A Locked Tomb Playlist

Each lyctor/cav pair gets three songs - loosely, the first song in the set is the necromancer, the second is the cavalier, and the third is their relationship, but like. Only for some of the pairs. You get to guess which ones.

I made this sometime in spring/summer of last year, and there’s a few songs I’d switch around (mostly giving the Cyrus+Valency songs to Ulysses+Titania) but I listened to this again after reading Nona and I’m ready to eat drywall bc now this technically should have a Nona spoilers tag?? sort of? at least, I’d feel bad putting it up without tagging it?

An: Absolutely I can do this! Hope you enjoy! I'm so sorry this took so long! Life's been hectic and I've been dealing with migraines my dude. But I do hope you enjoy this despite how long it took me.

You lost something in yourself when you watched him drive away. Some portion of your heart. The place where you held your love for him.

Broken. Chipped off.

It was still there.

God why was it still there?

The two of you had mutually agreed that it would be better if you didn't see each other anymore. Agreed that it was safer for you.

For him.

That you wouldn't just be some pawn used against him at some point.

It happened once before.

Your ribs were still bruised from were Starscream held you.

Color darkened your skin. Ached with every breath. You had considered yourself lucky. He could have broken bones. Punctured your lungs.

At times you wondered if that would be preferable.

You couldn't remember who you were before Prowl.

Just what did you do with your life before he came into it?

Your mornings left you aimless and wandering. Every morning you had hiked the hill behind your house to watch the sunrise with Prowl. A hot cup of coffee in hand and you sat next to him. Listening to Prowl tell you about the shenanigans the twins had gotten into that night.

He helped you plan your day. Reminding you of important appointments.

To take care of yourself.

Prowl found himself in a familiar situation. He was missing an important part of himself. His once normally proficient battle computer able to rattle off a million and one outcomes in astro seconds.

Was useless.

At least here and now.

He did good in battle. In war. In the heat of the moment. Where there was black and white.

Here and now.

But in the grey?

Wading within his own emotions. Trying to make head or tails of what felt both right and wrong.

Primus he didn't know a fragging thing.

Prowl first thought about it like he would a battle plan. Like the kind of thing he would use to bring someone back from enemy lines. To advise Optimus on where to steer his loyal troops.

You can't do than with emotions. You can't make them follow the same straight and narrow line like your mind. No right or wrong.

Only what his spark was yearning for.

And it was you. Primus it was always you.

Patient you. Caring you. Sweet you. The only human or cybertronian that took his feeling with consideration. That even when he thought about what someone needed most as a gift rather than what they wanted is when he cares the most.

That his way of saying. "I love you." Was action. Was gifting necessities.

And Prowl loved you deeply. With everything his aching spark would allow. He'd give himself to you. If he could. Let you use him in any way you see fit. To be your sword and shield.

And it destroyed him when he couldn't. When he saw you in Starscream's grasp he shorted out. Wires crossed. Processer glitching.

His battle computer was worthless. It became as useful as a hole in a boat.

His spark on the other had. His emotions. They screamed and yelled.

"Do something! Do anything! Save them!"

He did. In the end. Managed to pull you from the Seekers grasp.

And within that week he was the one that proposed the break up.

It hurt him more than when Starscream had you.

That look.

Primus that look.

And you agreed. Voice quiet. Eyes dull. Arms pulled into your chest.

You agreed.

Because if course you did.

You trusted him. His opinions.

Primus why did you trust him?

These thoughts rack threw his processor nearly three months later. Energon pooling beneath him. Frothing at his lips.

Prowl. For the first time in his life cycle. Thanked Primus. Thanked whatever God that made him Cybertronian and you human.

He didn't think he would be able to handle the shattering of a Spark bond. Not if it was you. He couldn't do that to you.

"Spark bond mech? What are you going on about." Prowl didn't even acknowledge the voice. It was probably First-aid. Maybe Ratchet. Just whoever reached him first.

"Y/n." Your name left his lips. It tasted sweet on his glossa. If he passed here. Joined the well. It would be with your name on his lips. On his last venting breath. He would brand your name on his spark to join him in the well.

Perhaps it was selfish. But. It was a time of firsts. And, for the first time once more, Prowl was wrong.

You weren't better without him.

And he was desperate for you.

"We're loosing him!" ..... "Get the......"

Do you remember that time when you lost your mom in the store? Maybe at the fair? Do you remember that feeling in your chest? The bubble that swelled in it? That grew and grew until it touched your throat. Made it burn and ache. The tingling in your lips and terror filled you?

You felt that now. And again as Jazz drove you back to the Ark.

Tears falling soundlessly. Wetting the collar of your shirt.

Your hands gather the fabric of your to large sweater as you stare at Jazz's steering wheel. The Autobot symbol almost mocking you.

"Jazz. Why me? Why did you come and tell me?" His blinker clicked on. Then off as he took a right turn. Rain poured against the window. Pitter pattering in the strange quietness of his interior.

For once Jazz played no music. Silence as he drove you to his closest friend.

"He spoke your name. Y/n. He spoke your name like it was the last bit of energon he'd ever drink again." He reached the opening of the Ark. Transformed with that seamless elegance only he had. He bent down to your level momentarily blocking the rain.

"He called you Spark Mate. And no mech or femme does that without serious thought."

Prowl doesn't make mistakes.

Not like this.

.

It's quiet when you walk into the med bay. Soundless save for the humm of the Spark monitor connected to Prowl. The rise and fall of the lines mirroring the push and pull of a mech or femmes spark pulse.

You couldn't read it even if you wanted to.

Ratchet told you that he would be ok. That Prowl would live. His Spark would continue to sing.

But.

God.

It didn't look like it.

His scratched and dented frame. Pristine white turned grey and muddy from the fight.

And those welds. God the welds on his chest. So close to his spark.

So close to what made Prowl. Prowl.

You sat beside him. To hands on his servo. Fingers dancing along the seems. Feathering over charcoal grey paint.

Those servos that made you feel safe. Those servos that held you late at night curled up against his chest.

The tears fell again. Voice catching in your throat. You hands shake. tighten against his. Your shoulders shake. Tense.

"You bastard. You dump me and then go and almost die." You lean against him. Curling up in the space between his hips and shoulder. "Your supposed the be smart mech."

"Smart. Not omnipotent, my spark." The endearment leaves him before he can take it back. And Prowl doesn't. Not here. Not now. Not when he thinks Primus has sent him an angel.

A human concept. One he wishes were true for theirs.

His servo moves on its own. Digit brushing back hair. Curling over your jaw. Wiping away the tears trailing your cheeks.

Your eyes close and you lean against his servo. Hand coming up to rest over his.

"You scared me Prowl. Downright terrified me." You look up at him.

"Prowl I still care about you." You both look to the monitor as it rises in sound. Prowl clears his intake.

"I." He stops. Thinks over his words. Takes this out. Puts this in.

"I never stopped. I never stopped loving you." His blue optics look into you own. Capturing you like when you first met. You found yourself lost in them. "Y/n. I wanted you to be my spark mate. I'm unable to do that because of our differences. But."

Prowl stops. Looks at you. Really looks at you.

Every foul emotion he has boils up.

Fear. Regret. Guilt.

"Are you able to forgive me? For what I've done? Abandoning you? It is selfish to ask o know but-" You cut him off with a solid Thwack! To his arm.

"Prowl what you did was anything but. I know you. And I knew it hurt you more than it did me to do that. I agreed. Of course I did. Because I knew that you still loved me regardless. And I'll always love you. Spark mates or not. Married or not. I'll always love you." You placed kiss to his servo.

"Nothing could change that. Not in this lifetime or the next."

Prowl felt his spark swell. Pride. Relief.

You cared. You still loved him.

Prowl felt his lips pull into a smile. And one fell on your face as well. You cherished when he smiled. It pulled his age back. Made him seem more soft. Sweet. More him. Less tired.

Prowl chuckled. Drew you in close. Pressed a kiss to your shoulder.

"Truly." He muttered. "You are the better half of me." He spoke it into your skin. Laid it there. An unspoken promise of what would come later.

Without the interruption of Ratchet at least.

1. what did you dream about last night? can’t remember Anything i only know it was kinda fun, but i do remember a dream i had couple days ago where i was told to guard one of my friends’ iphone, the bigass obscenely expensive one, except in the dream it was about 3 times the regular size so i was carrying it around in this weird case and clutching it like my life depended on it because failing the mission would have resulted in me getting executed i suppose and i DID fail bcs i lost it or something ….. sdjfhjhf i think i found it eventually in the end but fortunately i woke up before anything even more ridiculous could have happened

3. do you feel more connected to the sun or the moon? hHhhHhHh this is existentially difficult … like right off the bat i was gonna say moon, but now that i think about it maybe i feel more connected to the sun actually !! or at least poetry or quotes about the sun make me go nuts (see: split 2016, the chorus of the modern age, etc.)

5. name a movie that makes you genuinely laugh: ohh a lot of czech movies, i think Světáci (Men About Town) takes the prize it’s so iconic and amazing 

6. when’s the last time you felt like you were floating? oh shit hmmm….. can’t remember to be honest. experienced a surprising State of Mind today on the bus but that was more finally managing to shut up the neverending stream of anxious thoughts and be acutely aware of everything and feeling refreshingly and tangibly present but floating ….. i think i feel like floating when i listen to songs i haven’t heard in ages and the visceral full-body reaction i had when i last heard it that has been conserved the whole time still feels fresh and uniquely relatable even if the edges are a little blurred with nostalgia. or when i discovered ladies in gentlemen we’re floating in space which is fitting !!

21. do you believe in mermaids? i don’t but a part of me doesn’t exclude the possibility of them existing at some point in history 

22. what do you like most about nature? omg i love this one !!! TREES. all kinds of plants basically, i’ve got like 13 of them in my flat. butterflies, dewy grass in the morning, birds, fog !! thunderstorms in the summer with those bigass drops of warm rain, the smell afterwards. i like old abandoned houses and buildings slowly being eaten up by nature and when plants grow in really unexpected places !!! 

25. what’s a song that gives off good vibes anytime you listen to it? sweet FA by peach pit !! i love that song sm … also when a woman is around by unloved, coccoon by milky chance, life itself by glass animals, threat of joy by the strokes !! 

29. do you collect anything? and what are some hobbies you have? THIS IS SUCH A SOFT ASK OH MY GOD ,,, i collect plants and cool rings and pens !!! and my hobbies wow everything i do to produce the good chemicals is already all over the place around here .. i love drawing, even though successfully i can (“CAN”) only draw people, and writing, but only after i read something rly good and my brain doesn’t forget to stuff its pockets full of words and sentences along the way that i could never dream of stringing together under regular blank-mind-blank-page circumstances …. i play guitar and bass and occasionally listen to a french song and call myself a linguist

here’s some recs that i think you’ll like!

futile devices (age of adz) - a gentle, lovely guitar piece about intimacy and yearning. pretty different from the rest of adz, which is more electronic in sound, but the rest of the album is excellent as well!! my other faves from it are “age of adz,” “get real get right,” “i want to be well,” and “all for myself” (which is about murdering your gay lover in a fit of jealousy).

casimir pulaski day (illinois) - about the death of your teenage boy/girlfriend and trying to cope with that. really sad but lighter in sound. other good ones from illinois are predatory wasp (obv), “chicago,” and “concerning the ufo sighting...” (wren is adding in “decatur...”!)

enchanting ghost (all delighted people ep) - really really good about feeling unworthy in a relationship!!!!!!!!! i love most of the songs on adp, especially “from the mouth of gabriel” (about feeling unable to heal the hurts of the world) and “owl and the tanager” (being gay and being hurt and being betrayed and homophobia).

neptune and mercury (planetarium) - the first is about feeling existentially unworthy; the second is more hopeful. planetarium is more on the electronic side, but i think less so than age of adz? at least the non-instrumental songs. my other faves are “pluto,” “saturn,” and “uranus.”

i think carrie & lowell is an incredible album altogether! quiet and thoughtful and sad and so pretty. mostly just guitars. it’s about coping with the death of his estranged mother. i often use it as background music when i’m studying, but it’s also just good to listen to on its own. my faves are “the only thing” (imo the saddest song on the album, always tries to make me tear up), “john my beloved” (gay and sad), “fourth of july” (about embracing the inevitability of death), “death with dignity” (about his mom, the album’s opener), and like.... all of them. listen to this album!!!!

these ones from seven swans and michigan are by wren @mothgeist because i still haven’t listened to those albums lol. they sound more like illinois, so you might like these!!

seven swans: “the dress looks nice on you,” “in the devil’s territory,” “to be alone with you,” and “the transfiguration.” (i’m adding in “size too small,” which i think is about being gay.)

1. name your top three favourite songs: oh jeez alright so i think it’s…… in no particular order because i’m too weak to —- them lmao - ….why even try by hippo campus  - i don’t know why is this song so incredibly important to me, i discovered it like, i think a month ago or so? or maybe longer. but i wasn’t at like, the brightest place in my life and i was drawing while listening to it on repeat and kept listening to it for like, four days straight basically without getting tired of it, and it calmed me down so incredibly much, then i listened to it on the bus on my way to exams and back while reading, and i still listen to it every few days and feel so peaceful and transparent and understood, like the lyrics are fairly depressing but i’d found incredible comfort in them,  ‘on and on, the feelings burst and then they fall - till later on we won’t get back to patch things up’ like??? and the whole lyrics, what it speaks about, it’s so definitive, conclusive, irreversibly fatal, like there’s no going back but also no need to worry about things anymore, nothing will be the same as it used to be, but somehow the song was what made me cope with the fact and helped me find perhaps a more optimistic approach to it all, even if at the time it was more of a medium which i explored the lost, wandering, searching kind of sadness through. it’s not just the lyrics though, it’s the feel of the whole song, the guitar and bass and the tempo and all those little unique elements (the instrumental part before the bridge!!!!!!) and even if i won’t be listening to it in a month, a year, ten years, i think it’ll always remain special and unique to me and will always speak the same language as the part of my heart that had needed it so desperately at the time!!

probably star treatment by arctic monkeys - we’d waited so long for the album even though we made peace with the fact that am was the last thing we’ll ever hear, and i lost my shit when i found out about the news that there was indeed another album coming!!! and then the tiny tbhc snippet on youtube aaaah i remember learning the guitar riff to it immediately and playing it over and over!!! and then we listened to it in my room when it came out and i was stunned the second i heard the opening piano and the backing vocals, and then the ‘as we gaze skyward, ain’t it dark early?’ part towards the end RUINED me and i still cry my eyes out every time i listen to it…. so yeah. am still do really own my ass sddfdf

and the third one……… hhhhhh how am i supposed to choose. probably something off everything you’ve come to expect by tlsp. the entire album is Packed with absolute total fucking bangers and it collectively destroyed us (also the whole tour…………..) probably pattern or element of surprise!!!! or aviation or the title track or used to be my girl or the bourne identity ( oof ) or hhhhhh i really can’t choose, let’s just say that the entire album shares the 3rd position lmao 

4. favourite album cover: oh i like this ask a lot!!! i rly love the cover of revolver by the beatles, it’s so iconic and i adore the style of it, the cover of tranquility base hotel + casino by am bcs,.. c’mon. (i actually made my own version of the model alex made sdkfjhf it was so fun!!! but my hands almost died) andddd is this it obviously, definitely maybe by oasis, and the cover of cullah the wild by cullah is so cool!! (he’s a practically unknown 28yo artist and he has such cool and creative songs!! it’s a mixture between like, alternative blues and alternative hip hop and something uniquely weird and experimental lmao and he releases an album on his birthday every year for free and i love him so much!! he definitely deserves more recognition)
