Hello to my beloved followers and mutuals and anyone who just sees this post lol hi anywaY I have gotten a few asks recently just chatting about hankcon and I haven't answered them because I'll compile a general answer in this one post <3 Okay SO basically I agree with what everyone is saying and I'll reiterate it here and mix in my own opinion:

People's tastes/opinions are different. It's strange to see people attack and block each other over a fictional pairing, like, I've been on voice call with a Tumblr mate of mine who ships hankcon and we didn't explode. I am on the dad-son end of things, and guess what. She talked to me about all the things she likes about hankcon and I was happy that she was happy. It's fun, ok. It's FUN. FUN. When people argue "oh this isn't even canon" like. Dad-son and hankcon aren't canon, but we get to enjoy them in different ways and in different universes. Which is epic. It doesn't matter what side you're on- harassing someone for having a different opinion to you is not nice. And you're missing out on making friends with others.

Did you know that I follow someone who is self-labelled anti-reed900 despite me being a reed900 shipper? Guess what fuckers. I like a mix of opinions on my dash because I get to experience 5 GUM. This person doesn't post reed900 at all and I haven't seen this person harass others either. And it's all boiled down to taste. Did you know I disliked hankcon when I first got here? I had the tag blocked, but I didn't block others for having fun over in the other corner. Now I'm like, super neutral about it and even reblog it. You know rk1k? I used to dislike that too. Now I ship it. rip me. anyway. I was into simarkus and now I'm not! But I'm still going to do the simarkus arc in Encryption hella justice. So ultimately, I guess my opinion is who cares bro!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our interests change!! (Like the anon in my asks who said they liked hankcon and now don't anymore!)

End note which is a personal opinion: Posting "I don't like X" is not being hateful. Posting "Anyone who likes X is a [redacted] and Y is superior/canon/the right way" is not cool.

Edit: ur so hot and sexy if you follow me and our opinions clash about anything ever

Ok here me out:

So there's the story of the Illiad. All that happens yadda yadda yadda cue Odysseus and his crew trying to get back to Ithaca. Stuff happens, some men die, some more stuff happens, some get turned into pigs, more stuff happens, the gods kill a whole lot of guys, until like normal it's just Odysseus left. Except when he finally gets back to Ithaca he finds out Penelope's stalling of the suitors via unraveling her work at night didn't work so well and she had to set the bow-and-ax challenge a few years early.

So Odysseus rolls up fully prepared to fight the new "king of Ithaca" and guess who he finds ruling with Penelope as queen consort (or whatever the right title is for queen but not because she's married to the king, im not sure)?

Telemachus.

He'd gone looking for Odysseus while the suitors were still around but when nobody had heard anything about him in years figured there was a decent chance he'd died at sea. So he went back to Ithaca, strung his fathers bow, and after some practice shot through the 12 axes. The kid who learned his father's tricks to get to know some aspect of the man who was away for 20 years did something only his dad had done while knowing it meant he was starting to replace him. I think both Telemachus and Penelope would have been grieving the thought of Odysseus never coming back (while also getting some help and fighting off the enraged suitors when Telemachus succeeds, something that would have been Odysseus' job if Ithaca hadn't been forced to move on).

But yeah: What if Penelope hadn't been able to stall as long as she did and Telemachus had grown to fill his father's ghost while he was gone?

Random memory popped up. I'm reflecting on choices I made to quit a job for greater pay some decade ago.

The gist of it is, i worked really hard at a company that didn't pay well in hopes to get promoted and, of course, work towards getting more pay. Well, after the yearly review my manager told me I wouldn't be promoted despite the recognized hard work (it was legitimately amazing - I won't get into it) my manager basically just told me I was on the right path. After that huge let down, the rest of the review I stayed quiet and didn't say anything beyond a "mm hm" as some form acknowledgement that said manager ended a sentence.

Anyway, I leisurely looked for another job and got an offer that this company I worked for just couldn't match.

I think back to this moment a lot actually. Because the funny thing is, if I DID get promoted there, I'd still be working so SO hard for still garbage pay.

I have imaginary conversations with my old manager. Like there's a scenario in my head where I bump into him at some store and I'll be like, "haaa could you IMAGINE if you actually promoted me? Could you imagine that? Think about the amount of work I could have done for you for like just a small bump up from my original garbage pay you were giving me. I would have been THANKFUL! Idiot me, wooooo working 12 hours a day or sometimes working into the AM hours to get you results in a day rather than weeks because of what I implemented for you. ISN'T THAT SO FUNNY! Remember when you gave me 5 large projects to work on? Remember I was the only one on the team that had more than 2 because of how efficient I was? Remember that? Imagine the number of projects you could have dumped MORE on me after I streamline my application I made, you know, the one you said wouldn't work originally, the one you're NOW dependent on and have trouble maintaining because no one else was familiar with data driven design - the thing I had to teach myself from nothing.

"but you know, thanks. In general, thanks. You still suck, but if you hadn't turned me down, I wouldn't have been offered almost twice the salary you were giving me to leave. I wouldn't have been given more resources to work with to eventually get the job I have now, which, by the way, is sooo much better. Not to mention I still recall the look on your face when I told you I was quitting. That look that matched the purest "oh shit" expression I had ever seen. I think there was even a twinge of anger if I recall. It was like you had a leash on me and then it just... broke free; and I just ran and ran.

"I remember grinning back. It was satisfying. I remember the "oh shit" faces my coworkers gave me, but theirs were different. Theirs were more, 'who's going to get this to work if you're gone,' type of 'oh shit'. And while I liked my coworkers, the best I could give them was a big hardy shrug.

"So yeah, great catching up."

#just a cathartic vent of a memory i guess #I think i just needed to share it #and if you're ever in a job where you think you're working much more than the pay you're getting #time to look for a better one #i will admit #i got so so so lucky #this was back in the days where everyone still worked in offices #and i found a remote job #and have been that way ever since.
