Do you think you could write a little something for your "Angelina I lives" AU where maybe we see one of Angelina I's lessons with Yakko, but AFTER the whole fiasco of when he bit her? To see how they would interact? Love your AU btw <3
Yakko wasn't one to use the word "hate" lightly, but he could say with all the confidence in the world that he hated his grandmother.
At first, he had been willing to give her a shot. After all, she was his grandmother and people were supposed to respect their elders and those they were related to. He had been willing to listen, to take part in her lessons, and see if what she said made a little bit of sense.
However, the moment she hit Wakko, all of his respect for her evaporated.
He lashed out and bit her. He didn’t think when he did it, but afterward, he had no regrets. It was only fair.
Sure, his mother told him he shouldn’t do something like that ever again, but Yakko knew that if she were to try and lay a finger on Wakko ever again, he wouldn’t hesitate. After all, it was his dad who told him an older brother’s job was to protect.
So, naturally, when his mom informed him that he still had to take lessons with his grandmother, he was upset. However, his mother reminded him that none of them really had a say in it and Yakko understood it was just something he was going to have to do, especially when he saw the pain in her eyes. He didn’t want her to worry about him any more than she already did, so he agreed to do it.
However, that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to do this his way.
“Remember what we said: you aren’t going to try anything with your grandmother,” his father practically read his mind.
“Why not?” Yakko sighed dramatically. “She deserves it.”
“Because we care about you very much and don’t want what happened to Wakko to happen to you,” William explained softly.
“So no biting?” He asked.
“Definitely no biting. Her arm is still healing from last time,” Willaim suppressed a chuckle.
“Just... remember, it’s often better to fight with the pen rather than the sword. Much less blood is spilled that way,” William said.
“So... you’re saying it’s never okay to bite?” Yakko asked.
“Not exactly... there are certain situations...” William said cautiously. “It’s just... your grandmother is one who prefers the sword over pen, and it causes people to fear and hate her, and none of the issues actually get solved,” he explained. Yakko nodded.
“But that’s not to say there aren’t moments where your hand is forced... like, for example, if invaders were in the castle and people were attacking. Then it’s okay. Self-defense is perfectly fine,” William said, nodding to himself.
“Or if someone were to attack Wakko?” Yakko suggested. William caught onto what he was doing and smiled a little.
“Or if someone was attacking Wakko, that’d be alright too,” He winked.
“I’m not saying what you did was wrong, Yakko. I’m just saying that there’s a very large risk factor in attacking your grandmother. Whether or not we like it, she’s in charge, and if you attack her she’ll likely attack back. That’s why words are better than getting physical with her, because no matter what, you won’t be ready for those consequences,” William explained, and Yakko finally understood.
“Okay... I won’t bite her,” He said. William gave him a side hug as they finally arrived at Angelina’s study.
“Well... we told her we wanted someone to go in with you at all times, but seeing as she has no respect for us or our wishes, there probably won’t be,” He sighed. “But you’ll be on your best behavior, correct?”
“As best as I can,” he chose his words carefully, still intent on doing it his way.
“Good,” William smiled. “You’ll be alright then, won’t you?”
“Bye dad,” Yakko gave his dad a hug before going in.
“Yakko. There you are,” Angelina looked at him with an unsettling smile.
“Here I am,” He said, not knowing how to respond, and he quickly sat in his usual spot.
“We’ll begin with dining etiquette- What are-?”
“Salad, then dinner on the left. Salad knife, spoon, soup spoon, then oyster fork on the right,” He grinned.
“That wasn’t what-”
“Oh! Hors d’oeuvres, amuse-bouche, soup, appetizer, salad, fish, first main course, palate cleanser, second main course, cheese, dessert, and mignardise,” He listed off. Angelina shot him a look.
“Your impertinence is dually noted, Yakko. Don’t think I don’t see what you’re doing,” She said.
“Whatever do you mean? That was what you were going to ask me, was it not?” He said. Angelina huffed.
“It’s not proper to-”
“-to speak over one’s advisor, yes, but I argue that this is a much more efficient way to get through lessons,” he shrugged.
“I’d argue otherwise,” She said dryly. “Now, how do you-”
“Fan folds are done by folding a large square napkin in half to create a rectangle, creating pleats, then folding in half again so pleats are on top, then folding upper left corner down and tucking behind the center pleat, which creates a triangle, then releasing and letting the pleats fan out,” He said with his eyes closed. “However, I don’t really know why you’d want me to know such things, as napkin folding is traditionally done by servants of the castle and not done by the host.”
“I instructed you to only read until the third chapter,” Angelina pointed out.
“Why? So you’d set me up for failure so I wouldn’t know anything of what you were going to quiz me about?” Yakko smirked.
“You forget who you are speaking to,” Angelina’s eye twitched.
“I’m speaking to the queen, am I not? Or is the real queen somewhere hidden, because that would explain quite a few things-”
“That is enough, Yakko,” she glared, and Yakko wisely pulled back.
“Well, seeing as your already so far ahead, why don’t I quiz you on your knowledge of history instead. What can you tell me about King Winston?”
“He’s dead,” Yakko said.
“No-”
“He’s alive? Why isn’t he in charge then?” Yakko looked around the room.
“No, he’s not-”
“Make up your mind, is the man dead or alive? Goodness,” He shook his head.
The queen growled. “Did your mother put you up to this?” she asked, borderline fuming. Yakko raised an eyebrow and shook his head.
“Don’t lie to me, boy. I’d recognize that smartassery anywhere,” She glared. “If that impertinent child doesn’t stop, I swear-”
“No! I did this all on my own,” He quickly said. “Mom had nothing to do with this.”
“Trying to be the hero now?” She raised an eyebrow, before a little smile grew on her face.
“Perhaps this will get you to pay attention then,” She said, going to one of the shelves and selecting a book. Yakko bit his lip nervously.
“Tell me, Yakko, what do you see here?” she said, showing him an illustration in the book.
“A really tall tower? Why are you showing me that?” He questioned.
“It’s a special room in the castle for those who disobey my orders. However, seeing as you love to play hero, if you don’t stop with the smart talk, I’ll throw your little brother or maybe even your mother in there for a week with no food,” She explained coldly.
“You wouldn't do that to your own daughter,” He said.
“I’ve done far worse than your little head can imagine,” She said, taking the book from his hands.
Yakko felt a wave of empathy for his mother.
“So... are you going to let me talk now? Or are you going to continue with the smart talk and have your brother and mother punished?” She grinned.
“Dad would free them. He’s strong,” Yakko pointed out.
“Oh? So you’re saying I should lock him in the dungeon underground while they remain above? What a splendid idea,” Her eyes shone.
“No!” He protested.
“Then do we have an agreement?” She asked. Yakko bit his lip once more, partially considering just biting her again. If he could just even the playing field just a little bit...
“Whether or not we like it, she’s in charge, and if you attack her she’ll likely attack back,” His father’s words from earlier rang in his mind. He probably should’ve listened so this threat wouldn’t have happened. Yakko sighed.
“Yes,” He said, taking a silent vow to make up for this minor setback in any way he could- to attempt to lower the playing field just a smidge.
“Good,” She smiled. “Let’s return...”
Queen Angelina then began to lecture, and Yakko stopped paying attention. Instead, he thought about what to do next.
Perhaps him and Wakko could set up elaborate pranks around the castle, and watch her go mad trying to figure out who did it.
No, she’d probably know it was the only two children in the castle, and Wakko would be punished.
Maybe he could talk back in a more subtle way.
No, that was him trying to be subtle. It was very clearly not his strength.
Maybe he could try talking her into giving him different tutors?
That wasn’t likely to work, as she made it clear from day one she was to be in charge.
Maybe if he let her choose?
No, she’d never agree to that much.
He was stuck with her. For the moment anyway... perhaps he’d think of something better in time when she cooled down and wasn’t expecting anything.
Yes, that was what he’d do; wait a month or two for her to relax, act like her perfect little prince, and then start back with the quips, but not too strong like today. He’d work on his “i’m not technically wrong” strategy too, it clearly needed work.
Yes, that’d work. Maybe if he wore her out or drove her insane over time she’d leave him and his family alone.
He could only hope anyway.
Yakko sighed, feeling bad for his mom and dad. This whole protector business was hard work, and they’ve been doing it as long as he’s been alive.
That was why he had to do it though, they deserved a break. Yakko could handle the responsibility.
He was going to wear her out so slowly but effectively she would no longer want anything to do with any of them, and then they could all be happy and his parents would never have to worry about her ever again, not if he had anything to say about it.
After all, it’s a big brother’s job to watch over and protect, and that was what Yakko intended to do.

Yakko Warner
(I’ll come back to this post to keep submitting pics of him that I like.)
I figured I’d do this sooner or later and thought to do it as part of animaniweek. Monday through Thursday - Yakko, Wakko, Dot, Pinky and The Brain
I’m gonna explain how I feel about Yakko Warner.
(INHALES)
I didn’t like him.
Let me explain.
So, the only Animaniacs thing I saw as a child was Wakko’s Wish. Maybe a second of a promo? They were in a YouTube poop I saw a couple years later. Few years later, my teacher showed us Wakko’s America and an audio version of Ballad of Magellan. Then two or three years later I watched Animaniacs (mostly just the Warners).
My feelings from Wakko’s Wish came back (everything else I was just like “Okay, cool.”) Yakko was kind of the tritagonist so I didn’t pay attention to him. But watching Animaniacs...I didn’t like him. (See Wakko and Dot posts for more information)
I avoided every episode with his name in the title. He was okay with his siblings. But not by himself.
Reason as child? No idea. Maybe also I tend to pay attention to the younger cast members.
Reason several years ago...can be a number of things. When I watch shows, I tend to pay attention to the younger kids most likely because I am the youngest in my family. I could’ve not got what he was saying. ...Could be just no coherent reason. Sometimes you look at somebody and just get a dislike for them. He could’ve reminded me of some type of people that I don’t like.
Imagine my surprise when about 90% of the fanbase has him as is favorite. I mean I knew but it was strong, and the people...confused me. The other 10% were either Wakko (7%), Dot (2%), or a side characters (1%). I’m guesstimating.
People either wanted to be like Yakko or crushed on him. Couldn’t understand either. But...so much so that there was even some hostility if you liked another character more. I’ll never understand why people can never accept other people’s opinions. I’ll go more in-depth in Wakko and Dots’ posts.
Appearance-wise, I remember considering him plain (lol). Like Wakko and Dot had more clothing.
I’m the only one I knew that didn’t like him. So I never said anything.
I was only frustrated because he had the most skits to himself. So i had to skip episodes because of it.
You know what made me start liking him?Family by The Middle Warner Sibling
I remember reading the ch. 1 authors notes and thinking to myself, “This is gonna change how I feel about Yakko.” And it did.
I guess it...humanized him? But it made me feel how he felt and kept him in-character. (Although...he’s pretty shallow.) But I owe TMWS for it. Cause I wrote him off when he didn’t really deserve it. So if you’re reading this TMWS, thank you.
So now I like all three equally. Although, there are times where I don’t care for him.
I love how close he is with his siblings.
Quotes I like:
“Do you know who I am!?”
“Why? Did you forget?”
“Something died on your head.”
“Bark like a dog and call me daddy.”
“Man if I had a nickel every time a girl asked me ‘what the hell is this thing?’”
...I gotta watch the episodes for more cause I know I have more.
So far for the reboot, he seems to act the same.
I’m gonna go back to this post to edit in the future. But for now, this is all I have to say.
Here are some pics of him that I like and will keep updating. Feel free to add more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like the pose in the first one. I like how his hat covers his face in the second one.
Tumblr media
This is really nice. His face and how the scene plays out.

Now see here!
Tumblr media
This is funny. He’s way too happy.

Time for a freaky picture. O.O

This is from my old blog, I honestly LOVE lists (and writing in bullets for some strange reason). Random and sporadic on topics and the numbers have NO MEANING. I'm NOT ordering them from most fave to least fave, just how they come to mind.
Also keynotes: Favorites doesn't always mean Favorites just what I enjoy the most. And there will be duplication at times
(Side note: Let's update this list from before as it's been two years and see what has changed. * means updated)
-Me- (Just little stuff I figured I'd do. Wasn't even supposed to be a list XD) 1. I'm a Major Introvert, I don't like to socialize with others in real life and prefer to do so online 2. I'm a major procrastinator 3. I mainly work nights so I get to sleep during the day 4. I want to make more friends online yet I have a hard time reaching out. The last time I interacted online was on DeviantArt and FFN years ago 5. I'm pretty much online all day/night on my nights off 6. Eye doctors have told me I have a rare blue-grey-green hazel (Is it true that it’s rare I don’t know) eyes so they tend to change between these three colors or be a mixture at times. Lately I think my eyes are just grey which takes on different green and/or blue shades

“Please just hold on a little longer. I can’t loose you too.” Yakko Wakko dot
Yakko knew things wouldn’t feel the same after Wakko left, he just hadn’t expected it to this degree.
At first, it had been okay. Not pleasant, nor was it enjoyable, but... bearable. With Wakko being gone, and Dot often needing to nap to preserve her strength, Yakko was left alone with his thoughts, something he was hating more and more. Times like that he wished he was a normal kid with normal kid problems.
He missed his parents a lot during those times too.
He had vague memories of being sick when he was a kid. His mother held him close, never leaving his side and singing softly to him. His father would tell him tales of battles he had fought in his knight days. He also told the story of how they met.
He loved that story, and would’ve given anything to hear them tell it again.
Yakko sighed. It had been nearly five years and he still missed them.
However, it wasn’t all bad. They only had to move once from winter to spring, and it seemed Yakko had a stroke of luck because just a little way outside of the town was an empty water-tower like building that was empty, except for two beds. Two whole beds. Yakko couldn’t even recall what it felt like to sleep in a bed, so he was overjoyed and full of excitement to show Dot.
Dot had been delighted to hear she’d have her own room and a giant bed of her own. Normally, Yakko was supposed to take the bigger bed, he was older and taller, but he wanted his sister to be as comfortable as possible. After all, she could very well-...
You know...
There were some sentences Yakko still wasn’t ready to finish.
However, that stroke of luck ended, and by May, Dot had hit another rough patch- a really, really rough patch. So much so that he considered writing Wakko a letter to return, but Wakko hadn’t written in a little while and Yakko wouldn’t have known where to address it.
It was moments like that that just made Yakko think, “Wow, this really sucks.”
“Y-yakko-” Dot called hoarsely from her room.
“I’m coming Dot, i’m coming,” He said as he finished preparing her a bowl of soup as quick as he could. He really hated leaving Dot alone, even for a second, like this. He never felt sure she was alive unless he was there, and watching her breathe.
“I’m back,” Yakko said as he entered and set the bowl down on the little nightstand he had made for her next to her bed, before scooting next to her in bed before she snuggled up next to him.
“Dot, you can’t snuggle now, you need to eat,” He pointed out. Dot shook her head weakly.
“Not hu-hungry-” She tried to say, but got interrupted by a lengthy cough that was bad enough to make Yakko cringe as he patted her back.
“C’mon Dot, you know it’s for your own good,” Yakko said. Dot didn’t look at him. Sighing, Yakko added, “If you can’t do it for you... can you at least do it for me?”
Dot glanced at him after that. He silently pleaded with his eyes and Dot begrudgingly sat up and nodded. Yakko was thankful that argument still worked: he wasn’t sure what he was going to do when/if it didn’t. That didn’t matter though, as that wasn’t the here and now, and Yakko began to feed her the soup.
Dot had always had a distaste for the soup, and Yakko couldn’t really blame her. The herbs and medicines the doctor had recommended didn’t smell all too good, nor did they taste pleasant, but they were good for her so she had to have it. Today, she wasn’t putting up much of a fight and willingly swallowed, which meant Yakko could rest easy tonight knowing she had at least something in her system today, something he couldn’t quite say for himself.
After a while, it was clear Dot had had enough and he set the bowl aside, and Dot cuddled back into him, but Yakko noticed that she clearly had something on her mind today, and whatever it was it was clearly bothering her. Yakko took in a deep breath, and mentally prepared himself before asking what was the matter.
“Yakko, what were Mom and Dad like?” she asked weakly.
“M-mon and Dad?” Yakko blinked. Of all the questions she could’ve possibly asked, he hadn’t prepared himself for that one. Dot nodded.
“W-well... Dad was a handsome knight who had married a beautiful princess,” he said.
“I know that Yakko... I mean what were they really like? Personalities, likes and dislikes, loves and hates,” Dot looked up at him. Yakko grimaced, but internally cursed himself for that. Dot had a right to be curious, she was less than a year old when everything happened, and Yakko had plenty of time to prepare himself for this moment.
“Well... Dad was really strong, and really really wise. He loved reading and liked to read me and Wakko bedtime stories,” Yakko said. “But he was also really funny, and he liked doing bad magic tricks for Wakko that made mom cringe,” he chuckled a little at the memory and was happy when he saw Dot was doing the same.
“But Mom still loved him, right?” Dot asked.
“Of course, that was one of the things she loved about him. He always made her smile,” Yakko smiled a little, hearing her in his head.
“What about Mom?” Dot asked. Yakko felt himself cringe as a swarm of memories flooded his mind that he pushed back, stuff he definitely wasn’t going to tell her.
“She... she was beautiful, witty, and kind, and a lot like you,” Yakko said, looking down at his little sister and noticing how true his words were.
“Really?” Dot said, trying to sit up, but was too weak, so Yakko helped her.
“Of course. There’s a reason you two share names,” He joked.
“Her name was Dot too?” She tilted her head.
“No, her name was Queen Angelina Contessa Louisa Francesca Banana Fanna Bo Besca II, and your full name is Princess Angelina Contessa Lousisa Francesca Banana Fanna Bo Besca III,” Yakko said. Dot smiled.
“I like that name,” She smiled weakly.
“It’s a very good name,” Yakko nodded.
“Better than Wakkorotti,” Dot added, and Yakko snorted.
“You got that right, just don’t tell Wakko,” He laughed. Dot nodded and did a “lips sealed” motion, before coughing weakly and returning to her cuddling position. Yakko tiredly sighed.
“I’m sure if she were still alive she’d be very proud of you- they both would be. They loved you very much and were willing to die if it meant you would be safe,” Yakko practically whispered as he stroked the fur on the top of her head softly. However, after he said that, Dot started to cry, which confused Yakko.
“Hey- what’s the matter?” He asked, equal parts confused and concerned.
“M-m-mom a-and dad d-died a-and I-i s-still m-might d-die and i-it’ll be for nothing a-and you’ll b-be sad a-again a-and Wakko is-isn’t here a-and- a-and-” Dot quickly lost control of her words and began to give in and sob into his chest.
“Dot- don’t say that,” Yakko was aghast. He honestly had no idea where such thoughts had come from.
“B-but it’s true,” She sniffled. “Th-they died to pr-protect u-us b-but I’m gonna die a-any way.”
“Dot, you aren’t going to die,” Yakko frowned.
“B-but...”
“No ‘but’s Dot. You can’t die. I won’t let you,” Yakko stated. “There is nothing on this planet I wouldn't do to keep you alive, and if death wants to take you he’ll have to get through me first,” he said.
“But I don’t want you to die! Wakko needs you!” Dot pleaded with teary eyes.
“Y-you... you need to stop caring about me... I don’t want you to be sad...” she muttered quietly and Yakko couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
“No. I refuse,” He shook his head.
“Yakko, please, I’m hurting you. You can’t care about me anymore,” She said, trying to push him away with all of her might, but her efforts were ineffective.
“Well, that’s tough. Because whether or not you want me to care about you, I’m gonna. Do you know why?” He grabbed her shoulders and forced her to look him in the eyes.
“Because you’re my baby sister, and it’s my sworn duty as your older brother to take care of you. I love you Dot, and nothing is ever going to change that. I’d never, ever stop caring about you, no matter how much you beg me to.”
“B-b-but-”
“No ‘but’s Dot. I love you, nothing, and I mean nothing, is ever going to change that,” He quickly wrapped her into a hug, and she buried her head in his arms and cried more, and he didn’t even flinch when the cries mixed with coughs, he was determined to never let her go.
The pair stayed like that until Dot was able to wear herself out, exhausted by the emotional outburst. Still, it seemed to be slightly therapeutic, as the certain tension that had been with her for the last few days seemed to have weakened.
Yakko stood and kissed her forehead as he tucked her in.
“Please don’t give up yet Dot,” He thought as he smiled tiredly at her. “I know what I said, but I’m scared too. I just... I can’t afford to lose you too.”
“Goodnight Dot,” He said out loud.
“Wait Yakko-” She grabbed his arm.
“Yes?” He questioned.
“Can... can you stay with me tonight?” Dot looked away nervously.
“Of course,” Yakko smiled tenderly, which only increased as he saw the joy it brought to her as she skooched aside so there was adequate room for him. It was a big bed, and though it was full of hay and not feathers, it still was plenty big and comfortable enough for the both of them.
“Goodnight Dot,” Yakko said as she snuggled up close.
“Goodnight Yak,” Dot smiled weakly before sniffling and shivering slightly. Yakko held her closer and the shiver subsided.
Dot had no idea what she had been talking about. Yakko was never ever going to stop caring about her. He didn’t care if it would hurt him more in the long run, the last thing he wanted to end up was bitter and alone. He promised his mom he’d take care of his siblings and he sure as hell wasn’t going to stop caring now.

“ there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to keep you safe” yakko dot Wakko
“What do you mean we can’t stay here anymore Yakko?” Wakko asked his older brother. Yakko sighed heavily. Wakko was six years old now, and Yakko had originally hoped that meant he’d be able to get a grip on things and make his life easier, but his hopes were in vain.
“I mean the orphanage is being shut down by King Salazar, so we have to go somewhere else,” Yakko rubbed his forehead as he folded blankets and put them into bags.
“Why? He isn’t really king, dadoo was,” Wakko frowned, and Yakko shot him a look.
“Wakko- how many times have I told you not to say things like that,” He said in a harsh whisper. Wakko lowered his head and muttered an apology. Yakko sighed. “King William and Queen Angelina the Second died two years ago, and King Salazar took his place.”
“Why does he want to shut down an orphanage? Doesn’t he have important things to do?” He asked.
“You’d think that, wouldn’t you?” Yakko scoffed. He looked at his younger siblings and sighed again.
“King Salazar isn’t a good man. He’s very greedy, and wants to put up a different shop here because he doesn’t want to fund the orphanage anymore,” Yakko explained.
“But we don’t have anywhere else to go, doesn’t he know that?” Wakko huffed and crossed his arms. Yakko tried to think of a response as his eyes went to Dot, who was running around chasing a butterfly that had gotten inside somehow.
“I know that Wak... but there isn’t anything we can do,” He shrugged and continued packing.
“There has to be something,” Wakko kicked the ground and thought.
“Wakko, there just... isn’t. Not everything can be stopped,” Yakko touched his younger brother’s shoulder. Wakko didn’t respond, looking at the ground intensely as he thought.
“C’mon Wak, we have to go,” Yakko said, tying up the blankets and what little clothes they had into one blanket that he slung around his shoulder. He called to Dot, and she ran on over, beaming up to him with the confidence and joyfulness that only a naive two-year-old could possess.
“Wak.” Yakko said, becoming impatient. Wakko sighed and kicked the ground, muttering, but Yakko didn’t particularly care, and the warners left the now empty orphanage.
“Where we go?” Dot asked her eldest brother.
“Somewhere else, but not too far, Acme Falls is home,” Yakko said, bluffing his confidence. At least he knew some of it was true; no matter what, he was never going to leave Acme Falls. His mom told him to stay there, that was where he was going to stay. He couldn’t risk him and his sibs getting recognized, he couldn’t afford to lose them too...
“I want to go back,” Wakko huffed again. Yakko groaned internally, getting very tired of the wave of moodiness that had overcome his brother.
“We can’t go back Wak, I just explained that to you,” He stated, avoiding looking at a few of the townsfolk who were shooting them looks of pity.
“I want to go home,” Wakko stomped. Yakko stepped back.
“Wakko, we don’t have a home. We don’t have anywhere to go,” Yakko said for what felt like the millionth time in two years.
“Why can’t we go back and fight for our home?!” Wakko shouted, angrier than before. Yakko’s eyes widened, and he quickly scanned to see who was watching before he pulled his brother by the collar of his shirt into an ally, and Dot followed closely behind.
“Wakko, where on earth are you getting these ideas?” Yakko harshly whispered.
“Those stupid stories you tell Dot-”
“Hey!” Dot protested but was ignored.
“-talk about brave princes who fight evil. Why can’t we? King Saladbar-”
“King Salazar is a grown-up, and very, very powerful. We couldn’t fight him if we tried.” Yakko put his foot down.
“C’mon, in Dot’s stories it’s always the little guy. We could fight him,” Wakko said proudly
“Yeah!” Dot agreed with his enthusiasm, not really grasping what he was saying.
“Not ‘yeah’ Dot, that’s a very dumb idea,” He told her.
“You said good people always fight for what's right and to protect what they love,” Wakko scowled.
“Of course they do Wakko, it’s just-”
“Then why don’t we fight?!” Wakko seemed outraged now and Yakko really, really hoped no one was listening in to any of this.
“Because you’re just a kid Wakko. You can’t fight,” Yakko said.
“Not true- I fight Dot and I win,” Wakko crossed his arms.
“She’s two, she doesn’t count,” Yakko rolled his eyes. “And besides, I am protecting you two.”
“Faboo job so far,” Wakko muttered under his breath, but Yakko heard it clear as day.
“Watch your tone Wakko or so help me-”
“Or what? You aren’t Mum or Dad,” Wakko stomped, which made Dot jump and scurry behind Yakko.
“Wakkorotti Alan Warner so help me-” Yakko felt his temperature rise with anger, but he swallowed it best as possible, bringing his fist to his mouth and attempting to take calming breaths.
“Look, I know you’re confused. I’m sorry that the orphanage closed, there’s nothing we can do about it,” He said, looking down when he saw Dot hold his hand. “Just... know that there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to keep you- either of you safe, okay? I love you guys more than anything,” Yakko said.
“If you’d do anything to protect us, then why won’t you fight Salazar, huh??? Why did you let him take away our home???”
“Why did you let Mum and Dad die?!”
Wakko’s words felt like a giant bat hit him right in the chest and left him feeling utterly speechless. He looked at Wakko and saw that tears were streaming down his face, and he covered his mouth with his hands. Yakko couldn’t look at him, and he turned around to face the back of the alley.
“Yakko?” Dot asked quietly. She was likely confused from all of the shouting, but Yakko didn’t have it in him to comfort her. He was done.
He could still see his mother in his mind, all bruised and bloodied. He remembered what her soft velvet gloves felt like against his cheek, her soft and tender kisses on his forehead, and he could still hear her cries of agony right before the gunshot that silenced her.
Guilt had wracked his mind ever since that night. At first, he hadn’t been able to sleep, he stayed up for weeks at a time, before exhaustion got to him and he was forced to sleep. He was slowly able to regain control of his guilt, with the help of the local doctor, but it still rested in the back of his mind, like a sleeping dragon.
A dragon that Wakko had just woken up.
“Y-yakko I’m sorry- I-i didn’t mean it,” Wakko was quick to apologize, but Yakko couldn’t look back at him.
He hadn’t gotten to say goodbye to his dad, but he had seen his mother. He could’ve done something, but he froze, he froze, like some idiot and he had gotten caught, and because they saw him they killed her.
It was his fault. He froze, and because of that his mother was killed.
“Y-yakko please, I’m s-so s-so sorry. I didn’t mean it- You did what you could,” Wakko was practically sobbing at his point. Yakko glanced back at him, and that confirmed his suspicion. Wakko took his glance back as an invitation to hug him, and soon Yakko was almost crushed by the strong embrace of his little brother and little sister. Yakko swallowed painfully as he felt a sob of his own get caught in his throat.
“I’m so so so s-so sor-sorry Ya-Yakko, I-i love you,” Wakko squeezed tighter. “
“I-i-” Yakko started, but he couldn’t speak. He knew his siblings didn’t understand, how could they? They were trying their darndest to comfort him, but they didn’t understand. Whether or not Wakko meant it wasn’t relevant, he was right, and the weight of that fact would rest on Yakko’s shoulders for the rest of time. Yakko began to cry.
“You're the best big brother I would ever wish for! I didn’t mean any of that! You love us a whole lot a-and we love you too, right Dot?” Wakko sniffled and looked to his two-year-old sister, who nodded enthusiastically.
“Yeah! Dot loves Yakko!” She said. Yakko couldn’t help but chuckle a little at that. Dot’s way of speaking did that to him.
“Yeah! A-and I love you too! You’re the best big brother and a good prince and a good protector,” Wakko let go of him only to wipe his tears off of his own face. Yakko did the same and took in a deep breath.
“I love you two too,” Yakko said shakily. Wakko bit his lip.
“I didn’t mean it really- It’s Saladbar’s fault, not yours. He’s evil and mean and he decided to attack our home. It isn’t your fault mum and dad gone, I was being stupid,” Wakko said. Yakko nodded slowly, doing his best to take in the words. They almost sounded to elegant to be Wakko’s, but Wakko had a knack for expressing his emotions, something even he, the quote-on-quote “talkative” sibling, struggled with.
“Thank you Wak... just... don’t ever say anything like that again, okay?” Yakko asked him. Wakko nodded his head a thousand and one times.
“I promise, Yakko. I didn’t mean it. Saladbar is the one to blame, I hate him,” Wakko stated affirmatively. Yakko couldn’t help but snicker had his mispronunciation of Salazar, which made Wakko happier.
“While I usually don’t condone hatred... I’ll let it slide this one time. We can hate Salazar,” He said. Dot and Wakko beamed.
“Good, because I really, really hate him,” He said.
“Yeah! Dot hates Saladbar!” Dot shouted, raising a tiny fist in the air and giggling.
“Good,” Yakko smiled at her and took her hand. “I’m glad we all can agree on that.” He went to pick up the bag of their stuff, but Wakko took it instead, and held his brother’s other hand.
“Now, let’s go find us some shelter. There’s got to be something around here somewhere...” Yakko said, and together the little family walked out of the alleyway and began to look for somewhere where they would start the next chapter of their lives, secure in the knowledge that while they couldn’t change the past they did have each other, and that’s all that mattered.
