#persona 3 #persona 3 spoilers #minato arisato #makoto yuki #ryoji mochizuki #aigis #ryomina #lizzy does art #HELLO EVERYONE!!! march 5th is upon us again so i bring... my contribution for this year. my third year drawing for it! #i made the thumbnail for this a few weeks after last year's graduation day #i thought it would be fun to lean into the ryominaigis angle of graduation day (you could read this as minato/aigis if you like- #but i feel like most people would read it as ryoji/minato) #IN ANY CASE working on this made me very emotional over this game :') (specifically minato) #i really enjoy how p3 ends it's such a nice way of wrapping up the narrative's messages and themes #working on this. minato's kindness was at the forefront of my mind throughout the piece #and i really wanted to capture how. ultimately it was his decision to sacrifice himself- to do the great seal #while to an outsider's perspective it is. sad that minato passes. i think becoming the seal is something that minato- #actively welcomes. in the same way that death (ryoji) is a comfort to him because death was housed in him for Ten YearsTM #AND I ALSO GOT REALLY SAD OVER AIGIS TOO. i still get fucked up over how in fes's animated cutscene for 3/5 they portray- #her as human and not drawing the robot parts so i wanted to do something smilar here... #but also i am very sad on aigis's behalf because she discovers her humanity through minato and realizes what she- #wants to do and then. well. minato is like. he's ready to pass on (even if he's scared) and im like. OH MY GOD THIS TRIO GETS ME MESSED UP #this was more coherent in my head LOL BUT ough i like drawing p3 and working through my feelings about it... #anyway! happy (in quotations) march 5th. i love this game to bits. it's so fun to draw for this day every year and see how i've improved #if you've read all this thank you :) lizzy appreciates you all very much. mwah! <3

edit: might need to add some additional dialogue to this to make it more clear, but a clarification in the interim; he knows about his own footprints. he's just surprised to see something similar already there when he knows he's only just landed. he lifts his own shoe to confirm that they're not identical (and also to reveal this to the viewer). seems his stoicism beat off the clarity in this one, sorry 😭

People always talk about Fingolfin "following Fëanor" during the Flight, but hardly ever mention that his words to Fëanor are just an afterthought, a bonus, not the main reason he went. The first and one of the two most prominent reasons was because Fingon urged him. And Fingolfin marching in the Flight of the Ñoldor against his wisdom because Fingon urged him is so fascinating to me, mostly for what it may imply for Fingon angst.

I mean he was at the forefront of Fingolfin's host until at least Alqualondë; though after Alqualondë it's never mentioned again, so I wonder if he stopped leading first after that. But my point is: Fingolfin marched behind him, he followed Fingon. And what became of him following Fingon into exile? The Doom of the Ñoldor, Alqualondë, Fëanor abandoning them, them needing to cross the Helcaraxë and losing tons of people, Argon and Elenwë's deaths, etc etc...

Not that any of this is directly Fingon's fault, of course, but I wonder if Fingon had a moment where he looked at his father after Fëanor abandoned them and just thought "This is my fault, he's here because of me. He could have been happy with his wife, mom, and brother in Valinor but instead he followed me and now we're Doomed and in despair".

Because after that, Fingon followed Fingolfin. He followed his father across the Helcaraxë, he saved Maedhros in part to heal the rift between their hosts and make things easier for his father, he held Dor-Lómin for his father and then vacated it when it was given to Hador, he worked seemingly directly for his father as a war commander during the Siege (beating back Glaurung, that orc host that tried attacking them from the north etc). It just seems to me that he was glued to his father's side and did almost everything for him, for his sake. I wonder if this was to "make it up" to Fingolfin in his mind for dragging him into this mess, and/or maybe because after Alqualondë Fingon no longer trusted his own rash decisions.

This is just one potential theory/interpretation, I know, but... Mmm, yum, yummy angst,,,. ..
