yeah like we're told that sylvie has this tragic backstory and is this tragic and traumatized character but we never really see it so it doesn't feel real or emotionally evocative. in thor 2011 for example we se loki's pain and the rawness of his emotions. we see the turmoil and the complexity and the tragedy. sylvie's just out there like "yeah I have a sad backstory; it says so here" -_-
I also must say I despise the "because you can't trust and I can't be trusted" line for a few reasons, one of them being that Sylvie's 'trust issues' are remembered but forgotten conveniently???
In episode 3 she says "I can't sleep in a place like this (...) I can't sleep around untrustworthy people," then in the next scene she is waking up??? Like. It's a minor thing. But if Sylvie is a liar/betrays as a Loki this would be acceptable, EXCEPT, Sylvie is treated as an exception to this, with no one doubting her intentions when Loki's are, and the narrative supporting her side of the story.
In episode 5 Mobius shows up with a car and tells her to get in and she just sits in the back even once they've driven far?? This is a TVA Agent, SPECIFICALLY THE ONE THAT WAS TRYING TO HUNT HER DOWN, so what happened to ruthlessly killing them? Sylvie and Mobius hadn't interacted positively before....... why are they suddenly non-hostile???
We also get no information on why she could have trouble trusting people! She was taken from her home as a child, but her parents hadn't lied to her about her origins and she knew she was adopted. If she was alone through the apocalypses it implies she wasn't trusting anyone anyway...? It's not as though TVA agents were deceptive and she had to learn to be careful since she couldn't be found in apocalypses, (something which we're not told how she knows are safe spaces but ignore this i guess).
Loki on the other hand is constantly treated as a backstabbing liar, with Sylvie getting room to doubt Loki constantly but Loki not doubting Sylvie or Mobius, and that he is shown to be too trusting isn't kept consistent either, so anyone can do anything at any given time, but it's likely to be what the plot requires and is most predictable.
