Escape
Tumblr media
13th Doctor & Reader (Platonic)
You needed to escape, everywhere and anywhere.
Little note here, The reader is implied to still be living with family and in their early twenties
478 Words
You wrote the little note down and placed it on your door, it was a simple note, one that read "I'll be back later" and you had texted The Doctor. You made sure to keep quiet while you waited for her. You knew she'd show up, whether it be an hour or so after your text.
You heard that familiar groan and you grabbed your bag, slinging it onto your shoulder, You had made a landing area for The TARDIS in your bedroom with a little mat incase she came bounding out covered in slime again. That was the worst clean up and the two of you having to explain the noise.
You watched as the box materialized and you barely even gave The Doctor any warning as you pushed the doors open. "Lets get out of here!"
You turned to close the door, your head turning to look over your shoulder to make sure The Doctor had listened to you. The Blond was hurriedly flipping switches and pulling the lever down. You let out a soft laugh before groaning. "I think I forgot my phone."
"Its in your pocket, kiddo."
You felt your pockets before feeling your phone and you smiled. "Thanks, Doc."
The Doctor looked over at you, raising a brow as she let The TARDIS drift along in space. "So, what are you running away from?"
You shrugged, moving to place your bag onto the floor of The TARDIS. "Nothing. Just got overwhelming, would rather be here with you and The Fam and Dan. Its a lot quieter, that's for sure."
The Doctor shook her head lightly, looking at you for a minute longer before gesturing to the door way deeper into The TARDIS. "Go on, go get settled. Don't forget to set your laptop up in case someone video calls you!"
You laughed as you listened to her, doing a mock salute. "Of course, mum."
The Doctor stilled and a smile crossed her face. "Yeah, yeah. Go on! I'll see if we can stop by one of your favorite places in time again? Maybe your favorite planet?"
"Sounds great, Doc! I'll be back in a couple of minutes." You called back to her and headed toward The TARDIS usually placed your room.
The Doctor fiddled with her console while she waited, making the flash decision to pick up the rest of The Fam, she knew you'd like to hang out with Yaz and Ryan, as they were close in your age range. She was pretty sure. Graham would follow in case Ryan needed him and then she could go pick up Dan, probably rescue him from getting kicked out of the Museum of Liverpool, although she could just tell the museum to let him keep doing tours.
The Doctor would always be there when you need to run, she'd always make sure of that.

thinking about rtd v chibs today, in terms of growth. when I realised that chibs had wrote my most upsetting torchwood ep, the finale to s2 where he brutally kills two characters, I was nervous for his dw conclusion. especially considering that in torchwood, tosh's death narratively serves only two purposes: to further the comparison for Owen, dying unfairly while she who had long pined for him dies too, like oh how tragic, these loves parted; and for shock value. Much like most of Tosh's character, she's often side-lined for others and never given as much depth as she should, and I always felt this extended to her death, which unlike Owen's felt cheap.
But in his dw finale, I felt like he had understood how to bring across great heart wrenching pain which served both of the characters perfectly. First, while the Doctor is killed technically, there's no brutal wow! shock! to it, and the same goes for Yaz's exit. Yaz is given agency in her ending, if not priority as her end was less 'guaranteed' (as in we always know the doctor will die, it's the whole point). The Doctor too is given time and respect to face the unfairness, and is allowed her own agency in how she meets it.
To compare to rtd: in a word, Donna. Donna's ending is honestly whip-lash, and there were so many ways to make it an actual tragedy, and not just shock value ending. Donna had to lose her memories, fine! But why reduce her back to what she feared the most, which is a cruel bitter taste for the audience. There could have been an idea where she could keep her growth, thinking she'd gone into volunteering and ending up helping people - oods could become refugees in her mind, the shadow proclamation becoming police or something. Something that would still be so sad and devastating, seeing a woman who was so bright unable to ever stand upon the universe again and declare it safe, but something where she would still get to be the person she'd become. This or something similar would be satisfying, whereas the reduction? it's cruel. It's a creator making a journey and then smushing it because it makes the doctor more upset.
I feel like this is the thing. Chibnall has grown as a writer across the years, but so far, what's been released for rtd's new era? he's literally going back, with the same doctor; the same companion; the same initials, look and age for his newer companion. even now, to the same series number. It doesn't give me faith in his ability to grow and change at all.

an attempt to summarise my TPOTD thoughts
YAZ/MANDIP:
mandip gill, i love you forever. her acting in the scene where thirteen's hand starts glowing? i will be haunted by that forever, congratulations. girl knows how to cry.
yasmin fucking khan, best companion. BEST companion. she saved the doctor, she got everyone together, she took the lead when she needed to, she piloted the TARDIS when it counted (the fact that she still had her post-it notes 🥺) she really became the doctor when the doctor was gone. loml.
yaz carrying the doctor will never ever stop being so amazing. ever. i'm convinced she kisses thirteen on the cheek also. fight me.
THASMIN:
SPEAKING OF KISSING. there was a noticeable lack of it. to be fair, it wasn't NECESSARY. i do think we, and they, deserved it though. also see this parallel? rude.
i can get over the no-kiss, eventually. i cannot get over the no hug!!!!!
and i ABSOLUTELY CAN NEVER GET OVER the fact that yaz wasn't allowed a proper reason to leave the TARDIS. you know how we've all been saying 'i can't see any reason for yaz to leave the TARDIS willingly', guess what, NEITHER CAN CHIBS!!!! 😭
but seriously, it didn't need much. all it needed was an extra 2 minutes of just thasmin and i'd have nothing bad to say about this episode.
if they'd just added a couple of minutes at the end of yaz explaining to the doctor how much she loves her (onto that in a minute) but how she doesn't feel like she can stay when she'll look at 'MY doctor' and see someone else, especially after the master thing.
MORE THASMIN:
so, i'm actually quite pleased with what thirteen said to yaz. the 'my hearts are so full of love of all of you' was a bit like,,,, yes i know the fam need a shout-out but don't be scared BBC, she's allowed to just love yaz too. same with 'and she is loved', like always it has to be from the fam, not just from yaz.
however, the next line, 'i have loved being with you, yaz' was BRILLIANT. that's the closest we're gonna get for a while to the doctor actually saying 'i love you' and i think yaz understands that too.
what i DIDN'T like was the fact that it didn't go 'i have loved being with you, yaz' 'i love you too, bighead' or something similar. because yaz never got to tell the doctor her feelings. dan did a great job, sure, but she never got to vocalise them, and i wish she did.
sure, she spent the whole episode DEMONSTRATING that she loves the doctor, arguably the whole last 3 seasons. but i wish she'd got to say the words. the opportunity was right there.
REGEN:
the regeneration was beautiful. again, same as with thasmin. what we were given was 10/10, BUT we should have been given a bit more!!! thirteen deserved a slightly longer speech, i don't think it necessarily had to be super long, but maybe a little more than what she got.
her last line was perfect though. i wouldn't change a thing. 'doctor whoever-i-am-next. tag, you're it.' PERFECT thirteen.
her regeneration's tone kept in-line with the past too. the doctor growing up. from ten's 'i don't want to go' to eleven accepting it but being very very sad, to twelve using it as an opportunity to shape his next self, to thirteen not only accepting it, bu embracing it. seeing one last sunrise. taking it as something beautiful. because it was.
CLASSIC STUFF:
THE RETURNING DOCTORS WERE PERFECT. i was worried they wouldn't be able to find a natural way to put returning characters in and it would feel clunky, but it was flawless.
i'd heard rumours about five, six, and seven, but one and eight were totally unexpected. paul mcgann, national treasure. plus jo martin!!!!! she wasn't there for long but it was very her, very badass, plus i loved the fact that it was yaz's idea (more on that later too)
returning companions also, damn. i was not expecting that at all. when i saw graham i was like 'ahhh so this is their big surprise, i'll pretend to be shocked, ahhhhh' BUT THEN. i loved it.
CATBOY RASPUTIN:
ok, it's been long enough. it is time to talk about the master.
flawless. perfect. i genuinely would not change a thing about it. (for now at least, maybe i will when i think about it more)
the rasputin dance break was iconic. there was no need for it. but it was there. it was glorious. i can never listen to rasputin again.
i almost don't care that we didn't get the next doctor in thirteen's outfit, because sacha dhawan in that outfit, earring and all, was spectacular. honestly, brilliant. i didn't think they'd go there but they did.
the concept of the master regenerating into the doctor. o o f . there's some very clever things to be said and meta to be written about that, but i don't have the brainpower rn, so hopefully someone else will.
i will admit, when sacha regenerated into the doctor, my brain immediately went 'fuck, no, we're gonna have a lot less jodie screentime now', but honestly it was okay. the scenes of her with classic doctors plus the hologram stuff made sure she was still around enough.
CATBOY MASTER. ENOUGH SAID.
MISCELLANEOUS OTHER THOUGHTS:
ace and seven getting closure!!!!! yay!!!!!!
the adric mention and 'brave heart, tegan' was lovely
the fact that yaz said to ruth 'the last time i saw you, you were a tour guide in gloucester' was funny. but, it means something quite sad really. the doctor never told her about the timeless child stuff, or division. or if she did, she left out some major details. the end of the vanquishers is one of my favourite scenes, and it's sad that they didn't give her the chance to follow through with 'i want to tell you everything'. but who knows, if big finish wants to give us that one day, i'll be happy.
the hands in the 'you saved my life' scene. stunning. there was no need for the glass though. let them touch BBC it's okay.
yaz carrying the doctor. yeah, i've said it already, but that scene was genuinely stunning.
the doctor seeing yaz's face, smiling, and closing her eyes. she should have said 'my yaz', paralleling the 'my fam' at the end of S12, but sure. in my head, she said it.
thirteen being trapped in the dalek!!!!!!! the clara parallels!!!!!!!!!!!!! when they said 'open the casing' a good 78% of me was going 'cLARA CLARA CLARA CLARA CLARA' but yeah. i liked that.
i realise i haven't said much about jodie (that's a first) and honestly i have nothing more to say that i haven't already said. how can anyone feel anything but love for her. she and mandip are brilliant. easily my favourite actors ever. easily.
they should have kissed man, chibnall you fucking coward.
to summarise: what we got was perfect. i mean, genuinely. like, every scene of that episode, i adored. but there was a 2 minute scene missing. a two minute scene, my version of which i will probably write at some point as i'm sure lots of us will, where yaz explains why she can't stay. they hug, they kiss, they reminisce, and they part.
i liked that they ended on 'let's not say goodbye' though. leaves it open for a yaz return, plus, VERY doctor of her to hate endings, to hate goodbyes. yaz's doctorification came full-circle and it was magnificent.
once again, mandip gill, WHERE did you learn to cry like that.
overall? solid 8.7/10. i can't forgive yaz not getting her proper exit. but i did enjoy what we got. and i miss them and i want them back. she's yaz's doctor, but she's our doctor too.

SPOILER warning also I think a lot of people saw E2 now.
How do you think will Yaz death affect the relationship between Nik and Tyler in E3? I would bet this will be a thing. Nik lost somebody she loved. They won’t ignore that. She will definitely struggle with it and could maybe blame Tyler for it? Would love to hear your thoughts.
Hi!
I think it could and should go both ways you mentioned. Tyler and Nik only have each other now. This is why Nik is even more protective of him. She followed him to the church to save his butt despite him running off to save her.
But she could also feel resentment toward him to some degree because Yaz died not necessarily because of him directly but because he didn't tell them the whole truth. It's Tyler's propensity to self-sabotage at display, really.
I don't think Nik directly blames Tyler. It's more of a subconscious thing that might come out at the worst possible time in E3. I want it to be this way - that she'd be super protective of him while holding resentment toward him for Yaz. It would be so great!

Can you do a Doctor 13th fic with prompts 34,8, and 9. I was hoping to see a jealous reader fic that is jealous of Yaz and the doctor makes a promise to take the reader to Venice but instead the doctor breaks the promise on the day they agree and starts hanging out with yaz which makes the reader jealous and upset. Your fics are great btw keep up the great work.
Hey, sorry this took so long. It's been busy recently. I know this isn't my best work but I really needed to get it out. Again I apologise.
Warning: none
Plot: ^^^^
13th doctor x reader
Tumblr media
They were doing it again. I watched from the steps of the console room, as the doctor and Yaz stood there laughing. It almost physically hurt to watch them be so friendly. Hands touching, falling into each other. What I'd give to be Yaz, just for one day. To have the doctors attention. Then again, she wasn't mine so my jealousy was utterly stupid.
"Oh (y/n), how long have you been there?" Looking up, yaz smiled at me, coming to stand at the bottom of the steps. I just shrugged, redirecting my attention to one of the pillars. Taken aback by my response, the doctor whispered to her and she ran off quickly.
"What's wrong?" She asked, taking a seat beside me. There was no way to word it without being obviously.
"Just, feels like you spend more time with yaz than me." I told her honestly, playing with my fingers. The blonde shifted slightly, nodding her head.
"Feels like I'm not needed at times."
"Hey! No. That's not true at all. You know what? We're gonna go on a trip tomorrow. Just the two of us." Eyes lighting up, I turned to her with a grin on my face.
"Really?" She jumped up and smiled down at me.
"I'll take you to Venice in the late twentieth century. Beautiful little city, you'll love it." Now extremely excited, I bobbed my head and stood myself up. Maybe I'd been worrying for nothing?
"Go get some rest, alright?" I agreed and bid her goodnight, before heading off to my room. A new hope was there for me now.
When I say I made myself dizzy with how fast I got ready, I'm not lying. Tying up my shoes, I grabbed my jacket and head for the console room. No one was there, that was odd. The doctor was always there, so where was she? Dropping my coat to the side, I began to wander through the corridors in search of the blonde. She wasn't in the kitchen, or pool room, or the trampoline room. Eventually, I found myself at the library and pushed thr door open. Of course, I found them, both. The doctor and yaz were sat on the sofa, laughing again. The younger had her head on the others shouting. The doctor was holding her arm. When the door creaked, they snapped their heads towards me, still smiling. Thinking that the doc would see me, get up and do as she'd promised; it hurt in my heart when she looked confused.
"You look nice, going somewhere?" Digging my nails into my palms, I pressed my lips together and shook my head.
"No." With that, I turned on my heel and ran for my room. I slammed my door shut and sat on the bed. Why was I still here at this point? It was clear, I was the third wheel.
"Hey, why did you run off?" The doctor burst in without knocking, just irking me more.
"Doesn't matter."
"Yes it does. You look really upset. Have I done something?" Slowly, I turned my head towards her and scoffed. Standing up, I stalked over and glared up at the blonde.
"Have you done something? Seriously?" She just blinked at me, not knowing what to sat.
"That's what I asked, yeah." My jaw shook, how could she be this oblivious? That forgetful? Was I really that unimportant?
"Does twentieth century Venice ring a bell doctor?" Her face drained of colour as she slowly came to the realisation.
"Oh. I'm sorry (y/n). We can still go if you like?" Shaking my head, I turned away from her. I couldn't do this anymore.
"No. You go have your little play dates with yaz. I'm sure she's missing you." I spat, probably too aggressive but I didn't care at this point.
"Excuse me?"
"You heard! Go away!" For a second, she was silent and I thought she'd actually listened. Until her hand landed on my shoulder to spin me back round.
"Why are you so upset?" Tears rolled down my cheeks, it hurt even seeing her.
"You promised me! And you forgot. Because of her." I stuttered out, rubbing my face harshly. The doctor shook her head, trying to find the right words to say. But I doubted there was any at this point.
"Do you trust me?" Eyes trailing over her face, she was looking at me desperately and I just shrugged.
"I dont know anymore." I could practically see her whole demeanor change, she bowed her head in shame. What worried me is when her shoulders began shaking.
"Doctor?"
"I can never do anything right, can I? I don't know how to handle these emotions. So what do I do? Ask yaz. Where does that land me? With me hurting you! I can't..." she trailed off, biting down on her lips to supress her sadness. The doctor sat on my bed, putting her head in her hands.
"The last person I let myself love was...and I got her stuck on some parallel world. Now I've driven you away." Taking a seat beside her, I placed my hand on her back.
"What?"
"I just wanted advice. I didn't want to mess it up." The doctor croaked out, tears dripping onto her lap. Nothing she was saying made sense though, but it hurt to see her so sad. Even if I felt forgotten, I didn't want to see her like this.
"Advice on what?"
"You! How to ask you out. How to be romantic. What you like. What you want. All I wanted from yaz, was how to get you to be mine." Her outburst caught me off guard and I found myself blushing at her words.
"This morning I went to her, asking how to impress you on our trip to Venice. She started teasing me about my feelings and I got distracted." Looking up at me slowly, she smiled sadly.
"I didn't forget. I promise. I could never forget about you." More tears rolled down her cheeks, breaking my heart in the process. Lifting my hand, I wiped them away carefully.
"Doctor. All you ever had to do was be yourself."
"Really?" She stuttered, hope hidden in her eyes. Humming, I gave her a small smile. I shuffled closer and cupped her cheeks.
"All I ever want is to spend time with you. I want to be with you and it always felt like you wanted yaz." Immediately, the doctor frowned, not liking what she was hearing. Casting my eyes down, I let out a breath.
"I understood, why would you want me over her?" She gripped my shirt in her fists, tugging me closer, which caught me off guard.
"You're brilliant. The most amazing human I've met."
"You mean that?"
"I can prove it." The doctor mumbled, pulling me in and placing her lips against mine. After the initial shock subsided, I kissed back; srns finding their way around her neck.
"You see?" She mumbled against my lips, hands moving to cup my cheeks. Nodding, I smipered and pecked her lips repeatedly until she began laughing.
"Alright you. I do believe I owe you a trip?"
"Indeed. I was quite looking forward to Venice." The doctor beamed, grabbing my hand and my coat with the other.
"Oh and (y/n)?" Looking at her in question, she gave me a genuine smile.
"Know that yaz will never get in the way of us okay?" Placing a kiss to her cheek, I grinned.
"I know, doctor. I trust you."

spoilery thoughts for dw se3
under the cut because this got obscenely long
disappointed that rose/rose's toys weren't a bigger part of the episode. i really thought the toymaker was going to be connected to the woman in abu dhabi who was buying her stuff.
the otherdimensional shop thing was great. my partner liked that part a lot.
donna noble is a gem & i love her. i wish she'd gotten to meet thirteen. seeing them be best mates together would fix me i think
kate lethbridge stewart i am free on thursday. ma'am. also you can pay me 120k a year and give me five weeks holiday. please.
idk if i like unit being so fancy and funded? I feel like its best when its a weird greasy little secret thing. also i miss the oswins. not that they were really in the secret greasy era, but they weren't in fucking. avengers tower.
love shirley. fave. best girl.
i have never actually watched old who but love mel. gave me enough to go on that i didn't feel lost and she seems fun.
the puppet show was great i wanna see a whole behind the scenes and closeups on the companion puppets (sad we didn't get a yaz puppet but she didn't even technically die so i guess that didn't fit his narrative)
the rose petal guns were gorgeously campy. not quite as fabulous as ra ra rasputin but up there.
THATS THE HAND FROM THE PREVIOUS SIMMMASTER BIT WITH THE RING. WHAT. (the rani?? I am Watching)
"niece" "brotherinlaw" adorable.
overall i liked the episode a lot pre-regeneration
THE REGENERATION PART 1: NCUTI GATWA
okay. ultimately i can't be too mad because I got to watch ncuti gatwa run around in his undershorts for several minutes. damn. okay. i am watching.
incredibly gay for the way he called tennantdoctor baby and kissed him. love that. (i Will be checking ao3 for other's thoughts on this.)
again. mr ncuti is a gorgeous gorgeous man. and he is Fun! i like him! he is Fun to watch! his Doctor seems like a Fun person to travel the universe with.
but.
I think perhaps the Doctor needs to be a little fucked up. like if my actual real life friends were carrying around the destruction of worlds and the loss of dear companions i would tell them to take a break. but this is the Doctor. put them in Situations and let them get Fucked Up about it. I don't know if i am going to like this Doctor who has been to therapy or whatever.
THE REGENERATION PART 2: HOW IT HAPPENED
I didn't like it! i am not calling it b*generation its stupid. sorry.
let tennantdoctor die if he's not going to straight regenerate. or make him human, like tentoo. or get rid of the tardis so he's not just—another doctor.
"this is the doctor he's the most important guy in all time and space he saved so many lives oops we doubled him!" like he's not going to want to go right back out there. it worked for tentoo bc he's in another dimension. this guy is in london having brunch.
what's to stop him from popping up in every present-day episode with gatwa's doctor? like, I *get* why. but on a watsonian level we are in "well where were the other avengers when x-and-such-happened." territory. stupid. i hate it.
its dumb enough gatwa isn't fourteen. now fourteen and fifteen are present at the same time? dumb. i will be a hater on this. let gatwa have the stage all on his own.
overall! mostly good episode, regeneration stuff was not my favorite, but i had fun watching it.
I think my favorite episodes are the spooky inbetween ones, or the ones that feel the most monster-of-the-week. satan pit, blink, time heist, stuff like that. i think wild blue yonder is up there for me. finale/ending stuff is harder to get me on, but this didn't do too badly overall, and did well for what it was.
p. s. why doesn't martha get a tennantdoctor to retire with. rose and donna each get one.

Riverrosetober 2023- Day 7, Prompt: Home
THE WOMAN WHO FELL TO EARTH- TARDIS INSIDE, 13 HAS FALLEN
Rose hit the side of the TARDIS walls, she twisted and grabbed onto the railing. Somewhere to her right was River who had slammed into the console and gripping onto the controls for her life, she may have regained more regeneration cycles but she did not want to regenerate right after her husband-wife. Especially in the TARDIS which had just dealt with their regeneration. She and Rose had been scolding him for holding it back, but when he got into one of those depressive states. Gods, there wasn't a whole lot they could do.
Eventually the shaking of the TARDIS stopped, though she kicked the two of them out of the console room. Which was more then fine with the two of them for the moment because despite both of their superior biology's (Rose shivered, that sounded far too much like her husband-wife. Blimey, that'd take some getting used to.) being that close to a regeneration, especially one that's part of a fresh set... best they go to the Med Bay and make sure neither of them are injured, and then when that's finished they can go and see what their lovely girl has come up with for a new console.
Earth- 2018, Sheffield
"-oh! And I need to get back to my Rose and my River. Ooh, will they still like me?" 13 looked down at her body, then quickly looked into the microwave that she was using to help locate the TARDIS. She was quite short in this body, shorter then she'd been in others. Her eyes flicked up to her hair, she rather liked it-though she was afraid that Rose might say she stole hers.
Standing back up and spinning to face the three humans that stood nearby she had a grin on her face, "Right! One... Two... Three!" she used her makeshift sonic, for a moment nothing happened and then-she was floating in deep space. The Doctor sighed, then panicked, looked, and saw Yaz, Graham, and Ryan nearby. "Fuck."
TARDIS Interior
Carefully Rose rose from the table and stretched, full body scans were a nuisance. She turned towards River, "So? Anything abnormal with me?"
"Nope. According to the scans you are perfectly fine-well, as much as you ever are. Your cell degradation has slowed down some more, so your life expectancy has increased more."
"Great," she swung her legs off the table, looking down at her outfit, "New clothing time?"
River sighed, "New clothing time indeed. And perhaps some chips?"
Rose perked up, "hmmm, how about fishfingers with custard?"
"...sure, you can have custard with it, just, when the Doctor is back- please don't give any to them."
"Why not? They liked it perfectly fine in their eleventh body."
"Rose."
"Ok, ok! I won't... while you can see anyways."
"What was that last bit, Darling?"
"Nothing! Now, food-then outfits. And then we check out the console room."
THE GHOST MONUMENT- end of episode with 13
"Ohh! Oh, yes! C'mon, come to mama!" 13 has a manic grin on her face she called out to the TARDIS trying to stabilize her. Finally she succeeded.
Rushing over to pulled the doors wide open, and suddenly, almost reverently she walked in. Turning to look around, "oh, you've redecorated. I quite like it."
"You better since you're the reason she had to change desktops."
The Doctor spun, eyes landing on one of her wives, "Rose!" she rushed over and lifted her wife into a hug before setting her down. Then she noticed something was wrong, she had to look up. And at that realization she sighed, and Rose giggled.
Hesitantly, the Doctor stepped back. Suddenly self-conscious, what if they didn't like her now?
Apparently she had voiced that concern aloud and was being reprimanded, by River. "-d you absolute idiot! Of course we love you. Now- we are going to get you to the zero room and you are going to stay until your fully done regenerating. Don't think I don't see the wisps still circling."
Somehow she ended being led away by River, and Rose turned to the three people nearby. She sighed before shaking her head, "Would you like a 'cuppa?"
Yaz nodded, with Graham not for behind, but Ryan asked if he could have coffee. To which Rose simply smiled, "'course you can." and that was that.

Episode 5 has me inconsolable I just wanted Yaz and Steven to get their date 😭😭😭 what do you think it would have looked like it they did manage to?
Tumblr media
Not going to lie, Steven would be sweating from the second he got to the restaurant at least fifteen minutes early
He’d then be checking his phone every thirty seconds or so just to make sure she didn’t send him a message to cancel
He doesn’t have to wait long as Yaz shows up five minutes before their original meeting time
Steven has basically only ever seen her in work clothes and while she'd never been one to dress shabby, seeing her in full make up, heels and a cute dresses literally forces the breath from his lungs
Yaz notices and can't help but feel a little more confident in herself; she had tried five different outfits and re-applied her make up more times than she is willing admit before finally forcing herself out the door
Once the initial shock wears off, Steven would finally manage to connect his brain to his mouth just managing to tell her she looks...wow, before pulling out her chair so she can sit down
He then rather awkwardly gives her the flowers he picked up
He then starts talking, and then he can't stop talking; all the excited, pent up energy he'd been carrying all day just pours out in rambles he can't get control of
Yaz quickly realizes he's spiraling, and reaches across the table to take his hand: "Steven, it's just me," she tells him.
Steven then pauses, his eyes softening as he just looks at her a minute, "Yeah. It's you."
He catches the shy expression on her face and suddenly he isn't so scared; she is here and just as nervous as he is
He gives himself a second to breath and asks if he can start over
From there the date goes great
They talk like they've always done, except now, Steven can tell her how he feels and vice versa; they each get a little bolder in their compliments and looks as the evening goes on, only leaving when they realize the kitchen is closed and everybody else has gone home
Steven offers to walk her home, and Yaz is all to quick to say yes
As they walk, Steven's hand ends up slipping into hers, he asks her if that's alright and she tells him it is
They reach her place before either of them want to and stand for a second on the doorstep
Steven suggests that next time they can maybe check out one of the new exhibits from an art gallery not far away
Yaz smiles, asking him, "you want their to be a next time?"
"I want there to be a few next times," Steven confesses. "As many next times as you can give me."
"I'll hold you to that" she tells him.
Neither is sure who moves first, but in the next moment, their lips meet in a gentle kiss
Yaz pulls away first, whispering good night before stepping back
Steven manages a nod, watching her as she walks up the up the short flight of steps and goes inside
He can't help himself. The second the door closes he lets out laugh, spinning himself around in elation his chest lighter then ever; he kissed her, he bloody kissed her and she want to go on another date
Yaz isn't much better, the second the door closes behind her, she lets out her own laugh, grinning like an idiot as she all but skips to the lift
They were getting a second date, and with luck, plenty after

When I Run Away (You're Who I Run To): Chapter 30
main post read on ao3
Word Count (Chapter): 2,720
NOTES: didn't post yesterday because i was traveling. wrote the last bit of this on the train, so if it doesn't make any sense we can blame amtrak. but i hope i've done the ending justice! will hopefully be writing/posting an epilogue for next week :)
They were still there the next morning, all three curled together in Penny’s bed. It took Yaz a couple seconds to process the light in the room, dimmer than in Rose’s, and a couple more to remember why, exactly, she was in a different place. The previous day had been dedicated entirely to rest and recovery after the confrontation in the bakery, with both Ace and Donna showing up with plenty of baked goods in the afternoon, and then Yaz and Rose had figured the best way to fulfill their promise was to stay with Penny overnight. Penny had offered the living room sofa to Ace, too, so she wouldn’t have to spend the night alone—Yaz suspected, too, that Penny was looking for whatever community, whatever semblance of family, she could find.
It was nice, Yaz thought now, as she stretched out as much as she could without disturbing Penny’s head on her chest—it was nice to be so under the same roof as so many people she cared about. She hadn’t expected it, when she and Rose had opened their shop. But it was nice.
Penny stirred, and on instinct Yaz lifted a hand to smooth down her hair. Penny mumbled something and rolled over, sprawling across a snoring Rose. With a quiet laugh, Yaz decided maybe that was her cue to get up: she extricated herself with great care and padded barefoot into the kitchen. Ace was already gone, the fold-out couch folded right back up with sheets and pillows neatly stacked next to it, but Donna was sitting at the table, holding a mug in both hands.
“Good morning,” she said when Yaz came in. “Early riser?”
Yaz shrugged. “Earlier than those two.”
“I’ve never figured it out,” Donna said. “When there’s no work to be worrying about, you can’t get Penny out of bed if your life depends on it. But whenever she’s on shift, she’s up at six and more cheerful than anyone should be about it.” She paused. “‘Course, she naps through the afternoon, half the time. Anyway, d’you want some coffee?”
“Sure,” Yaz said. “Thanks.”
“No problem.” Donna got up and started moving around the kitchen. “Made the whole pot, ‘cause I knew you lot were around. ‘Course, Ace already got to it—not that she really needs much in the way of caffeine—but still, plenty to go ‘round.” She handed Yaz a mug. “Milk or sugar?”
Yaz shook her head. “Thanks,” she said again. She took a chair, sipping at her coffee and settling into the morning. She glanced at Donna, trying to figure out what to say; it dawned on her that she hadn’t really spent much time with Donna without Penny present. “You’re not working today?”
Donna shook her head. “Graham and Ace have things covered,” she said.  “Thought I’d be more useful up here.”
“You’re probably right.” Yaz glanced back at the hall, towards where Penny and Rose were still asleep.
“That’s if she wakes up before the bakery closes,” Donna added.
Yaz smiled. There was another silence, this one longer.
“Did you ever meet Penny’s mum?” Yaz finally blurted, mostly to fill the silence. “Before this, I mean.”
“Nah. Only met her after she'd run away.” Donna sipped her coffee. “Probably for the better. Might've ripped her head off, if I'd met her at sixteen.”
Yaz laughed. “We're lucky Ace held back.”
Donna grimaced. “How long after the traumatic event do you think I have to wait before I have the no explosives in the shop conversation with Penny?”
“Not with Ace?”
“Nah, I think she got the message. It's Penny who let her bring them to begin with.”
Yaz hummed. “I might give it a couple days. Special circumstances.”
“Suppose so.” Donna eyed Yaz. “You and Rose—you care about her, do you?”
Yaz felt her cheeks heat up. She didn’t trust herself to say anything; she just raised her eyebrows, hiding her mouth behind her mug.
“It’s nice to see,” Donna added. She hesitated. “She puts up a good show, but she doesn’t really get out much. Even before all this.”
Yaz nodded. “That doesn’t really surprise me,” she said. She sipped her coffee, turning the mug nervously in her hands. “Glad she made it to our shop, though.”
Donna smiled. “Me too.” And then, with a raise of her eyebrows—”You’d better not hurt her.”
“Would never,” Yaz said, without a second thought. “Cross my heart.”
Before Donna could reply, Yaz heard a sound behind her. She turned her head to see Penny, still in her oversized sleep shirt, her hair flattened at one side of her face.
“Oh,” she said. “You’re here.” Without another word, she dropped into Yaz’s lap, curling up with her head against Yaz’s shoulder. Yaz wrapped an arm around her on instinct.
“All right?” she asked.
Penny nodded into her shoulder. “Sorry,” she said. “Was just here to get some water. In theory anyway.”
“I’ve got it.” Donna stood and moved to the sink.
“Thanks. Forgot how tired I was.”
“Until you saw a nice comfy seat?” Yaz teased.
“Yeah.” There wasn’t a trace of irony in Penny’s voice.
Over the top of Penny’s head, Yaz caught Donna’s eye. They exchanged a smile, and Donna set down a full glass of water on the table. Yaz poked Penny.
“D’you want to go back to bed?” she asked. “It’ll be softer.”
Penny shifted, lifting her head. “Yeah, all right.”
Yaz prodded Penny until she slid off Yaz’s lap. Yaz stood and reached to pick up the glass, but Penny took it first; within seconds, all the water was gone. Yaz stared.
“Thanks,” Penny said to Donna. “Very refreshing.” She took the arm Yaz offered, and they went back to the bedroom together. Rose was still fast asleep, her hair spread across the pillow; Penny brushed it aside so she wouldn’t lie on it. Yaz resumed her position on Penny’s other side, although she didn’t lie all the way down; she didn’t really feel like going back to sleep, and considering she’d just had a cup of coffee, she didn’t think she’d be able to if she tried. Instead, she pulled out her phone and started tapping at a puzzle game. When she looked back over at Penny, she was already asleep.
Yaz sat there for the next hour or so, enjoying the coziness of an early morning spent in bed, next to people she cared about. Eventually, Rose began to stir, and Yaz looked over just as Rose’s eyes fluttered open. She smiled when she saw Yaz.
“Morning.”
Yaz smiled back. “Sleep all right?”
“Never better.” Rose pushed herself into a sitting position, a difficult maneuver when Penny’s arm was flung across her. But Penny, still dead asleep, didn’t seem to notice when Rose lifted her arm and laid it across her legs. Rose looked down at her. “Blimey, she can sleep.”
“She woke up around when I did,” Yaz said. “Not permanently.”
Rose nodded. And then she sighed, tipping her head back until it hit the wall. “I’ve just remembered we’ve got to open the shop again tomorrow.”
With everything that had happened in the last week, tattooing felt like a distant dream. “It’s going to be busy, too,” Yaz said. “To make up for last week.”
Rose groaned. “Maybe we just stay here,” she said. “Hide out. Forever.”
“You wouldn’t enjoy that,” Yaz said. “You like running the shop.”
“Ugh, whatever.” But Rose was smiling. “Suppose we’d better make the most of today.”
Yaz nodded.
“Making the most of today,” it turned out, involved spending most of the morning in bed, exchanging quiet conversation and trying not to disturb Penny. Eventually, Yaz went down to the bakery to get food for breakfast, under the assumption that no one would really want to deal with finding anything in the flat. As always, Ace greeted her brightly at the counter, and Yaz picked out breakfast sandwiches, muffins, and pastries for herself, Rose, Penny, and Donna.
“No coffee?” Ace asked.
Yaz shook her head. “Sorry,” she said. “You’re being outdone by the machine upstairs. More convenient.”
“Suppose I’ll have to find a way to cope.” Ace passed Yaz the stuffed paper bag with a grin. “Tell the professor I said hi! Rose and Donna too, I suppose.”
“I’ll do that.”
By the time Yaz got back upstairs, Rose, Penny, and Donna were all in the kitchen, Donna and Rose in chairs, Penny lying flat on the floor.
“Got up too soon,” she said at Yaz’s quizzical look. “Got to compensate.”
“Don’t suppose a muffin would help,” Yaz said.
Penny sat up. “D’you know, I think it might.”
Yaz dropped a banana chocolate chip muffin into her hand, and she fell right back on the floor again, biting into the muffin. A second later, she coughed and rolled onto her side.
“You all right?” Rose asked.
“Right as rain,” Penny said, although she was still coughing a little. “Forgot how uncomfortable it is to eat lying down. Shame, too, when otherwise lying down is so nice.”
“I dunno,” Rose said. “I always sort of drop my phone flat on my face when I’m lying down.”
“Another drawback,” Penny acknowledged. “Still, though.” But she pushed herself up on her elbow to take another bite of her muffin. Yaz watched, not realizing she had a goofy smile plastered on her face until she saw Donna looking at her out of the corner of her eye. Heat rushed into her cheeks, and she grabbed a breakfast sandwich and took a hasty bite.
Her attempt to cover was for nothing, though: when they were all done eating, Donna made a flimsy excuse about needing to check in on the bakery, leaving Yaz, Rose, and Penny on their own.
For a long moment, everyone was silent. The air felt thick in Yaz’s lungs. They’d agreed, last night, that they’d talk tomorrow, and this was tomorrow, and they did need to talk, but Yaz had no idea what to say.
Fortunately, Rose always seemed to know what to say. She slid from her chair onto the ground, flopped onto her back next to Penny, and said, “Right, so we probably ought to address the great big elephant in the room, yeah?”
“Oh, I love elephants,” Penny said. “Wish there were an elephant in the room. I’d take good care of it, I would.”
Yaz looked around. They were still in the kitchen area—she wasn’t sure it was even as big as an elephant. “Not in here, you wouldn’t.”
“Killjoy.”
Rose snapped her fingers. “Oi! Not the point!”
“All right, all right.” Penny waved a hand. “Metaphorical elephants only.”
“Thank you.” Rose took a deep breath. “Look, near as I can tell, there’s not even that much to talk about, is there? It’s not that complicated. Penny and me like each other, Penny and Yaz like each other, me and Yaz are dating. Saying it doesn’t need to change much.”
Yaz thought about it. She’d sort of expected to feel more discombobulated at the idea that, mere weeks after she’d accepted she was into women to begin with, she would want to be dating two of them—but it didn’t feel all that discombobulating. If anything, it felt natural. It was just right. Rose slotted so well into her life, and Penny did too.
“Yeah,” she said to Rose. She thought about it for another second, thought about spending more time with Penny, going on dates, hanging out in the bakery, and she felt her chest grow warm, and she added, “Only good changes.”
“I’ll take good changes,” Penny said. “Oh!” She sat straight up, but moments later fell heavily back on her elbows. “Does good changes mean we’re dating? Are you my girlfriends? Am I your girlfriend? I’ve never been a girlfriend before.”
Rose and Yaz exchanged a grin.
“That’s a yes from me,” Yaz said.
“Yeah, I’ll give it a go.” Rose was bordering on giddy now, and she wasn’t the only one.
“Oh, brilliant.” Penny’s smile was electric. She darted over and planted a kiss on Rose’s cheek, and then she practically jumped to her feet and did the same to Yaz, her warm lips pressing against Yaz’s skin for half a second before she fell to the ground again. “Oh. Still not ready to be up yet.”
“Or you could be up a little slower,” Yaz suggested, laughing. She reached out an arm, and Penny took it, pulling herself slowly to her feet.
“I like moving fast,” she grumbled. “Moving fast is nice. I miss when it didn’t make my head all spinny.”  But then her grin was back, and she was turning back to Rose and saying, “Hey, we’ve still got half a season of that soap left to watch, don’t we?”
Yaz made a big show of groaning, and Rose laughed.
“Shut up,” she said. “You love it really.”
“You’ll never get me to admit it,” Yaz replied. Still, she stood up, holding out an arm to Penny. Instead of taking it, Penny wiggled into it, wrapping the arm around her waist and reaching her own arm out for Rose.
“Bit dramatic for a trip to the sofa, isn’t it?” Rose asked, even as she stood and let Penny pull her in.
“Oh, but I’ve got to have my girlfriends with me,” Penny said brightly, and Yaz and Rose both laughed as the three of them made their way over to the sofa.
When Donna came back half an hour later, she found them piled on top of each other, engaged in a bitter argument about whether or not they’d seen one of the one-off actresses before in one of the other shows Rose liked. Penny insisted she was the same, but Rose was sure she was different, and Yaz, who didn’t remember the other show all that well, was feeding both arguments whenever she felt like it, mostly for her own entertainment. She caught Donna’s eye for a brief second; Donna just shook her head and said, “You know, Ace and Graham have a bet going on about you three.”
Yaz scoffed. “What, again?”
“What’re the stakes?” Penny asked.
“Twenty quid.”
“What’s it on?” Rose asked.
“Ace thinks the three of you are—how’d she put it?—in deep gay love. Graham isn’t convinced.” Donna raised her eyebrows. “Something tells me he’s going to be paying up.”
“Might be a little soon to be saying things like deep gay love,” Rose pointed out.
Donna shrugged. “Don’t ask me. I’m just the messenger.” She paused. “But I’m getting the sense that maybe the messenger ought to leave you three alone for a bit. If you’re all right, Penny.”
“I’m brilliant.” Penny beamed. “Don’t worry about me.”
“All right, then,” Donna said. “I’ll be downstairs.” She disappeared out the door, and Yaz settled back into the sofa, doing her best not to jostle Penny’s head against her chest.
At the end of the day, nothing really had changed, and that was what was so lovely. Very literally, at the end of the day Yaz asked if Penny wanted to come sleep in their flat above the tattoo shop, since they did need to actually open it tomorrow, and Penny agreed on the condition she could hang out in the waiting room and terrorize the customers, which Yaz and Rose agreed to immediately. And Ace was sitting in the living room when they got in, throwing animated bombs at animated cars, and when she saw them she paused the game and leaned forward and asked, “Was I right?” and Yaz rolled her eyes and Penny said, “’Course you were right.” And then she started asking Ace about the bombs, and Ace explained she’d almost narrowed down the materials, but it was hard because they were video game bombs and obviously not intended to be made in real life. Not that she was going to make them, of course, but—Yaz started cooking around that point, so she didn’t really catch the rest of the conversation, but the chatter in the background kept a smile on her face. And she ate with Rose and Penny and Ace, and fell asleep crammed into a too-small bed with two people she loved, and nothing had changed, but it still all seemed so much better.

Chapter Three:
'I bet this is killing you, isn't it?'
No matter how hard she struggles against the grip the Master has on her mind, the Doctor can't tune out his taunts. She can feel Yaz's arms around her, cradling her gently even though she believes she is holding the Master, and she can't even react.
'It's so interesting in here,' he continues. 'So many thoughts... and so many of them about little Yasmin Khan.'
'If you lay a finger on her,' the Doctor thinks, 'I will kill you.'
The Master's laugh echoes around her mind, lacking an ounce of emotion. 'Don't worry. I won't kill your pet. Torture is so boring. No, you've given me plenty of ideas of how to break you and your human, and I'm going to enjoy every second.'
Yaz lays her down on the bed in the TARDIS' replica of a cell that was designed to hold Missy a century ago. Both of them had been aware that she could escape at any moment, but she had been so determined to change her ways that she allowed herself to be locked away.
The Doctor had had so much hope for her. They had a chance — a real chance — to go back to being friends for the first time in millennia. But the Master has always been incapable of change, and here she is again, hoping for a scrap of decency that she knows exists within him, while acknowledging she may never see it again.
'I make a great Doctor,' he says, hovering over her as Yaz exits the room. 'I didn't kill any of your friends, and I saved the day... mostly.'
Stealing her identity may have meant he had to save the day, but that didn't mean he had to do it as well as she did. Hundreds of people would die thanks to that volcano, but at least Earth isn't on fire.
She can sense his glee through their psychic link. No matter how much she hates it, she can hear and see everything he can, and he can hear her thoughts.
"I'm only just getting started," he says out loud, and they both know he means it. "I'm going to make you watch while I show the universe who the Doctor really is."
He rocks back on his heels, cracking his knuckles before standing up. "Maybe I'll come and visit if your pet gets annoying." He's halfway to the door when he turns around, watching her unconscious form for a minute before speaking again. "I hope you enjoy the show, Master."
He lets the psychic link dim as the door locks behind him. If she concentrates, she can still watch through his eyes as he walks down the hallway towards the console room, but he has pulled away far enough for her to think without him eavesdropping.
The first thing she needs to assess is how effective the forced regeneration was. Her body is still unstable, and she reckons a good push would allow her to switch bodies again. If she feels unsteady after being forced into a coma for several hours, then the Master must be feeling the toll of the regeneration acutely.
Yaz will figure out something is wrong soon enough. Ace came close, when the Master didn't think twice about letting her kill a fleet of Daleks, but she was quick to dismiss the behaviour as the new regeneration. Yaz has always stood up for herself, so the moment the Master slips up and directs his malice towards her, she'll realise something is wrong.
The Doctor can picture the realisation dawning on her face, the way her back would straighten like a tightrope walker about to step out onto the wire. She would appease the Master until she could slip past him, and then she'd rush into the bunker, and they'd reverse the regeneration and be home in time for a cuppa.
Okay, maybe it's a bit of a long shot. That's fine. She's great at long odds. She's probably the best at hopeless situations.
If only she could move, she could do something about her predicament. The Master wants her to be trapped as a spectator, forced to lie on an uncomfortable bed and watch as he torments her. Even if she couldn't escape the room, a bit of pacing around would do wonders to soothe her.
"Oh, hello," the Master says, and the psychic link strengthens again. Yaz is sitting on the steps of the console room, one mug of tea clutched in her hands and the other resting beside her on the floor.
"I made you a cuppa," Yaz says, gesturing towards the cup. "Seven sugars, loads of milk. Just how you like it."
The Doctor feels a surge of warmth run through her cold, stiff body. Even though she continues to shut Yaz out — even though they have both had a terrible day — she still went out of her way to make them both a cup of tea.
It's a shame she won't be the one drinking it.
"Thank you," the Master replies, resting his weight on the console.
Yaz shrugs. "Was the least I could do after you saved the world again."
The Master laughs, a tired, joyless noise. "I suppose I did."
"Do you want to... talk about it?" she asks, looking up at him with a cautious smile.
The Master holds her gaze. Yaz has proved over and over that she deserves the Doctor's trust, and yet she has never let her in. The fear of losing her the same way she lost Bill, or Clara, or Rose, or any of her other friends... Well, she couldn't bear it.
"You don't have to," she backtracks when she realises the Master isn't going to respond. "It doesn't matter."
The Master nods. "I was planning on getting some sleep," he says, and the Doctor can feel how he abhors the notion. Time Lords rarely need to sleep, but to do so in the Doctor's domain? The sense of vulnerability must be choking him.
"Good plan," Yaz says, eager to take the excuse. "I could do with a good ten hours too."
The Master turns away from her without another word, running out of patience for this charade.
"Night!" she calls after him, before he can disappear into the heart of the TARDIS.
He pauses, glancing at her over his shoulder. "Goodnight, Yaz."
The tea forgotten, he stumbles into the first bedroom he finds, locking the door behind him. He traces his hand over the soft duvet as he walks over to a floor-length mirror in the corner of the room.
"Oh, Doctor," he says, and she can't tell which of them he is talking to. "She's head over heels for you, isn't she."
It isn't a question.
"This will be easier than I thought," he says, a smile spreading across his tired expression, and the fire of hope in the Doctor's dwindles.

Getting up to speed
Hey Darlings!
Quick recap of the last few months. Since this is the first time I post any of the gossip, it's only fair that you know what happened in the past few months. And of course I won't use their real names.
Sooo.... First things first. We're in our second year but last year we were in different classes. So of course I hated that we had new classmates. After a while I got to know them better and started making friends. And now we get along great!
A month ago Freddie was taking the bus home with one of our classmates, Jasper, when he suddenly asked her to guess who he thought was the prettiest girl in our class. At first she said Yaz, cuz she is pretty (not the prettiest), but this was wrong. It was Aurora. She did not know how to react. She is pretty, but how do you react to something like that. It was a bit awkward for her after that, and of course he also wanted to know who she thought is the prettiest. So naturally she asked boy or girl, because.... He wanted to know both, naturally. So, she thinks the prettiest girl is Delilah and the prettiest boy is Theo.
Two months ago Theo and Freddie were working together when Theo had a, I wouldn't say weird, question. "If you see two guys, a tall one and a shorter one, which would you choose?" He asked her. Of course she said she'd choose the girl as a joke. After that she asked if he was insecure about his height, because he's pretty tall. to which he responded yes... After that she said that height doesn't matter to her, as long as she feels comfortable with the person. he understood that and felt a bit better after that.
This interaction was the beginning to all the gossip I would get to know. For a bit we only talked about Theo, and how it looked that he liked her. And of course she also liked him a bit. Now we think he likes Yaz, because he keeps staring at her. We also think Yaz likes him back. It's like watching two TV characters that like each other but won't confess their feelings. Only if the knew...
I'll be back later with more gossip, but for now...
Stay magical<3

For the ask thingy, because I’m in an angsty mood: Thasmin, the doctor misjudged coming back from space prison—it’s been 10 years
OOO TEN YEARS THATS SO LONG (in true Me fashion it took me days to do this I’d apologize but it will happen again)
Send me a ship+au and I’ll give you a lil headcanon for it!
ok i went through a few scenarios with this and the one i like the most is: yaz moved on.
which is wild, but considering this is pre potd, pre lotsd eotd, pre flux, pre rotd even! i think she'd have worked past that anger we saw in rotd while she worked on her grief, and i think she'd come out the other side (mostly) unscathed.
ten years is a long time.
ten years in linear time is a long time, especially for a human.
and yaz has had all of that time to Get Over It, and i think she's stubborn enough that she would.
because, like, what choice does she have? she can't disappear again, she can't run off with a time traveling alien and forget her earth problems. What choice does she have other than to grit her teeth and bear it for however long it takes.
and eventually, that "however long it takes" turned into "a while" and that turned into "forever" when she got to the acceptance part of her grieving process.
and then the doctor comes back.
yaz is older now, like, what, 32 ish right? close to? she's got her own flat or maybe a house even, and a few plants, and a cat. and she never went back to police work but now shes doing social work, which she likes a lot better. and she's matured now. she doesn't get those urges anymore, and she doesn't run away as much.
and the doctor comes back. like, shows up on her doorstep, thinking maybe Yaz is visiting a friend or summat. no idea its yaz's house, and knocks on the door or just walks in like she owns the place. and yaz was washing dishes from the night before and looks up when the door opens and fully drops the mug into the sink.
the cut on her hand is kinda deep and she curses and and the doctor immediately rushes over to help cos she didn't mean to scare her! and she doesn't even notice how different yaz looks bc shes so focused on getting her a bandage and helping her wash out the cut
and shes holding yaz's hand and finally looks up and frowns because...she looks different.
the doctor isn't great with faces or remembering them but she'd remember yaz (she made a conscious effort to remember yaz in prison) and this yaz doesn't look like her yaz and for a second shes scared she flew into a different universe or something by accident
and shes like "yaz?"
and yaz feels like she's going to Throw Up, and not because of the cut on her hand.
and then the doctor finally registers everything in the house, like the dishes in the sink and the flowers in the vase on the window and the cat sleeping on the couch and the sweatshirt thrown over one chair and the pictures on the wall showing a life lived (showing YEARS of a life lived)
and shes like ..."oh."
and yaz is like "yeah."
and the doctor is like "how longs it been?"
and yaz pulls her hand away and steps back because holy shit
and shes like "ten years."
flashback to clara and the dream crabs and 13 feels like this MUST be a joke like that, right? like, there's NO way she's that late. no way. absolutely none. her ship has never steered her that far off course.
and shes like "no..."
and yaz is like "yeah, doctor. ten years."
And Yaz wants to be angry. Oh god, she wants to be PISSED. She wants to feel that anger she did in the months and years after, where she’d imagine the doctor showing back up in her flat with a smile and a stupid excuse as if nothing had happened. She wants to feel that emotion again because it’s at least SOMETHING, and not…whatever she’s feeling now
(Which like, it isn’t relief. It’s not anger and it’s not sadness and it’s not happiness either. Not entirely. It’s more like…acceptance?)
((And that’s when she knows she’s truly moved on, because she’s able to bandage her hand and make the doctor a cup of tea and sit on the couch while the doctor goes around her flat and looks at all the evidence of her life over the years, and Yaz doesn’t feel the pulling urge to run away in the tardis like she did in her twenties.))

Me and my sisters came to the conclusion after watching camp cretaceous a million times over, that the ranking for worst to best cook goes as following: Kenji, Ben, Yaz, Darius, Brooklyn, Sammy.
Kenji is well Kenji, I feel as if he'd make awful creations in the microwave and call it a great meal. My sisters said he's never had to cook for himself and seems to have no interest in the kitchen so yeah, probably not a great cook.
Ben, even before eating bugs, didn't seem to have the best taste, *cough cough carrot juice cough*, and we couldn't imagine that would change with him cooking in the kitchen.
Yaz while she throws her all into everything she cares about, and I think she enjoys really good food, I don't think she has a passion for cooking. If she was passionate about it I'd say she could be an amazing cook. I believe she'd be an average cook.
Darius and Yaz were pretty much even, so Darius he seems like he'd be an average cook. The only reason I argued he'd be a slightly better cook than Yaz is because Yaz seems like a on the go person, I think Darius would take more time to learn to make a few good dishes. Like specialty dishes.
Now, Brooklyn is higher up because I can easily see her making cooking videos with some famous chefs and learning from that. Her videos opened her to a lot of new skills to pick up, she's the barbie in the group and I can easily see her cooking well.
Sammy, no doubt she was taught how to cook and helps in the kitchen to help her family. She pseems to me the one with the most experience in the kitchen and just enough basic knowledge to figure out how to cook most things.

one character: river ; three characters: 13 yaz and missy – poppy 🥀
Thank you so much, dear!
1 character: River
1. Could you take them in a fight?
Hah! Not in my wildest dreams. I'd be reduced to begging for my life in seconds - or probably just freeze and stare.
2. Would you let them cook for you?
Yes. I think River is a decent cook but maybe a little dangerous for the kitchen. So I'd let her cook for me in not my own kitchen.
3. They give you a haircut! Is it any good?
You bet it is. Mels cut Amy's and Rory's hair for years and then later River took care of 12's curls; she's got practice.
4. What would they get you for your birthday, if anything?
Probably something stolen if we're being honest. Or maybe an excavated dinosaur bone or some ancient scriptures on maths, I would love that! Probably though, she'd just take me out in the TARDIS to some fancy restaurant.
5. If they were a YouTuber, what sort of content would they create? Would you be subscribed to them?
Illegal life/stealing hacks? Archeology tutoring? Weapon reviews? Melody Malone readings? I would be subscribed in all cases. (in any case, actually)
3 characters: Yaz, 13, Missy
1. Who would you rather swap aesthetics/outfits with for a day?
Hmm, Yaz, I think. I like 13's style but there is not THAT much variation. And while Missy's gorgeous, her dresses do NOT look comfortable. But Yaz has great jackets and I adore her braids!
2. Who do you team up with in a 2v2 volleyball match? Which side wins?
I'd team up with Yaz and we would laugh at Missy and 13 bickering too much to actually do anything. We would win easily because of that but it's Yaz who does all the work. I suck at volleyball.
3. If each of them got one million dollars, who would waste/spend their money the fastest?
13. She might invest in hummus or throw it all into a dying star to see it sparkle or buy too many custard creams for even the TARDIS to store. Or she would forget she had that money and keep it forever. One or the other.
Missy would definitely keep the money and never use it because she doesn't need to and Yaz would use it more responsably, so 13 wins.
4. Who would die first in a horror movie? Who would be the survivor?
Missy is either the bad guy in this scenario, then Yaz dies first (because she's the only human) and 13 survives. Or they are all on one side, then Missy dies first and 13 survives. The Doctor always survives because that is their curse.
5. They're all on the run from the law! What crimes did each commit and who is most likely to get caught?
13: Genocide Too many driving tickets that she can't pay for
Yaz: Destruction of proofs by throwing a dead body overboard a ship, also hiding of a stowaway, probably also unauthorised handling of a gun
Missy: Murder
And we know who gets caught...

They'll never catch Yaz, though :)

As a writer of consummate angst I can very much appreciate the Doctor's dilemma right now:
Push away Yaz to protect her physically and emotionally in the longterm
Seize the day with both hands and love today regardless of what tomorrow may bring, which could break Yaz's heart at best, or at WORST get Yaz killed if she insists on not being left behind and tries to save the Doctor (as she already did leaping through that portal to Gallifrey) on whichever harebrained scheme turns out to be terminal for this incarnation
Because Thirteen knows she could die any time now, but she doesn't know when or how, so she's even more skittish than usual about risking her friends' lives and having another loved one die on her watch
Also? She loves this one very very much, but let's face it, awesome as Yaz is, she's not Rose or River. It's complicated? She'd be a great girlfriend, and that's what she SHOULD be, but she's not one of those life-altering soulmates--not yet. Mostly because the Doctor hasn't let her get too close. So they haven't bonded on as deep a level as Rose and River did-- again, not yet.
Who knows what might've been, but they're almost out of time. The Doctor knows it. Dan doesn't. And Yaz fears it.
The Doctor promised Yaz ages ago she wouldn't disappear again, but Yaz said, "You will. Someday you will." Since then their relationship has hinged around that promise, and the prospect that sooner or later, the Doctor will not be able to keep it. Deep down, I think they both know that. 😭
My favorite kind of ship, for some reason, is one that teeters on the cusp of im/mortality: one character mortal, the other beyond death, but ironically it's usually the latter who's about to die/disappear for some reason beyond their control, so they're snatching at the living embers of ordinary, mortal fire for a bit of life before they go. Or trying not to, so they don't quench it.
Carpe diem. Carpe temporem. Carpe mortem. Vivat thasmin.

Don't Say it Back
13th Doctor X Reader
Summary: The Doctor finds out the Reader has a boyfriend, and is utterly heart broken.
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
The Doctor was stood by the console, hands resting on various buttons and knobs. She had been about to type in the co-ordinates of where ever Yaz had been asking to go, but had frozen when your phone had rung.
"Of course," She heard your voice drift over from the doors where you were standing. "I'm just with some... friends right now. I should be free by this evening. Sure, Italian sounds great."
"Doctor?" Yaz asks, snapping her back to the present. "The co-ordinates, remember?"
The Doctor still isn't listening, more focused on your conversation.
"Sure babe," She hears you say. "I'll be there."
Babe. Her hearts sink at the word.
"Doctor-"
"Wait," The Doctor cuts her off, trying to sound only mildly inquisitive. "Does Y/N have a girlfriend?"
"Boyfriend," Yaz replies, oblivious as the Doctor's heart sinks even further at the correction. "They've been dating a few weeks, I think."
"Oh," Is all the Doctor replies, as she watches you hang up the phone and slide it back into your pocket.
"Ready to go?" You ask, a grin on your face as you bounce over.
"Sure," The Doctor replies numbly, as she pulls the lever, and the TARDIS sets off.
---
The Doctor's about to have her first nap in a month when there's a knock at her bedroom door.
It had been three weeks since she'd found out you had a boyfriend, and she had barely managed to hold a full conversation with you since then. Everytime she had to drop you off to go see him, everytime she heard you on the phone saying his name, it made her stomach roll.
"Come in," She says, wondering who it is. It could only be one of four, and she was praying it was just Graham asking how the toaster worked.
But knowing her luck, it's you.
"Hi?" She asks, trying to look as nonchalant as possible while you're standing there in your pajamas.
"Do you have a problem with me or something?" You ask bluntly, and the Doctor's slightly taken a back. She stands up from where she was sat on the bed and crosses her arms defensively.
"Sorry?"
"You've been utterly ignoring me these past few weeks!" You say, shutting the door behind you and leaning against it. "Why?" Have I done something?"
She doesn't reply, and you roll your eyes.
"Spit it out, Doc, you might as well tell the truth for once-"
"I love you!" She blurts out, and your mouth fall open. "I know you don't love me, so don't say it back. I just can't stand you with him, everytime you mention him, or you go to see him I just..." She shrugs.
"You're jealous?" You ask.
"Yes. And I know it's wrong because you're with him but I..."
She trails off as she watches you step closer. Her heart rate quickens as her brain catches up with everything she's just said, but still she can't help but let her eyes drop to your lips. She doesn't move when your hand goes to her waist, doesn't flinch when your other one slides into her hair. She's frozen, she doesn't want to ruin the moment.
Your lips press against hers in the most careful, beautiful kiss she'd ever recieved. It takes her a minute to respond, basking in the feeling of your body pressed up against hers. It grows more heated when she begins to kiss you harder, swallowing the moans coming from the back of your throat.
"Y/N," She gasps when you finally break the kiss. "You have a boyfriend."
"It's fine, I'll break up with him." You reply bluntly, going in for another kiss but the Doctor turns her face away.
"I thought you liked boys?"
"Jesus Doctor - I kiss you and you want to play twenty-one questions?" You roll your eyes. "I like girls."
This time when you lean in to kiss her again, she's more than happy to let you.
