I'm forever grateful for this fandom
I've been meaning to post something like this for a while. I debated doing it during my next follower milestone (which is very close) but today just felt right.
I've been in a funky place these last few weeks due to a lot of things going on, and this time of year is always a struggle for me. I'm feeling better now, putting aside how today makes me feel, and some things have happened that are going to continue to make things improve slowly but surely.
Today marks twelve years since my mom's death. She died of colon cancer, which the diagnosis for came on rather suddenly and traumatically (that's a story in itself) and she fought for two years before finally succumbing to it on August 14, 2011. I was only 15 when it happened, sitting across the room from her when she took her last breath.
She and I were very close. I was a surprise child, born about 20 years after my siblings so I was raised as an only child. My mom was everything to me since my dad took on the more stereotypical gender role of working all day. (I was close with my dad but not nearly like I was with my mom.) My mom was the glue that held our family together and her getting sick and then ultimately passing really took its toll on my family, and me.
My mom was the one that introduced me to Star Wars. She loved the movies. She went and saw the original trilogy when they came out in theaters, and she instilled that love into my siblings and I. I still remember the day when she finally let me watch The Phantom Menace. I think it sticks out to me because if you had known her, you wouldn't have thought Star Wars would be something she was into. We went and saw the two remaining prequel trilogy movies when they came out in theaters and even the Clone Wars movie (the last one to come out before she got sick) and it was just so special that we shared this thing as a family that we all loved.
I didn't watch Star Wars for ten years after she died.
I rebuked anything and everything that had to do with Star Wars. Every new movie, every new show that came out, all I could think was how much she would have loved it (even the sequel trilogy.) I tried so hard to hate Star Wars because every time I saw anything related to it, it just brought up all those horrible feelings. The pain and grief of losing my mom and in a way I felt like I was betraying her because she'll never get to watch Star Wars again.
I don't really know what changed my mind. I honestly couldn't tell you what switched, what caused me to risk dipping my toe back into the world of Star Wars. Maybe it was all the Baby Yoda memes.
I decided early last year that I was going to watch The Mandalorian. It felt like a safe place to start since there were no emotions attached to it like other things. Also, I've been in love with Pedro since Game of Thrones so that also helped. Watching it, it didn't really feel like Star Wars, but at the same time, it reignited the feelings I used to get watching it with my mom. It took me a long time to watch the first two seasons (the only two that were out a that time) but I'm glad I did it. I went back after I finished those and rewatched the prequels and decided I was going to watch the Clone Wars show. I never really got into it when it was on TV, since I was reaching that stage of pubescence where I was trying to distance myself from anything that felt too childish.
Well, long story short, here I am now. The Mandalorian helped me ease myself back into the world of Star Wars, and the Clone Wars dunked me in head first.
I still think about it, I still think about her when I watch things. It's less painful now and more bittersweet. There's a sense of melancholy underneath everything that just kind of sits there. It never goes away, but sometimes it gets buried enough I don't feel it.
I certainly don't regret coming back to Star Wars. I certainly don't regret getting involved in the fandom side of things. When I decided to watch Star Wars again, I was sort of flailing between fandoms. That awkward spot when you leave one and have to find something else to occupy your every waking (and sleeping) moment. I had just left Marvel due to a toxic friendship (that's a whole other thing in itself) and had briefly jumped into Kpop (I still love Kpop but yikes at the fandom side.) I needed something and Star Wars decided to be that thing.
I didn't plan on getting so involved with the clones. I originally started this blog as a Mando blog (hence the name) and my first Star Wars fics were Mando fics. A lot of them have never seen the light of day and probably won't and that's okay. I hadn't realized, even when I first started getting into the fandom, that there was such a community centered around the clones. I remember when the Clone Wars movie came out, I desperately searched for any fics related to the clones, and there was nothing. So to return fourteen years after searching to find an entire fandom based around the clones...it was a bit unbelievable.
I'm so glad I found this place and eventually became active within it. Y'all have helped me more than I can ever say. I went from debating quitting writing entirely to enjoying it again. I'm writing like I did seven/eight years ago. It no longer feels forced, like I'm forcing myself to write so I don't lose my ability. I like what I'm writing. I'm proud of it. Y'all have helped me get over the impostor syndrome, the hatred I used to have for my writing. I can look at my works and feel confident in them because I know that they're good and I believe that they're good. That confidence and positivity has translated into other areas of my life. I still struggle sometimes, I still question myself, but it's never to the end of "I should quit because this is utter garbage" anymore. (When I say my writing is trash now, it's coming from a joking place, not a serious one.)
A lot of that growth has come from me and the work I've been doing, but you all have had a hand in it. I'm so grateful for all of you, from the silent readers to the dedicated commenters. You've helped me in so many ways. I'm not going anywhere, no matter how bad things get. I may have to take breaks but I'll always come back here because I have a reason to. You're stuck with me for the long haul.
I'm so glad I found my love of Star Wars again. I'm so glad I decided to engage in this fandom space. You're all so special to me and I love each and every one of you and I am so thankful for you. I can only continue to repay you with my writing and my unhinged thots.

So from a comercial perspective, do you think either of the two "likely"(it would not shock me if the Rey movie geta canned down the road like so many other SW projects) star wars movies are likely to be successes?
No doubt the sequel to rise of skywalker is Dead on arrival, but I think the mandalorian movie might be able to.
Honestly i was shocked when Ahsoka(which i wasn't a particular big fan of) wasn't a smash hit with viewers just looking at the numbers. I guess apathy really has set in at this point.
But what do you, a guy who actually likes disney star wars think? Can the mandalorian movie beat the overall apathy, or will it be a bomb?
Well, let's all note that I'm terrible at predicting commercial success. I wouldn't have expected that keeping Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield out of the advertising would have resulted in the highest grossing Spider-Man movie of all time.
But I think both of these Star Wars movies have the chance of succeeding.
However, I think the Rey movie is a big gamble. The character and actress were well-received initially, and I honestly don't have a solid idea of how much of a failure 'Rise of Skywalker' was as far as general audiences go. Yeah, it didn't make the money that was expected of it and less than the previous sequel movies, but it still was an overall success financially. And the prequels demonstrated the phenomenon where the movies are accepted blindly by kids who grow up to tout them as artistic tour de forces. By the time this movie comes out, the 12-year-olds who ate up the loudness of RoS might be college students looking to reclaim something from their childhood.
On the other hand, RoS has become the face of Disney's hubris (even though 'Solo: ASWS' is more emblematic of the bland, sloppily written stuff we're getting these days and it came out first) and the cultural narrative around it casts it as an inarguable disaster. (I agree with that narrative, as a reminder. I think it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen.) And even before it's come out, this new Rey movie is landing in the crosshairs of the bigot-fueled culture wars stuff that's dominating youtube and utterly exhausting the sane half of the fandom. It's possible most people who might otherwise be enthusiastic will just not want to think about the movie with that kind of cloud around it.
So there's potential there for great gain, but also potential for great loss. Perhaps it will average out, a middling success that no one talks about afterward, the Star Wars equivalent of Ant-Man 2.
But there's no doubt in my mind that the Mando movie is going to be a big hit unless something goes very wrong (although I doubt that Grogu's name will still be in the final version of the title). People love Baby Yoda. They always have and they always will. It doesn't matter that Mando Season 3 got a mixed reaction; the main dynamic of the title characters is still beloved, the series provides a perfect formula for a blockbuster movie (specifically: pick a Kurosawa movie and remake it in space -- my vote is for 'Yojimbo'/'A Fistful of Dollars,' but 'The Hidden Fortress' would be a hilarious pick), and Pedro Pascal is currently pretty popular. This movie is as close to a guaranteed hit as is possible in movie-making.
My overall perspective is that people aren't tired of or apathetic to Star Wars. They're just bored of the typical Disney+ formula of a weakly-scripted miniseries that requires 200 hours of TV-watching homework in order to understand it and is mainly relying on a mix of nostalgia and good-for-TV special effects to sell itself. That reaction is hitting Marvel as well- and entertainment in general, given the performance of the entire movie industry this year. The initial success of 'The Mandalorian' is proof of that: when it was an episodic Space Western with a cute sidekick, people loved it, but when it tried to do real narrative stuff and positioned itself as a partial sequel to Clone Wars and Rebels, people cooled on it. And its big successful start was amidst both Solo and RoS underwhelming, so it bucked that trend very easily.
Basically, I see people proving themselves as discerning. They have their tastes and peculiarities, but it's becoming less and less about the brand. Even good actor performances aren't enough to save them if the actor has nothing solid to do.
I just wish I knew what brought this on!
Because 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' is a weakly-scripted mess of a movie that coasts on brand-recognition and gives great actors nothing much to do besides play the hits. And people loved that!
Basically, I might just know nothing.
It would be nice if these movies are good, though.

Apparently this is an unpopular opinion but I really enjoyed the Mando s3 finale (spoilers under the cut).
The one thing that annoyed me (at first) was how Gideon just suddenly randomly destroyed the frickin Darksaber. Like. Bro. Bo's literally been after this thing for twenty frickin years, it's been the plot point of the entire season, she FINALLY has it and you're really gonna just squash it. But it occurred to me that that could actually have a symbolic purpose; the Mandalorians united not because Bo had the Darksaber, but because they had a common goal: to retake Mandalore. Now that they've done that, I think they've realized that they can continue to be a united people under her leadership because she is, objectively, the best leader they could have, and not because of some antique sword. I think it symbolizes the start of a new era for Mandalorians, one not bound by tradition, but by their desire to be a united people again. And honestly, that's actually some beautiful story-telling. Yes, the Darksaber has immense importance to the people of Mandalore, but now that they've moved past their hatred for each other in an effort to rebuild their home, a sword that was used solely to prevent the people from killing each other out of anger is no longer necessary, and frankly would only be holding them back. You could compare it to the old samurai of Japan way back in ye olden days (obviously they weren't having internal feuding but they were trapped in their old ways by tradition much like the Mandalorians).
I was very pleased that Pedro's acting went back to being great, and that the episode was more Mando + Baby Yoda-centric, and I'm very happy that we're going back to it being about just them next season. With everything they talked about in the finale, I feel like it gave the seemingly odd decisions they made in the rest of the season context and closure, and it honestly massively improved my opinion of the season. Apparently that's a vastly unpopular opinion, but I'm used to being in the minority when it comes to preferences in Star Wars.
A couple of the popular negative opinions people have had that I did not agree with were that the way Bo got the Darksaber back made no sense, and that because she got it back Mando had zero reason to stick around with Bo. They clearly explained why it made sense for her to get the Darksaber in episode 6, and while it was on a technicality, what other way would she have gotten it? It didn't make any sense for Mando to keep it, and Bo really needed it, and they never would have fought each other for it. If they had, it would have been very unbelievable and very out-of-character for both of them. Bo may have been ambitious and desperate to get it back, but she's not heartless and Mando is her friend. She wouldn't fight the guy to the death just for the sword. And in reality, it makes perfect sense that she got the saber from the creature who got it from Din. It all checks out. Other than that, yeah, there might be no "literary reason" for Mando to have stayed with her, but as he himself explained, she saved his neck TWICE and is his friend, so he stayed out of loyalty. Helping her simply because he wants to do what he can makes perfect sense. Sometimes, believe it or not, people can do things out of the goodness of their heart simply because they want to help. That and the fact that he wanted Mandalore to be retaken just as much as she did made it make perfect sense.
At the end of the day, Star Wars fans are some of the pickiest people on Earth and all seem incapable of just enjoying a show because it's fun. It's Star Wars. It's meant to be a good time with fun characters and cool fight scenes; it doesn't need to be a timeless cinematic masterpiece with writing so captivating it's used as a cornerstone of literature for hundreds of years to come.
All in all, after watching the finale, I've changed my mind and decided that I did really enjoy this season. Episode 6 was a train wreck, yes, but the rest of the season was fun and I think necessary so that Mandalore and its people could finally get the closure and happy ending they desperately, DESPERATELY needed.
And, of course, I nearly frickin cried when Mando said he wanted to formally adopt Baby Yoda. My boys are legally a family now and I may cry.
Great season, better than everyone said it was, and y'all gotta take your expectations down a notch. It had a few bumps, but explained and worked through them a HECK of a lot better than a lot of things have. I enjoyed it, and I can like what I wanna like.
I may have forgotten something here but this is all I got for now lol
Peace out.

hey, so i know you like reylo but i was curious about what other star wars characters you like? what’s your opinion on stuff like the mandalorian?
I'll be honest, I'm probably not the best person to ask this question to. I obviously got balls deep into the reylo fandom and The Last Jedi is still one of my favorite movies of all time but I most certainty didn't start out as a Star Wars fan and after The Rise of Skywalker...
Well let's just say I'm not clambering for more Star Wars content.
I didn't like the Star Wars prequels to the point they put me off of any other Star Wars content for what I assumed was going to be the rest of my life until my now boyfriend begged, pleaded, and bribed me with mortal delights to get me to even consider watching The Force Awakens with him. If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't even be here now.
Bet he regrets that now.
The mandolorian is fine. It annoys me when I go into a store and see Star Wars memorabilia but the only thing they have is baby yoda. No Finn, Rose, Rey, Poe, Ben, Fuck they won't even have Luke, Leia, Han, or Vader. Nothing else besides mandolorian and baby fucking yoda. Like I don't know if you remember but when the mandolorian first came out there was Zero Merch for the show to the point the fans had to step up to fill the void, but now that Disney has finally caught up to demand there is an overflow nobody asked for. I really wish Disney would stop putting the mandolorian story into shows I have zero fucking desire to watch. Bobafett was a horrible show. I didn't care about him in the original movie and the show did nothing to supplement. Robot AI Luke is a nightmare that I never want to see again. I don't care about obi wan enough to watch it do to my original dislike of the prequel movies so I didn't. My boyfriend has been trying to get me to watch andor but again, I know he dies at the end of his journey so my interest or care is almost zero.
There are no happy endings in this universe and it makes me care less about it.
I'll take the world me and the fandom creates over anything Disney has been putting out any fucking day.

I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER WITH THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 3 FINALE
I was just a *tiny* bit disappointed that nothing came out of Mando getting tied up and looking pretty on his knees (I WANTED TO SEE HIM INJURED >:))) ), but it was so cute how Grogu came to save his daddy LOL. The bacta spray part was adorable I love the call back to past episodes like that it's adorable.
ALSO I LOVED HOW BO WAS FLYING LIKE A BADASS AND TURNED ON THE DARKSABER LIKE THAT IT WAS SO UNNECESSARY AND DRAMATIC I LOVED IT LMFAO
Armorer Bonking People Supremacy
oh also when Mr. Mando said something about "this could get messy" or whatever he said it was something along the lines of that I had to stop myself from oohing and awing and moaning because of the way he said "messy". thank you
ALSO HOW THE HELL DID EARMUFF GIDEON BREAK THE DARKSABER THINGY????
AIDJDKDJJD
When I see Din getting thrown around I automatically scream and cry and wave my hands around and yell. I always need to be prepared like "ok Mando may get thrown" because I need to like jump through the screen and save him or some crap idk
GROGUUUU USING HIS BABY GOOGOO GAGA POWER TO SAVE DIN AND BO FROM THAT BIG ASS SHIP CRASH?? AMAZING. THAT MOMENT WAS BEAUTIFUL LOOK AT THIS YOU GUYS
youtube
LIKE WHAT 😭
Also his little sit at the end omg holds gently baby baby baby booboo tired from using his googoo gaga powers
It's always so bizzare to see Grogu like jumping around and stuff though 💀 like OKKK WELL I THINK WE OVERDID THAT JUST A BIT LMFAO I forgot baby can do parkour. Everytime I see Grogu doing parkour all I can think of is that parkour scene from The Office LOL
I do think Earmuff Gideon "died" too easily there's no way he's dead. Also what if that wasn't him and it was just one of his clones or something. And even if it wasn't a clone that's way too easy of a death. His scream at that part tho man that was insane I LOVED IT
ALSO MANDO FINALLY ADOPTED BABY YODA. LIKE. IT'S OFFICIAL AT LAST I kind of thought it already was a thing but like now it's a THING like they are ACTUALLY family now
Also also also I have been thinking for a good like six months now where are Grogu's parents. Like I know they're probably dead or won't come into the show or plot or anything but it's worth thinking about. And Order 66 was a while ago man so like how long was Grogu just chilling around in his lil space pod perambulator. whO ARE YOUR PARENTS KID
ALSO MY BOY IG-11 COMING BACK I FREAKING EXPLODED MAN 😭 like DUDE AT LAST I MISSED YOU
It was *so* satisfying to see Din now having a home base. Not a ship, a *home.* We haven't TRULY seen him relax EVER in this show. I thought it was so sweet that he had a place where he could put his feet up for once and just watch his kid/apprentice play. That really was the thing that got me, finally seeing such a strong, stoic character finally able to relax, sit back, and enjoy himself for a while. What better way to do so than by putting your feet up and watching your kid play? It's such a good feeling to see one of my favorite characters at last having a moment of true peace.
And that leaves it open for more adventures, no crazy cliff hanger that makes us wait impatiently for like a year or two, just relaxation and peace for once, just thinking that Din and Grogu are somewhere out there chilling :')
So they get to chill out until the next season which is a good feeling I cried my face off seeing the two of them relaxing I KNOW I KEEP SAYING "oh they're relaxing they're relaxing finally peace omg relaxation" BUT IT'S TRUE. DIN'S ALWAYS FIGHTING HIS ASS OFF BRO HE DESERVES A BREAK
So yeah I could NOT be happier with the ending of this season. The season OVERALL was pretty boring, so I'm disapponted about that, but the last two episodes were *chef's kiss*
also mythosaur or however you spell it. WAKE YO ASS UP BROOOOOO

The fact you remember where I'm from and that is spring here is quite cute ^^ I've been seeing so much about fall on social media, but my vibes are different right now, I'm on flower and pretty colors vibes 🌸💐 I hope you reunite with your Sweet Bill soon, you sound so lovely together!!
And about the video, I wish it was me and Seonghwa 🥺 it would be adorable! This Wednesday is national holiday in Brazil, so, as I don't have work or uni, I'm thinking on finally watching Star Wars. What do you think? If you know a lot about the franchise, could you point me to the right direction, please? :D
Ooh, Star Wars advice. That is going to vary from fan to fan. More often than anything useful you are going to get a ramble from the person about what works for them and the place the movies found them in their life. But hey, it is my page so I can ramble. It is a deep world with lots of television shows and books too, but my knowledge is limited to the movies, and I haven't even seen all of them yet. I like the well known characters R2-D2 and C-3PO from my childhood and the more recent BB-8.
The short answer is if you just want to try one to see if you might like more the original 1977 movie that started the franchise. It is a fun adventure called Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Alternately, the 2015 Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens is another good one if you want a more modern looking movie.
PC Magazine has a nice roundup of the movies and several suggested orders to see them. It is also fine to just watch one and decide trying once was enough Star Wars in your life. Alternately, the recent streaming shows like The Mandalorian might be more interesting than the movies so there are many ways to sample Star Wars. That's on my viewing list one day since I love the character people were calling Baby Yoda until he got a name in the story.
Two other things that may be of interest upfront, you might enjoy the adult reader insert stories of Tenelkadjowrites about Star Wars. (She is really the one to ask about Star Wars, even her username is from the wider Star Wars world!) I already liked her Seonghwa writing so seeing more work in a different fandom was fun too.
Also, my love of K-pop costuming has me smiling when I see somebody dressed in clothes that could pass for something from Star Wars. Yoongi from BTS had a photo shoot where he could have stepped off the set of the 1977 movie and Seonghwa of course keeps making me think Star Wars with his flowing outfits and swords.
On to the more personal answer with pictures (including my underwear!) and a video of the worst entry in the franchise but one of my favorites anyway!
A little too young for the first movie, I did have some of the action figures growing up and loved playing Star Wars with my friends. I was the right age to appreciate one of the most hated elements of Star Wars- the sort-of-cute teddy bearish Ewoks from the 1983 movie Return of the Jedi. I even bought Ewok Underoos recently but can only show the package I saved because I did not follow the no-heat in the dryer instructions and the iron-on design peeled right off my shirt.
Tumblr media
I love BB-8 the most and have a lot of stuff with that character including a pillow, backpack, and plate.
Tumblr media
So, I like the cute stuff and my love of Star Wars is shown in stuffed animals too. Here are Max Rebo, C-3PO, R2-D2, and a jawa hanging out at the end of the hallway at my house.
Tumblr media
And I like the designs of the storm trooper costumes too so have one of those toys in my room along with a second BB-8 backpack and a matching luggage out of shot.
Tumblr media
And last, the worst entry in the Star Wars World- the children’s Ewok movie The Battle For Endor. I was eleven when it came out and liked it. Now I can look at the trailer below and see the fern filled redwood forests I am familiar with now that I live in the San Francisco bay area. Bill says we even have some of those fern types in the backyard but he is insistent it is not because he likes Ewoks.
youtube
So my final answer is there are many ways to enjoy Star Wars including just the toys or taking one look and realizing it might not be your thing and all are perfectly reasonable ways to feel about the franchise. If you like it, there is always more to see, but it is okay if it is just a movie to you. For me it is mostly the show where some favorite characters came from.

infodumping a bunch of thoughts because I have too many in my head:
-reva is gonna me more complex than she appears. 99% positive she was one of the kids in the order 66 scene in the beginning. 99.9. I do hear peoples' concerns about how black people are treated by this franchise (especially after how they treated finn) and the concerns over casting a dark skinned woman as a villain, but I think I'm going to let this story play out before making a judgment call- I just have a gut feeling she's going to end up a much more complicated character by the end of this. -god, prequels fans finally get to win after being told for years and years and years how bad the movies were and how we weren't real fans for liking them as much if not more than the originals and enduring decades of nostalgia pandering to the original trilogy fans while our nostalgia is ignored and derided finally. finally we get a moment. we get to have our nostalgia for the trilogy we grew up with. sure it's pandering to that quite a lot, but we never get pandered to like this. feels good feels right. -obi wan in this show and luke in the last jedi have very similar vibes and I'm here for it. except honestly with obi wan? It makes more sense. it feels more earned. I liked luke's arc in TLJ, I think it made him an interesting inversion of what obi wan and yoda were to him, but this? this works infinitely better. with luke we didn't get to see the good times that preceded ben's fall, so the knowledge of what happened and how it affects luke doesn't hit as hard. but with obi wan? we saw him and anakin grow together. we saw them as mentor and student, as brothers, as the closest of friends. and if you watched the clone wars you got even more of that, you watched them go through the entire war together, so it just hits different. watching this man be so broken and crushed by his grief feels exactly as earned as it should. that this man let go of the jedi code in his isolation feels infinitely more natural than it did for luke. and again, I still liked luke's arc in TLJ. -a whole show about dealing with trauma and grief is the shit I'm here for. we all know I eat angst like pancakes, plus this is being billed as mostly a character study and so far it's delivering. I don't care how contrived or forced the plot may get, that doesn't matter so much- this isn't selling itself to me as a plot driven show- it's about character here. -I actually saw, months ago, a leak that suggested this show would be about obi wan and leia. and I didn't honestly believe it, especially after the trailers dropped- so I didn't let myself want it too much. but now that I know that leak was actually correct? oh my god I wanted it so much. leia gets so little attention and so little time from this saga. she took a backseat the entire original trilogy and most of the sequels. so let her take center stage for once, let her be the important skywalker for a change. luke has his story, leia deserves to be in the spotlight for one goddamn minute. let her be the one with the stronger connection to obi wan, let her be her father's daughter in the way luke has always been his father's son. let leia matter, let her be important to the skywalker legacy in a way the movies never let her be. I love luke but damn, you could almost forget leia is just as much anakin's child the way the movies treated her. justice for leia. -I know people are inevitably going to compare this plot to the mandalorian and see it as derivative of the relationship between mando and baby yoda, but honestly I do not care. there are similarities and it could be argued that disney is trying to capitalize on mandalorian's success but ehhhhh......I feel like any kenobi show was always gonna feature one or both of the kids considering that was like. his entire purpose after revenge of the sith. so. -obi wan realizing anakin was alive hit me like a ton of bricks to the chest because for one, I honestly thought he knew? and two, ewan's acting was just phenomenal. man deserves an emmy for that scene alone I'm not joking. that delivery of "anakin" just. ouch.
-very excited to see hayden as anakin again. I know his performance in the prequels wasn't always great, but that was still his role and he deserves some recognition for it. and him and ewan together again is gonna hit me in that nostalgic spot that most people seem to feel for the originals. and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Mandalorian S3 Finale
I got nothing. My medium lukewarm takes are below.
I think I lost brain cells watching it. I try and not take this series (Star Wars that is) too seriously because it's fucking dumb space magic and wizards with the trappings of sci-fi. So you just have to go into it with the overly logical expectations of hard sci-fi rules just switched off and enjoy the spectacle.
There is a reason Star Wars fans and Trekkies have sworn an unofficial blood feud over which of their fandoms is far superior for decades.
But I could not turn my brain off enough to get over how dumb that episode was. I legit spent half the episode laughing and telling myself how dumb everything was. Some of it was so dumb it was funny, some was so dumb it was infuriating and a lot of it was just so dumb I feel like my IQ has dropped from watching it.
I cannot convey how I'm feeling right now beyond that. I didn't hate it, I don't think? I sure as fuck did not love it and honestly this whole season has been a glorious fever dream of dumb fuckery.
Why is Grogu suddenly DIN Grogu with this random reversal of surname/given name?? It can't be a fucking weird Death Qatch quirk because we had PAZ VIZSLA and Vizsla is a canon clan name not to mention NO OTHER MANDALORIAN HAS EVER HAD THEIR NAME WRITTEN IN THAT ORDER. Fucks sake the Armorer even calls Bo Lady Kryze.
Did the writers forget their own main character's name??????
I'm so mad and so pressed and I can't not laugh because otherwise, I am going to flip tables.
EDIT: I just had a galaxy brain realization. I think Felony & Co. are deliberately doing this, knowing that we were so pissed off when he named baby Yoda Grogu that the Internet lost its mind. And now he was like “hold my beer. I’m gonna piss them off even more” just to watch the world burn. Because the internet is going to collectively lose their shit and talk about this for days and that’s going to drive up ratings even more. Or the more cynical take that we’ll be so pissed about this we don’t talk about the other dumb shit in this episode
Fucking hell, please let season 4 go back to their season 1 roots of having tired space dad cart his frog kid around collecting bounties.
Felony and his writing crew just need to stop trying to make huge spectacles of this show and strip it back down to what made it so popular in the first place.
I could go on a rant about the dumb shit from this episode like how a Mando jet pack and a dream apparently turns Axe into a fucking surface to air missile capable of clearing atmo and going to OUTER SPACE. Or how unbalanced Bo with one singular operating rocket would send her careening right into a wall because there's nothing to balance out the force of the thrust. Or the entire jousting in fucking mid-air bullshit which objectively looked cool and was so fucking dumb. And that's just me ranting on jetpacks alone.
I'm not going to do that because I know it will be picked apart ad nauseam by far more talented people than me and honestly I'll just end up getting more angry over the shitshow I just witnessed.
I legit am so dumb from watching this I immediately gaslit myself wondering if I'd titled this season 3 or season 4 because I could not for the life of me even remember how many seasons I have watched of this show at this point.

I think I’m just about done with Mandalorian Season 3.
Tumblr media
So, where to start…
The Mandalorian was a breath of fresh air after nearly suffocating from the appalling torment which was Rise of Skywalker, lol. As a Star Wars fan since I was a little kid and a major fan of Clone Wars, I FLIPPED OUT when I heard of a series about Mandalorians. (I created two Mandalorian OCs and went to Comic Con in them) Also, flipping DAVE FILONI, the man behind Clone Wars and Jon Favreau, who created Iron Man which kicked off the MCU, would be working on the project. It looked like Star Wars would return and do no wrong!
People around the world waited and waited and waited. Then, on November 12, 2019 aka, the year the world ended, the first episode released on Disney Plus and…
BOY OH BOY, WAS IT GOOD! The story, character design of the Mandalorian or Din Djarin, the world building, I could go on! The series was incredible! Along with this, the cuteness of Baby Yoda made viewers freak every time he came on screen. Din Djarin, who always wore a helmet, carried so much emotion. A mando bounty hunter who swore to the creed and a little green child together across the galaxy during a quiet time in the Star Wars universe?! (Getting Last of Us vibes! Oh, wait…) I was IN LOVE with the show and maybe Din Djarin. But, let’s not worry about that cuz this show was great and we couldn’t wait for more!
Fast forward a bit and the 1st season had ended. It brought excitement and hope back into Star Wars. Just like everyone else, I was on board and ready to see what else the House of Mouse would give to us. About a year later, Season 2 was announced and fans were ready! It was awesome! SPOILERS: We got to see the live action debuts of Bo Katan, Ashoka, Luke SKYWALKER and Boba Fett! A lot of cameos, but still an awesome season! Can’t wait for season 3!
Buckle up and get ready.
As I was watching the Book of Book Fett, a spinoff series developing around that one guy who had like 3 lines from Empire Strikes Back, I was shocked to see Din Djarin show up in episode 6! BOBF was like a train about to fall off the rails when someone at Disney decided to bring the Mandalorian in to save the series. Don’t get me wrong, it was great seeing Din again, but something about him that made me feel like he would either turn the show into an awesome series or he would take it over. The episode was good; as well as the last two. I was happy that we finally got Cad Bane (my fav clone wars character) in the show! The finale was okay. (BANE FREAKING DIED, YALL.) Overall, Din Djarin in BOBF just felt like lazy writing, like they had to get the show back on track so they decided to have Pedro Pascal show up. The whole Darksaber plot didn’t really made a whole lot of sense, but they would touch up on that in season 3.
So, Season 3 rolls around and there’s a lot to talk about.
AN: I’ll just be talking about the series as a whole instead of what happened each episode.
To start off, the second season teased a major succession critical between Din Djarin and Bo Katan Kryze. See, Din Djarin got the Darksaber, a weapon that could unite the Mandalorians as well as making the welder Ruler of Mandalore. Bo Katan wanted the Darksaber for her own reasons. Quoting from the show, “In order for her the weld the Darksaber again, she would need to defeat you in combat.” So Bo Katan would need to kill Din Djarin or take the Darksaber in order to become Queen. Sounds like Daenarys. Yeah, Disney barely touched on that. The first episode kinda did, but that idea flew out the window with these past flew episodes. This season also felt all over the place. For example, we head to Mandalore for a mission, then we travel to Courscant for another plot with that one doctor from season 1. Then we head back to our main story line, only to find Bo Katan TEAMING UP with Din Djarin. The man who she despises now teaming up with him after the whole Darksaber incident. It went from a possible crisis of rulers to some random stuff happening each episode. Chapter 21 was great! Everything we wanted, but they just had to head right back to square A. This new episode didn’t do much. We had Jack Black, Lizzo and Christoper Loyd. Look, I like Jack Black, but I didn’t really care for his character this episode. Also, the ending made me LIVID. Why would Bo Katan just TAKE THE DARKSABER after Din sweet-talked the clan she was just fighting?
Overall, this season should have touched more on the crisis of Bo Katan and Din Djarin instead of going all over the place. I understand what they were trying to do, but the execution just came out like a mixed up jigsaw puzzle. Keep the main story line, but connect the dots. The thing I noticed about season 1 and 2 was that each place Din and Baby Yoda (Grogu) when to was for a reason. For example, in Season 2, Din needed to get Grogu to a Jedi, so he tried to find one of his kind who could take him, which was Bo Katan. Bo Katan tells Din to take Grogu to Ashoka, which she tells him to go to a planet where he can make a connection with another Jedi, which is where he meets Boba Fett, whose there for his armour that Din was given in the first episode. Season 3 didn’t have a direct storyline. It tried to mix in a whole bunch of different places without any context or explanation on why our characters need to go there.
This leads me to the end of this post. We still have two episodes left. Hopefully, Dave, Jon and all the other people working behind the scenes can fix their mistakes, at least for season 4. With the Ashoka series coming out, hopefully that will inspire them to get back on track and made their fans happy!
Thank you for reading! #thisistheway

NASA Spotlight: Astronaut Mike Hopkins
Michael S. Hopkins was selected by NASA as an astronaut in 2009. The Missouri native is currently the Crew-1 mission commander for NASA’s next SpaceX launch to the International Space Station on Nov. 14, 2020. Hopkin’s Crew-1 mission will mark the first-ever crew rotation flight of a U.S. commercial spacecraft with astronauts on board, and it secures the U.S.’s ability to launch humans into space from American soil once again.  Previously, Hopkins was member of the Expedition 37/38 crew and has logged 166 days in space. During his stay aboard the station, he conducted two spacewalks totaling 12 hours and 58 minutes to change out a degraded pump module. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois and a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering.
He took some time from being a NASA astronaut to answer questions about his life and career! Enjoy:
What do you hope people think about when you launch?
I hope people are thinking about the fact that we’re starting a new era in human spaceflight. We’re re-opening human launch capability to U.S. soil again, but it’s not just that. We’re opening low-Earth orbit and the International Space Station with commercial companies. It’s a lot different than what we’ve done in the past. I hope people realize this isn’t just another launch – this is something a lot bigger. Hopefully it’s setting the stage, one of those first steps to getting us to the Moon and on to Mars.

You served in the U.S. Air Force as a flight test engineer. What does that entail?
First off, just like being an astronaut, it involves a lot of training when you first get started. I went to the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School and spent a year in training and just learning how to be a flight test engineer. It was one of the most challenging years I’ve ever had, but also one of the more rewarding years. What it means afterwards is, you are basically testing new vehicles or new systems that are going on aircraft. You are testing them before they get handed over to the operational fleet and squadrons. You want to make sure that these capabilities are safe, and that they meet requirements. As a flight test engineer, I would help design the test. I would then get the opportunity to go and fly and execute the test and collect the data, then do the analysis, then write the final reports and give those conclusions on whether this particular vehicle or system was ready to go.
What is one piece of life advice you wish somebody had told you when you were younger?
A common theme for me is to just have patience. Enjoy the ride along the way. I think I tend to be pretty high intensity on things and looking back, I think things happen when they’re supposed to happen, and sometimes that doesn’t necessarily agree with when you think it should happen. So for me, someone saying, “Just be patient Mike, it’s all going to happen when it’s supposed to,” would be really good advice.
Tumblr media
Is there a particular science experiment you enjoyed working on the most while aboard the space station?
There’s a lot of experiments I had the opportunity to participate in, but the ones in particular I liked were ones where I got to interact directly with the folks that designed the experiment. One thing I enjoyed was a fluid experiment called Capillary Flow Experiment, or CFE. I got to work directly with the principal investigators on the ground as I executed that experiment. What made it nice was getting to hear their excitement as you were letting them know what was happening in real time and getting to hear their voices as they got excited about the results. It’s just a lot of fun.

Space is a risky business. Why do it?
I think most of us when we think about whatever it is we do, we don’t think of it in those terms. Space is risky, yes, but there’s a lot of other risky jobs out there. Whether it’s in the military, farming, jobs that involve heavy machinery or dangerous equipment… there’s all kinds of jobs that entail risk. Why do it? You do it because it appeals to you. You do it because it’s what gets you excited. It just feels right. We all have to go through a point in our lives where we figure out what we want to do and what we want to be. Sometimes we have to make decisions based on factors that maybe wouldn’t lead you down that choice if you had everything that you wanted, but in this particular case for me, it’s exactly where I want to be. From a risk standpoint, I don’t think of it in those terms.
Tumblr media
Can you describe your crew mate Soichi Noguchi in one sentence?
There are many facets to Soichi Noguchi. I’m thinking about the movie Shrek. He has many layers! He’s very talented. He’s very well-thought. He’s very funny. He’s very caring. He’s very sensitive to other people’s needs and desires. He’s a dedicated family man. I could go on and on and on… so maybe like an onion – full of layers!
Tumblr media
Star Trek or Star Wars?
I love them both. But can I say Firefly? There’s a TV series out there called Firefly. It lasted one season – kind of a space cowboy-type show. They did have a movie, Serenity, that was made as well. But anyway, I love both Star Wars and Star Trek. We’ve really enjoyed The Mandalorian. I mean who doesn’t love Baby Yoda right? It’s all fun.
How many times did you apply to be an astronaut? Did you learn anything on your last attempt?
I tried four times over the course of 13 years. My first three attempts, I didn’t even have references checked or interviews or anything. Remember what we talked about earlier, about patience? For my fourth attempt, the fact is, it happened when it was supposed to happen. I didn’t realize it at the time. I would have loved to have been picked on my first attempt like anybody would think, but at the same time, because I didn’t get picked right away, my family had some amazing experiences throughout my Air Force career. That includes living in Canada, living overseas in Italy, and having an opportunity to work at the Pentagon. All of those helped shape me and grow my experience in ways that I think helped me be a better astronaut.
Can you share your favorite photo or video that you took in space?
One of my favorite pictures was a picture inside the station at night when all of the lights were out. You can see the glow of all of the little LEDs and computers and things that stay on even when you turn off the overhead lights. You see this glow on station. It’s really one of my favorite times because the picture doesn’t capture it all. I wish you could hear it as well. I like to think of the station in some sense as being alive. It’s at that time of night when everybody else is in their crew quarters in bed and the lights are out that you feel it. You feel the rhythm, you feel the heartbeat of the station, you see it in the glow of those lights – that heartbeat is what’s keeping you alive while you’re up there. That picture goes a small way of trying to capture that, but I think it’s a special time from up there.
Tumblr media
What personal items did you decide to pack for launch and why?
My wedding bands. I’m also taking up pilot wings for my son. He wants to be a pilot so if he succeeds with that, I’ll be able to give him his pilot wings. Last time, I took one of the Purple Hearts of a very close friend. He was a Marine in World War II who earned it after his service in the Pacific.

There’s a lot of things I loved about ep6 of tbobf it truly was an incredible episode but I have to talk about how crushed I am about Luke and Ahsoka. They are two of my all time favorite Star Wars characters and I was so disappointed at the hypocrisy and restriction they placed on grogu and his attachments. Coming from both of them it just made me feel livid. Like really?? Ahsoka isn’t even a Jedi and Luke abandoned his own training to save his friends/father.
Even worse was Luke placing the armor Din gifted him, and yodas lightsaber in front of Grogu and telling him he had to make a life altering decision and could only choose one. First of all, how dare you. Din made the armor to protect grogu because he loves him and was even willing to leave it behind without seeing Grogu, trusting that it would get to him. Why has it been made into some dramatic “if you choose the indestructible armor your dad gifted you you’re giving into attachment and you’re out of here!!!!” It’s like “he’s not a CHRISTIAN!!!!” But with Jedi.
Second he is a baby! Is Luke forgetting he’s a baby? A baby with a very very long life ahead of him. He will outlive both Luke, and Din, and basically every other individual he forms a bond with. It’s normal for children to form attachments and he’s going to be a child for a while! Not only that but he’s a child with a lifetime of struggles and trauma, do we not think it beneficial that he has a consistent steady adult around who he loves and trusts? Losing people is inevitable and expecting him to never form any attachments in his entire life is unrealistic. It just seems smarter for Luke teach him how to manage his attachments in a healthy way rather than try to sever them all.
And finally, are we really going to undo the entire plot of the mandalorian season 2 in one episode? Was Din’s whole purpose and mission not to return Grogu to his kind? Did he not place Grogu on the seeing stone and allow him to choose if he wanted to become a Jedi? And did Grogu not then reach out to Luke? We already did this why is Luke making him choose again? Grogu obviously wants to learn to use the force but not at the expense of losing his family. Regardless of what he chooses he looses. He’s also so much safer with Luke than he was with Din, Din literally just wants visitation rights like come on is he really asking for that much??
I just hope grogu chooses the armor and while Luke is returning him to Din he ends up becoming Din’s darksaber instructor and has some eye opening experiences and a character arc that wakes him the fuck up. (There’s some wishful thinking for you lol) I mean the origin of the darksaber is a Mandalorian who was also a jedi, it’s possible for grogu to find that middle ground.
Really I was just devastated seeing Din within viewing distance of Grogu and being told his presence was detrimental. Are we just going to ignore the fact that Ahsoka considered Anakin her brother and was there literally visiting her nephew??? That Luke would absolutely have stayed close to his father if he had the chance?? That Luke most definitely keeps in touch, and probably has visits from Leia and Han?? Disney made me hear Din say “I came all this way, he’s right there” and I’ll never emotionally recover.
Basically I grew up watching Luke Skywalker and fell in love with his kindness, compassion, and pure lighthearted optimism. If he spends the entire series being a lofty, exalted Jedi type who stands to the side and rattles off random Jedi proverbs while monologuing about attachments (or in any way resembles his characterization in The Last Jedi) I’m going to scream. Luke is not perfect nor has he had enough training to make him a confident master, he’s just doing his best with the weight that’s been placed on him and I need to see his more human moments like we got to see in the original Star Wars movies. I need them to be gentle with his character and not fuck this up pleeease. Luke is creating a new Jedi academy, and therefore has all the power for what that means moving foreword. Let’s not repeat past mistakes. There’s so much potential for them to do amazing things with his character and I hope they take advantage of that.

Chapter 13: The Jedi - Thoughts
That opening freaked me out I don’t know why, the planet just seemed so creepy
Literally when the title sequence played I was like dIN COME BACK I’M SCARED
The baby using the force to get the sphere please I—my heart was not ready for the call back to the sphere
Din’s dad voice just gets more and more dad-like as we go on
The amount of stress I was under when Din was walking into the town I cannot begin to express
That spear of beskar... Din wielding it... it will be quite the phenomon
“Batu” WITH NO FOOD AROUND????
WHEN AHSOKA FINALLY JUMPED OUT ONTO DIN I WAS LIKE HELLO OH GOSH
^but that was a pretty sick little fight, also the fact Din can just block lightsabers with his beskar arms? Bye that’s sick
“AHSOKA TANO!!!!!!!” SEROTONIN
The baby was like “oop—”
DIN NERVOUSLY PACING WHEN AHSOKA WAS TALKING TO THE BABY DIN NERVOUSLY PACING WHEN AHSOKA WAS TALKING TO THE BABY DIN NERVOUSLY PACING—
GROGU!!!!! GROGU!!!!! GROGU!!!!!!!!!!!
Din hearing his son’s name for the first time I’m—I’m gonna cry it’s gonna happen
WHO HID AND TOOK GROGU FROM THE TEMPLE BECAUSE WE SURELY DARN KNOW IT WASN’T YODA OR OBI-WAN
Wait does that mean Grogu watched his friends die? NO—
^but I instantly knew that Din felt even more connected to Grogu because that story sounds even more like what happened to Din as a child bye
Din was being such a dad about training please
“He’s too stubborn” “not him, you” LIKE FATHER LIKE SON I AM SAAAAAAAYING
DIN WAS SO PROUD OF GROGU FOR LIFTING THE SPHERE I’M LITERALLY GONNA SCREAM
^for a second I thought they were gonna Force-connect and I was like no way nO WAY
“A Mandalorian and a Jedi... they’ll never see it coming” THE POWER OF THIS DUO HELLO
I know they were working together but when Ahsoka offering the pauldron with the signet I felt a pit in my stomach
DIN GETTING TO HELP THE VILLAGERS!!!!
That duel was such women power though like yeSSSS
^but now we know that beskar spear can withhold lightsabers and most likely the Darksaber... keep that in mind
THRAWN IS STILL ALIVE I KNEW IT I KNEW HE WAS SOMEWHERE OUT HERE
WHEN DIN SAID HE LEFT GROGU IN THE SHIP I LITERALLY JUST THRASHED AROUND SCREAMING NO NO NO NO NO BECAUSE I WAS CONVINCED HE GOT ‘NAPPED OR THAT SOMEONE WOULD JUMP OUT
Nope instead I got a very sad “It’s time to say goodbye” along with DIN JUST SITTING THERE CUDDLING HIS SON FOR A LONG MOMENT I IMMEDIATELY TEARED UP THAT WAS HORRIBLE
They’re going to the Jedi teMPLE OH BOY OH BOY
If Moff Gideon intercepts them on the way I swear—
DIN AND GROGU DJARIN

Just thought about the SHIELD gang watching The Mandalorian / The Book of Boba Fett and them all just reeling about Fennec Shand looking like May.
I like to imagine a group chat and confirmed Star Wars Nerd Bobbi Morse (they got back in touch post finale, tell me I'm wrong. Fight me.) , bringing it all to their attention.
Coulson says he can see it.
Mack complaining he has an agency to run and can't watch everything they produce (but then confirming that he watched it with Flint and Yo-yo and it's a spitting image)
Daisy fangirling with Bobbi, sending a video of her showing Daniel and Kora for the first time, Kora half-yelping when Fennec was revealed and Daniel's Jaw dropping (she watched ahead when Bobbi mentioned it and waited for their reactions)
Jemma and Fitz talking about uncanny it is, and then a picture of Alya dressed as Baby Yoda distracts the group momentarily. (I've seen fanart for this, which I can't find now , but it's incredible)
Somewhere in the Coulson Academy late after class, May smirks at her phone, shaking her head at her ridiculous surrogate family.

The series about Boba Fett came out really, let's say, not very well, I adore Boba, but this is really the same character about whom it was not worth making a whole series, Boba is good in his sudden appearance in the universe, his series in The Mandalorian is the best after the finale with Luke , according to ratings! This is a man of mystery that you look at and think *God, what's on his mind, he's really unpredictable and cruel*, and in the end we get a very soft and even a little funny pensioner. They shot only episodes 5 and 6, and even then, not with their plot, but just *god what nostalgia, Ahsoka is talking about a family friend 😭 Luke teaches Grogu like Yoda 😭 you look like a father 😭 poor father misses his son 😭 and so on .. .
The last episode once again shows us that Disney and his directors still have their any hobby left, slandering Luke from head to toe, showing us that this person has not learned anything and makes the same mistakes as his teachers. And in order for the series not to lose its ratings at all * they wanted the best duet of son and father to be together again, on ... choke! , and the fact that Luke did not bother to see Grogu off himself can be explained very simply ... Disney is greedy, to the point of madness, everything is very simple! Everything is very banal to be honest and it makes me very sad.
Although there is still something funny, our Skywalker boys are really terrible fathers, both of them!
One cuts off his son's hand, the other sends the tiny creature of one across the universe, perhaps to the most dangerous planet, even with R2))
Luke and Anakin/Vader are two sides of the same coin, and this is probably the exact truth! Although Luke will be a little smarter than his father.
I'm just gonna say it, and this may be an unpopular opinion:
Din should've NEVER been brought into the show.
This isn't just me being a Luke-fan, but for the sake of the story of Boba Fett. Things weren't amazing with the story but there were a lot of strong points (really the big crime was the treatment of the Tuskens and getting the teeny-bop-ranger gang) that made things compelling. The moment Din came in, it was over. He was the main focus. The story just lost control.
Episode 5 should've been the first episode of season 3, hands down. We should've never left Boba or Tatooine. We should've gotten Cobb earlier, Boba reaching out to Cobb and there be nods to Din and his story, and get Cad Bane at this time as well. A message could've been sent to Din and maybe he showed up at this final episode...but honestly, he shouldn't have been involved. This needed away from the plot of the Mandalorian.
It is through the shoehorning of Din that, oh, well now we need to see fan-favorite Grogu! And if we see Grogu, well, gotta see Luke...and then everything was far too rushed. I got an image of our Luke...but because they had to rush back to the story of Boba (last episode of all times) they just say "oh yeah, Luke just sent him off alone without coming to help".
Now, I'v been around the block with adoring certain characters and then poor writing comes in to brush them to the side and not really allow their depth or growth or self to shine...or sometimes just being used to cause problems that make no sense (Hello my beloved Haruno Sakura from Naruto) so, I got a bit thick skin with it. It pains me to ultimate agony they did my baby Luke like this (Especially with all the build up) but I know i have fanfiction and some parts of Tumblr, but may not get on the dinluke tag for a bit as I have seen people bashing Luke and using the tag to platform other pairings.
I am still gonna watch Season 3 and still hella gonna be into dinluke and Luke Skywalker. I am just so curious why so many at Lucasfilm (not saying it is Dave and/or Jon as I don't know their affection on Luke--i know a strange amount of people at Lucasfilm do not like Luke or the OT)
So, I'm just gonna write a little fix-it fic, go back to watching the Mandalorian, picture my beloved Luke, and just enjoy time with my fellow dinluke/luke staning friends and just do as the Jedi do and let it go.
But, you hear me Dave & Jon, you come for my boy again and I will unleash the wrath of an anxious filled-grad student and I WILL write a Luke novel. I will write one hell of a Luke novel and I will fight tooth and nail to get it published and make people adore Luke. You hear me?? I will start working on it now if necessary.
