All this was inspired by listening to She’s So Overrated by Madilyn Bailey so fair warning LMAO. Also this got SO MUCH LONGER THAN I MEANT IT TO IM SORRY IT WAS JUST ME WRITING DOWN AN IDEA......

Okay so I’m having thoughts about modern AU lead singer Eddie Munson who’s been in the industry for years with the boys. Corroded Coffin is a staple of the metal industry, but for a few years he’s been feeling really stalled in his career and just stuck in place. He’s still making music, still performing, but he feels like he’s getting farther and farther from that kid who used to scream and sing in his closet bedroom in the shoebox apartment he used to share with Wayne. 

So when he and the boys are in an interview and the interviewee brings up how “King” Steve Harrington from The Four is trying to reinvent himself with the help of former bandmate Robin Buckley, Eddie goes off. He works himself up into a little tizzy, ranting Munson Doctrine style about how a former teen pop star trying to become some second rate folk singer isn’t anything special, and that he wouldn’t be caught dead cashing in like that. 

That Steve’s music is bad (even though he’s honestly never listened to it) and “King” Steve is overrated. How even Beiber is better than him. He’s just bullshit. 

Of course the interview goes viral, and finds its way to Steve and Robin. Robin listens to it first and she doesn’t want Steve to watch it. She knows how close things like this cut him (especially that word), and how he’s been dealing with a lot of hate from everyone even from former fans who are confused by the sharp contrast of his new music- aka the music he’s finally being allowed to write now that he’s broken away from his momager- but Steve makes her show him. 

She’s sure that she’s going to have to spend the next week rebuilding his confidence. 

And instead, Steve’s lip curls into a smile, and he grabs his songbook, telling her to find her guitar. 

Eddie wakes up five days after the interview to a huge flood of social media notifications, a dozen missed calls from the boys and his manager and his uncle. He ignores them all and goes to see what he fucked up this time. 

Eddie opens Youtube and it’s at the top of his recommendations. The thumbnail is Steve and Robin sitting together with a guitar in her lap. The title of the video is just one word. 

Bullshit. 

This can’t be good. 

Eddie listens to it even though he doesn’t want to. He’s a lot of things, but he’s not a coward. Not anymore. He listens to it because he has to know how much he’s fucked up. 

And then he listens to it again. And again. And again. 

It gets stuck in his head. All of it. Not just the song (which admittedly is pretty killer) but also hearing the flippantly mean words he had casually thrown at Steve being shoved back in his face. He had seen Steve as an abstract thing, just a symbol of everything wrong with the industry, not a real person. And now this actual human being that he’s hearing has turned all of that garbage into a song that feels more genuine then most of the music on the last two albums he wrote himself. A song that has heart, joy, and a strong current of pain underneath, especially in the bridge where Steve just sings the word bullshit over and over. 

There’s even more than that. He also sees the way Robin and Steve interact while they’re working the smiles, the jabs, the silly little way Steve bobs his head along as he listens to her play, the way they both collapse into giggles at the end as Steve directly quotes the part of the interview where Eddie said that Steve “is just another laundry basket devil trying to act like a big shot now that he’s too old for teen girls to moon over.” 

He can’t remember the last time he and the boys had that much fun making a song. 

Hell, Eddie even sees their apartment. It’s a pretty nondescript room, but he can see the wear and tear on the furniture, the cobwebs in the corners of the room, the slightly drooping houseplant with the name “Dart” lovingly painted on its pot. It feels like a home, and as Eddie looks around at the bedroom in his far too big mansion, he feels even more like a fraud. 

Eddie listens to the song on repeat for most of the morning. In the afternoon he finally answers everyone, and starts to put his plan into motion. 

By that evening he’s on the phone with Steve asking him and Robin to help Corroded Coffin write their next song.

chloe or sam or sophia or marcus: i cried myself to sleep listening to this song on repeat on release night and for the life of me i cant tell you why. i think it’s a great example of her being older really deepening her writing— just that old scarred over longing of a possible life, a possible love, too far away to reach but close enough to brush past. also, the double edged sword of “if you want to break my cold, cold heart, just say’ i loved you the way that you were’”— you loved me before i’d twisted myself into the shape i am now in order to keep my current partner, but also, you loved me the way i was, not the way i am now

i look in peoples windows: i wrote a poem with the line “im afflicted by the not knowing” in it!! inspired by the outside!! and by spending so much of my childhood reading by moonlight and spying on my neighbors through their windows!!! it was called where midnight lives!!! what the fuck!!!

robin: another song i sobbed hysterically to. i was a strange little violent child obsessed with dinosaurs it feels like a lullaby someone made specifically about 3 year old me.

but daddy i love him: the bridge is just so fun to scream along to. everytime ive been in a car since the album came out ive played this at least two times just cause

fresh out the slammer: it’s just. the first verse??? the way the song stutters apart for the last verse??? this song takes the blurry muse conceit of the album and uses it to its fullest. also just the diminishing returns from “but its gonna be alright, i did my time”

the smallest man who ever lived: the bridge????? the bridge???? the bridge???? a few of the negative reviews specifically mentioned this song as boring and for a millisecond i was so angry i could’ve exploded

the black dog: this is like, the platonic ideal of a taylor swift song to me. just that old quiet tragedy she can build out of little moments of hoping your ex will remember you when they hear your favorite song or not having known your last kiss was your last kiss or your ex still sharing their location with you. like, it’s just her at her best, but with the maturity to sing “and you jump up, but she’s too young to know this song”

i hate it here: people have talked about seeing reputation in the anthology but i think you can also see so much debut and it makes me feel so tender. also i genuinely don’t understand why people don’t like “if chose the 1830s but without all the racists” like?? it’s supposed to be a bit clunky?? the songs about the limits of escapism?? the line enhances both of those themes?? also “i’m there most of the year” is such a funny devastating relatable lyric to say about a daydream

the bolter: avoidant attachment representation!!! i love that it takes the stuff she hated about herself in the archer and just accepts and loves them and appreciates what they’ve given her. i especially love it because bolt can mean like, crossbow bolts, so it’s a flip on the archer. also “bolt” is one of my favorite words i love all the different meanings

“the only thing that’s left is the manuscript, one less souvenir from my trip to your shores, now and then i re-read the manuscript, but the story isnt mine anymore” also just had me sobbing. there’s just. wtf!!!!!!

horror movies and true crime!! i watched over 100 hours of movies, video essays, podcasts, and documentaries relating to horror and true crime. i'm officially burnt out of it though, so i will be back next month to once again happily share my interests!! byeee

regarding your book troubles - don't read the book if its a triggering subject. see if google has any notes you could use to get the basic idea of what it's about. then you can go in and explain to the teacher that it's too triggering for you to read <3. also paranoia can be incredibly hard- i get that. something that helps when i'm having my bad days is to ground yourself with some of your favourite objects & remind yourself that those things aren't real, you're safe <3.

Bullimic ( written 2001 ) was about Bert McCrackens crippling drug addiction. Saying how they were taking up his time and doing nothing good for him.

Towards the end of The Used’s second album, In Love And Death, Bert’s pregnant girlfriend died of an OD. He tried for years afterwards to get clean for her.

MCR’s You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison; Was recorded and produced in Gerard & Berts underwear.

Bert McCracken has been clean from drug use since 2012, suspected to be using again due to some recent song lyrics, but not confirmed.

In 2008, Bert underwent vocal surgery and once again in 2016 ( ? ) after he developed a node on his vocal chord’s from screaming. Cancelling The Used’s appearance at Warped Tour ‘08.

Bert McCracken appeared in 2 episodes of ‘ The Osbournes ‘ due to his former relationship with Kelly Osbourne. He first appeared in season two; The Beauty And The Bert.

After being married 6 years, Bert and his wife relocated to Sydney, Australia ( MY CITY !! )

It is suspected Bert wrote several songs about Gerard Way. In one live song, saying “ This is the last song ill ever write about who shall not be named “ With alot of directions pointing to the lead singer of MCR.

Quinn Allaman was kicked from the group after having several months off due to mental health. Soon addressed he wasn’t good for the band. Only being a year after Bert’s first child was born

Bert has stated a major part in starting his career was the singer, Chester Bennington.

After Kate, his former girlfriend passed, the band went on to not create any new music for the next 3 years.

Not a fact, but i believe Paralyzed is about either Kate or Gerard. No inbetween.

Bert grew up in a Mormon household. ( christianity ) and rebelled at 16 to live with his highschool sweetheart, Kate.

The 2017 album ‘ Canyon ‘ ‘s lyrics were written based off of Bert’s friend who took their own life a year prior.

Listening to the older songs, they sound alot more raw with Bert’s cracking voice, almost like a pre teen singing. Post vocal surgery changed his voice sadly. I miss the little whiny guy

Their first song, Maybe Memories, was written and recorded vocals by Bert in one night. He was immediately welcomed into the group.

The band was originally called Dumb Luck. Later changed to USED. Currently is called The Used.

Alot of their earlier songs were recorded in their drummer’s bedroom. You can find this CD for about $600. ( hint, birthday )

Hallo, I'm back again with another music talk!! As I said in my last one, I basically am just talking about music I like, what I've been listening to the last week and rambling. Anyways enough of that, let's get straight into it😊

Okay to start off I'm going to talk about the playlist i've mainly been listening to this week. This playlist is called 'pacify her' . It's called that because I was listening to that song while making it. I don't really know what kind of genre the music in this playlist is but I'd say they all sound really cool. While making this playlist i found an artist called 'jack of jill' her music is so good, her song 'vivica' is definitely worth checking out. In addition to 'jack off Jill' i also found another artist named 'johnny goth', his songs just sound so otherworldly i really don't know how to explain it. He has some really sick instrumental parts in his songs, i really recommend listening to him! The band 'i monster' also showed up a lot on this playlist, i've been listening to them for a while now but have discovered some new songs by them as well. I initially found this band through their song called 'who is she' . This song is really good, however I would think my favourite song by them is actually 'lust for a vampyr'. The album covers this band makes are just so good oh my life, anyways i think 'i monster' is definitely one of my favourite bands currently😊

I know i rambled about melanie martinez in the last music talk but i'm going to do it again anyways😔

The closer we get to the album release the more excited I get, all the spoilers Melanie has been giving are so exciting. Her new form is looking so cool, she looked absolutely gorgeous performing at lollapalooza!! This morning she released a song from her new album early and i have to say that 'death' is actually such an amazing song. It's a bit different from what we were used to from Melanie but I personally think that the change is good. The new style compliments her vocals really nicely!

Lately with the snippets of Melanie's album having been released I've been seeing a lot of people hating on her. I think this has been happening due to her changing aesthetics and music style a bit; which is really not an excuse though. I get that it's a bit of an adjustment to move on from Crybaby especially if you grew up with her like myself but Melanie has been planning this for years now! Melanie said in an interview a few years back that Crybaby is going to evolve as a being/ soul and she's finally getting to do that with this album and I am honestly living for the dark fairy vibe that she's going with. It may be because I listen to a lot of genres compared to others but I really like how the new songs sound. They are less soft than things she's previously made but it really isn't too different. Melaine has always been weird and displayed that very clearly in her songs and music videos for years now and yet she's getting hate from people who claim to be fans only now? See I understand not liking her newer stuff, you're not obligated to; but that doesn't mean you can be such haters either. People need to learn to humanise celebrities more, Melanie doesn't deserve even half the hate she gets.

On a lighter note this album means that she will likely go on tour again meaning i may get a chance to see her perform live for the first time!!!

The song that is second from being my top listened to in my stats called 'angry' is so good oh my life. When i first went to check who the artist was and saw 'mars argo' i was shocked because i could have sworn i knew her from somewhere. Turns out she made a popular tik tok sound that goes 'welcome to my computer show, im mars argo', anyways i just thought that was kind of cool. Mars has such good vocals, I think I'm probably going to look into more of her songs soon.

To end this off I'm just going to ask for music recommendations, I listen to most genres so feel free to send in anything! If i like something enough i might mention it in my next blog, you never know🤷

Current Top 10 Taylor Swift Songs

I've been brainstorming this list since I saw @nayeonline's post ranking Taylor's albums! I've been a fan since Red, though I remember owning her albums before that one came out (I was very little back then!!), and since 2020, it's been fun to see people start appreciating her stuff again after years of "ew who likes Taylor Swift???"

some of these have been unchanging favorites for as long as i can remember and aren't likely to go anywhere anytime soon (specifically 1, 2, & 6), while others could be switched out depending on my mood! i also have very strong memories attached to a lot of them, so please forgive me if i sound less lighthearted than usual :)

currently reading: im in 2 books rn bc i need variety or ill never finish any book ever. first is The Creative Vegetable Gardener by Kelley Smith Trimble, its a really good book about gardening that i really didnt expect to like this much. aside from general gardening knowledge, its about breaking the mold of industrial inspired modern gardening and acknowledging gardening holistically, and what it can do for us mentally, physically, ecologically, and historically. honestly didnt expect to read about native land acknowledgement and the psychology of play in a gardening book written by an HGTV editor, but its a pleasant surprise and a very pleasant read. i cant garden where i am right now but theres a lot of good stuff in there. wow that was a lot but SECOND is How To Be You by Jeffrey Marsh, a lovely interactive self help book. ive only just started it but im already in love with it.

current obsession: Cheekface the band. ive had their music on REPEAT since i saw them live last month. an incredible mix between poppy energetic catchy music and cynical socially self aware lyrics. stream cheekface. all three of their albums. and also the b-sides. theyre so good if you want song recs I WILL GIVE THEM TO YOU LISTEN TO CHEEKFACE

things that spotify did to their stupid app (mainly desktop) that i HATE and makes me SO ANGRY. in no particular order BC THEY ALL MAKE ME VISCERALLY UPSET

why the FUCK did they add that new sidebar album cover thing. where it used to just show friend activity. it used to just be that u cld adjust the size of it in the bottom left corner or u cld just make it small enough to fit in the bottom section so it doesnt cover ur library. I HATE THE NEW THING.

this directly relates to the above but it used to be that when you double clicked the album cover of the song u were currently listening to it wld take you to where it is in the playlist u are listening to. if no playlist it wld take u to the album its from. NOW. IT JUST BRINGS UP THAT STUPID FUCKING SIDEBAR. SO IF I WAS BROWSING AROUND THROUGH PLAYLISTS BUT NOW I WANT TO FIND THIS SONG. I HAVE TO CLICK AROUND FOR IT. ITS ANNOYING.

THEY. GOT RID. OF PLAYLIST RADIOS. WHY DID THEY DO THIS. its literally impossible to find new music now. the smart shuffle is the dumbest thing they have ever added to this stupid app. all of the reccomended songs under playlists or song radios are filled with the SAME 10 SONGS. THAT I HAVE ALREADY SAVED IN OTHER PLAYLISTS OR HAVE HEARD A THOUSAND TIMES. THEY NEVER RECOMMEND ANYTHING NEW. i used to love the playlist radios bc it would take all of the vibes and sound of the playlist and mix it up in a big pot and it would spit out a great new assortment of music AND THEY GOT RID OF IT IT MAKES ME SO UPET

u can no longer re order the playlists on your profile by dragging them around on the left sidebar and while i dont mind the new system of showing u recently played and ordering them based on that (i also like how they show u the cover too its cool) i miss being able to move around the playlists displayed so i cld make the colors match lol

why did they get rid of the liked songs heart ???? why do i have to add it to a "liked playlist" ?? what the FUCK is that. WHY ARE THEY OVERCOMPLICATING IT. it makes me so angry. i hate it so much.

also i hate when im trying to find new songs the ONLY WAY I AM ABLE TO NOW. BY LOOKING THROUGH THE RECOMMENDED ONES AT THE BOTTOM. whenever i go into the lyrics tab it just. resets all of the "refreshes" i did. and now i have to click refresh 100 times bc thats as far as i have to go for this shit app to start showing me new music. its so frustrating i hate this app so much IM PAYING 15$ A MONTH WHY IS IT SO FUCKING SHIT WITH THESE SHIT FEATURES I HATE YOU SPOTIFY
