Actually, thinking more about Secret Life Session 7 in-universe (This time drawing inspiration from the Limited Life Clockers dynamic):

- Bdubs is still living at home with Etho and Cleo (and Grian, a cousin to someone in the family if we use LimLife canon) - Scar moves out to start a shop and live on his own (and tbf, considering how chaotic the Clocker dynamic was in LimLife, I don't blame him. Live your life, you funky sunflower dude) - Scar rushes home asking Etho for villagers (For human contact? Help?? Safety in numbers???) - Scar is the first one targeted by Gem's boogeyman infection - He survives!! - Gem singles out Bdubs, backs him in a corner in a tiny cave, and kills him instead - Gem builds her army (3 dead, several injured) and all this time, she doesn't look like a threat because she's just a Yellow hanging out with a scary Red and fellow Yellows - Gem loops back to Scar with a bigger army - Scar runs home, pursued by Gem's army (including his own brother), and dies on Etho and Cleo's front lawn - While all this is going on, Etho killed Grian's pet and is trying to salvage the situation sldfjk - Later, Scar returns home and kills Etho in the lake in front of the house, pretty close to where Scar himself died - Etho insists he will not kill Cleo despite being infected with the curse - Cleo cuts ties with everyone (including Grian, the other surviving relative) and she hunkers down. Last Green standing. - Grian says good-bye to his beloved(?) pet magma cube and runs off on his own - Special shout-out to Impulse asking if he can be the DJ of the boogeyman army because I think it's funny - Etho, who is Yellow and clearly using that to his advantage, rushes towards Joel shouting "Let's group up! Let's group up! Boat Boys forever!" - Honorable mention: Joel shouting over his shoulder, "I know you're one of them, Etho!" He expertly avoids death for a while before turning back to yell "Etho! It's not worth it, Etho!" as Gem cuts him down - Grian makes a stand at home base. He escapes! - Bonus points to Gem stepping in front of Scar as he shot an arrow at Tango sldkjf - Cleo hides out while Etho, Bdubs, and Scar have her on their checklist to kill. Several more dead, many injured. This neighborhood is in ruins - Cleo drowns. She does not get infected by the curse - Also worth mentioning that Martyn, who in LimLife canon was godfather to Scar and Bdubs, gets left alone by the army for the entire session because he's already Red, so he's very much awkward monkey puppeting in the background and that's hilarious

Just a big Clocker fam yikes all over skldjf

Sonic #50 Talk Under the Cut.

So. To the surprise of absolutely no one, Eggman beat Starline. Of course he did. It’s Eggman, and for all that his plans can get out of his control, he is still the most dangerous person in Sonic the Hedgehog’s world and Ian Flynn makes sure to drive that home here. The reveal that he played Starline as soon as he realized he was the one responsible for the core theft? Nice touch. Starline realizing that no, Eggman does listen to your talk, he just doesn’t acknowledge it because he didn’t really care? Excellent!

Speaking of Eggman’s plan, the way he and Tails both beat their counterpart by exhausting the finite power in their tech is an interesting parallel. As Starline said in Imposter Syndrome, they really do have more in common than either would probably admit. Tails does really well for himself here - he’s calm in the face of that ’it takes 40 seconds to drown someone’ line, and does a good job combining genuine enthusiasm and friendliness with some sharp reading of Kit’s motives to keep him off guard. Your tech’s cool but it’s not yours (and the person who made it for you probably sucks?) You’re still using it very well, don’t sell yourself short. You are 100% dead set on this plan and can’t be swayed? Fine, but how about we call a truce because we BOTH agree Starline needs to go down. Like I said, sharp, and keeps him from lending Surge support that might well have ACTUALLY challenged Sonic.

By contrast, everything about Sonic sets Surge off, and I think it goes beyond that Starline-conditioned hatred. After all, leaving everyone free to make their own choices DID leave Starline free to keep hurting people, and the fact that Sonic will not EVER take this as seriously as Surge is has to be infuriating. Sorry, new gal, he’s not trying to minimize your trauma, but seriously, he does this twice a month. Most of his former rivals are friends now. Of course there’s never serious doubt he’ll lose, even if Surge gets him to break a sweat - Metal Sonic’s not the only time Sonic’s fought someone who could be his match, if not a bit stronger, so he’s got a pretty good handle on this sort of fight. Probably would have done Starline some good to look into how he met Knuckles. And Shadow. And Blaze. And Silver. And…

Which will probably infuriate Surge when she comes back, and yeah, OF COURSE she’s not dead here. Nice ‘I spite you and fall’, nice ’You’re free to make your own choices but that means I can’t stop you from making bad ones,’ but come on. Death by bottomless pit for a character who’s just been introduced to give them more villains to play around with, especially as one of very, very few female villains in the franchise. No way she’s dead.

The one I think is a genuine question is whether or not STARLINE lives. He could probably replenish his Tricore if he gets back to base, but narratively? He’s been burned by Eggman before. He swore vengeance already. And he just got smacked in the face with the fact that Eggman will thrash him, even if he plays everything perfectly. His ego’s his fatal flaw just as much as Eggman’s is. This could be taking him off the playing field for good… but while it could be, I do think there’s still a bit more comeuppance in store for him. Starline still thinks he’s a mastermind and manipulator who’s one step ahead of everyone, and structuring the whole issue around each game character-comic character counterpart set (Eggman-Starline, Sonic-Surge, Tails-Kit, Metal Sonic-Belle) means he HASN’T found out his own creations played him like a fiddle. I could see him managing to survive this, composure shattered, and just as self-destructively reckless as he accused Eggman of being. We’ll have to see, especially with how big his presence has been up to this point - killing him off in a landmark issue would be fitting, too, and leave Surge and Kit unable to get the vengeance they REALLY want so they go even further in on destruction. We’ll just have to see.

Speaking of Surprise Tools That Will Help Us Later… Belle. Obviously Eggman has a plan having seen what she was capable of, and I don’t think he let her go out of the goodness of his heart. But I think it’ll be on the backburner for a bit - I could see her leaving the Restoration to go adventuring given her decision here, but even if she stays her arc’s resolved for now and whatever Eggman’s plan is will last a bit. She’s not the only Badnik who’s been abandoned, and I like that as a purpose going forward. I also like the more direct acknowledgment of Metal and Belle being parallels as Eggman’s most sophisticated creations, the one he keeps around and seems to respect on one hand and Mr. Tinker’s daughter on the other.

All in all, a solid milestone issue. Congrats to IDW Sonic’s team for 50 issues! Here’s to 50 more.

Welcome to the last days of 2023 you animals, here's to hoping that 2024 is better

In case it wasn't obvious, but I'm a nasty whore for making vague posts about whatever projects I'm working on (or better known as 'things' because 'projects' isn't vague enough). But if I keep this shit up I might just explode, so here I am to give a short rundown on what 'things' are:

PERSONAL THINGS

● Klątwa (eng: The Curse): It's a comic that I've worked on here and there for a few years, 2023 was when I actually started making progress on it. I've managed to finish the first draft of the script, will more than likely write a second draft. There's a werewolf, there's Slavic mythology, and there's a guy that can't seem to catch a break.

I've made a few pieces of art for it (this one X is my favorite), namely of the main character Mirosław. I haven't really decided on how the other characters should look, let alone how I'm going to go about drawing the comic itself. (I have ambitious plans to make a trailer for the comic, here's the song I'd use X)

FANART THINGS

MOTH

● I don't have fancy names for this section but we'll just divide it between two bulletpoints. The first piece of fanart is a sort of edit to a smaller chunk from Cell Block Tango from the musical Chicago. I've got a handful of sketches and a dream.

● The second piece of fanart is probably the most out of my wheelhouse (and frankly (he he) the most ambitious) because it's supposed to be a storyboard animation using a snippet from episode 14 of MOTH (link here) (The snippet I want to use is from 33:00 to 35:20). It's the bane of my existence and a thorn in my side. It reminds me of the fact that I never took the time to actually learn how CSP works outside of the baseline stuff and that I have a very vague understanding of what goes into animation. I'm going to finish it, I won't let a project get the better of me. Besides, I've already thumbnailed and drafted the majority of it, so I think it would be a waste to not at least attempt to finish it.

BW

● It started out as a silly little speedpaint video, with just some music and sped up footage of an old piece of fanart (the fanart in question being a piece I submitted for the contest GB held back in April of this year). It turned into a big ass thing with multiple illustrations and a silly voice over. I've been working on this thing since May/June of this year. I have a portion of the illustrations done and recorded, but there's still a bunch more to make and a voice-over to record. I just keep giving myself more work.

In short, if I'm referring to "working on a thing" I'm probably referring to one of the above-mentioned. I can't give specific dates as to when everything will be finished, but if I had to order it from most to least likely to be done next year it would be: BW thing, first MOTH thing, second MOTH thing and Klątwa.

I'll still post other things, of course, don't worry, I'd personally lose a marble or two if I didn't do anything else outside of my projects.

teaming up to do outdoor christmas lights is a great rite of passage for any young couple

Hello, sorry to bother. However how did you manage to view the Akili Kids livestream? I've been trying since yesterday to view and I've even gone on multiple free trials for VPN's. However, it keeps giving me the message "This live stream isn't available right now." Thank you in advance for any help :)

hello! it’s no problem at all :)

the thing about the stream i’ve found is that it has a few rules to it. no idea why. but here’s the rundown for why you’re probably getting that message:

it starts 6 am at nairobi time, although usually a few minutes late—which is often fine since the first 5 minutes after 6 are an ad run, although there are times it might start about 10 minutes after 6 at the max. no clue when it ends exactly but i’m pretty sure it’s around 10 or 11 pm. although the tv runs all night long, the stream, unfortunately, does not. you’ll need to see what those times translate into for your timezone and adjust accordingly.

also, it doesn’t seem to run during the weekends? i don’t exactly frequently check but the times i have it seems to be down even at the usual times on weekends. you can check for yourself since i usually only watch it for the 6 am to 7 am time block and it might just start later than usual and i just dont realize.

there might be a few rare days where the stream just goes down. also no clue why but usually you can see when it is gonna be One Of Those Days™ because the stream will buffer a lot until it starts trying to buffer and then does not load again. might be internet issues on their end? but again, not sure.

additionally, since you mentioned it; you don’t actually need a vpn to watch it. i’ve watched it with american ips and european ips and havent had any problems. it isn’t a region-locked stream so you’re good there.

#i think that covers everything #if you open the dailymotion link of the livestream (ie what they show on their website but on dailymotion’s website instead)#you can see when they last started the stream #yesterday specifically it went down about 30 minutes after it started and im not sure if it went back up again #so that mightve been why you were having trouble then specifically #the stream has been struggling a bit this week #hope this helps!

the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.

capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.

now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.

and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.

and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.

and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".

it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"

#this was much longer i had to cut it down for legibility #but i do want to say i am aware this post doesnt touch on human rights violations as a result of fast fashion #that is because it deserves its own post with a completely different tone #i am an environmental educator #so that's what i know the most about. it wouldn't be appropriate of me to mention off-hand the real and legitimate suffering #that people are going through #without doing my research and providing real ways to help #this is a vent post about a thing i'm watching happen; not a call to action. it would be INCREDIBLY demeaning #to all those affected by the fast fashion industry to pretend that a post like this could speak to their suffering #unfortunately one of the horrible things about latestage capitalism as an activist is that SO many things are linked to this #and i WANT to talk about all of them but it would be a book in its own right. in fact there ARE books about each level of this #and i encourage you to seek them out and read them!!! i am not an expert on that i am just a person on tumblr doing my favorite activity #(complaining)#and it's like - this is the individual versus the industry problem again right because im blaming myself #for being an expert on environmental disaster (which is fucking important) but not knowing EVERYTHING about fast fashion #i'm blaming myself for not covering the many layers of this incredibly complicated problem im pointing out #rather than being like. yeah so actually the fault here lies with the billion dollar industries actually.#my failure to be able to condense an incredibly immense problem that is BOOK-LENGTH into a single text post that i post for free #is not in ANY fucking way the same amount of harm as. you know. the ACTUAL COMPANIES doing this ACTUAL THING for ACTUAL MONEY.#anyway im gonna go donate money while i'm thinking about it. maybe you can too. we can both just agree - well i fuckin tried didn't i #which is more than their CEOs can say

eleven is fascinating to me because he came right off the back of tens horrible traumatic breakdown after he lost everything and he immediately tried to establish himself as the opposite of that. he is funny and goofy and almost childlike, and he bulldozes on in his adventures with amy like nothing happened at all. but then something happens and his masks slips and it's like oh! the core of this man is still anger. he is so so angry all of the time and this façade is the only thing stopping him from being consumed by it. he isn't over any of it and he hasn't moved on. he is wearing a fez and laughing but under that all that exists is age old anger and grief and it is going to consume him
