#i want more newt and theseus scenes… they are so precious
Text
I’ve just seen the scene called Newt’s house, and WHY DAVID WHY???!!! Why on earth would you delete THAT scene??? It’s so beautiful and oh my heart!! Theseus rocks Qilin, blows her kisses and sweet talks her. And the brothers sing together, a song their mother used to sing. They laugh about it. Pure precious scenes AND YOU DELETE IT??!!! If they’d have kept that in the film, it would have been my FAVOURITE SCENE!!! Oh my gosh! I could watch that over and over again! It was so precious. Thanks to the person who shared it. I wanted more of that scene though. Like the whole scene. Not sure if the whole scene was shown in that clip. It stopped at the brothers laughing together. I want every scene with Newt in it. Give me every scene, and every scene with the brothers together!!

(Be aware that this post contains spoilers)
Ok so I went to see SoD another time (my heart broke twice) and watching the last scene again made me realize something. Love is a key theme and at the end of the movie, the love all the characters (except for Dumbledore) feel towards someone has evolved in a positive way.
Queenie & Jacob : they marry each other and end up sealing their love.
Tina & Newt : they seem ready to acknowledge their love and to let it grow.
Newt & Theseus : they simply realize how much they mean to each other.
Abelforth & Credence : they truly want to learn how to love/ trust each other.
Bunty : her relationship with Newt isn’t exactly what she hoped for, but she understands that this form of love is still precious and she values it more than ever.
Yusuf : he thought that he only sought revenge but in reality, he cared about Leta and was always capable of love.
But if you think of Dumbledore and Grindelwald…
Dumbledore understands that the love he feels for Grindelwald will never fade, but he can’t give in to it anymore. "Do what’s right, not what’s easy".
It’s truly heartbreaking because we know that he will always remind the others how precious love is… despite being himself so unfortunate in love. He was loved and he loved people, but in the end he’s the one who was never able to "love freely" the man he desired.

Just got back from seeing The Crimes of Grindlewald. I am totally opinion-dumping, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to know other thoughts. I want to know what other people thing! I could be wrong about things!
A FEW NON-SPOILERY THOUGHTS (UNLESS YOU THINK ALL THOUGHTS ARE SPOILERS):
I liked Newt’s creatures. I loved the Niffler. He needs a name, though.
WHY IS EVERYONE WEARING SUITS? DID WIZARDS FORGET HOW TO WEAR SUITS BETWEEN THE 1930s AND 1991?
Eddie Redmayne is precious. He is flawed. He has made poor role choices. I love him.
say gay JK
SPOILERS AHEAD
.
I wanted this movie to surprise me. I really did. I wanted Nagini to prefer the snake body, for owning that to be part of her from the start, to know it wasn’t a curse. Anything that didn’t make her a prop for a boy’s story, and set her up to eventually be companionless but for a megalomaniac whose life is so tied to hers that she must be beheaded by a child for the evil to die. It will feel wrong to me, no matter where we go from here, because hse was exoticised and nothing but a means for Credence to escape someone who didn’t seem to be trying all that hard to hold him.
Queenie’s storyline also royally pissed me off. There wasn’t any nuance, simply an, oh hey I met this man yesterday, he didn’t call me crazy, and he told me he beleives in inter-magical relationships, so he must be legit! I thught maybe she’d be enchanted, like Jacob at the beginning—which, fine, she’s willing to enchant him but it felt OOC—or that she’d realize that Grindlewald said what she wanted to hear, or—something. Anything but the Jewish-coded character with magical mental illness becoming a pawn of wizard-Hitler. And the analogue between Hitler and Grindlewald is too strong for anyone to try to sell me on her being the “oppressed ifghting back” or whatever. She’s not coded as the German citizien who didn’t know what was going on, she’s coded as one of those hurt, and I didn’t’t buy her storyline. Rowling needed someone to cross the line, and Tina wouldn’t, Jacob couldn’t, so Queenie was left. It’s unnecessary.
And that doesn’t get into the fact that Jacob calling her “crazy” at the beginning was actually dealt with really well, but then at the end we’re set up to think he’s right for saying that, because she IS being irrational, and that’s simply not helpful. I don’t know, all I can say is if she isn’t a double-agent lickity-split I will be….Angrier than I am.
A lot of it felt unnecessary.
I don’t like the Credence reveal. I don’t think the whole Harry Potter franchise needs to be the Dumbledore McDumbledore, but hey we can’t say gay “like brothers" my ass Chronicles. Like I see what you were doing there, you want us to think about DD having a brother, and his sister died, but a brother because apparently ABERFORTH DOESN’T EVEN MATTER, and does he ever even KNOW about Credence? Because either:
A. He sent Credence away?!
B. Credence was his father’s illegitimate baby, and DD didn’t know. (Related to the Azkaban stint? Are Obscurus genetic now????)
C. Kendra somehow had another kid? Is she the one on the boat? She has Native American blood, right? Why be taking him to America, with her other children still in England? And isn’t she dead before this? And Papa DD before that?
Someone get me a timeline.
And it all begs the question: If Credence really is a long-lost sibling (which, I’m sorry, Mark Evans made far more fucking sense than this shit) WHY DOES GRINDLEWALD KNOW, BUT APPARENTLY NO ONE ELSE? I know Rita Skeeter isn’t the best reporter evah, but she did seem to dig up all the possible dirt!
Young Dumbledore was great. For all that this doesn’t need to be The Dumbledore McDumbledore Chronicles, the way he was written and played absolutely felt to me like a Dumbledore who hasn’t battled his bestie brother lover yet, and but will become that man. He is a Chess Master learning to become a Chess God.
He is ALSO GAY
There are ways the story of Newt’s involvement in the inter-continental politics of the Grindlewald era could be told without constantly harping on storylines out of The Life and Times. The Lestrange stuff was so powerful, why not delve deeper into that?
Why not delve more into the world of Magical Paris, like we (sort of) did with New York in the first film? Fine, Grindlewald hates Paris and the end is at Père Lachaise. It could’ve been ANYWHERE. We were mostly indoors. Where was the architecture, the horticulture, the FASHION.
I loved the flashback scene (Autistic Newt is Autistic). I loved Leta, and while I didn’t like the mixed-race woman dying—and oh wow the non-evil girl from the stereotypically-evil family is mixed-race. JK you are NOT subtle—I did respect her sacrifice and liked that she wasn’t evil simply because of her name. I also REALLY enjoyed that we got some nuance to Newt’s relationship to Theseus. It wasn’t a good/evil dichotomy, no one stole anyone else’s girl. I want more about Leta and her brothers, and their different upbringings, and the cultural differences, and….
Wow, POC in the background, this should not be notable!
How did Rabastian and Rudolphus Lestrange happen????? All the male heirs are dead, unless somehow the baby didn’t die, or Credence is actually the baby, or I don’t know, Thesus fucking takes Leta’s name and his kids are Death Eaters?? Am I missing a Lestrange line here?
MORE MAGICAL CULTURES.
I DO NOT FEEL LIKE I GOT MAGICAL PARIS. AT FUCKING ALL.
If the miscommunication between Tina and Newt had gone on HALF A DAMN SECOND longer I would’ve cut someone.
Did muggle Paris just NOT NOTICE that shit? We didn’t have magical bird rain this time….
How TF do you get a half-elf in this world.
How did the circus get a house-elf?
Why wasn’t the servant a damn goblin?
Why did we barely learn anyone’s name? JK is usually obsessed with names. Like the whole damn thing is about names....
Grindlewald did not have to be Johnny Depp. He wasn’t a classic Depp character, which makes the decision to keep him on even more bizarre.
YOU CAN SAY GAY, IT’LL BE OKAY.
Why spend all that time with the damn baby only to have a follower kill him and that be it? Why not set Grindlewald up as the less brutal megalomaniac who DOESN’T kill babies, and help us see while people fell for his ruse initially?
I liked young Minerva, though I always head canon her as being Tom Riddle’s age, I know she’s not.
Why was Nicholas Flammel the Walking Corpse a thing??? Like, what did he bring that ANYONE else couldn’t do?
I liked Jacob in this one. Jacob is good and can stay.
Honestly, I want AU fic now please. So much AU fic. I, in fact, plan to write one, like, tomorrow.
SAY GAY JK

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them: Crimes of Grindelwald, A Review
This got pretty long really quick so i put it under a read more. Spoiler alert obviously but please enjoy!
Alright, let’s take it from the top. Grindlewald’s escape. For I second, I almost believed he was locked up. Then I saw the look the dude have him in the room where he was kept. I knew something sketchy was going on.
I’m,,, weak for Newt and his suspenders
Poor Queenie
She just wants to get married to Jacob LET MY GIRL LIVE
“I’m not crazy.”
“I didn’t say anything.”
“No, you just thought it.”
Damn… These two caught me hard with the feels.
Newt! Holds! His! Want! In! His! Mouth!
He is soft
Did anyone else notice it was Cormac McLaggen’s relative who stood up for Dumbledore? Iconic.
Also!
Jude Law as Dumbledore? I’m living for it
On a related note
Johnny freaking Depp as Grindelwald is truly spectacular
Dumbledore as DADA teacher? Yes please more of that ASAP
I loved Lita! She’s my queen! she could probably crush me beneath her foot and I’d thank her tbh
Um,,, young Newt is the cutest
I’m really happy we got a little more backstory for Newt and Lita’s friendship
Newt and Theseus, name a more iconic duo, I dare you. You can’t.
two words for you: baby Nifflers. never have i ever seen a cuter animal.
Queenie crying on the curb had me crying in the theater and you’re lying if you say it did’t break your heart just a little.
So is nobody going to talk about how Grindelwald, aka Wizard Hitler, showed them clips of WW2 as a reason to forrow him? No? Okay.
Credence is another Dumbledore, neat, cool, great, I think Grindelwald is lying. Hes a manipulative son of a bitch and I wouldnt be surprised.
So the ministry coming after Dumbledore for every possible reason has aways been a thing, even in the 20s? Great.
Newt’s connection with his beasts is precious, I love how much they trust him just automatically,
Pickett is so sweet
Pickett and Newt going for the button in the beginning of the movie!
Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s oath had me shook.
We! Met! Nicholas! Flamel!
This whole movie had me quaking
When the Niffler came back with the little oath thingy i said, out loud, “ Yes! Good! That is a very good Niffler!
Hello yes I need a Queenie redemption arc already
Poor Jacob, that sweet man probably blames himself for Queenie switching sides.
Newt showing Lita the Bowtruckles.
Tina “I can handle it” Goldstein
So are her and Newt together or...?
For their entire salamander eyes scene I was just murmuring “Please don’t say it, please don’t say it” over and over again as though Newt could hear me.
thEN SHE SAID IT
IT WAS SO CUTE SHE KNEW WHAT HE WAS TOO EMBARRASSED TO SAY AND INSTEAD OF BEING INSULTED SHE JUST SORT OF SMILED AND THAT WAS SO GOOD
“I’m not to supposed to say” A FULLY GROWN ASS MAN!!! WHO GAVE HIM THE GODS DAMN RIGHT TO BE SO FREAKING ADORABLE!!!!!
Credence just needs love
Nagini deserved more screen time
Also,,, Nagini used to be a person apparently?????
Grindelwald better cut the shit trying to manipulate Credence
“Oh Newt, you never did meet a monster you couldn’t love.”
Damn girl, just damn
We really got to see more of Newt’s character this time around and it was much more clear why he’s a Hufflepuff
“I don’t do sides."
"I've chosen my side."
He just has such a kind soul. He's not doing this because he has to, he was even given the chance to refuse, he's doing this out of the genuine belief that what's happening is wrong and things need to change. I love him so much.
I also loved that moment in the tower with Young Newt and Lita, it was such a good moment of two people who, although they don't quite understand each other, can exist in perfect harmony.
"There are no odd creatures, only blinkered people."
I literally am in love with this movie someone come yell with me about it in my dms

COG THOUGHTS Let me begin this with the fact I went in knowing every major spoiler. You would think this would hurt the watching process but it had the opposite effect-- I was actually pretty well prepared and was thus not caught off guard by certain reveals and could pay attention to scenes I would have otherwise been very ???? about (not to say I wasn’t still very ????? about them but I at least expected them). For me COG was... a mess. Not bad but not grand either. It took me ages to suss out why I felt kind of “meh” about the movie. I ranted for hours at @gigglewcter last night a bout it and eventually came to the conclusion with another friend my opinion is this: The adventures of Newt and friends and having heartache for Leta was great! Everything else was a total blur that I could live without. For quite a few reasons. So the rest of this will be behind the cut. SPOILERS WILL BE THERE DON'T CLICK UNLESS YOU WANT THEM.
We’ll talk about pacing first. There’s a few different storylines going on her: Newt vs the world, Jacob looking for Queenie, Queenie looking for Tina and subsequently her alliance with Grindelwald, Yusuf looking for Credence, Leta being confused about everyone’s talk, Theseus... well he’s just kinda confused and looking for Newt, Credence looking for who he is, and finally Tina just kinda doing her investigative work. Many of these stories eventually overlap and connect but it’s not until about the last 30-45 minutes of the film that they all come together. So there are points where we get scenes that are kind of good for the plot but could also be entirely written out for the audience to get the picture. At points it feels rushed and at other points it simply feels like there’s too much they’re trying to give at once. The only one who feels like they have a complete storyline to me in this film was Leta and even that was so minimal compared to Newt. And Newt, well, he’s Newt and the whole point for this film and him was finding Tina and eventually choosing a side (both of which he does). Acting was also, honestly, hit or miss for me. It was really difficult to watch Queenie scenes for me and I’m not entirely sure if it was just my feeings for the scene or the way things were done. But I also wasn’t thrilled with Callum either. For the most part everyone seemed to do a lot better, even Katherine who-- while I love-- had some hit or miss scenes in the first. No one will be calling her a “Wet actress” in this film (we don’t even see her tear up when Queenie ultimately goes to Grindelwald’s side). Now let’s talk characters and plot devices: The first one I’m going to hit up on is the Queenie storyline because I’m sorry but Jacob was on a fucking date rape drug and people who stan her need to back the fuck up. Like I get it we want her to be precious and lively but--- we do not know everything about this character. There were hints of her manipulative behavior in the first movie. She had a problem with not saying no before and not letting people speak for themselves. And I DO  get that she sometimes can’t control her powers but it does not make it acceptable what she did. JACOB should have been the one to be mad about this whole thing and should have been ALLOWED to be mad that she did it. This is an issue that’s never confronted but between Jacob and Queenie and it’s honestly-- It’s not a light topic. Jacob doesn’t even know he’s in London. No idea where he is, can’t hold a glass of water, anything. And just seems to stumble over this idea he’s engaged. And he is honestly angry when Newt breaks the enchantment. But Queenie runs off because he thinks that she’s crazy in the heat of the moment when she completely dismissed his consent on a matter and took him across sea. And then when they reunite acts sugary sweet and tries to convince him to go with Grindelwald whom HE JUST LISTENED TO talk about him as if he was some kind of lowly animal. She’s mad about it like-- I want to defend Queenie the best relationship-- not ship-- to me is Tina and Queenie. I really want to root for a good sisterly bond but if we’re being honest there was problems in that relationship from the beginning. And Queenie is creepily possessive over this idea of a perfect relationship with Jacob because it’s ~love~ and Jacob is trying to be realistic and protective and she’s not having any of it-- It’s. Honestly. It’s gross and cringy and the fact that Jacob is the one spending the film looking for her to make things right makes me upset. I honestly cannot feel bad for Queenie in this film-- She is absolutely playing the “sickenly sweet” card and it’s fake. Its’s just such an odd feeling when she’s on the screen. And the only time I felt any real empathy for her is when she’s on the streets with everyone’s voices in her head. As for her going for Grindelwald-- This was pretty much anticipated for me from the first promo. And it went down just like I expected it to in that Grindelwald convinces her because ~love~. What I’m most mad about here is that we don’t get a single sister scene in this film. We don’t even get Tina’s reaction to her sister just leaving Jacob’s side to join him. We get a rushed, “Queenie!” while she’s running but it’s Jacob who gets this look of desperation (if FB was Jacob’s bad day FB2 is basically Jacob’s very, very, bad no good day”). Grindelwald.... Is another character I’m kind of... I can’t really explain my feelings for him because it’s difficult to itterate. As a person who studied Hitler’s Regime extensively and the Holocaust and has close friends who are Jewish (and is a Jewish conversion student themselves the Hitler parallels are very, very real. Grindelwald has the same tactics that Hitler does in showing a public face and a private face and only unveiling half of his true meaning to the people. The fact we see brief clippings of the Atomic Bomb and concentration camps is very quick but it’s not seeing them that’s difficult-- It’s listening to Grindelwald spout words that Hitler used. The no-majs are an other, they’re problematic, and we need to stop them before the destroy everything for us (and behind doors it’s genocide). Telling people who are standing up against him if they don’t join they will die. It’s... It’s very hard to watch and does not make the movie enjoyable. There are moments in the film where I just felt like I stared kind of blankly and I know that it’s because for me I saw what was meant to be there... And that others will go in and think that Grindelwald is just another super bad villain. And he is, he kills without blinking and his followers know what to do without him saying anything to him. He has people under his thumb and it’s just so real and there it’s kind of heartbreaking. With Grindelwald and his subplot we begin to see the plot that I’ve always feared and it’s Rowling handling WWII and the Holocaust. And yes, I’m glad that as a historian I could see the monikerings but honestly I do not want her to touch this specific topic because it shouldn’t be romanticized for  a fantasy story. Full stop. Moving on to Tina. I’m neither displeased or pleased with her presence and I say this as a person who was REALLY just there for Tina/Newt/Jacob/Leta in the end and want more rompy adventures. I was incredibly leery on Tina in this movie because the Newtina angle was super pressed by all sides and Kath had a habit of talking about how much ~newt hurt her~ and the whole thing about the American papers writing Newt was engaged to Leta came out... And I kind of groaned because, well, I’m sorry not talking to Newt over jealousy is a really dumb shitty stupid thing and I was gonna be mad if that was the reason. It was a part of the reason they had a falling out but the more prominent one was that in their letters something heated happened and... Newt essentially called Aurors (and thus her) murderers and Tina took offense to that. Reasonably. And with letters taking a long time we know how that can be-- So they didn’t sort it out until they meet up again. Tina is very hard towards Newt because of this and I know for a lot of people this is gonna make her seem awful. And honestly even to me it’s kind of eye-rolly at times but it is what it is. She’s in the movie enough but her role feels, overall unimportant, because everyone is there for the same reason (Credence, except Newt who only came over for Tina).  But since we ‘re talking about Tina I will say that her moments with Newt are very nice. I speak from a shipper’s prospective but not the lens-- I see this because it’s very obvious they care about each other and Newt is more openly ready to spout his feelings for her (he calls her beautiful to Yusuf, shows her the picture and tries to express how he feels about her). Tina’s still hurt but she does soften around him when they actually talk and appear amused and understand him.  I think these moments are important because it’s about them reconnecting and for this pair that’s what the movie is about-- Finding each other and reconnecting. Neither one of them actually truly have an impact on the mainplot... Which is Credence finding who he is. LIKE DON’T GET ME WRONG. I  love Newt/Tina/Etc but if you cut out their subplot in it eventually everything that happened would have happened. Because this entire movie was staged by Grindelwald. He wanted Tina and Newt present at his rally, but they didn’t actually influence the main plot at all. Which is kind of honestly sad because frankly I’m not there for Credence. I know fandom loves Credence but honestly the sexualizing of him turned me off ages ago... I do think he has his importance and I honestly feel this movie was built to make him the main character in the next movies... But I’m not moved by him. Do I feel bad he’s abused? Absolutely. Do I think he deserved anything he got? No. But Credence is violent and yes we can go “it’s the Obscurus” but he openly abandons the one person who befriended him and tried to help him, who told him he was something more than he was born... And he  did it because “that man knows who I am”. He’s so focused on an identity that he ignores the people who genuinely care and what to look out for him. For me his reveal as a Dumbledore was as shocking to me as everyone else, but I’m not impressed with it. From what Dumbledore says early in the film it’s guaranteed Credence will eventually die so thee’s that. But it just feels like a plot that is rather unnecessary and honestly if Credence is gonna play a major role in this series it’s odd that he was outright ignored in HP in any historical context. But it’s... Whatever there to me, honestly, that storyline will continue and it will be what it will. I think these are most of my complaints with the movie and honestly the things I liked I really enjoyed-- Leta’s story was heart wrenching, Jacob being the wingman was great and fun as hell, Newt trying not to tell Tina she had salamander eyes made me giggle, and Newt telling Dumbledore off was the greatest thing since sliced butter but... I’m disappointed in how they treated Nagini. Kind of meh about the main plot. Absolutely hate Queenie Goldstein right now. While I respect the way in which Leta died I also just hate it? But I mean they killed a lot of nameless people in this film guess they had to balance it. Seraphina cutting off “Grindelwald”’s tongue was savage as fuck and I’m there for that. The tonal change was expected but definitey a ride... And mmm I just wanna go back to the campy adventures of Newt and co?

So I watched Crimes of Grindelwald...
...yesterday, opening night (in my country), after a long day, and all I got from it was confusion, a bit of anger and this water bottle:
Tumblr media
(and yes, I doctored the image because, just like most of the film, it has dull, dakr colours. I hate it, thanks) Full spoilers beneath because I am just pissed (I think I will think about the positives separately).
So... let’s start with the ladies. Leta Lestrange.
I will only mention it in passing that here is another Slytherin character getting the shaft, because as much as it bothers me, this is not the point here. By my count there are three black characters named AND with speaking roles and Leta is one of them. (the other female chara is Seraphina Picquery who is gone after the first 4 minutes, the third is Leta’s half brother’s but we’ll talk about him later)
So anyway: her background story: Leta’s mother, a beautiful black woman of high aristocratic standing was coveted, Imperioed, abducted and raped by Corvus Lestrange, Leta’s father, and I think she died while giving birth to Leta. I think this is the point where someone should have talked to JK about slavery, because if this story is raising redflags for me, a white European, it must be obvious in the US. Gosh. Going on Leta’s father remarries goes on to have another child, that child needs to be taken to America bc Yusuf Karma, Leta’s half brother, swore an unbreakable vow to kill what’s dearest to Lestrange. So now roughly 10 year old Leta is on a boat to the US with a half-elf nanny and the baby that refuses to stop crying and she trades the baby off with another baby boy on the ship (she intended to do it just for a little while) and then the ship sinks and the baby brother drowns. (Sidenote: the switched away baby is Credence). The image of the sinking baby is Leta’s boggart (good luck making that funny). In Hogwarts she was a troublemaking outcast whose only friend was Newt, and as an adult she is described as someone who nobody in the wizarding world loves. Also, she has this thing with Newt where she is totally in love with him but for some reason she is going to marry his brother? She also works at the ministry that is portrayed as one of the bad guys and oh yea, she dies at the end after a fake-out “will she join Grindelwald?” moment. She supposedly dies to protect Newt (Theseus?? I don’t know, her last words are “I love you” and she is looking at where both of them are standing together, so we shall never know).   By the way, remember the time Leta was described as a taker by Queenie? Apparently, her “being a taker” involves her thinking she doesn’t deserve to be loved by Newt because she thinks of herself as a monster. Also, apart from her backstory scenes she doesn’t do much regardless of how her backstory is kind of important for the central mystery of the film and how the final showdown takes place in the Lestrange tomb.
Now, next up is Nagini. Remember all the outrage caused by the sudden reveal that Voldemort’s snake used to be an Asian lady who turned into a snake against her own will? Remember how people brought up the submissive Asian woman trope in connection with that? It’s worse in the movie. After Credence and her escape from the circus where she is held she does nothing. She is just there to be Credence’s comfort blanket. She transforms into a snake twice: once in the circus and once when she is attacked but that doesn’t do much and Credence has to save her. (btw, I don’t blame her for it. If i knew that one day I won’t be able to turn back into a human I would, too, try to spend as much time as a human as possible.)  Also, two more things: she and Credence are posed as this couple and we are supposed to be feeling bad for her when Credence goes with Grindelwald to find out about his past rather than build a future with her. But their relationship is already undermined by the fact that Dumbledore says (I think it’s him) that the obscurus grows in absence of companionship and friendship and if Credence were to get it, it would disappear and in the film, Credence still turns into an funky looking angry black smoke bomb so...  REALLY hoping she gets a TON of development in subsequent movies.
Queenie... Queenie is portrayed as a date rapist here. There is no tiptoeing around it. She enchants Jacob (presumably with a love spell that incapacitates him to the point he cannot cut his own food up) so she can whisk him away so they can get married because Jacob didn’t want to take the risk of marrying her and her being taken to prison for it. Jacob asks her when she planned on releasing him, when they were married with five kids? And Queenie has no answer for it. You know who else did something like this in the HP universe? Merope Guant, the woman who gave birth to Voldemort. Not a company you wanna be in, since it is heavily implied that it was because of the love potion she used that Voldemort became what he was. Also, can we just point out that Jacob already loved Queenie and just wanted to protect her and Queenie’s reaction to this was to take his free will and his ability to disagree away from him?   Queenie ends up joining Grindelwald to create a world where muggles can marry wizards, but Jacob calls her crazy for it and rejects her when she suggests that and she still goes! Her decision costs her the reason why she’s making that decision in the first place! What are you hoping for at this point, Queenie? Another enchantment?
I don’t really agree with this sudden shift in character, but oh well. Also, now apparently Queenie also has trouble with her legilimens abilities that can overwhelm her.Don’t know how I’m feeling about that, but how the fuck is a legilimens who can READ PEOPLE’S MINDS gets duped by the bad guys?
The other female characters I didn’t see enough of to have an opinion and TIna I mostly liked. She is finally showing bits of the badass auror she could be. Good luck competing with a ghost for Newt’s love though. She and Newt are portrayed as this “we are just getting together” couple but I always felt like Newt would ditch him if Leta wanted him back. Even though Tina is a way better fit. Liked their parallel scenes with the monkey-koi-kitten thingy.
 Now onto the men.
Yusuf Karma. Yusuf swore an unbreakable to kill what is dearest to Lestrange after he abducted and raped his mother which resulted in his father going insane. He assumes that most precious son is Credence so he is just going after him and at more than one points he says something along the lines of  “I have to do it, it’s either him or me”. This is not even the proper avenger philosophy because it is literally true, because if he doesn’t kill him the vow will kill Yusuf. Ofc, since a large part of the story is about sympathizing with Credence and wanting to save him Yusuf is portrayed as a villain for a lot of the time.  Also, while I’m throwing stones, isn’t Yusuf’s mother the “woman in the fridge” trope? Put there to create angst for a male character? She isn’t even the one Leta is angsting over. It is literally just Yusuf (and his dad who is never shown).
Sidenote: Grindelwald has an Asian henchmen, who is so unimportant that I had to look up his name on Imdb (it’s Krall nolastname) who is the only one of Grindelwald’s followers who dies in the fire (fiendfire??) Grindelwald uses to test the loyalty of his followers. It was foreshadowed but I still don’t get how he betrayed Grindelwald because he wasn’t even on screen long enough to do so. It’s almost like he was only put there to die. BTW, I don’t even think there were any more notable Asian characters apart from him and Nagini. Good representation there JK.
The other male characters I didn’t have much of a problem with. Newt I liked, Jacob was okay but was better in the first film, Theseus was an asshole but the Leta angst worked and I came to like-pity him a bit, Credence I felt for...  Surprisingly even Grindelwald worked. Even though he always looked like he was just about to fuck whoever he was talking to. I don’t know how I feel about Johnny Depp in the role, but at least it looked like he put in some work.
 And now the plot.
So many fucking fake-outs. The whole plot is a fucking fake-out. So according to the plot Grindelwald is looking for Credence in Paris and Credence is looking for his birth parents and his true past. And there is this whole confusion because the half-elf servant of the Lestranges’ is the one who signed his adoption papers, and for a while it is thought that Credence is the lost Lestrange baby and Yusuf thus wants to kill him, but then Leta’s backstory is told and it turns out that this whole treasure hunt leading us on was pointless because it turns out that Credence is not a Lestrange and Leta has no idea who he is. At which point Grindelwald offers tot ell Credence who he is and Credence goes with him and BAMM, you’re Aurelius Dumbledore, Credence, Albus is your brother and wants you dead.  HOW???!!! So I read up some theories here but here is the thing, none of the theories that were born so far manage to help this shit make sense. Like, okay, let’s see the flimsy proof for it: Albus Dumbledore says that when in dire need a phoenix will come to a Dumbledore ans Credence finds a little bird and at the end of the film that baby bird turns into a full fledged phoenix. Cool.   But also, this scene ties Credence thematically to Newt, who also was shown nursing a baby bird (although a raven, which is the Lestrange emblem, so please @me any crazy theories about how that foreshadows that Credence is a Lestrange and how Newt will save him or how Credence is a Scamander or even ship things. all three would make more sense than Aurelius Dumbledore does)  So, the first reaction from people seems to be “Grindelwald is lying to get Credence to go after Dumbledore” because we know that he thinks that Credence is the only one who could kill Dumbledore. I am leaning towards this but at the same time I REALLY hope it’s not true. Why? Because then this whole fucking movie is pointless. Credence’s arc throughout the series would just be this shit: Credence you are an unimportant squib, no actually you are a powerful obscurus, no actually you are the lost Lestrange baby, well actually you are Aurelius Dumbledore and then presumably, actually I lied I have no idea who you are, probably just a nobody who just happened to be strong.   I can totally see it go this way, I feel like it will go this way, but can we just lay off the clichés please? Anyway, prime points supporting this conclusion apart from logic is: Grindelwald was looking for a much younger obscurus than Credence, a.k.a. he could not have been looking for a lost Dumbledore, Grindelwald knew about the Dumbledore family legend as well so he could have faked the phoenix (??), thematically this whole “your past is not as important as your future and it does not defy you” theme would play into this.
Now there are of course other theories, like “he truly is a Lestrange and the elf-lady had to die to hide that fact and the records were manipulated” but so were Leta’s memories then? Also, the elf-lady had to die so Credence would have no choice but to walk into Grindelwald’s trap for answers.   My favourite one has to be “Credence has Ariana’s obscurus in him” simply because of the how? That goes against HP canon, that goes against obscurus lore and that goes against Fantastic Beasts timeline. So... yea, I hope it is true, because at least that would be interesting. If we gonna go crazy go full crazy.
Last but not least there were a few elements that mildly annoyed me. Like Yusuf having a weird eye parasite, which I read as a fake-out as to why he needed to kill Credence, but which went nowhere. The “Newt has an assistant at home who is in love with him went nowhere. And the best of all, Grindelwald is going to be brought down because a fucking niffler stole his fucking jewelry that binds him and Dumbledore to not fight each other. What the fuck is up with that.
Also, I just remembered it, which is a shame, but Grindelwald was campaigning for a wizard take-over by showing the future a.k.a. World War II to his followers, including the atom bomb, and saying this is what will happen if the muggles are allowed to rule themselves. CAN JK ROWLING PLEASE NOT LEAN INTO THE WORLD WAR II AND NAZI REFERENCES FOR ONCE??? Just once, look at the real world parallels JK and walk away! Fuck.

Letters Over Seas ~Gramander
Percival and Newt have been friends for a long time. When both of them enter the war they keep in touch through letters until they can finally meet again. While away they realise their feelings for one another and know they will act upon them as soon as they are reunited.
Percival had known Newt almost as long as he had known Theseus. He and Theseus had being friends during their school years through a school program to make friends over seas. Most people in his class had lost touch with their pen pal pretty quickly but Percival and Theseus had kept it up. Percival heard all about Theseus’ creature obsessed mother and brother and how his little brother kept getting into trouble at school because he kept trying to sneak different creatures into his dorm room. Theseus was lucky he caught his brother most of the time before he managed to get them inside and talked him out of it. Percival first met Newt at the same time he met Theseus. The pair had been talking for a year when Theseus invited Percival to his for the summer. Percival quickly agreed and had a wonderful summer with the Scamander family. He practiced quidditch with Theseus and let Newt take him on creature hunts through the woods near his house. Percival was surprised to actually find some small creatures and have Newt tell him everything about them. After that summer Percival found himself writing letters to both the Scamander brothers. Even when school was over he kept in contact. When he told Theseus that he was joining the war he wasn’t at all surprised to get a reply back saying that he was also joining the fighting. But he definitely wasn’t expected news from Newt saying that he was also joining the war.
Dear Percival,                I’m not surprised to hear about your joining of the war, and I knew ever since the fighting started that Theseus was planning on joining right the way. I had no intention in any sort of fighting but ever since I heard about the dragon training I couldn’t help but be curious. I’ve not stopped thinking about it and think I am going to sign up. I feel I could be a great help as I’ve been studying them recently, and hopefully I can teach the other recruits about them and the dragons wont be hurt. I’m quite excited to finally see a dragon, I just wish it was under better circumstances. Maybe one day I will see you during the fight, it would be nice to see you again. Keep me updated as much as you can, I want to know you’re alright.                     Yours, Newton Scamander.
Percival read the letter a couple times over before he was certain he had indeed read it properly, Newt was joining the war. Precious, loving doe-eyed Newt was going to be fighting. No, not just fighting, fighting with dragons. He was worried, instantly concerned. The fighting was dangerous enough but add dragons into the mix? Trust Newt to go one above everyone else and make things ten times as dramatic. He smiled at how excited Newt sounded in his letter but still couldn’t contain his panic. If anything happened to him… Newt was one big ray of sunshine, Percival couldn’t imagine him being around such tragedy and terror.
Dear Newton,                 Your brother has wrote to me about your joining the war, he is worried and so am I, but I am pleased you seem excited about meeting the dragons, I know how much they fascinate you. I never expected the war would be your scene and I hope you are safe and well and don’t have to face any fights, confrontation isn’t your thing. My regiment has been in a couple of battles already but so far nothing too major, only a few minor injuries occurred but I am fine. I hear your brothers regiment is doing well and has already beat back one of the enemy camps, he seems pretty thrilled. Write to me as much as you can Newt, I wish to hear all about your dragon taming and to know that you are well.                    Yours, Percival Graves.
Newt has smiled ear to ear when the mail boy had brought him his letter from Percival. He had been asking everyday if there was any mail for him he was starting to give up hope. Maybe he had been injured? What if he was laying hurt somewhere or worse? But finally his letter came and he knew that for now Percival was safe and well. Newt was full of confused feelings recently. He was so worried about Percival. He kept telling himself that of course he would be worried, they’re friends. But something felt different, his heart ached, in a completely different way it did for his brother. He found himself wondering what he’d do if anything happened to the man, how he would cope. But Newt tried to talk sense into himself, his feelings don't matter right now, he had more to worry about.
Dear Percival,                   The dragons are absolutely the most amazing creatures ever! They’re so big and powerful and they’re not even half grown yet! No one seems to understand them how I do, no one dares go near them. Just last week one of them actually tried to eat a soldier! But they have never tried to eat me, I’m quite proud, I think they see me as one of there own. Their training is going well, but I don’t think I can use them the way the regiment want me to. Not only because it is morally wrong but because dragons just don’t work that way. They are wild creatures, they shouldn’t be ridden into war and made to right a humans battle. They wont listen to battle commands and I have yet to try and climb onto one. But I am enjoying studying them nonetheless.        I am happy to hear that you are safe and well, although word of your battles has me all the more worried. How will I know if you get hurt? God forbid that ever happens. Theseus has also told me of his battles and I am equally worried about him. But I know you are both great and powerful wizards and will be just fine.                 Yours, Newton Scamander.
Of course Percival hadn’t expected the dragon taming to go as planned. He couldn’t imagine dragons to be the most patient animals. He only knew from Theseus that he wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone about the dragons. Newt had some how forgotten to mention that it was top secret and no one could know his identity. Theseus had tried to tell Newt not to talk about it in his letters incase they fell into the wrong hands, but Newt was too excited not to talk about them.
Dear Newton,                  I’m happy to hear that you are enjoying yourself and that no dragon has tried to eat you, yet. Please be careful trying to climb on them, I don’t know much about dragons but I can guess that they aren’t used to being ridden that way and I’d hate to hear of you being hurt by one of them.        My regiment is going out on a mission in the next couple of days and I’m unsure of how long I will be gone so please do not worry about me if you do not hear from me for a while. We are going deep into the dessert where I’m sure no owl is going to find me. I’m sure all will be okay, it isn’t a dangerous mission so hopefully fighting will be at a minimum. I look forward to returning to your reply and hearing all about your adventures.                 Yours, Percival Graves.
Percival had told him not to worry but how could he not? He was now a hundred percent sure that he was in love with this man and now to hear that he was going on a mission and wouldn’t be back for a while was terrifying. Not knowing when he would next hear from him or if he ever would again. Percival had said it wasn’t a dangerous mission but that doesn’t mean anything. People could die from falling down the stairs in their own home so dangerous mission or not, Newt was going to worry.
Dear Percival,               I can’t help but think of you everyday and wonder where you are and pray that you are okay. I know you said not to worry and I hope you know that that was a pointless statement and that I am doing just that anyway. What would I ever do without you around? I feel the need to see you again and would love to meet after the war. Once all this fighting is over we will arrange something. Maybe this time I will come over to America to visit you. There are so many American creatures I’d love to find and study!        Talking about creatures, the dragon taming is still going well! I have climbed atop one and it flew a couple inches above the ground before landing and trying to shake me off. I still don’t think I will be able to fly them into battle as planned but even riding one for that short amount of time was the most amazing thing. How many people can say they’ve rode a dragon? Please write me as soon as you get back, I await your reply eagerly and nervously.            Yours, Newton Scamander.
Percival was gone for longer than any of them had anticipated. A mission that should have lasted them two months at the most had been drawn out to last five. With no word from neither Theseus nor Newt where he was he spent most of his free time pacing and worrying. Were they okay? Were they safe? He knew he had no word because no owl could find him but that still didn’t stop the crazy thoughts swirling around his head. When they finally got the news that they were heading back he almost jumped for joy. He would get his letters! He’d get his news and his fear would be put to rest. But then, dread crept in. What if he got back and there were no letters? Or if he got a letter saying that there had been an accident, that Newt or Theseus or god forbid both of them had been injured or killed. He bit his nails down to the core one his journey back but the send he arrived two letters were thrust into his hand and he tore them open eagerly, smiling at the contents, both brothers were okay, as far as the letters said anyway.
Dear Newton,               I apologise for a such late reply. My mission lasted a lot longer than anyone had anticipated, I am sorry I worried you so and would like to make it up to you. All is well, no one was hurt and we have been informed the fighting is coming to an end, I haven’t felt so happy in a while. Nothing would make me happier than you coming out to visit me after this war is over. I need some light in my life and heaven knows you are sunshine walking.        I’m pleased you finally managed to ride a dragon and equally pleased that you were unhurt during the process. I’m sure when you come to visit we can find lots of creatures for you and you can tell me properly all about the dragons.            Yours, Percival Graves.
Newt was thrilled. He finally had a letter from Percival after over five months of waiting he finally knew that the male was okay and alive. The grin never left his face as he tore open the letter and read it over and over again. He didn’t even care what it said just the fact that he knew Percival was alive was enough for him. He had almost convinced himself that the man had been killed in action, his letter was nearly three months late.
Dear Percival,              I got the news last month that our regiments days were coming to an end. They have asked me to stay on but I have politely declined. The dragons are not going with them and I do not feel that fighting on the frontline is something I am up for. I will be home this time next month. Theseus is staying on right until the war ends. I am proud of him but equally worried.          Please write me as soon as you are home and I will come and see you right the way. I think about seeing you every day and it’s the only thing that keeps me going throughout the long days. You’re my last thought at night and my first thought in the morning. I cannot wait to see you face in person again and not just in my own thoughts.              Yours, Newton Scamander.
Percival could relate to Newts letter on every level. He too thought about Newt day and night and even dreamed of seeing him again. He was sure he’d known long before the war that he loved Newt but he never dared admit it to himself. Love was something he didn’t do much of especially unrequited, but knowing Newts feelings for him just brought his own surging forward.
Dear Newton,             I plan on going home as soon as my regiment finishes and returning to my auror work. I feel my time in the war is coming to an end and I need to go and help elsewhere. It is my pleasure to invite you to stay with me for as long as you like. Writing to you will be the first thing I do when I land in America once again. I’m excited for the day I get to see you again but until then dreams of you will have to do.             Yours, Percival Graves.
Exactly two months later Percival was stood on the docks watching the giant streamliner pull into place, anchor down and roll out the walk ways. He’d been marking the days off on the calendar to Newts arrival. He stood bouncing on his heels with pure excitement, one hand shoved into his pocket the other holding flowers. He watched people come streaming off one by one. Of course Newt would be one of the last. He appeared on the walk way, ginger hair messily atop his head, blue coat billowing in the wind, hufflepuff scarf tight around his neck and that signature suitcase clutched tight in his hand. Newts eyes scanned the docks and landed easily on the male stood with the flowers. His grin was immense as he hurried down the walk way and nearly ran towards the male. No words were said, each male just scooped the other into their arms and they held each other in a tight embrace. Breathing in the others scent, a scent from years ago which was never forgotten, and they stood like that for some time, happy for each others company and needing no words to show how they felt.

I just love seeing Eddie smile, I wonder what he found funny here though.

And when he laughs, he laughs with his eyes and his whole face.

Every time I see this GIFF, in my head I hear Eddie going wah wah! Like a duck. I know that’s not really what he’s saying, but I can’t see details so well because the picture is so small. So it just looks like he’s opening and closing his mouth, in the way a fish would. I can’t help it. It’s just how I see it. I do wonder what he ACTUALLY said though. Lol!

ID: Eddie holds Callums hand as Callum is dangling off the edge of something. Eddie looks at Callum and then turns to the camera saying something that makes Callum laugh.

I love seeing Newt smile. So glad he smiles more in the third film. Someone must have heard me making jokes about making a petition to get Newt smiling more in the films. Lol!

I need the next Fantastic beasts film to have these two in it. I need lots of bonding between the brothers. A scene very similar to the deleted scene in Newt’s house please. Perhaps make that scene nice and long, and sweet with the brothers singing and laughing, and having a nice time together. I’m still not happy about the scene with the brothers bonding over the qilin in Newt’s house being deleted. We the fans, the proper fans demand film 4 with more Scamander brothers!!! And don’t make me wait!!!
The film is about Fantastic beasts isn’t it? I mean that’s what the tittle says, and these two are very fantastic beasts and we’ve found them, now give them to us now!

My #1 post of 2022
I’ve just seen the scene called Newt’s house, and WHY DAVID WHY???!!!
