YOU'VE GOT A HOLD OF ME
guitarist!suna rintarou x assistant!f!reader
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | extra
the ikarus incident (band au)
+ word count: 1.3k
being the personal assistant of the lead guitarist of one of the biggest bands in the country was no joke.
Tumblr media
SUNA RINTAROU being the lead guitarist of one of the biggest bands in the country was no joke, speaking as said lead guitarist's personal assistant. You’re the one who gets dumped all his fan mails, regular mail, and gets bombarded with endless phone calls. You also manage his social media accounts and make sure he doesn't ruin his reputation, at least not too much (you urge him to get a social media manager, he waves off your idea, saying, “Do I need to? You’re managing it well enough”, some days you just want to strangle him).
As of now, you were residing in a hotel– in one of the big fancy rooms reserved for the acts at the band's next performance at this music festival, recounting to him his schedule for the evening, "Right after this we have a meeting with the manager,” you read off of your planner and glance at Suna whose face turned sour, directing his glare on you, “Don’t look at me like that, it's a meeting with the whole band."
Suna Rintarou did not rest the glare.
You glance at your watch to check the time, "You still have over an hour till you're going to the site. During this time, I suggest messaging your sister and asking her how she’s doing. She's been reaching out to me saying you won’t answer her calls and that she is worried about your well being.”
Suna scoffs, “And you believe her?” his sister wasn’t really one of his favorite people since… ever, nor was she yours, from the three times you’ve interacted with her.
“Of course not, but I’d rather she stop bothering me,” you shrug, flipping your notebook to check Suna’s schedule for the following week.
Which included an advertisement shoot and a recording session with the band for their upcoming album. It wasn’t as packed as the other days, which meant you could go home early (you were excited, it’s criminal how you’re excited). Maybe go grocery shopping, you were running low on food in your apartment, which reminded you to check Suna’s refrigerator, it was most probably also empty. You don’t get paid enough for this.
"It still wows me how efficient you are, [name], more importantly, it amazes me how you’ve dealt with Suna’s awful personality for over a year now! No assistant has ever lasted him even 8 months, where the hell did he find you?" Miya Atsumu, the drummer, chitchats as he leaned back on the couch while someone was putting on his makeup.
“Says the one whose last assistant left the country,” Suna retorts, not even looking at Atsumu, just scrolling through his phone.
“That was years ago! And I let Yumi go abroad because she had better opportunities there. I am assistantless of my own free will! So, where did you meet [name]? You guys never told us,” Atsumu counters.
Both you and Suna ignore him as you go over your personal checklist and Suna just couldn’t find it in him to care enough to reply.
“It’s such a great conversation we’re having,” Atsumu says sarcastically, “Can you believe them? They’re both so rude,” He says to the person touching up his make-up.
“What’s happening?” Akaashi Keiji, the lead vocalist, who was talking with the other staff just a few moments earlier, joined in on the conversation, “And where’s Sakusa?” pertaining to the bassist, Sakusa Kiyoomi.
“He’s running late, says he got caught up in a family emergency, but he’ll be here in 10 minutes. Rika texted me just now,” you answer, Sakusa Rika was Sakusa’s PA and cousin.
“I’m really reconsidering getting a new PA, what do you guys think?” Atsumu interrupts once again. “How do you guys even recommend finding one, like seriously, I just found Yumi because my brother recommended her to me but I want to take a different approach this time.”
You get a flashback to the first time you met Suna, you were running late to a meet up with your parents, just got out of your shift at a local coffee shop, a coffee in hand and clutching a bunch of papers to your chest. Wasn’t really one of the brightest things you’ve ever done. The next thing you knew, you were crashing into a body and spilling your hot coffee on a total stranger. Then instead of getting furious the stranger says, “Hm, I have a job offer for you.”
Like a total nutjob!
“Huh?” you were dumbfounded (for clearly obvious reasons), you just spilled coffee on a stranger and he was talking about jobs. All sorts of crazy in the streets these days.
“I need a personal assistant. My name’s Suna Rintarou,” then he gives you a card and he walks away with a single wave goodbye. It took one look at the name on his card and one google search to find out you ran into one of the most famous figures in the country. Said celebrity was walking in the streets? Alone? You didn’t actually think the cap and sunglasses disguise worked in real life.
“I spotted [name] on the streets, I guess I got lucky,” Suna finally answers, standing from his seat to test his guitar out– like he wasn’t just playing hiring-the-first-person-he-sees back then. You need to tighten his security.
You shake your head as you close your notebook and clutch it to your chest. He did somehow get lucky that he bumped into you out of all the people out there in the world, you were great at your job after all. You don’t know why you didn’t immediately put him in the weirdo category the first time you met him and just threw away his business card. You’re a little glad your curiosity got the best of you. It helps that he pays really well.
"That easy? Can you give her to me then? manage my life instead, [name]," Atsumu jokes and winks at you as your lips quirked up to an almost smile.
"Fuck off and find your own PA," Suna gives him the middle finger, "[name] tell him to fuck off."
"Don’t be childish,” you scold, “Also, it depends, how much are you willing to pay me?” you play in on the joke. Suna Rintarou was not amused.
“How much does Suna pay you?” Atsumu smirks, you guess he found it amusing to play around instead of preparing for the show.
You shrug in replace of a proper answer. In all honesty, being Suna’s PA wasn’t that bad. The salary was good. You’ve already established a comfortable dynamic with Suna. You actually liked working for him, even if he is so much more work than the job description said, and it took you months to learn his habits and likes and dislikes. He frustrates you a lot too. Despite this, as much as you’d hate to admit it, you have a soft spot for him.
“Sorry for being late,” Sakusa walks in and straight to a seat where people immediately assist him.
“It’s fine, we still have an hour,” Akaashi calmly says while working on his lyric book.
You take a glance at Suna who is now silently tuning his guitar, you walk towards him and stand beside the couch he’s sitting on. Watching his slender fingers slide on one of his beautiful guitars (that’s probably worth millions).
“What are you doing here? You should go to your new employer,” Suna nudged his head to Atsumu’s direction who forgot about the earlier conversation and was now flirting with one of the newly hired staff. These poor girls, you need to figure out a way to warn them next time.
You roll your eyes at Suna, “I know you’re not actually upset.”
He stops fiddling around with the guitar and looks up at you, “Yeah, cause I know you’d never replace me with someone as unbearable as ‘tsumu.”
“Like you’re not as equally unbearable?” you raise a brow at him.
“The difference is, you like me too much, [name]” you feel as if a vein popped on your forehead, here comes the frustrating part, he was so cocky!
“And you’re so sure of that Rin, how?” you scowl at him.
“Well, for one, you’ve stuck with me for almost 2 years now and you haven’t completely lost your mind yet,” he gave you a little smile and at that moment he was almost cute. Just almost. He still has that cocky look in his eyes that made him unbelievably irritating.
“I’m glad you’re self aware,” you also smile a little at him. You caught his eyes and let yourself get lost in them a little bit.
Then you snap out of it.
You clear your throat, “I-I’ll go talk to your manager,” you turn around and quickly walk to the door to get out.
You remind yourself to build up more boundaries.

Here are my favorite Gym Leaders (and Nanu) to counterbalance my least favorite Gym Leaders!
Kinda debating whether I should have gone with Koga or Sabrina since he does become an E4 member a generation later, but decided to go with him since that came later. Genuinely tough call between those two, but Koga's design and personality just always appealed to me a little more. (Sabrina did scare the crap out of me as a little kid tho in her anime debut.)
Morty has probably had one of my favorite glow-ups in the series. I always wanted to cosplay him, but our only con is in August and I would probably die of heat stroke. 😅
Probably a weird pick, but I always liked how jovial Wattson was. (Tho there is a bit of a facade there, from what I recall he had a bit of a shady past in ORAS with the New Mauville project. That makes him pretty interesting imo.)
Volkner is such a goddamn menace that Lear probably wants to literally strangle half the time, but I love seeing more of that side of him on Pasio! (There's also him being friends with Flint, and having a fun dynamic with him.)
I will forever remember Brycen just throwing hands with Team Plasma in Generations, completely forgoing having an actual Pokemon battle with them. Instant favorite. Kick their asses!
I really always loved Valerie's elegant design, but her personality and wanting to actually be a Pokemon is a lot of fun too.
I would consider the Kahunas a Gym Leader equivalent too, probably just not counting Hala since he's an E4 member too within that Generation, but Nanu is just cool from looking after Acerola, to being a UB hunter within the International Police alongside Looker in his backstory, to getting one of the most morbidly funny lines in a Pokémon game when he meets the protagonist, to kinda being the first dark-type Gym Leader, I just love the dude and he's my favorite Alolan character! I was so happy when they gave him a supporting role in the postgame of SM.
Our first true Dark-type Gym Leader, Piers is definitely my favorite Galar character overall alongside Raihan, and it was a tough call between them, but I really liked how they gave Piers an extended role in the postgame where he was more actively helping the player deal with the Royal Pain in the Ass brothers, so he was who I went with. It's also adorable how he dotes on/frets over Marnie.
Larry is also an E4 member, so I'll probably do one of these and feature him for my favorite of the Paldea E4 (tough call between him, Rika, and Hassel tho), so Ryme is runner-up. Her battle was just a lot of fun with the crowd hyping you up. She had a cool personality too, I really enjoyed her a lot as a character. They never miss with Ghost users.

That moment in Gou where Satoko crushes herself and Rika with the chandelier is peak fiction. Ultimate girlboss lesbian moment.
I’m always thinking about Ryukishi saying that Satoko chose to drop the chandelier this way so they could die in the most beautiful way possible when their hearts were closest and how it parallels Satoko being completely fine with Rika killing her after she heard Rika’s passionate declaration of her love at the end of Sotsu.
I also think the strangling scene in Meguri is very similar to the chandelier in that sense only it’s even more intimate and romantic.
Satoko only decides to go through with strangling Rika after they talk about their feelings for each other, how they’re both the most important person for each other and how they’re both constantly saving each other during the darkest times of their lives. But even then after pinning Rika down Satoko hesitates a little bit. The first time she reaches out to strangle Rika she ends up touching her lips and considers leaning in for a kiss instead but hits the brakes and goes for strangling her in the end.
Satoko knows if she gave in to the temptation of a kiss she’d lose her determination and be forced to face her problems or live an unhappy life which is the last thing she ever wants. Especially after she’s lost hope in a remotely good future.
And just like the chandelier she didn’t really have much of a guarantee that she’d continue looping after this other than Eua’s word, but since she can’t believe in a good future anyway she’s even happy to die as long as she’s assured of Rika’s love for her because love is eternal as long as the people involved die before it can fall apart. The ending of Sotsu is the same.
It’s very similar to Yasu’s murder-suicide and her idea of the Golden Land. Satoko isn’t beating the Yasu-core allegations anytime soon. Or ever.

Saeran's abuse in the Ray Route.
There are several kinds of abuse, and for the Ray Route I believe Cheritz pulled out all the stops. What's worse is this is reflecting the kind of abuse Saeran himself went through.
Yeah, and we're supposed to forgive him for a good ending. Well, we are the ones who wanted a Unknown route, and Unknown is already dangerous, so what were we really expecting? We were getting what we asked for.
Let's break down all the different kinds of abuse explored in the Ray Route. WARNING: This may be triggering for some people, (especially those who have encountered similar abuse in the past) that is why I'm only including this section for those who believe they can handle it.
Physical: the most well known kind of abuse. Leaving marks on another person's body, due to rage or a form of control. Saeran inflicts this by biting us, pinning us against hard surfaces, and later squeezing our arms roughly with an intention of killing us. Saeran's mother apparently did every form of physical abuse under the sun. She pulled his hair, his arms roughly, strangled him, and hit him. He went through every day believing she was going to hurt him.
Neglect: Mainly seen in the form of child abuse, but can be used on older people as well. For starters, we are locked in our room, similarly to how he was tied up in his mom's kitchen. This denies someone freedom of movement. Also, seeing as we are denied freedom of movement, we cannot feed ourselves. Denying food for someone is a good way to make someone weak enough so you can control them, also there is a constant threat of starvation, this way you feel more grateful when they feed you and this can induce Stockholm syndrome. Saeran's mother denied him food and water plenty of times, so much so Rika and V were shocked at the state they found him in. In Ray's route we're denied food enough that we get a little skinnier, enough for Ray to notice (Only a couple days worth, but okay).
Emotional: Very subtle form of abuse, it's where your emotions are not treated with validation. What we do see from Saeran, he treats our emotions as forms of entertainment. Asking to show us different emotions, unsympathetic to how we are actually feeling. If we cry, he laughs; he taunts us into getting mad so he could "mess" with us more. Moreover, he plays with our feelings of love we have for Ray, saying we're idiots for doing so, and saying it's not real when we don't act accordingly. Saeran's mother told him to not be happy just because he was alive, and it made him feel like there was no reason to be happy. His brother wasn't around to make him feel happy otherwise, so he ended up feeling miserable.
Verbal: This one can be overlooked as just spats, but if unchecked can lead to trauma. Verbal abuse is the form of constant yelling, threats and insults directed towards a person in order to make them feel lesser and keep them in line. Saeran started insulting us the first moment he got, saying our smell is terrible, we're terrible, we're an idiot, we're an airhead, we're living in a fantasy, we're useless. He constantly threatens us with cleansing, being to moved to the basement and tortured worse, being killed. In the Bad Ending, he threatens us more by saying he'll get a girlfriend who's better than us. Saeran was also insulted by his mother tons, who called him a waste of space, an airhead, useless, and so on. She also threatened him a lot, mainly under threat of death. She kept telling him that she was going to "throw him away."
Psychological: this one is quite terrifying and dangerous. This is where the abuser makes the victim think they are the problem, where they try to control every aspect of their life (What they eat, what they do, what they think, what they wear, etc), and where they isolate them so the victim can only depend on the abuser. This abuse is usually employed so that the abuser can get away with the other forms of abuse. With Saeran, he immediately let's us know he's watching all of our social activity, hacking in to both a call from V and a chat room with Jaehee to remind us not to say anything. Later he has a camera installed in our room so he can watch everything we do. He makes sure that no other believer can enter our room, just him and the savior. In a later call he tells us he's all we've got, so we have to do everything he says if we want to survive. When he cuts off contact from the RFA, he tells us that the RFA didn't even need us and they don't even miss us. Whenever he's about to hurt us, he reminds us of our "faults:" choosing to go there in the first place, encouraging ray, talking back to him, backing away from him, etc. He tries to control us by telling us to be silent, only saying "Yes" to whatever he says. In the Bad Ending he gives us gifts and then cruelly takes them away saying we don't deserve them. Saeran's mother was similar, in the Christmas DLC he was told he didn't deserve presents because he was a naughty kid. He was constantly reminded of the threat of his father so that he'd stay inside with his mother. Even when his mother died, he was sad because she never left him. His mother constantly demanded his obedience and his silence, wanting him to be silent if not saying "yes" to whatever she said.
Sexual: This involves touching those inappropriately or doing sexual or romantic acts towards them without their consent, or otherwise coercing the victim to take part in said acts, removing their bodily autonomy. This is normally between couples or potential couples, but can be between generational gaps such as parent and child (Those people deserve to burn). This is actually something that never happened to Saeran (thank god), but Saeran likes us. With everything else applied, he's going to be forceful with this one. He bites us on the neck, pins us against hard surfaces, gets in our personal space and tries to get us to kiss him, with threats of torture if we don't. In the 2nd Bad Ending, it's implied this is more recurring.
There is also another one, that is sometimes used, but not often.
Substance: This is where someone drugs the victim without their consent. This is usually done to make them infantile, weak (poisoned) make them vulnerable to sexual abuse, or to make them a doll (for any reason). Saeran endured this with Rika as a form of brainwashing, and wants us to endure it in other routes. Of course in his route, he says we don't deserve it. The irony there, we trade out being drugged for being insulted and threatened.

Umineko EP3. Replay Part 6
It's kind of funny how Battler is lecturing Battler about this like that - in Yasu's eyes the proportional amount of time they would have spent together with George was 0. She didn't think a happy future was possible at all....
Tumblr media
You can tell that Battler is engaging with the game more seriously this time. "Why does magic exist" is a really important question that Umineko does want you to answer!
Tumblr media
You can tell how Battler is sort of starting to idolize Beato - just after demonizing her. I can understand why she considered her plan to deceive him really important. She needs him to understand her not as an evil witch and not as angelic victim who has done no wrong but as someone in between that, as the human she is.
Tumblr media
After going on a huge essay about how he did everything he did for Shannon he's showing that he in fact doesn't really understand her at all. 'Shannon' was most definitely planning to kill herself and reunite with George in the Golden Land.
Tumblr media
lol them saying this right before George is going to die in the same way they imagine Kinzo died. Definitely telling you SHANNON IS A CULPRIT (kind of).
Tumblr media
I do give George a lot of shit but it really can't be denied that he really did love Shannon and that he's trying really hard for his cousins right now. I don't want to make it seem like George is uniquely evil or anything when I give passes to people that have objectively done worse than George and when a huge point of the game is you can't just demonize someone and put everything on them.
Tumblr media
It's kind of funny seeing a work more than a decade old say this like it's ancient history when my own country had cremation be illegal until very recently. Also this scene is cute but also it's funny how the truth it is hiding is "George saw Shannon through the window and followed after her"
Tumblr media
Eva has been trying to distance herself from EVA for a bit but EVA spells it out for us, neither of them is REALLY Eva. Eva is made up of both the cruel greedy witch who wants the gold for herself and spites her siblings and the Eva who realizes her greed has destroyed her and Hideyoshi and regrets everything.
Tumblr media
Hahaha.... it's kind of fucked up to think about it, isn't it? Just when Krauss starts admitting to himself that he has fucked up his relationship with his siblings and that maybe there's nothing he could to fix it.... Eva is putting sedatives in his coffee in order to kill him.
Tumblr media
it's funny how this is the conclusion Rika got during Saikkoroshi -this should show you Beatrice is acting because magic isn't literal in Umineko like it is in Higurashi.
Tumblr media
I kind of wonder how this went in reality... obviously Yasu killed George after George and Shannon reunited.... did they have a conversation beforehand? Was George killed before he could figure out what is going on? I am not sure.... I kind of think it's the latter though. I don't think Yasu would want to risk George's hatred she feared if the truth was out.
Tumblr media
Nanjo is so bad at lying in retrospect lmfao - he is freaking the shit out at being found out lol.
Tumblr media
Ok so, I originally thought Yasu was the one that killed them but it is clear it was Eva from EP7. So my updated line of events is: After coming back from finding Hideyoshi's corpse, Eva suspects Natsuhi and Kraussof of the murder, and realizing they are the only people left towards full inheritance, she uses the sleeping pills she had stolen earlier and strangles them. Afterward, she disposes of the corpses outside and Yasu finds them. She cleans up the corpses and stakes them and puts them in the arbor. When coming back to discuss future steps with Nanjo, George notices her and follows her to the mansion where Yasu kills him.
Also, the timeline of when Eva stole the sedatives is pretty interesting.... that was before Eva even died. So the idea of killing others was already crossing her head by then. Still don't think she would have gone through with it had the first accidental death not happened.
Tumblr media
It's kind of interesting to speculate why Yasu wrote those numbers - could be she somehow figured out that the epitaph was solved but in that case, I think they would turn off the bomb. You could also read it as Tohya seeing her more as a sympathetic person with regrets and hesitancy about what she is doing compared to Yasu, too. Could just be a hint to Battler as well since he would realize it is his birthday number.
Tumblr media
Jessica is usually portrayed as pretty naive and clueless but she's right on the mark here... the way Eva copes about having shot Jessica is pretty similar to EP7 tea party.... I think this chapter provides the closest line of events toward what actually happened compared to all the other ones. Lots of hints around.
Tumblr media
"Too" huh, haha, shows that someone was going to survive this chapter a little before it happens.
Tumblr media
Of course, Jessica should have been very suspicious of her hearing someone die and then immediately having Kanon like hello! but she's not exactly in a very good mental state rn she will take what she can get.
Tumblr media
This moment is really tender, though... I can't help but be a bit more sympathetic to Kanon Jessica even though I don't think that was ever a serious choice in Yasu's mind.... maybe a vague yearning yes but as soon as he had the opportunity Kanon cut it off.
Tumblr media
While this strategy is obviously part of Beato's strategy.... I think there is something more to be said about it. At this moment Yasu as Kanon is literally giving Jessica some last happy moments. I can interpret this scene as a sort of fight between evil heartless perspective Yasu had of herself and Battler/Tohya's more sympathetic view of her.... the song playing during this part being "Thank you for being born" also feels like something they would want to say to Yasu.
Tumblr media
In the same way the end of EP2 was Yasu writing wish fulfillment for Rosa and Maria it is hard for me to not read this scene Tohya wrote of Kanon and Beatrice being able to reconcile as wish fulfillment for Yasu.
Tumblr media
There's something to be said about how Battler is only able to take Beato as a person seriously once they find someone else to demonize - I can see why he kind of overcorrected during ep8.
Tumblr media
The way he goes towards Eva is by thoroughly ignoring the heart, not even bothering to explain why she would kill Hideyoshi. And also he's mostly wrong here.
Tumblr media
Virgilia mentioned that Beatrice doesn't use this kind of attack and yeah, I don't think she ever has tried something like this, I think it's a good way to force Battler to think of the heart but I guess Beatrice wanted Battler to do that on his own.
Tumblr media
This answer required a lot of 'love' from Battler's part. It required him to understand Eva and Hideyoshi's relation, Rudolf's brand of cigs, Kyyrie's behavior, etc.... must be a little bittersweet to see Battler finally behave how you wanted him to when the culprit is no longer Yasu, huh.
Tumblr media
Kind of interesting how much of an answer EVA gives away here! Confirming Eva is a culprit and that there was a culprit besides her, Beatrice kind of begins freaking out probably because she is starting to drop a riddle towards Yasu and not Eva.
Tumblr media
Oh woah, Battler figured out the answer to the riddle immediately he just named the wrong person! Of course, they aren't personalities as much as her characters - but still! That was huge!
Tumblr media
This is a very sad exchange haha.... I have no doubt she was being genuine in her disappointment here.
Tumblr media
There are many valuable hints for the heat of the story in this exchange.... from EVA yelling about how she doesn't want to go back to being a human to Beatrice saying she doesn't want Battler to see her real form, to the point of narration calling it her "shabby" form I kind of see this episode as the transition point between early Umineko and Later Umineko even if EP4 is the obvious point.
Tumblr media
From what I hear some fans felt betrayed by Battler turning to the witch side in EP5, which is kind of insane considering he basically already "betrayed" the human side here.
Tumblr media
We don't really know the full exchange that led to this - I could see this being Battler's interpretation of events or Battler simply figuring out Rosa's death and Eva shooting him in response. As for how Eva survived, I imagined after everyone was dead she just kind of ran to the gold bc that's all she had left and saw the way to Kuwadarian.
Tumblr media
You are definitely meant to feel the Golden Land scene is bizarre with the problems that plagued these families (ie Natsuhi being controlling of Jessica, Eva and Shannon, etc) still existing but being brushed aside, and everyone kind of merging and losing individuality and I can understand why people maybe felt a little bit off about it on Episode 8.... but I think there is a lot of added context about why someone would accept a world like this by then, especially in the specific context of Ange. I have a long time to formulate all my thoughts until then!

Guys! GUYS!
Do you guys think...Saeyoung can be pretty heartless if anything happened to Saeran? We already witnessed how cold-hearted he was in 707 route when he found out about Saeran's state. But can he go further than that? He even tried to strangle the hell out of V in secret ending and even threaten to kill both of V and Rika for the betrayal. But can he actually pull that? What do you guys think? I want to hear your opinions. 🧐

Omg, this was me when I was playing it!! @raincosm
I cannot handle that last phone call with Saeran, like, I will never replay V's route because I just can't betray and abandon Saeran like that.
And you're totally right, V is incredibly strangle-able in his and Saeran's routes. There were many, many times where I fantasised about unscrewing the pipe from under a sink and beating V unconscious with it :)
Haha, thanks so much for the fun ask, and I hope you're having a nice weekend as well <3333

What if Rika had ended up with Jumin instead of V?
Numb - Part One
~~~
She wanted him dead.
Rika’s hands pressed down and squeezed against his neck. Her breathing grew more and more erratic as their night of love-making turned into her rage finally boiling to the surface. She was tired of it.
Tired of squeezing into a world that had no room for her.
Tired of endless parties, dull conversations, mindless chatter.
Tired of being monitored like she was a criminal.
Tired of pretending that this life - this way - was what she wanted.
“R… Rika…”
She could see it. The life was starting to drain from his eyes as he moved his hands over her wrists and tried to pry her away. Thankfully, she was stronger than she looked. She felt him kick, she heard his gasps.
Almost there. Just a few more seconds.
“Rika…”
More. More.
A sharp pain made her jolt. The heels on her feet let out a sharp screeching sound, one she had never heard before.
What was that? What was going on?
He sat up, coughing and gasping for air as she moved her hands to her ears.
No. No! Just a little more! Then it would all be over!
Rika screamed as the noise grew. She fell to her side, curled helplessly as he moved over her. He wouldn’t harm her, would he? No, he promised he wouldn’t… he wouldn’t!
She listened to him pant, the air returning to his lungs… before his footsteps receded from her.
The screeching ceased.
~~~
She was always curious about what her life would be like if she had chosen Jumin. She knew how lonely he was, how vulnerable he could be, and… well, she wanted to relieve him of his sufferings in any way she could.
She also knew that he had feelings for her, though his way of showing them were… rather odd. He’d burst out laughing after every sentence she spoke, or he’d stare intently at her like she was a science experiment.
To be fair, she saw him as an experiment, too. An interesting one, at that. One she could poke and prod and step back, taking note of his every reaction.
But she had played with his psyche a little too much. She had triggered a side of him that she knew existed: a possessive, controlling young man who rarely took ‘no’ for an answer.
At least when it came to her.
She caught a glimpse of how truly lonely Han Jumin was. How desperate he was for love, affection of any kind, warmth.
Unfortunately for him, she needed the very things he was deprived of. She was all too aware of how loneliness snatched at the soul and how darkness felt stronger than the light.
“Rika.”
She froze. It was him. His voice sounded hoarse. Her attempt to strangle him didn’t seem to make much of a difference in their relationship - Jumin had, no doubt, come up with an elegant excuse as to why he sounded the way he did, while she was left to think about the consequences of her actions.
Except, she knew what she was trying to do. She didn’t regret it.
Jumin cleared his throat and adjusted the tie around his neck. “I trust you’ve been doing well while I was gone?”
She didn’t look up. She kept her arms folded over her chest, a form of silent protest towards a man who always wanted answers.
“I understand that you’re angry at me. I didn’t please you the way you needed last night. But for you to put your hands around my neck, well. It isn’t acceptable. It is a boundary I will have to enforce towards you.”
Wow, he was dense. Rika glanced up at him, her eyes lifeless.
“I’ve forgiven you, Rika. I know that people make mistakes. But we need to do what we can to ensure those mistakes aren’t repeated. Wouldn’t you agree?”
She wanted to slice her ears off, gouge her eyes out, anything, anything to prevent from listening to him or looking at him ever again. She pressed her lips together and clenched the ends of her white dress, her fingernails digging against her palms.
“Rika. As frustrated as you feel, I need you to answer me.” Jumin took a bold step towards her, unconsciously overstepping a boundary Rika had set for him long ago.
“I understand,” she answered gently, her tone contradicting her feelings. “When are you leaving for Hong Kong?”
“In an hour.” Jumin walked towards her and brushed his fingertips over her cheek. “I won’t be gone long. You know you have everything here at your disposal, and I’ll be calling you every night to make sure you’re doing all right.”
She wanted to bite his fingers off. Every touch he graced her with made her want to puke. “I know the deal, Jumin.”
It was unbelievable. She tried to kill him last night, but he remained so unbearably forgiving. She was curious about what else she could get away with.
No - no, she needed to focus on getting out.
“All right. It’s time for you to meet with your trainer. I’ve already arranged the loft downstairs for you to take for tonight. Us sleeping together isn’t a very good idea.”
Rika scoffed. Maybe he or a maid found the knife under her pillow to use tonight. “Fine by me.”
Without another glance, without another word, Rika strode out of the penthouse doors. The heels on her feet beeped, letting Jumin know that she was leaving the confines of her prison, only to return within an hour’s time.
Soon enough, she’d leaving those doors and never coming back. Even if it meant there would be blood on her hands.

Celeste’s gift from Giovanni is a plush blanket with a printed pattern of a Tandemouse all over it, with a matching squishable pillow. There’s a red envelope with her gift, inside is a card depicting DeliClaus. When she opens the cover, there is a bundle of 70,000 pokedollars, and a note: “Celeste, I wanted to thank you for your patience, and offer this for Delibird Day. Enjoy your exchange program, -G., Rika’s uncle.”
A package was waiting for her? That's what Celeste was told when she got back to the cabin common room, so she had taken it and brought it back with her into the room she and her sister shared. Well it's one day from Delibird Day, so it wasn't much of a problem.
She opened it to find the blanket and pillows as the envelope fell out from the blanket's folds. This amount of money was unexpected; usually that was the amount she'd make from doing a round of the Ace Academy Tournament.
Yet...she couldn't help but stare at the Pokemon that was the center of the designs of the pillows and blanket. Tandemaus: The Couple Pokemon. There's always two of them until they evolve into Maushold.
Maushold. One of the two Pokemon in Paldea which had a 1% chance of having a different form. Celeste...had slowly begun to hate that Pokemon; but not because of the Pokemon themself.
It was for their concept.
People would purposely try to find a Family of Three Maushold; especially as their shiny. Which wouldn't seem like anything out of the ordinary to most; yet that was what her father had tried doing. An attempt to make the family of four into a family of three in public eyes.
Celeste knew that Giovanni was only trying his best to get in her good graces. But how can she know that she can trust him? He looks too much like him. He looks too much like him...
He looks too much like her own father!
Without a second thought, Celeste had gone and started to choke out the pillow. Her hands tightened her grip as Celeste watched the head nearly looked like it was about to explode. And in the moment, she saw a flash of her younger self.
From the day he reopened her wounds and nearly killed her; having switched to strangling her throat after enough lashing. The way this pillow almost looked like it was going to cry. Celeste began hyperventilating with the realization.
Slowly, her grip had loosened before curling up onto her bed and crying. What was meant to be a nice gift as to welcome her into his life, was ruined by her own mind.

skyglow (okkotsu yuuta)
a/n: part of @milktyama's aftermath of shibuya collab! this was so fun for me, and i had been thinking about this one yuuta manga panel dialogue for so long and never saw anything about it, so i decided to expand on it ahhhh
warnings: jjk manga spoilers! angst, one mention of scrapes/scars, loneliness, one mention of alcohol
wordcount: 1k+
masterlist
Tumblr media
He needs to see the cityline one more time. Okkotsu struggles to focus on that selfish desire as he hoists himself up the roof-hatch to crawl toward the spot that holds whispers of so many nights clutched close to his heart. Hollow clay echoes underneath him; old shingle-grooves imprint into his palms.
He winces. A younger him fell atop this very roof and scraped his hands to try and save the last bits of chi chi dango Inumaki carelessly threw into the air. He remembers laughing. Sometime later, he remembers feeling the sweetness stuck between his teeth.
Now, Okkotsu glances at his worn hands and tries to pinpoint some old scar that holds proof he was there. The memory drifts down his spine and aches everywhere it touches. Okkotsu shivers and shuts his eyes. Returning to Tokyo only meant business, after all. He knew that.
Or at least, he thought he did. Memories coax at his consciousness, yet burn like phantom pain. Can he trust himself to handle this? He chooses instead, to relive the remnants of Shoko’s reverse-curse technique from a few hours ago as it ghosted across his skin: an unrelenting burn resembling alcohol downed glass after glass. It stung more than usual, but he doesn’t blame her. How could he? Everyone lost something tonight.
Now alone, Okkotsu lets the smile slip from his face. He tucks his knees into his chest and gazes at the skyglow.
The fluorescence blurs together for reasons this place never meant to hold. The city blurs together, and not at all like the nights where he leans into Inumaki and laughs so hard that everything fades into happy translucence; or the type of night where Maki rolls her eyes and playfully roasts him with every ounce of her wit, and the lights won’t come into focus because of the wild amusement dancing across his eyes. And not like the type of night where he watches fondly as you shush everyone and promise that tomorrow, you will all walk through the city to share one-gourmet sashimi boat. And when he closes his eyes, the blur of lights behind his eyelids resemble the fluttering thrum in his heart that feels like everything you.
No. Think of something else!
Okkotsu bites down hard on his cheek. He inhales sharply. And, oh. He misses that smell of tatami. Temptation allows him to indulge for one moment. He breathes in again and notices an underlying hint of igusa–grassy, wood-chipped, and sweet–lingering in his mind to slyly unlock the gates of memory he tries so hard to keep at bay. He smells igusa, and it floods through him. Inumaki bumping his fist on his second mission because they exorcised the curse–he helped!–and now the burning of his knees quells, and he only registers the satisfying relief of finding his dearest friend.
Another breath. It pulls him in further, and the mirage of home melts on his tongue to show Maki knocking him over with a pole-arm whack to the head, only to later sling an arm around him and ruffle his hair.
Stop it. Please stop.
The memories pause, and Okkotsu feels them forebodingly building beneath the surface. When they crash atop him, they show the moments he least wants to see.
Giddy happiness at hearing you tease him with ridiculous antics (how do you come up with these?); hugging Rika one last time; and what started this all: Gojo radiating all the promises of possibility as he hands him his student ID. And now he reads the words he so desperately needs to hear: Okkotsu Yuuta, special-grade. Special.
A strangled sob escapes his throat. Why did he come back? Now, with everything out in the open, he can’t fathom tucking this all away like a folded love-letter to cling to every time he feels that uncomfortable swell in his throat, and all he wants to hear are the voices he misses so desperately.
Below him, the streets he swore he knew like the back of his palm fade away like old-ink kept too close to the flame. His recollection begins to resemble a startling similarity to the faint trace of sakura in the city-outskirts. Here, but not.
He realizes something now, something that he didn’t dare think overseas. It settles in every crevice of his body and sinks straight into his bones that run brittle and cold. Like … he could snap them any second, if he wanted. He wonders, darkly, if they would glow, then? He thinks of the glow-sticks you gently wrapped around his wrists (on nights just like this) because he could never reach far enough to secure them with one hand. Those make-shift bracelets burned so brightly and faded just as quick.
How do you forget your own home? And now ... does he even have a home?
It seems he took a piece of everyone when he left. An Inumaki with two arms. A Maki without such emptiness behind her eyes. You with laughter that warmed the very air. A gaping hole of missing pieces start unraveling the very memories that kept him going for so long. Lies, now?
He wants to ask so many things: what led up to this, it hurts to see you like this, I miss us. And then selfish whispers that build on his tongue and taste so sweet: can’t we go back? Can’t you take me with you, this time?
Okkotsu remembers yearning to come home for one week–just one week–every evening when training overseas finished. A desperate plea to not feel so alone can consume one just as easily as moth to flame. Don’t forget me; don’t forget me; don’t forget me. And each night, after collapsing to the ground in a sweaty, exhausted mess, he always decided to settle with just one day together. Even that would mean enough.
The granted wish stamps bitterly across his mind. Idealistic fool. One day isn’t enough.
He quenches ugly feelings of disappointment so they ache (cold and wet), inside his chest. Empty footsteps echo once, twice. Drip drop. He walks this path alone.
A few hours ago, when he rushed to hug you all for the first time in a year, he lost himself in the warmth of all your arms. He didn't think about how your uniforms felt different than before. More starchy, more stiff. He didn't think about how Inumaki's arm didn't wrap around his shoulder. He didn't think about how much rubble clung to everyone's features.
Dimly, Okkotsu realizes this hug marks the happiest he's felt in a while ... and the saddest. He tries not to think about how easy this will all be to forget.
“I missed everyone,” he whispers, as he sits above the city. “I don’t want to leave.” He picks at the strap of his katana to adjust it, and for the first time, he lets it clatter from his shoulder to the roof. The metal glints against his ring, and he slides it around his finger. “It’s not fair.”
But in the end, he shatters the illusion himself. He silences his pleas to stay when he volunteers to enter a far-away colony to buy everyone more time. He chooses that moment to lock all his emotion behind familiar doors that feel so much heavier to slam than before. At the moment, he feels happy to make the right decision.
Only much later, when he pries those heavy doors open, and the warmth fades from his eyes to expose sad, tired sanpaku (that made the children at school whisper apologies because he was cursed, they said), does he realize.
He slumps his shoulders and clutches his knees tighter to his chest. It isn't fair. But then again, it never has been. He threw that all away once he confined Rika to a life of curses. And he hates it.
He hates how fairness means a privilege meant only for the naive. He hates how he lets himself slip when Choso and Tsukumo step forward as Tengen’s guards, and he hates how he relievingly breathes out, “I don’t want to leave my friends.”
And for a moment, he hates how he thought everything would feel alright. He hates himself for falling back into this selfish, victimizing spiral that he hides so easily; he hates how no one notices how sharp his heart bleeds against his ribs as he realizes, oh. I will be alone again.

[Tales from the Pack] Hansol: Fire and Ice (Part Four)
Tumblr media
Characters: Hansol x female reader
Genre/warnings: werewolf au, fantasy, angst, a little bit of fluff, lots of mentions of death
Word count: 2,962
Summary: You’ve always been one to let your emotions get the best of you – your power reflects that – and you’ve never been good at expressing them. That’s why you always thought you’d be awful with a mate, but you never thought things would be this awful.
a/n: things in bold are in english. also as y’all already know, kyung is half black so i included that bit in this part since the series is from her pov. i try to mostly avoid being that specific in reader inserts but oh well lmao

After waking up but before the funeral, the first thing that was brought to your attention were the injuries. Jooyeon’s neck was bruised and sore – Seungcheol couldn’t help but growl whenever he really stared at it, which was often because he couldn’t stop thinking about how someone tried to strangle his mate – most of the mates and wolves had cuts and scrapes, those in town had silver bullet wounds that had to heal, and there was Hansol with silver burned into his shoulders and arms. However, Hansol never once complained about the pain when he was with you. He’d grunt and whimper softly when he moved or did things or his clothes brushed against it, but he mostly kept his discomfort to himself.
The first thing you tried was Joshua’s healing, which he was already overexerting -- and soon, he was unable to use it at all. He was trying to quickly heal everybody’s silver injuries, but Hansol’s was the biggest one, and it was deeper than the others. There were faint grey veins in his back when he took off his shirt, and you could only imagine what it must’ve felt like. But you chose to try to ignore the strong instinct to stay beside your mate. Instead, you tried to help your pack and their mates with coping.
“Where’s Rin?” you asked Jinyoung as you entered the kitchen.
“She’s been hiding ever since the night we came home,” he replied, sipping from a mug of coffee. “I saw her run outside that night, but then she went invisible. I haven’t seen her since.”
You frowned. Other than Jiung, you were closest with Rin and Chanseong. With Chanseong gone and Rin hiding – you could sniff her out, but you didn’t want to blow her cover and upset her – you felt even more alone. Your inner wolf yearned to go back to Hansol and at least watch as Joshua tried to heal him, but you ignored that feeling yet again.
“I guess I’ll…find something else to do,” you shrugged.
Jinyoung sighed, setting his mug on the counter and putting a hand on your shoulder as you turned to go, “_____, you can’t keep doing this.”
“Doing what?”
“You’re just trying to distract yourself from Hansol.”
“No,” you snapped, scowling at the younger wolf, “I’m trying to be a good alpha.”
Jinyoung’s face fell, his grip loosening, “_____, I know you must feel it, too…”
“No, it’ll go away,” you stated surely. “I’m the alpha, so I’m staying here and acting like it. I’m not letting my pack down.”
“You’re not letting anybody down, _____. You’re being too hard on yourself. And you can’t say that you’d be letting down Jiung because we both know – we all know – that he would want you to go easier on yourself, too.”
“Shut up!” you snapped, pulling away from Jinyoung and staring at the floor. You took deep breaths as you felt your temper flaring up, the skin of your knuckles starting to spark. The last thing you wanted was to set the kitchen on fire. “Just…let me do what I need to, okay? This is how I want to do things.”
You heard Rin’s voice, but you didn’t see her, “It’s how she wants to cope.”
She appeared beside Jinyoung at the counter, though she shrunk behind him like she was hiding from somebody.
Jinyoung glanced over at her before looking back at you, “What did she say?”
Rika walked into the kitchen, an empty syringe in one hand, and her hands clad in gloves, “She says it’s how _____ chooses to cope. Personally, I agree. _____ is our alpha now and she should decide what she wants to do. We can’t baby her like Jiung did.”
“You can’t seriously believe that–”
“Jinyoung,” Rika barked, tossing the syringe in the garbage. “not now.”
“How’s Hansol?” Rin wondered quietly.
Rika sighed, wiping sweat from her forehead with the back of her arm, “Nothing’s working. I recommended a doctor in the town near their new house, and he said he’ll think about it.”
“Oh, Minjee?” you asked, ignoring the fact that the two girls were speaking English to each other. “She did well with Baekhan that one time.”
“And she’s affordable for the wolves who had a harder time blending in,” Rika chuckled. “I think she’ll be able to be of the best assistance for them if even Joshua’s powers aren’t healing Hansol.”
While Rika had to repeat what she had said to Rin in English, you went to walk out of the kitchen in search of something else to keep your brain busy since now all you could think of was Hansol’s injuries. However, Jinyoung stopped you once again.
“This isn’t over, _____,” he told you. “Their pack leaves tomorrow, and you’ll have to decide. We’re having a pack meeting tonight to discuss this.”
“Whatever,” you grumbled before shrugging him off and leaving the kitchen.
-
Seungcheol’s pack stayed for two days. Two days of preparations for a ceremony that would serve as a funeral for the fallen alpha. Two days of Hansol whimpering in pain whenever anybody touched his shoulders or the back of his arms. Two whole days of Joshua doing his best to heal everybody until he physically couldn’t use his power anymore. Two days of Soonyoung sniffing around your house, which you thought was weird, but it at least lessened the tension seeing his weird behavior.
The funeral was exactly what they expected, but they found out it was a funeral for two. You were the only one who knew that Chanseong had left, but you were too out of it to do anything about it at the time. When did manage to break the news to the pack, they seemed upset but not surprised. Nobody was surprised that Chanseong would do something like that since Jiung was dead. Outside of the pack, Chanseong had no other family.
Since there were no bodies to bury, memorials were created in the backyard. On wooden crosses that your pack had made, their names were engraved into them before they were put side-by-side in the dirt. Bang Jiung and Lee Chanseong – an alpha and his mate.
You were at least thankful that Seungcheol’s pack attended and listened attentively to what your pack had to say about your brother. You could feel eyes on you most of the time, though you assumed they were afraid that you would lose your cool like you had before. However, you just stared at the ground, dressed in all black like the rest of your pack, and said nothing.
Seungcheol’s pack also noticed that Rin was still missing -- well, she was there because the wolves could smell her, but she stayed invisible the whole time -- and everyone noticed that Hansol stood farthest away from the group. They figured Hansol wanted to still be here to pay his respects, but stood farther away since he was apparently the cause of all this in your eyes and in his own.
Once it was over, the three alphas ushered their own pack inside so that way Your pack could have some time alone to do whatever you needed to do. Suvi had turned to look at your pack right before entering the house and noticed Rin was suddenly there.
After the funeral, you still didn’t feel different -- you thought you might after waking up, too, but you didn’t. You weren’t sure if you’d even feel different after becoming the new alpha, but you thought maybe it would make you feel at least a little bit stronger or a little more sure of yourself. Instead, you just felt as broken as you did before. Nothing had changed.
You did feel something – an instinct that you already knew what it was – but you shoved that instinct down and tried to live up to the alpha you knew your brother would want you to be. Maybe if you really acted the part, you’d feel it – everyone would. At least, that’s all you could hope for.
-
Since you’d missed seeing Eunjin, you spent most of your time sitting beside her. Unlike the other mated couples, her and Seungkwan weren’t all over each other. They didn’t bother asking you about any of your problems, and you enjoyed listening to them talk about anything -- from things Eunjin was hearing, to Seungkwan just telling her old stories of the pack.
As they spoke about their different traditions from their home countries, you spoke up about one thing in particular, “That is something I never understood…”
“What?” Seungkwan asked, his hand wrapped around Eunjin’s tiny one.
“When Koreans marry, nobody takes the other’s surname,” you clarified, looking between the couple. “America’s the same way as Eunjin’s home country where if you and Eunjin got married, Eunjin would become Boo Eunjin. Then again, I guess getting married isn’t something werewolves do either, huh?”
“We are,” Yeji suddenly interjected, listening to the conversation.
“What?” Jihoon asked, being taken off guard by the suddenly remark by his mate, and making the others in the room chuckle.
You even cracked a small smile.
“We’re getting married,” she repeated, “…right?”
Quickly, Jihoon nodded, “If that’s what you want to do, then of course.”
“Good answer,” Wonwoo nodded, nudging his brother with his elbow.
“You’re such a sucker for her,” Soonyoung said teasingly, rolling his eyes.
Danbi looked to you, her soft smile growing wider when she looked at you like she was just trying to make you happy. Danbi was a cute girl.
“What about you, _____?” she asked. “Did you want to get married?”
You just shrugged, “I don’t know. I would fantasize about it a lot when I was a child but after living the life of a werewolf for so long and learning more of their customs, I don’t think I’d mind either way.”
“Where exactly are you from, _____?” Soomin inquired, leaning forward like she was genuinely interested.
“I’m from America, and I would visit once a year, but I don’t remember my birth parents,” you admitted with a shrug, your hands folding together in your lap. “My adoptive ones managed to save a picture of them, so I know what they looked like at least -- not that I care. But my mother was white and my father was black. Me and Ji– Um…I’m not as dark as my dad, but I’m darker than my mom, obviously.”
Eunjin looked at you with a hint of a smile on her pink lips as her wide blue eyes took you in, softly saying, “You’re really pretty, _____. I’ve always thought your hair was pretty, and you have a cute nose.”
“Thanks,” you could feel your cheeks heating up as you looked at your lap. You knew Eunjin was too genuine, so you knew she truly believed the comments she made about you. She was too sweet for this awful world.
“_____,” you heard Hanbin call you from the kitchen. You looked up to see him wave you over. “C’mon.”
You sighed, standing up, “I’ll talk to you guys later.”
“Okay!” Danbi chirped.
You walked out of the living room normally before dragging your feet through the kitchen. You knew why you were dreading this pack meeting but you tried to not let those reasons get to you. You were going to have to face the reality of the situation even if you didn’t want to. You could pretend as long as you wanted, but your instincts knew the truth – all of them knew the truth.
Hanbin held the back door open for you to walk out onto the wrap-around porch and down the steps to the backyard. You joined the group that had already formed around the large fire, standing around it to warm their faces and hands.
“Alright,” Jaesang spoke up once you and Hanbin had joined the group, “now that the alpha is here, we can start.”
You just stared down at your boot-clad feet.
“Have you made any decisions, _____?” Jimin wondered softly.
“I already told Jinyoung what I’m doing,” you grumbled.
Across the fire, you could hear Rika whispering translations to Rin.
“You shouldn’t–”
“Jinyoung,” Hanbin spoke up, placing a hand on your back, “let’s let _____ explain herself. What did you decide, _____?”
“I’m staying with my pack,” you stated, finally lifting your head to look at each member. “I’m going to be the alpha, and I’m going to do it well.”
“You do know that’s suicide, right?” Rin asked, her voice hard as her golden eyes glared at you. “You’re just going to kill yourself, and then you won’t be an alpha even if you–”
“Corinne,” Rika whispered harshly.
“At least I’m not playing hide-n-seek with the other pack!” you shouted, already getting worked up at Rin’s insinuation.
Rin’s cheeks flushed, and she averted her eyes to the fire.
“I vaguely got an idea of what Rin said,” Hyojun spoke up, his hands shoved into his pockets as his mate clung to one of his arms, “but I know she’s right. _____, if you deny Hansol, you’ll kill him and yourself. I’m not saying you should listen to us, but I think you should think this over a bit more. At least promise us that, yeah?”
You stared at Hyojun for a moment before instinctively looking up at Hanbin. Then your eyes flickered to the fire after realizing you were the alpha and you were to make your own decisions.
With a sigh, you nodded once, “I’ll think about it.”
“Thank you,” Hanbin nodded, sounding almost relieved and happy. “We’d rather have you out of the pack and safe, than in it and dead.”
Most of the pack brought their mates and themselves back inside, but you stayed outside by the fire. You stared deep into the flames, trying to sort through the maze of thoughts you had. You knew you’d be digging your own grave if you denied your mate since you had the same strong urges, but you hoped that pretending they didn’t exist would just make them go away. But at the same time, the wolf side of you just didn’t want to ignore those feelings.
You let out a groan, dropping your head into your hands. You had thought everyone had gone inside but you felt a strong arm tug you into their side, and you already knew who it was: Hanbin.
You weren’t sure how long you stayed outside to think in the quiet of the night, but Hanbin stood by you the entire time. All you could think as you stared into the fire that only reminded you of your own temper, was that Hanbin would make a better alpha than you ever could.
-
The pack was leaving around 7am, and your pack met them outside to say goodbye. Most of your pack shook hands with the others, some of the mates hugged the other mates. Soonyoung was still acting weird, but at this point, you figured that was just typical Soonyoung. You stayed toward the back, though, as you were supposed to make your official decision.
The entire time, you felt eyes on you. From your pack and theirs, but you mostly felt Hansol’s boring into you. You just kept your eyes on the ground, waiting for the inevitable.
“It’s been a pleasure meeting you and your pack,” Hanbin said, shaking hands with the three alphas, “and if you ever need anything else, just give us a shout.”
“Eunjin’s got that covered,” Seokmin joked.
Finally, Hanbin turned to you, waving you over. Your feet robotically moved one in front of the other, but the whole thing felt like a blur. You felt like you weren’t even in your own body.
“So, _____,” Hanbin put a warm hand on your shoulder, looking down at you.
But the one to ask the question wasn’t Hanbin.
“_____,” Hansol spoke up suddenly, his voice soft but capturing your attention easily. You looked at him as he walked over, though you could see the pain in his face he was trying to hide from his clothes moving against his injuries. He stopped in front of you, yellow eyes staring deeply into yours. “I know you hate me, and I know what I did is unforgivable. Despite everything that happened, I promise to work as hard as I have to to make you happy again. I don’t care if it takes me until I die, I swear I’ll make you happy someday. I’ll love you with my whole heart, and I’ll always take care of you. So…will you come with me and be my mate?”
Both packs were silent as you and Hansol looked at each other. Most of you – maybe all of you – was screaming to take his hand and let him lead you off to a new life. You knew even your own pack wanted you to go with him just so you’d be alive and be well taken care of because they knew Hansol would be able to keep you under control after what happened in the woods the other night. Nobody else in your pack could ever do what he could do. Nobody could ever keep you out of trouble like Hansol could. Nobody could even touch you when your powers were in use, but Hansol could easily.
But your lips parted to speak, and you barely whispered the word, “No.”
Then you turned away from the pack and made your way through your smaller one, going into the house and not sparing Hansol a second glance.
You were an alpha, just like Jiung, and you were going to be strong like him.

Happy Monday! Hope your week has started alright? I also hope a little self shipping might brighten your day! Between you and Jumin who is the big and who is the little spoon? ♥️
Happy Wednesday Lea! I decided to challenge myself and write another drabble with this💕 I hope you're having a nice week so far too ^^
I imagined this song playing in the background during the scene~
tw: mentions of alcohol / alcoholism
The cold burn of hard spirits slipped down my throat as I typed out the last lines to the story on my computer screen. The line faded in and out of my vision, both the scene and the words failing me, and after a hazy struggle I realized this was a battle lost. Reading the time on the corner of the monitor, it blinked one o'clock in the morning. After a bout of internal deliberation, I abandoned the empty whiskey glass and computer. Rika's apartment is small and it doesn't take but a moment for me to cross over to the bed.
With an exasperated sigh, I can't help but collapse on top of it, feeling my stomach rise to my throat. The momentary queasiness was gone and replaced by a crushing pain in my chest. Apparently I hadn't downed enough to chase away the nagging hurt. It seemed sadness was still lurking very close and I hadn't enough emergency liquor to try and build a droning buzz. So now I hoarded away what precious bits were left to dull the pain later.
Hot tears pricked at the cornerns of my eyes faster than I cared to admit.
Sure working with the RFA had been fun. More fun than I cared to admit. But my fib of enjoying the hermit lifestyle that accompanied being locked away in the former party coordinator's flat had really begun to hurt me. I managed to choke a laugh out, I needed physical reassurance along with the emotional ties created in my newfound friends. And lacking those small physical moments—a handshake, a pat on the shoulder, a goddamn hug—made me sink further and further in the dark parts of my mind. The parts that trapped me and created a shadow of myself.
Maybe I should finish off the booze, my chest heaved a sob and in that moment, all I wanted was to a disappear into the night. The loneliness was so heavy and so so apparent.
The phone rang and I managed to bring up the caller ID.
Han Jumin.
Ah yes, the one monkey wrench in all of this. While at times dry, his personality always managed to cheer me up. Whether it was his uptight and dismissive facade or his wry dorky jokes—something about him clicked for me.
And something about me, although what was harder to explain, must've clicked for him too. We'd spent far too much time talking since I joined the party planning crew.
Perhaps that closeness drove home the ache of not having any sort of tactile proximity.
Swallowing back whatever crying remained in my chest, I answered the call.
There was a surprised hitch in his breathing and he hesitated before speaking. "Excuse me for intruding...I did not expect you to respond."
"Then why'd you call, silly goose?" It's an automatic quip, something that slips so easily into our conversation.
Jumin huffed in amusement. "Perhaps it was a wellness test to see if you were resting properly. I confess, you failed horribly."
For some reason that struck a nerve, and I forced my face against the bed to muffle out a sob. "Yeah...well, that's nothing new."
"Jaf..." There's a pause, and it takes Jumin a moment. "Are you well?"
Maybe it's the liquor. Maybe I just couldn't take the oppressive emptiness of the flat anymore. "No. I'm not."
He sucked his breath in, as if he'd winced. "What's wrong?"
"I'm lonely," I whispered, and I felt that burning in my eyes again. This time the rivulets refused to stop. "And even if anyone cared, they wouldn't do anything to find me or to come here. That's how the world works. Although it's not like Seven would let anyone close to this place anyways."
"I'm...I regret that you feel in such a ostracized position," he strangled out.
"Aw, that sounds like an apology Jumin. But you don't have to, don't worry. It's just the way things are."
He stopped again, as if he didn't know what to say. After a beat he excused himself and hung up. I'm not sure what I expected, but I don't blame him. Dizziness shook me as I stood up and tried to make my way to fill the whiskey glass. It took a teetering few moments but suddenly my best friend, a cold glass on the rocks, had returned.
The clock now blinked two o'clock in the morning. My mind drifted and fluttered with each sip of spirits.
A knock at the door disturbed me and for a second I wondered if I had crossed the threshold into the realm of inebriation. But after a minute, another knock followed the first. Throwing caution to the wind, definitely due to the drink, I opened the door only to stare. Well...I didn't think that I had drank that much but if Jumin was standing in the doorway, then I must have.
But suddenly the dream-Jumin reached out and plucked the glass from my grasp. He stared at the bronze liquid with abject disgust before his gaze tendered and returned to me. "You're drunk."
"Not quite," I murmured, "but trying."
"Stop," it's a command barely above a whisper. It's then that I realize he was really there—stepping through the doorway, closing the door behind him, leaving the drink on a countertop.
"How?" I'm not sure if that's the question I should be asking—it's late, and by the looks of his rumpled suit and disheveled hair I can't tell if he ran all the way here or if he'd been having a late night too.
"Being V's best friend entails certain benefits," he murmured, stepping closer his eyes calculating and searching. "The location of this apartment has been no secret to me."
"Okay...then why?" I felt the way my heart brokenly thundered in my ribs, wanting him to say he cared.
Jumin’s grey eyes, this is my first time to see them in person, warmed and his hand reached again—brushing aside my hair. "I believe you mentioned you were lonely."
"I'm here," I admitted. "Alone. Again."
His hand rested on my cheek and it's a taste of irresistible physicality that I had desperately needed. I leaned into the touch.
"Not alone, my dear." He pressed his forehead against mine, and up close I saw the dark circles under his eyes.
It seemed he was good at lying over the messenger. No robot could suffer almost as badly as Jaehee from sleep deprivation. A kindred spirit it seemed, these sleepless nights that kept us silently suffering within ourselves.
"Do you want to sleep here tonight?" I questioned softly. "Normal sleep."
He huffed and his breath ghosted over my cheek. "It is late."
"Mmm." I led him to the bed, and he kicked off his shoes and shucked off his jacket.
Once he loosened his tie and joined me on the bed, there was an awkward break of the moment—as if neither of us knew what to do next.
"Do you want me to hold you?" He asked, his voice hardly audible.
After a thought, I twisted my hands in one another. "Actually, can I just...hold you?"
Jumin raised his brow in confusion before he laid down, facing away from me in silent acquiescence. With a relieve sigh, I rest behind him, wrapping my arms around his torso. His ribs constricted as if he held his breath, and I felt every shudder of his muscles through his back. There's a comic absurdity in how much shorter I am than him, he had to pull his legs up a bit for me to curl up against him, but from the small reverberating chuckles—it doesn't seem he minded.
"Don't disappear," I nuzzled against the dip between his shoulder blades.
His sides heaved and his hand brushed along my forearms in slow, soothing strokes. "Go to sleep Jaf...I'll still be here in the morning."
I nodded before getting one last thing off my chest. "You're the little spoon."
"So it appears," he rumbled.
The smile in Jumin's voice was apparent and it was enough to convince me to close my eyes.

My Review of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni SOTSU
Tumblr media
Prior thoughts here…
Tumblr media
Look, I love Higurashi. I really do! But I can’t be the only person to hate Satoko Hojo when it was discovered what she did in Gou. That really tainted Higurashi Gou, which was doing okay up until that point. Now, does Satoko redeem herself and realize that she was petty, vindictive, misunderstood everything, and is absolutely in the wrong? Judging by what some of the seiyuus said after recording and reading the script, they felt weird and off by the material.
That’s very troubling!
Tumblr media
Moving on! Our main story tonight is about Hinamizawa. A rural Japanese town with a rich history in religion, colorful characters which you can tell from the hair, and annoying, screeching cicadas! We see you, you dirt-bath twats!
Sorry, I really wanted to do a John Oliver moment here.
Tumblr media
PREVIOUSLY ON HIGURASHI GOU: Rika’s suffering has gotten exponentially worse than in previous seasons. We’ve seen Rika die continuously and worse than what was shown to us in the original series. Not only that, but she was murdered by people who never caused Rika any harm prior including Akasaka, Akane Sonozaki, Chief Kimiyoshi, Ooishi, and even Keiichi. Who is to blame for this? That would be Rika’s best friend Satoko Hojo. Satoko was willing to make Rika happy by going along with Rika’s endeavors of leaving Hinamizawa and attending a prestigious all-girls school. And while Rika adjusted to her surroundings perfectly, Satoko was slipping through the cracks. Rika offered a helping hand to her, but Satoko was so stubborn and jumped to every wrong conclusion, thinking Rika abandoned her.
Tumblr media
It wasn’t until the girls took a trip back to Hinamizawa that Satoko’s world changed. In the altar of Oyashiro, she is transferred to the limbo and comes face-to-face with a deity much like Hanyuu. We’re pretty sure her name is Featherine…but for some reason Satoko called her Eua so I guess that’s her name in the Higurashi universe. Eua gives Satoko the special power to control her fate and she literally abuses it at every turn to force Rika to stay in Higurashi and change every outcome from every timeline Rika’s been through.
Tumblr media
SOTSU: I think we were all thinking throughout the Gou series, we haven’t watched enough episodes of Rena losing her shit and go on a murderous rampage. Or for that matter, we haven’t even watched Mion strap someone down and take off their fingernails! So remember episodes 1-4 of Gou? Apparently the first 3 episodes of Sotsu show how Rena lost her mind in that timeline, the next three episodes followed Mion’s descent into madness, and we follow that up with Teppei living with Satoko. Gou only told part of the story. Satoko drugged all of these people in order to screw with Rika. I mean no one needed to see Rika get strangled and thrown in the outdoor toilet. Yet we got that scene. Thanks series, thanks a fuck-ton for that.
Tumblr media
And yes, we indeed got the fingernail scene.
But don’t get it twisted with what I just said. Only some of these scenes are new compared to what was given and shown in Gou. To be mean about it, Sotsu is on par with Endless Eight from Haruhi Suzumiya. But give Endless Eight some credit. It was only eight episodes. We’ve got 13 episodes of almost the same exact crap we watched six months prior in the previous season.
MORE REDEMPTION: Last arc, we kinda got redemptions of several characters near the end from Miyo Takano and Teppei Hojo. I obviously didn’t believe the latter. Teppei was scum in the original series. Not a redeeming thing about him and everyone knows it. This character however was runner-up as scum of Hinamizawa.
Tumblr media
Rina Mamiya or Ritsuko dated Rena’s father and it set Rena off. In the original series, Rena’s father would spend butt-loads of money on Ritsuko. And the original plan was a bit of a badger game. The man would spend amounts of cash on Ritsuko until eventually her real man comes in and yells at the other man for messing with his girl until he pays the real man off to leave him alone. And that system was put out by Ritsuko and Teppei.
Sotsu worked a little differently. Due to Teppei’s…redemp…redemp…Nope, can’t do it! Teppei’s out of the picture and now Ritsuko is working in a gentleman’s club. Rena’s father goes there constantly and showers Ritsuko with gifts. Ritsuko gets concerned. That never happens. We see a shred of humanity with her. She mentions that she was raised by a single parent and came to Rena to convince her father to stop doing this. And if Satoko didn’t drug Rena, it would have been awesome to see this happen. I want Rena to be happy.
Tumblr media
I WAS AFRAID OF THIS: As this season progressed, I noticed these previous arcs that we’re watching are coming from Satoko’s point of view. Unfortunately, it’s just making myself and many others lose every respect we once had for Satoko. She goes through different timelines drugging people and fucking with Rika. So once we got to the third arc, I was afraid of seeing something with my own eyes. Satoko faking abuse! She is not being abused by her uncle. She is not being abused by the townspeople nor her classmates. She is faking abuse to both piss off her uncle and worry her friends. That is some sick-ass shit!
Tumblr media
ENDING: Up to this point, we watched Satoko’s hand in ruining Rika’s perfect timeline. During Higurashi Gou, we weren’t sure who the true culprit was. Higurashi Sotsu came in and had Satoko drug Rena, Mion, Detective Ooishi, Akasaka, Akane Sonozaki, Chief Kimiyoshi, and even Keiichi. Not just that, but lie and manipulate people, particularly in the second-to-last arc of Sotsu.
Many of us (myself included) were a little disappointed in the carryout of the story. Sotsu was essentially Gou, but from Satoko’s angle. In every other Higurashi story prior to this train-wreck, the timelines felt like they were their own story and not recycled garbage. It wasn’t until the episodes with Hanyuu leaving Rika that we got a few questions answered. The sword Hanyuu left Rika was in Oyashiro’s statue. It’s just that Satoko got to it first and a baby piece broke off, leaving Rika unsatisfied. Also, Rika’s flashbacks are giving her some clues. Or could it be Hanyuu leaving Rika the clues?
Tumblr media
Hanyuu went to investigate these messed up timelines and sure enough, she encountered Eua. But Eua is clearly more powerful and has an upper-hand in her own realm so she does overpower Hanyuu. Hanyuu learns the truth that Satoko was behind everything and that Eua has been manipulating her along the way. She also watches Rika fall into despair and give up her future goal of one day leaving Hinamizawa. Instead, Rika is going to stay in Hinamizawa and Satoko gets what she wants. Never count out luck when Hanyuu is involved! Rika has been getting flashbacks of the timeline when Ooishi went on the rampage. And sure enough, one of those flashes were of Satoko shooting Rika in the face to make sure she was dead.
Rika knows Satoko is the reason behind the influx of deaths in these timelines. What now?
Tumblr media
Satoko kills Rika. REPEATEDLY! And it just goes from timeline to timeline, from Hinamizawa to St. Lucia, from the Cotton Drifting Festival to the classroom! Now, I will admit some of these fights were funny to watch. In one of those times, Satoko kills Rika and in the distance, Rena, Mion, and Keiichi are not noticing a damn thing. That was funny! And then you have Rika and Satoko killing each other over the fact that Satoko doesn’t want to study.
Tumblr media
This episode-long slug-fest was like Peter Griffin vs. Ernie the Giant Chicken. It went on far too long. And it was worse because you know Satoko is in the wrong.
Yes, I am on Team Rika in this fight. Rika offered a hand to Satoko. Satoko refused help. Rika didn’t snitch on Satoko. Rika wants to go as far as humanly possible away from the town that caused her so much pain. If you spent hundreds of years in the same year, the same month, in the same town, suffering a myriad of ways to die, wouldn’t you want to take the next bus the fuck outta there? Satoko took a petty fight into a full-blown, time-leaping, friend-killing, witches and Gods holy war! Oh yeah, let’s look at Eua and Hanyuu. Eua seems to have the upper-hand here, but Hanyuu and Rika always have miracles on their side. It might be a 1 out of 1000 shot for them, but they have miracles coming out of their asses. Thankfully, Hanyuu was able to defeat Eua and the girls stopped their fight. After some wise words from Rena, the girls came to a sensible conclusion of giving each other some space to keep being friends.
Tumblr media
Rika’s going to St. Lucia and Satoko isn’t. They will remain frenemies, I guess? Satoko will stalk Rika if she’s away too long or doesn’t phone home as often. Geez bitch, clingy much? And we end the series with the classic Higurashi song “You” as we see all the other minor characters we loved from the series. Ooishi is visiting his friend’s grave, Takano (not pregnant) and Tomitake coming back to town, Ritsuko’s alive, Teppei’s alive (and not a horrible human being anymore), everyone’s alive, and Satoko doesn’t learn her lesson. The bitch gets what she wants. This series is shit.
Tumblr media
And what’s this? Of all the arcs for Satoshi to wake up and have Hinamizawa Syndrome clear up, it had to be this one! I can’t even begin to describe my disgust here. But I couldn’t because the scene was so fast, I had to contain myself.
OH MY FUCKING GOD! I FUCKING HATED THIS ARC! I HATED THIS ANIME! I HATED, HATED, HATED THIS ANIME! HATED IT! HATED EVERY SIMPERING STUPID VACANT AUDIENCE-INSULTING MOMENT OF IT!
Sorry to get all Roger Ebert on you guys but it had to be said.
Higurashi once had an art to telling the story with repeating and similar timelines. It made it feel like you’re not sitting through 13 episodes of something you already sat through with only a few minutes of new footage. Sotsu went the route of Haruhi Suzumiya’s Endless Eight. You fail, dude! That’s a fail! Each episode up until episode 13 or 14 is primarily the same shit we saw in Gou. With the exception of a few scenes like with Ritsuko, Kimiyoshi’s horrible torture, and evil Satoko moments, it was a shot-for-shot repeat from last season. And it was especially slow and repetitive during the Satoko abuse arc.
Tumblr media
I know I went off in the last review about how much Satoko sucks, but she really fucking sucks here. Satoko wasn’t like this at all in the original series. She loved all of her friends, not just Rika. She loved her nii-nii! She cared for Keiichi and sees him as a pro-temp nii-nii. And she cared for Shion, Mion, and Rena. This season with Satoko all I see is manipulation of every character that cared for her, even the minor ones and only care about Rika. Satoshi wasn’t even a passing thought. In fact, not once did Satoko feel the need to talk about her nii-nii except when it was to manipulate Keiichi. She fakes everything! She faked her nii-nii talk with Keiichi, doesn’t give a crap about Shion’s love for her, faked being bullied and lying about it to a numerous amount of people, all to fuck with Rika!
Now then, this really upset a lot of fans. I mean, a fuck-ton a lot of fans. I’m just disappointed that this exists and will spend the next several anime seasons trying to forget about everything I watched here. Eventually, I’ll move the fuck on and pretend this didn’t exist and continue to rewatch the Studio Deen version and reading the manga. But some others aren’t so lucky. This really struck a nerve to those who have been with the franchise since day one. I have a friend that’s so depressed by Gou and Sotsu’s existence, I’ve never seen her this wrecked before!
I cannot give this a good review. I cannot recommend this. It is just unwatchable. Unfathomable! Inconceivable! Unbelievable! In fact, here’s a list of Higurashi stuff I would highly recommend watching or reading before you should ever touch Higurashi Gou and Sotsu.
Higurashi Visual Novel Higurashi Manga Any Higurashi video game Higurashi Season 1 & 2 (Studio Deen version) Higurashi Rei episodes 2-4 Higurashi Outbreak Higurashi Cat-Killing Special Higurashi Rei episodes 1 & 5 The live action TV series from 2016 Umineko no Naku Koro Ni (anime) A 10 hour loop of Keiichi’s sea bear dangling Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kira That one episode of Last Period featuring the cast of Higurashi Live Action Higurashi from 2008 Staring at a still-shot of Detective Ooishi wearing a thong from Higurashi Rei episode 1 for five minutes Scratching your neck until you see maggots come out
THEN…no, I don’t think you’re ready to watch Higurashi Gou and Sotsu.
Avoid it like the plague.
What a waste of Studio Passione’s semi-decent animation!
