It’s time for music headcanons with the batfam, bc if I don’t get this out of my head and onto page, I’m going to implode.
Fave first, Dick is definitely a indie pop/indie rock kinda boy. Not just because I identify with that, but also bc he gives me those overly energetic, bubbly vibes, that I feel like only come from Grouplove, Vampire Weekend, and Adam Melchor. I also feel like he’s a Mitski and Boygenius kinda bitch, bc ough, boY, he has angst. Said angst can only be expressed through sad girl music, bc he will die before he ever expresses his feelings about anything to anyone.
NEXT we have Jason, I think he’s an emo ass boy, ngl, but specifically like folk punk. He listened to twin sized mattress one time, broke down crying, and hasn’t looked back. Also things like The Mountain Goats, PUP, or Modern Baseball. Ugh, I could make a whole ass playlist for this boy. If he’s with other ppl, I think he’d play something more mainstream of the emo genres, like Arctic Monkeys or The Strokes.
DAMIAN, I THINK, IS COMPLICATED. So, for one thing, he grew up in a weirdo environment, where they probably never listened to music, and if they did, it was “”tasteful”” music, for rich ppl. That, or it was culturally significant. So, I think I’m his exposure to music after moving in with Bruce, he started just absorbing absolutely all the music he could. Like, he’s an everything enjoyer. His spotify liked songs are a minefield, bc one second it’ll be playing Chet Baker, next it’s Viagra Boys, then some country shit, then Chopin, and then it’s Lil Nas X.
BABS, I think, would be a folk music/sad girl music enthusiast. She really likes Ryan Adams, Phoebe Bridgers, Hoizer, Mitski, etc. It’s something that she and Dick bonded over when they first started dating. I think with her, she appreciates the calm/slightly sad music bc she lives in a rlly crazy world, and she just wants to meditate a little when she’s sitting at that desk all day, trying to keep her family and friends alive.
Timmyyyyyy is a Kpop enjoyer. Sorry, I don’t make the rules. Specifically, he probably likes SEVENTEEN or ATEEZ a lot. He actively tries, every day of his life, to not stan any of the members, but it’s rlly hard when he’s had two hours of sleep in the past week, and Yoon was just really cute in that last interview. I also think he’s really into trap and pop. He knows all the lyrics to every recent song on the top 100 list.
Duke, I think is really into R&B. I think he’s amenable to pop/rock/rap, etc., but he really just wants something to belt out. Common occurrences are finding him in the kitchen, making an omelette, singing Amy Winehouse at the top of his lungs. If u catch him doing it tho, he gets rlly shy. His guilty pleasure is theatre music. He has to bribe his family to go see Little Shop of Horrors with him.
Stephanie has a 2000s-2010s pop addiction. Anything that makes her feel like Hannah Montana is her SHIT. She’s out here blasting Bubblegum Bitch and early Taylor Swift. You also can and will find her crying to sad One Direction songs. When she’s moody, she will unironically play My Chemical Romance. She understands pop punk a lil bit, but the lyrics tend to get male-manipulator-y, so she sticks with the bands she already knows.
Alfred likes 50s/60s jazz/pop. Frank Sinatra, Chet Baker, etc. It reminds him of home, and of his family. He also really likes old French music, like Joe Dassin. I’m ngl, I don’t know old music enough to add more to this one, but u get the idea 😭
BRUCE. Ugh. He’s definitely the kind of dad who never moved past the music of his childhood. He firmly believes that the Beatles is the best band of all time, and no one can convince him otherwise. I think he tends to gravitate towards the rock/goth end of 70s/80s music, so things like the Cure, New Order, maybe a lil bit of Siouxsie and the Banshees. His goth phase was INTENSE, Alfred can attest to this.
Edit: HOLY SHIT I CANT BELIEVE I FORGOT CASS 😭😭😭
Ok, Cass is defo a similar situation to Damian, grew up with literally silence, so music is a super new thing to her. But I think she really enjoys all kinds of genres. I think that especially instrumentals get her, bc it’s just noises that she can focus on, no lyrics to distract her from the sound. I think she also likes to “sing” along to said instrumentals, but mostly it’s just making noises to the same beat and sound, but it’s very off-key.

hey Krok, hope you are having a lovely Christmas eve! can I get 2, 5, and 28 for a barbie for your choice for the christmas eve special OC asks?
• OC Ask Game •

WHAT SORT OF MUSIC WOULD THEY LIKE? HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT GENRES OR BANDS DO THEY LEAN TOWARDS? DO THEY HAVE A FAVORITE SONG?
Nev listens to a lot, but she gravitates to indie rock, pop punk and other alternative genres. She likes a handful of mainstream pop songs and is a shameless lover of Britney Spears. There's some Abba in there, some Fleetwood Mac and even the likes of AC/DC and Iron Maiden. Her favourite artist is likely somebody like Mitski.
Tumblr media
HOW DO THEY TYPICALLY DRESS? DOES THEIR WARDROBE LEAN MORE TOWARDS PRACTICALITY OR AESTHETICS?
Given Nev's animal motifs are little birds and mice, I tend to include those in her clothing features— she has a patched/embroidered denim jacket that she loves. She goes for a variety, but must common fits are ditzy dresses/skirts, sneakers/brogues, mom jeans that she cuffs up, oversized tees/cardigans and sweaters/button ups. Her colour palette is typically more earthy; there's always a lot of green and her favourite shade of yellow. She enjoys her fun graphics and motif t-shirts, pin badges and patches etc— her clothing often has visible repairs with patched fabric/coloured threads.
Tumblr media
HOW DO THEY SHOW THAT THEY CARE ABOUT SOMEONE? HOW DO THEY EXPRESS THAT THEY DON'T LIKE SOMEONE?
Nev is very giving— she likes to bake for people, will run errands and do chores in typical acts of service. She bothers to know a person; to remember what they like, how they like it etc. She's prone to handmaking gifts, like scrapbooks and cards alongside larger things. Comfort and company are her defaults— she tries to take care of people in tbe ways she knows how.
Being disliked by Nev is a feat in itself. She typically avoids people she absolutely does not like and will try to distance herself, but she attempts to be unconfrontational. However, if pushed to a point, she can be bold with her dislike of people to the degree she will be openly vocal about it, but never cruel.

Have you had more hot or cold drinks today?
Cold. I had one cup of coffee this morning because I was exhausted. I don't even like coffee.
What's a name you like that's similar to yours?
I think Jolene is a pretty nice name.
Where did you get the last plate/bowl you ate with from?
It's from a set that my granny gave me once.
How's your mental health today?
Pretty good to be honest. I haven't felt this content in two weeks. I had a great day at work and I feel pretty relaxed.
What bands and artists did you listen to when you were a teenager?
I had a huge emo phase where I listened to lots of Green Day, All Time Low, Blink 182, My Chemical Romance etc, and then I went into a punk and hardcore phase where I listened to a lot of Swedish local punk. In my late teens I started listening to indie pop and rock a lot like The 1975, Arctic Monkeys and The Vaccines. Oh and I had a 5 Seconds of Summer phase when I was 14.
Do your feelings get hurt easily?
It depends, I think. In some ways I don't care what people think of me, but I have weak spots where I can tend to misinterpret things people say to me for no reason. It's not a charming trait.
What sort of restaurant did you last eat at?
Italian.
Do you have a friend who's always sending you TikTok videos? Do you actually watch them?
No.
Have you ever seen a cougar in the wild?
Nope.
Will you attend a wedding in the next 3 months?
No.
Are you good at following instructions?
I guess I'm average? Not sure.
What's your backyard or outdoor area like?
There's not a lot. A little lawn with a bench on it basically.
Do you like your boss? (or your last boss if you don't currently have one)
I like her. I mean, I've only worked at my current job for two weeks but I know her from before and I always thought that she seems reasonable. I guess time will tell.
When was the last time you took a selfie?
I don't even remember.
What did you have for breakfast yesterday?
Didn't have any.
What do you do to entertain yourself on a long flight or journey?
I always bring a book and then I also listen to podcasts or music. If it's a longer flight, I might download something on Netflix to watch.
Where are you right now?
In my living room.
Have you ever done a hearing test?
I have a vague memory of doing so some time as a child? Not sure why though.
Do you hate small talk?
Yeah kind of.
What's the hottest temperature your current town/city has ever had?
I have no idea. Maybe 33 or something.
What programs/applications do you currently have open on the device you're using right now?
Just a translation website.
How many steps per day do you do, generally?
No idea.
Have you had any snacks today?
I had a piece of chocolate at work from a box that a patient's family remember gave us as a thank you for our end of life care. It's so nice when they show appreciation. Everyone should show appreciation for healthcare workers. We get so much shit thrown at us.
What's the next thing you'll tick off your to-do list?
I gotta pick up a package from the gas station. It was so annoying because I went there today to pick up a package and then when I got home I saw that I got a letter saying that I had another package to pick up.
Have you ever had a chia pet?
Nope.
What's your favourite sandwich filling?
Just mozzarella, tomato and pesto is a lovely filling.
Do you have any nieces or nephews?
No.
What was the last reason you saw a doctor?
That was when I was admitted to the psych ward.
Do you use light mode or dark mode on your phone?
Dark.

Hetalia Matchup: North Italy/Veneziano
Warnings: Fluff.
Anonymous Request: Hi Hi hi! i’m sending this in for a match up!
My name is Rose/Eri! i’m hoping for a romantic match up for hetalia if that’s alright.
i’m 5’5 - 5’4? like 165 cms. i’m l chubby but like in a curvy way i guess? i’ve dyed my hair purple/magenta(?) recently but my tips is still blonde. it’s like naturally a brownish-black though, i’ve found like bits of red before? it’s like shoulder length rn but i’m trying to grow it out. it’s in locs! i have dark brown eyes that almost look black.
i’m an artists sorta! still learning and all that but i love art! i think art is core to the way i process things in general it’s really important to me. i’m interested in physiology, i am actually arm chair diagnosing you as we speak. i think understanding how humans work and why they work that way is really interesting especially when it comes to coping mechanisms and how that relates TO art. i’m like heavily adhd ridden so generally i bounce between interests very often. i like video games, i like animated shows, anime etc etc. i’m really into indie music, punk music, alt music. i’m into pop occasionally but i generally lean towards rock. i’m trying to learn to cook and clean better!! it’s never been something i’m good at but i don’t LIKE that i wanna be able to take care of the people around me AND myself. i’m pretty good at cooking but i’m not too good on the cleaning part still.
i’m the eldest of 3 in my family so i can be bossy at times but i don’t MEAN to be. i worry and i fuss but it feels like my job to take care of others or have a plan. this doesn’t apply to everyone, i don’t TRUST as readily as i want to but if i think someone genuinely needs support i’ll try my best to offer it. i’m not usually good around new people i get nervous very easily and that can make talking to people hard. especially if i feel intimidated or alone i think sometimes i can even come off as shy or distant but when i’m comfortable i will talk my heart out i’m a rambler to the highest degree and i’ll talk about anything and everything. i have a very expressive face and i talk with my hands it can be a lot but i try not to overwhelm. i get anxious easily especially about things being MY FAULT but when i’m comfortable with someone i feel completely able to call them out. I think i can even come off as naggy, i think it comes with the eldest sibling territory though. i LIKE taking care of people and feeling useful to others i like it a lot but i also like feeling stable and like i can be taken care of ya know? i can be sorta sensitive sometimes but ya know i’m aware of it and i’m trying to be better. i’m generally passive and a follower but i won’t follow ANYBODY, ya know? i like to be lead but i have my own beliefs and i’ll stick by them. and i’ll take charge if i feel like i HAVE TO i won’t enjoy it i don’t really want to but if it’s what’s needed i’ll do it. i try to be silly sometimes!!! my humor does tend to lean into teasing or absurdist a lot of the time though. i speak rather Hyperbolically in general and some people just find that funny so ya know i’m doing SOMETHING. i like, LIKE making people laugh it’s nice.
i’m mixing zodiac and personality shit rn but idk i’m sorta spiritual like that. i was raised by a witch or whatever so i was taught to believe in the zodiac, in the tarots, in the universe etc etc. anyway my Sun sign is Taurus, my moon is Capricorn and my Rising is Aquarius. and my Chinese zodiac is the Dog! which is sorta Ironic because i was gonna say zodiac wise that’s Earth, Earth and Air which i think applies to me well since i have trouble keeping connections i drift away easily but when i’m attached i think im as loyal as dog. i saw someone else mention hogwarts houses but i’m a hufflepuff! a lot of people say i also have ravenclaw traits soooo whatever. i try to see the complexities and good in the people i interact with but truly that’s usually only the people i’m close to long enough. i would say i’m very physically affectionate but only with people i trust. like i said i’m GHOSTY i don’t have a lot of close connections and even with the people i’m close to i hesitate to ask for or receive physical affection but the people i do it’s like :] nice.
my favorite character in Hetalia is hard i’m sorta indecisive. when i was young (because i got into hetalia YOUNG) it was definitely Canada i was obsessed with that i wanted to go to canada because of him i wanted to BE Canadian. but as i’ve grown i’ve become very fond of the other background countries? Canada still has a place in my heart but i really adore Switzerland and liechtenstein. Big brother and little sister relationships really fuck me up and me and Switzerland are the same type of cheep. what growing up poor can do to a mf 😔. also like Switzerland have very complex feelings about Austria and his stupid pretty face. moving on. i think Poland is STUPID and SILLY and PRETTY and i love him and lithuania. Lithuania is a sweet heart and i think he deserves the world. very fond of the nordics i think they’re all funny. i also think it’s a cute family dynamic and any good family dynamic can RUIN ME. they’re like brothers bro…. i think i had a crush on iceland when i was in middle school which is very stereotypical for me tbh. me and france are sworn enemies if i see that man on the street we will box immediately. or i’ll give him a stern talking to. whichever comes first.
i think that’s all? aaaa i hope this isn’t too much i know this is a lot. i hope you have a good day/night! thanks for doing stuff like this in general tbh i know it can get really overwhelming especially with people like me lol

After going through the information presented, I believe that you best match with Veneziano or North Italy!
Oh my, Veneziano loves you immediately! Your style is so you and he finds himself ‘oohing’ and ‘aahing’ at how bold and creative your choices are concerning your hair. He loves how the colors complement your overall coloring and he appreciates that it’s a style that speaks to your inner personality. Can you give him some tips on what colors he should dye his hair? He was thinking blond? Oohhh, wait! Perhaps he would like to match with you?
An artist as well! Oh my, he has truly hit the jackpot hasn’t he? He’ll definitely pester you for your art so that he can give you tips—he really wants you to improve! Plus, he understands what it means to use art as a means to perceive and process around you. Fun fact, he uses art as a coping mechanism as well, but he also uses art as a way to make sense of his surroundings and to sort through his feelings. If you have the time, he would definitely like to take you out to the park, the heart of the city, or into the countryside so that the both of you can draw to your heart’s content. He’ll even pack a picnic basket!
And speaking of packing picnic baskets, with Veneziano you won’t even need to worry about cooking! He has centuries of experience when it comes to cooking and what’s even better is that he’s the personification of Italia himself! Where else are you going to get the world’s best cuisine? If you want to expand your boundaries concerning cooking, Veneziano is more than willing to teach you. He’s a good teacher, if a little scatterbrained, but after a while, you should definitely see improvement in your culinary skills. Who knows, maybe you could surprise him with a romantic dinner devised of your own making.
As for cleaning, don’t worry about that as well! Veneziano was a servant for a lot of his history; he knows how to keep his house neat and tidy. Again, he’ll give you tips on how to maintain cleanliness. Between the two of you, the house will become near spotless!
Don’t worry about bouncing between interests too fast. Unlike what most of his colleagues says, Veneziano actually has a sharp mind and he’s willing to go along with your thought processes. You have ADHD? He’ll help ground you and remind you of your priorities and soothe you if your anxiety ever gets too much. He has elements of his own mental pathologies as well, but what’s important is that he knows how to manage them. If you consent, he’ll make sure to provide you with as much love and affection as possible while also providing the stability you need.
He also doesn’t mind if it takes a while for you to warm up to him. He’s friends with Germany and that took a while before those two became friends! It’s a challenge he’s willing to wait out as he slowly coaxes you with sweet smiles and treats that he bakes himself.
Please please please talk his ears off about anything and everything. He loves watching when people become passionate about something that they are so clearly enamored with. The way your eyes shine, how you never seem to run out of words to say… He cherishes all those things that make you who you are. Don’t be shy, he’s not bored! He’s just staring at you as if you are a dream and he doesn’t want to wake up.
As for your nature to take control and lead? That’s fine be Veneziano! He’s pretty laid back and taking orders was what he was doing a lot in modern history anyway. However, he’ll tell you to relax and let him handle some things. He won’t try to overstep his boundaries, but he has eyes and he can be astute at times. If he sees that you are struggling or if you are falling apart, he’ll tell you to slow down. Rome wasn’t built in a day after all, so take a seat and eat this pasta he made for you!
As long as the both of you communicate your needs and are willing to compromise, then you should have a happy relationship.

~~~~~~~  🌲 Slenderman does not usually listen to music. When he feels really down, he'll listen to opera though. Opera is, in some ways, similar to traditional eirfindur "music". It's certainly not the same (no music made by humans could compare to the mysterious music of the eirfindur), but it does remind him of his people.
🧣 Liu listens to classical music. It's soothing to him. Sully on the other hand, listens to a lot of aggressive rap. They are also both very fond of jazz.
🔪 Jeff is a fan of punk, rock, and metal. Just any song that you can scream along to and it gets your heart pumping.
🎮 BEN listens to everything and anything. He has unlimited access to the Internet, and he has taken full advantage of it. He has listened to almost every song you can think of at least once.
🍬 LJ also loves listening to any kind of music. He has a soft spot for classical music, but he also just likes to try new things and listen to stuff that he hasn’t heard before. Also, he does like the “carnival pop” sound, he thinks it’s really cool!
🧵 Puppeteer likes classical because he thinks it sounds elegant and peaceful.
🎨 Bloody Painter likes classical music when he needs to concentrate on his art, and he likes indie music when he needs inspiration for different pieces. Indie songs tend to help him gain inspiration.
⏰ Clockwork listens to rock, rap, and pop because she only enjoys music that makes her feel all riled up inside. She believes that if a song doesn’t hype you up, then it’s not a song worth listening to.
🎭 Masky loves rock because it makes him feel all happy inside, and he enjoys pop music even if he denies it.
🖤 Jane loves to listen to anything with a happy, upbeat tune or anything that’s gay :)  King Princess, Girl In Red, Hayley Kiyoko, etc.
❓Hoodie enjoys jazz because it makes him feel weirdly at home. And like all his problems could just melt away. It’s a really good feeling :)
💄 Nina loves anything that’s popular. She loves happy songs, and she does listen to K-Pop, although she keeps that a secret from other members of the mansion.
🤍 EJ appreciates pretty much everything, because he relies on his hearing for so much to make up for his eyesight. With such incredible hearing, he finds himself really getting into music.
🪓 Toby loves listening to music that makes him feel happy and forget his problems. He also loves good dancing music (even though he’s not a good dancer, he still enjoys dancing if he’s alone and he feels happy). Toby also listens to Mother Mother, and he relates to it a lot...
Naturally quite light due to his element EYES: Dark green  HEALTH: Generally good, has a good immune system and good fitness (I hc health is also positively influenced by being a Dragon). Most health issues are injuries rather than illnesses MEDICATION: None. TEMPERAMENT: Generally fairly laidback, always playful and with a good sense of humour, sometimes struggles to take things too seriously. Free and changeable as the wind he commands. Usually in fairly good spirits, but quick to become sarcastic. Can get very competitive depending on the situation. Can become something of a workaholic and can be very determined under certain situations. Can get moody and tends to remove himself from people’s company when this is the case.
FAMILY!
MISC!
WRITES LOVE POETRY?: Not at all, he’s not a poetry fan and he himself isn’t particularly poetic or traditionally romantic CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY?: yeah, but not to excess. he tries to milk it and make the most of it and will be like ‘um you can’t be mean to me, it’s my birthday’ for the entire WEEK of his birthday, but he doesn’t actually expect much. he’s from a poor family with a LOT of kids after all, so when people make a real big deal out of it and get him presents, he’s surprised but delighted FAVOURITE COLOUR?: changes pretty often, he doesn’t get attached. but he likes orange (warm orange, not like neon orange), green and red SLEEPS?: either for too long or not long enough, rarely an actual GOOD amount. he has to get up early for training and stuff, and he’s usually not too bad at falling asleep (because he’s often exhausted by the time night rolls around), but when he becomes leader, his sleep declines a little because his head is full with all the stuff he has to think about and the worries and responsibilities and stuff HAS PLUSHIES?: He has Ninja Fred, a teddy bear from his childhood that he’s kept with him even into adulthood as a ‘good luck charm’ (it’s more sentimental than that, but shhh no telling) MUSIC TASTE?: Very eclectic and changes as he grows up. He goes from mostly rap/hip hip (because it was ‘cool’), to mostly pop punk, rock and indie. But it’s very varied generally READS?: scrolls mostly (in mainverse) but he does actually like reading for pleasure too when he has the time and energy. in that case, it’s mostly fiction (such as adventure, thrillers, crime etc) FONDEST CHILDHOOD MEMORY: pretty much anything with his dad, but maybe when his dad started teaching him how to surf. manoel was very determined and encouraging and rai wanted to be just like him. they had so much fun together - rai tries not to think about it too often, because it makes him happy but then that joy runs cold, and he becomes very sad instead SINGS IN SHOWER?: Absolutely! every day, sometimes twice a day. he’ll sing/hum/whistle whatever is in his head
music: weekly roundup (our favorite submissions of the week)
Le Saiint - Baptized in the Flames
From the opening note, I really loved the pacing of this track. It lures you in with vocals that are front-and-center with an almost staccato spin but when the chorus drops, the instrumentals swell and the whole thing blends harmoniously together. Overall, this is a really easygoing track with a cool rhythm. Add this to your chill indie rock playlists.
Sweet Nobody - Five Star Diary
This track opens with an attention-grabbing guitar riff and drops you immediately into cool-girl vocals. The instrumentals are laid-back but laced with rock undertones. Think 90s female empowerment soundtrack (10 Things I Hate About You, anyone?) The melody here is catchy and cool without being overly angsty or grungy, the vocals are soft and sweet. This whole track oozes surf rock confidence.
Black Box - Over It
This song wastes no time getting into classic indie rock instrumentals. The real shining moment though, is the vocalizations in the chorus. They add a flair and an incredibly catchy moment to a song that’s already quite strong overall. Add this to playlists that feature bands like Cage the Elephant, Vampire Weekend, Arctic Monkeys, etc.
Snowtown - Make Me Stay
This is one of those songs that stops you in your tracks. With tortuously slow instrumentals and distorted, growling vocals, this song sets the tone so effectively from the start. The opening lyric grabbed my attention immediately and never let me go after that. It’s been a long, incredibly hard year for a lot of people. For those of us that struggle with mental health in a normal year, this song says all of the things we go through on a daily basis. The lyrics are haunting, the vocals are emotional and honest. This song is a must-listen.
Speed Control - Headlines There’s something about an inelegant vocal, one that you’d expect to hear at some sweaty basement show. The vocals on this song immediately drew me in, and I’ll admit that I spent several listen-throughs trying to figure out who it sounded like. Ultimately, it’s a mix of Seaway with just a bit of Less Than Jake (specifically in “The Rest of My Life”. This is incredibly nitpicky, I know.). This feels like a pop punk song, just with less aggression and not quite enough hating your hometown. With a few shouted lyrics, a fair dose of refrain, and some kickass guitars, this has a ton of potential to join my heavy rotation.
Titans - July (Noah Cyrus Cover)
To wrap up this week’s playlist, I present to you a shocking first: I’ve never accepted a cover before. I tend to prefer original material for these roundups, but when this particular song came through I knew I couldn’t turn it down. I’m wholeheartedly obsessed with the original version of this song, so I was intensely curious about what it would sound like as a hardcore song. Listen to this right this second. The clean vocals keep the pleading nature of the original bluesy mood but take on an edgier, much faster desperation with this delivery. The screams are perfectly placed, the pace is wonderful. And don’t forget to stick around for the breakdown.
Listen to all of these songs on our playlist!
hey guys! I’m kind of in the mood for some music recs, so if anybody has some songs or artists that you really wish people would listen to throw them at me and I’ll try to check them out! I like lots of things, indie and popular, in almost any genre. I’m not typically into country (at least mainstream, tractors-and-whiskey country) but that’s about it.
I will say that I tend to like sub-genre pop (like electro or synthpop, dreampop, etc), dark and broody stuff (like Billie Eilish, Broods, Daughter), and rock/punk, but I’m always trying to branch out. Any language is cool, too! Just please try to suggest things I could find on Spotify or YouTube. If you give me specific song suggestions I’m more likely to listen to it sooner (just give me a warning if there’s any content in your suggestions that most people would consider triggering, esp related to depression). And if you want an idea of what I already like or just want to follow me or smth, my spotify is e.g.raynor. If you do follow me I’ll probably follow back and check out your public playlists if you have any!
thanks!
do you have any headcanons for cg characters’ taste in music?
I do!!! I’ll stick to the core four, if that’s okay!
kallen
primarily rock of any era, but she’ll listen to anything–the radio was on a lot during her youth, both at home and elsewhere, so she’s at least aware of modern pop, even if a good chunk of it doesn’t do much for her.
is definitely into indie and alternative stuff–the Mountain Goats, Mitski, the Decemberists, F+TM, etc.
likes classic and prog rock. The longer and weirder it is, the more she likes it. King Crimson, Peter Gabriel and Genesis, Rush, and so on. Also punk and grunge.
Whitney Houston. Kate Bush. Enough said.
likes classic soul and R&B.
similarly, appreciates the power of a good throwback.
very picky with the metal she likes, but definitely the one of the core four who’s most into it.
likes folk and old-school/vintage country. Can sing every verse of Tam Lin from memory. Everyone is shocked.
secretly listens to rap and hip-hop. Can legit spit. Everyone is shocked.
Song Guaranteed to Make Her Get Turnt™: “Hey Ya!” by Outkast
suzaku
Britannia’s Top 40, because that’s what they play around the base.
knows a lot of Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Guns n’ Roses songs, but doesn’t necessarily enjoy them? He thinks?
likes techno and EDM–anything with a good beat to get his heart rate up and his blood pumping. Sometimes, yes, even dubstep.
80′s music!!! How very.
has a fondness for the traditional Japanese songs of his childhood, but doesn’t have much opportunity to listen to or play them anymore.
likes some rap, some hip-hop. Limited primarily to what’s playing on the radio, so he gets the same songs over and over again.
enjoys reggae rock and ska–bands like No Doubt and Sublime. The vibe is generally very chill which, because he’s a Stressed Out Dude, he appreciates.
Song Guaranteed to Make Him Get Turnt™: “Africa” by Toto
lelouch
mostly enjoys classical, or at the very least instrumental. He finds that lyrics are distracting when he’s trying to get Plotting™ done.
likes vintage music. Old jazz, big band, he can dig it.
complete and utter distaste for auto-tune. Ergo, not big on most modern pop. Not super into rap or hip-hop, but can deal if the flow is good and the subject matter topical.
can tolerate most classic rock, folk and country.
if not engaged in Serious Thinking Mode, will usually just listen to whoever’s music (usually Kallen’s) is playing.
enjoys swing music, 1950′s doo-wop, mostly because Nunnally enjoys it even if she can’t dance along.
thought there was no good modern instrumental music until Kallen introduced him to Explosions in the Sky.
Song Guaranteed to Make Him Get Turnt™:“(What a) Wonderful World” by Sam Cooke. Alternatively, “the Weight” by the Band
c.c.
anything. Will listen to literally anything. Does NOT like any country music made after… 1980 or so, however.
musical tastes tend most closely align with Kallen and Lelouch’s, although she isn’t adverse to letting Suzaku put Darude’s “Sandstorm” on repeat in the car.
has a fondness for folk, the older and more historic the better. She likes to see how the songs have changed over time.
shares her love of Kate Bush with Kallen.
the Child ballads! Murder ballads! Loves to tell you how the water in Ballad 923-C is actually representational of a miscarriage, or whatever.
radio is often on. Sometimes she doesn’t like the silence.
Song Guaranteed to Make Her Get Turnt™: “Don’t Fear the Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult, if only for the irony.
Feel free to give me your input! If you have something you want to add, I’m all ears!
Do you live with your biological mother?
No. I moved out when I was 17.
Have you ever tried peanut butter and bananas together?
I have. It was a bit meh. I’m not a huge fan of bananas or peanut butter. Banana and nutella is a great combo though.
What kind of music do you tend to like?
It goes in waves, but I’ve been into alternative music in different forms since I was 15. Started out with emo music, pop punk and metalcore and then I went over to punk and hardcore. I also like rap and indie pop or indie rock. Currently though, I’ve been listening to edgy pop by female artists ha, like carolesdaughter and Siiickbrain.
Do you enjoy listening to Eminem?
No. I find him a bit cheesy. I liked Eminem when I was like 12. I can see why he’s talented but I don’t know... Something about him is lame.
What color are the sheets on your bed?
White. I will only ever have white sheets. I find dark ones a bit off. I don’t now why. I want my bedding to feel crisp and fresh.
Are you a member on Bzoink?
No.
Do you believe in sex before marriage?
Yeah. You have to test out the car before you buy it, as they say. Sounds reasonable to me.
When was the last time you went on a shopping trip with just your mom?
We did that recently when I bought my couch for my balcony. She is pretty much always involved when I have to buy some sort of furniture since I don’t drive. I enjoy our shopping trips. We usually stop by some café or lunch spot as a part of it.
Do you agree that Wal-Mart is the best?
I’ve never been to one, but Wal-Mart has a dodgy reputation, right? Like it’s trashy.
Do you know anyone who married their high school sweetheart?
I have two residents on my unit who are still married to their spouses that they met when they were teenagers. One of our ladies in particular gets visits from her husband every day at 2 PM. It is really sweet. She has far gone Alzheimers so she is unable to walk, non-speaking and has to be spoon fed, so he comes for a fika and sits with her and helps her eat everyday and watches TV and talks to her. I think that is so powerful. A lot of our residents stops having visits when their illnesses progress, probably because it is too hard for their loved ones to see them in the state that they are in, but some stick it out and it is amazing to see.
Orange or apple juice?
Orange. Apple juice looks like urine samples to me. It’s also not as good.
Have you ever seen anyone die?
Once. I’ve been on death watch countless of times, but I’ve only been there during the last breath once. That was really intense. I was counting her breathing frequency and the gap became longer and longer and then there was a sigh and she was dead. I held her hand while she died. I actually cried afterwards. Being on death watch is actually one of my favourite tasks, weirdly enough. There is something beautiful in it. I am passionate about making the actively dying phase as comfortable for the person as possible. That involves so much more than medications and mobilizing and oral care. It also involves activity. Playing music the person enjoys, reading something for them, giving a hand massage etc. I love that. Everyone deserves a comfortable ending.
Is there anything really interesting in your family history?
No. Not that I know of. It’s all Swedish farmers from the same area.
What things are you interested in that you study or read about on your own?
I go through phases where I hyper fixate on subjects. It can be feminist theory, neurology, pharmacology, cults, politics...
Have you ever given or received a lap dance?
Neither. The idea of both makes me cringe.
Would you ever creep into the subway tunnels to go exploring?
No thank you, that sounds dangerous and creepy.
Would you rather be a world political leader or a rock star?
Rock star. Definitely. I wish I had musical talent.
Have you ever given someone a love letter that you wrote?
No.
Have you ever sent someone a surprise through the mail?
Yes. Ellen and I have done that. You gotta make your long distance friendship as fun as possible.
Of all animated movies, which is the best one you’ve ever seen?
Hm. I don’t know. Not a genre that I enjoy that much.
What are the best bands or songs to listen to while driving?
I don’t drive.
What do you think is the most amazing thing that anyone has ever accomplished?
There’s so many things. I can’t pick one. Thinking of the medical advancements that have happened throughout the years.
Do you believe the stories about planes, boats and people mysteriously disappearing into the Bermuda Triangle?
I’m not very into conspiracy theories. I find that kinda lame.
What is the happiest way you can start your day?
By sleeping in. I hate getting up early.
What changes are you afraid of?
I’m scared of the possibility that the world will get more and more taken over by right wing politics. And if I’m allowed to be superficial, getting wrinkles and ageing.
Have you ever wanted to be an actor/tress?
No.
What is your biggest goal for this year?
My goal has been to finish my education and that is pretty much accomplished!
Where do you want to be in 5 years?
I don’t know. I don’t think that far ahead. Makes me anxious.
Which do you remember the longest: what other people say, what other people do or how other people make you feel?
Hm. Probably what other people say cause then I start analyzing it.
What are the key ingredients to having a good relationship?
I’m not the right person to ask since I’ve never been in a committed relationship, but I’d imagine that acceptance, Independence and respect are important factors. But then again, don’t ask me. I just now that I get really annoyed at clingy people.
What 3 things do you want to do before you die?
I don’t know. I don’t have a bucket list. I prefer to live in the moment.
What three things would you want to die to avoid doing?
Hm. Becoming homeless maybe? Sounds like a terrible situation to be in. I’m also super scared of being the victim of fraud. I don’t know about the third thing. Getting a serious illness?
What is your favorite oldie/classic rock song?
Bohemian Rhapsody, probably. I watched the movie with that name recently and it was so good. I was very moved by it. I’m not even a Queen fan. Thinking of the AIDS epidemic makes me feel some type of way.
If you were traveling to another continent would you rather fly or take a boat?
Fly. Boats are slow.
If you could meet any person in the world who is dead who would you want it to be?
Maybe my paternal grandmother. She died when I was four and from the things my dad has told me about her, there are things I’d wanna ask her. I’ve got a feeling that she passed mental illness onto me. Also, Kurt Cobain.
What if you could meet anyone who is alive?
God, I don’t know. Can’t think of anyone.
What is your favorite thing to do outside?
I’m not an outdoorsy person. Though I like going on walks if I’m with someone else. Walking alone makes me bored, even if I’m listening to music or a podcast or something.
Have you ever been to a psychic/tarot reader?
No. I kinda want to, just because. I don’t believe in it though.
What is the kindest thing you have ever done?
I don’t know. I see myself as a pretty kind person, but I don’t know the kindest thing I’ve done would be. I’ve been there for people through hardships and I would consider myself a loyal person.
What holiday should exist but doesn’t?
I don’t really care that much about the already existing holidays so I don’t know.
What holiday shouldn’t exist but does?
Ooo, I actually know an answer to this. Since getting to know Ellen, I’ve found out about the weird holiday of Sinterklaas. They celebrate it in Belgium and the Netherlands. They celebrate a saint called St. Nikolaus so people gather around someone in a weird santa looking suit but the weirdest thing is that St. Nikolaus has these helpers called Zwarte Piet who are black?? The name translates to Black Peter. So people put on blackface and dress up as little elves on this holiday. Considering Belgium’s history of colonization, this gives off some sketchy vibes. The whole thing is weird.
Where is the most fun place you have EVER been?
Hm. London was a fun and vibrant city to be in. As was NYC, even though it was also pretty dark since how obvious the issue of drug abuse and homelessness was. I have fond memories of going to our local play land when I was a kid too, even though those places seem hellish now. Would rather get shit in my face than go to a play land.
What is the one thing that you love to do so much that you would make sacrifices to be able to do it?
I don’t know. I don’t have any huge hobbies that I love.
If you had to choose would you live on the equator or at the North Pole
On the equator. The North Pole doesn’t seem very exciting. I don’t like extreme cold or extreme heat, but the equator feels like it has more life to it. Like there’s actual societies there. I know that this question was intended for me to express an opinion on whether I prefer heat over cold but I seem to have wandered away from that.
What cartoon would you like to be a character in?
No idea.
Name one thing that turns your stomach:
Mucus. I’m fine with everything. Diarrhoea, blood, urine, vomit, doesn’t phase me, but there’s something about when someone is coughing up or spitting out mucus that gets to me. When it comes to bodily fluids, I’ve experienced cleaning up faeces from someone who had a severe internal bleeding. That actually made me throw up. A situation like that isn’t a common occurrence though. Thank god.
Get anything good in the mail recently?
I got a magazine from the church today, if you consider that good. God, I need to stop putting off leaving the church. I saw my church taxes on my tax return and it made me gag.
What’s the most eccentric thing you have ever worn?
I had these yellow checker pants with chains and stuff hanging from them. That’s something. I also used to wear black jeans with a shit ton of rips in them. Like rips so thing that they barely held together, back in my emo days. I don’t know if that’s eccentric though. Eccentric makes me think of colours and fabrics and textures.
If you could pick one food that you could eat all you wanted but it would have no effect on how much you weigh, what food would it be?
I’m not that into super greasy foods like pizza and burgers, so I don’t know? Ice cream? Baked goods?
What are your parents interested in?
My dad is super into some very particular things. Like he goes all in. He has collected so many things related to Liverpool. Like is a huge Liverpool flag hanging on my family’s house. His office is covered. He also has been obsessed with family research for a few years now. He is also very into rockabilly music. My mom is interested in handicrafts. She weaves, she sews, she knits, she embroiders and sells these things at a local handicrafts boutique in my hometown. She also bakes a lot and makes juices and jams from things she grows in their garden, like apples, red currants, strawberries, raspberries and rhubarb. She also bakes traditional flatbread and sells that too. That’s a tradition in my mom’s side of the family. My mom, my grandmother and my great aunt Ulla who is 90 I think frequently bake together, even though my mom does most of it.
When do you feel your life energy the strongest?
I don’t know. I’m not exactly the person you’d think of when you say the word life energy.
You are spending the night alone in the woods and may bring only 3 items with you. What do you bring?
That sounds horrifying. I’d bring my phone, a tent and some food, I guess?
Did The Blair Witch Project scare you?
Not really. I found it underwhelming.
Are you a fan of any comic books?
No.
What are your greatest sources for wisdom?
Reading. Everyone should read. It is so enriching.
When you were little, where did your parents tell you babies come from?
My mum told me babies came from the ass.<< HAHA. My parents never talked about that with me. My mom is too prude and I think that’s traditionally a mom subject to bring up.
What’s the best kind of movie to see on a date?
I feel like movie dates are so awkward. Like sitting there in silence, awkward advances and then that typical “So what did you think of the movie?” afterwards. No thank you.
When you see a stranger on the street does your first reaction lean towards thinking of this person as a potential friend or as a potential threat?
At night, I’m inclined to thinking of random men as threats.
What do you really want to buy?
A TV bench. I don’t have one right now and it looks so stupid.
Do you think it’s odd that Americans have freedom of religion and yet call themselves “one nation under god?”
Not really? The expression one nation under god doesn’t mean that the country would exclude other religions, though I do think that the importance of Christianity in America has a destructive effect on the people living there when it comes to women’s rights and lgbtq+ rights for example. But the expression itself isn’t that odd.
Do you have a condom in your room?
No.
Can you pick things up with your toes?
Maybe? I’ve never tried.
Where did you buy the shirt you’re wearing now?
It was a gift from Ellen.
Who were you last in a car with?
I think it was my mom, but I’m not sure.
Are you in a good mood right now?
I’m okay.
Do you know what you want to be when you grow up?
I am happy with my current profession, but I have ideas of how I want to continue building my career in the future.
Who was the last person you cut out of your life intentionally?
My bully.
Do you like watching scary movies?
I do, but there has to be quality to them.
Do you know how to fish?
No. Did it a few times with my dad when I was a child but I found it to be gross and boring.
Have you ever been given a rose?
Yes. Never in a romantic sense, but at confirmation and when I graduated high school.
Do you eat live fish?
?? No?
Besides BTS what are other groups or artists do you admins listen to?
I listen to a lot of different music so can’t really categorize in one thing. Some of my other favourites in K-pop are: Red Velvet, NCT, Monsta X & EXO. Idk if you are like into indieish music, SALES have really good music, and underrated tbh. Oh Wonder is great too! Lofi hip hop music beats to relax to and classical music is my go to when idk what I want to listen to ^^ - ambi ♥
I’m a HUGE carat, so these 👇🏼☝🏼 guys will probably tell you I never shut up about Seventeen. I also love Stray Kids, Dreamcatcher, Red Velvet and Noir. I also listen to K R&B and K HipHop artists like DEAN, Saay, Loco, and DPR Live. As for non-Korean music: Tame Impala, the Gorillaz and Daft Punk. -🥀
Oh boy, there’s so many. I listen to music in not only English and Korean but in French, German, Italian, [my mother language], Mandarin, Japanese, and sometimes Thai. For French I love Stromae, MIKA, Alizee, Serge Gainsbourg, Dalida, Francois Hardy, France Gall, Edith Piaf, and Jacques Brel. For German, definitely Rammstein. Italian, I love Dalida and Mina. For Japanese, I love all the well-known visual kei bands/artists like X-Japan, L’arc En Ciel, The Gazette, Miyavi, etc etc. I also like J-rock artists in general like One Ok Rock and Gackt. For J-pop, Perfume is my go-to and Arashi, Hey!Say!Jump, KAT-TUN, and AKB48 has some tracks that slap. For Mandarin, I like classic pop bops like Fahrenheit, A-Mei, Jolin Tsai, and Show Lo. For K-pop, I’ve been a fan since 4th grade so I listen to all of the 2nd generation artists. For this generation, BTS are the only ones I truly follow but I love the indie scene with artists like Loveholic, Hyukoh, Roller Coaster, and 10cm. For K-R&B, DEAN, Punchnello, and RadMuseum all the way - 🐰
Ok so mostly I listen to kpop atm. The songs I listen to in English tend to be mainstream stuff. Bts are my faves but there are some others I also listen to. For boy groups, EXO, Monsta X, Stray Kids, Got7 mostly. Then Twice, G-Idle, Red Velvet, Sunmi, Taeyeon, IU. There are a few oddball songs I like but that’s about it. Oh and Panic at the disco! -🐯
I used to listen to a lot of Japanese music and OST that were usually composed by Japanese musicians. But, now I typically listen to KPOP. I mostly listen to BTS, and if not I’ll listen to MAMAMOO, Twice, HUTAZONE from BTOB, Ariana Grande, Sunmi, TXT, and Izone’s new album. I don’t stan anyone else besides BTS so I guess I’m a casual listener for all the other groups :) -🎉
Hmmm, besides BTS, I listen to a lot of other groups but I don’t stan any other ones . . . well, besides ITZY. My favorite english artists are Chase Atlantic and Doja cat, but I also listen to a ton of music from like, 1960 onwards. -
👀
uhhhhmmm higher brothers, joji, billie eilish. the beatles, the smiths, post malone, rich brian, seventeen, monsta x, amine, ariana grande, the 1975, shinee, dean, khalid, conan gray, sf9, dominic fike, f(x), and that's all I can think of atm =) -⛓
#4 for Lanzo, 8 for Q, 16 for Niner, 18 for Nate, 19 for Connie, 25 for Ian, 35 for Susanna, 36 for Kira, 38 for Amanda, 45 for Darcy, and 50 for Lauren; if you please, and thank you! :)
I hope you don’t mind, but since two of these questions were already answered, i’ve swapped them with different ones.
4. Lanzo's favorite season?
Answered here.
Alternate question, what languages does he speak?
Lanzo’s native language is medieval German. He learned Latin in his youth, picked up French when he moved to France, and more than a few words of other European languages in the periods in-between leaving his manor in Germany and moving to France, and leaving France and moving to the United States.
There have been enough centuries between those days and now that he’d need to pause to think if asked for a word or phrase in one of those languages, but once he gets into the swing of it, he’s as fluent in French and German as he is in English. He almost never speaks either of them, but on occasion he’ll pick up a book or watch an undubbed foreign film in its original language.
8. What is Q's clothing style?
Jacket, t-shirt, jeans, tennis shoes. That’s pretty much it.
He wears the same jacket, and all of his t-shirts are band name t-shirts, whether or not he’s listened to or even heard of the band in question. A notable percentage of the bands are foreign, courtesy of his rich cousin who sometimes struggles with the concept that other people don’t import their food/clothes/furniture/etc. from other countries at a whim.
16. Niner's favorite comfort food?
Cheese. She won’t touch American cheese (and who can blame her), but any other kind of cheese, in any form, especially if it’s hot. If she’s in a particularly bad mood, she’s been known to spread cheese on a baking sheet and heat it in the oven until it starts melting.
18. Nate's music taste?
I can kind of feel the answer here, but finding the accurate terms is difficult.
Pop rock/punk -- Panic! At the Disco, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Blink-182, Owl City, bands like that. Some synth, some electric, but not the full-blown artificial sound of techno or electronica. His favorite songs tend to be less loud and angry, and more sad and emotional.
He visits a lot of music sites to find new indie groups, too, mostly to find artists with more ingenuity or talent than tend to end up on Billboard’s Top 40. Not that he doesn’t like the sound of a good acoustic guitar well-played, but it means more intellectually than emotionally.
19. Is there a story behind Connie's name/meaning?
His full name is Conrí Rhys Lowell. Conrí is Irish, meaning “wolf king”. Rhys is Welsh, “enthusiasm”. Lowell is English, adapted from a French nickname meaning “wolf”.
It’s rare for a werewolf family to have a last name that doesn’t connect back to wolves somehow, or at least apply to wolves (Gray, Hunter, etc.). In most cases, giving your child a first or middle name that also refers to wolves or dogs is seen as poor taste, certainly leaving the poor kid open to lots of teasing. But clan leaders like Connie’s parents tend to use many of the same names that their families have been using for generations, some of which can be a bit on the nose. In Connie’s case, his parents were looking for old family names connected with royalty and leadership for their last litter, and liked the sound of Conrí. The “wolf” part was a bit inconvenient, like your child having a similar name to someone infamous or their initials forming something stupid, but not bad enough to put them off the name.
25. Does Ian have any allergies?
He’s not allergic to any animals, but that’s the only exception. Technically he’s not allergic to food either (‘intolerant’ is the better term), but his stomach doesn’t like fish or dairy, though he still eats the latter. But whatever the season, something in Nature seems to be gunning for him. Fall is the worst -- there are days he walks around so stuffed up he can’t taste or smell anything.
35. Does Susanna like musicals?
Nope. Partly because Kira loves musicals, and as an Official Annoying Younger Sibling™, Susanna feels obligated to dislike them, but also because they’re so unrealistic. Not because of the singing, but the plots of some musicals just seem to go from one incredibly unlikely situation to another with hardly anything connecting them. There’s also this tendency for characters to sing about stuff instead of doing something about it.
36. Does Kira like marmite?
I’ve never had marmite, so i can’t comment on my characters’ opinions of it.
38. Does Amanda believe in the supernatural?
In her junior and senior years of high school, Amanda was looking to develop her investigative skills and also for ways to defy her overly strict mother -- staying out past curfew, hanging out in the more dangerous parts of town, and trespassing on private property was a way to do both. (Incidentally, this is when she interviewed the drug kingpin mentioned here.) She had no particular interest in the supernatural, but some of her friends were believers, and as a thrill-seeking teenager with an underdeveloped ability to make good judgement calls, more than a few of the things she investigated were supposed hauntings, ghost sightings, aliens, etc.
She never saw anything explicitly supernatural, but some of the places had an atmosphere she couldn’t shake, and more than once there were odd coincidences or unlikely occurrences. By the time she moved on to college, Amanda was not a believer, but less of a skeptic than she had been.
45. Does Darcy consider himself popular?
No, especially not after moving.
He was reasonably well-known and well-liked back at his old elementary school, where he’d spent enough time around the same people that he felt comfortable with them. He still wouldn’t have said he was popular, but he did have a reputation as one of the smartest kids in school.
50. Is Lauren good at remembering significant dates? Anniversaries, birthdays, etc.?
Answered here.
Alternate question, what is her favorite thing to do after a breakup?
Roller-skating.
The first time she had a break-up, she was in high school. Looking back, the relationship had been a bad idea to begin with -- they were both fifteen, he was new in town and to the school, she had even less grip on her temper than she would as an adult, about all they had in common was attending the same church and siblings on the same sports team -- and it had ended very badly, with a lot of harsh words on both sides. Though Lauren refused to admit it, a lot of what her ex-boyfriend had said about her hurt her deeply, and had her doubting her ability to have friends, let alone find romantic love someday.
One of her friends was having her birthday party at a local roller rink, and Ian half-convinced, half-pushed her into attending with him. It was a small, low-key group, and they were all very happy she came, and the one time the ex came up, they all agreed that he was a jerk who didn’t deserve her. It came as close to fixing her emotions as a single event could.
Her second break-up was in college. It didn’t end as badly, but they didn’t stay friends, and in the immediate aftermath Lauren missed a few classes because she refused to leave her dorm. When her roommate reached out in frustration to Ian, he came and dragged her out to the first roller rink he could find.
She complained that he couldn’t expect her to go rollerskating after every single break-up, to which he grinned and asked why not.
Lauren hasn’t had a relationship since that one, but if she ever has to break up with someone again, roller-skating is probably a given.
Thanks for asking!
Artist Name: Jakewolf
Genres: Experimental, Indie, Crunkcore, Screamo, Emo, Punk Rock, Lo-Fi, Pop, Acoustic,
Similar Artists: Balance Problems, Never Shout Never, Scenes And Sirens, Nickasaur!, Dot Dot Curve :), Brokencyde, Cute Is What We Aim For, Brand New,
Bio: Before we begin, I feel like I should note that if if vulgar, NSFW lyrics are not your thing, you might find some of (not all, just some) this musician's material offensive and this might not be the the thing for you. Listener's discretion is advised.
Jakewolf is a proudly diabetic musician (seriously, it was on all of his MySpace pages wtf) who's been around online since around 2008, the golden year of Scene. You might recall him as that one emo-scene boy who catfished you on MySpace back then along with Andy Sixx, Alex Evans, and Cameron Ugh. Well today we're talking about the real Jakewolf, or at least the stuff I could find after doing my best to thoroughly research him.
He's been based in Austin, Texas and Providence, Rhode Island, has been in several bands including Gentlemen, Pillar of Autumn, and The Same Last Name. He's been making music since his teens and started getting notoriety for his relationship with Kiki Kannibal (yes, that Kiki Kannibal) and his Crunkcore music similar to the likes of Dot Dot Curve :) and Brokencyde. I couldn't find a whole lot of personal details on him, his relationships (at least anything I could make 100% sense of), etc. so most of what I have to work with here is his discography, all of which can be found on his Bandcamp.
His early crunkcore era, or as I like to call it, "Fuckin' Ballin' days" isn't anything spectacular but not necessarily skip-able either because of scene nostalgia reasons. Jakewolf made his music completely independently, creating beats with the program GarageBand and tended to rap about the typical crunkcore stuff. Sex, women, sex with women, getting CRUNK. Lot of "bitches," lot of screams, the usual formula. Maybe one of the most unique things about Jakewolf's music was his high voice, which many haters noted sounded like a 12 year old boy. Now I personally was reminded of Dib from Invader Zim, which is like 200 Scene Points. Just picture Dib rapping She's Number 72 and you'll have a spectacular image in your head. You're welcome!
My dumb jokes aside, I actually sorta enjoy this old material from a nostalgic perspective. Ballin' and Gangzta Azz Jamz get me in a hell of a scene mood, but Gangzta Azz Jamz actually marks growth for Jakewolf from his first album. The screams felt less generic and gimmicky and more emotive. If you listen to his single, The D-A-D In "Dead" I don't think you'll avoid crying just a little bit when listening to the gut-wrenching heartbroken and angry vocals set to melancholy beats. Some of his covers are also worth checking out, including both The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot by Brand New but also The Curse of Curves by Cute Is What We Aim For, which he does in his own unique format. The next big step for Jakewolf was a major sidestep project, My Heart Is A Harpsichord.
My Heart Is A Harpsichord is an emotional, expressive masterpiece without bravado, without ego, but full of heart. Originally a side-project separate from "JakewolfCrunk," it was also Jakewolf's first album that was a major deviation in style. There's no hyperlust-lyrics set to poppy GarageBand beats in this. It's just his guitar, softly spoken word, agonizingly desperate sounding clean vocals and occasionally screamed vocals.It's one of the finest indie releases I've ever heard and a major step forward for Jakewolf. That Dirty Album is pretty much a return to his usual crunkcore style but it wouldn't be long before he'd start experimenting with a more experimental and stripped down sound again.
After That Dirty Album came Apple, which was another gorgeously raw and emotive release akin to My Heart Is A Harpsichord. If you're only going to listen to one song from this album, please let it be Most Statues Have Beards, This One Just Has A Gnarly Stache. This album is blessed and that song especially is. Next was Punk, which was rather... well, Punk! True to his roots as a punk rock kid for the first half, the other half is more of a mix of lo-fi hip hop and alternative indie music. The album is deceivingly eclectic because of this. It's a truly fascinating record to listen to.
After that, All I Do Is $cream About Money comes out and is true to his name. It's highly inaccurate to call this another return to crunkcore, because it's a lot less formulaic, party-like and generic and favors a more experimental approach. It's aggressive rather than poppy, chaotic and nauseating in the best possible way.
Sunflower feels unabashedly angry, hateful, and violent. It's eerie and horror inspired (not in a super corny Horrorcore way) and a vast departure from anything else Jakwolf made, recounting violence, murder, expressing racism and sexism, it's clearly from a very villainous character's perspective and was genuinely uncomfortable to listen to, it might not be for everyone. Here's Your New Album is another lo-fi acoustic release with many eclectic influences and experimentation. You might've noticed I've been using that word a lot but there really isn't a better phrase to describe Jakewolf's music. Finally, there is Homes Like Hollow Bones. No sucked dry of marrow, this is the funeral record for Jakewolf's persona, putting the name to rest. This album is eerie, melancholy, and altogether relaxing in only the most unsettling ways possible. The final death throes of Jakewolf are something to hear. Often sensitive and echoey, this album truly feels like an ending, and an ending so far away from where Jakewolf began.
I love progression and experimentation. Jakewolf's music has always been interesting to me because of where he started and where he went. This isn't actually the end of his music career though. He's still making music under ""Jacob", the name" on Bandcamp. He makes alternative/acoustic/indie rock with influences of blues and jazz. If you wanna check him out, definitely do. Whether it's his oldest or his latest efforts, I'm sure he'd be happy to know somebody's listening and enjoying.
happy friday isabelle! i hope your week has been good! sorry i haven't been back sooner--life drama and work 🤦🏽‍♀️ how are you? any fun weekend plans? and some completely unrelated questions: what are your favorite girl groups, if you have any? what, if any non k-pop artists do you enjoy? and lastly, what are some of your favorite movie(s) and tv show(s)? all for scientific reasons of course 😉 - 🍯
hello!!! please don’t apologize, i totally understand haha i don’t usually go on tumblr on the weekends because it’s my only free time so i tend to do other things. i hope everything is ok with you!! i didn’t do much this weekend, just went on a target run yesterday but i was mostly just reading since i’m trying to do that more this year like i said.
i don’t listen to a lot of girl groups but i do really like red velvet! i also think i’m going to start listening to twice soon bc one of my friends really likes them. as for non-kpop artists, i tend to listen to a lot of pop punk stuff haha never grew out of the “phase” i went through in high school. so some of my favorite bands are all time low, fall out boy, with confidence - that kind of genre. but i’ve also been listening to a lot of indie pop, alternative rock, and just pop in general. there aren’t many genres i don’t listen to aside from country and edm lol.
i honestly can’t remember the last time i’ve watched an actual tv show lol i’ve been watching a lot of anime but idk if you watch that? but i’ve been slowly rewatching teen wolf for the nostalgia and i think i’m going to watch the crown on netflix. i started it when it first came out years ago but i haven’t kept up so i wanna get back into it. my taste in movies and tv shows is mostly fantasy, sci-fi, action, and adventure so i like things like harry potter, the marvel movies, etc.
what about you, did you do anything fun this weekend? what songs have you been listening to lately?
