Rule: Tag 10 people you want to know more about.
Name/Alias: Jim
Hair color: Brown
Zodiac sign: Libra
Height: I think it’s about 168cm which is like 5,5ft, im short
Hobbies: drawing, figure collecting, watching anime & random shit on youtube oh god at some point i legit grew up to be a typical weeb when did this happen
Favorite color: oh geez uh. it’s hard to decide between yellow, pink and light green, i generally have an affinity for colour combinations rather than single colours
Favorite books: //sweats it’s.. been a while. but i really liked the hobbit! otherwise, i mostly read manga nowadays tbh (JoJo, Hero Aca + vigilante, Gokushufudou)
Last song listened to: Still of the Night by Whitesnake, if you don’t count the opening of the last anime I watched today. Well, either that or something by RHCP? One of those.
Last film watched: I believe it was The Joker! My bro and me went to see it last week holy shit it was so good
Things I love: good vibes, inspiring art, comedy, bright and colourful things, upbeat music, positive content, JJBA, Macross 7, MLP:FiM, Undertale, K-On, Tsuritama, my characters, fashion, character design, wild boars, cats, CallMeKevin, Pokemon (spheal!!), working out, DIO, sushi, rice, gnocchi, drinking energy drinks from a wine glass, beef cup ramen, ‘Just What I Needed’ by The Cars, my cat specifically, writing overly long essays about my favourite characters, honestly I could go on but I think i covered most major topics.
What brings me peace: Realizing that I don’t have to wake up yet, getting back to a commission after a break and realizing i got much more done already than i originally assumed, beef cup ramen, Totsugeki Love Heart by Fire Bomber, and this picture:
Tumblr media
yes only these five things in the entire world.
Meaning behind my url: i was once told that Tim Curry as Long John Silver said this to Jim Hawkins in Muppet Treasure Island, thought it was funny bc I like pirates, and decided to claim it as my url. I watched the movie once but haven’t caught the quote so I’m not actually sure if what i was told is true but eh, wouldn’t be the only thing the person who told it to me lied about haha..

I was tagged by @cinlat, thanks! I’ve been gone all day, so just now getting back to this.
Rules:
-Post the rules -Answer questions given by the tagger -Write eleven questions of your own -Tag 11 people –As an added thing, I’m putting my questions under the cut
Alright, now the hard part. My questions:
1: When you are old, what do you think children will ask you to tell stories about?
You ask this like it’s a long time off? :D Mmm, I think some of my versions of events in American history, as taught by a prof in a Freshman history survey. For example, Samuel Adams launching the Boston Tea party (which wasn’t about higher taxes, btw) with free-flowing beer and fiery rhetoric...
2: What is your dream job?
Writer
3: Where do you get your news?
All over the place
4: What movie can you watch over and over without ever getting tired of?
Oh, there are probably too many. Favorites are Hoodwinked, Muppet Treasure Island, Clue, Birdcage...
5: What’s the best / worst practical joke that you’ve played on someone or that was played on you?
I honestly can’t come up with anything right now, sorry!
6: Where are some unusual places you’ve been?
Not sure what qualifies as unusual? Hmm, when I was a young teen, I went to a cave (Cumberland Caverns, I think?) where we camped out in the cave and they told us ghost tales before a tour the next day. I lived in a couple of tiny villages in (then West) Germany. In one of them, we lived at the edge of town, and the local wine fest band would practice for parades past our duplex. I’ve been to the top of Pikes’ Peak in Colorado as a child. I’ve been to Dimebox and to Cut And Shoot Texas (check the map, they exist.) We used to go to the big Tennessee Walking Horse show in Shelbyville, TN in August.
7: What’s the spiciest thing you’ve ever eaten?
I live in Texas, so I’d have to say some chili for a competition. I’ve had Thai food that was almost as fiery, though.
8: How did you get started in fanfiction, whether it’s reading, writing, or drawing?
I’ve written Star Wars fanfic (without knowing it was a “thing”) since just before Return of the Jedi came out. But the first thing I wrote for others to read was a one-shot I wrote for the DA Cullen fandom one weekend while we were all speculating about DAI which was due out. People started joking about what would happen if Cullen was left in charge of the Skyhold nursery, and I spewed out a draft one-shot story, “Cullen’s Charge.” Because the war room needs breadstick fights with toddlers. People seemed to enjoy it, and I kept fooling with it and it eventually got folded into a longfic called Cullen’s Charge...
9: What was your original fandom?  What drew you to it? (This one too)
Probably Star Trek (I watched TOS when it first came out, lol.) But my first online fandom was DAI. Oddly enough, I got sucked into the Cullen fandom, a character I find fascinating, but don’t necessarily adore (as written.)
10: What is your biggest obstacle when it comes to your passion/hobby?
Time.
11: What are your most important rules when going on a date?
Err, dates? I got married almost 35 years ago, and have been divorced for 17+. I’ve dodged all attempts to set me up with dates, etc. so I haven’t been on a date in almost 35 years, so, I dunno?

1, 7, 8, 14, 20, 25 for the mun meme
Another RP Questions For The Mun(always accepting)
1. How’s your day?
Aw, thank you so much for asking! Well, I kinda passed out in my clothes last night around like 2 AM-ish (accidentally!), and then woke up this morning at like 6:15, changed, then went back to bed and woke up at like 8:30, but didn’t get up until like 9 so I’m kind of groggy and a little sleepy, even after I took an unintentional three hour nap. But that’s okay! I only had two classes today and now I’m back to holiday shopping and doing more stuff on here, hopefully, so I’m optimistic! I feel pretty motivated and good at the moment about writing and stuff, actually, let’s hope that doesn’t change.
7. Is there something you wish you could change about your RP style?
SO MUCH. I won’t bore you with a list, so I’ll only list a few things. I wish I took less time to think of things and to get back “into character” for my muses (a lot of the time, especially if it’s a canon muse, I have to physically go back and watch/read stuff to get a feel for their voice again). I also wish I was a lot clearer in trying to convey what I’m trying to say (I’ve noticed in a lot of my OOC posts, especially these long ones, that sometimes I just?? Don’t make sense?? And I’m really worried that carries over to my writing). I also wish I was better at icons and stuff.
8. What Harry Potter house do you and your muse belong to?
Eheh... well, about Harry Potter... I know pretty much nothing about it. My IRL friends are all suuuuper huge Potterheads, but because of hype aversion and me being a colossal wimp as a kid, I never got into it. However, a few of my high school friends forced me to take the Pottermore test, and I got Hufflepuff and I believe Puckwudgie? Or whatever? I’ve taken a few other tests since then and I’ve also gotten Ravenclaw and Gryffindor so who knows.
As for my muses... just going off of what very little I know, and feel free to correct me if I’m doing this wrong/if you disagree: Eli would probably be Ravenclaw, Dom would be Gryffindor or Slytherin (maybe? I have honestly no idea what these are except that Ravenclaw usually is the smart one, Hufflepuff is the happy one, Gryffindor is the brave one?), Will would be Hufflepuff, Penny would be Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, Isabel would be Gryffindor, Sarah would probably be Hufflepuff, Sean would be Gryffindor or Ravenclaw, Daisy would be Gryffindor or maybe Hufflepuff. Holmes would probably be a Ravenclaw and Watson probably would be a Gryffindor or Hufflepuff.
14. Are there other characters you draw inspo. from for your muse?
Yes! Dom and Will probably have the most similarities to other characters, though, so I’ll talk about them. They take a lot of inspiration from Merry and Pippin from The Lord of the Rings, and their names are even an homage to them: Dominic Monaghan played Merry, and Billy Boyd played Will (also, when the “William Sherlock Scott Holmes” thing came out, that made me keep the name because obviously Myc would name a son after Sherlock). I continued the theme, because I needed names when I first created them, with Sean (after Sean Astin, who played Samwise Gamgee), and Elijah (after Elijah Wood, who played Frodo). Sean and Eli aren’t really like Sam and Frodo, though, except maybe in how their relationship is structured (friends who are devoted very much to each other). Dom and Will’s respective voices and behaviors are also heavily inspired by Dominic and Billy’s, so much so that Will’s singing voice is very similar to Billy’s work for Beecake.
20. What Disney movie do you think your muse would like?
Okay so all of them would probably adore Disney movies and have frequent movie nights about them, but, I’ll list their favorites:
Eli likes The Black Cauldron, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Treasure Planet, and The Sword in the Stone.
Dom likes A Goofy Movie, Brother Bear, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and Toy Story, but his favorite is probably Moana.
Will likes The Newsies and Frozen best, but, you were probably expecting that. He also likes Brother Bear, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Finding Nemo, and Up.
Penelope likes Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Mulan.
Isabel likes Mulan, Aladdin, and The Little Mermaid.
Sarah likes The Little Mermaid and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. And Return to Snowy River. And Oliver and Company. And White Fang. And The Lion King. And Air Bud... you’re sensing a theme here...
Sherlock (BBC) likes Fantasia, and, for some tooootally unknown reason, The Great Mouse Detective, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and Muppet Treasure Island.
John (BBC) likes Inside Out and Finding Nemo. He’s not crying, you’re crying.
Sean likes Lilo and Stitch and Wall-E.
Daisy likes Beauty and the Beast and Mulan.
Rosie likes Mulan, Winnie the Pooh, and Tangled.
25. What role play aspect of yours are you proud of?
Oh gee gosh... I don’t really know, honestly, I like my plot ideas I guess? And my headcanons, and I think my OCs themselves are okay.

It’s that time of year again, aren’t you excited? Team oMG is!
Tumblr media
You can find team oMG on Twitter at @C_B_Catalano and @shaunaholyoak
Before we dive into our wishlist *rubs hands together* we’d like to tell you a little about ourselves, and why we can’t wait to pay it forward, and help a fellow writer out.
So, I’m Cass *wave* and this is, oh, possibly my 4th time revising this bio post. Revisions are crucial in all aspects of life, and most definitely in this contest, keeping this in mind, if you’re willing to get down and dirty with us, like kill your darlings –even the one you swore you never would– read on!
This is my first year as a Pitch Wars mentor. I am thrilled to be entering this new world with the most amazing, absolutely awesome, co-mentor Shauna Holyoak! We met a few years ago during another Twitter pitch event, and joined a group of similar contest hopefuls. And thank the stars I did because they are some of the most supportive, caring writers and CPs I’ve ever met in this journey!
PCC for life!
Let me say, (and I cannot stress how important this is), the friends you find in the writing community, especially from events like Pitch Wars, are worth their weight in gold.
Tumblr media
If you manage to make even one friend during Pitch Wars, trust me when I say you are the ultimate winner already. Now, back to business 😉
Meet Shauna:
My name is Shauna Holyoak, and I expend roughly 25% of my energy writing and 50% of my energy resisting the urge to hunt down and consume all the frosted sugar cookies. I made a chart.
Tumblr media
Writing MG is my favorite. My debut novel MY PAPER ROUTE AND OTHER DEADLY THINGS will be published in spring 2019 by Disney-Hyperion. Half of my writing time is currently spent pinching myself about that last part (please don’t turn that into a story problem for me to solve—it will break my brain).
I live in Idaho Falls, Idaho with my game-board designing husband, six of our children and two naughty dogs. Amy Poehler makes me happy, and Leslie Knope makes me happier.
Tumblr media
I grew up on Ramona and Fudge books, which instilled a love for spunky, strong characters (also, see above).
Tumblr media
And then Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry taught me just how powerful middle-grade fiction could be. So I tend toward contemporary, but MG fiction with strong characters and all the feels is ultimately what gets me.
I am so excited to be co-mentoring with Cass (she is AWESOME!) for this year’s Pitch Wars. It was my entry last year to Brooks Benjamin and Caroline Thompson’s team (spoiler alert: I didn’t make it) that got me the feedback I needed to shine up my manuscript and win a slot in #PitchSlam. That led me to the best agent (shout out to CARRIE PESTRITTO!) and then a pinch-worthy two-book deal!
Pitch Wars is a tremendous opportunity, and I’m so grateful and excited to be a part of it. Also, I can’t wait to fight over entries!
Tumblr media
Hi y’all! I’m Cassandra Newbould aka C.B. Catalano, and I cannot wait to read all your words. And fight over entries with Shauna. We will duel to the death for a book we love!
Back in the day I was that girl who enjoyed being sent to their room, because hey! extra reading time! Anything from Little Women, to the Black Stallion. If I could hold it, I was reading it. My lust for all the words continued on through teenage-hood. That’s when I fell in love with all things fantasy, and would dive head-first into the lands of The Tortall Universe, Shannara, and Darkover to name a few. *Sometimes* when my sis and bff would sneak out to go party I’d stay home to read instead. They’d laugh, but there was nothing better than curling up with a good book, a good blanket, and a good dog in my opinion.
Tumblr media
*curling up with Jake Gyllenhaal wouldn’t be too shabby either 😉 *
When I had my kiddos, I would spend the evenings telling them the most outrageous stories I could make up in the hopes it would send them to sleep. Eventually, as they grew, they encouraged me to write them down and so my journey as a writer began.
Last year I entered another amazing Twitter pitch event called #DVpit and that is where I met my magnificent and stellar agent, Suzie Townsend of New Leaf Literary & Media inc.
She fell in love with my MG retelling of Treasure Island: THE MISADVENTURES OF JEM HAWKINS: staring Kick-butt hacker girls, and lady pirates, and all the adventure a girl could want.
Before that, I interned for a NY literary agency for 8 months. Also, I know the ways of middle graders well. My middle son is in the 8th grade this year and my daughter made it through without too many battle wounds a few years ago 🙂
Did I mention I love to write and critique queries? Yeah, I know. But I do, I swear, and I’m happy to say my #NoQS mentee went on to get an agent 🙂 GOOO VALARIE!! so, if you have any questions about how I work as a mentor ask @ValBodden on Twitter.
My husband, a computer engineer who has run the gamut: from MySpace and creating its Open Social platform to autonomous cars for Ford, and I met as teenagers, and had our daughter when I was 22. We have been married 17 years, moved over 21 times together in over 7 states, and have 3 lovely children, 2 awesome cats, and 2 Muppet puppies, otherwise known as Newfypoos.
Seriously, Muppets.
Tumblr media
When I’m not writing, I’m probably playing with my children, playing poker (I want to be a professional poker player when I grow up) cooking with the hubs, painting, drawing, and/or drinking wine. I love everything Baz Luhrmann (he can seriously do no wrong) and am a die-hard *end of world genre* movie buff. For TV, I adore Outlander, Black Sails, Shameless and any and every cooking/baking show known to man. Also, I cannot stop watching the tiny houses shows. I’d love to, but I can’t bring myself to.
Now to the exciting part. DUN  DUN DUNNNN
What we’re looking for in a nutshell.
Middle Grade.
Give us all the feels, all of them! While Shauna leans more towards contemporary and I, fantasy we both agree we’re down for either, and welcome them with open arms –with a few minor exceptions–
If your manuscript contains any of the following we’re probably not the best mentors for you:
Younger MG, sorry but upper MG is our jam
Sports
Horror
Hard Sci-fi
Novels in verse
Now, while we aren’t the best for these stories, as we wouldn’t be able to do them the justice they deserve, we are certain you and your amazing manuscript will be able to find another mentor who will help you achieve that next level of fantastic, and we wish you the best of luck!
So what else are we looking for? Well, if any of your books have the feel of these below send them our way. Please. Pretty please with a query on top?
A Snicker of Magic
The Girl Who Drank The Moon
A Wrinkle In Time
Monstrous
Counting By Sevens
The Thing About Jellyfish
When You Reach Me
Mockingbird
Holes
Percy Jackson
Wonder
Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events
The Gauntlet
Rules For Thieves
We joyously welcome diverse and own voices stories with open arms. *grabby hands*
Give us your girl mcs that aren’t afraid of what the world thinks of them. Both likable and unlikable. Give us Hermione Grangers stuck at sea, or Katniss with an obsession for oil painting. Give us your MG Inej Gahfas, Nina Zeniks, (and we can’t forget your Kaz Brekkers), all tied up in the ultimate group heist, if you please. Give us your STEM stories (please, pretty please?) Sibling stories or complex girl friendship stories are a quick way to our hearts! 🙂
We’re down for quiet stories that tug at your heart, or action packed fantasies where the world-building blows your mind. Re-tellings set in a modern world or contemporary dramas thrown back in time. Make us laugh. Or cry. Just make us feel like we never want to put your story down!
However, having said all that, if you have a story that doesn’t fit anything we’ve said above and you feel like you want us anyway, send your ms our way. We both love surprises and can’t wait to find out what we end up falling in love with!
What we can bring to the table for you:
Helping you find a killer voice, pointing out areas that could use work without taking over your story, tackling pacing issues, building complex and believable characters, DIALOGUE! and attention to detail, or lack thereof.
*warning* If you aren’t able to attack your ms with an open mind and willingness to rip it apart and build it back even stronger, perhaps we aren’t the right mentors for you. We will never demand that something be changed, it’s your story after all and you know it best, but you entered Pitch Wars for a reason and hopefully we can help you polish your shiny jewel even farther than it is now.
Good luck fellow writers, may the odds be ever in your favor!
Have you been sitting here wondering where you can find out more about Shauna? Well, here is the link to Shauna’s blog
Shauna’s amazingly awesome blog
Shout out to Brenda Drake for this opportunity for all of us, may your reign be long and fruitful!
