Anyways on another note Esteban just casually mentioned a theory of an “all non mens alliance” which isn’t something he floated around to me ab all before so like I’m interested to see his reasoning. I think that there could potentially be some backing to it though because apparently the people who were originally throwing my name around were AJ, Trinica, and Tori. Obviously Jinx is working with AJ and Trin bc they played an idol on AJ so that’s 4. But Im still not entirely sold based on the vote count.

NOT A TRIBE SWAP!!!! I'm screwed if I end up with any of the guys at this point, even Esteban. AJ asked me if I thought we should campaign for one of us for captain and I told her no because it would make it seem like we're playing too hard, but she immediately said in our pink venom (Jinx, me, Toni, AJ, and Bethany) chat that she wants to be captain... I went to Jinx and Toni in our vecepia/WOC alliance to see what they think. Jinx would probably pick Toni and I first and second, and I *think* Toni would do the same. I know AJ is my #1, but she's very vocal in every chat we're in and I think she shows her cards a little too soon sometimes. Also, I don't want her to have the most coins out of any of us lol.

So this game is starting to get really interesting! I’m more invested in it then I thought I’d be.😅 I’m so ready for the results in this next challenge, id like to think that my answers were pretty unique to where they don’t cross with anyone else’s. Fingers crossed! As far as alliances go, I have made one with Hairie and Champ considering we’re newbies to the game and have to stick together. My first thoughts and go to were Raffy since he knows what’s he’s doing and could coach me a bit, however when I asked him if he had anything going on he completely ignored me so that was a red flag for me! I feel really confident in the two I chose to align myself with though. Champ and I went on an idol hunt and received 10 coins each. We also found out Hairie has 10 coins as well. We decided to go with him as our team captain so that will also give him another 25 coins in our favor! We banking over here! Lol we’ll see what’s to come with this challenge and our tribe swap. We’re planning on just picking off Hydra one by one after splitting the team on both sides. Hope it all works out in our favor!

Jinx is an icon and I can't wait to try and work with them. I am just vibing here with my two alliances. I would prefer an AJ and Hairie tribe leaders since AJ seems at the bottom of their tribe and Hairie I trust. If we do a one world, I am hoping to get out someone from Hidra. Maybe Esteban based on my own bias. Other than that, I really am just rolling with the punches here. I feel like I'm in a good position and don't need to do much in this game atm.

I am concerned that people are already seeing me as a threat, but there is nothing I can do. I don't like throwing challenges, so I won't change who I am to cater to anyone's preconceived notions of me. So far, I am letting Hairie take the reins in terms of strategy talk as I want someone else to take the lead.

I was lowkey campaigning for AJ NOT to get tribe captain, but I feel....middling to okay about my odds of surviving this tribe swap now that she is. I'm just seeding doubts in my vecepia alliance with Jinx and Toni, suggesting that AJ is closer to Tyler than we know, that she's playing hard, that she makes emotional decisions, etc. (Am I the drama??) I want them to still think I don't talk to AJ much and also when I inevitably have to vote AJ off (because I just can't sit next to her at tribal) hopefully I'd have Toni and Jinx's votes.

I survived another day, and a very tense tribal council. Honestly I worry we're heading back with this 30% disadvantage but yeah. I've done all I can and enjoyed a nice day off, found a fun 5% advantage for my next challenge so that's nice. Also I got elected tribe captain for the tribe swap which is great! Stay tuned, fingers crossed we somehow manage to win this one

A LOT has happened. With the last tribal came the realisation of party lines. So let me catch you up. *DEEP BREATH*

Last time I was here I was firmly with my girls Trinica and Jinx! I still am and we're doing well. I was unsure about Esteban but I hesitate no longer. I was initially very open to Esteban and pretty sure I had a good read of him but Jinx alerted me to the idea that he may be working with Clefford. He came to me with a suspicious question asking whether I did an Idol hunt with AJ to which I responded honestly as I trusted him at that point. He then proceeded to make a really big deal of the fact that AJ lied and said she didn't Idol hunt with anyone else. He then asserted that Trinica and AJ were close and that we needed to break them up. We need to break up an alliance of TWO people out of NINE?! something wasn't adding up. It seemed so extreme so when I floated the Idea of working with Clefford saying he's probably misunderstood (we'd previously been talking about how Clefford was playing HARD already) and he agreed to work with Clefford my suspicion grew. Jinx suggested an alliance with AJ and Bethany to me and after feeling them out I decided it was a good idea to align with all the girls so I suggested to Trinica that we make a girls alliance group chat so I could stay under the radar. Clefford and Esteban all this time I believe thought they were playing us. Clefford suggested a POC alliance to me but excluded the two other black women. :') In the end I made up my own mind that Clefford and Esteban were both playing pretty hard and that it was better to cast my lot with the girls who i'd been able to build some genuine trust with. Yes! That's right ALL THE GIRLS WERE IN ON THE CLEFFORD BLINDSIDE! I'm not convinced that the boys bought the idea that we all voted with them but at least we have plausible deniability. I heard every version of everyones plan but Esteban and Clefford never earned my voice (vote). I think that's it for the recap. Bye Clefford hope to play with you again lovely!

Moving on to today the twist is really going to shake things up I may potentially need to create new alliances and build new connections so I need to read the other tribe's intros. On the current alliance front Jinx, Trinica and I are solid though I have noticed that Jinx can bulldoze a decision in her favour so I'm trying to set clear boundaries. Jinx playing so hard may cost her so I've started creating contingencies to strengthen our alliance in the event of that. Bethany and AJ are great and really trustworthy so far. AJ practically fell on the sword and put her life in our hands last tribal so we could vote Clefford out. I'm really vibing with AJ which is funny given I didn't think we would get on at all. In the event Jinx is eliminated AJ is the backup plan. Additionally, if I am moved to play with a whole host of other people i'll be checking to see who else I can pull into our alliance.

I can't currently think straight because I haven't slept properly since Friday so i'll sign off now with a migraine. buhbye!

We lost the challenge, as was to be expected, and now Esteban is scrambling, as was also to be expected. I stayed up way too late the last several days working alliances and doing challenges, so I'm trying to just take a moment to myself tonight before things get nuts tomorrow. Hopefully an easy vote for Esteban, though he said something about "doing whatever I can to stay" which made me a bit nervous. Still, we don't have the numbers to split a vote so all we can do is stay 5-strong in the pink venom alliance with Jay, Toni, Bethany, AJ, and myself and try to get Esteban gone.

I did raise voting Tyler out with AJ-- mostly because I've now tried to chat with Tyler twice and he's put up a pretty clear wall both times-- but AJ doesn't want to get rid of him because "he seems to trust" her. And I think an ally of my kinda-ally is my enemy, so I may need to work a Tyler vote out with Jinx and Toni separately. But we'll see what happens with tomorrow's tribe swap!

What a morning! Brandi told me that Hairie was trying to find an idol by saying a secret phrase in the tribe chat. He needed people to reply to his message. Brandi, also, had the same task so she put her message in the tribe chat. They both got the replies that they needed around the same time. However, neither will admit that they received the idol. So, now I know one of them doesn't trust me. I am inclined to believe that Hairie has the idol. He seems like he wants to play this game very strategically. However, he should get better at his lying if he has the idol. At the very least, I know where my tribe idol is. Now, I just have to play around it. It helps that both of them are working with me, so I don't have to worry about the idol being used against me for now.

My swapped tribe is... not ideal. Bethany, Tyler, and Esteban know how I tend to play Survivor. For all I know, they could be plotting to turn my allies against me at the swap. I want to change my gameplay genuinely, but will they even give me that chance? This is what worries me. I've managed a good position thus far, but it could all come tumbling down. At least I have Champ and Hairie. Though, with JayJay, I remain unsure if she trusts me. I'll put my trust in her though. I really want to connect with her, but I've been having trouble keeping conversations going. Hopefully by tonight we can bond.

kay so sorry this confessional is so late, i was extremely busy yesterday/today!! but basically, the last vote went perfectly. jinx had their messy moment with the idol play and our non-men alliance was kept under wraps as far as i know!!

unfortunately, i contributed to our tribe having a 30% challenge disadvantage this round, so there were basically 0 chance of us winning. thankfully, that didn't seem to make anyone feel any sort of way about me. and today i got a 10% advantage for the next challenge so that's a slay!! so we are back at tribal because we had lit rally no chance of winning that unless the other tribe decided to throw on purpose.

going into this tribal, a lot of the people from pink venom wanted esteban gone, for painting targets on aj and trinica's backs from the first day. this was not ideal for me, as i do think esteban trusts me and i can continue to work with him moving forward. but i also wasn't going to put my neck out for him as i'm sure there is already the perception of us being a duo just from playing the same season together before. however, thankfully the target changed!!! honestly idek why it changed but it changed to azri which is perfect because i have pretty much 0 relationship with him and he's more inactive with me than other people.

the swap is a little scary but i'm also excited for it!! i know champ from another org, so i am excited to talk to her and then just excited to meet all the other new people. i need to be more social on this swapped tribe because i've kind of dropped the ball so far on hidra because i've been so busy and i'm just thankful there are a bunch of girlbosses who welcomed me in because otherwise, my game hasn't been great.

as long as i can make the merge, i think i will be in an amazing position being the only one from pink venom to come to this tribe. 🎥: Do you have any favorite scenes from your hyperfixation?

This is hard bc I have a lot of scenes I like and good scenes keep happening dhdjfn.

There are a lot of stand-outs so far. Among them is definitely like, the confrontation in the car between Blake and Sakio, and the recent social link scene with Blake and Lena on the boat.

Scenes that DON’T involve my own character that I adore include. The scene with Sakio and Camellia at the graveyard. The scene with with Lena and Twitch outside the store. The Sammy’s scene where they read Tango’s letter. Also the scene with Sammy and Masumi bc it was just extremely funny.

🎶: If your hyperfixation has songs / an OST, what is your favorite song from it?

Hm. Well time once again to advertise my Blake playlist, which I’m constantly putting a lot of work and thought into tbh dhjddb, I’ve deleted a fair number of songs from it when I feel they don’t fit, and I’m constantly messing with the order of the songs in relation to Blake’s prospective characters arc, and adding more as I find them fndkfnf I’m always on the lookout.

Also, vane is constantly updating the official playlist with some real bangers, and I appreciate that. Amil’s and Twitch’s themes are real good.

💕: Tell us about one of your favorite characters and why you like them!

Everybody has really really good characters, heck. One thing that strikes me is that even with taking the backseat and having to be on autopilot for several sessions, Camellia still has such a strong and distinct personality, to the point where everyone is on the same page abt them, and I think that’s just really amazing dhdjfjf, that’s how strong an impression they make every time they’re around.

Lena is also so good, she’s like… I think abt her frequently. Sometimes I just start giggling when I think abt Lena, bc she is a national treasure, and I hope she knows I care abt her. She’s great in this way that she’s both very funny/cute and also has a lot of depth and nuance to her arc, and I’m so excited for more.

In the same vein, Sammy. No one character has made me go from giggling to sobbing as fast as this green goat. One moment Sammy is making their cat do a little greeting and I’m rolling on the floor from the cuteness, and then the next second they’re crying and saying they don’t want to be left behind, and then I am also crying. How do they do it. The absolute range.

I also really appreciate Ilse like, particularly in contrast to Blake sometimes, in that Ilse is very smart in a way that’s quiet, self-conscious and careful, while Blake is at times recklessly arrogant, and those two bounce off each other well. Ilse feels mature at times but every time they quietly like, try to be the bigger person, or to not make a problem of themselves, I wanna give them a hug and be like “u deserve to be recognized and acknowledged and u deserve better” dhdjdndjdn. When u have big personalities like Sakio and Lena and Blake in the party there’s something compelling abt Ilse being with them and not asserting themselves as they try to do their best, if that makes sense, and I want them to know I see and appreciate them.

Sakio is also so good and I’ve talked abt this to vane plenty before but holy shit. There’s so much obvious care and love and effort and skill that went into writing a character who is both wrong in many ways, and who many player characters antagonize for good reason, and yet still so incredibly sympathetic, so likable and so compelling. The fact that both Blake and Lena have this relationship with Sakio where they don’t like or trust her, necessarily, but also can’t deal with her not being there, is so fucking good, it creates such powerful conflict in the smallest of ways. Sakio is great bc I love her and I understand her and I appreciate her, but I also wanna yell at her and think she is absolutely horribly wrong about incredibly crucial things and u can FEEL that turmoil in her as well, with her knowing on some level that her actions are going to cause harm, and she’s just waiting and hoping to take the fall, thinking, maybe foolishly, that she can, and that doing so will save everyone else.

I also fucking love so many minor characters we haven’t seen much of so far. I absolutely love Bee and I’ve told vane abt this but she’s just a total icon. Theo is also great, he is the only valid he/him in the entire campaign djdkfj. I love Twitch as well and I’m very excited for some of the interesting stuff in Twitch’s arc that has been hinted at coming to fruition later on, that’s very exciting. I’m also very excited to learn more abt Amil’s whole deal, I appreciate them a lot and I feel bad every time I have to make Blake come pester them fndkfnf. Oh also Prim, how did I forget Prim… what’s going on with her, I have no idea, but she’s a mean lady and my love for mean ladies is well-documented. Also her look is iconic. Also also Puck, the fact that he’s a child and I didn’t know it for several months shocked me to my core but it has made his brand of Shakespearean mischief that much more endearing, and now I seek only to give him snacks and let him sit in his funny garbage throne. I forgot abt Puck earlier so I’ll say he is the second valid he/him in the campaign but frankly I think Puck should take some neopronouns for a spin, he deserves it.

🏳️‍🌈: Do you have any headcanons (LGBT, race, neuro, etc.) that are important to you?

(*throws neurological disorders at Blake*) jdkdnfkf no but jokes aside. I love that this party is like, 5 player characters, 4 of whom use they/them. Just. The raw power of a persona series written by LGBT+ ppl…

I can’t speak on other ppl’s characters too much but as for Blake, they’re a closeted transfem and also too much of a disaster for a coherent sexuality but probably bi. Autistic, and an abuse survivor who experiences paranoid delusions and self-destructive tendencies. Probably more, but specifics are messy, they’re a fucking mess, what’s going on with them, they don’t even know.

Masumi is a binary trans lesbian, also an abuse survivor and manages quite a bit of paranoia of her own, dealing with mood swings and occasional delusions of grandeur, most of it she keeps internally managed which isn’t great for her mental health.

💎: Are there any fun facts or trivia that you would like to share?

Blake’s original characterization was thought up prior to the campaign and was very different from their finished characterization. They lived on a farm with their parents and were pretty quiet and passive before being arrested for a murder they didn’t commit (this part is the same) and their personality was way more quiet, reserved and passive, with the whole celebrity aspect completely absent. They were still going to be the sort of clever leader type character but leaned far more into the background. Their design was also different, with their hair in a low ponytail rather than high and scars on their face from scrapes and accidents working on the farm.

I realized that, even though this character was more of an original idea than Masumi (who I was playing in another campaign at the time and who was characterized somewhat differently as well) I didn’t find myself excited to write them, couldn’t get invested in them in the same way, and as I kept workshopping them I decided to be more self-indulgent and lean more into shamelessly making them an Akechi expy in more ways.

And what resulted from that, ironically, is what I feel is a better character in the end. Blake feels more dynamic, lively and interesting now than the old iteration I first thought up, back when I was intent on making them My Own Creation with their own arc. At this point I’m comfortable saying that Blake, for all their similarities to Akechi, has evolved over the course of the campaign into a more interesting character, into someone I recognize as distinctly different and who stands out. They feel unique to me, and feel like my own character. And I think that only could’ve happened through playing them in a TTRPG like this, in developing them along with others, and having to adapt, and I think that’s the beautiful thing about developing characters with other people. The Blake I’ve ended up with is one I’m really happy with, who I feel is more interesting and dynamic to me than if I had just tried to force something unique just to not feel cringe about making an expy. And maybe I need to learn that lesson before I go through the same thing with Zee fjdkfnf.

We’re skipping the filler stuff this week and jumping straight into the Plot bc our DM has figured out how to connect us to her main campaign and really wants to get to the good parts.

It’s been a while so we had to do a little discussing to remember where we’d left off: Destroying a dog-fighting ring, making friends with the dogs, and kidnapping the pit boss.

We dragged the pit boss halfway back to town bc we’d left our horses at the inn, and then dragged him into the woods to interrogate.

I woke him up with a slammin’ lute chord (and I was absolutely thinking “SECRET TUNNEEEEELLLLL!” in my head as I did).

Udaji rolled another ‘4’ on her Perception check and someone else in the voice chat said “yeah that’s on-brand for her”.

ZONE OF TRUTH! ZONE OF TRUTH! ZONE OF TRUTH!

(the pit boss calls the dogs ‘stupid animals’) “Someone needs to hold Udaji back, please.”

“Lord Hassan? Yeah, he’s the boss-.....I shouldn’t have said that.”

This poor man didn’t have a high enough intelligence to recognize the spell ‘Zone of Truth’ and is confused af right now.

The second piece of the map to the Crescent Gang’s Hideout was rolled up in a little bottle on a string around the pit boss’ neck - now we have two!

We asked where the third piece was, but the pit boss didn’t know - he gave us a few towns that he thought it might be in, though (such as Caister, in Everton).

Apparently, you need to layer all three map pieces over top of each other to see the full picture - like animation cells!

We asked about the marriage-murder scam, too, but the pit boss didn’t know anything important.

“If these bitches were cute enough then maybe-” *angry Dragonborn noises*

“Maybe we could feed him to the dogs?” “No way! Burnt Toast and Matthias Jr. need a well-balanced diet, not junk food.”

The only thing holding Udaji back from killing this man rn is Claus’ hand on her shin.

We leave the pit boss tied up in the wilderness, and he’s probably going to die. It’s a good thing none of us are Lawful Neutral.

The fastest way to Caister is by boat, which will take about one week, rather than two weeks if by land.

We have to pay to board the horses on the boat, but as long as the sailors were allowed to pet our new dogs, we didn’t have to pay for their boarding.

“What would you like to do on your two week boat ride?”/”I would like to train Matthias Jr. to play dead when shot with a pretend bow and arrow.”

Level Four! Yay!

We had barely landed in Everton when we heard an NPC shouting about a thief.

Mountain was too distracted trying to keep Señor Guapo from eating poison ivy to notice the commotion.

I have only just now realized that I did not include in my last session’s notes that the other two dogs are named “Señor Guapo” and “Joel”.

“Because Claus is a good boy and he is the conscience of this party.”

“We could also surround her. We number quite many.”

*insert Benny Hill theme here as the party & our dogs attempt to surround the suspected thief while our horses graze serenely a few meters away from the chaos*

The thief is a hungry young woman I don’t care what her role in the story is I have already mentally adopted her.

Mountain paid the farmer the five copper the carrots were worth, and the man stormed off, threatening to call the guard if we let her near his farm again.

“You offer her your rations, and she looks at you like you are God.”

The child is absolutely bewildered by the size of Ganondorf the Horse, but then she looked back at me (the Dragonborn) and whispered “Oooh, that makes sense…”

Soothing lute music is good for panic attacks and that’s about all Udaji’s good for right now.

Her name is Colette De Mir, and she claims to have fallen on hard times after receiving a letter pROPOSING MARRIAGE TO A LORD IN EVERTON OH NO-

She survived an attack on her traveling group, and was the only survivor. Lord Hassan tried to kill her, and threw her off of a bridge into a ravine, where she once again managed to cheat death. No-one else in her party survived, and everything in their carriage that could be stolen was.

Burnt Toast and Joel are therapy dogs: Confirmed.

Colette was horrified when we told her that she was not the only one who had been targeted by this scam, and demanded to know what we knew.

Matthias doesn’t trust her, for some reason, but the high Insight roll checks out.

“Yeeting princesses is not a very Lordly activity.”

Colette says she woke up underwater after the fall, and found herself breathing rather normally. What a way to find out you’re a sorcerer.

I lent her one of the costumes from my Entertainer’s pack, to replace her dirty and mismatched clothing as we go into town, and it’s WAY too big for her, considering it was sized for a Dragonborn.

Once we get to town, Astrid and I take Colette on a spa/shopping trip so that she can get cleaned up, and have some proper clothes.

At the inn, Colette tells us that she didn’t know that this town was Caister - she had been told that it was Kenkilly by the ship that had carried her and her entourage.

She was lied to about which town was which, basically, and - being from a completely different country - she had no idea.

Our money from Swadlin is still good in Everton, but almost all of the shopkeepers and merchants could pin us as tourists from our foreign currency.

Colette asks us to take her to Kenkilly, where Lord Hassan is supposedly supposed to be. Safety and strength in numbers, right?

Udaji - having been raised by an overprotective party of retired adventurers in a quiet, but populous, town - has no survival skills of her own.

For all intents and purposes, Colette is a Waterbender. 

Colette has a blue cloak that she tried to hide from the party, and took great care to dry and keep when changing clothes. It was a gift from her mother, meant to protect her.

When we set out the next morning, Colette rode with Astrid and got the tea (whether she wanted it or not) on the rest of the party.

“She has all the embarrassing stories on you, like what you do when you sleep.”/”Oh, no! She’s seen me cuddle my lute??”

Kenkilly is actually a small, rural village on the coast, rather than the larger city it had been made out to be in the letter to her family.

We track down some shady locals to try and get information, and we….are not subtle about it.

Between the Dragonborn, the Tiefling, two half-elves, a princess, and four dogs, we stand out quite a bit.

Matthias joined the shady people for a game of chance with dice, and won a bit of money, but no information.

Mountain joined in the betting, and Astrid is shit-talking both of them while Colette, Claus, and Udaji stand off to the side and watch.

Claus lasts about five minutes before he gives up trying to pretend we aren’t doing some shady BS and goes back to the inn to drink.

Mountain asks about the Crescent gang, but one guy asks for a bribe for his answer. Mountain tries to intimidate him, and fails miserably

Matthias also tried (and failed) to intimidate, but with Astrid’s help, the criminal was successfully intimidated.

Lord Hassan does indeed live in this town (or at least the castle nearby it), and he does not seem to be entirely well-liked by the people.

None of the complaints are super-bad, though….”trash day changes too much”, “the cost of living is too high”, “there’s too many damned foreigners-” Okay. Okay. We get the point.

“Udaji’s gonna look herself up and down from her boots to her flower crown and ask: “Do I look like a cop??’.”

“If we’re gonna ‘case this castle’, may I recommend not sending the Tiefling or the Dragonborn?”

Matthias goes out to scout, and finds out that Lord Hassan has ‘appointment times’ where he is available to the public - the next time being 2pm the next day.

He signs up the party for the 2pm meeting and comes back to the inn where the rest of us are waiting.

“I have been giving you guys tons and tons and TONS of money! You know you can spend it, right??”

The local armorer can upgrade our weapons with silver, but it would take two days, and we don’t expect to be in town that long...bummer.

I bought some new Studded Leather Armor for Udaji, sold her original Leather Armor, AND got it refined - my bby now has an AC of 16 now!

“Why do you still have all these rotten apples in your inventory?!”/”She’s fermenting them!”

Matthias’ player had him eat twenty rotten apples in one sitting just to spite the DM (their sister).

He then had to go throw up in the harbor.

So earlier, Matthias horribly embarrassed Astrid back in the alley, and now she’s refusing to talk to him.

Colette is confirmed for 19 and Udaji is still the baby of the party at 17.

The rest of the party is hanging out in the tavern, completely unawares, as Astrid yeets herself out a second story window to avoid talking to her father.

The innkeeper gave Udaji some alcohol, and Mountain casually stole it, drank it, and said “Underaged drinking is bad.”

Everyone goes around placing dinner orders at the inn and Udaji orders an entire chicken.

Astrid came back after brooding out in the wilderness for a few hours and we settled down to sleep.

Astrid steals a crown that Matthias had ‘found’ in an earlier session for Colette, arguing that “she’s actual royalty, and we’re going to talk to a Lord tomorrow, so we need to make the best impression”.

We also get a ‘glow-up’ montage as Astrid uses Matthias’ disguise kit to alter Colette’s appearance (bc if Lord Hassan really DID try to murder her, then walking straight back into his castle with no disguise would be a death sentence).

Still refusing to talk to her father, Astrid paid a very confused and slightly offended Colette to bring her breakfast in her room, just so she didn’t have to look at Matthias’ smug elven face.

Astrid also does not join us at the castle.

The Lord that we meet in the castle…..is NOT the same Lord that tried to kill Colette.

“It is kind of rude to show up for your scheduled appointment and just stand at the door, not saying anything.”

Colette storms past the party to demand an explanation of Lord Hassan, who is very unimpressed with this strange woman’s attitude.

“She’s a little upsetti spaghetti.”

Udaji’s soothing lute music saves the day again.

We tell the Lord that we are from the land of Swadlin, and were sent to investigate a series of deaths.

This Lord Hassan is a widower who is deeply faithful to his late wife and has no intentions of marrying again, and is VERY confused to hear that someone is using his name.

An advisor steps forward to take over the situation, and Matthias’ successful Insight roll gives him TERRIBLE vibes.

“He’s the kind of person whose teeth are too straight; too white.”

This advisor offered to pay us to investigate who was impersonating his Lord, and despite the bad vibes, Matthias agrees.

“Maybe DON’T intimidate the advisor while surrounded by guards.”

“He’s essentially offering you $7,000 EACH.”

We got sent off to investigate this impersonation of a Lord, and went back to the inn to try and shake off the Bad Vibes and calm Colette down.

Colette draws us a (rough) sketch of a frowning man with a pointed hairline and stiff moustache as the man who threw her off the bridge.

*two minutes of the DM (lovingly) insulting her cat in the background*

Colette says he was incredibly handsome, but Udaji just doesn’t see it.

We decide to try following the river upstream until we find a bridge that matches the one Colette was thrown off of.

Colette uses some of Matthias’ paper to write a letter to her parents, and asks Udaji to come with her to find a sailor to deliver it to her parents (for a modest fee).

The DM brought up the map and showed us the island of Mir, where Colette was from. It is a tiny dot out in the ocean, down in the far right bottom corner of the map. No wonder she needed to sail for two months!

“Matthias drinks one drink and then is blackout drunk.”/”Why do you think I have a kid?”

When we leveled up I took “Suggestion” as my next 2nd level spell, and I absolutely cannot wait to use it.

War, Journalism and Whistleblowers: 15 years after Katharine Gun's truth telling on the verge of the Iraq War

“15 years ago, as a GCHQ employee, Katharine Gun leaked a memo revealing US spying operations on UN security council members. This simple act of bravery helped to galvanise the mass movement of opposition to the Iraq War. It also served as a telling reminder of the essential role played by the press in speaking truth to power and upholding the fabric of democratic life. A generation on, the legacy of that leak is writ large in a resurgent politics of resistance to the warfare and surveillance state on both sides of the Atlantic. This unique event brings together a panel, including Katharine herself, to discuss the lessons of that leak, and ask: What can and should we be doing - journalists, scholars, activists, citizens, policymakers - to do justice to the immeasurable public service performed by whistleblowers?

Speakers include: Katharine Gun (former GCHQ linguist and analyst responsible for the 2003 leak); Thomas Drake (former senior executive of the US National Security Agency); Duncan Campbell (award winning journalist, author and TV producer); Matthew Hoh (former US Marine and State Department official serving in Afghanistan and Iraq); Jesselyn Radack (national security and human rights attorney representing Ed Snowden among other whistleblowers); Silkie Carlo (Director of Big Brother Watch and leading voice in the campaign against the UK's repressive surveillance and official secrecy laws). We will also be airing an exclusive video message from Dan Ellsberg who leaked the Pentagon Papers in 1971.”

Thoughts: This was easily the best event I’ve been to on this gap year so far (and i’ve been to A LOT). I had actually come in with no expectations and not much knowledge of whistleblowers or any of the speaker's, and I had decided to come based on curiosity and proximity of location. So I definitely didn’t expect to be so overwhelmed by how emotional and intense this night was. Hearing everyone’s stories (for the first time) was inspiring, and left a deep impression on me. And it was amazing to be in the company of the supportive community that was gathered there - people respect and believe in human rights and equality, and people who are dedicating their lives to putting forth the truth, who truly care and are fighting for a better world and future. The audience engagement was actually what made this night so emotional. When the third question was asked by a young woman, who was an Iraqi journalist, she began to cry when asking what she could do as a journalist to stop the destruction in her country. Katharine started crying as well, and said that she had failed. She cried several more times throughout. There was also an audience member at the end who about how he tried to blow the whistle at the UN, who has been chronically unemployed for 24 years since. Listening to the people talk about the consequences whistleblowing had for them, and the injustices they faced (Jesselyn had a miscarriage, chronic unemployment despite extremely qualified), there is also what they said about what we can all do, and it all felt very pessimistic, and I felt slightly overcome with a feeling of dread and despair. It was hard not to feel utterly depressed at the world / what I was hearing. But I think events like these are so important because they’re inspiring, and they lend support and renewed motivation and validation hopefully, for people who have blown the whistle and who may need the courage in the future. The solidarity between the panel members was palpable. And it was hard for me not to feel like tearing up when Tom Drake said that he wouldn’t be here with Jesselyn. Before this, I think I had taken for granted all the major whistleblowers I had heard about and what they had given for the public interest - Snowden, Wikileaks, Panama Papers, #metoo, NHS. I never thought much about the individuals themselves, and the toll this would take on them or the emotional resilience required. Really eye opening, and I hope to educate myself further about whistleblowers protections (which was barely touched on in my employment law module!), and to look for volunteering options where I can help.
