What Radiant Order Non-Stormlight Characters Would Belong To

As requested by anon. :)

If non-Stormlight Archive characters had the opportunity to bond spren, what orders would each of them belong to?

(I’m a Edgedancer, by the way, per the quiz!)

1. Vin: Windrunner

As pointed out by @itmakesssenseincontext (here), Vin literally thinks The Words that make someone a Windrunner, as she vows to only use her power to protect those unable to defend themselves. So. Like. If there had been an Honorspren around, she’d be a Windrunner already.

2. Steris: Elsecaller

The Elsecaller order is about self-improvement, and it attracts people who are quote "less flamboyant" and more serious, like scholars. Their spren are logicspren. I think this order would suit Steris very well!

3. Wayne: Edgedancer

This is per WOB! I mean, I do see it. Wayne’s power is essentially Super Empathy, as he can make himself understand other people’s perspective in order to pretend that he is one of them. Plus, he literally cannot forget the man he killed, creating elaborate and unhealthy rituals to remember him forever. I guess he does have healing powers too; I dunno if that’s part of the reasoning. Per Brandon, the other Edgedancers would find Wayne “strange,” but come on. Wayne & Lift would get on like a house on fire and would possibly literally cause that.

4. Sazed: Bondsmith

This is one of those that just felt right to me immediately, and then I just had to sit and try to figure out why. I think partly it's because Sazed literally bonded two very disparate Shards together into one, which feels very Bondsmith of him. But Sazed also cared a lot about connecting people and helping people understand other cultures, so there's that as well. I suppose the other one I could see for Sazed would be Edgedancer, given that he makes it his mission to save all otherwise forgotten religions. But I'm going Bondsmith as my number one choice.

5. Shai: Lightweaver

WOB has Shai as an Edgedancer, which I found shocking. I mean...the artistry? The literally becoming other people in order to be ready for various situations? The one last-ditch personality whose entire purpose is to craft an intricate lie to hide Shai from herself??? To me, Shai is a Lightweaver through and through. But per Brandon, Shai is an Edgedancer. So I guess it depends on who knows this character better. A random person who blogs or the literal author.

6. Wax: Skybreaker

As a lawman, basically. Plus, there's the whole conversation between Miles and Wax where Miles tries to convince Wax that if the law is unjust, you have a duty to oppose the law and Wax is like, "Nuh-uh shut up." (Since that so mirrors Kal and Moash, I can understand teh Wax as Windrunner argument, but we can't have ALL the protagonists be Windrunners!)

7. Marasi: Truthwatcher

This is almost certainly just me--I so strongly headcanon Marasi as an investigative reporter that I can't even remember the truth anymore. Ironic, I guess, given the subject of this entry... If I wanted to try to justify this, I guess I'd say Marasi does have a canonical interest in discovering the truth...but yeah, I don't expect many to agree with this one!

8. Rashek: Skybreaker

Had to include this one, as it's a WOB. Not a very good one, per Sanderson, but a Skybreaker nonetheless. Let's all imagine Nale having to deal with Rashek, shall we?

9. Vivenna: Stoneward

Vivinna does feel very Windrunner to me, given her bro chemistry with Kaladin. But the Stonewards are about being where they're needed, about being dependable and good team players, about making the best of a bad situation. I think of Vivenna showing up on a whole new planet, seeing a city without leadership, and being like, "Sure, I'll take over the city guard and forge a team of incredibly loyal guards until it's time for me to move on and go to the next place I'm needed."

10. Ranette: Dustbringer

Mostly because of the tinkerer angle--dustbringers are interested in knowing how things work, plus their power is inherently destructive and so requires careful control. And Ranette, you know, makes guns 'n' stuff.

11. Bleeder: Willshaper

The Willshapers are about freedom--for themselves, and for others. They want to free those who have been unjustly imprisoned. And oh man. What Bleeder wanted was to free herself and others from Harmony's influence, from the way he could literally take her and others over. So she wanted freedom for everyone and would do anything to obtain it.

12. Kelsier: Edgedancer, Dustbringer, or Willshaper

Sorry to end on a WOB, but I'm fascinated that Sanderson can see so many possibilities for Kelsier. An Edgedancer in his desire to change the world back into a green paradise for Mare. A Dustbringer or Willshaper for self-mastery and determination. Honestly, I'm most fascinated by Willshaper, due to the comment that they believe any law is a form of oppression. That extreme form of freedom really feels like it suits Kelsier, to me.

hey again! thought about this during another one of my exams and honestly u can delete this… had a thought and then it spiralled

thinking about in some universe bambi’s cheering on jaume with a big smile on her face and thinking back to the one time alexia tried to get her to play football… at the end of the day, alexia just gave her a big grin and thanked bambi for trying. it’s a rather fond memory—bambi remembers telling her tia alba and abuela eli that she was sure she liked ballet more… but didn’t know how to tell her mami. either way, alexia never showed disappointment and instead makes time to watch each of her practices, big game coming up or not.

bambi has a ballet recital the following day and she knows her current smile will be nothing compared to jaume’s when he watches her tomorrow—he made sure they had front row seats and he even got alexia to buy him a nice button up shirt so he could look good for this show (she has recitals often but jaume always goes above and beyond to support his big sister.)

thinking about how bambi’s probably bundled up in a blanket next to olga—both of them are sharing some niche sort of chips (no one understands why olga tries all these sort of chips but these are good and they’ve been snacking the entire game) and olga’s suddenly reflecting on her little family with alexia. she thinks back to when she first met bambi and how she brought her a train, and how their relationship flourished from there. now she sits happily with her daughter watching her son (and alexia, who’s screaming on the sidelines for the kids to run up)

congrats on the 1k likes to injured V friend <3 you deserve all the love ever! 🌷 and good luck on the essay. had way too many interactions with bad groupmates and i wish nothing but the best for u and our other bestie too (get to the writing! it’s due on sunday omg 😭)

Thinking about a world where Bambi never got neglected and she had a good relationship with Olga from the start and how different she would have turned out.

Just super supportive mum Alexia who really tries to foster Bambi's interests outside of her own ambitions of football and being ecstatic when Bambi decides she wants to continue ballet.

Thinking about teen!Jaume in his little suit, playing with the buttons because his sister always looks so beautiful on stage in her outfits and he doesn't want her to be embarrassed to see him in the crowd in his own dirty football kit.

Olga spending her evenings with Bambi sorting out new pointe shoes and equipment and helping her try out new hairstyles as they snack together and gossip about how Alexia is trying to take over as coach for Jaume's team because she absolutely cannot keep her mouth shut when she watches.

(I managed to get a decent chunk of my work done/planned so it's mainly just my discussion to finish/research and properly finish off my analysis so it should be done soon so I can prep for exams! 🌷🌷🌷)

omfg i'm sorry to rant but i NEED a sympathetic person to hear this. i like the every single album podcast more than most swifties, but today's ep -- and the last few -- are driving me insane. i am so fucking sick of hearing nathan and nora wring their hands over what joe might deal with. all harassment is bad, but i am done pretending that jake g and john mayer went through….any kind of wringer? they had like...a semi-awkward couple of weeks? jake is still a mega a-lister and john mayer is widely considered to be one of the greatest living guitarists. fuck, what mayer did was outright predatory -- and he's done it to multiple women -- and lbr, he lives 99% of his life totally unperturbed by it. he's not losing gigs or status in the places that matter to him; i suspect a lot of swifties aren't aware of this but i'm a guitar nerd, and uh, yeah, he's considered a living god and no one gives a shit what he did to taylor. and literally everyone woman in the public eye, including taylor, goes through worse every single fucking day, even at their heights of popularity. i don't know how to deal with hearing nathan and nora worry about :(((( omg what will joe go through :((((( when he's never going to have disgusting ai porn of himself explode across twitter on a random weekday. maybe i feel this strongly b/c i work in games, where hordes of male fans regularly ruin random women's lives because they animated a female character wearing a t-shirt instead of a string bikini, but i can't deal with this anymore. these men are fine. lots of people get mad at them, but it's because they did truly shitty things to her and she refused to absorb it silently. then it breaks, and their lives go on.

I feel like Nora really articulated what Anon was trying to say the other day about along the gist of "I hope something really bad happened to justify all of this." Interesting perspectives! Btw I just want to be super clear that I don't think Taylor or anyone has to justify anything like that! Just thought it was interesting how Nora put it in the latest episode and T's power is the unusual part of this equation.

In a very classic "I thought the two of you should meet!" re: today's The Ringer / Every Single Album pod episode.

I will say I read both of these messages before listening to the episode myself and tbh I think Nora ultimately landed in a pretty middle and reasonable place (it started out pretty rocky though) by the end of the episode. My understanding is she ultimately felt like Taylor has every right to tell the story that she wants / needs to tell and the work will speak for itself. That this is Taylor going face to face with the elephant in the room and (probably - we don't know obviously) not obfuscating the reality that we all saw play out in real time behind 'fictionalized' half truths roleplayed by semi-imaginary characters. And at the end of the day the (likely - AGAIN WE DON'T KNOW) reality is that she's prepared to walk through the narrative that is this pressure cooker storyline many are waiting with baited breath for which is the deterioration of her most significant relationship to date.

All that to say is that I think both of these points are incredibly valid. I personally have a lot of feelings wrapped up in it that do tend to come down more on the side of it's strange that the default position is this desire to sign up as first in line defence attorney for a man when the crime as we know it is 'woman writes her life into art'.

Nora interestingly noted that there's a "pressure for this album to come with receipts" (paraphrase) based on this (fan) hyped up narrative of something sinister having gone awry that this album will pull the curtain back on. And if it fails to do that, enter said self-appointed attorneys.

Me watching travesty that was Kung Fu Panda 4.

Under 'read more', I have my full (unsolicited) thoughts on the fourth film - warning, I don't have much good to say about it 〔´∇｀〕;;

SPOILERS! + LONG ASS POST!

So... I'll start with the positives, because honestly, I do love aspects of this movie.

Any scenes featuring Li and Mr. Ping are the absolute highlights of this film. Love them, ship them, hilarious chemistry between them. I'd watch a whole film dedicated to just them.

Though not as funny as the previous films, it’s genuinely funny, like, some jokes are deadass hilarious. (See above for example lol)

Genuinely, the main villainess, the chameleon, has such a cool design and Viola Davis provides such a good voice for her. The animation whenever she transforms is so cool.

Jack Black as Po is just so charming, you can't help but find Po so likeable.

For what little we saw of Tai Lung, he was a treat to see.

Great animation, lovely scenery, love the little animation flairs during the action scenes

Alright, now time for the negatives... Which unfortunately there is a lot of. I’ll go step by step and build up to the bigger picture I’m trying to visualise here.

The Kung Fu Panda

Po’s character arc was pretty much complete at the end of KFP3, when he has his epiphany and finds that his true self lies in not restricting himself to one label, but by embracing everything that makes him Po. His identity by this point is very well realised. Unfortunately in KFP4, the tacked on conflict of him needing to retire the Dragon Warrior title and choose a successor just… Doesn’t make sense for his character at this point. Not to mention, the movie repeats a joke ad nauseam where no one knows who Po is, or of his adventures, jokingly chalking it down to a ‘regional’ tale. You’d think the literal saviour of China would be well known. The world-building feels so much smaller for it. Unfortunately, this movie is very determined to undermine the impact of the last three movies, all to prop up the wisecracking and super cool shitass Awkafina character. Sorry, not sorry, but Zhen is a terrible character just for that reason alone. If Kung Fu Panda wanted to pass the torch down, Tigress or even Tai Lung would have been a much more compelling option, seeing as both were telegraphed to be potential Dragon Warriors in the past. Speaking of…

Tai Lung

Man… The trailers got my hopes up that KFP4 would feature a long awaited redemption arc for the OG villain of the KFP films. Instead, he’s delegated to a cage for half his scenes, and received the barest minimum of character arcs in the finale. Granted, he was still entertaining to watch, but he was totally under-utilised.

To continue the topic of identity, the film missed the chance to ask this: “Who is Tai Lung without his kung fu?” All his life he’d been raised with huge aspirations to become the best kung fu master, and to eventually gain the dragon scroll (which he was denied.) In KFP4, the chameleon summons him from the spirit realm, and drains him of all his kung fu skill. Therein lies the missed opportunity for a compelling character arc, now that he’s been cast out as a supposedly useless body into the real world. And who better to help him figure out his identity other than Po himself?

I could go on forever about the various fanficy rewrites and plot ideas, but I don’t want to let this get any longer. So I’ll talk about one more topic.

The Chameleon

I love her design, I love her voice acting, but compared to Tai Lung, Lord Shen and even General Kai… She’s simply a weak villain. (Too small to learn kung fu… Really?? With characters like Mantis and Viper who deadass exist in the same franchise???)

‘I’m the Chameleon! I do nothing but change!’ holds such potential for a far more interesting backstory. Instead of being rejected for her size, suppose that it was seen by many king fu masters that she simply didn’t possess a true spirit of a kung fu warrior. As explained in this film, their abilities are harnessed in the spirit/soul, not just the physical body. Perhaps she didn’t want to work for those abilities properly. She wanted the easy way forwards. She didn’t want to put in the proper time and effort to become a master of the craft. Spurred on by what she sees as rejection, she learns sorcery to take on any number of identities of kung fu masters. So many identities she could use to fool herself into believing she was someone talented and gifted in the art of kung fu. But it’s only a lie she tells herself. And so, she takes the drastic action, and decides to start summoning these masters from the spirit realm. But even as she slowly grows in power through the course of this film, maybe a strong sense of imposter syndrome starts to set in. These powers aren’t truly hers - what value does a carbon copy of something original have? Nothing. She never properly worked for them and made them her own.

Quick fire round of criticism;

Akwafina’s shitass character

Furious five just tossed aside except for a non speaking cameo. Tigress got done so dirty - if there are gonna be like three more films, they should have been about her

WHAT DID THEY DO TO LORD SHEN’S CHARACTER MODEL

The goofy-ass way he was attacked and then thrown into the cage, the disrespect lol

Li (the victim) and Lord Shen (the genocidal maniac who destroyed his village and killed his wife) somehow existed in the same space and did not get into a conflict.

Why does Kai still exist in the spirit realm? I thought he was literally skadooshed to be extra double dead lol. Like spirit literally eradicated

Akwafina’s shitass character

The villains bowing to Po feels super unearned given how under-utilised they were. I can see it working, just not in the plot we got in the end

Po’s character feels weirdly dumbed down, it’s hard to put my finger on it

Fart joke :(

The innocent and cute but secretly psycho baby bunnies are the definition of anti humour. They’re so fucking obnoxious and cringey

For some reason, the character designs of new characters feels super incongruous and out of place.

The Dragon Warrior isn’t an inherited title, it was given during a time where China needed a hero. Why does it need to be passed down?

i don't think proseka is a very good game. It's definitely not a very good vocaloid game. but i'm addicted to the little pink diamond that says i did a good job playing and i'm normal about mizuki akiyama

I'm the LAST person to suggest that you have to preface every single comment you make about a character/fictional relationship/etc. you like with a reminder that you Know™ it's pRoBLeMaTiC, but I DO question what the point of acting genuinely for real like there were no problems is.

#I don't even mean in a 'what would it look like if this relationship were healthy' or 'what if this character were a good person'#because I think that's interesting to explore and I have several things I'm working on with elements of that #but I genuinely will hear people go 'there ARE no flaws in this thing' with their whole chest in a completely serious manner #when they could just. talk about how they like the thing without that qualification? and I feel like...#...idk. just because *I* am someone who enjoys horrible characters and deranged unhealthy fictional relationships #I feel like it's a disservice to act like there were never any faults or problems or [insert applicable noun here] at all? it gets rid of #the narrative complexity that's present #I was talking to long-distance best friend last night and I went on a rant about how I wouldn't like jaime as much if he actually WAS as #Super For Real Actually A Completely Good Person Who Was Never Flawed In Any Way as some people act like he is.#it's BECAUSE he does shitty things and isn't A Super Good Person™ that makes him particularly interesting #if you want to imagine a version of this story where he doesn't act horribly and is a 100% Stand Up Guy then go for it you don't need to #justify that by saying that that is completely for real without exception who he actually is in canon?#(this wasn't even the example that brought this on. he's one of many MANY examples.)#and you know I could write a story (I won't) where like. idk altena for example. handles her issues and doesn't become The Antagonist™#where she gets therapy and ends up with a fulfilling life where she participates in society as a more well-adjusted person.#but again it would be an INCREDIBLE disservice to the way this character (a complicated fascinating character) is written to act like #she was Always Like That or that this turn of events was intended by the story or that She Genuinely Never Did Anything Wrong Actually #it's less 'oh people are having sympathy for [xyz] in a story context that I think isn't merited' & it's more 'acting like this is the way #the story was all along and the way it was meant to be interpreted all along is a misreading of the text and I don't think that's fair'#mel's media criticism

sitting in my room for a half hour thinking about how if we lived in a better world Ada Wong would be the Ilsa Faust of Resident Evil (primarily in how she's introduced in Rogue Nation), with a dynamic to leon not unlike Fujiko Mine's and Lupin's in which they are both extremely competent and in situations in which they may have to work against and occasionally with each other on a mission, but ultimately are forced to stay apart and while they may be apart and even have different love interests from each other, ultimately still care deeply for one another. They are compelled to go after each other in part because it's so difficult and they are so often in circumstances in which they can't be with each other. The thrill of the chase and all that.

Ada being only tangentially related to the other character's stories because the world is simply larger than them and she has her own concerns and problems to deal with, and to have that be given any care or weight in a story, let alone focus. That she can be cunning and even manipulative but because she needs to and will still choose not to when the chips are down because she is genuinely caring--which I know none of that is new ground for her but I wish it was done in a more interesting way and *without leon at all*. She chooses to show mercy in a key point not because she's in love with that other character.

And also that she has more personality. I dig the subdued nature of her in 4r and her subtle sarcasm but it's just crumbs. I want her to be silly on occasion and say dumb jokes because she's alone like in 2r. I want her to shed a bit of that seriousness when she's on the clock because she's confident in herself as a professional and again has no one to put up a façade to.

It's honestly kinda embarrassing reading this back as I realize most of what I'm writing is not only already present in the games but incredibly tropey in and of itself, and wouldn't improve the character much. Dear god I think too much of my view of the character has been marred by shallow fanworks depicting her. I think if anything it's a sign that:

I'm a shit writer and need to do way more than watch movies and gesture vaguely at them to come up w a decent story or character (that being said as much as I prefer Fallout as a film, I stand by my earlier statement of Ilsa Faust being the ideal spy woman as she's depicted in Rogue Nation as she has a distinct set of goals and needs that are complex and developed largely tangentially to the protagonist's, at least initially).

It's going to take a completely new approach to her character to get something remotely interesting and that takes advantage of her potential.

For as mired in tropes as she and every other character and story in Resident Evil is, Ada could be far more memorable and enjoyable if only there was more care and effort to giver at least some interests and goals (perhaps even...characterization) on her own other than being a sexy love interest and potentially traitorous (as so many femme fatales already are).

#I mean she basically already is Fujiko I just wish it was more fun and gave her shit to do that didn't exclusively revolve around leon #I have a lot of thoughts about leon as a character and as much as I enjoy their over-the-top mr & mrs smith romance also fuck leon #Sighs....I know I'm asking too much from a franchise that has famously bad writing and largely archetypal characters but it's maddening #Mostly to me personally because I love spy shit and femme fatales for how messy and misogynistic the archetype is it's my favorite #So it kills me that a cool femme fatale like Ada who has so much potential as a character is relentlessly squandered #And it's the most annoying thing in the world to me to complain about fandoms/fans but I'll be a hypocrite and vent that it bugs me #How much fan media revolves around a*on and coming up with idealized domestic fantasies for them which can be chopped up to misogyny #And how tropey fan shit is but still it's so dull and often bends Ada into an ideal wife/gf for leon but not explore Anything Else At All #Not every romance has to end in marriage and kids like what about the inherent drama of them being forced apart isn't #Compelling to fans? What I'm trying to say is I want them to have a painfully messy divorce and a game or movie exclusively about Ada #*and I mean like they never marry just break up but emotionally it's a messy divorce that's ultimately for the best given their jobs #Also I am far too out of my depth to go into it but many have pointed out how her characterization often falls into pretty #nasty tropes that Asian women often fall into in Hollywood films which considering how much US blockbusters influence re it's not surprisin #But it's unfortunate and I'd be remised to at least mention that it feels at best dicey to have the only recurring Asian woman be mostly #reduced to a love interest of the white protagonist and sexualized with little else to go off of as a character #Yes she's competent and a super spy and saves his life constantly but I Want More And She Deserves Better #And yes everyone is super tropey and flat and the women in general often take a back seat to male charas but like I said #this whole franchise is badly written and honestly it kills me how women are written in general in re but I was thinking too hard about Ada #And maybe a sign that this series needs an even bigger overhaul than the remakes are doing character writing-wise #Or just don't and jettison the bloated lore once and for all and be episodic and silly b-horror idk if I can care about established charas #Coming back if they're in such dull forms. Maybe the mercy kill option is ideal and have re9 and all new installments be different #Ugh why can't I care about something useful like computers or cooking or job applications

Why I Love Hanamusa

I get this question very frequently but have never given a really in depth, definitive answer. All just kinda implied through my comics and spread out asks. So here's this I guess! Long post ahead:

First, as a Pokémon fan in her mid 20s, I love seeing a ship where the characters are both in their mid/late 20s. Already, they’re much more relatable to me and my current experiences. Most Pokémon ships are between preteens, which can be cute but ultimately don’t interest me as much as they used to when I was a kid myself. Not enough to get super invested in and draw a lot of fanart for anyways haha.

I’ll also start by saying that canon doesn’t always influence whether or not I’ll ship something. I’m much more drawn to potential. Could the characters work together? Do their personalities work together in a nice way? I feel like this so much of fanon is anyways. Especially with queer relationships because they’re rarely depicted in the first place. A lot of the context for these ships is usually up to the fans to piece together or make up in general. And that’s the fun part to me!

Jessie and Delia have only met in the anime a handful of times. Any interaction they’ve had has either been pleasant, or just a typical Team Rocket interaction, with Delia dismissing them/not seeing them as a threat. Already a great jumping off point for me since, truly, they don’t have any actual beef or true, ill feelings towards each other. It’s not TOO out of the realm of possibility for them to potentially fall for each other. “But Jessie chased Delia’s son around trying to steal his Pokémon!” That’s where that dismissive and aloof attitude that Delia has comes into play. I’ll go more into Delia’s whole deal a bit later but I do think this aspect of her personality is a large reason why this ship can work. It’s not that she doesn’t care that Jessie has a bad past, but she can tell that, on the inside, Jessie’s a good person. And, in a scenario where Jessie is trying to become a better person, is forgiving enough to give her a shot. I feel like this is such a solid foundation for a ship. A character who has done wrong but is trying to be better and another character who is willing to help them be better. A classic dynamic!

It’s not just one-sided though; where Jessie is the only one benefitting and learning from the relationship. I believe Delia could get a lot out of being with someone like Jessie. To understand why, I think it’s important to know these characters’ respective backstories.

Jessie is an orphan/foster child who grew up in poverty. Her mother Miyamoto (from The Birth of Mewtwo) was a Team Rocket operative herself, who went on a mission to find Mew. In order to do this, she had to leave Jessie when she was just a toddler. Unfortunately, Miyamoto went MIA on her mission leaving Jessie to more or less fend for herself. Jessie went through life with zero stability, evident by her MANY different careers and constant moving around. It’s implied in the show that she went from foster home to foster home, and later in life tried being an idol, weather girl, florist, wine connoisseur, actress, most notably a nurse and finally a Team Rocket field agent. And even while in Team Rocket, she, James and Meowth were always doing odd jobs to get by. We see that Jessie used to be a sweet kid, and even adult, but the world and her circumstances repeatedly did her dirty, leading her to become the character we know today. Hot tempered, mean, selfish, etc. But despite this, her soft side does still shine through for the people and Pokémon she cares about. She is incredibly loyal.

Delia, unbeknownst to a lot of fans, also had a rough past (see Pocket Monsters: The Animation). Like Jessie, she had a lot of dreams and aspirations like wanting to be a model and even a trainer. But when she was 10, her mother didn’t let her, telling her that she had to stay home and learn to run the family restaurant (she’s an only child). Delia’s father left her and her mother to be a trainer, and never returned. When she was 18, she married Ash’s father and became pregnant shortly after. But right after Ash was born, he also set off to be a Pokémon trainer. And soon after that, her mother passed away, leaving Delia with just the restaurant and baby Ash. This gives so much context to Delia’s attitude in the show. We see that Delia is pained whenever Ash leaves on a journey, but she never shows that pain to anyone. ESPECIALLY Ash. She’s very quick to shoo him off when he shows any sign of wanting to go on another journey and even when he returns home, she acts more excited to see Pikachu than him almost every time. Without all this backstory, it’s easy to just read this as a funny gag, BUT with context, I think it really shows how quickly Delia shuts down and detaches in order to not confront her own feelings. She’s afraid of losing people and getting hurt again.

All that said, I think Jessie and Delia provide each other with EXACTLY what the other needs.

Aside from becoming rich and famous, Jessie’s biggest aspiration is to get married. In my opinion, this is more so an underlying want for love and stability. There is no one more stable in the show than Delia. Delia’s lived in Pallet her whole life, she’s worked at the same restaurant since she was young and she is always there when Ash comes back home. She has all the love, patience and stability Jessie needs and craves. While forgiving, Delia’s not stupid and can keep Jessie in check. Delia’s also just an angel, which I feel, would make Jessie want to be better. And on top of all this, on more of a surface level, Delia’s a chef and excellent cook. She shows love through cooking and Jessie, who grew up poor, regularly starving and eating snow, happily receives that love. Jessie’s able to live a happy and healthy life with someone like Delia.

Delia, as stated, is very stable. Likely pretty monotonous and solitary, especially living in such a small town like Pallet. This isn’t a bad thing but it’s a little sad when you consider that Delia also had dreams of traveling, being a model and a trainer. She had to give up so many dreams in order to fulfill her duties as a restaurant owner and mother. And even now, when Ash is off on his journey, she feels the need to always be home and be that stable pillar, leaving behind any ambitions she had, thinking it’s too late for her (she’s only 29 btw). But then along comes Jessie, dangerous, passionate, an absolute firecracker. Someone who’s whole life has been about chasing dreams and either, never giving up on them or finding a new dream to chase. Upon learning about Delia’s past aspirations, I could see Jessie pushing her towards them, letting her know that life’s too short and she has nothing to lose from trying. On top of this, Jessie’s also loyal. She, James and Meowth are depicted as doing anything for anyone who gives them food or shows them kindness. Delia does both so there’s no way Jessie would leave her. This fulfills an essential need for Delia, who is afraid of the people in her life leaving her.

There’s so much potential for mutual growth and learning between these two and I adore that. They compliment each other, they help each other and they bring out the best qualities in one another.

I’m not really sure how to end this and I could truly talk about them even more but I don’t want this to be tooooo long haha. OH I could end it with maybe the most funny aspect of this ship that I've brushed over and also what drew me to it in the first place. Jessie. As Ash’s stepmom. THE END.

F2 champ 2023/McLaren Reserve!reader

When McLaren announced they were taking on F2 champion as their reserve driver, it only surprised everyone because y/n is a woman and the idea of there being a woman on the grid if one of the McLaren drivers was unable to drive has somewhat shook the F1 world.

It's unlikely, rarely do drivers ever sit out of a race unless hospitalised. Mainly because losing that many points in the standings is not worth the loss overall.

"I like these fireproofs." Y/n comments as she appears from the unit, joining Lando and Oscar.

"You look beautiful in them." Lando smiles taking her hand and raising it to make her do a spin. "You are so pretty."

Oscar has already moved away because despite y/n being the third driver, he is always the third wheel.

"You scared Oscar away again." Y/n sighs before her name is called by one of the comms team. "I gotta go. Have fun actually being in the car."

Lando winks at her withholding the urge to kiss her goodbye as she walks over to the comms girl, Ally. Usually there's not much interest in a reserve driver but usually a reserve driver isn't so focused on but her gender does make her someone they want to talk to.

"So how is the team feeling about the first race?" The reporter asks making Lando puff out a breath.

"Great. Oscar and I are great. We have y/n who is the most amazing reserve driver. Does the sim runs, testing, she is the greatest addition to the team and actually I think she's the best person in the team. Always has a laugh, super cuddly, the smartest person technically I've met to join the team. No offence to Carlos, Daniel or Oscar."

"That's some very big feelings for y/n. I'm sure it feels nice for her to learn all of that." The reporter smiles making Lando shrug with a grin.

"She's amazing to me. I can't talk about her enough. Guess I'm her number one fan and I'm not sorry for it." Lando states continuing to praise her.

It's only in his next interview that he's actually asked about her, although as proven he doesn't have to be to feel the need to talk about y/n.

"So how are you feeling about y/n?"

"She's my new favourite person. From my side of the friendship, she's easily my best friend."

"Oscar has to be hurt."

"No. He's got other friends. I just force y/n to be my friend and keep her away from the other drivers. Wouldn't want them tainting her." Lando jokes not even caring how he sounds, it is actually a joke. Y/n is friends with most of the drivers on the grid. "No, really everyone loves her. But we've really gotten close and I'm so happy to have her around."

After a few more interviews that seem to either ask about the car, his feelings or inevitably how the team is which leads to Lando bringing up his favourite person.

"You are not subtle." Y/n comments as she comes across Lando having herd from the comms team that Lando hasn't shut up about her.

"I'm just talking my girlfriend up-"

"Well the whole point of us keeping the relationship between us is that you at least try your hand at subtlety." Y/n smile, not actually made but finding it pretty endearing. "You know the comms team agrees that for now, it's better not to be airing anything out. As much as I know you really want to display that I'm not up for any other drivers to have. It also wouldn't kill you to compliment your own teammate every once in a while."

"It's not like I insulted him." Lando murmurs earning a small laugh. "Plus Oscar knows."

"He does. So I'm sure he'll take it on the chin. But giving him a compliment wouldn't hurt either."

"Ok, I'll do better." Lando promises before pausing. "I gave him loads of praise last year when he was new."

"Then it shouldn't be hard to keep going with that." Y/n smiles patting his back. "On the bright side neither of us are busy doing other stuff. So the McLaren trio...once we find Oscar, can strut around here."

It's post quali that y/n gets caught by Naomi and Simon.

"You have been the talk of the paddock, or at least the media in the paddock." Simon comments making her laugh and shrug as if she doesn't know exactly what they're talking about.

"Yeah, we expected a strong backing from McLaren. But Lando seems obsessed with you." Naomi admits making y/n puff out a breath.

"I don't really know what you mean, he's very supportive but no more to me than he was to Oscar last year." Y/n states then tilting her head. "I'm just...super happy to have been so accepted into the team. Lando, Oscar, Zak, Andrea. I know I'm just the reserve but they've been, just great. So welcoming and trying to make sure I'm getting to see everything."

"That is amazing to hear. We've made so many leaps forward for woman in F1, but seeing you be part of the face of McLaren. You're so young, just hit 22 right?"

"Yeah, just newly 22." Y/n confirms with a smile.

"I bet Andrea feels like he's babysitting with three such young drivers. Speaking of-" Simon chuckles earning a smile before y/n feels two large and far too familiar hands clap on her waist a voice shouting a boo that does make her jump.

"Zero survival instinct." Lando comments then greeting Simon and Naomi as he's handed a mic to join them. "Zero survival instinct from her."

"Yeah, the mic didn't quite pick up the first time you said it." Y/n hums then smiling. "Since Lando's here I should probably-"

"Stay. Double the McLaren drivers, double the fun." Lando grins making her laugh and smile but even he can tell it's not the most genuine laughter. Then he looks at the hosts. "That's what I find."

"I feel like we're interupting someone." Simon jokes while Y/n shakes her head at them.

"Lando just likes to annoy the comms team. I am going to go, because I promise Laura I'd chat. But you enjoy the main character's company." Y/n smiles giving them each a hug and then finally laughing when Lando drags her into a hug and squeezes her before allowing her to leave.

Lando waits till she's gone to speak into the mic with his own amusement.

"She loves me really. I just like to annoy her." Lando grins then earning a look from the comms girl with him. "Anyway, she'll kill me if I keep talking about her. So qualifying?"

Y/n yawns as she hears the light tapping on her hotel door, Lando's gently knocking just loud enough to wake her up from her dozing.

As soon as he walks through the door, he scoops her up, nuzzling his face into her neck as she wraps her arms around him on top of his shoulders.

"Mmm...Are you mad?" Lando asks earning a very tired and short laugh.

"No. I'm not mad. I love you, even when you insist on being so obvious." Y/n assures him while he kicks the door closed and carries her to her bed, lifting her legs up to wrap around his waist.

He lies them on the bed with her under him while his head rests on her chest and her hand moves up to play with his curls. She also feels one of his hands come up to play with her boob but he suddenly frowns and looks up at her before returning to look at her boob as if he's inspecting it.

"You know, I've only known you 5 months. I've been dating you for 4. But...I know exactly what you boobs feel like when you're...you know." Lando mumbles making her almost choke out on her breath.

"First of all, you can say the word period Lando. You have a mother, two sisters and god knows how many female friends. But second of all, I only just came on when I got back. And lastly, how in the hell can you tell from my boobs?"

"They're a bit bigger, almost like...I don't know they're swollen or something. Do they hurt?" Lando asks seeming genuinely concerned for her like he's accidentally hurting her.

"No-well they're tender, I guess...more like when you press a bruise but not a super bad bruise." Y/n shrugs then clearing her throat. "Did you get in trouble with comms?"

"A little bit, they told me to reign it in. It's not so much the media but fans are going wild about our interactions. At least that's how they worded it." Lando smiles looking up at her. "I figured you'd know about them already because you're a little weirdo who watches every edit of me online."

"You can't call me a weirdo after you just told me you know when I'm on my period from feeling my boob." Y/n snorts gently pushing his head playfully. "But I have seen edits already of you grabbing and squeezing me on the Sky interview."

"That's what I like to hear." Lando grins moving up to kiss her a couple times and successfully roll so he's lying next to her, hiking her leg up to lie on him but so her body is still just nuzzled against his side. "I quite like going about talking you up but no one realising we're actually together. They just think I'm crushing hard and you're playing hard to get."

"Playing? I am hard to get, you were begging me for a date." Y/n teases then squealing when he reaches over to poke into her side to tickle her. "Ah, ok. Not begging, but it took you more than one attempt. Even you have to admit that."

Lando hums then yawning and reaching over to grab the blanket to pull it over them and turn off the lights from the bedside switch.

"Did you just put us both to bed?"

"You're tired, and I know I woke you up. You had that sleepy look."

Y/n smiles holding onto Lando more tightly before she allows herself to just completely pass out and fall asleep.

It was months more of Lando being all over y/n, not even commenting on speculation while y/n would simply shrug and say she just didn't understand the speculation.

The whole thing with the media and fans was beginning to be pretty entertaining.

"We've been dating for almost 8 months, did you know that?" Lando states as he walks into the McLaren unit making y/n look up form the data she'd been reviewing with some of the engineers who look suddenly uncomfortable and like they want to make an exit. "Sorry."

"I'll be right back guys." Y/n smiles then standing up and moving with Lando as she takes hold of his hand as she passes him. "You could choose better timing. But I did know...why do you bring it up? Because I know you wouldn't if you didn't think it was of some significance."

"I just was thinking...maybe..."

Y/n hums looking at him for a moment amused because she knows exactly what he's asking.

"You want me to finally just hard launch us so hard we might as well be one of the Red Bull rocket ships?" Y/n jokes then sighing as she leans back on the wall. "Like I said, your timing is a bit annoying. But I have been thinking about it. I feel like it's not someone that I'm going to struggle with like I kind of thought I might when you first asked."

"You don't have to."

"No. I want to. Plus I'm kind of a little sick of some fans who don't think we'd be good together getting smug online. So I think I'll happily finally let the world know but...I would rather you be the one to tell everyone. I'll confirm as secondary source."

"You speak like an encyclopaedia." Lando grins before kissing her a couple times. "I got a few photos and videos I've wanted to share of you-of the PG variety, get your head out the gutter with that smirk."

"Do I get to see first?"

"As if I'd finally post about you and not get your approval for the go ahead." Lando scoffs then stealing more kisses just to communicate his excitement about it. "Alright, I'm going to warn comms and marketing all about the impending media storm and circus. I'll let you finish up here too, come find me afterwards. Ok?"

"Ok." Y/n nods before being locked into a longer, much more heated and possessive kiss for much longer than the previous short pecks.

"Alright, gorgeous. I'm going. I promise. I won't come interrupt again."

"Thank you. I'll see you in a bit. I love you."

"I love you too. A lot."

And then he rushes off in an excitement.

Y/n spends another 30 minutes with the engineers before she finally gets up moving to find Lando and thankfully finding him tapping away at his phone.

"Boo." Y/n yells but annoyingly has no success in her scaring attempt. "Boo, you're supposed to scream."

"The only one of us making the other scream is me, baby." Lando smirks earning a deadpanned expression before he holds out his phone to her. "Ok, I think I got all the photos and videos. You say the word and the world knows."

Y/n flicks through he photos and videos then groaning at the last one.

"Really? You have to include a video of me drooling?"

"Aww...but you're so cute and you're drooling on me." Lando grins acting as if that makes it any more appealing. "I can remove that one if you really want."

She really wants but Lando looks genuine in not doing it just to rip the piss out of her and it does make it all a little more light-hearted.

"Fine, post it. But I already know I'm never living that video down." Y/n laughs handing it back. "Go on, post it. Preferably now before I lose my nerve and stop you."

That gives him the right hurry up and he just puts caption of red love hearts before hitting to post it. Then turns off his phone and tosses it away.

"Your phone too, no point in keeping it turned on. It's just going to blow up, even if it's not from socials. People are going to be messaging you about it." Lando states and actually she knows he's right.

Y/n gets locked into a Sky segment by Jenson Button, the man who seems to always be around when there's a juicy moment going on in the paddock

"So, when I woke up this morning. Seeing endless posts of the same video of you drooling on Lando Norris was not how I expected to spend my day when I looked at my phone." Jenson states making her smile.

"Well, you're welcome for spicing up your day." Y/n laughs making Jenson chuckle.

"So is this the official confirmation?"

"Yeah, I put it off for 8 months. Lando was ready to just confirm everything from the get go. I do have to say the way people just mistook it for a crush because I'm so good at bluffing. He did sort of counter my efforts constantly because he couldn't keep his mouth shut about me." Y/n grins before shrugging. "But the time felt right now."

"I really have only seen good things. everyone is so happy there's a new...Mr and Mrs McLaren."

"Oh god, that sounds so weird when you put it like that." Y/n shivers before she suddenly finds almost a repeat of history.

Large hands on her waist but this time she doesn't jump quite as much when he holds her tightly.

"Sorry guys, I have to steal her. She's wanted in the garage for something. Is that ok?" Lando asks looking between the hosts while y/n holds the mic to his mouth just out of instinct the camera might want to hear what he says.

"Yeah, of course. Sorry for keeping her from work duties."

"It's not work. When he says I'm wanted, it means he wants me in the garage because he's clingy and needy and now he doesn't have to hide it." Y/n states honestly before smiling. "But I'll take an out when I get it. I'm sure I'll come back and we'll talk later."

The group laugh and agree they'll likely see her later before Lando successful steals her away to the garage.

"So am I going to be called out on camera more often now?"

"Only when necessary." Y/n grins before moving around to look at his car. "Can I get in?"

One thing Lando rarely gets to see but has really grown to love completely. seeing her in an F1 car, specifically his F1 car. But really he'd love to see her in her own.

He has actually see her do tyre testing in one of the old cars. Getting to choose her own number for the testing and fully commit herself to it all.

She chose number 7, because she thinks it's lucky and she liked the idea of having Kimi Raikkonen's number.

"You don't have to ask." Lando states then watching her grin and climb into the car.

Her helmets aren't around so he just grabs his own and places it over her head gently, making sure she sees it coming before he does so since having your head shoved in a helmet definitely needs warning beforehand.

Later on, on their way out of the paddock. Lando and her both stop to sign things. Initially she never used to get asked, but a following has amassed for her and especially in the confirmation of her relationship with Lando. There's a whole load of people who suddenly want to have her sign things. Surprisingly a lot of Lando's mini helmets.

"Hey, I made you this bracelet and one for Lando too. I made them before you told everyone that you guys are dating. But now you get to match anyway." A young woman states brightly looking almost nervous as y/n suddenly feels struck with a slightly new emotion.

She's watched Lando and Oscar, and actually a lot of the drivers get bracelets. But she's never been given a bracelet for herself. Hell she's even been used as a means to give other drivers a bracelet.

"Thank you so much. I'll make sure Lando gets his." Y/n smiles before quickly wiping at her eyes. "These are happy tears I promise. I've just never had someone make me a bracelet and give me one."

There's more than one person pointing their phone at her, proving the embrassing moment of crying over a bracelet is captured on video. But another thanks and she moves over to Lando.

"Hey, I'm just going to go ahead. But a fan made us matching bracelets and I promised I'd give it to you." Y/n smiles earning Lando's immediate attention.

"Thanks-are you crying?"

"I'm fine. Happy tears...I've just never got given a bracelet that's actually for me. Didn't realise it would feel so nice." Y/n laughs sniffling a little before she's yanked forward into a hug that she immediately returns.

"Baby, that's so cute. I'm done here anyway, let's go. It was nice meeting you guys. We'll be back tomorrow. Bring bracelets for y/n if you can!" Lando instructs making y/n tsk since she doesn't want people to be forced to make her bracelets.

After a short ride to the hotel, y/n and Lando get to their room where Lando places down his impressive collection of gifts from fans and ditches them in favour of following y/n into the bathroom since she always showers getting back from the paddock.

"You know, as far as announcements of relationships go. I'd say it was pretty well received." Lando comments making her look at him for a moment as she pulls off her clothes and moves to turn on the water.

"Yeah, I've received a lot of love."

"You have no reason not to. Everyone loves you...They'll probably be saying I've tainted your innocence soon."

"My innocence?" Y/n giggles making Lando smirk as he removes his own clothes. "Just because you have a cocky smirk, doesn't mean you're some big bad man causing trouble and ruining the reputations of everyone woman you involve yourself with."

"Not the reputation...but I've certainly ruined you for any other man...they'll never treat you as good as I do."

"Depends in which department you're talking about." Y/n teases making him raise his eyebrows since he knows she's just trying to wind him up on purpose for her own inevitable pleasure.

"Really, you want to play the game like that? Because I think we both know you'll regret it soon."

"I don't know what you're talking about. I'm perfectly innocent and have no-ah Lando! You can't just-" And she's silenced by a kiss as she's pushed into the open style shower until her back hits the wall.

"I can."
