#i was originally going for a more fae esque idea

do you like faeries? i really love your art style and i’m writing a book rn about fae and honestly would love to hear your opinions on them.
my favorites rn are the weird sisters i have; Ilki, Maisie and Poesi. Ilki has butterfly wings in her face where her eyes are and blinks sideways.
i also have just a straight up shadow demon-esque fae who’s very much a gentle giant.
idk, just wanted to hear some thoughts or maybe ideas. love your art! ❤️
I do I love fairies, I recently rewatched some of the movies too I kinda stop at secret of the wings tho. Silver mist was my absolute favorite. Now that I have reread your ask I realize we are not talking about tinker bell fairies, I swear I have to reread asks over 20 times to understand what’s going on. I want dyslexia super powers or something. But talking about like not tinker bell fairies I want more ocs who are fairies soooo bad my Minecraft oc is the only fairy oc I have and maybe my other fursona? She turns into a bug. But honestly I should just bring back and redesign my dark crystal ocs into little original fairy characters because I really do love them. Because I love little small characters who sleep in leafs and drink out of thimbles. And I miss my silly lesbian monster(she was also a self insert🤫)

Princess Leia, Henrik, & the Dawn Knight
Things are steamrolling ahead and I have no idea what's going on haha. I'm sure other people have mentioned/solved some of the things I will mention, but I guess this post is more for me trying to keep track of what is going on haha
Tumblr media
There seems to be a Princess Leia/Leya, which may be referencing Queen Leah, who is Aurora's mother in the original 1959 Sleeping Beauty. It is said he's very beautiful, and also Henrik's sister. Henrik is not considered a savory person to be around, and not as attractive compared to Princess Leia. I believe Henrik in the captain of the SIlver Owls. I thought I didn't know who was based on, until I looked at King Stefan (more on that later)...
Tumblr media
It's rumored that Princess Leia is in love with the Dawn Knight, which is where I get a little confused. From what we know of the Knight of Dawn/ the Dawn Knight, he's extremely handsome, strong to the point where even the fae fear him, and is basically the classical knight in shining armor. Where I get confused is that the Knight of Dawn has golden hair, and Lilia says it is rumored that he was "gifted" with beauty. This description of the Dawn Knight's appearance sounds...awfully familiar to Aurora?
Tumblr media
Since this is TWST, I shouldn't take the references too seriously, but I'm hung up on how he was "gifted" with beauty. Aurora was given the gift of beauty by Fauna (which kinda fits the nature-esque theme we have atm). However, this Dawn Knight is, well, a knight. We don't know his name, I believe, but if he is based off Aurora, the story would turn out rather differently.
Edit: Now im even more confused! I thought I solved the case, but the Sleeping Beauty mentions that Aurora was "named after the dawn." Hello?? Perhaps Aurora really was a badass knight in the TWST universe lmao
Tumblr media
There is the chance that the Dawn Knight has some connection to King Stefan, however. King Stefan was Aurora's father, and didn't play a major role in the original movie.
Tumblr media
However, in the 2014 live-action disney movie, Maleficent, King Stefan betrays Maleficent by cutting off her wings to win King HENRY'S favor. Henrik is heavily related to name Henry, and King Henry was the father to Queen Leila. King Henry waged the war against the Moors, and passed the duty onto King Stefan after his death, and with Aurora's curse, this all transformed King Stefan into a tyrant.
Perhaps the Knight of Dawn draws inspiration from King Stefan, and Henrik draws inspiration from King Henry?? Instead of being Leia's father, Henrik is Princess Leia's brother, which still has a signifcant connection to the movie. The name Henrik also means "Lord of the House," which may further imply that the similarities are intentional.
Later, Silver is mistaken for "that person," but it couldn't be the Knight of Dawn because Silver doesn't have that blond hair or imposing figure. Did the Dawn Knight and Princess Leia already have a child? Because I have no idea who "that person" could be yet, but the Silver Owls seemed to have a positive view on "that person."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm also wondering over the nature of Silver's sleepiness. He says so himself, how it's extremely unusual and no doctor or mage can figure out what it is. Silver seems to have some connection to the War time period, and I think it may have something to with his sleeping blessing/curse. Idia says that the magic behind a blessing or curse is very similar, but the intent behind it (e.g positive or negative) that distinguishes the two. Going back to Sleeping Beauty, Aurora would technically have both a blessing and a curse, the curse from Maleficent and the blessing/loophole from Merryweather.
But what does this all mean???
I have no idea haha. I'm just trying to figure out these maybe-important NPCs before trying to delve into the whole Levan mess haha. If y'all have any ideas or corrections, please share! I'm very intruiged by the direction this story is going.

Weekend WIP Game
Thank you, @whimsymanaged, for the tag, I am sorry it's taken me so long to do this ha ha!
Rules: List your WIPs below (if you only write one fic at a time, feel free to include future WIPs/ideas!) then answer the following questions. Then, tag as many people as you have WIPs (or more).
1. WIP List:
Do I include Drabble series I haven't quite completed? Do I include unposted fics? Original works I write on the side?
Damn, this is hard!
I'm just going to start and see where this takes me...
Here we go:
Chapter Fics Currently Being Posted:
Petals (Dramione, Fae AU, Fated Mates) - Petals just kind of ... happened. It was meant to be a quick five-chapter fic, but the chapters kept getting longer and longer and all of a sudden I have a 90,000+ fic on my hands. Definitely the longest chapters I've written for a book/fic. I tend to like to keep chapters no more than 7k long, but Petal's average is something like 18k. I have no explanation other than it felt right.
Sacred Blood (Dramione, Mafia AU, Alchemy instead of magic) - I absolutely love Mafia Romance, and so it was natural for me to be inspired to write a DHr Mafia fic. This story took a back seat while I got Petals out of my system, unfortunately, it's been a hard year and Petals has taken an age to finish. But I can't wait to get back to my murder bbies.
Wings ... and Other Romantic Things (Charmione, Second Chance Love, Mystery) - A little romcom-esque romp. Hermione is forced to work with Charlie (an ex-fling during the war) when local Veelas are being attacked. Charlie and Hermione must solve the crime and catch the attacker, all while past feelings come back in full force.
Drabble Series In Progress:
Think Of Me (Dramione, Pierced C*ck Draco, Curious Hermione) - I have literally one more chapter to this raunchy, crack fic. I swear I will get to it soon!
Games (Dramione, Panville, Bluna, Theo/Padma, Cho/Dean, Ginny/Harry, Ginny/Seamus, Magical Sex Toys) - I get this one requested to finish a lot (you filthy heathens). I have five more pairings to do!
Ferrets and Fun (Dramione, Ferret Animagus Draco, Fluff/Humor) - I adore Ferret!Draco. Truly. There is no real plot in this drabble series. Just whatever inspires me. I should write another installment of his shenanigans soon ...
Lucius Malfoy and the Eternal Struggle of Being Him (Dramione, Lucius POV) - Same as above, no real plot, just dramatic Daddy Lucius watching his son be in love with Hermione. He's not bad in these, just extra!
Fics I am Currently Writing But Have Not Posted:
Magic Finds A Way (Dramione, Jurassic Park AU) - This fic is an absolute delight. I am actually really proud of it and all the parallels I've made to the original JP book and the films. But it will probably be a while before I post it :(. It's gotta be almost completed before I start to post and it's got to be absolutely perfect to me.
Demagogue (Second Gen, OG MCs but descendants of Dramione, Hinny, and Voldy) - This is my Magnum Opus. And like Magic Finds A Way, will not be posted until I feel it is perfect. But it's a twisty one, with lots of action, mystery, and pining romance. I can't wait to start posting about it.
The Perfect Alpha (Dramione, A/B/O) - I go feral for A/B/O, so while I'm surprised I haven't written more of it (only one little drabble), I am also not surprised. This fic is a lofty one, and my ambition for it has caused it to be put on the back burner. :(
Sad Eyes: The Expansion Series (Dramione, Theo/Padma, Blaise/Luna, Panville) I have three spin-off short chapter fics based in the world of my Sad Eyes fic. All feature a different pairing, tackling different types of trauma and how they heal after the war.
Curses of the Sand (Panville, Adventure through Egypt) - I started writing this fic for a Panville fest but fell behind due to school. I love the story and setting and pairing, so I will definitely be posting it at some point!
2. Which of your WIPs is currently the longest?
Petals at 92,642.
3. Which WIP do you expect will end up the longest?
Demagogue. POSSIBLY Magic Finds A Way.
4. Which WIP is your favourite to write/the most enjoyable to write? Why?
Too difficult a question. I love all my fics for different reasons and it really depends on my current mood and place in life that decides what I want to work on. I'm going through a rough time right now, so I would have to say Petals because Hermione is also currently struggling and it's nice to not feel alone in that regard.
But, I daydream about Demagogue and the Sad Eyes Expansions the most, I would say.
5. Which WIP do you find the most intimidating to write? Why?
Magic Finds A Way. I am worried no one will care about it since it isn't the typical Dramione fic. It's science that has been twisted by magic and dinosaurs ha ha. And if it "flops" I would be devastated because I have literally worked so hard on the parallels between it and the OG materials and media.
I guess the same could be said about Demagogue. It's my baby, my most precious creation, and if no one reads it because it's second-gen and OG characters, with the main pairings fandom likes just being sided characters ... I would probably leave fandom lol, I'm being dramatic but also not really. I am not sure how I would take it if no one gave it a chance.
6. Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why?
Oh, well, read my answer to the question above!
7. Which of your WIPs will you seek out a beta/sensitivity reader for? Why?
Magic Finds A Way. I have two betas that have read the OG Jurassic Park, and also have a fandom friend helping me with the French Draco speaks.
I have the same betas for every chapter fic I write. They both encourage and rip apart my writing to help me flesh out every single aspect of my stories.
Drabbles? You get what you get 🤣 from me.
8. Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of writer's block?
I don't really get writer's block. I know exactly what I want to happen in all of my story ideas, but I do have periods of time where I am physically unable to write whether that be irl drama, my health, or a busy work schedule that leaves me exhausted.
9. Which WIP has your favourite OC? Tell us about them?
Demagogue! Yes! So, In this fic, The Cursed Child does not exist and my MC is named Hallow and she is the abandoned daughter of Voldemort, adopted by Harry and Ginny after the war.
10. Which WIP is the sexiest?
Well, that depends on what you like 😉
Creature fucking, particularly wing kink? Read Petals.
You into egregious smut? Read my Games series.
Sharp suits, hand kinks, and men who would literaly murder anyone who touches you---that does it for you? Sacred Blood is your jam.
When I finally post my A/B/O, I am sure it will take the cake for spice.
11. Which WIP is the angstiest?
Oh my gosh, Sad Eyes. Hand's down.
12. Which WIP has the best characterisation (in your humble opinion)?
Demagogue. But, for a fic I am currently posting/have posted? Sad Eyes.
13. Which WIP has the best scene setting (in your humble opinion)?
Magic Finds A Way - Isla Nublar (dinosaur island, like come on!)
Curses of the Sand - Egypt
Petals - Faerie Realm
14. Which WIP have you worked the hardest on?
Magic Finds A Way
Demagogue
Petals
15. Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? Why?
I've kind of already said why, but Demagogue and Magic Finds A Way.
16. Do you dream about any of your WIPs?
Yes ha ha.
17. Do any of your WIPs have particular complexities that your other fics don't?
They all have different complexities and characterizations of the characters we all know and love. I try to change things up with every fic!
18. Which WIP is the funniest or has the most humour?
Lucius Malfoy and the Eternal Struggle of Being Him cracks me up. I love Lucius. And though Sad Eyes is about healing trauma and all that, I think there are some pretty funny moments and quips in that fic.
19. Do any of your WIPs contain outside POVs or a deep dive on a character other than the main ship? How are you finding that process?
Lucius Malfoy and the Eternal Struggle of Being Him, Lucius' POV.
My Sad Eyes Expansion fics as well as my Games series are both diving into pairings I have never done before nor see often or at all!
Petals has POV parts from Narcissa's and it's a really cool way to create an even bigger picture in the aspect of court politics within the fae realm. It makes the stakes seem greater than just Draco and Hermione being mates, etc.
20. Tell us one thing we don't know about one or more of your WIPs.
I have a song for every scene of anything I write. Most of everything I come up with is inspired by music. If you ever ask me what song helped me write a scene/fic/drabble, I will definitely have one to share.
Tagging: Look, I have too many WIPs to tag, so I am not even going to try. I also think this challenge has already made the rounds since I am so behind on doing it. So I don't want to bother anyone by accidentally double-tagging them!

🌺 Hello lovelies! I'm a 21+ year old woman looking for someone to do a MxM original fantasy rp with!
🌻 I'm looking for someone who is interested in a degree of world building and plotting. I would love a "classic" medieval-esque world but I'm also open to alternative ideas as well (urban modern fantasy, other pseudo-historical settings... whatever else you can think of!). Our world doesn't have to be super original, in fact I'm very open to taking from existing IP and mixing and matching as we want but I love getting to come up with some lore that could be relevant to our characters (think "how does magic work?", "what abilities and weaknesses do our vampires have?", "what are the different elven cultures like? How do they view humans? how do the humans view them?" etc.)
Some of my favourite tropes for this are:
vampires
elves
witches
fae/fairies (Celtic/traditional depictions)
other mythological creatures?
magical realism
knights (and the royals they protect 👀)
angels and demons (not necessarily Christian/Jewish) and the occult
gods
djinn, genies (mythology or popular culture)
soulmates (😍)
...
(Honestly, I'm open to a lot more!)
🌷 Despite loving to world build I prefer character-driven/focused stories overall and am not overly interested in pure "action" (combat etc.).
🌼 For the roleplay, I would love to stick to one main (MxM) couple but I'm open to including other MxM or FxF side pairings as well (not a requirement and I don't mind sticking to only our main guys!). No MxF though, please! I am also more than open to focusing on important platonic relationships for our characters.
🌸 One thing I want to note is that I don't like it when MxM (or FxF) pairings emulate heterosexual gender roles. There should not be the feeling of "this character is the woman in the relationship because he bottoms" (of course I'm not against a man who is more feminine when it comes to his mannerisms or interests, I just don't want to have the feeling that this is a straight couple just with the pronouns switched out so please no stereotypical top/bottom or seme/uke dynamics).
🌻I'm open to eventually writing smut and we can discuss the details of that as well but please keep in mind I'm not really looking for a roleplay that overly focuses on that.
🌺I write in 3rd person, past or present tense depending on your preference but please no 1st or 2nd person. When it comes to post length, I'm not super sure what I'm looking for and don't want to limit myself either way but I think shorter posts might be easier for me to handle while starting out (of course it also depends on what is going on in the roleplay and I think starters/time skips probably require longer posts anyway). I would prefer to roleplay on Discord.
🌼 A little warning beforehand: While I have been writing original stories and fanfiction since I was 11, I'm a new roleplayer and don't have much experience with this. I'm also not a native speaker and not always available due to health issues. I might be able to reply every single day for a while and then disappear for a week or two. Please be okay with this if you decide to roleplay with me!
If you are interested in roleplaying with me, please like this post and I'll get back to you!
Thank you for reading ~

can you tell us what each of the town's regions are like?
I’m going to link you guys to the locations page here, so it’s easier to follow along !! San Paradiso, in geographical layout, is similar to that of the state New York with inspirations from other places as well ! The Golden Styx, of course travels all around the city, and is the main means of public transportation ( aside from Taxis )  BUT REMEMBER ! Once you hop on the train from the outside world, the train will only take you to the different boroughs of San Paradiso ( Virtual Utopia, Eccojam, Vaportrap, Oceangrunge, Dreampunk & Signalwave )
When I was creating the page in the beginning, I was originally only going to stick to mirroring those five boroughs—each exhibiting its own lifestyle and culture and mirror to that of  New York, but I deviated from that because I had so many ideas for locations and didn’t want to put our muses in something too similar to the real world !! I’ll go ahead and break down the regions for you as best as I can !
VIRTUAL UTOPIA - this is where the Golden Styx main station is! So if your human came recently via the train ! This is the first borough they saw ! It’s more or less a general hub and safe zone for all species. Think of it as the main metropolitan area with lots of fun activities to jump into ! General Population: Humans, Fae, Witches, Familiars, Shifters
ECCOJAM - this is more or less the residential-esque portion of San Paradiso! In that while it’s still a little busy and closer to a downtown it’s far less busy than Virtual Utopia, with more residential areas for humans ! Neighborhoods include gated communities and gated apartments !  General Population: Humans & Witches
VAPORTRAP - is our ghost town region– where the center of San Paradiso used to be located, and where the ferry comes to and from OCEANGRUNGE ! Now the region is heavily influenced by Boogeymen, and heavily polluted with nightmares and insomnia cases ! Neighborhoods include fixer uppers, abandoned lots, & enclaves of impoverished neighborhoods as well as antique stores and old archives ! General Population: Ghosts, unprotected humans & those brave enough to inhabit with spirits.
SIGNALWAVE - so if I were to say that VAPORTRAP was lower Manhattan, SIGNALWAVE would be upper Manhattan, where the skyscrapers, the condos, the high-rise apartments and commercial properties are located ! This is another location that is on the tipping point of becoming taken over by boogeys, since it’s where Gluttony, our head of sleep research resides ! General Population: Primarily Boogeymen and Ghouls. Ghosts are also known to haunt the areas. a few Vampires have been spotted as well as other insidious creatures
DREAMPUNK - If SIGNALWAVE and VAPORTRAP are Manhattan, DREAMPUNK would be Brooklyn, so to speak. In that I took inspiration from Brownstone buildings and the nightlife. Though because DREAMPUNK is primarily vampireland, a lot of the buildings are underground– think an underground train drop off that leads you to underground bars, shopping centers, and a bank ! General Population: Mostly Vampires, and other visitors, scattered ghouls and those with a hankering for nightlife.
OCEANGRUNGE - is a mix of any boardwalk tourist spot and Coney Island, with separated little islands for beach resorts and little shops and places ! Since this borough is mostly surrounded by water, it’s a safe haven for sirens and mermaids– though the species don’t always get along ! Think beaches, boat houses, cottages by the shore, and vacation spots ! General Population: Sirens primarily with some Human visitors, and a small wolf/ shifter population
so the thing is, we also have a location application here, where you can apply to bring a new location and have your muse be the owner ( or put in a wc for an owner tbh ! ) if you find a region / district / borough that you thinks needs some of your added flair to it 👀 !! world building is my favorite part of this admin jobby thingy, and I’d love for this to be a collaborative effort with all my members and prospective members ! please let me know if this helps too ! This got a little longwinded and I apologize.

WIP Poll...2!
This is based off of the badly summarized WIP poll...now with good summaries (under the cut!)
Last Light - dark sapphic fantasy. The winner of the last poll! The world is slowly being consumed by darkness - and vampires. When an ancient living library reappears, a witch, a vampire, and a werewolf must all work together to navigate it - and maybe find the origin of the curse. But not everything that's dead has stayed dead. (coming out sooooonish?) Shadowcast - gaslamp mlm fantasy. Emery is content to create ornaments that deter monsters known as shadows in the small town of Silverhaven. Until those attacks become too frequent to ignore. The knight send a small envoy, and sparks fly between him and a young knight named Lucas. But there's something in his past that he never could have predicted, and maybe everything he knew isn't true at all. Ghost Punch - paranormal horror comedy. Shay does not believe in ghosts, but she still goes ghost hunting with her best friend, Max, on Friday nights. One such evening turns deadly when it becomes apparent that not only are ghosts very real, but she has the ability to touch and see them. She'll have to team up with a fellow ghost hunter, a witch, and an amnesiac ghost if she wants to save her town from supernatural forces. And if she can touch ghosts, she can punch them. (if you would read this one, the first two books are out, and also this is my number 1 child I love these books with all my heart) Princess of the Monsters - fantasy. Dungeon diving is the most lucrative business on the continent. Each monster has a gem that can power magic devices - the bigger the monster, the bigger the gem, the more magic it holds. And the more it's worth. A small party enters a dungeon and finds a girl down there. they have no real choice but to bring her with them, but she seems to attract monsters, bringing creatures to the surface. (honestly this is a new-ish idea I really need to flesh it out because it sounds so fun. heavily dnd inspired)
Ocean Sky - fantasy. Centuries before, all of the ocean water was turned into aether, filling the sky with a fantastical magical ocean. Flying ships joined whales, mermaids, and jellyfish storms. And with flying ships, came pirates. A decade before, a spell was stolen from the magical academy of the floating isles. Blamed for its disappearance, Amira and her friends are expelled. So, doing the only thing they can do, they turn to piracy, becoming the first wizard pirates. But the spell is still out there, with a former classmate, and it could change everything. (i still need most of the plot this is mostly about the worldbuilding right now) Snow as White as the Moon - sapphic fantasy. There are three rules. Never go into the forest alone. Never bargain with the fae. And no matter what you do, never enter their domain. When Addie's best friend disappears, she's ready to break all three rules. Even with the Sight, it'll take everything she has to not be tempted down into the depths forever. Especially with the attention of the enigmatic Princess Briar. (I wrote a draft of this for nanowrimo one year! I probably will never rewrite it into anything resembling a good story, but it's a very loose and fast retelling of the snow queen)
Summoning Trouble - cozy urban-esque fantasy. David and Wallace have been running a magical anomaly investigation agency together for years, but lately are struggling. Hiring Lin seems like it will solve a lot of problems, but their first case ends up being a lot more than they bargained for. They'll have to handle a lot of changes, the least of all being the demon someone is trying to summon. (hopefully coming out sometime this year or next!)

no. 5 for eucatastrophe
5. What do you wish someone would ask you about [insert fic]? Answer it now!
'you've mentioned once before that bits of what was meant to be eucatastrophe turned into melliferous. what bits, and how?'
My original concept for Eucatastrophe (before I even realized that there was going to be cosmic horror elements, or any of the mirror-people stuff, and actually a lot of the bits that make it what it was) I had the idea of writing a story where Thomas got kidnapped by the fae, and the Sides had to venture into fairyland to rescue him. My plan was to have each chapter correspond with and be titled after a song from Hadestown, with Patton (for some reason) being the one who took the very strong Orpheus role. (although all of them would have ended up having Orpheus-esque roles in the story, and can you tell this is the bit that turned into Melliferous? Yeah.) It was going to be gently unclear whether they were in actual fae territory, or actual hell territory, or some combination of both, and I still have the remnants of Janus's riddle-battle with the fairy king (who got split into the Two-Faced King and the Erlking later on) lying around somewhere. As soon as I realized that I wanted to lean more into the fantasy elements the whole Hadestown-title plan fell away, and I started drafting out what would become the Eucatastrophe I ended up with.
I'm glad I managed to pick up (most of) the scraps I abandoned and turn it into Melliferous later on, though - I think that story deserved to be told.

Do you read WIPs yourself? Do you have any favourites that you have enjoyed/are looking forward to/would recommend?
Active WIPs I Like:
The Golden Rose (x) - Absolutely amazing game as I’m sure everyone knows. I’m terrible and have no idea who I’m going to end up with as my RO. Hearts will be broken, that I’m certain of. I get guilt tripped everytime by my friends by posting the scene where Hadrian’s crying after you turn him down as punishment.
West of Autumn Boulevard (x) - Love the creepy vibes of this game! The ending really got me on the edge of my seat. Really scratched my horror itch in COG form. All you Alexmancers are on my shitlist 👀 because I’m sure that man is up to no good.
God of the Red Mountain (x) - Beautifully written game and has so much customization and branching it takes my breath away. Another game where I honestly have no clue who I’m gonna end up with. Thinkin Kaski but uhhh it’s a toss up ngl….
To The Whistling Winds (x) - I don’t talk about it on my writing blog but I’m an awful awful theme park nerd and this WIP was basically homebrewed for me. Theme parks and weird fae stuff? Shout out to Bubs for making my dream WIP.
Supernatural in New York (x) - I love urban fantasy so much??? And SiNY is basically a classic wip, at this point, I’ve been following it for so long. The world is just so big? I really am looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Nevermoore (x)- Imagine, you’re in an episode of the Twilight Zone. Literally trapped in a town with a bunch of people displaced across time. No one can die and no one can get out. Sounds pretty interesting right?? Right. Now go read this game.
Porthencrawl Witness (x) - Another weird town. But this time you’re in on the weirdness or you were rather. Things are weirder now and you have to figure out why. Time travel - pocket dimension shenanigans ensue.
Inactive(?) WIPs I Like:
note: if ur active i apologize. ily.
Mortal Hero (x) - Really not a surprise that I love a game that features mythology heavily. Any game that lets me romance Mercury is a good game to me.
Model Citizens (x) - Raf….. my heart bleeds for you. This is an oldie but a goodie. Also a Superhero game where you basically play as Louis Lane-esque MC with a tragic supervillian EX.
Reports from Philomenia (x) - There is not enough good sci-fi games??? Like honest to god aliens from outer space sci-fi but here it is.
Abysm’s Veil  (x)  - Basically you are a VENGEFUL MERMAID SPIRIT or maybe not? Play and see what happens :) Lovely game and is my go to sleeper recommendation.
Son of Satan: The Mortal Coil  (x) - Loved this game! The world is just amazing and the writing is top notch. Gives me Good Omen Vibes though, a tad more serious I’d argue.
Guinevere   (x) -  People really ought to play this tbh. There’s like two full books out. If you’re bored and want to spend the night playing some Arthurian Legend WIP here ya go. Be aware that it’s genderlocked female though.
Dead WIPs (call them RIPS):
Monsters of New Haven High (x) - EXTENSIVE amount of customization. It goes like the Dragon Age Origins Route in that whatever character origin you don’t pick for your MC that origin is then a SIDE CHARACTER in the game. Like how crazy is that ?????? I don’t usually care for High School settings but this got my attention easily.
The Beast in the Castle (x)  - GOD This WIP is like my Lost Lenore…. I cry and grovel and its grave of a forum page occasionally imagining what could have been… I am an absolute fool for Beauty and the Beast stories and having a IF version had me SO excited.
Children of the Gods  (x) - Another mythology WIP that I used to love? Like gave me some Percy Jackson vibes for sure but was also different enough that it was unique enough for me to enjoy it separately from that. RIP indeed.
Heaven’s Dog: Eulogy of Who I Used to Be  (x)  - Basically a Magic Girl WIP. I loved Cardcaptor Sakura and Sailor Moon growing up so this was like nostalgic in a way…

In the God Techno fic, what are the other gods? Or is that spoilers???
HEWWO!! i’m so. gfshLFKJGHLGKJ!!! excited that you’re interested enough to ask about them!!! it isn’t spoilers, so i’ll share some of them + the ones mentioned already in the fic just to keep it in one place! <3
phil is the original god, the source of all things; he’s old and knows everything, that’s his vibe. he legit just created the whole universe and was like cool anyway i will now let other gods handle this shit so i don’t Have to... HAHAGLKHFJLJ
techno is, obviously, over war and famine, but he gets the “blood god” title from the general idea of bloodshed and death that’s associated with his existence.
puffy is semi-related to techno in this au! so while he rules war as a concept of violence, she more so rules the craft and structure of it. so: her domain is strategy and drought. she’s often depicted as sailing on seas of rainwater that she didn’t allow to fall, hence the drought— but she’s not too difficult to appease.
wilbur rules madness and song, and he is featured in merlin’s fic with this ruling! (let me promote your fics y’all i will always bring up your content!!!) he’s a favorite of people like musicians and poets, of course, and if he is worshipped in the way he prefers, he blesses his followers with muse and inspiration. and if they don’t? there’s a reason that artists are stereotyped as being unstable 🤷‍♀️
tommy is still young, compared to the others— and it shows, for sure. he rules pride and the “ego,” as in the self and identity. he wants to be worshipped, acknowledged. because he’s so young he has different ideals than the older gods; he wants gifts of new, interesting things from the mortal world, not sacrifices of grain and firstborn lambs and OLD PERSON SHIT LIKE THAT. he also just spends a lot of time with humans in general.
dream is a trickster-esque god ruling illusions and sleep. in the context of the lore, things like insomnia and psychosis are attributed to his influence, though rather unfairly because they’d be there with or without him. he also has strong ties to the concepts of both revenge and harmony. he’s not difficult to commune with, as far as gods go. what’s challenging with him is telling deception from truth, and understanding his motivations at any point.
tubbo is a demigod, not a full god— but still in the cast here, of course! he’s a child of the harvest goddess. now, who that is actually IS spoilers so that’s all for that part! ;) but he can control certain aspects of flora and fauna and has one hell of a green thumb!
ranboo is ALSO not a god, he’s a member of a fae-like race that exists to be archivists. they invoked dream’s ire and he killed all of them, except ranboo. he was left instead with the ultimate punishment for one of his kind: a curse of forgetting. he and tubbo are committed to each other for a lifetime (in a platonic sense, of course), hence the stellae dianthus in ch2. that relationship is notably the only reason dream spared him FNDKFNSV
schlatt rules over authority and greed; the two are very closely tied, after all. he tends to be called upon most by monarchs and others of similar ranking. he can bless them with prosperity and the approval of their people, but he is extremely unforgiving when it comes to getting his end of the agreement fulfilled. if he isn’t paid what he’s owed, he will ensure that not only do his blessings vanish, every other good thing goes with them.
quackity rules pleasure and indulgence. alcohol, drugs, food, sex, money, power— it all centers around the overindulgence, and that’s his domain. anything that’s ‘too much,’ y’know??? he’s sociable as hell, and a favorite of mortals because of his domain. he and schlatt are very closely tied for that reason,,, sort of a business partners relationship to get the most for both of them.
i have more but i see this post is getting QUITE long and i can’t expect anybody to read all that do i’ll stop here but. YEAH EVERYONE HAS A PLACE!!!

WIPWed: Festering Edition: 6/2/21: WINTERS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
@bloody-no-kissu @tenshiyuna & two (?) Nonnies...y'all thirsty for those snake dicks, huh? 😂
So as of right now, here's the Winters folder:
Tumblr media
The first two (Winters Can be Lonely & Longest Night) are already done/posted. The Bedtime Story is the file that started the whole mess (and most of that file is in the original Winters), and the 'Bandit' part is...something I might go back to but needs serious consideration. (That note from the original Winters about the chapter that got Real Dark Real Fast? That's the Bandits part. It started going in a direction I wasn't comfortable with, and while I like the concept/idea there are parts of it that need major tweaking if it's ever going to get posted.)
"Summer Skin" is...ok sorry MA I'm throwing you under the bus. 😂 @mamanabeille's new pet gave her a heart attack the other day when he started shedding, and after we all knew he was ok & the drama was past my Plunny Brain went "...oooooh What If." Bc did you know when lizards shed their skins they flop over all dead-like and scare their poor mamans half to death? 😂 I don't have anything for this beyond notes, bc it literally just happened, but the idea is it's the first summer after they've mated and Luka didn't warn Marinette about shedding. Chaos ensues.
"Human Feet" is one Bloods prompted with the idea that Luka, not having spent a lot of time around humans, is fascinated by Marinette's feet. It's set within the first few days after they met, when Marinette comes back to the river to chat up this fascinating snakeman she just met, and she goes for a swim that puts her bare feet on full display. (There's a Tarzan-esque scene where she kicks him in the face and everything. I'm 90% sure I'm writing this one just for that scene. 😂)
"A Day in Your Scales" is another DQ & totally because of her Naginette fic The Magic of You. It's still getting hammered out as to setting/etc, but the initial idea was Marinette was having a moment of insecurity, wondering if Luka regretted mating a human, and made the mistake of sharing this fear with Rose. Rose, being the oh-so-helpful fae sister she is, tries to cast a glamour on Marinette that would make her a nagi for a day - except it backfires and also turns Luka human. And it's supposed to just be silly, fluffy learning how the other works/communicating/shenanigans (like, y'know, Luka learning how to walk).
Rose left before Luka returned, though she was loathe to leave Marinette alone with her concerning thoughts. When she relayed their conversation to Juleka, the nagi’s surprised expression mirrored the one Rose had worn.
“Ssssshe’s worried about what?” Juleka asked, her tail flicking behind her in agitation. Rose groaned as she threw her hands up in the air.
“I know, right?” she cried. “She’s being silly! How long have they been together now? And Luka’s crazy about her – like hell he’d actually leave her!”
“Luka is fierccccely loyal,” Juleka hummed in agreement. “Even if it was in our cussstom to leave a mate, he would be unlikely to. Not Marinette.”
Rose hummed, her troubled gaze on the vegetables she was chopping for their dinner. Juleka shifted again, looking at the mushrooms she was cleaning without really seeing them.
“…did ssshe ssssay why?” she asked, looking back at her mate. Rose shook her head.
“Not really, no,” she sighed. “It…kinda came out of the blue? We were talking about Anarka’s visit, and then she just…got really quiet. You don’t think it was Ma, do you? You don’t think she finally met Anarka and got scared off?”
“If our father hasn’t ssscared her off yet, I highly doubt Ma will,” Juleka scoffed. The ghost of a smile flickered on Rose’s face at that, but it didn’t really last. Juleka reached out and laid a hand on Rose’s shoulder. “I’m sssure it’sss nothing, love. Marinette may be a witch, but ssshe is ssstill human. It’ssss natural to have ssssuch doubtsss.”
“I never did,” Rose tutted, and Juleka rolled her eyes with a smile. Rose squeaked as she moved, quick as lightning, to jerk her away from the table and wrap her serpentine half around her. She loomed over her fae mate, a knowing smirk on her face. Her tongue flicked out, scenting the air around them. Rose loved when Juleka took charge like this. She could smell the sudden shift in her mood, from worried to aroused, and she savored it.
“You are Sssídhe,” she hissed, stroking the backs of her fingers along Rose’s cheek. “You have always been more…accussstomed to our world than Marinette. Ssshe ssstill has much to learn.”
…Juleka immediately knew, despite her intentions, that it was the wrong thing to say. Rose’s eyes had widened in delight, that familiar I Know How to Fix This! light gleaming in her sapphire depths. Juleka’s hand cupped her cheek, and she tapped her with a claw.
“Rose, no,” she said, but Rose only pulled her down for an enthusiastic kiss. She groaned when Rose pulled away and immediately began shimmying out of her coils. “Rose.”
“Oh, relax!” Rose tutted, waving her off. She winked at her over her shoulder, and then disappeared with a pop, her words echoing in the air around them. “It’ll be fine!”
Juleka sighed and picked up her cleaned mushrooms, carrying them over to the other vegetables to finish preparing their dinner. Despite what Rose said, she knew her mate. She always meant well, but…
Her eyes landed on the charmed hat hanging by the door. Rose always meant well, but her plans also always had a way of backfiring on them. She just prayed Rose knew what she was doing.

🍵 On Fantasy Tropes you think are stupid?
salt salt salt salt ; accepting
ok lets start with some minor ones: when fantasy writers seem to be obsessed with food. now, im not knocking the worldbuilding power of well written descriptions of food, it can give you an idea of what kind of food is not only present in a culture, but also among social classes, the food customs of a cultural group, and individual characters in general, how they might react to new food or 'gross' food, can be an insight into characterization albeit a little one.
but ive sure everyone who reads fantasy novels has had this experience, where the book is going, going, going, normal amounts of description for things, and then the characters sit down to eat and its like, almost pornographic description of the food. like im ngl, the food described often sounds fucking delicious or at the very least interesting, but my problem is when it slows down the pace of the story/chapter, and is way more descriptive than the rest of the story. also a lot of fantasy writers use food scenes as just a way to exposition dump about the type of foods there are, instead of making it a scene about how characters interact with food and food customs and like, conversations around the dinner table. those are the interesting, juicy bits (no pun intended) of food-centric scenes in fantasy novels. i think the reason fantasy writers do it is because its a way to flex their descriptive, worldbuilding muscles with minimal effort compared to other aspects of worldbuilding lol. i dont believe that food scenes serve no purpose, but i do believe its a trope at this point for fantasy writers to go overboard with their obsession with writing descriptions of food haha.
something a little bit more serious and far reaching: how ideas of good vs evil are portrayed in the fantasy genre, particularly tolkien-esque/inspired, high fantasy genre. its no secret to anyone who has spent any amount of time interacting with the fantasy genre that there are racist, xenophobic, or culturally insensitive undertones to a lot of stuff with the genre, that just kinda get swept under the rug. in western high fantasy, the struggle of good vs evil is not only shown as something with very little shades of grey inbetween, characters are often all or nothing, where entire groups or races in fantasy are considered outright evil or good, and also showing the struggle of good vs evil being synonymous with the duality of dark vs light. and not only is this a very flat, western view of duality, it has roots in colorism and white supremacy.
like for example, 'good' races like elves, for example, are overwhelming shown as tall, white and pale, blonde, eurocentric features, and having a very eurocentric model of society, while on the opposite end of the spectrum, 'evil' races like orcs or goblins, are overwhelmingly portrayed as having 'savage, tribal' societies, having non-western traits and exaggerated traits/caricature traits of people of color, the idea of light vs dark gets played into very literally in this case. or like, how the idea of dark elves vs light elves in norse mythology, has been perverted within the fantasy genre to mean "light skinned, good elves' vs 'dark skinned, evil elves'. or the way much of the americanized world views the fae, specifically the seelie and unseelie courts, where the 'summer' court of the unseelie is automatically seen as good and pure, while the 'winter' court of the unseelie is seen as evil and dark, when in reality within original tradition both courts had morality that was considered beyond human morality, and that they embodied both the fruitful and the destructive traits of their respective areas of nature. a lot of mythology and legends that explore duality get boiled down to these extremely eurocentric, colorist, black and white themes that are very present within the genre of fantasy as a whole.
and its not to say that people cant write orcs anymore, or that we cant write stories about the struggle between light and darkness, but we have to be aware of the history and social implications of it in order to make better fantasy fiction. like we need to be aware of just how much the fantasy genre often shows a very americanized, westernized view of morality and the world, and once you see that, you start to see examples of it everywhere, even in very small ways. theres also a lot of anti-semetic tropes in fantasy genre, and cultural appropriation, and idk, i feel like as a writer in said genre i gotta be aware of these things so i dont fall into the same traps that other writers have.

Old scrapped concept of Ephrel, the dokkalfarian summoner.
Ephrel might have some tweaks done to their hair shape eventually, but otherwise, they were mostly as I hoped they'd be, especially given the context. In general, I wanted to strike more of a balance between how closely they resembled one of the possibly-generated Robinsonas in Awakening, but also have somewhat of a strong resemblance to Robin and Sparrow respectively, further going with the idea of what drew Chrom to the two (their similar looks). Otherwise, I was definitely planning on redesigning their clothes completely, where this was originally one of many ideas on open-back clothes with neutral tones to them that I'm still not entirely satisfied of.
I also did eventually want to draw their fully realized state as Spectabilis at some point too.
Character details under the cut.
---
Having been a summoner prior to Chrom and Sparrow, Ephrel was eventually succeeded (unknowingly) by Chrom, who later then became more officially succeeded by Sparrow as summoner. Having came from a world heavily tied with the Digital World, Ephrel would've originally been teleported to Zenith through Breidablik's power as their chosen. But right before they could be taken, Eitri among other forces from the Digital World all tried to intercept Breidablik at the same time, only to all simultaneously fail to retrieve the weapon, but in the process, heavily impacted Ephrel into an unstable, in-between state of existence. A part of them became a robinsona-esque being dumped into a World of Awakening, where they completely replaced Robin's role and went on to befriend and assist Chrom as their tactician. In this state, Chrom heavily bonded to, and fell in love with this version of Ephrel, whom they initially identified as 'Robin' as a name Chrom gave them in their memory-scrambled state, but would later reveal to him in private their actual name as 'Ephrel' when they had enough time to process and remember. In a desperate attempt to try to go after Ephrel in this state when their physical body became lost and distorted in their home world, and Breidablik itself displaced with them, it completely threw this World of Awakening off the rails of the original destiny laid out for Chrom, ultimately leading to Ephrel gaining forewarning of their fate to betray and kill Chrom, only for Ephrel to die to protect him instead, all while the fate of all Chrom knew were killed in ways neither could prevent, leaving Chrom as the sole survivor of his world.
Their death as a robinsona had the adverse effect of heavily corrupting what remained as a digital "echo" of their state as a robinsona (often dubbed "Mirage Robin" or "Digi-Grima"), which led to a rogue ghost of this robinsona-Ephrel wandering lost, confused, and in an unstable state of constantly seeking Chrom, but not having the "programming" to retain full self-awareness of themself or their surroundings (there's a few times they even technically found Chrom, but were so broken they couldn't realize and process it). Their fragile mental state when forcefully mashing the pieces of both Ephrel's actual persona, yet Robin's scripted fate as Grima's vessel, led to a very unstable "Grima" whose obsession heavily betrays the actual Grima, only wishing to seek Chrom and regain his love and approval again. At the same time, the actual Ephrel was restabilized, and Breidablik resurfaced once more, but in lingering mental corruption from their split displacement, Ephrel, in a psychotic break, completely disregarded their role as summoner or an ally of Zenith in favor of returning home in a near daze, only wishing to seek Chrom out at both lingering remains of the damaged state of digi-Grima as well as their confused, mental exhaustion from the sudden split. In their attempt to try and fail to get back to Chrom, the end result let to catastrophic damage in bursting Breidablik's power, sending the weapon to Chrom and displacing him into Zenith, but ultimately killing Ephrel's actual self in the process, along with one of their digimon partners, Leona (a Grappu Leomon, eventually reborn as Hina, who eventually was fully realized as Leopardmon. She came full circle.). Before Hel could get to them, Freyja, having witnessed Ephrel from the start of their intense wish to reunite with Chrom, stole them instead to force-feed them her nectar just before Ephrel's soul would've given in, causing them instead to be reborn as the dokkalfar Spectabilis and join her for a time as their right hand. Though they were eventually drawn by Robin's deep-seated insecurities and desperate dreams for a normal life with his found-family, this led to a domino effect of being sought out by Robin with Chrom and co, and piecing back together the memories they broke from all their intense stress and trauma, eventually finally reuniting Ephrel and Chrom in full.
As Spectabilis, Ephrel is regarded as the Dokkalfar of Longing Dreams, whose focus are on dreams that are the strongest wishes from the heart that the person whose source of the dream thinks is impossible to achieve, whether or not it truly is. Due to the ambiguous nature of their nightmares, Spectabilis maintained a neutral approach to dreams, rather than be inclined to cause the greatest negativity in a victim like Triandra and Plumeria initially do, being ambiguously inspiring in reminding a subject that the impossibilities are entirely on them and their ideals. Two instances they brought up such is recognizing Robin's impossible wish was to live a normal, peaceful life with his newfound family and lovers after hailing from a background of grief, misery and uncertainty, or Lyon's wish to reconcile with Eirika and Ephraim among their other party, but his deep-seated fear to ever actually face them, despite their expressed interest to speak to him. Despite being dismissed and antagonized by Peony for being a dokkalfar and misinterpreting the nature of their dreams, Spectabilis maintained a neutral opinion of all alfrs, including the ljolsalfar, and they eventually befriended Peony and Mirabilis throughout the events of Book IV. Freyja initially trusted and looked up heavily to Spectabilis and their advice in recognizing their inherent maturity from having been turned into an alfr as an adult (rather than as children like the other alfrs), which wound up deeply upsetting her when Chrom "stole" them from her, only for Spectabilis to be a key part in stopping Freyja's nightmare onslaughts and calming her and Freyr into surrendering. Despite recognizing Freyja's negative aspects and their supports' (especially Chrom's) justifiable misgivings to her in particular, they still hold some regard of respect for her enough to protect her and Freyr's life over the course of Book IV and reconciling with Freyja in her defeat, despite them having a tentative, distant relationship in caretaking for the other alfrs while having otherwise parted ways with the siblings, give or take minor visits. In her absense, Ephrel retained the role they served as an older sibling figure to the alfrs, but especially in helping Triandra and Plumeria better process their past traumas and struggles in transitioning to normal lives again in Askr.
As Ephrel, while they eventually gained the ability to regain their original form as a human through Eclair's stones and Lyon's heavy research in inventing a fae stone with it, the side-effect to this unusual craft led to them still retaining the unusual pigments of their hair color as Spectabilis (minus the floral details), an issue Ephrel never cared enough to fix, and thought it was neat enough to keep. They held a very lax, calm, "going with the flow" attitude that led them also to hold very little interest in reclaiming their role as summoner from under Sparrow, and in fact holding pride in both her and Chrom while engaging more to help them or guide them when needed. Instead of take back Breidablik, they primarily use their weapon, the Flower of Fate, still leftover from their time as Spectabilis that they could still call upon on a whim. When combined with Breidablik, however, it can turn into the unusual, unique digimental of Fate, fulfilling the role that Sparrow was originally exploited and tricked by of the original crest of Grimeal. Even after their time under Freyja, they still regularly use their powers of dreams and sleep-based powers to otherwise support and help others through complicated thought processes and issues, and have otherwise rekindled their partnership with their surviving digimon partners, Angie and Devi while realizing their lost partner Leona was reincarnated into Hina. This assistance with dream-based advice and focus eventually influenced other alfrs, in particular Triandra and Plumeria, who shifted their own powers to more neutral focuses between clarity and love in general. Though their eventual daughter in Lilium (a ljolsalfarian Lucina) eventually yielded another Flower of Fate, their flower and Lilium's are composed of very different flowers, likely sharing the same loan name due to Lilum being naturally born as an alfr, rather than be converted to such by Freyja or Freyr.

Hi Sarah! My friend and I are starting a bookclub (as much as you can with two people who aren't pressed for deadlines) and I was wondering if you have any recommendations? (That is if you have time to rec anything!) We're starting off with Deathless and have Fitzgerald next in line somewhere but I def want to try to expand the genres we read and tbh from years of following you, I trust your judgement
I don’t...like giving recommendations? At least not directly, it seems like too much opportunity for getting it wrong. Everybody has their own tastes, after all, and even the best of friends don’t necessarily vibe with what you vibe with. (I’ve experienced this with multiple friends, so I know what I’m talking about.) Truly, one of the reasons that my whole “I’m going to get back into reading for pleasure!” push has been so successful is that I only bother with books that interest me, and stop reading when they fail to catch my attention.
But I’ve now read at least 60 books in 2020, which is approximately 60 more than I’ve read in the years prior, so I’m happy to share that. Below is my list of recent reads, beginning to end, along with a very short review---I keep this list in the notes app on my phone, so they have to be. Where I’ve talked about a book in a post, I’ve tried to link to it.
Peruse, and if something catches your interest I hope you enjoy!
2020 Reading List
Crazy Rich Asians series, Kevin Kwan (here)
Blackwater, Michael McDowell (here; pulpy horror and southern gothic in one novel; come for the monster but stay for the family drama.)
Fire and Hemlock, Diane Wynne Jones (here; weird and thoughtful, in ways I’m still thinking about)
The Secret History, Donna Tartt
Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn (here; loved it! I can see why people glommed onto it)
Swamplandia!, Karen Russell (unfinished, I could not get past the first paragraph; just....no.)
Rules of Scoundrels series, Sarah MacLean (an enjoyable romp through classic romancelandia, though if you read through 4 back to back you realize that MacLean really only writes 1 type of relationship and 1 type of sexual encounter, though I do appreciate insisting that the hero go down first.)
The Bear and the Nightingale, Katherine Arden (here)
Dread Nation, Justine Ireland (great, put it with Stealing Thunder in terms of fun YA fantasy that makes everything less white and Eurocentric)
The Haunting of Hill House, Shirley Jackson (VERY good. haunting good.)
Tell My Horse, Zora Neale Hurston (I read an interesting critique of Hurston that said she stripped a lot of the radicalism out of black stories - these might be an example, or counterexample. I haven't decided yet.)
The Rose MacGregor Drinking and Admiration Society, T. Kingfisher (fun!)
St. Lucy’s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves, Karen Russell (some of these short stories are wonderful; however, Swamplandia's inspiration is still unreadable, which is wild.)
17776, Jon Bois (made me cry. deeply human. A triumph of internet storytelling)
The Girl with All the Gifts, M. R. Carey (deeply enjoyable. the ending is a bittersweet kick in the teeth, and I really enjoyed the adults' relationships)
The Door in the Hedge and Other Stories, Robin McKinley (enjoyable, but never really resolved into anything.)
The Hero and the Crown, Robin McKinley (fun, but feels very early fantasy - or maybe I've just read too many of the subsequent knock-offs.)
Mrs. Caliban, Rachel Ingalls (weird little pulp novel.)
All Systems Red, Martha Wells (enjoyable, but I don't get the hype. won't be looking into the series unless opportunity arises.)
A People's History of Chicago, Kevin Coval (made me cry. bought a copy. am still thinking about it.)
The Sol Majestic, Ferrett Steinmetz (charming, a sf novel mostly about fine dining)
House in the Cerulean Sea, TJ Klune (immensely enjoyable read, for all it feels like fic with the serial numbers filed off)
The Au Pair, Emma Rous (not bad, but felt like it wanted to be more than it is)
The Night Tiger, Yangsze Choo (preferred this to Ghost Bride; I enjoy a well-crafted mystery novel and this delivered)
The Left Hand of Darkness, Ursula Le Guin (unfinished, I cannot fucking get into Le Guin and should really stop trying)
The Ghost Bride, Yangsze Choo (enjoyable, but not nearly as fun as Ghost Bride - the romance felt very disjointed, and could have used another round of editing)
Temptation's Darling, Johanna Lindsey (pure, unadulterated id in a romance novel, complete with a girl dressing as a boy to avoid detection)
Social Creature, Tara Isabella Burton (a strange, dark psychological portrait; really made a mark even though I can't quite put my finger on why)
The Girl on the Train, Paula Hawkins (slow at first, but picks up halfway through and builds nicely; a whiff of Gone Girl with the staggered perspectives building together)
Stealing Thunder, Alina Boyden (fun Tortall vibes, but set in Mughal India)
The Traitor Baru Cormorant; The Monster Baru Commorant, The Tyrant Baru Cormorant, Seth Dickinson (LOVE this, so much misery, terrible, ecstatic; more here)
This Is How You Lose the Time War, Amal El-Mohtar, Max Gladstone (epistolary love poetry, vicious and lovely; more here)
The Elementals, Michael McDowell
Gideon the Ninth, Tamsyn Muir (didn't like this one as much as I thought I would; narrator's contemporary voice was so jarring against the stylized world and action sequences read like the novelization for a video game; more here)
Finna, Nino Cipri (a fun little romp through interdimensional Ikea, if on the lighter side)
Magic for Liars, Sarah Gailey (engrossing, even if I could see every plot twist coming from a mile away)
Desdemona and the Deep, C. S. E. Cooney (enjoyed the weirdness & the fae bits, but very light fare)
A Blink of the Screen, Terry Pratchett (admittedly just read this for the Discworld bits)
A Memory Called Empire, Arkady Martine (not as good about politics and colonialism as Baru, but still a powerful book about The Empire, and EXTREMELY cool worldbuilding that manages to be wholly alien and yet never heavily expositional)
Blackfish City, Sam J. Miller (see my post)
Last Werewolf, Glen Duncan (didn't finish, got to to first explicit sex scene and couldn't get any further)
Prosper's Demon, KJ Parker (didn't work for me...felt like a short story that wanted to be fleshed out into a novel)
The Secret Garden, Frances Hodgson Burnett
His Majesty's Dragon, Naomi Novik (extremely fun, even for a reader who doesn't much like Napoleonic stories)
Three Parts Dead, Max Gladstone (fun romp - hard to believe that this is the same author as Time War though you can see glimmers of it in the imagery here)
A Scot in the Dark, Sarah MacLean (palette cleanser, she does write a good romance novel even it's basically the same romance novel over and over)
The Resurrectionist, E. B. Hudspeth (borrowed it on a whim one night, kept feeling like there was something I was supposed to /get/ about it, but never did - though I liked the Mutter Museum parallels)
Stories of Your Life and Others, Ted Chiang (he's a better ideas guy than a writer, though Hell Is The Absence of God made my skin prickle all over)
Gods of Jade and Shadow, Silvia Moreno-Garcia (fun, very much a throwback to my YA days of fairytale retellings, though obviously less European)
Four Roads Cross, Max Gladstone (it turns out I was a LOT more fond of Tara than I initially realized - plus this book had a good Pratchett-esque pacing and reliance on characterization)
Get in Trouble, Kelly Link (reading this after the Chiang was instructive - Link is such a better storyteller, better at prioritizing the human over the concept)
Gods Behaving Badly, Marie Phillips
Soulless; Changeless; Blameless, all by Gail Carriger (this series is basically a romance novel with some fantasy plot thrown in for fun; extremely charming and funny)
Black Leopard, Red Wolf, Marlon James (got about 1/3 of the way through and had to wave the white flag; will try again because I like the plot and the worldbuilding; the tone is just so hard to get through)
Pew, Catherine Lacey (a strange book, I'm still thinking about it; a good Southern book, though)
Nuremberg Diary, GM Gilbert (it took me two months to finish, and was worth it)
River of Teeth, Sarah Gailey (I wanted to like this one a lot more than I actually did; would have made a terrific movie but ultimately was not a great novel. Preferred Magic for Liars.)
Mexican Gothic, Silvia Moreno-Garcia (extremely fun, though more trippy than Gods and the plot didn't work as well for me - though it was very original)
The New Voices of Fantasy, Peter S. Beagle (collected anthology, with some favorites I've read before Ursula Vernon's "Jackalope Wives", "Hungry Daughters of Starving Mothers" "The Husband Stitch"; others that were great new finds "Selkie Stories are for Losers" from Sofia Satamar and "A Kiss With Teeth" from Max Gladstone and "The Philosophers" from Adam Ehrlich Sachs)

short or long term m/m rp
Hey there, I’m Kaleton, I’m twenty-six, non-binary (they/them), and I’m looking for an rp that focuses on a m// relationship, or one with non-binary characters. I am primarily interested in original rp content, but there are several fandoms that I would be perfectly willing to write in as well.
A few things before that though:
You need to be at least twenty years old.
I usually don’t like fading to black, unless it’s to avoid repetition and whatnot. If kinks are stuff that matter to you, I’ve used this site to assemble things that I am amiable towards, as well as those I am unwilling to participate in. I prefer characters to be versatile, but having preferences is fine as well.  There’s nothing particularly outside the norm for my ‘limits’ opposed to some other posts here. It’s all pretty standard. Let me know yours, of course, as I am quite willing to accommodate.
Violence and descriptions of it (ex. combat/fight scenes) are cool with me. Hardly mandatory and very situational to the roleplay itself, but please do be comfortable with that. There wouldn’t really ever be any Saw-worthy content, if that is something that would disturb you.
I would like to try to write and receive at least one response per week, but I understand schedules and whatnot might make that hard, but let’s try :)
  Original
Cryptid Hunters. Two characters go hunting something (bigfoot? yeti? Who knows! Could be one we make up). It goes poorly. This would touch into the horror/survival genres as a camping trip between eager nerds hunting cryptids turns into a deadly chase through the wilderness as gaining proof of this creatures existence becomes far less important than escaping its wrath, or its hunger.
Until Dawn Inspired. A group of friends in the wilderness, a psycho, a monster. Could be a killer, a hidebehind, a wendigo, something of that sort. More survival horror.
Small Town, Dark Secrets. Inspired by IT, Stranger Things, Gravity Falls, that sort’ve stuff. Lovecraftian horrors, cults, monsters, conspiracies, government secrets. A group of friends try to Scooby-Doo things, or just survive when they’ve come to know too much. This doesn’t need to be paranormal, but it could be. Likewise it needn’t be set in the 80s. We could always choose a different time period. It would be interesting to have this set in two time periods, allowing us to swap between the two on occasion.
Fantasy. I’m a fantasy nerd. I like high fantasy, low, dark, Conan-esque, urban fantasy - all sorts. An original world with original characters? Sign me up. Let’s make something fun.
Fae. I love faerie shit. A mortal wandering into a hidden world would really appeal to me. As would something like Carnival Row.
  Fandom (OC/OC)
Dragon Age. Probably my favourite franchise. I’d be interested in writing something set during the events of Inquisition or before it. I have an Avvar character I’d like to use sometime, but I am open to plenty of ideas here.
Fire Emblem. Something set between students or staff at Garreg Mach that progresses during the time skip and in the war phase would be fun.
Dishonored. I really enjoy this setting, and I’d like to play something in it.
If you’re interested, please contact me here: [email protected] or on Discord at ChaosMorning#7336

I had a Funky Dream and I got a Concept from it that I have No Idea what I'm gonna do with just yet but I wanna keep it anyway
I call it the Corridor
The Corridor is an Anomalous Space or whatever, idk how to say it without making it sound like a shitty SCP concept which it is Not considering I Dreamed this
The Corridor makes No Fuckin Sense and that’s mostly its deal. It seems to have some level of sentience which could rely in great part on a binary system to Understand Things and I'll explain why in a bit
I call it the Corridor bc while idk if it has any ulterior motives, its purpose seems to solely be to take you from one place to another, even if in Interesting Ways. It achieves this by placing itself between you and your destination and also looking inconspicuous enough that you don’t even Consider not going through it. I’m p sure any door you open could lead to the Corridor instead of where it usually leads, the Corridor exists everywhere and nowhere simultaneously
Okay, the reason the Corridor stuck with me? Bc I witnessed/experienced three instances of ppl going through it (the third one I was actually a part of, the other two I was an observer) and despite it being a Dream, it was shockingly consistent?? Not 100% ofc, but the Corridor has Rules which was made clear to me the first time I watched ppl go through it. These Rules stayed consistent throughout the dream (and sometimes new, also consistent ones were added) and I even tested them. And the Corridor even tries to teach you them in its own, weird as fuck ways
At first glance the Corridor might even look normal if you disregard the fact that the first time I saw ppl go through it they were trying to get to a swimming pool bc the Corridor shows up anywhere it damn wants. The only thing that stands out about it at first is that it looks like it was blueprinted by a drunk iguana
It is not actually a Corridor but yknow. Cool Names. It’s especially fond of having long corridors (hah!), especially especially if they have at least one corner so that you can’t see the end, as well as tiny, tiny rooms that wouldn’t be big enough even for a pantry, and weird lil landing areas where multiple corridors from multiple angles meet/start. It has no windows, beige floor carpet everywhere (as far as I can recall) and light yellow/cream walls with white trimmings and these like. Slightly sunken areas on the wall that repeat periodically?? kinda window-esque??? trying to borrow from baroque while also v typically being a middle class city home thing??? All corridors and rooms have doors leading to them, which are also cream/white coloured and match the style of the walls. Also they have handles, not knobs, bc I'm European. Regular rooms are rare (I only saw a few when I was in the Corridor myself) and from what I've seen, tend to have a clear way right through against the wall, and that + how entirely clean and organised it all is makes it feel more like an IKEA display
Anyway, the Corridor’s deal?
No doors lead where you’d expect. The rooms on either side don’t line up in a way that spatially makes sense – you can have a lil landing area on one side and on the other a corridor that, by all means, should be running right through that landing area, you See it curving there when you look through the door, but there is Nothing. You could open the door to what seems like barely big enough space to step into and find a whole ballroom on the other side
Also, if you let a door close behind you, it most likely won’t open to the same room again from either side
The Very Consistent Rule? If you want something, and ask for it twice (or as later turned out, any even number of times), You Will Have It. It originally was just literal physical objects and whatnot I saw it happen with, but later it turned out it also works for like. Wanting Things To Happen, tho it v much works on tricky fae rules (I went “I want this person to not get lost travelling with us” twice when I was in the Corridor and instead of sticking to the group, that person couldn’t leave the room we found them in bc I mean, it’s not like you can get lost if you don’t go anywhere! I amended the request after that and it was fine)
It’s one of the reasons I feel like the Corridor functions on a binary system – the first request starts the Process, and repeating it confirms it/sets it to a “1”. Saying it three times without stopping/leaving a long enough break resets the Process again. (Other pointers to binary I connected awake, like how doors have two states, open and closed, and that the consciousness of the Corridor might just rely on “there’s either someone in this room/viewing this room or there isn’t”)
If you’re in there with someone else and lose them, you can also ask to have them back the same way you can ask for an item and then it’ll Be There the next time you look at the ground (which also works for food btw, the Corridor isn’t trying to kill you, you just have to understand its logic enough and you’ll be fine). If you lose your friend, you can demand to find them again (or even just scream their name while v scared) and the next time you or they open the door, you’ll find each other again
Which is also the Weird Fuckin Way the Corridor tries to teach you its rules, by separating you from whoever you’re with. Also maybe it thinks it’s fun, fuck if I know. But like. You have to hold tight onto someone to not lose them in the Corridor, bc doors can slam shut with only one person on the other side and the Corridor is Really good at acting inconspicuous. It Will convince you that it’s safe to let go of you friend’s hand for just a second or check out that tiny-looking room all on your own, you’ll be right back!
(And I mean. It’s not like you’ll get Hurt. You just have to find your way back to them)
The first two instances I watched happen were Joseph and Caesar trying to make it through and then also finding Suzi on the way and they lost each other a Lot Easier than you’d expect, sometimes even with all three of them getting separated and they got Really Scared by it. They made it out okay ofc but it was an Experience
Oh, and if you find someone In The Corridor who you didn’t enter with? Better make sure they’re the real deal. Just in case. I met my mother in the first room of the Corridor but then could see Another one of her when I stood in a way that I could see into that room + one farther down a corridor at once. When I properly requested for only my real mother to be there with me, the one in the far room wasn’t there anymore when I looked the next time, while the one I’d met initially remained
Also I don’t have a lot of experience in Entering the Corridor but I feel like. You don’t Have to go in?? Or if you go in and no door has closed behind you yet, you can walk back out. The Corridor won’t be offended. But as soon as a door closes behind you, it won’t open to where you started anymore, and there’s no way other than forward
Well, uhh...wherever forward is
