I feel like many people have a fundamental misconception of what unreliable narrator means. It's simply a narrative vehicle not a character flaw or a sign that the character is a bad person. There are also many different types of unreliable narrators in fiction. Being an unreliable narrator doesn't necessarily mean that the character is 'wrong', it definitely doesn't mean that they're wrong about everything even if some aspects in their story are inaccurate, and only some unreliable narrators actively and consciously lie. Stories that have unreliable narrators also tend to deal with perception and memory and they often don't even have one objective truth, just different versions. It reflects real life where we know human memory is highly unreliable and vague and people can interpret same events very differently

#the way some people (usually lestat fans lol) talk about louis being an unreliable narrator has frustrated me #i still insist louis' unreliableness is mostly subtle (passing quickly over things he doesn't want to think about #presenting things that factually happened in a way he can build a story that makes sense to him #not knowing what lestat is thinking and feeling so interpreting him differently than lestat himself probably would) #rather than he's telling something that didn't really happen or is under armand's mind control or something #like for example i think it's been made very clear all the abuse really happened they're not gonna suddenly pull the rug from under it #if anything i feel lestat is going to turn out to be even worse than louis perceived him when we hear people who are not in love w him lol #keanu.txt

forever obsessed with dynamics between vampires, specifically that of a maker and fledgling, as a way to explore abuse. the creation of a vampire itself can so easily be a literalization of the lasting impacts of trauma and also much more simply the ways a perpetrator might shape their victim’s very identity. the extremes of isolation in the way that the new vampire, in most narratives, must cut all ties to their mortal life, or else go through an elaborate charade to maintain the facade of humanity, while forever still being removed from it. and the sheer dependence and vulnerability of being in an entirely new state of being, wholly uncertain of what it entails, and relying on another person to define… everything.

louis really drained lestat of the poisoned blood and claimed he bled him like a pig. he claimed he and claudia mutually couldn’t burn his body and then wept over his corpse as claudia wrote with lestat’s blood. he claimed they wrapped him in a rug and disposed of him like trash but there is a rug directly next to the coffin as the garbage men take it away. louis says “love” like it’s something he’s never felt towards lestat when daniel calls him out, but he followed lestats dying words, put him in their coffin that latches from the inside and sent him to a place filled with enough sustenance to survive, just incase. This man is insane help-

There is a note of surprise in Louis' first words to Daniel (“You've grown old, Daniel.”). For all that Louis has observed Daniel from a distance over the years, despite his being so familiar with Daniel’s autobiography that he has fixated on minor details within (“There was an offhanded remark in your memoir about this dessert. I hope you don't mind.”) and can immediately find the page of a specific passage, Daniel’s mind is unfamiliar to Louis in a way he does not seem to expect. It is such a contrast to Louis’ letter to Daniel, where he writes as though the pair aged together (“The passage of time and the frailties that accompany it have provided me perspective. And I suspect the same might be for you, as well.”), describing their previous attempt at the interview failing due to a shared “boyish youth”, even though Louis was almost a century old when it took place. Time does not mean the same to an immortal being, and the series leaves it ambiguous whether a vampire and a human can ever really understand that difference.

Louis smiled at the flowers and asked if they had anything for him to sign but he was hurried, so Louis asked them to wait until he return from the radio station so he could spend some time with Rena, and Ben repeated the instructions. One of Louis' bodyguards was translating for them. When Louis returned to the hotel, he and Rena hugged and Louis signed a DVD and CD.

Thinking about Lestat seeing Louis’s eating patterns as a waste of his gift/himself while Armand gives Louis food that he literally can not enjoy or digest just so he has something on his stomach
