why steve rogers returning to the past was wrong

disclaimer: im clearly a stucky enthusiast, but please, do not be thrown off by that. i admit, there may be undertones of bias because of that in the following, but i did my best with trying to lay out the facts and draw logical conclusions, so do please give me a chance. also, i may have accidentaly omitted some moments and some quotes may not be 100% word for word, as my memory lowkey sucks. ALSO this is NOT a peggy hate post!! i think shes a dope and underrated character and quite frankly she was done dirty. but i also definitely h8 the trope of badass woman falls for the hero.

first and foremost, every sane person knows endgame was complete and utter bullshit when dealing with steves character, so this post will be more for you to maybe show (and hopefully convince) some stubborn friend or family member. nice, concise (not) and including proof from the movies (+a few tweets and stucky undertones, if u dont fw that i respect it but bucky is an integral part to steves character regardless of how u interpret their relationship) here is why steves character development was thrown away at the end of endgame.

let us begin at looking at the cap trilogy.

in ca:tfa it should be noted that steve had no one to return to in the 40s, except bucky. i believe steves relationship with peggy was no where near as developed as it should have been to elicit him returning exclusively for her. as we are aware, steves driving force has absolutely always been bucky. bucky was there for steve after his parents died, when he was sick, and always protected him from whatever trouble he got himself into. "until the end of the line" right? steves relationship with peggy was forced and short lived, literally, we're talking a matter of months here. i need to keep emphasising the important disparity between bucky and peggy, as it is absolutely key in this whole argument. steve dropped everything and went against every order just to even attempt to save bucky. even the slightest chance of him surviving being captured was enough for steve to break into a hydra camp and free the 107th division. steve even had the chance to capture zola, one of the main villains and masterminds of the war, but again, steve prioritised bucky. when theyre trying to escape the exploding hydra camp, the exchange between steve and bucky is critical. steve says "go! get out of here!" as all he wanted was bucky escaping safely. he put bucky's life over his own (this wasnt the first time he did this, nor the last) but bucky rooted himself to the spot, and yelled back "no, not without you!". they both escaped safely as we know, and then steve gathers the howling commandos to take down the red skull. bucky then falls off the train, nd steve blames himself for his death, even visibly crying over it twice. steves morals went from "i dont wanna kill anyone. i dont like bullies, i dont care where theyre from" before buckys death, to "i wont stop until all of hydra are dead or captured" after. stuff happens and steve defeats the red skull and is now in control of the flying ship with the bombs. he connects the comms with peggy and she tries to convince him theres another way to disarm the ship. steve was so dedicated at that point he didnt even want to hear it. he didnt even attempt to do anything to ensure his survival. this alone proves, peggy was not important enough to him to return to.

next is ca:tws. The stevebucky movie. in the museum, peggy confirms that steve saved the man from the 107th division who eventually became her husband (steve was never in the 107th, just to clarify) i believe her husbands name was daniel sousa (as revealed in the marvels agents of shield show) steve then finds out peggy is alive and talks to her. she, in short, tells him she's lived her life, and it was his turn to live his in the time hes in. the "my best girl" line was unnecessary and out of place; again, steve barely knew her. again, shit goes down, and steve finds out the winter soldier is bucky and immediately drops everything, and becomes dead set on saving him. not killing, not imprisoning, but saving him. no matter the cost. "he saw me, and he didnt even know me" "hes not the kind you save, hes the kind you stop. he won't recognise you" "he will." god, steve KNEW bucky would recognise him. regardless of the brainwashing, steve managed to break through the barrier hydra fought so hard to drill into buckys mind. nothing ever broke him out of that state exept for steve. "im not gonna fight you, youre my friend." "youre my mission" "then finish it. cos im with you till the end of the line." [[good fucking lord let me break out of my essay-esque semi professional format here and just say how fucking heartbreaking those lines are. oh my god. read them, over and over until it hits you.]] steve shows us again, that he is willing to not only die for bucky, but literally die by his hand. he would let bucky kill him. he'd dropped his shield. he didnt fight back. steve always, always, ALWAYS got up and fought back. always. exept that time. the time bucky could have killed him. that scene is the essence of "im with you till the end of the line" because then, it was true. it was true because steve was okay with dying at buckys mercy. theres a difference between sacrificing yourself for the greater good (steve going into the ice), willing to die for someone (steve risking his life multiple times in attempts to save bucky) and finally, being willing to let someone kill you, because you love and trust them so much (hellicarier scene). the difference between peggy and bucky's relationship to steve is that steve may be willing to die for either, but only willing to be killed by one. not to mention, bucky pulled steve from the river. he recognised him. steve broke through 70 years of brainwashing with such impact it literally drove bucky away from hydra out of his own free will.

in between ca:tws and ca:cw its confirmed (im p sure sam says it) that him and steve looked for bucky for two. years. even off screen, bucky was steves priority.

im going to squeeze in 2 points from from age of ultron here, for chronology's sake:

steves worst nightmare, as portayed in the movie, is LITERALLY going back to the 40s and being stuck there (with peggy too??lmfao) and also the quote "family, stability, the man who wanted all that went in the ice 75 years ago. i think another one came out." objectively confirms that steve isn't the man he used to be, and doesnt want to return to the past. aou may have sucked, but that doesn't mean the character development should be thrown away.

ca:cw. hoo boy. steve went against 117 countries and half of his closest friends and colleagues because he believed bucky was innocent of the bombing of the un conference. god, steve quite literally, did everything to defend and protect bucky. though i shall acknowledge that steve did attend peggy's funeral, however, there was no real connotations there other than the fact he was mourning her death (understabdibly so). steve then proceeds to protect bucky for 2 hours 27 mins and 41 seconds to the point where they escape together to siberia after the airport fight. "i dont know if im worth all this steve" "what you did all those years... it wasnt you. you didnt have a choice." "i know. but i did it" again, absolutely heartbreaking quotes if you read it a couple of times and truly understand the meaning of them. steve somewhat indirectly tells bucky yes, yes he is worth all of this. otherwise, he wouldn't be doing it. a quote to support that would be "for the longest time, i always did what i thought was right." (disclaimer this is not a direct quote i deadass couldnt find it to save my life, i belive steve said it at some point during civil war or tws, but the point is, bucky is the only thing that could have shaken steves morals so intensely.) and finally, the most important part of cw, the fight at the end with tony. bucky and steve constantly protected each other. steve kept fighting because he was fighting for bucky. to keep him safe from tony and the world. he got up, time and time again. "i can do this all day." the fact that he said that to tony, some people consider them the closest of friends, proves again, a million times over, bucky is more important to steve than literally anything else, INCLUDING his shield. his mantle. he dropped it and left it like it was nothing, because his priority was bucky. as always.

theres not much to discuss for infinity war other than their hug whicg was honestly just adorable.

mmmmm endgame. i will not go into how much i hate that movie because it would be a rant quintuple the length of this one. in the support group, steve dead ass fucking says "you gotta move on. you gotta move on" and that sentiment was literally forgotten at the end. my main point for endgame is this. people tend to tell me, the reason steve abandoned bucky and went back to be with peggy is because he knew that he was finally safe. :/. if you had half a braincell youd know that's not true. the steve we know, never would have left bucky for good, ESPECIALLY after the "dont do anything stupid until i get back" exchange [[god i want to beat the shit out of the r*ssos]] mostly because, bucky had fucking no one in the time he was living in!!! no family, no friends and most heartbreakingly, no one he could trust. (yes sam was there but were just seeing their friendship develop now in tfatws, all that wasnt there in endgame) and secondly, what made steve think bucky was entirely safe??? half of the worlds population just suddenly reappeared, which as we see now, there were massive consequences for that. i simply believe steve is not that stupid. steve going back was disrespectful not only to his character, but to bucky AND peggy. most importantly, the steve we've been watching since 2011 would NEVER abandon bucky, no matter how safe he thought he was (he visited him frequently in wakanda, the safest place on the planet arguably ffs) especially for such a dumbass and quite frankly, nonsensical reason as going back to be with peggy, who clearly stated to him she moved on, and so should he (which he did. idk endgame writers prolly didnt watch the previous movies :/) its not even debatable. bucky is more important to steve than peggy. even in terms of screentime.

bucky mentions steve, unprompted, fucking constantly. he clearly isnt over steve leaving, and im hoping that gets acknowledged and talked out in the show.

in conclusion, tl:dr, steve shouldn't have returned to the past and stayed there, it is contrary to who he is, as shown to us through his trilogy and other appearances in the mcu. not to mention the timeline bullshit in endgame makes zero sense in the first place.

Fuck John Walker (and also some other stuff): A Response To Episode Four

WARNING: some bad language, death mentions, violence mentions, blood mentions, racism, spoilers for for ep 4 of tfatws 

DISCLAMER: I have some Opinions about various characters. These do not extend to the actors, who I’m sure are lovely and should be treated with the dignity, privacy and respect that they deserve. 

“Fuck John Walker” was originally meant to be the subtitle. I decided on it when he screwed up the op for Sam. It got ungraded during the final scene, because nothing else could possibly compare as a necessary title to this post. 

Essentially, some (out of order) thoughts on episode 4:

~*Sam and Bucky, working together*~ (pretend this is a musical jingle)

The contrasting ways that they interacted with the displaced

While the incredibly valid argument can be made that Sam is the least privileged of the group (I’ve made it) it is obvious that he has had the most structured civilian life: approaching the people he comes across openly. Yes, he is polite and calm, but the closest thing to this he has personally come across in the past (that we know of) would be the war vets he worked with and the critical difference is that they wanted to be there. From what I remember of Sam’s groups they didn’t seem to be a sort of mandatory requirement: you came because you chose to. Or at least, you came prepared for the situation. Here, Sam is an outsider and an unwelcome threat. These people are not going to open up to him. 

Bucky is quieter, but still quite straight forward in the way he presents himself. I think he may show a little more care for the environment he is in than Sam but that isn’t saying much. Yes, he has experienced much worse things than Sam but we still see his unfamiliarity with this sort of situation paired with some less than stellar social skills really not working in his favor. 

Look, I love both these 2 to death. But this is not what they know. 

Zemo on the other hand quite likely lived in a place similar to this after his family was murdered. He shows an understanding of how this sort of situation would work, going to children who:

a) wont necessarily peg him as an outsider

b) are bribable

also I think he was genuinely super glad to give those kids that candy and money. He would have been such a good dad. now I have Zemo feels. somebody help me.

The inclusion of the Dora Milaje was incredibly awesome, and not just because I simp for powerful women. Narratively, this was the perfect place for them to join the party and assert their right to apprehend Zemo. 

Bucky speaking Xhosa (i think it was?) is very cool

 I would like to take this moment to formally state that Caption John Walker is a motherfucking asshole. 

It was also really nice to see Sam’s therapist skills, that worked against him earlier really help him here. 

I liked seeing that more human side of Karli, and having her interact with the “enemy” and have serious conversation about what everyone is doing.

It was also really interesting to get a more in-depth look at how Zemo views supersoldiers. Nearly all the ones that he has either heard of or interacted with (destroyed) had either volunteered for the serum or were so brainwashed that it didn’t make a difference. These people are a dangerous enemy to be eliminated, alongside people like Dr. Nagel. His entire worldview is focused on their destruction that the idea that one of them could be a normal person is impossible to him. The only exceptions acknowledged are Steve (paragon of saintly virtue) and Bucky. 

And the fact that after his family died and his country devastated he would most likely have fixated on both the Avengers and the “concept” of a superhuman being as something to blame for his loss. His refusal to concede his position to Sam isn’t just arrogance, although that seems to be a part of it, but the fact that he has spent so much time and energy in destroying both the Winter Soldier program and most likely other similar operations, along with the Avengers that this hatred and belief in the danger has most likely become one of his core beliefs. To change this would be to question his vendetta against the Avengers, to question his actions against the Winter Soldier program which he knows was a horrible thing, and to question why he has spent the past seven years in maximum security prison. This isn’t something he is ready to do yet.  

The fact that Bucky is a noted exception is something that stands out to me. Zemo knows that Bucky is a good person, regardless of the serum. 

Bucky is also the only main character (that I can think of) that was injected with the serum against his will. The fact that he didn’t seek it out could quite likely be part of the reason that Zemo doesn’t look down on him for it - it is framed that the sort of person that seeks out that sort of strength/power would be a “supremacist”, someone who would use their abilities to harm and subjugate others.

And while we are at the apartment may I say how funny it is to see Zemo just. Literally being Sam and Bucky’s sugar daddy. He transports them and houses them and makes them fancy tea. It’s possible he’s providing them with clothes. Either way, love it. Cannot wait for the boys to work it out.

Sam and Lemar’s responses to being offered the serum are an interesting juxtaposition to how they view the concept of supersoldiers. They have both experienced hardship and survived war but Sam is the one that has gone up against Gods and monsters and he wants none of that, thank you. 

And Lemar is so comfortable with saying yes because it isn’t actually being offered to him. Walker expresses some hesitation in their discussion because for him, it isn’t hypothetical. This is something real that can and will effect him for the rest of his life and he wants to make the “right decision”.

The return of Erskine’s belief that the serum not only effect the physical but the mental, emotional and (possibly?) spiritual. This isn’t something that’s really been touched on outside of The First Avenger and I liked that it turned up here. But the fact that it was the reason Walker felt comfortable taking the serum? Eww

The Dora Milaje kicking names and taking ass is super awesome. They are so incredibly skilled and have such amazing teamwork and are also super beautiful I love them 

Sam and Bucky just. Watching. Enjoying the show. Absolute kings. 

Zemo being the sneaky little sneak that he is :)

One one hand, Bucky losing his arm in the fight was very awesome. One the other hand, he has a long history of complicated bodily autonomy in relation to that arm so........  Neutral opinion it is then

And another thing that this show made me think about: kids left to fend for themselves after the Blip (uuuurrrggh it hate calling it that. stupid canonical name). I think it’s good that at least some people took it on themselves to take these children in, to give them good lives and families.

The way that Sam has incorporated his wings into his combat style is very cool

As much as I absolutely unequivocally hate John Walker I actually like the thematic parallels of how they did this. All throughout The First Avenger Steve is adamant on how he doesn’t want to hurt anyone, he just wants to stand up to the bullies. It’s only after Bucky dies that he says he wants to kill all the Nazis and really get into the horror of it all. The fact that John, who has absolutely been on the edge for the entire episode if not longer, only loses it after Lemar dies?

Because Lemar is arguably meant to be that stand-in for Bucky in the eyes of the public, and they are obviously close friends..........

Just - 

I feel I may have accidentally been slightly nicer than I planned to Walker in this post. I’m not sure how I feel about that. 

But C****** J*** W****** is NOT Captain America. Up until now I’ve been calling him “Fake Cap” in my head and to my family, but he doesn’t even deserve that honor. 

And the blood on the Shield. Dear god that was horrible. 

And the fact that, as it was pointed out in this very episode, this man fully represents everything that is Captain America, to the world. He isn’t only tarnishing his own legacy, he is also destroying Steve’s. And to some extent, Bucky’s. The whole reason that Bucky Barnes is considered a “Superhero” is because, at least in America he is known as “Cap’s Best Friend”. He was marketed that way for over half a century, and after the whole “Winter Solder” thing, goodwill or no, brainwashing or no, this could end very ugly for him. Not to mention that Steve Rogers is most likely to be forgotten to history in favor of this freak. 

And on that note, where the fuck is Steve? This is set only 6 months after Endgame, if he had died we would know. So what the hell is he doing? Because I know he got perpetual brainrot going back in time to be str8 and boring but dear god if the show tries to tell me that he’s just chilling in some senior’s center in Alaska I will actually call bullshit. Steve Rogers would never. Okay this is a whole separate post on my thought on Steve. Watch this space I guess.

1:50pm------an aboriginal woman with partially 'red-dyed' hair, comes out of the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD, and is eagerly loudly yakking on a mobile phone that she's holding in front of her like peering at a pearl. She goes into the road intersection, stays there for a short while, then suddenly turns about and goes into 10 Kalara Road. She stays there for less than a minute, then walks out again, still holding up her phone and yakking into it. She walks all along ON the roads and goes to the Koongamia shops......as if prowling for something.....

2:04pm------a white sedan driven by a woman, rushes into the area, turns around and drops aboriginals into the rented 10 Kalara Road residence. An aboriginal adult man comes out of there (wearing a yellow cap) and meets the driver from the open passenger door side by ducking his upper body half inside. The car doesn't stay and is soon gone within moments. At the same time, aboriginals with one on a pushbike, comes rushing back in haste from the Koongamia shops area and go straight into the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD. From number 10 Kalara Road out comes an aboriginal woman and she rushes down and goes into the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD. Shortly later, a group of aboriginal women goes out from the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD and has a small 'meeting' in the street at the end of Kalara Way, just down from the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD. There is some rushing about then as a group of them go around the corner and westward along Clayton Street. A school-aged girl (who never goes to school) on a pushbike meanwhile has been riding all about the streets. She hurriedly returns into the rented 10 Kalara Road residence. She doesn't live there but that makes no difference in this hellhole.

It's not an aboriginal ghetto.....or is it? It's what they've actively made it become.

Should almost be time for governmental vehicles to come along and festoon and bestow the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD with more gifts, goodies and so on. Perhaps more shit to carry on with on the roads outside, then leave strewn andor smashed across the roads as is their way. And has been their way for well over a year now...........

Meanwhile, the aboriginals can wander about the streets pretending they are carrying plastic bottles of soda, when in fact they can contain literally anything the aboriginals put in them so they can drink in public and stay drunk all the time.......

Weatherburn, Snowball and Hunter (2006) drew on data from the 2002 National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Survey (NATSISS) to examine economic and social factors that underpin Indigenous contact with the criminal justice system. 2:37pm----- Two wandering aboriginal adult men on foot go straight without hesitation into the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD.....

2:39pm----- The two aboriginal men then walk out of there and head towards eastwards towards the Koongamia shops direction looking all about as they do so.......

2:42pm---------- an aboriginal male school-aged kid (another of the many who NEVER EVER goes to school), rides out of the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD on a pushbike and heads eastwards to the Koongamia shops areas................a couple of minutes later he rides back...............

2:45pm------------- The two aboriginal men walk briskly back from the Koongamia shops, their hands and arms loaded with things such as a bag of ice, a loaf of bread, and other stuff......would you like to attend a party with them?

2:47pm-----------a girl rides out of the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD on a pushbike and goes straight into 10 Kalara Road. No need to open the gate because it's been ripped right off its hinges by aboriginals and is just proppped up there for show. She 'lives' at number 10 but just as wantonly spends her time EVERY DAY at 3 Kalara Way the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD......

2:50pm------- and back she rides into the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD...this time she has a little stupid handbag across her shoulder and down the back of herself.........

2:54pm------- from out of number 10 then comes a woman on foot and a young woman on a bicycle........they make their way along the roads eastward to the Koongamia shops. The walker carries a mobile phone and egerly looks at its screen as she walks.

2:57pm------ from out of the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD rushes a small girl in a school uniform, one of the two chosen token ones from all the many of that household to actually go to the nearby Koongamia school across the road, and she literally runs to the Koongamia shops direction.......

Never make the mistake that just because 2 of the MANY of the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD goes to school that they all go to school because they DO NOT.

3:00pm------ A small barefoot, and shirtless aboriginal boy kid walks into the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD.........

3:01pm-------- The young woman on a bicycle (from 2:54pm) rides back from the Koongamia shops and has on the back (clinging onto her) a small aboriginal girl. Both go into the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD.

Usually (but not always) there is so much activity (in and outs) happening at the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD at this time that I can't even be bothered to watch. But the noise of which the constant yellings out and so on, upsets neighbor dogs, and poor dear Sam & Max.

3:04pm-------- Another young aboriginal Koongamia schoolgirl runs into the yard of number 10 Kalara Road. Correction...she ducks into and goes thru one of the massive holes smashed into the wooden fence by aboriginals there which the ownwer (who lives elsewhere, and was doing a house inspection here recently) was truly horrified at seeing the state of the house, fencing, and yard has become because of aboriginals.....and the ones that are freely allowed into the rented house and property........

03:15pm-------- the youngest of the two boys that actually lives at number 10 Kalara Road comes home from the Koongamia shops direction. He's eating a long red 'snake' confection but very hurriedly rushes to eat it before being spotted by anyone else and have it ripped from his grasp as always happens otherwise.

03:16pm-------- that same kid who ducked through one of the huge holes in the picket fence of their rented household, stayed there for only less than a minute before clambouring out and striding purposely trespassing next door into the innocent neighbor property of 1 Kalara Way which has new residents who only just moved in and barely been there a week. - I suspect he may be going to try to destroy the crimson lounge chair out there on the front verandah. He once was a reasonable kid, but has long since gone very feral with asociation with the aboriginals of the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD. In fact the entire household, the mother, the oldest daughter, the 2 boys, of 10 Kalara Road have all become more than closely associated with the aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD. All day, they trek to and fro between their rented house and the rented aboriginal CRIMINAL HOUSEHOLD. The mother however nowadays is staying indoors more often and it is rare sight indeed to see her out and about let alone ever trying to maintain discipline and normality. What can you expect from a mother who allows her child to be beaten up right before her by an aboriginal, at her very feet in the dirt?

You are fortunate that I have gone over this entire entry a few times and correcting typo mistakes. My hand injury is still bad and makes typing a hit and miss affair for accuracy. A massive haadache does not add to my eyesight.

A letter arrived today. It is NOT for me. It is for an unknown person. It is from the Police. It is approximately the 6 or 7th time? such a letter has arrived here, and everytime I re-post it back with the the same angry reply written upon it for them (wo sent it) to check and change their damned mailing details because there is and has NEVER EVER been a person of that name living here, and nor is there ever going to be. I do not even know who this shitty person is. I have been to the West Australian Police with one of these many letters. They confirm he does not live here but once lived elsewhere in Koongamia. - I have even in the past had Police themselves here and demanding to see this person (who does NOT live here). My vehemence of innocence was met with aggressive verbal response by Police as if I was lying! - For fucks sake.......

Meanwhile, the criminal aboriginals, and the criminals are all doing fantastically great and are living the high-life, free from worry or responsibility or care.

I barely exist in abject despair.

Tell me what hell is like. This Koongamia hellhole must be paradise compared to what hell really is.
