in regards to the constant dismissal of his aroace identity, i hate it when alastor 'fans' say and use the excuse: "he's fictional, he won't get offended."
like, you're right, but it can and will offend us.
when you see yourself being represented on screen, of course you'd feel enthusiastic about it — representation allows individuals to see themselves reflected in the media they consume, validating their identities and experiences. but when so many people take that representation and decide to disregard and discard it, it is so fucking frustrating. we finally have another character to be part of the tiny amount of representation we have, but then people don't even care about how much it means to us? like yeah, alastor won't get offended because he's not real, but it frustrates and annoys us. do you realize that it's also technically invalidating the aroace community? that you're invalidating our feelings? imagine feeling like you're finally being seen because your orientation is finally being represented in media, and people just decide to blatantly ignore, discard, and invalidate it.
media has such a powerful influence on real life, representation being a prevalent factor of it. there are numerous posts that dictate how people went to watch a movie/show or read a book just because a character depicts their identity in it — obviously, being represented is an incredibly uplifting and validating experience.
which is why seeing an aroace character in a popular show is so meaningful to us because we live in a world where romance and sex are literally everywhere and prioritized above all else. (and it's pretty obvious that alastor's on the repulsed end of the spectrum, but even if he wasn't, at least make an effort to acknowledge his sexuality instead of continuing to portray him as allo; aroace folks can be in relationships but it's not going to be the same thing with allos' experiences.)
any and every representation matters, but why does that seem to stop at people under the aroace spectrum? like y'all can't even let us appreciate the scraps of representation we have. we barely have any, so are we really that dramatic for being upset at how people easily disregard and dismiss our identities that are being depicted on screen just like that? is it truly wrong of us to want to defend and maintain the little representation we have?

🥀About The Alastor Reqs...🥀
yall im kinda at a standstill on the alastor reqs in my inbox rn bc i have gotten a few alastor smut requests and i lowkey don't know how to handle them im sorry 😭 i promise i'll be posting some more alastor stuff soon but im just working out how to respectfully write alastor smut, bc i dont want to be disrespectful
ik ace people can still have sex and enjoy sex, but i also want to be respectful to ace people who are sex repulsed and to alastor's identity in general. as an allosexual person i just want to be supportive the best i can, but i also do want to write these requests too
if any aroace peeps (or anyone in the asexual community in general) would want to be a beta reader or basically just look at my alastor fics before i post them, pls feel free to reply to this post or shoot me an ask- i just really want to make sure that i'm not overstepping or being disrespectful, cuz i love alastor and his character, and i wouldn't want to stray away from his asexual identity just for the sake of writing smut
sorry this got so wordy, but hope yall at least kinda understand what im saying ???? (also tiny side note this is not meant to be derogatory to anyone who sent in alastor smut reqs i promise im not upset w anyone! im just trying to take my time and do the research- i will still write them to the best of my ability, but i WILL be writing from the perspective that alastor is in the asexual community- whether that be demi-sexual or an asexual who isn't sex repulsed, or anything in between)

hey guys am i allowed to say on main that i dont like metadad . am i gonna get beaten up for saying this.
guys i think we all took the term found family too literally and now everythings flattened into a boring nuclear family. guys can we stop. hello . is anybody there
#text#it was kinda charming at first but it feels like everytime i try to look at the mk tag its always the same shit . guys. guys.#we can do so much more w/ their dynamics than just dad and son ugh its so . ughhh.#every since i realized i was like . really really aroace. ive started to grow a bit of a distaste for shipping culture#this is relavant i swear. iwanna talk about metadede#like ok in fandoms right. theres often#the enforcement of specific roles onto characters for a simplified understanding of them for memes and drawing ideas#we want gay rep but we dont quite have it canonically so we make our queer headcanons seem more legit#by giving a char a same sex partner. ok easy we did it. gay people are real now#and we get awesome art and its wonderful bc people are wonderful#but its like . the relationships themselves feel flat a lot of the times.#metadede never seems to be about dedede. its about mk having a boyfriend. bc we need him to date someone.#and im not like . mad at anyone about this. i participated in it back in the day. but like.#ok so. gay hcs are the most popular in most fandom things bc its easy; hot; and sweet#but things like aro or ace hcs? its just. they. how can you depict that in a single framed drawing of a char?so theres none at all.#its not even that i actively hc chars aroace its jsut this is my world view; how i default to reading chars#maybe this rant in the tags is unrelated after all.#but idk. ive got lots of thoughts about things.#anyways as ceo of meta knigth im right about everything#i can talk more about metadad stuff specifically if people want

every time i see a post that is like "ughh why cant we have aspec characters who aren't aroace for once" I have to do a double take like "is the aroace rep in the room with us right now?" because genuinely....where is all this aroace rep y'all are complaining about? Why cant i find it yet it's apparently the only aspec rep we get?? You admit that TV never says the word aromantic so where is the aroace rep. So far I've pretty much only seen canonically asexual characters and not much else buddy.
#text#half the time i think these ppl see other aspec ppl saying that x character feels aroace and then they take it as canon rep#instead of an interpretation of the character which likely was never meant to be written as aspec at all#because majority of people don't even know what that is#this isn't me saying that we shouldn't have aroallo or alloace rep btw#this is me complaining about people throwing aroace ppl under the bus because apparently we are 'hogging' all the representation in media#and it just reads as people being aphobic towards aroace people specifically and it drives me insane#you can ask for more aroallo and alloace characters without complaining and shitting on aroace characters????#like bro we are all on the same fucking team. we are all trying to get seen and understood. we all want to see ourselves in media#stop fighting like one of us is somehow way more privileged than the other because 'you have x rep'#we all have crumbs my guy. just because someone else is getting crumbs doesn't mean that its your crumbs being taken.#idk i see so many posts like this and it makes me feel so unwelcome in the aro and ace communities#im tired of aroace people being used as a scapegoat that you can target to pretend like you're punching up#when in reality you're just committing friendly fire against people who are on your team#i miss when the aro and ace communities used to like... work together as a big aspec community#now ppl r way too focused on separating them and acting like they have nothing in common and don't have the same goals#and both communities now tend to put a lot of blame onto aroace people because of stereotypes we never had control over in the first place#it's exhausting#like the aphobia is coming from inside the house#i didn't go through the ace discourse on tumblr to deal with this shit.

genuine question! How does making an angel dust x fem reader fic actually take representation away?
angel dust is still gay in canon, a random fic doesn’t change that.
people headcannoning him as bi or pan also doesn’t change that he’s gay in canon.

I’ve started to see a lot of aspec dissing aspec about a certain canon aroace character and the treatment/erasure of said character’s identity. (Wether certain treatment is erasure, etc.) We get one well-liked and thirsted after main character and we suddenly argue with each other over what should/shouldn’t be done with said character.
We need more aspec rep, desperately. If we had good representation from a variety of characters in a variety of aspec identities, we wouldn’t need to fight over one- everyone could have their representation without arguing that representation for one part of an a- spectrum is erasing the existence of other parts of the same spectrum.

dude i don't really care if people ship aroace characters just please acknowledge that they're aro and/or ace. like,, aro and ace people still can and do enter into relationships of various types at times and not every aro or ace person completely lacks attraction anyway and some date even if they do, so like, ship them if thats what you want but please just be respectful.
just acknowledge that the character is aro and/or ace. do some research about what that might mean for them if you need to. treat those characters in a way that respects their identities and doesn't completely brush them aside.
im just tired. we can be in relationships. we can not be in relationships. we are still aros and aces. dont try and erase what little representation we get.
i would like to note that i see things in this way because i have never seen a 'professional' writer (like non-fanfic or not a small online creator) specify where an aro/ace character sits on those spectrums or how they actually view relationships of any type. i've also never seen any 'professional' writer's characters get to explore or express that part of themselves enough in their stories to give much better an understanding than just "not really interested in sex or romance".
if a more specific understanding of a character was provided and it meant that that character wouldn't be involved in romantic and/or sexual relationships or was repulsed by them than yeah, I wouldn't want people shipping them at all but i dont think i've ever seen that so thats not what this is about.

ik I’ve already shared many star wars thoughts today and this may be an unpopular opinion but like ... I kinda hope we don’t get din being paired off with a love interest at any point in the series. I know that we’ve already had canonical romantically inclined moments between him and omera and obviously I’m very much a dinluke and dincobb shipper but in terms of actual canon I much prefer the prospect of din just never needing to be placed in a romantic relationship? maybe it’s just me being aroace on main but there’s something quite gratifying about having a character whose story doesn’t have to involve romance to be ‘interesting’ or whatever and having relationships with other characters that are equally as - if not more - compelling than romantic ones. I think it’s refreshing to have stories in media that aren’t saturated with romance and instead with these more familial bonds and platonic friendships that work so much better than having characters be thrown together into a romance that just feels inauthentic. and personally I think that giving din a love interest would ultimately subtract from the character growth and development arcs he’s already currently going through and the familial relationship he has with grogu. like here’s a man who is grappling with religion, fatherhood and the unexpected responsibility of leading a culture still reeling from the effects of genocide and throwing a romance arc in there just doesn’t make a lot of sense (plus media does not always have a good track record in regard to prioritising romance above all else). listen I just think we have a perfect opportunity here for a character to just ... not be expected to fall into a romantic relationship (and who could maybe even be aroace) and I don’t want favroni and lucasfilm to fuck it up by throwing him into a conventional romance arc alright.

Thinking about how even stories with aroace representation like Heartstopper and Loveless are almost... inaccessible?... to ppl who can't/don't want to watch or read romance. Watching Heartstopper was genuinely difficult for me due to the secondhand embarrassment related to "being in love," and romantic revulsion, but I still had to push through it because I had heard there was a character exploring their own aroace-ness near the end of Season 2. Which is FANTASTIC. I'm very glad they included that, but I don’t want to have to do that for the chance of seeing ANY representation whatsoever. There should be stories without romance at all imo, so maybe recommend some... 👉👈

vincent charbonneau is also aromantic: a personal interpretation and analysis from one aromantic
i'm scared of this not reaching the right people, but i just finished dead plate + got all the endings, and vince as an aromantic allegory is so relevant that it's driving me up the wall! keep in mind as you read that this is just my interpretation :)
the use of cannibalism as a metaphor in dead plate is interesting, as it usually illustrates a very obsessive love that someone has for another person or object, to the point where they let it consume them whole. however, i think you can also interpret the cannibalism as an obsession for trying to give the love that is expected of you.
"I've been told I don't cook with love -- which is a sentimental and meaningless review in the culinary world. I'm a professional chef, not a parent making a meal for their kid."
he can't cook "with love." i assume that he cooks by following precise formulas and measurements that guarantee flavour. flavour he can't taste. flavour he has read about, somewhat understands in theory, but can never experience for himself.
however, this doesn't mean his cooking is bad. he is critically acclaimed for his culinary skill. he opened la guele de saturne in his early 20's. it's no doubt that he's respected and feared in the world of food, but even with several awards to his name, he's told he's missing something. something supposedly crucial. something he doesn't give a damn about, but bothers him nonetheless.
"I can't stand eating. No matter the ingredient, no matter the recipe, everything tastes the exact same. It tastes like nothing, it makes me sick. But with… With you… maybe…"
there are several different interpretations of this scene, but i personally read it as vince living a delusion where if he keeps at it, keeps trying, forces himself to understand, he will eventually find what he's been searching for.
but he won't. it just doesn't work like that. not for him.
"If everything so far has tasted nothing to you, what makes you think I'll be any different? If you're really doing all this just so you can taste again, when it turns out I'm just like any other, what will you do? You would have killed her. You would have killed me for no reason. Are you really ready to deal with that? If this is your idea of trying to make yourself happy, I don't think you'll ever be full."
and rody was right. it wouldn't have mattered which part of him he tore off, it would have all just tasted the same. the same nothing. the same wave of disappointment and frustration would wash over him again and he'd be left a hollow shell with the knowledge that he had killed a person, he had eaten a person, he went through the whole ordeal, and it got him nothing. any hope that maybe this will be different, this won't be like the previous, would be crushed under his own heel.
to me, vince's obsessive search for his sense of taste is an unending search for this something you will never get. in the same way he will never taste, i will never experience love or romance in the way everybody expects me to. this isn't to exclude aros who do experience romantic attraction or do have healthy romantic relationships, and it's not to illustrate being aromantic as something unfulfilling or negative. but you can't deny that this acceptance carries a LOT of weight, and sometimes, denial is sweeter than making peace with it.
vincent charbonneau is my personal aromantic allegory, and whether or not it was intentional, i honestly felt very seen in his character, and i think that is so so important :) hopefully this all made sense,, if there is anything strangely worded i will make it clearer!

my dad said “you’re just mad because bo-katan and din seem to like each other”
NO because to make bo-katan a love interest for din is to take away her whole character and to dumb her down to the person that din’s character does not NEED because the whole appeal of the mandalorian is about din’s connection with grogu and to just add bo-katan to try to spice the story up is just a play on old clichés and it’s boring and dated and i don’t WANT romance. the whole appeal of star wars, esp the mandalorian, is how typical romance isn’t the focal point of the story, it’s the characters development. and to make din and bo-katan to fall in love just takes away all of bo-katan’s development and makes her seem like din’s housewife that he returns to and I WANT BO-KATAN TO STAND ON HER OWN!!! whether you like her or you don’t, she is a fantastic character and deserves proper development and NOT a romance story

I know it's cool to shit on BBC Sherlock now or whatever, but even at a time when I didn't know I was aroace, to have a main character of a show who was an adult with a job, who was considered attractive and was a genius, be openly a virgin and admit he had no interest in romance was really important to me? I know he self-identified as a sociopath but it was more than clear that he wasn't one and idk... the show did not handle it well at all, and some aroaces hate that people call Sherlock aroace rep but like... it meant something to me, I guess
