I mentioned this briefly but while Sev asking Voldemort to spare Lily definitely wasn't his finest hour because he was willing to trade her husband and child, I still think it must have taken serious balls to ask voldemort to spare a muggleborn for him. And I've kind of got to admire that haha. While I believe Severus was most likely on an upward trajectory among the DEs during this time due to his skill, I doubt he was inner circle the way Bellatrix or Lucius Malfoy were, he was pretty new and also a poor half-blood with no status-- we know Voldemort coveted markers of pureblood status like heirlooms, and it was Bellatrix and Lucius that he entrusted with his horcruxes. I tend to think Severus was a pretty low-ranking Death Eater, even if he was climbing the ladder (relaying the prophecy can't have hurt, and it seems like voldemort was trying to position him as a spy inside hogwarts, even though he knew that as DADA professor he'd only last a year)

I have to think that Sev knew that asking voldemort of all people to spare a random mudblood, pretty please, for me, was a long shot. He was desperate, and I think he immediately realised that this wouldn't work and went straight to Dumbledore as a contingency plan-- but he had to try all avenues. And I think he was smart enough to realise that "I'm in love with this muggleborn woman pls dont kill her" would not go over well with Voldemort. At best he'd be laughed out of the room, at worst he'd be killed on the spot for possible disloyalty/being a pathetic mudblood simp, rendering him unable to save Lily.

I think Sev was smart enough to know that he had to frame his request in a way Voldemort would understand. I imagine he straight up told Voldemort that he wanted to fuck her and that she had rejected him in school so he wanted a chance to right that "wrong", likely he was pretty disgusting about it just to make it believable. I highly doubt Voldemort would go out of his way to spare anyone even for his closest followers like Bellatrix and Lucius, let alone a muggleborn and a sworn enemy. But we see that he did at least make some effort to comply with Sev's request, which makes me think he was probably amused enough by it to give Sev that little bit of consideration. Framing it as a selfish, purely physical passing fancy (a story Voldemort clearly bought) was really the only option, because if Voldemort thought his servant was actually emotionally attached to Lily that would give him more reason to kill her, not less.

And, inadvertently, Severus asking Voldemort to spare her was what gave Lily the opportunity to choose to sacrifice herself and save Harry. Which is kind of wild. Not that Sev's motivation and methods weren't twisted and selfish, but idk I kind of gotta give credit for the bravery and cunning involved here like it's cold as fuck

I'm back talking about Harry Potter and Snape's worst memory because while I hate the author y'all bug me.

Snape worst memory isn't James bulling him or string him up in front of the school, (that was bad I'm not saying it wasn't) it was Lily ending her friendship with him because he called her a Mudblood. With evidence.

To prove my point we have to go read the Deathly Hallows when Snape gave Harry his memories! We get to see the scene again but this time the thing that sticks out the most is Snape calling Lily a Mudblood. Now if that's not enough proof the next memory goes like this.

*Outside Gryffindor Tower*

Snape: I'm sorry

Lily: I'm not interested

S: I'm sorry!

L: save your breath... I only came out here because Mary told me you were threatening to sleep here.

S: I was. I would have done. I never ment to call you a Mudblood it just-

L: Slipped out? It's too late. I've made excuses for you for years. None of my friends can understand why I even talk to you. You and your precious little Death Eater friends- you see, you don't even deny it! You don't even deny that's what you're all aiming to be! You can't wait to join You-Know-Who, can you? I can't pretend anymore. You've chosen your way, I've chosen mine.

S: No-listen, I didn't mean-

L:-to call me a Mudblood? But you call everyone of my birth Mudblood, Severus. Why should I be any different?

*Lily leaves. Memory ends*

The next memory is Snape becoming a turn coat for Dumbledore so he could keep Lily safe because Voldemort wouldn't spare her.

Snape has had worse experiences then a teenage James Potter being a bully (even if it was shitty). so we look at the rest of the memory and lo and behold what do we see? The actual worst moment of Snape life, the moment he lost Lily forever.

It’s like everyone in the world is slowly expanding. Whether it’s as a person or personal opinions and beliefs, or anything really. Books, cinema, wtv wtv. It’s like the Harry Potter franchise stays at the same spot never moving. Because the creator never moves. The creator is one of those people you can’t whatsoever talk into anything. When she says something it happens or doesn’t whether you want it or not. And you’d think that’d be good. But the creator has this mindset that’s unacceptable . But somehow she created the masterpiece. Beautiful world. And though it’s so beautiful and amazing. It stays- still. Do you get me? It could be so much more if she was out of the picture. There’s so much being stopped with the wave of her hand. Imagine what we could have. Imagine the ideas in your head that could become reality. It’s like she’s stuck in the frozen world. She’s repeating and repeating and repeating instead of moving forward and creating. So we’re stuck rewatch her. Disappointed and bored.

Thunder rumbles ominously above the castle as Bellatrix makes her way through old halls. Her heart is hammering against her ribs, she needs this to go well. It will go well.

With her are Rowle and Dolohov. Her heels are sharp as they meet stone and her gaze halts on what she sees before her.

“Well, well.” She utters, turning to Dumbledore as she brushes past Draco with a touch to his stiff shoulders and coming to stand beside Delphini, “what have we here?”

“Hello Bellatrix.” The headmaster says coolly, “dare I ask how you managed to gain access to the castle?”

“Hello Albus.” She says quietly, though she doesn’t answer his question. Delphini would know the tone well. Bellatrix has a predator’s gaze and a tigress’ bloodthirst. Still, she offers praise, “Well done, darling.”

Dumbledore’s gaze flits from Bellatrix to Delphini and Bellatrix lets a smile come to the edge of her lips. He’s attempting to no avail to penetrate her mind.

“Don’t do me the discredit.” Something between a snarl and amusement curls the edge of her lips and Bellatrix can’t help but bemuse herself as he realises the resemblance is too strong. Grey eyes turn to Draco then, who still has his wand outstretched, “well?”

Before either of them can say anything, Snape speaks from the shadows, face curtained by greasy black hair, beady black eyes moving from Bellatrix to Delphini to Draco to Dumbledore. He is attempting to assuage Draco’s anxiety. Bellatrix feels anger curl up her spine but now isn’t the time to spit violence.

“Enough, Snape.” She says in a snap, “if Draco doesn’t have the guts—”

Her eyes turn to her daughter. This is what she was born for. They both know it.

“Do your father proud.”

Right off the bat of meeting, think about first impressions: Dean is shoot first ask questions later. A wizard? Time to die mf. Sam on the other hand is like “Wait, he hasn’t done anything! Let’s just talk to him and figure out what’s going on”

Right off the bat, Dean is not in Snapes favor, but Snape isn’t up Sams ass either. It takes a lot more than patience to impress our bat bitch

When Dean finally does agree to talk, what do we all know comes next? A self righteous, snarky remark. Strike mf two. Meanwhile Sam looks annoyed or mildly uncomfortable with whatever Dean said because they are, in fact, standing in front of someone who could kill them in one word. Literally. Now he’s trying to change the subject and ask what’s going on and the standard “making sure you aren’t a threat” questions. Snape is a double spy, he can read body language. Sam does not approve of his brothers behavior…but he hasn’t said anything about it either

Give or take 30 minutes to an hour, what’s the next thing Snape is gonna notice? Deans attitude towards Sam

Sam has demon blood in his veins and is outcasted and shamed for it, even by people who are close to him. Sam has been putting up with Deans sideways remarks and straight up abuse for how long? He makes excuses for Dean and when he DOES stand up for himself, he always apologizes or feels guilty about it. Remus and his lycanthropy! We saw in the books how they made sideways jokes about it. Joking about the full moon and shit. Then we have to remember “The Prank”

Sam sees how overly violent Dean is about hunting, he also sees how unfair and cruel he is. He ALSO sees how that unfairness and cruelty extends to friends. And while Sam actually does say something, he never says enough, and usually makes at least one excuse for Dean…Remus “Bystander” Lupin!

Sam was told that he was someone’s weapon at least twice in the show (Yellow eyes and Lucifer). I mean that sounds a lot like how werewolf!Remus was used as a weapon to almost kill Severus in “The Prank”. Just saying.

Severus knows all too well that a person’s intentions don’t always match their actions, so I don’t think he’d judge them for hunting, but he will notice the INTENTIONS. Dean hunts for sport and Sam hunts to save people. Difference.

I had an idea for a fanfic

Severus becoming a death because his close friends were some how made to join or had joined not thinking it would be bad. So he joins in order to protect them cause he can't bare to lose anyone he cares about.

Now Severus is risking his life protecting Klaus Mulciber (Klaus isn't his real name), Evan Rosier, Regulus Black, Wes Don Avery (Wes Don isn't his real name), and Rabastan Lestrange. In doing so each of them, in turn, has also risked their life for Severus which leads to their death or capture.

It also leaves Severus with three portkeys, a house, and a strange locket which was given to him before they each met their fate.

Here's how he gets the portkeys, a house, and the locket.

The first portkey

Klaus Mulciber gave Severus his family ring which acted as a portkey during a mission gone wrong. Severus had been hit by a spell which knocked him unconscious and instead of leaving him like the other death eaters told him to, he ran to his aid. He killed the auror that attacked Severus and in a state of panic afterwards he tried to shake Severus awake but to no avail, he then looked for Sev's wand when the other Auror's began closing in.

In stead of using the portkey Klaus picked up Severus and ran, after awhile he was hit with a hex that caused him to fall. He pulled Severus close to him and held his face in chest given that Severus's mask had fallen in the fight. As the Auror's took them in they had difficulty prying Severus from Klaus's arms. Once Severus began to stir Klaus placed his ring on Sev's finger and muttered out the word that would activate it. Severus who was barely conscious mumbled the word back in confusion and was transported to an unknown location. Klaus who had let go of Severus inorder to stay behind was then arrested and sent to Azkaban.

The second portkey

Wes Don Avery had given Severus a family necklace that he turned in a portkey. It was given during a raid, Wes had gotten badly injured and was very close to death, Severus had found him and insisted that he could heal him. Tho Wes knew it was over for him. He pulled the necklace from his pocket and placed it into Severus's hands, he held his hand and told him to go and how to activate it. With tears forming in Severus's eyes as he watched the life leave from Wes's, he held onto Wes's body and activated the portkey. Once they arrived in Avery Manor Severus broke down, he kissed Wes's forehead before contacting his family so that they could bury him.

A home

Severus had healed Rabastan after he and a few death eaters had walked into a trap. Considering that this was not the first time that Severus had saved him, he decided to gift Severus an abandoned two story home from his family. The house had been forgotten and Rabastan decided to tie Severus to it should he ever need somewhere to go for safety. Not a few days laters Rabastan was arrested during a raid and sent to Azkaban.

The third portkey

During another mission gone wrong, Evan and Severus hid there Evan placed his family's ring into Severus's hand. Both were exhausted from the fighting and were unable to stand, it didn't help that they were injured as well. As the Auror's came close Evan kissed Severus, promised him that he will always love him even in death, and imperio'd Severus and made him to activate the portkey. Severus with tears streaming down his face activated the portkey with extreme sadness and was gone. The next day he caught wind of Evan's death and had hid away in the home Rabastan had secretly given him ignoring the calls of the dark lord, his will to live slowly fading.

The locket

Kreacher had managed to find Severus and begged for his help. He told him of the plan that Regulus had and this caused Severus to panic. Somewhere along their lives he saw Regulus as a little brother and he be damn if that boy got himself killed. Kreacher quickly took Severus to where Regulus was and was able to reach him before his demise. Severus had grabs hold of Regulus after he had drank the potion and held him close. He casted a series of spells to knock Regulus unconscious and took him to the secret home Rabastan had given him. There he took care of Regulus until he well. Once Regulus was safe, kreacher gave the locket to Severus and explained that it held something evil inside. Confused Severus spent his time studying it and creating a potion to help Regulus over come the one he had drank.

Eventually the way he gets them would be memories and it would kinda start with the death of Lily and James, Dumbledore and Severus happen to meet at their house at the same time. Severus is upset and is confused on how the dark lord knew where they were hidden (for the sake of this story we'll say that Peter told Voldemort the prophecy and not Severus)

Dumbledore: I'm afraid the dark lord knew of their location because of Sirius Black

Severus, confused: Black?

Dumbledore: *nods* He was their secret keeper

Severus: *laughs hysterically like a mad man with tears in his eyes*

Dumbledore: *stares at him in concern* Sever-

Severus: You've got to be kidding me!!!! Do you even hear yourself!!!! I hate that blasted mutt but even I know he'd never sell out Potter!!!! You've gone mad!!!!

They argue more but eventually Dumbledore changes the topic by stating that Harry is to be placed with Petunia. This tho starts up another argument between the two. Dumbledore eventually silences Severus claiming it's for the best and takes Harry to Petunia's home. Severus of course follows which causes Dumbledore to sigh.

Once Dumbledore leaves Harry at Petunia's doorstep he leads Severus away because he can see the look in Severus's eye that shows he's plotting something. They apparate away but after a minute or two Severus apparates back to Petunia's home and before she could answer the door and sees Harry, Severus rushes to the doorstep and snatches up the basket that held Harry.

From afar he notices Petunia open the door, look around, and then close the door with an annoyed sigh. Then Severus apparates away to his secret home with Harry in his arms. Once Harry gets settled, he asks kreacher to watch while he went out in search of Sirius.

During his search he finds that Sirius is in Azkaban, he manages to sneak into Azkaban and provide Sirius with a note and a ring (Mulciber's ring). The note states that if he wanted to see his godson to say -the activation word-

Sirius, who desperately wants to see his godson, without a second thought activates the portkey. He's then taken to the secret home and is shocked to see kreacher there. Kreacher leads him up stairs to where Harry is but Sirius stops in his tracks when he catches a glimpse of his brother in one of the rooms there. He runs in and goes to brother and tries to wake him.

Kreacher takes notices and goes after Sirius, he pulls him away from Regulus and says that he's resting and to leave him be. Sirius wants to argue with the elf but the sound of a baby crying stops him. He suddenly remembers why he's here and runs towards the sound of the noise. He runs into a room and sees Harry crying, because of the noise, and goes to pick him up.

Kreacher, under the instructions of Severus, changes Sirius's appearance so that he could leave the home to get supplies for Harry. Severus returns to the home in secrecy to continue to care for Regulus and to provide Sirius with funds to care for Harry.

Years go by and Harry grows up believing Severus is his guardian angel. Severus shows Harry the joys of magic in secret, and when Harry speaks of him Sirius thinks that Harry has an imaginary friend. Severus changes Harry's appearance to match Sirius and when he has to go hogwarts, he leaves a note for Sirius instructing him to send Harry there.

Sirius does just that, with Harry new appearance and name he attends Hogwarts and is shockingly sorted into Hufflepuff. Harry writes to Sirius stating what house he's in and that his guardian angel was right, that he was gonna be in Hufflepuff. Sirius is confused but doesn't question it, tho he's a little bummed that Harry isn't a Gryffindor.

Eventually around the end of the story Severus learns why Regulus went after the locket and manages to the get the other horcruxes. Once they've been destroyed and Voldemort is gone, it's then revealed that Severus had been taking care of that and that he was Harry's guardian angel. Not only that but it's also revealed that Rabastan had been residing in the home as well but had never made his presence known. He connect the room, next to Regulus, with his inorder to be able to check on him in case Severus isn't able to stop by.

Since Harry is a horcruxe himself, they take him to the goblins in hopes that they can help him. They of course manage to remove the soul and destroy it and all is well. A few days later Regulus finally wakes up after years of slumber and is reunited with his brother and everything ends happily.

it's still sunday until i go to sleep, right? right.

anyway, @felixantares tagged me in this so while I've technically peeled off to work on LTL for a bit, I'm going to share this segment of what was originally going to be my submission for Dark Marauders Fest, which isn't abandoned so much as... put on pause.

A month's detention. James didn't know what was more galling about it: the fact that was all that Snape had been punished with after nearly killing three students, or the fact that Sirius was also expected to serve. Sirius, who was still in the hospital wing, still knitting his wounds. They'll heal, Pomfrey promised. They'll scar, Remus corrected, because he wasn't so much a glass-half-empty sort as he was acutely aware that glass is fragile. Sirius was wrapped in bandages, cracking jokes that weren't landing and Remus had picked all his nails bloody, and Peter was desperately trying to pretend everything was normal. But James — James was fuming. He paced their common room like a caged beast, Dumbledore’s words echoing in his head: we’ll need to inform his parents, of course. Professor, you can’t—! Legally, they must be informed. How they choose to respond is… out of my hands, I’m afraid. He had to know that Orion and Walburga Black would never countenance a werewolf to bear their blood. That Sirius had already shamed them by Sorting into the “wrong” house, consorting with the “wrong” people. That they’d already been threatening to disinherit him. That they were no strangers to scrubbing away perceived stains upon their oh-so-noble lineage — Dumbledore had to have heard the rumours, just as James had. And yet he'd penned the letter all the same, sending it out the window with a tawny owl and onward towards their doom. Sirius might die — would, if his parents (and society at large) had anything to say about it. Meanwhile, Snivellus — whose fault this was to begin with — was writing lines. The gall.

There are many segments I like better than this but they're honestly super visceral? So instead you get James POV haha.

Anyway, I've missed Sunday by a mile by this point (technically) but @black-sparroww @allalrightagain @femme--de--lettres @mkaugust and anyone else who wants in can join in.
