I'm rewatching the season 8 of GOT, and it's amazing how it gets worse each time each time I notice a new inconsistency. the fact that the prophecy was for nothing, and how with arya killing the night king it made me understand that anyone could kill him, this person just had to have aegon's dagger in their hands like (???)

Why would you do that to yourself?? Forget rewatching, I haven't even watched the final episode (and I never will) 😭

The past few seasons of that show made no sense and I'm tired of people pretending otherwise. It was literally that "anyone could've killed him"; they just shuffled through characters to find one that "felt right" and even considered the Hound or Brienne. The only options should've been Jon or Dany, but Jon would've been "too obvious" (as though being able to tell where the plot is going is a bad thing) and Dany killing the Night King would've been "too heroic" for a character they desperately wanted to demonize. So we were left with...what we got, which really highlights how poorly D&D handled all of these characters. They made Arya's story all about being a fighter, erasing the majority of her development from the books, and then they didn't even make space for her to use those skills. Her face-changing skills never came up after she killed the Freys, she didn't carry out any actual assassinations (they didn't even consider sending her to kill Cersei?), and if they hadn't decided that she would kill the Night King she wouldn't have done anything significant. With the "Ed Sheeran was a surprise for Maisie's last season" thing I doubt they even initially planned for her to survive the entire time, which would've made her story even more pointless. They put no effort into writing her character and just did "whatever was most badass", but I'm supposed to believe that their writing for Arya is anywhere close to what George is writing for her 🥴

I still can’t believe there are people who think that Will “I’m not gonna fall in love, just kidding I am in love already but I think I’ve been rejected so let’s rip off the bandaid” Byers isn’t going to get what he wants…in a show whose whole premise started with his abduction and is, by it’s creators own repeated admission, both going to focus on him the final season + about championing the underdog and the outcast.

It really is that simple, because once you know what the Duffers value...even if you haven’t dug that far into the show, it’s obvious where the “it started with Will, it will end with Will” is taking us based on tropes alone, if you listen to anything The Duffers say about their themes and narrative goals.

You don't even need color coding or parallels to other media to sort through it, because outside of any "but it was the 80s" commentary or "they would never break up the flagship couple" talk...Byler is literally just the logical thematic conclusion for Will's arc as the full embodiment of the outcasted, childlike AND the underdog, even if you don't like what they did to get our characters there.

Like? Will is literally the boy who represents the duffers love of being a “child at heart” and taking things you adored from your youth into being a grown up (see: their entire mf show being based on DnD and the media they loved as kids) on top of being a queer, poor, and regularly disrepected character.

He is the textbook representation of the outcast and underdog energy The Duffers love, to the point where you could hardly fit more "marginalized and imperfect" checkboxes into him without making him poc...and yet people actually believe he is going to be rejected not because there is no setup, or because there is no precedence for the storyline but solely because his love interest (who also has a non-conformity storyline and who is already making heart eyes at him) is currently dating a girl...and it would be "realistic" for him to get rejected? ☠️

Not to mention...I haven't even touched on how byler resolves Mike's own thematic issues and it already makes the most sense? Like?

How do you miss the most obvious plot twist setup in history not because its not blatantly set up, but because you’re homophobic? It really does have to be the blindness of heteronormativity thats driving most of this, because if you were a media literate homophobe, you would be screaming at the Duffers for doing it, not denying it’s happening at all. now i HIGHLY recommend checking this out for yourself (a curated playlist that i made can be found here! it's pretty short but. imo the themes of it carry it in SUCH an interesting way), but if you don't have the time/want more. propaganda reasons why you should watch it, there's more under the cut!

(mild cw though for the "having a voice in your head through magic items/powers" trope! it plays a very small part in the story, but i'd figure i'd give a heads up just in case 👍)

ok so like. this arg happens in the canon of lifesteal season 4 (lifesteal seasons fully reset like hc seasons) and the main "progatanist" of this arg is c!midmysticx/c!mid, and most of the "lore" is told in the format of vhs tapes

that being said, c!mid is a little confusing in the way that s4!mid is implied to be a different character that c!mid from other seasons

i say that bc s4!mid made an "application video" for lifesteal, citing about how shes excited to join (even tho cc!mid has been a part of ls since s2)

also. very interestingly, mid excludes herself from the s4 start in a replay shot (even tho cc!mid was present during the s4 launch)

and interesting enough, s4!mid seems a bit. naive in the application video? like she mentions she's "good at editing" as one of her attributes on why she should be added to the server and mentions. nothing about the violence of the server (other than introducing the mechanics of the server which is LITERALLY about killing people to gain hearts and losing hearts when you get killed)

halfway through her application video, though (after a few months passed according to the date on the bottom of each video) she sounds very. bitter

the video changes to be all in black and white and she starts asking: "why? why do you all kill and ruin friendships and betray? all for hearts?!"--a MUCH different demeanor than what she had when she started. bitter and resentful, almost, compared with the excitement she showed earlier in her "application", and it ends with her announcing she stole the dragon egg and she's made 4 trials for people to look for it

anyways, moving onto the first tape that takes place ~around 2 months before the shift in demeanor, s4!mid starts to record video tapes about experiments she's doing with the dragon egg, eventually combining a heart with the dragon egg and opens up a portal

she doesnt know what on Earth it is so. shes testing it out right. like any person with safety concerns would

and well uh.

she puts a pig through and it fucking died

so . Erm! not a good start

anyways she eventually feels a voice/urge calling her to go through the portal even though she knows its risky, but she's been having such bad headaches that she goes through the portal anyways, ditching her plans to figure out how to control the power of the egg before going through it

and uh. heres where things get confusing again because this is where. the interdimensional stuff comes in

she arrives in an unknown location right. and. jumpscare . it ends up being a manor (and i'm just gonna call this mid "murder mystery!mid" bc the manor is the same one in one of her other videos, a halloween special where mid + co do a whodunit)

and basically, s4!mid witnesses a mayor election (which is a big part of murder mystery!mid's story), and after s4!mid explores for a little, s4!mid and murder mystery!mid eventually . make eye contact

and um. you see. s4!mid accidently eavesdrops (im assuming so? there's a tape of that and its been established that s4!mid films all of them herself) on murder mystery!mid's plan to kill the mayor and Uh. s4!mid. ends up also witnessing murder mystery!mid's murder as well

s4!mid gets chased and has to go back to the portal to escape, but the issue is. the portal doesnt bring her back to lifesteal. it brings her to eclipse smp

AND FUCKING BRINGS HER TO ECLIPSE!MID'S GRAVE

she eventually sees someone crying over eclipse!mid's grave before going away into the woods before hearing a sound and running away

that's where the arg (unfortunately) had to be cut off but like. Still. the part that makes me constantly rotate this arg in my head is the fact mid literally saw her own death. the different versions of her. her witnessing a version of her that was Willing to commit murder. the whole change in demeanor in the application video in such a short time .

anyways, if i had to homebrew an "ending" to this arg, i think mid would have traced back and started to Learn more about the other versions of herself, and eventually had a character arc where she just. witnesses all of this destruction and pain and suffering

and just. Realizes how much of that there can be and realizes how much stuff like that effects lifesteal and how. pointless it is in the end.

and eventually, in a last ditch effort to have everyone work together again and despite all she's been through, makes the egg arg

also on a meta level it would make sense i think (since a lot of the actual arg puzzles involved trust and working together and trusting your teammates)

and on the topic of the egg arg meta, it fucking worked. the lifestealers did work together and put trust in each other even when threatened with death to solve the arg.

it did bring lifesteal together. even just for a little bit

and i am just. man thats fucking cool!!!!!!

not to mention just. the cool character study stuff you can do on c!mid. the thought of seeing yourself throughout all of this. realizing about how these things can effect you in different ways. witnessing your own death TWICE. and by the time to come up because of it, you're a changed person on a fundamental level. and in the end, looking at the thing that caused all of this, and throwing it out there in a last ditch effort to make things right again. in the worst scenario. even though you're bitter and angry now. you try anyways.

that concept is so. cool to me . i wish more people talked about it but yk. this is me throwing my hat into the ring

Heteromantic views on gender and homosexuality on classical Brazilian literature

What a pompous title. Ignore it because I'm a teenager studying stem on college, all the shit discussed here is from my head. Also, I'll only talk about how relationships between men were represented, there is only one classical Brazilian book that shows attraction between women and I haven't read it yet. Maybe other day.

Also for reference, my other post who gave me idea to do this one. On it, I discussed how even on a relationships between two men the authors of Bom-Crioulo (Adolfo Caminha, 1895) and O Ateneu (Raul Pompeia, 1888) seem to not be imagine how a relationship could work outside of the heteromantic moldes. Now, I'll talk about how those views on gender could have impacted the creation of the dynamics the gay couples.

I understand that the way gender was viewed back then is different from how we see it today, and this post will be full of assumptions based on the knowledge I got from high school and some youtube videos which is another reason for not taking anything I say too serious.

Now to the essay per se.

In antient Greece, a relationship between two men was not uncommon and was not frown upon if you weren't the one in "the woman's position". The reason for this "strange" way of dealing with the situation could be summerized by this phrase: “Everything in the world is about sex, except sex. Sex is about power.” and how gender is perceived because of it.

If men are seen as rational, powerful and women are seen as emotional, weak , sex an act of dominance, and subsequently desire, become attach to the masculine. Which means this action is deprived of emotions and vulnerability. That is why so many men can brag about their conquers, having sex is nothing more than a challenge, something to dominate. With this we end up having sex and sexual attraction to women being deeply linked to masculinity as they are another way to show and exert power.

Of course the way women are shamed and disencouraged when it is about sexual activities cannot be explained only by what I'm saying here, there is more nuance. However, if we look through how homosexuality is portrayed in the books by those lens much can be explained on my opinion (also I'm teenager not a researcher on the area).

But first, let's discuss why in the two book plus O Cortiço (Aluísio Azevedo, 1890) represent homosexuality with emasculated men. It is quite simple actually: if manliness is defined, to a considerable extent, by sexual attraction to women, lacking this trait makes a man incapable of being "truly mainly". Not only that but as we defined, sex is about dominance and by being attracted to men, a man puts himself on the position of being dominated, of being weak. In those simple and reductive ways of seeing gender, a gay man ends up having much more in common with a woman and that is why we get the emasculation and the feminization.

But there is a catch. Sexual attraction is not a characteristic of womanhood and if gay men are put with woman they can't express sexual attraction to men. Sexual attraction and the power game that comes should not be displayed by weak and emasculated men.

That is why the "mainly" characters on the books are the ones who show sexual attraction not the emasculated ones. Besides the ideas complement each other. Sexual attraction is a thing for men, not only that but sexual attraction to the feminine. Therefore the manly gay man shows attraction to a emasculated and feminine men.

Ma'am, that is simply not possible. If you took the time to research and truly understand astrology, you'd get it, you'd totally get why that is. Because in order for what you're saying to happen:

We'd have to remove said sign from the birth chart. Like a pizza. Except that's not possible because a birth chart is NOT a pizza.

A chart, even if the houses are not evenly divided, will always have the 12 signs:

Not this (for example: Scorpio is missing). This is simply not possible:

No matter, whether you like it or not, you have every sign in you. Some are just more in the spotlight, but they're there. They'll always be there!

HOUSES:

If A) a planet is in the first house, or B) it's in a house it's comfortable in (like the sign of that planet is in that sign's ruling house):

Exhibit A:

If you have Mercury in the 1st house: you'll have Gemini/Virgo energy/vibes, etc etc, even if you have no planets in those two.

Exhibit B:

You have Gemini Venus and it's in the 7th house (Libra is the ruler of this house and Libra is a co-ruler of Venus) so you'll have more Libra Venus traits compared to other Gemini Venus people, even if you have no planets in Libra in your chart.

RULERSHIPS (PLANETS & HOUSES):

Always remember that planets and houses have signs ruling over them.

Example:

Even if you have a Scorpio Venus, have no planets in Taurus or Libra at all, these two signs still have a hold on your Scorpio Venus as they literally rule that planet, it's not like they're leaving, passing the crown to Scorpio, they're still there, ruling, just think of Scorpio as their business partner from another kingdom, asking to create a project with Libra and Taurus.

So Taurus and Libra are there, in the background, watching over Scorpio execute and take the lead of the project while they're the financial backer, etc.

Another example:

This time with houses- Your 8th house is in Leo and ends in Virgo. Virgo and Leo are part of your 8th house. Imagine them as very important guests from other kingdoms coming to the kingdom of the 8th house, where the ruler is Scorpio, for a very important meeting. The guest from the Leo place is a prince while the guest from Virgo is a duke (since the 8th house is in Leo and not Virgo, so Leo has a higher rank and more power over it).

Or, if you don't like the comparison I made, think of modern companies. Think of music labels. Think of Leo and Virgo as Capitol Music Group and their partner/main distributor being Universal Music Group (Scorpio) lol.

Now what about intercepted houses?

Yes, it's still like that. For example: Your 3rd house starts in Leo and ends in Libra and not Virgo. Even if no house is in Virgo, Virgo is still part of the 3rd house; she's still there, even if it's muted compared to other signs. And with the kingdom+guests comparison: Still the same, except this time, there's 3 guests, not 2.

ASPECTS:

Aspects. Aspects. Depending on aspects, you will most certainly have an energy of a sign if their ruling planet is prominently aspected, even if you have no planets in this sign.

Example:

If neptune is in aspect to your ascendant or chart ruler or both, you'll radiate some Pisces energy/appearance even if you have no planets in Pisces.

DEGREES:

Degrees do have an effect/influence on the chart, seriously.

Example:

Someone (me) with a Scorpio Moon in a Leo degree will be more emotionally dramatic and less emotionally guarded compared to someone (friend) with a Scorpio Moon in a Taurus degree.

ASTEROIDS:

So many asteroids in the solar system alone, that they'll literally be in every sign, every house, every corner of your chart if you plug them all in: BUT, you have to check if the asteroid is prominent in your chart, if it's prominently aspected, etc etc.

DEEPEST DEEP DIVES YOU'LL EVER DIVE AND MORE:

Astrology is never-ending, it's infinite in many ways if you keep digging and digging. A literal goldmine for people who don't want to run out of things to analyze and study. I don't recommend this part to beginners especially if they haven't got the grasp of their birth chart by at least 80% - but if it does not resonate, go ahead, go crazy:

There are many, and I say MANY, types of astrology methods/charts you can drown yourself in. A bunch of rabbit holes:

Persona charts, planet returns, harmonic charts, transits, midpoints, etc. You can even try to make various relationship charts with your natal and these (ex. Make a composite chart of your natal and moon persona chart as an experiment).

And no, I haven't fully mastered any of these as well. I understand them, but when it comes to interpretations? Byeee.

Also, the fact that there are many astrology tools/methods that exist but is inaccessible to the majority of people (including me)- okay, I'll stop. (If you're curious though, I'm always here.)

i don’t like the post going around that’s like “u need to eat vegetables even if ur autistic and it’s hard i promise u can find a way to prepare them that works!!!” it just feels . Bad. No hate to the person who made it bc that advice does work for some people, but when you’re specifically including autistic ppl who are more likely to deal with ARFID (like me) that sort of advice can come off as really patronizing and rude. eating disorders are not rational, and it typically doesn’t matter how the food is prepared . Some people just can’t eat certain things and instead of being like “you can do it i promise push your boundaries!!” I would instead recommend supplements to get the vitamins you need. also like—nobody *has* to be healthy. Like obviously if you are able to get the nutrients you need you should but in the case of people who *can’t* they are not lesser or just not trying hard enough; they are ppl who deserve respect and autonomy over their own choices. Idk just rubbed me the wrong way.
