by the fall of 2014, PEDv had finally loosened its grip. The virus has reappeared in the years since, flickering briefly in pig populations before being stamped out. Many of the pigs that survived the first epidemic became immune to further infection. But farmers are also much more savvy nowadays. Whenever the pathogen appears, “they basically shut down things right away, like going into lockdown,” Torremorell says. “When that happens, there’s not as much spread.”
The other coronavirus
In the absence of an effective, long-lasting PEDv vaccine—something that still eludes veterinarians—control of epidemics “depends critically on high biosecurity,” says Qiuhong Wang, an animal coronavirus expert at Ohio State University.
While SARS-CoV-2 and PEDv belong to the same family, the two viruses target different hosts and different parts of the body, and shouldn’t be considered interchangeable in any respects. But in broad strokes, containing an infectious disease hinges on a common set of principles that promotes awareness about transmission, minimizes contamination of surfaces and materials, and champions the effectiveness of practicing good hygiene, Torremorell says.
For humans, following that strategy includes adhering to physical distancing measures, frequent cleaning and disinfecting and taking precautions in the absence of symptoms, Trudeau says. What’s more, adopting these tactics now could help prepare the population for its next outbreak.
“We learned lots on the pig side about being better prepared,” Davidson says. “Behavioral change is hard. But it works.”

More Intense Protection
These are ideas for when what you’re facing is a little stronger than the average charm or crystal can stand up to. I’ve been dealing with a lot of really nasty things recently that normal measures didn’t work for, so it’s time to kick it up a notch.
The biggest thing to do is follow the Canada rules, which is to say layer up and don’t rely on a single thick layer to do the job. Any one of these on its own won’t be as effective as an approach from multiple angles. 
-Black Tourmaline is intensely protective, but it’s own energy isn’t always enough. To help tourmaline do it’s job most effectively, meditate with it and learn it’s unique nuances and personality. Introduce yourself. Mesh its energy with your own, and ask it POLITELY to stand as your personal protector. I would recommend doing this with a piece of jewelry that you can wear the majority of the time. Do this with any protective jewelry to fill in holes in its shield. 
-Protective tattoos are quite effective. Using one that another has designed is fine, though customizing always adds a layer of personal power. Place the tattoo on one of the more vulnerable points on the human body. The most significant spiritual gateway on your body is the back of your neck, and EVERYTHING both negative and positive enters through it, so be careful about what protections you place there. Permanent tattoos remove most of the day-to-day maintenance, except for touch ups and sunscreen, but if tattoos aren’t an option for you, you can use henna or sharpies or even commission custom temporary tats. You can also use sacred waters and oils to draw the design in place for invisible protection.
-Doors are vulnerable places, so layer the SHIT out of the wards on those. Make an X with smoke, use rue water to draw a protective sigil on BOTH sides, bless the frame and anoint it, sprinkle black salt across the threshold, hang herbs and/or crystals from it, and hang bells from the doorknob. Modify as needed for windows. 
-Protective symbols can be drawn into shoes, embroidered into clothing, woven into bracelets, painted onto your nails. Use em.
-Don’t underestimate the value of daily protective rituals. It’s a good idea to start each day by meditating, grounding, warding, and elevating your energy. If you work with any deities, pray to them at this time. This will uplift your mood and protect you. Think of it as seasoning, the more you do it the better the shine. Similarly, protective magic can be woven into almost everything we do daily, from applying makeup to making coffee to getting ready to drive to work. Sunscreen is the easiest, since you should be wearing sunscreen daily anyway. Enchant the whole container, and apply it in the form of a sigil or rune or other symbol before blending. If you drive to work, charge your keys with intent before starting the car (I like to toss mine into the air a couple times). 
-Your head is the seat of your mind and where your crown chakra is located. Wearing hats, headbands, hair ornaments, and scarves are effective methods of guarding this space. Plaiting and braiding your hair is also effective, as is enchanting any product you put in it. 
-Work from the inside out. You are what you eat, so consume foods with fortifying properties and drink loads of water to keep up the energy needed to keep your wards and charms charged. Blueberries are shockingly protective, apples have tons of spiritual energy, black tea is strengthening.
-In that same vein, taking care of your physical form guards your spiritual bodies. Keep up with your hygiene, exercise as is healthy for YOU, and get ample sleep. Stress wreaks havoc on the body and mind, you must find ways to relieve it. Even things as inconsequential as your hair and nails can have a detrimental effect on your well being if neglected.
-Be mindful about the colours you wear when in a period of extended attack. Black and red are less visible to belligerent entities and energies and so will help hide you, for example. White and yellow project a ward of light. Brown is a very human colour and can help mask your magic from things that seek out magical practitioners.
-Silence is an effective method of protecting yourself, if a little outdated. In this day and age, being open and honest will change the world faster and more effectively than the silence and secrecy of old. However, there is still a place for the shroud of Hecate. Be selective about who knows about your magic, and use good judgement. If it’s safer that nobody knows, there is no shame in retreating to the broom closet as it were. This is war. 
-There is strength in numbers, surround yourself with people who care about you and want to see you safe and happy. Reach out to them when you need, and be ready to help when they reach out to you. You don’t necessarily have to join a coven, but if you have friends in the magic and metaphysical community, hold them close. 
-Small gestures can be protective. Crossing your arms or legs or fingers, right over left, is a quick and discreet block. Putting a finger in front of your mouth in a “shush” gesture is another. Making a claw with your hand and thrusting outward from your chest is a more aggressive block, as is baring your teeth. 
NEVER assume that your wards and protections will work 100% of the time. Remain aware of your surroundings, sensitize yourself to changes in the environment, and always be ready to take action if need be.

-Random and sudden aches and pains

-The feeling of something hanging over your head
-The feeling of someone watching you
-Cravings for fortifying foods
-A random bad taste in your mouth
-Physical discomfort that you can’t place or find a reason for (IE, if you went to the gym yesterday and now you’re sore, that’s probably not an attack, you’re just sore)
-Repeated symbols in bad dreams
Witchcraft is a war, folks, and in a war you’ve gotta fight smart.

[INTERVIEW] WISH’s Vivienne talks second solo album To You
Despite her young age, Vivienne has already made a name for herself as the youngest member of the popular girl group WISH and has a blossoming career as a solo artist following the release of her first solo album, Across The Universe, back in 2017. A year and a half has come and gone, and the young idol has now released her second solo album, titled To You. Exclusive got to have the first interview with Vivienne about the release of her second solo album. Read what she had to say below!
How would you compare To You with your first album Across The Universe?
“My outlook on life; and by extension, love has changed as I’ve matured, and it’s affected the way I write, even if the songs are not necessarily about personal experience. That’s not to say my first album is immature, or something I regret doing, though! Both albums are about the different feelings that love can give you.
‘Across The Universe’ was mostly written about being with someone untouchable and dangerous for you, someone who makes your heart pound like crazy. It’s more an album for someone who’s starting to crush on someone- for example, ‘Eclipse’ is about the rush you feel when you become one with the other person, and ‘Singing in the Rain’ is about the euphoria you feel after that. You’re on top of the world!
‘To You’, though, is about heartbreak. The first three tracks are all in their own ways, about not wanting your lover to leave. They’re about pining and longing, about wanting to be better. The tracklist is arranged so that it tells a story- the songs after are about a breakup. There’s anger, denial, depression, acceptance and then, finally about moving on.
‘To You’ was written as a sort of sequel to ‘Across The Universe’, and if I had to simplify it, I think that ‘Across The Universe’ is about the beauty of falling in love, and ‘To You’ is the pain of falling out of it.”
Which song that you were involved in the creative process of was most difficult to create?
“While the other songs all presented their own unique challenges, I think ‘But, Are You?’ was the hardest to write. The lyrics are from the girl’s point of view, and her processing the breakup in her own unique way. She has a strong sense of pride, and the chorus of the song is about asking the person who broke up with her if they’ll be okay.
Moving on will be easy for her- at about the 1:50 mark in the song, she talks about how she’ll be able to live well, and that the only person she’s worried about is her ex. You understand throughout the song that she’s going to be able to accept and move on if they don’t rethink their decision properly, but the last part is her pleading for the other party to stay, because she’s never thought of a future without their presence in it. It’s sad when you re-listen to it, because now you know that she’s hiding that sort of pain behind her pride, and the other party probably doesn’t know it.”
What one song other than the singles would you most recommend people listen to off of the album? Why?
“Wish You Well! It’s warm and reassuring in its own way, and I think that when the friends who helped inspire this album get the chance to listen to it, they’ll be happy to hear the message of the song. I mean, doesn’t everyone want to receive a blessing to live well from someone they love, even if their relationship’s ended? I’m really, truly very grateful that I received this song from Taeyong, because it’s one of my favourite tracks. I actually had a really hard time recording the song, because I cried while listening to Taeyong recording his parts, and I just… wouldn’t stop crying for some reason. I hope everyone who still holds any pain or guilt in their hearts for their past relationships will be able to smile prettily after listening to this!”
Did you have any major inspirations when preparing this album?
“The album’s Korean title, 7월 7일 is actually a nod to the story of Vega and Altair. They were actually inspiration for my first album as well, but this album focused more on the sadness of their parting. Since they’re separated while still in love, I wanted to write about the devastation they must’ve felt. Of course, I wanted to modernise the folktale a bit, and so I wrote songs with that in mind as well as modern-day breakups where the couple are still in love, but one of them ends it. Real life doesn’t always work out as perfectly as we’d like, and I wanted to be able to write about the negative emotions that love leaves behind. When you put the titles of the album together, it can be read as ‘across the universe to you’, but also ‘to you, across the universe’. Depending on however you choose to listen to and interpret both albums, you can see it as the process of breaking up then falling in love again, or falling in love before being broken apart. Either way, it’s about the earnest heart of a girl who wants her love to be able to be conveyed even across the universe.”
What challenges did you face while making this album?
“My company was actually opposed to the idea of making this a more vocally-focused album, and it was supposed to be an album that continued to talk about heart-fluttering feelings. It was a bit hard to convince them to change their minds, but I think my idea of making this album the ‘sequel’ to the previous one might’ve been intriguing enough for them to give it a shot! That was actually the easy part, believe it or not. Both the company and I held the songs up to very strict standards, making the vetting process super rigorous. I think that for the 10 songs you see in the tracklist, there are maybe like… 90 unreleased that I’d written and done demos for just because I or the company didn’t feel like the vibe was right for the album.
I also don’t feel like I’m very gifted at singing- I’m not the main vocal for a reason. I re-rerecorded the songs a lot of times just because I didn’t feel satisfied with my technique. I pretty much stopped talking outside of schedules because I was so worried that my voice would go and I wouldn’t be able to record. Singing live on stage actually was a concern for me because I was genuinely terrified I’d lose my voice in the middle of a performance.”
What do you hope people take away from listening to this album, and is that different from what you had hoped they’d take away from your first album?
“Nothing has changed, because I still write with the same goal in mind. Of course I’d like for it to be able to pull at everyone’s heartstrings, but I think that’s impossible, right? To me, writing music is a way of keeping memories, and even though everyone might associate different things with the songs due to unique life experiences, I want them to be able to pause for a moment and have at least a lyric that 100% resonates with them. Music is a respite for me, and I want for my music to be a respite for them too.”
Where do you want to see your career as a solo artist go in the future?
“Of course continuing my solo career as a singer-songwriter, and maybe doing even more songs for other artists? I don’t really have any preference as to what else I want to do, but from what I’ve experienced, acting has been really fun and I’d like to try a role with a bit more depth to it in the future! Maybe a couple of CFs, like for earrings or food, too? But my main focus will definitely be on doing music! Maybe one of those 90 unreleased songs will see the light of day again.”
Do you have any other comments you’d like to make to your fans?
“I’m sad that promotions have ended, but I’ll be able to see you soon! I’m happy that you’ve supported me for so long and sadly, I don’t ever think that I’ll be able to make you as happy as you make me. I promise that I’m taking care of my health despite the schedules, and that I’ll continue to work hard for WISH and myself, and always put my best foot forward to show you a constantly improving version of myself. WISHing Wells are the biggest star, shining the most brightly in the dark universe! Thank you, and I love you more than the sun, moon and stars! Let’s stay together for a long time!”

Workouts, Supplements, and Addressing Misconceptions about Working Out

My first blog post titled “From the darkest of times to the best of times — All it takes is determination, hard work, and a realization that you can do it” talked about my weight loss journey of going from 221 pounds to 172 pounds. This journey required a lot of hard work, dedication, and discipline. I had to revamp my diet, spend a lot of time researching diets and exercises, and most importantly had to start exercising. I experienced a lot of setbacks throughout this journey, which is to be expected when getting into fitness, but it is how I persevered and responded to those setbacks that allowed me to achieve my goal and encouraged me to continue on my journey because my journey is far from being done. I am constantly trying to improve my health and wellbeing while learning new and innovative exercises and information about fitness that I try to incorporate in my life. In my first blog, I did not get into the specifics of what I was doing on a daily basis to lose weight and achieve my goal; therefore, this blog post talks about what I did and still do to achieve the physique that I wanted so badly, along with addressing misconceptions that are commonly held about working out.
My workouts
               My workout regimen, or workout “split”, consists of working out 5-6 days per week. I typically work out every muscle group once per week and then will choose a muscle group to work out twice. I typically try to work out my chest twice during a week as my chest is my weakest muscle area. When I am trying to cut weight (i.e. trying to lose body fat and become leaner), I do cardio around three to four times per week for 30-45 minutes as well as abdominal exercises. The following is my workout split for each day followed by an example workout, even though every workout I do incorporates different exercises and is constantly changing.
*Please note — if you do not know what an exercise is, I encourage you to Google it and find a video on how to do the exercise with proper form. Proper form can save you from injury as well as help you get the most benefit from the exercise.

Seven common misconceptions about working out
1.    Do you have to “break” a sweat for a workout to be beneficial?
You do not have to necessarily “break” a sweat for your workout to count. The most important aspects of working out are to get your body in motion while simultaneously raising your heart rate. The main purpose of sweating is to cool your body down. You will most likely find yourself sweating when you are working out, especially when you are just starting a training program or getting into fitness. Also note that if you’re older, particularly older women, you will probably not sweat as much. According to UC San Diego Health, “as you age you sweat less. Well, to be precise, you sweat differently, particularly if you’re a woman. Part of the change is related to menopause, i.e. hot flashes, but researchers have found that sweat glands (especially under the arms) shrink and become less sensitive as we age, which translates into reduced perspiration production.” If you can manage to raise your heart rate and move your body in some type of exercise, you will be working toward becoming more fit, which will most likely cause you to sweat.
2.    Exercise turns fat into muscle. While many people think this is true, it is actually false. The truth is that working out does not turn fat into muscle because you can’t turn one tissue into another. On the contrary, working out, especially strength training, helps build muscle and helps you burn more calories and lose fat.
3.   Lifting weights will make women bulk up. 
According to WebMD, because women have lower levels of testosterone (which helps build muscle mass) than men, it's harder for ladies to build muscle tissue in the first place, thus not allowing them to “bulk up”. Lifting weights allows for more calories to be burned while gaining muscle. A study published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research found that women who weight-trained burned an average of 100 more calories 24 hours after their training sessions ended, even if they were seated on the sofa. Another reason why women should start weight training is because just doing cardio is going to help you from gaining weight, but won’t necessarily help you with losing weight due to losing lean tissue when solely doing cardio.
4.    Restricting calories is the best way to lose weight.
False. According to SecondsCount.org, research has shown that changing your eating behaviors to lose weight works better if you also exercise. Therefore, the best way to lose weight is to be at a caloric deficit while also exercising. When I lost 50 pounds, I was on a strict diet where I tracked all my food down to the gram or ounce while also weightlifting and doing cardio. Losing weight is a combination of both exercise and diet that will get you the best results.
5.    Abdominal exercises will make you lose stomach fat.
Don’t believe this myth at all. Abdominals are made in the kitchen. You can’t control which part of your body will lose fat when you become physically active. Typically, when you start getting leaner, you will start to notice results in your face, then shoulders, then arms, and lastly your abdominals which are under a layer of fat tissue. Getting lean is the product of eating healthy and being in a caloric deficit. Exercising your abs will simply strengthen your abdominal muscles like any other lift would strengthen any other muscle.
6.    Stretching before exercise is critical.
This is true but it depends on what type of stretching you are doing. Dynamic stretching is the type of stretching desired before working out. The difference between dynamic and static stretching is that dynamic stretching is “a movement designed to take a joint or a muscle through a challenging and repetitive motion, moving a body part further with each repetition.” Dynamic stretching warms up your joints and muscles and prepares them for activation. I usually walk for 5 minutes on an inclined treadmill and also do other dynamic stretches before I work out. Static stretching is best for post-workout because static stretching uses “sustained stretches designed to hold a position for a joint or a muscle that is minimally challenging. The focus is on relaxing the body part being stretched and letting it go further on its own.”
7.    Reducing sedentary behaviors is not enough to improve physical fitness.
This is not true. Research shows that cutting back on sedentary activities, such as watching television, playing video games, or lying in bed watching Netflix [something I am very good at] will make you more mobile and lose more weight. According to express.co.uk, “standing instead of sitting for six hours a day could help people lose weight. Researchers found that by substituting standing for sitting for six hours a day, a 143.3-pound adult (65 kilos) would expend an extra 54 calories (kcals) in six hours - equating to 5.5 pounds (2.5 kilos) in one year and 22 pounds (10 kilos) over four years. So the next time you find yourself sitting watching television, try standing up and walking around or doing some type of exercise during the commercials.

I can never bring myself here to type because I dont want to face reality, and of course Im lazy. But there were many moments in my life that I did wish i documented and shared here. 
One being going cycling to Coney Island with N and H. H ended up getting into an argument with a dude who was using his motorised boat in the pond filled with terrapins and fishes. He simply expressed his concerns for the animals, but not in the most polite way. Of course, being a citizen of a country who’s people get triggered very easily, he approached H and started to pick a fight. I did interfere cause the dude brought up about how H is not a citizen of the country and he should not be messing around with locals with triggered me a lot. We did get stares from so many but I was so filled with rage that I didnt care. Thankfully his wife was kind and shared what she feel and a police was nearby to break thee fight. I keep replaying this situation and thought about what could have been done to prevent this. Should we have just walked off? Should I have stopped H? Should I get N to stop H? Idk..
Next, S constantly borrowing money from me every month now. I’m getting so frustrated because her finance management is so bad. She constantly waste money on cabbing to work, spending a bomb on food almost every week, and doesnt keep track of her expenditures. And I have to be the one who ‘suffers’ because I have to sacrifice my spending and relying on My Love occasionally to pay for my meals. Its not that I mind her lending the money. Its because i know where the money goes to and it pisses me off how the money can be used on other important items. Yes food is important, but is spending 6 bucks on a acai bowl important? I’m furious as to how she put the money, even if its her last couple of bucks. Come to think of it, I saved $100 extra last month cause she borrowed it from me. Thankfully, I can spend on Dad’s birthday a little more this year. Idk man. I bet she will borrow money from me again this month. Hopefully its not true. 
My ‘friends’ whom I dont really consider them as friends anymore cause I dont see any importance and I wanna keep my circle small, got married and engaged recently and I gotta admit that it hit me hard cause I feel like am I going at teh right pace? Idk bro lol. But its okay. Still studying its all good. Enjoying this life while I can. And plus, I dont think I’m mentally ready. I’m pretty proud that I cleansed my instagram cause keeping things close and intimate is so much better. Lesser people know the better. I used to tweet about anything and everything. But I dont anymore. 
Anyways, i just cried alone and vent out to My Love about how I dislike myself, which led me to here. I’m currently doing my practicum and honestly its one of the worst centres I’ve been to. Messy classroom, so many worksheets stacked, children are all over the place. And oh boy dont even get me started on the noise pollution!!!!! ITS NUTS. But!! The staffs are great and they are very welcoming, especially my host teacher. But I gotta admit, this COVID thing is really making educators work twice as hard cause of all the constant cleaning and safe distancing measures implemented. 
I havent been feeling myself lately, and everything triggers me so much. I tend to dwell on things thats has a negative impact on my life. I think its trauma and it gets to me so badly. I can suddenly think about those situations out of the blue. Especially when I’m alone and got nothing to think about. Idk whats happening to me and I am really worried for myself. I dont really have anyone to talk to about it just cause I dont want to relive it cause it sounds ridiculous to me. My Love doesnt seem to be worried about my well being. Its prolly me overthinking it but thats what I feel. I always put other’s first and I know I’m not a priority. Its okay. Whats new right?

You made me super curious about that veganism essay, if you ever feel like sharing, I'd really appreciate it (no pressure though!). I gave up dairy recently because it gave me almost daily headaches and I'm considering going fully vegan (I never really ate a lot of meat to begin with), but I find it really hard to make up my mind. I feel like a lot of the information out there is very us-centric too and doesn't really apply to me, so I'd love to hear a more European/international approach ^^
I did end up translating it, so here you go! :)
a few things I need to point out: I wrote this for a middle school student, so I didn’t delve too much into scientific facts — so please take everything I say with a grain of salt and do your own research if you’re curious, because these are things I learned after reading a lot of studies from certified nutritionists and medical researches.
I also most likely got a little preachy at times (sorry) but please remember that I’m not judging anyone because that is never my intention. I wrote this while keeping in mind that this girl needed it for a school debate where she needed to try and convince people of veganism, which is exactly what I tried to do. ^^” if you are still curious after reading and want to know what kind of documentaries to watch, let me know and I’ll be happy to lead you in that direction.
There are plenty of reasons to approach veganism, or to at least adopt some of the vegan principles into your everyday life; but the most important ones are health, the industry and the planet, and ethics.
Although a healthy diet does not necessarily need to be vegan, a plant based diet can be very beneficial for your body, especially for people with certain chronic diseases, deficiencies or to simply improve your overall health. It has been long since proved that nutrition is tightly linked to the reduction of particular symptoms and the improvement of the quality of life, and a plant based diet definitely carries these benefits. Personally speaking, veganism got rid of my migraines and stabilized my (otherwise disastrous) hormonal situation. It is also proved by nutritionists that a balanced vegan diet, based in real and varied foods, can cover almost every deficiency (except B12, which I will talk about in a second).
One of the myths that worry non vegans the most is the supposed lack of proteins in a plant based diet. This does not suppose any issue at all, as plant based foods are abundant in proteins and it is quite easy to reach the necessary daily intake as long as the diet is varied. A great example are grains — chickpeas, beans, lentils (these in particular are not considered complete proteins as they don’t carry all the amino-acids, but they can easily be completed by including another food that has said amino-acid into your diet, like rice, for example), tofu, tempeh, soy, etc. Plant based proteins are even of higher quality than animal based.
When it comes to supplementation, the only one that is absolutely necessary is B12. This vitamin comes from a bacteria which animals obtain from the ground and the food they’re fed (animals do not have the ability to manufacture vitamin B12), and we would obtain it if we did not wash our vegetables (which we obviously have to do), so it is not necessarily a bacteria that comes from the animals themselves. In some cases they’re even supplemented with said vitamin.
Plenty of people might argue that taking B12 supplements means that it is not a “natural” way of living or that we are not “designed” to be vegan, but in a world where we’re surrounded by technology, where we use phones and cars on a daily basis, what is natural is very relative and what is unnatural does not necessarily mean it’s harmful. The 21th century allows us to be vegan quite easily and that’s what truly matters, not that we were carnivores in the past. It may have been true that millions of years ago it helped us evolve, but we live in a time when we can lead a completely normal life without eating animals, especially if we take into account how harmful and dangerous the industry (industrial farming) has become.
Which leads me to my next point: the industry and the planet. The industry has definitely worsened over the years, as the more it expands and the more its production grows, the quality of the food gets worse and a piece of meat of one hundred years ago is completely different to the one they might sell you today, which is filled with chemicals, antibiotics, hormones… just so the animals grow faster and bigger and taste better. All of this is harmful for the human health (which is a longterm process you might not notice until you’re of adult age. After all, deficiencies take a long time to show up) and it also affects the quality of life of the animals. Unfortunately, there are very few regulations in the industry (both in America and in Europe), which continues to destroy natural landmarks and plays a huge part in the deforestation of the planet. This occurs because the industries need insane amounts of land to be able to grow the crops that serve as food for the animals. If you think about it, it’s quite illogical to destroy so much land to feed the animals that people will then feast on as processed meat full of hormones, instead of directly giving those crops to all the poor people around the world who have no food to get by.
At the same time, it is proved by diverse studies that animal farming produces more greenhouse gases than all of the transport clumped together, which has a huge effect on the planet and global warming. It is also a completely unsustainable system, as the demand continues to rise towards insane levels that the industry can’t even keep up with, which only worsens the deforestation issue. We have reached a point where every second more than three thousand animals are killed in inhuman ways, which only gets worse overtime. All of this is proved and studied through statistics (I really encourage everyone to do their own research on this), but most environmental organizations do not raise awareness as they are sponsored by the same powerful industries (Greenpeace, for example, is sponsored).

When it comes to ethics, I believe that everyone (or most people) would recoil if they saw the living conditions of these animals. As I mentioned before, there are not enough regulations in the industry that look out for the way they live, and the abuse and mistreatment of the animals is quite normal all over the world (even though I did my research through american studies, I was surprised to see that here in Spain it is actually way worse).
These industries only care about selling meat, not the animals. They’re beaten up, tortured, locked in enclosed spaces where they can barely move, they get so fat that their legs break under their weight, the hens get their beaks cut off (they are crammed so close together, they try to peck each other due to stress), and the chicks are gotten rid off by crushing them alive or getting thrown in the trash, where they asphyxiate due to lack of oxygen. It is quite cruel, and there are plenty of videos and documentaries where you can see that this is in fact very real. Earthlings is the most famous one.

Another discussion is related to organic meat, and if it is a good option when faced against veganism. Though it might be true that some companies treat their animals better, it is hard to be 100% certain as the regulations (and advertising tactics) can be quite confusing and ambiguous. In some places of the world it can be legal to say a product is organic just because the cages of the animals are just slightly bigger. From an ethical point of view, veganism is still the better choice. When it comes to health, I have to recognize that experts accept that there are lesser risks by eating high quality meats (except red meat, which is still unadvised by nutritionists) but if you compare how much you would spend a month eating organic meats against a whole foods plant based diet (without any processed junk or vegan substitute meats - they tend to be quite expensive, and that’s where the myth of veganism being expensive comes from) then the latter option is way cheaper and more comfortable.
One last argument I have to acknowledge is that veganism is said to be too “extreme”. In my opinion, it should not be considered something extreme or negative to do something good for your own body and for the planet, where the pros definitely outshine the cons. Meat should not be considered an essential staple into your diet, or something you need to be happy — if anything, it should be something additional, and it is crazy to think how so many people view vegetables that way when it should be the other way around. It should not be extremist to base your way of living around plant based sources, not when our society has forced people to believe that meat is essential for a healthy, happy living when it is far from the truth.
It is true that each case has to be treated differently, because each body is different and certain foods will suit some people better than others, but it is something relatively easy to delve into as long as you do your extensive research and are aware of what you’re doing. Veganism is not extremist at all as long as you have the knowledge and the support of a professional, as any changes in your diet (not necessarily related to veganism) needs to be monitored by a doctor.
Veganism should not be perceived that way — because in my opinion, it is mainly focused on reducing animal suffering in the best way we can. It is not absolute. It is not giving up everything in your life. We cannot solve all the problems of the world, but we can make an effort into supporting one cause and having a positive influence in it within our possibilities. We are only human, and just because we are defending one cause in particular (in this case, animals), it does not makes us hypocrites nor insensitive to human issues. There will always be unjust situations we will not be able to solve, and it is in our hands to choose our own battles.
Being vegan does not mean torturing yourself for it, it does not mean to stop enjoying life or getting obsessed with food just to “live a few years longer”. One argument I always see is that we will die sooner or later, so we have to live the way we want to and in the best way possible without worrying too much about those causes or the way we nourish our bodies. But if you truly want to lead an optimal, happy life, and leave a good print before you leave this world, should it not mean giving your body good, delicious and healthy foods that affect positively both your health and the animals, so you can lead an even better life? it is quite disappointing to see that veganism and a healthy plant based lifestyle are so related with “unhappiness” or “obsessing yourself” when it is the complete opposite. When it is done for the right reasons, when it is done right, it does not suppose any major struggle and it can turn around your life for the better. A well balanced plant based diet can even give you a better emotional wellbeing (scientifically proved), which inevitably comes with more happiness.
It is not extreme, it is simply making an effort (which can obviously be hard at first, but easily becomes natural as long as you do it right). Even just going to a restaurant and ordering the vegetarian menu instead of the one with meat does so much good, because you’re creating demand for those kind of products and are showing the world that there is growing interest in this kind of lifestyle.
And I have to add that even though I do defend veganism, I also defend small steps, and that being conscious of these situations and trying to approach some of the ideals of veganism (like meatless mondays, for example), is already beyond incredible in itself, and it is something anyone could easily do. I am sure that a lot of people would genuinely consider the entire transition if they at least tried some of these small steps and saw how easy and fulfilling it is. The sensation you get when you know you’re doing something good (for yourself and for the planet) when there is no meat on your plate is quite indescribable, even more pleasing than the act of eating meat. There are just too many advantages to this kind of lifestyle, and I promise it is truly worth it in the long run.
