here's tavaris' overtly complicated relationship chart with all companions and a long ass draft explaining each that will probably be edited every week lmao

part 1 of the rambles under the cut

also feedback welcomed, as i have a lot to learn about all the characters still :)

WYLL: this is hard for tavaris to acknowledge, but he feels very small next to Wyll when they first meet. at first wyll's hero status awakens a lot of insecurities in him during their first weeks together, cause i doubt Wyll would approve of most of Tav's rogueish, thief-like strategies, and that makes Tav feel judged and kinda embarrassed since, at his core, he does respect and even admire heroes like Wyll. his own career as a thief wasnt so much of a choice, more like one of the very few options he was given. he's always loved stories about heroes and dashing princes, still keeps a few in his bag, and he knows Wyll is a good man. an amazing man, when he finds out how much he gave up of his life just for the sake of others. thats the first moment his misguided anger falters, sees Wyll for who he truly is, beyond the hero tales, and he doesn't really blame wyll for having to keep this a secret (he has his own) but tavaris is full of complexes he hasn't worked through, and he kinda refuses to give up on that anger even after this revelation. because he grew up as an urchin, feeling 'lesser', the more tav finds out about wyll's upbringing, despite his humble begginings and not being born into it, the worse those insecurities get this animosity is obviously one-sided, though, as wyll does disapprove of some of tav's actions, and he doesn't fully trust him at first, but in his case all of it is mostly justified, as tav is quick to anger the first days after the crash and wyll can tell tav doesn't have full control over his emotions, which concerns him a lot more than any petty thievery ever would (honestly he doesn't care that much, tavaris just thinks it's part of the reason why Wyll disagrees so often with his approaches). in lesser words, tav feels volatile to wyll. but, and this is why it's onesided, Wyll knows Tav has ultimately noble intentions for the grove, and gets to see Tav putting his neck out there in exchange of veeery little coin, so he can tell there's something greater under the nonchalant rogue impression tav might put up at first at some point Tav kinda snaps at Wyll for no reason, just all of his shit building up under pressure until he simply snaps at nothing. after some awkwardness, they both sit down and they talk. they talk a lot and tav opens up about his warped perceptions and slowly comes to realize how unfairly he's treated wyll, of all people. his apology is clumsy, as he still needs to truly understand where all that shame comes from, but it's enough to put them back on a better path. wyll on his part admits that this adventure might require more than one trick to get through it and that he's willing to look to the side sometimes so tavaris can do his thing, long as he knows what he's he's doing, their goals dont falter and no innocent person gets harmed in the process it never truly grows into an equal understanding between them, however? as tavaris thinks a lot more of wyll than wyll does of him, even coming to develop a little bit of a puppy crush, after they mend things up. and it's not reciprocated for no other reason than just, lack of closeness, ig. but tavaris tells wyll about how he'd sneak on roofs to watch dancing lessons through strangers' windows, so wyll teaches tav to dance as you would at fancy balls and masquerades. they make jokes about their matching eye trauma. tavaris finds out that the blade has a muuuch better, spicier sense of humour than he first gave him credit for, too, being one of the few companions to often join in tavaris and karlach's jokeful banters, astarion's, even. and ultimately, they're both sworn to protect each other, a promise they keep long after the nightmare is over

SHADOWHEART: at first tavaris isn't all that patient with her secrecy, mostly due to his own heightened paranoia after the accident triggered a lot of shit he had buried DEEP. shadowheart obviously doesn't appreciate his response when she settles these boundaries, so the relationship is tense at first once Shadowheart starts opening up he chills a bit, though he doesn't keep to himself that it all sounds a lil fucked up to him. doesn't give a shit about worship, doesn't know enough to care just, wow, does it have to be like that? shadowheart even if obviously defensive still appreciates the fact he's not rejecting her company after knowing the truth, just being forthright about his views on the matter, and obviously (from her pov at that point, naively) concerned about her wellbeing with tavaris being an impulsive gremlin sometimes and shadowheart being the one proper healer of the group, they spend a lot of time in the same group when exploring, and that time spent together and the trust that tav has to put on her when she has to heal him makes them grow closer faster than most other companions. shadowheart also finds tavaris hilarious once they get past the initial awkwardness (laughing both with AND at him lmao) so much so that she starts finding him a bit endearing they make it a habit to hang out at night sometimes, sharing a glass of wine together, as they both seem to be ppl that drink for escape or recreation, and tav also starts opening up to her about his own shit and regrets, cause after what she's been through and what she considers 'normal', he doubts she'd judge, or make a big deal about it, which makes it easier for him to open up. this closeness, something they're both not really used to, leads to a very awkward and clumsy makeout session one of those nights that they both instantly regret. if anything it helps them confirm there's no deeper feelings between them, neither an attraction deeper than friendly intimacy, just a very comfortable and accepting presence for each other. they still sit on each other's laps and are very cool with closeness and intimate gestures during those nights together, as even though they're both a bit stunted when it comes to emotions, it just feels safe and they both have seen a lot of each other by now to really make a big deal out of it. it's a clearly defined dynamic, to put it down shortly after that there's a bump or two along the way, especially during shadowheart's quest, before she makes the big decision, cause tav is not one to keep his opinions to himself neither filter them, and he has a lot to say while exploring the temple and about shadowheart's intensified faith in the face of the trial. in tavaris' run, she ultimately gives up shar. tavaris is there for her while she processes what happened and what is next, as best as he knows how, though he's not in a good spot himself at that point of the story (and the fact he failts to communicate this doesnt help the matter) but it's just bumps like that, what you can expect from a close, caring relationship between people that are still finding their purpose and facing so much at once. they remain very good friends after everything is over.

MINTHARA: unfortunately, cause i'd LOVE to explore her character, they're enemies and little else, though i can promise you, if we could save the grove AND keep minthara alive without bugging the fuck out of the game, tavaris would give her a second chance

LAE'ZEL: the relationship with lae'zel is something i'm still working at, cause there's a lot about her i have yet to see and read, but baSICALLY- at first it starts mostly neutral. tavaris doesn't know enough about gythyanki to feel like he can judge what still sounds to him like more blind faith, but that also means he'll often ask her to explain things about her culture, always curious to know more about the world (used to be a biiiig reader), which, even if it doesn't look like it, makes lae'zel feel less isolated. he also appreciates that she's not judgy about his rogue-ish approach to things sometimes, but he does feel a bit on edge around her (too cool with cold murder for his taste). lae'zel doesn't feel much towards tavaris beyond 'we share a problem and we can be usefulf or each other' though sure, sometimes, he can be tolerable- but she finds him too 'undisciplined', not so much judging his actions or reactions, but the lack of planning or finesse to them during a very risky, urgent situation. however those first weeks when tavaris is constantly on edge after the crash (not unlike her) he acts a little more aggresively, right, has a shorter fuse, but rather than just resorting to violence or intimidation, all those years using persuasion and deception to survive dull his edges enough so that it almost seems like he knows what he's doing lmao (though to his credit, he's better at reading people than he believes to be). that plus not being afraid to get his hands dirty in battle appeal to lae'zel enough to want a taste, just to let off some steam, and she lets him know as directly as she's known for. tavaris issss still working out some stuff about himself. he truly believes he wants this, it's not his first casual hookup. but part of him is tired of that. part of him craves something intimate, personal. he had it once, or so he thought, and the way he lost it left a huge mark in him. on him. while he obviously consents to these encounters, and has his fun with it, wants it to be enough for him, there's an emptiness he never quite manages to get rid of. after the crash, a lot of this stuff is brought to the surface. he tries to enjoy himself that night with lae'zel (though even he is caught off guard by the intensity djfsifdj) but something feels off the entire time. when lae'zel offers a second, he initially is down for it, but as soon as it starts he feels off enough that he has to cut it short. explains it to lae'zel, best he can word it. lae'zel throws some of her own personal brand of advice, which is basically 'if this doesnt work for you then find something that does and don't bring yourself to harm like an aimless fool', something like that, i have yet to grasp her voice. at this point lae'zel doesn't care enough for it to truly affect her, it's his loss. but it also means this doesn't affect their relationship for the worst, either. and it helps start an important personal growth for tavaris. as their adventure continues, and as tavaris grows along with the other companions and his personal quests, experiences he starts to realize are twisted mirrors of his own trauma, he also starts to appreciate just how much lae'zel is putting at risk to help them, not just herself. and to see exactly the brand of bullshit she's being fed. how terrified she is. their relationship isn't warm, per se, but he refuses to see lae'zel lost to the lies of her queen and lae'zel is one of the few people to grab him by the shoulders and shake him when he starts to fall as well for certain manipulators, refusing to let him give himself up regardless of what's promised. she's the one that reminds him, plain and simple, that he's not alone. to trust in his and her skills, as well as the other companions', as much as she does. and that there's always a (more efficient) way ahead

Singrid: Just a few inches shorter than her brother, much to her dismay

Poom: Comes from a pretty tall family, but just so happens to me the shortest member of that family. He thinks he’s shorter than he actually is.

Singrid: While Singrid was offered the same education as her brother, she struggled with even the most basic concepts. At a certain point she decided her job was just to carry heavy equipment. Living proof of nature vs. nurture. 

Grunt: Scouted by inquest recruiters as a child. The Grunt was subjected to the standard foot soldiers ‘education’ within the Inquest. It wasn’t all that great, but it wasn’t like she could leave. 

Algor: Personally tutored by his adopted asuran father- surpassing the potential of even some asuran peers in Rata Sum. Living proof of nurture vs. nature. 

Poom: Got along okay in school, enough to Graduate Dynamics with above average grades. His true passions lie in paranormal investigation, which isnt as revered in Rata Sum. People just assume he’s crazy. 

Wisdom:

Singrid: Would look a grenade launcher down the barrel as she’s trying to figure out how to fire it. 

Grunt: What the Grunt lacks in formal education, she makes up for in sheer experience. She’s worked on just about every Inquest base the Megakrewe allows such a low-ranking agent, and tangled with more bizarre magical creatures than most norn hunters will in their lifetime. 

Algor: Algor began making supply runs in greater Tyria when he was sixteen, allowing him to come into his own as a traveller and genius. 

Poom: Easily distracted and has a nasty habit of sharing his conspiracy theories to the members of the organisations he suspects. Common sense is not amongst his strengths. 

Education:

Singrid: Technically a ‘drop out’, seeing as her father gave up on teaching her alongside her brother. However, the special attention Ruffik can give Singrid while Algor is away has convinced her to give his lessons another go.  

Grunt: Didn’t so much as ‘graduate’ as she was drafted to punishment detail. Her propensity for disaster and mayhem did not make her school days enjoyable. 

Algor: Greatly exceeded his father’s expectations. 

Poom: A decent student, but easily distracted by his true passions. 

Social Ability:

Singrid: Dreamed all her life of leaving the Far Marina Base to party all through Tyria, only to suffer from extreme social anxiety. She’s since found happiness on the peaceful ice caps, content with her few friends and family. 

Grunt: Pretty amicable, if you can get over the whining and increased likelihood of the bar burning down. 

Algor: Still relatively uncomfortable in his own skin, but growing out of it. 

Poom: A highly contagious affliction and subsequent quarantine has given an already antisocial oddball agoraphobia. Poom has slowly been taking steps to be more comfortable with people, and can at the very least venture outside without a panic attack. 

Perceptiveness:

Singrid: Sensitive, painfully sensitive, so sensitive she becomes overwhelmed in large gatherings. Is one of the few people who can really understand Ruffik’s emotions at any given time and could be mistaken for a mind reader when it comes to people she’s close to. 

Grunt: Despite her attempt at an aloof bounty huntress persona, the Grunt is mostly in wilful denial. She knows whats going on, why it’s going on, and how things will probably end. She’s very bad at pretending not to care. 

Algor: His time outside the Far Marina Base has taken him from clueless hermit to what is average teenage boy. He still doesnt understand girls, though. 

Poom: Absolute dogshit at reading social signals, to the point of being near debilitating. His friends have to intervene to keep him from being beaten up half the time. 

Readability:

Singrid: There are two Singrids: The one who is comfortable and knows the people in the room, and the Singrid who is in public and trying to keep from crying. You wouldnt expect the firey young norn from the FMB to wilt so easily in a crowd, and you’d be wrong. 

Grunt: Any attempts to hide her emotions are humorously in vain. Its lucky her partner, krewemate, and totally-not-boyfriend is painfully dense. 

Algor: Can put up a pretty convincing stoic front. It’s when he opens his mouth the youthful bravado comes spilling out. 

Poom: His high anxiety and odd mannerisms make him an open book. An open book in a language you cant read, but nonetheless open.

Algor: Would do anything for a partner to share his intellect, but is still too insecure to ask anyone out. There’s also the size factor- none of the other apprentices so much as reach his knee. That ‘tragedy’ is a bit romantic in its own right- according to him. 

Poom: Is oblivious to romance, and hasnt had the best track record. His last relationship ended in nothing short of catastrophe, he’s still too ashamed to face his ex to stay long in Rata Sum. This has kept him rather guarded when it comes to relationships.

Singrid: Very touchy. Will shamelessly pick up and snuggle anyone she cares about. 

Grunt: Has a pointed distaste for ‘mushy stuff’ and goes out of her way to avoid any intimacy that could be construed as romantic. 

Algor: Mostly only hugs his sister. Was more cuddly as a kid, but since the growth spurt he worries about accidentally crushing people. 

Poom: Has gone three years without touch due to his affliction. Avoids touch like the plague so as not to become overwhelmed.

Singrid: Whether she’s in full swing or shyly hugging the wall, Singrid comes across as a friendly, if not rough around the edges- young norn. 

Grunt: Affable and friendly until things go wrong. They’re usually going wrong. 

Algor: Knows how to be polite in public. Snarks on occasion. 

Poom: Absolute bastard of a man. You know this. Why even ask.

Singrid: Pretty neutral on people as a whole. Gets irritated easily, and doesnt have any kind words for people who make her uncomfortable.

Algor: Has a healthy dollop of teen angst. 

Poom: One of the more kindly people you’ll meet, once you get past his eccentricities. Genuinely doesnt want to upset anyone, and is a die hard pacifist.

Singrid, Grunt, Algor: All petty little drama queens. 

Poom: Will put up with a lot of bullshit, so long as you dont press one of his triggers. Can only really muster the energy to hate one thing at a time. Usually tries to solve ‘misunderstandings’ when they come up.

Singrid: Crippling social anxiety 

Grunt: PTSD

Algor: He’s fine, honestly. 

Poom: Autism, PTSD, Depression, Social Anxiety, Agoraphobia, probably more.

Singrid: Will break pretty easily either from her anxiety or by getting too excited about a cool rock. 

Grunt: Attempts are made at stoicism. They are laughable. 

Algor: Is prone to teen melodrama. He’s growing out of it, though.

Singrid: Her training in the harsh Far Marina conditions have made her an adept warrior.

Poom: An almost destructive lack of self-preservation. 

Loyalty:

Singrid: The few companions she has, she aims to keep. 

Grunt: Wont die for the ship, but will save her favourite pirate. 

Algor: Still has somewhat naive opinions on teamwork in a krewe. It’s almost a good thing he’ll likely never be in one. 

Poom: Not a lot of people understand him, those that try are greatly appreciated. Even people who dont try, he’ll gladly meet half way. Even if you dont even like him at all he’s got your back. Even if you’ve just spit in his mouth he’ll-

Lawfulness:

Singrid: Does what she wants. If that means breaking some heads, she’ll do it. If it means drinking tea and brushing up on her knitting, thats her glitching right!

So tumblr ate the ask of course, but @multi-fandom-remy (I hope this was you that requested this my memory is not good and if it wasnt I'm sorry) sent a fic request where Janus has alexithymia and Remy falls for him regardless. Gonna just post it this way, suck it hell site!

I had to do some research for this as I dont know anyone who has this and I dont personally experience it. I tried to write it as accurately and respectfully as possible but please let me know if you feel I wrote it wrong or in a way that's offensive.

Three Times Janus Didn't Understand and The One Time Remy Did

Summary: Janus has alexithymia and doesnt understand what hes falling for; Remy is perfectly content to teach him.

Warnings: none really. Just not understanding ones own emotions. Ts spoilers if you havent watched the most recent Sanders Sides episode

Ship: Remy (sleep) x Janus (Deciet)

Remy's head snapped up as the bell above the door chimed loudly, letting in a rather peculiar character. Dressed in black save for bright yellow gloves, their long trench coat swept around their ankles as they turned to make sure the door was shut. Truly curious now, Remy leaned forward eagerly, excitement thankfully hidden by his dark sunglasses.

The glasses did little to hide his reddening cheeks however as the newcomer swept off his hat and turned fully to face the cashier.

Oh. Remy leaned forward casually trying to hide the flood of oh-I-am-most-definitely-gay panic rising up through his chest. Sharp eyes breifly met his before darting back down as they made their ways towards the counter. Thanking every god that could possibly be real that the shop was empty at this time of day, he smiled easily as they came to a stop in front of the counter.

"Morning coffee. What babe will it be?"

The stranger snapped their head up in confusion, giving Remy only a split second to retain that their eyes were very pretty, one a pale brown and the other almost gold before his brain caught up with what his mouth had just uttered. Red cheeks reddening even further he closed his eyes and mentally slapped himself over the head with an industrial bag of coffee grounds.

Opening his eyes once again, he chuckled. "You'll find me dont discriminate here. We got flat white, Irish cream, long black." He cupped his cheek and smirked. "Or maybe you're the shy, straight vanilla kind of guy?"

The stranger, to his credit, was unimpressed, almost making Remy pout if it weren't for the fact he was still trying to scrape his pride up off the ground. "A mocha with five espresso shots please."

Whistling low, he turned to complete the order. "I'm assuming to go?"

"Yes."

"Late night?" He grabbed a cup and fiddled with the machine a bit, turning to grab the pump for the espresso as it began to run.

"In a sense."

Snorting, Remy turned to look again at the stranger. Through his obvious good looks there were eye bags that could rival his room mates', slumped posture and rather ratty shoes completing the picture for him. "I always hated college exams. Theres never enough time to cram."

"We've all bean there."

Pausing in applying the lid to the cup, Remy smirked and turned. "Did you just-?"

Seeming uncomfortable, the stranger shrugged, taking the drink and handing over the money. Offering a quiet thank you they left quickly, coat flying out like a cape behind them.

Janus shoved his hands deeper in his pockets on the way to his favorite coffee shop. He had only been going there for a week now, but the coffee was amazing, and the cashier/coffee maker was...interesting. Janus' cheeks still burned in what he now realized was second hand embarrassment at the way the other had flirted? with him the first day. Patton said he had been flirting so he'd have to trust his friend knew what he was talking about. His stomach gave another uncomfortable flip as the shop came into view, making him grit his teeth in annoyance. Everytime he came here the same thing happened with his intestines, like they were too tight and too loose at the same time, flipping his stomach around in a way that felt like the flu...but better? Regardless it hadnt started until he had begun coming to the little shop and Janus was determined to pinpoint the cause. That was why he kept coming back.

No other reason.

His stomach flipped again as he shoved the door open, grimacing as he made up his mind to buy some kind of pastry with his usual coffee to try to quiet down what he was now going to assume were hunger pangs. This early in the morning the shop was blessedly empty, allowing him and the cashier to have their odd conversations in relative peace.

"Morning babes!"

He glanced up and tried for a smile, letting the odd movement drop after only a couple seconds. Remy smiled and smirked enough for the both of them anyway.

He made his way up to the counter, startling as a to-go cup was pushed his way.

"Regulars get the Remy special. Their usual cup of hot coffee ready before they even come through the door." He winked as he leaned against the counter, hitting Janus with the realization that the man had apparently forgone his sunglasses for the day. Deep brown eyes stared back at him before he broke eye contact, snapping his gaze to the cup in front of him.

"I'd like a muffin with it today as well, if you would."

"Sure. What kind?"

Janus looked up hopefully. "Banana nut?"

Remy bit back a laugh, muttering 'nut' under his breath while retrieving the requested pastry. Rolling his eyes Janus dug out the cash; he was learning Remy was fond of unintentional innuendos, Patton pointing out that that had been what he was insinuating in their first meeting. He tried for a polite smile again as he grabbed his items after paying, stomach going it's odd flip again as the other man smiled back.

Maybe it was the air.

Remy perked up as the door chimed, smiling as his favorite regular made his way through the door right before closing time. He had somehow gotten the rather shy man to agree to a date (an outing the other had insisted) taking place after his shift had ended. He seemed tense and Remy was determined to take his mind off whatever it was that kept his shoulders up and head down. Sure it made socializing difficult, people often labeling him as awkward or withdrawn in any given situation; when in reality he just was rarely given enough time to try and pinpoint what one emotion was before being put in a situation where a different response was needed. It was honestly exhausting.

He bit his lip as he looked back over to Remy, seeing that same smile he always gave him that made his stomach flip every time. He tried offering one of his awkward smiles, feeling that that was the most appropriate for the situation.

Remy softened as he took off his glasses, turning to face him fully. "You dont have to do that around me, it's okay. Just be yourself, and tell me if and when you get uncomfortable yeah?"

Janus' eyes filled with tears as he twisted his fingers in his jeans. An intense wave of emotions came over him, making him choke slightly as he tried in vain to process everything. He felt Remy take his hands gently and squeeze them, tugging slightly as he unconsciously leaned towards the other.

VERY early on, the way she treats rory... im so sorry, but that shit makes me feel so violently uncomfortable. like she just straight up cheats on him? tries to fuck her imaginary best friend from childhood? on the day before her wedding? and its like- im sorry but i dont remember does amy ever even... say sorry??? and then in s6, she’s just tied into that... that whole mess of a god damn plot that i try to suppress.  and thats not on her but i dont ever enjoy her presence during that period. and THEN early s7 its, like... i have a lot of issues with early s7 but it was, like, the height of doctor flandarisation and the ponds really should have just been phased out more slowly rather than forcing out the tragic ending because it just meant nothing to me. ✨  what draws you towards your hyperfixation? what is interesting about it? doctor who primed me for, like, having an affinity for campy scifi. star trek, tho.. fuck, its like? a tossup between the characters (all of them are so endearing after a while) and just... some of the episodes are so fucking beautiful and thoughtful man. like oh boy we have some clunkers in there, for sure, but there’s some where they have a concept and how they know how to handle it they really just do it right. i think its kind of in part because it was done in the 60s, and they had their limitations and they take it at such a different pace than they would now. i think a lot of that actually is what makes the show for me? I MADE A POST ABT IT ALREADY, BUT ITS ALSO A CASE OF JUST... the way its shot. the lighting, the sets, everything is so nice. it’s simple and its clean and it looks GOOD and whilst some sfx are dated looking (GOD BLESS THE ALIEN COSTUMES) i think... literally any scenes on the bridge are timeless just because they didnt go ott. I KNOW IM GETTING AWAY FROM THE QUESTION, BUT YEAH LIKE- i havent seen the latest star trek (unsure if i’ll watch it soon, or watch everything else first) but whilst it looks beautiful i dont.. actually like the look of it? i don’t really vibe with it when it’s so overproduced like that. there’s this... unreality and this fakeness. SPN Did Something Pretty Amazing

One thing I have always liked about Supenatural, is that theyre willing to try things no other shows have done. Most of the time it works, sometimes it doesnt, but theyre not affraid to think outside the box. Things like having a cross-over with Scooby Doo, or episodes like The French Mistake, or Fan Fiction, are great, though theyre doable only because of the premise of the show. In the supernatural world, nothing is impossible. The heros die and come back a lot, old characters come back in various ways, in dreams, time travel, or even as the same character, and this is ok because again, in the supernatural world nothing is impossible. However, this newest amazing thing, at its core, didnt come to pass because of supenatural influence, but because of human actions, and viewer acceptance.  Two brothers and their Angel buddy, adopt an adult orphan son.  Think about that. What show has ever done such a thing? None. In similar cases, like 3 Men and a Baby, Full House, Two and a half Men, there is one defined Father, and then the other men are uncles or support for the one father. But not on SPN, all 3 have been defined as this kid’s father, even though none of them are biologically his father. Even before Luficer died, we saw this beginning. And even stranger still, there were always strong efforts to keep Jack away from his biological father, which is also not a common practice. When dealing with an older child, theres always a “let them chose” clause. But thats never really been the case on SPN, it was always “Keep Lucifer away from this kid” and justifiably so, I might add, but its still strange for TV isnt it? Yet, somehow this all worked. Now, this isnt a debate on who deserves to be Jacks main father, which would obviously be Sam but to just talk about how the show managed to make this happen and be completely accepted by the viewers. 

I work with several SPN fans, though Im the only one who wouldnt really be considered a casual viewer, meaning Im the only obssessed one LOL but the others arent involved in SPN SM on tumblr or twitter, they dont go to conventions and none of them are into shipping. (thats right, it seems most casual viewers dont ship the characters) yet all of them think its cool that Sam, Dean and Cas are Jack’s fathers, none of them think its creepy, incestuous, or gay. One did joke that it sounded like the synopsis of a very bad porno, (2 brothers, and their buddy take in a young adult orphan as their own) but then said that its a very cool concept.  What I think made it work, is everything thats gone down in the last 13 years. I dont care if youre a wincest shipper or not, but theres no closer relationship on the show than Sam and Dean. We know now they are “stuck” with each other, they wont be finding a significant other and building their own family, and even in the end, they’ll be together. Be it on Earth, in Heaven, Hell or the Empty. Also, they have no closer companion than Cas. Whether or not you like the character, canonically, Cas is their best friend that they love as a brother.  Since the show revolves around family dynamics, good ones and bad ones, we’ve seen Sam and Dean in every position. As brothers, sons, cousins, friends, and even as husbands breifly to Lisa and Amelia. we never really got to see them as fathers. The show could have remedied this by having one of their ex girlfriends show up with a kid “Surprize!!” but Im glad they didnt. This would automatically put one brother in the position of Dad, and the other as Uncle and Cas is just that buddy in the trench coat. The way it was done, put all 3 men in a fatherly position that developed over different time lines and circumstances.  Im going to try to break this down in an unbias manner. We can all feel free to disagree with the outcome, but its how the show itself unfolded this little highly unorthodox family. Cas was the one appointed to be Jack’s father. Kelly gave this duty to him when she decided to allow herself to die to let her son be born, and Cas accepted. So it looked as though Cas would be this boy’s father, but as it was, Cas was dead when Jack was born.  Sam came to the plate next. His relationship developed organically with Jack. Some may not have seen it coming, but Sam was determined long before Jack was born, to NOT kill him, but to try to let him be born without the worry that he would be evil. When it was apparent they couldnt take his grace and make him human, Sam knew it didnt mean Jack HAD to be evil. Sam took the role as mentor right away. Caring for Jack and having genuine compassion for him. We were given the hint Sam felt fatherly when they showed him reading a parenting book. (my god that was the cutest thing) So the writers flipped the script and gave Sam a head start in the father field. Also, with Sam being first, it added this layer of beauty, because Sam fell in paternal love with the son of his torturer. He wasnt enlisted, or pushed, it just happened, and thats beautiful. Dean came last, and as a story teller, I can see why they chose this route. It had been established since S1 that Dean is good with kids and naturally paternal. To have him be the first “father” would leave Cas and Sam on unlevel ground through lack of experience. For Dean to follow up second from Cas, would make it too shippy, and Sam would probably never make it out from under the  “uncle” title. and wouldnt we always wonder if Sam held a little resentment inside? Jack being the son of Lucifer for starters, and Dean taking him in as a son? Over the seasons, Sam has made it very clear, he never wants to be #2 in Dean’s eyes, and this could bring around some bad brother drama.  Dean starts off hating Jack. Indeed he was way too nasty to him in the beginning. Not even gonna debate that, but for Sam, Dean gives the kid a shot. He discovers that yes, Jack is a good kid and now Deans natural paternal side clicks on. And keep in mind he didnt try to step onSam and take over. Yes they showed Dean and Jack bonding more than they did Sam, but he didnt take over. He made sure taking Jack out was ok with Sam, so did Cas. They both respected that Sam has been Jacks primary care giver since day 1, and Sam isnt selfish or possessive (over anyone/anything else besides Dean) so Sam is happy to share Jack so he can have as much positive influence as he can.  So I give TPTB credit for coming up with this formula, my only complaint being that they didnt need to make Dean as hateful as he was, they could have just made him hessitant and standoffish at first and that would have been enough but it is what it is, and that part is over thank Chuck. Now, most of us knew the “3 dads” thing was coming because the cast talked about it a lot, but those of us who dont follow the cons and interviews, still were pleasently surprised that this came about. I havent heard anyone complain that its creepy, even though if you tell someone whos never seen the show “On my show, the 2 brothers and their friend adopted an 18 yr old kid” they’d look at you funny.  We complain about the writers all the time because they do screw up a lot, but I like to give them credit when I can. This is one of those situations. They made something that seems creepy on the outside, not only acceptable, but wonderful, simply by how it was written. I feel the same way about how they handled the return of Mary. It didnt pan out as well as it could have, and thats really a whole other meta, but Im glad they didnt take an easy route with her making her a zombie, or Super Mom and put her in a really human position of a mother meeting her adult sons for the first time, but Ill save that for another post :)

All of our lovely flavors of elves in Azeroth, I can draw. Orcs, Tauren (Moosey or otherwise), Pandaren, Sethrak, Vulperan, Human, Worgen, Gnomes and Dwarves... Draenei and Goblins maybe? 

I can sort of draw a few different sorts of Final Fantasy races, I have a cute little Lalafell that I’ve drawn. This one’s probably more of a case-by-case. 

As previously stated, I can draw animal characters- fansasy or realistic. Wow hunter pets, dinosaurs, gryphons, dragons, run-of-the-mill real animals.

There were three distinct birthdays that Gladiolus remembered vividly in his mind - and on days like today - it tended to bring them to light.

The first that came to mind was his 15th birthday.

All had been well for that day.

His father and little sister had gifted him with presents earlier that morning, and a nice breakfast had been prepared. Little more was necessary to do for the day, so Gladio had resumed his scheduled duties as normal.

He wasn’t big on announcing these kinds of things, so typically only close friends and family even knew about the special occasion.

He was fine with that.

But when he had gotten to the citadel to train with Noct that day - he had been surprised when he as informed by the guard that the prince was sick. It wasn’t unusual for that to happen - but the most confusing part was when they reported to him that Noct had requested to see him in his chambers immediately. Mildly confused and alarmed, Gladio had done as he was told and made his way to the room.

His initial thoughts were that Noct wanted to apologize for missing another session, as they had very recently just begun to understand one another and probably didn’t want to damage it by skipping out, but that was not the case when Gladio entered the room.

The young boy was sitting up in his bed, medicines and tissues around him. He looked impressively tired and flushed, but his eyes lit up when he saw Gladio enter the room.

“Jeez, you look like hell, kid.” Gladio had said with a laugh, approaching the bedside. “This is what you get for not eatin’ your veggies.” He quirked an eyebrow at him, smirking as he did so.

Noct sniffled and glared at him, but the sneeze that followed broke his expression. “No way. This is your fault.” He grumbled, reaching for the tissue box.

Gladio blinked at him. “Huh? How’s this my fault?” He said abashedly, folding his arms together.

“Cause you didn’t tell me it was your birthday today - so I couldn’t think of anything else to get you.” Noct pouted, his cheeks puffing in frustration.

Gladio furrowed his brows. How had he found out in the first place -

Iris.

Obviously.

“Er - uh. Sorry? So you got sick ‘cause I didn’t tell you?” Gladio asked, eyeing him a bit confusedly.

“No - just - ugh, - here.” Noct said, reaching beside him.

Gladio reflexively caught the thing that was thrown at him, and his eyes grew wide as he looked down at it.

His hat.

His favorite hat.

He’d found it.

He’d lost it a few days prior when the wind had whipped it off of his head while he was taking a walk. He’d remembered complaining about it, but he didn’t think Noct had been so perceptive as to pick up on it - or remember.  

“I went to go find it - but it rained on me - then I fell into a pond when I tried to get it.” Noct admitted - a mixture of embarrassment and frustration staining his cheeks.

Gladio took a moment to gape at him - but his expression morphed completely when he threw his head back in laughter at the pouty face, the sound loud and genuine.

This kid…

He wiped a tear from his eye, still chuckling slightly. He took in a deep breath and shook his head, regarding Noct with a bright smile. “This was really thoughtful a’ you Noct.” He said after a moment, watching as the big blue eyes flashed up to him.

He had really been thinking about him.

Gladio let out a breath through his nose, then casually leaned forward and ruffled the prince’s dark hair. He kept it on his head until Noct turned to look at him, his flushed face the picture of adorable.

Gladio smiled.

“Thanks.”

Yeah, he’d never forget that one.

On his 15th birthday, he was given the gift of honesty.

The next distinct birthday was his 21st.

There were few things that Gladio hated more than people intruding or imposing on his personal life. He kept most of his personal feelings and emotions out of the mix, so when they were realized by people that he did not want seeing, it bothered him.

But...this day had been odd in the sense that it was one of the few times he appreciated it. Especially in the manner in which it had been presented.

It had been a ridiculously busy day and Gladio was flustered.

Training with the guard had been more brutal than usual that day, and he kept finding himself running back and forth between his responsibilities to Noct, the archives, and the training grounds. He had a lot to do before he was sworn in in a few weeks -

And it was driving him mad.

So he wasn’t exactly in a good mood when he returned home, he was just about ready to flop into bed and sleep away his bad temper. He’d debated visiting his home that day at all - but he knew what it meant to Iris that he was there on his birthday.

He had been stopped mid way up to his room, however, when Iris had called to him.

“Gladdy! Prompto dropped something off for you! I put it on your bed!” The little girl had called.

Gladio paused for a moment, but called back shortly afterwards: “Thanks, Iris!” and continued up to his room.

He knew it was likely a gift, but he was surprised by gesture - he had gone out of his way to come all the way to his place simply to drop it off? And Gladio hadn’t even been there?

It was unnecessarily kind.

When he had gotten up to his room, he found a small wrapped package laying neatly on his bed, on top was a note that was characteristically scribbled in Prompto’s handwriting.

Gladio had tentatively picked it up and opened it.

Hey big guy!

Happy birthday! I know it’s kinda weird for me to be dropping stuff off at your place but i really wanted to get this to you. Ive been working on it FOREVER. I think youre gonna like the last one hehe.

Gladio narrowed his eyes suspiciously at the last words

What the hell did this have to do with Ignis?

He set the note aside and reached for the package, undoing the wrapping paper.

For a moment, he simply stared at the cover of the gift.

It was a photo album - and the first picture in the center was the crest of the Shield with his name in the center.

It was very aesthetically pleasing with the swirls mixed nicely in with the font of his name. The rest was bound in soft leather, and he ran his hand over the material in slight awe of it.

Wow.

He opened the first page of the album, and was immediately pleased by what he saw. Pictures of the citadel cast in a myriad of brilliant sunset colors covered the first two pages, and he briefly remembered the tiny conversation he’d had with Prompto about how he liked how it looked -

The boy was way more perceptive than he’d given him credit for.

The next few pages were similar - though some had pictures of himself and his companions in various poses. Funny, epic, nonchalant, etc. The last images were particularly interesting, however. They each held a picture of his individual friends.

Noct was standing amongst the gardens of the castle, epically posing as wind whipped around his hair.

Prompto’s picture consisted of him giving a big thumbs up to a Cup Noodle stand in the citadel.

Iris had her own little picture - the girl smiling brightly while holding a vase of roses while a blue flower crown donned her brunette head.

Gladio had absolutely no idea how he had managed to take a picture of Cor smiling - though Prompto had likely used his advantage of being his adopted son to convince him to do so.

Clarus had opted to pose with Iris again, his eyes shining in genuine happiness as he and Iris stood next to each other.

This was...so thoughtful. He loved each and every one of the pictures so far. It was obvious how much thought Prompto had put behind each one - the boy had been questioning him lately in what he liked in pictures - but he hadn’t realized that he was doing that to put this together for him.

Prompto had been asking about it for so long he didn’t even give thought that it was perhaps for his birthday.

There were even a few pictures of his various friends in the crownsguard amongst them - it was so thoughtful.

They were all of his favorite kinds of pictures, but it was when he reached the last page that his heart jumped slightly.

He barely registered the tiny piece of paper that slipped out, as his eyes were completely fixated on the image.

It was of Ignis.

It was a close up of his sleeping face, sound and peaceful in a cushion of pillows and blankets. The filtered light cast him in a soft glow. His hair was uncharacteristically unruly, and it stuck up in various ends and partially covered his face in light brunet strands.

Gods was it cute.

This was...everything he wanted in a picture of him. Seeing his walls down and defenseless...it was incredibly endearing.

It rang off a few alarm bells, however - as it was quite obviously different from the other individual pictures of his friends…

Gods...Prompto didn’t...know, right?

He snapped himself out of it when he realized that the slip of paper had fallen at his feet, and he bent down to pick it up, opening it with twitchy fingers.

Got this one when we all went to that overnight carnival thing. I’m not a creeper, but I couldn’t resist. thought youd like it hehe

Gladio stared dumbly at the note - attempting to decipher any meaning behind it.

They hadn’t told anyone - at least as far as Gladio knew…

He shook his head.

Maybe this was just a little joke between them. Gladio reassured himself with the notion that he tended to like to ruffle their heads and mess up their hair - maybe Prompto was just picking up on the fact that he found bedhead particularly funny...

He gulped as he stared at the picture.

It certainly wasn’t a...funny picture though…

Gods.

Regardless, Gladio felt a smile come to his face for the first time that day, and he shook his head once, regarding the last picture on more time before he shut the album.

The gift had completely turned around his bad mood.

On his 21st birthday, he was given the gift of kindness.

It was the memory of his 19th that brought a soft smile to his lips.

It was this day that he could legitimately say he’d forgotten that it was his birthday. He hadn’t been home lately, his studies in college were keeping him away -  even though he tended to forget his birthdays initially, it was Iris and Clarus that usually reminded him.

He was away, however, and finishing up his first year in college. Busy wasn’t even an accurate testament to his schedule. Running from his classes to the citadel back to his classes was work of itself, and that wasn’t even counting the things he had to do when he got back to his apartment - and it was downpouring - with no signs of it stopping - which had increased traffic.

Gods.

Gladio threw back his head as he flipped close the textbook he was currently studying, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders as he finally completed his last task. He sat back in his chair staring blankly up at the ceiling in his small apartment.

Man…

He placed a hand on his stomach when he heard it growl, and he pressed his lips together as he looked at the pantry with only a few Cup Noodles left.

He sighed.

He’d not eaten today yet - he was going to end up devouring two of his precious Cup Noodles again.

Oh, well.

Ding dong

Furrowing his brow, the warrior pushed back his chair and stood to his feet, sauntering over to the door.

Who’d be here this late at night?

Especially in this rainy weather?

He stepped up to the door, unlocked the handle, and pulled it open.

His heart jumped in a mixture of delight and confusion.

At first, all he could do was stare straight into the green eyes tinged with annoyance. His jaw was set as he stared back just as intensely, and his expression relayed to Gladio that he was not exactly pleased at the given moment..

Uh, oh.

“Gladio.” Ignis greeted staley.

Oh, shit. He was in trouble.

“Hey, Iggy.” Gladio finally responded, his eyes doing a once over before he locked with his again. “What’re you doin’ here?”

Could he have sounded any more stupid? He at least could have said something like: It’s good to see you, or I missed you, or lemme get your things.

Because gods had he missed that face lately.

That clearly resounded with him as Ignis’s eyes narrowed a bit further. “Do you not answer your calls or texts anymore?” The younger man said impatiently, “I’ve been trying to contact you all day.”

Oh - SHIT.

He hadn’t even glanced at his phone that day. Not even so much as a look - in fact - he was pretty sure he’d left it on his bed this morning and hadn’t even noticed.

But - Ignis wouldn’t go so far as to drive all the way to his place if he wasn’t answering his calls...

“Uh - no, I - I forgot my phone today…” He answered dumbly, scratching the back of his neck. It was only when Ignis shifted the bags in his hands that Gladio realized that he was making an even bigger fool out of himself. “Uh - shit, come in. Sorry.” He apologized, stepping out of the way as Ignis gingerly walked in.

He shut the door behind him and clasped his hands together, watching as Ignis set down his wet umbrella amongst other things and turned to address him.

“You could have perhaps told me you’d be busy enough today that you couldn’t respond.” The strategist said - a tint of bitterness on his tongue as he neatly set aside his things. “I had no idea how to get a hold of you.”

Gladio furrowed his brows.

This was weird.

Ignis was typically very understanding of his busy days. This had happened before when he wasn’t able to contact him until later that night and explain himself - and Ignis had been caring and kind-worded as always.

He always understood if Gladio was kept away from their conversations.

Had he messed that up somehow?

“I’m sorry, Iggy - I really didn’t think that it’d be a big deal.” The warrior said sheepishly, suddenly intimidated by Ignis’s piercing eyes.

“You didn’t think it would be a - “big deal”?” Ignis repeated incredulously. “That’s terribly inconsiderate of you, Gladiolus.” He finished with a frown.

What in the gods names -?

Wow. He’d really ticked him off.

“I’m sorry, Iggy - I don’t know why you’re so upset. I’ve done this before an -”

“-Indeed. But I had hoped you have a small bit more wherewithal on the matter considering it is your birthday.” Ignis interjected, his hands coming up on his hips as he continued to glare solidly at him.

Gladio felt his body freeze.

Oh...oh….OOOOHHHHhhhhhh…

Wow.

He’d completely forgotten.

And it quite obviously showed on his face, as Ignis’s brow furrowed just a second before he brought up a hand to brace his forehead. “Ah...I see. You’d forgotten, then.” He said calmly, rubbing at his face.

Yup. Totally and completely.

“Yup.” Gladio admitted openly, harshly pressing his lips together as his guilt swelled in his chest.

Damnit. Ignis had probably been calling and texting him all day - along with the others. He didn’t even want to know the whooping he was going to get from Iris - as he’d completely ignored her. Prompto would pout - and Noct would go take a nap. And Iggy - well...yeah…

Gladio shut his eyes as he let out a deep sigh. “Shit...I’m...really sorry, Iggy. That was - wow. I feel really bad.” He admitted, using a thumb and forefinger to rub at his eyes.

Shit.

Ignis regarded him for a moment before he sighed and turned away. “Though, I suppose this makes more sense now.”

There he went again. All understanding.

But...Ignis had driven all the way up here...for him? Was he agonizing over it all day? Probably. Had he been trying to plan the day with him in mind? Probably. Was Gladio a complete and utter idiot? Definitely.

“Ah...can I get you somethin’? Somethin’ t’drink or eat or whatever?” The warrior spoke up after a long pause, deciding that he may as well try to make amends now.

Ignis’s eyes cast up to him, an uneasy light beneath them as he shifted his feet. “Actually...I was hoping I could do that for you.”

Ignis’s eyes fell to the bags on the table, and that was when Gladio noticed exactly what they were filled with.

Oh, gods. Likely all of his favorite things.

Gladio’s face melted into a soft smile, and he nodded once. “That’d be great, Iggy.” He said sincerely, and he took a few steps towards him, watching as Ignis’s eyes met with his. “- I’ve been dying for some a’ your cooking.” He used a hand to gently tilt up his face, planting a soft kiss on his forehead. “Kitchen’s all yours.” Gladio’s heart fluttered slightly as Ignis’s hardened eyes softened considerably and a gentle smile pulled at his lips.  

“Very well.” The strategist conceded with small nod.

The two of them made work to prepare the ingredients, and just as Gladio had thought, it was all of his favorite things - well - besides Cup Noodles that was. Meat skewers, potatoes - and he had even managed to sneak his favorite wine.

Leave it to Ignis.

They’d indulged in small conversation and easy laughs. Gladio’s heart felt lighter and his mood shift each second he stood in the presence of his cherished one. Though it had only been days, it felt as though weeks had passed since they’d spent any quality time together - and he knew that that had played a significant role in his fraying patience.

The meal had been fantastic, as it always was - especially since it had been made with such care and thought in mind. After they finished, they’d quickly retired to the small couch in his living room, each with a glass of wine and many stories to share about their recent ventures in school, work, and their personal lives.

The mood changed, however, when they both fell into a comfortable silence, listening to the soft music Gladio had set in the background while the gentle rain poured outside.

He was about to speak, but stopped when Ignis chose to first.

“I...suppose I should give this to you now, as I see no better time.” Ignis had said slowly, hesitantly reaching into his back pocket.

Gladio watched in curiosity as he pulled out a small, wrapped brown package, tied neatly with a dark rope, and held it in his hands for a moment.

“Excuse the terrible wrapping...I was hardly given time…” It was evident he was trying to avoid sounding embarrassed, and it made Gladio’s lips rise in a tiny smile.  

Gladio laughed lightly at the remark, reaching forward to take the offered gift. He exchanged a single glance with him before he turned his attention to the small wrapping - and he carefully undid the neatly tied twine and let the loose wrapping come apart as he pulled a the edges.

His eyes widened.

It was...a necklace…

And not just any necklace.

“I’m not sure if you’ll recognize it, but it’s in replication of the Lucis’s fifth King’s Shield: G -”

“Gladiolus.” Gladio finished immediately - knowing exactly what it was the moment he laid eyes on it. “It’s…” He couldn’t even finish the sentence as he reached for the jewelry, picking up the long string of beads linked together with silver shards dotting in a patternized order. At the end hung two crossed silver bars, and he ran his thumb over the material, marveling at the weight.

“I wouldn’t give this to you unless I truly believe that you may uphold the namesake you’ve been given.” Ignis said after a brief pause. “Gladiolus was a fearsome and loyal warrior to his king - righteous as he was courageous. He was the embodiment of strength and protection - though that did not define him. His character was awe inspiring, and all who knew him offered him their sincerest trust.” Gladio was transfixed on Ignis’s smooth motion as he reached for the necklace, gently taking it from his hands. “And that it was I see in you.”  Ignis’s arms reached above him as he easily looped the long chain around Gladio’s neck, but Gladio could barely look away from the honest eyes that followed his movements. A small pause filled the space between them as Ignis finished smoothing out the necklace, his hand lingering on his chest.. His eyes flashed to his as he reached up to caress his face with both hands. “I see strength not defined by muscle; but character.”

The rush of movement that followed the words was amplified when Gladio dove forward, his lips trapping Ignis’s in a movement so fast he had barely registered it. Ignis must have been expecting it, though - as he allowed himself to fall back, wrapping both arms around Gladio’s neck as he passionately returned the gesture.

heres 3k of cullen/romelos that im never gonna finish 

in my head, they have a sort of fling inbetween corypheus’ defeat and the beginning of trespasser 

its just a bit of the beginning and then the breakup bc thats. really all i wanted to write in the first place. im mostly just putting this here for continuity’s sake. 

skyhold was lonely. romelos could pass time with just about anyone, but people she really connected with were few and far between. and her companions are leaving. varric heads to kirkwall soon enough, and he writes often, but its a sore replacement for his company. dorian heads to tevinter, and romelos misses his company even more than varric's. she sends him letters weekly with gossip from skyhold. some of it she makes up. cassandra leaves for the sunburst throne. blackwall just leaves, and she doesn't know why for months. 

iron bull wouldn't leave unless he were kicked out, and the chargers stay with him. romelos probably spends the most of her free time with him. he is warm, and he makes her laugh, and the chargers accept her as one of their own. cole is another favorite of hers. he always has an ear to listen, and never stops offering to help. she likes taking him on missions to fix things, or to help people, although he finds ways to help no matter where he was. his happiness made her happy. she supposes he knows that. 

vivienne is good company for a while. they talk at great lengths about magic, and what vivienne will do now that cassandra is divine, and what romelos will do now that the breach is closed. vivienne teaches her the power to command a room, instead of just the battlefield. she leaves for orlais, however, and though her letters are frequent at first, they grow more sparse over time. romelos knows she is busy, and sends her letters all the same. vivienne responds to groups of them at once, never skipping over anything romelos says. 

sera stays for a while, but part of romelos thinks its because sera doesn't have anywhere to go back to. its not a problem though, even if romelos finds herself on the receiving end of more than one prank. josephine is a delight to have around, even if romelos can't spend a lot of time with her. they wander the gardens occasionally, and the little songs josephine hums under her breath always put a smile on romelos' face. 

cullen gets more than a fair share of her time. they have game nights at least one night a week, whenever she's in skyhold, sometimes involving other people, sometimes not. they play chess, and wicked grace, and one time they try to come up with their own card game but it falls apart as soon as they try to teach someone else. sometimes there's alcohol involved, and sometimes, they get to talking so much their game falls aside, and its just conversation. easy conversation, that flows like they've been friends for ages. romelos feels more herself around him, and maybe its because she saw him at a weak point, at a point where he became unpleasant and hard to deal with. she thinks that gives her a certain permission to be weak or unpleasant around him, and still be accepted. 

it is a night like this, when their cards have been set aside in favor of a bottle of rum passed back and forth, that he surprises her. 

"i still dont get how he could have done that," he says, his words a little slurred, his face a little flush. 

"done what?" 

"left you. at that lake." ah. he was talking about solas. romelos wasn't letting herself complain about him much these days, but cullen seemed happy enough to do the complaining for her. "i mean. wasn't he supposed to be smart? pretty dumb move, if you ask me." 

"how do you figure?" she leans her head on her hand and watches him with half-lidded eyes. his face is flushed deeper and he takes another generous swig from the bottle before speaking again. 

"anyone with half a brain would never pass up a chance with you." he slams the bottle on the table and leans forward, locking eyes with her. "he had you, as much as you could be had, and he threw it away! what a fool!" she grabs the bottle from his hand, and notices him jump when her fingers brush his. 

"what about you then, cullen?" she takes a swig. "are you a fool?" 

"no!" he says immediately, a knee-jerk reaction. a second later, he says, "am i?"  

"you certainly were." he is flushed all the way to his ears now. "you had a chance, you know." she pauses, and he glances at her. he looks away quickly. "i could have fallen for you, commander." she sees him swallow. 

"really?" 

"oh yes. do you really doubt yourself so much?" 

"well you were such a dreadful flirt, especially at haven. how could i have known you were serious?" he tried to keep his tone light, but she could hear the disappointment and insecurity in his voice. 

"you think i couldn't have been serious? how many people did i actually flirt with? solas, you, dorian -and you know that doesn't count. bull once or twice but thats just how he is. harding once, as a joke to lighten the mood." she takes a drink and then leans back in her chair. she sees cullen's eyes flicking between her own eyes and her lips. "i know most of those are jokes, but only because there wasn’t a sincere chance of it happening. and if it made you think i wasn't taking you seriously, i apologize. but give yourself more credit, commander." 

he wrings his hands for a moment, and looks like he's chewing on the inside of his cheek to stop himself from saying every word he's thinking. finally, he lets out a chuckle and runs his hands through his hair. he stares at the ceiling, still chewing on his lip. 

"i really was a fool, wasn't i?" he asks quietly, more to himself than to romelos. 

"to be fair, cullen, i was too." she corks the bottle and stands up. "i think its about time i took my leave. we do have responsibilities in the morning." he says nothing as she leaves. 

romelos takes the long walk back to her room in skyhold, letting the cool night air clear her head. her steps sway a little, so she stays back from the edge. 

she hates when he brings up solas. romelos wants to be done talking about him. it no longer hurts to see her own reflection, and she no longer holds the hope that he will return to skyhold. she is content to let it stay in her past, but cullen, it seems, is not. and every time he brings up solas, it reminds romelos of what she and cullen almost had. 

some mornings, especially after long nights with cullen, she wakes with the feeling of lips on her own, and her fingers tangled in curly blond hair. she always pushes it down, writes it off as just loneliness. or selfishness, because it would be awfully conceited to think he would still be interested in her after so long. 

neither of them speak of that conversation. cullen averts his gaze when romelos walks in to the war room, but is otherwise normal. over the next few days, though, she can't tell if he is avoiding her on purpose or if he's just busy. she doesn't see him for more than a few minutes, but he agrees to meet her in the garden for a game of chess later, so she tries not to think too much about it. the sun is just setting when cullen joins her in the garden. he apologizes for being so late, says that he was waist deep in supply requisitions and leave requests and unfinished reports, and josephine would not let him leave until it was sorted through. romelos laughs. 

"you know, if you did your paperwork before it got up to your waist, it wouldn't be such an ordeal." she makes the first move. he is quick to counter. 

"you say that as if you've never been swimming in un-filed forms." 

they go back and forth for a while. romelos lights a lantern when the sun disappears completely below the horizon. it is full dark when they finish their game (romelos wins, not that it matters, nor does she gloat). the moon is full and illuminates the garden in silver light. 

"walk the battlements with me? the sky is pretty tonight," cullen says. "the sky is pretty every night, but.. the moon is full?" his voice gets quieter and his hand shoots up to the back of his neck. romelos smiles. 

"sure." 

she points out constellations, telling him the dalish stories associated with them. he tells her the names and stories the chantry taught him, how he found comfort in picking them out of the sky whenever he was travelling. they fall in to pleasant silence, looking out at the moonlight reflecting on the snow-capped mountains.  

"i wanted to.. apologize." though he is nervous, he manages to look at romelos while speaking. "it was inappropriate to bring up solas. i consider you a friend, romelos, but your romantic involvements are your own personal business, and i crossed a line." 

she is.. surprised. she had expected them both to just ignore what had happened. she certainly hadn't expected an apology.

"it's alright," she says. "i dont know if you crossed a line so much as there really never.. was a line? we've always been too familiar with each other." she wants it to sound reassuring, but is afraid it sounds like its even more of a problem. 

"oh," cullen says. she watches him process what she said, sees his brows knit together in thought. "you're right. we never had much of a professional distance. i didn't realize how deeply the problem ran until now. i apologize again, lavellan, and i will take my leave. im sure you have a busy day tomorrow and you should get a full night's sleep." he starts to walk past her towards his room and she grabs his arm. 

"cullen, wait." he stops with no struggle. "thats not what i meant." her voice is soft. she wants to look down but forces herself to look up at his face. he is watching her closely and her heart beats faster. "i don't want a 'professional distance'." that was what she had with solas, after he left her at the lake. she couldn't bear the thought of cullen only calling her 'inquisitor' or only talking to her about inquisition responsibilities. he takes her hand gently. he is smiling. 

"good. neither do i." he leans down, closing his eyes, and romelos stands on her tip toes to reach him. his lips are chapped, and he seems like he's afraid to mess it up, or afraid that she will push him away. she does the opposite - she places a hand on the back of his neck, threading her fingers in to the hair she's dreamed about, and pulls him down, pressing their lips closer. 

when they finally step apart, they're both red in the face and grinning. his hair is mussed and his lips are red from kissing, and romelos thinks he's never looked more handsome. 

"i uh, really do have to get some sleep," she says. "we're leaving for the emprise tomorrow morning. but i'll see you first thing when i get back." 

"i'm sure i'll see you before you leave. sleep well, romelos." he turns to walk away and gives her a small awkward wave. she laughs a little and returns it, and practically floats to her room.

"so, you and the commander, huh?" bull asks as soon as their out of the gates of skyhold. 

"how did you-" she starts, but then realizes. 

"ben-hassrath," they say together. 

"he had this look on his face, directed specifically at you." cole is listening intently. "was he good?" romelos flushed redder than her hair and almost fell off her hart. 

"what do you mean? we haven't-" she sputters and iron bull lets out a roaring laugh. 

"no, i figured you hadn't. the commander doesn't seem like the type to rush in to the sack. you don't either, for that matter. but you've kissed right? is he a good kisser?" 

"he's a fine kisser, though i cant see how its any of your business," she says, glaring at him out of the corner of her eyes. 

"curling fingers through curling hair, lips soft and secure. you never wanted to stop." 

"cole!" romelos shouts. bull laughs. she nudges her hart forward and keeps herself 10 feet ahead of them until they stop to camp.

when they get back to skyhold, romelos finds a hot bath in her room, and a roaring fire in the fireplace. there is a bottle of wine, a soft towel, and a folded note on the little table beside the tub. she strips and sinks in to the hot water, exhaling at the sharp contrast against her icy skin. it is the perfect temperature, and the tension seeps out of her stiff legs and back. after her body is warmed through and through, she pours herself a glass of wine and picks up the note.

thought you would need something to warm you up after time in the emprise. if you need something stronger than a hot bath and some wine, ive got a brand new bottle of spiced rivaini rum in my quarters. would love to hear about your trip over a couple of glasses and a game of cards.

she smiles and her stomach is warm without even touching the wine. how thoughtful. she would have to join him later. for now, she was content to sink lower in to the water, to close her eyes and listen to the crackling fire. 

in her state of relaxation, romelos almost falls asleep. she forces her eyes open, and stands up out of the water. she dries herself before she steps out and gets dressed. it is not very late, so cullen should still be awake. she thinks he might even stay up for her, if it is later than she thinks. romelos grabs a heavy cloak and starts walking to his quarters. the moon is just a sliver hanging low in the sky. the wind is cold and harsh, telling of a cruel winter approaching. 

she knocks a couple times on the door before walking in. cullen is sitting at his desk, two empty glasses in front of him. he smiles and gestures her to sit down across from him. in the time it takes to hang her coat and sit down, the glasses are full of dark rum. she takes a sip of the nicest rum she's ever had. it must have been expensive. she wonders if cullen bought it just for her. he deals cards between the two of them and asks about her trip. 

she tells him between sips of rum, and they pass the hours like they pass cards back and forth. she laughs, and she makes him blush, and she stays until she is struggling to keep her eyes open. there is a small smile on cullen's face when he sees her head bob forward before she jerks it back up, snapping her eyes open.  

"i'll walk you back to your room," he says. she wobbles to her feet, having drunk more than she had planned on. after watching her struggle with the clasp on her cloak, cullen steps in and fastens it for her. he smells like the spices on the rum and the spices in his cologne. in the back of her mind, she remembers that he only wears cologne on special occasions. the thought that this was a special night makes her stomach flip. she fights the urge to press herself against his chest and inhale. then she thinks 'fuck it' and does it anyway. 

cullen's hands hover over her shoulders. romelos' hands wrap around his waist and she hums happily as she inhales the spicy-sweet cologne. 

"uh.. romelos?" 

she quickly releases her grip on his waist and steps back. her immediate fear is that she has overstepped a boundary, that she has pushed unwanted affection on him. 

"you smell good. you're wearing your fancy cologne." from the alcohol, her words feel thick like molasses on her tongue. he smiles tenderly. 

"since you like it so much, i should wear it more often." he offers her his arm and leads her slowly across the battlements towards the rotunda. she leans heavily on him, but he doesn't mind. 

"i would like that but," but she's sure its expensive and she doesn't want him to spend money to impress her. "if you wore it all the time, it wouldn't be your fancy cologne. it would just be normal. i like that it's special." they cut through the rotunda, and now that solas isn't here all night studying, the room isn't kept lit at night. the light from the library filters down and she can barely make out the mural on the wall. it makes her stomach clench. she looks down at her hand grasping cullen's arm.

"well, if you say so. maybe we just need more special occasions at skyhold." he walks her to the door in the corner and quiet descends on them. she doesn't want to say good night. 

"tell josephine. i'm sure she would be able to find an excuse for another party."

"i don't think.. we can do this anymore." romelos speaks quietly and the words fall hollow from her lips. the words feel as empty as she does. 

"what do you mean? what's wrong?" the hurt in cullen's voice is immediate, and she had prepared herself for it but it still cut her through. 

"i don't think im... capable of being in a relationship." she looks at him and regrets it. if she thought the hurt in his voice was bad, the hurt on his face was worse. she could have physically stabbed him and his face wouldn't hold as much pain as it did right then.

"is this about solas?" another dagger of ice to her stomach. 

"a little. it's mostly about me, though. and you. you deserve better, and you deserve someone who can commit to you, and i can't do that." 

"okay," he says, his voice wavering. she can hear how hard he's working to keep it flat. "i can't make you love me, no matter how badly i want to."

I went to local restaurant Buddy’s BBQ the other day. I then wrote a Yelp review. The owner didn’t like my review and replied. He started out apologetic but quickly got very defensive and eventually sarcastic. The whole review and ensuing conversation follow.

This place is close to home and I'd read good reviews. I was disappointed. We went for lunch on a Friday. We arrived around 1:15, after the normal lunch rush. No crowd, only a couple of guys and they were waiting for take-out. First up, my companion ordered the daily special that was on a small blackboard near the entrance. Turns out that was actually Thursday's special. The woman at the counter said she hadn't gotten around to changing it. We both ordered the actual Friday special which was a 2 meat, 2 sides plate. We each got a beer also. When I went to pay, the woman said their credit card reader was down, had been for 2 days. So, I had to pay with cash. OK, on to an empty table, which was dirty, to wait for our order. We bussed it and wiped it off. About 10 minutes later, the guy from the kitchen came out to tell me the pulled pork, one of the meats I ordered, wasn't ready. I asked for sausage instead. Between us, we had the sausage, ribs and sliced brisket. Ribs were good, sausage was average store-bought links, brisket tasted OK but was dry and fatty, a hard combination. The BBQ sauce, which was needed for the dry brisket, was also very average. The okra and slaw sides were average. Overall the food isn't bad but it certainly doesn't warrant a rave rating. The operational mess pulls the rating down too. There is no excuse to have several unbussed tables when the place was almost empty. The kitchen should tell the person taking the orders when they run out of an item (the pulled pork). If the credit card system isn't working, there should be a sign informing the customers it is cash only. First impressions count, and Buddy's didn't make a very good one on us. The food is not outstanding enough to overcome the other problems.

5/19/2018My apologies Billy. We have had once again some employee issues. One of them hasn't been on time which put things behind which are not hard things. I expect the place to be ready at 11:00 and it was not. I tried to give these guys a chance. Ended up they both walked out on a Friday lunch and left my wife to finish by herself until I arrived , and the kitchen a disaster. We locked the door. There was pulled pork ready , I smoked it that morning. The tables are inexcusable and that is a big deal to me. The brisket I'm not sure what they gave you , but brisket I dont make dry or AVERAGE. The sausage is not store bought , but I'm working on a different sausage , one that has that wow to it. These guys are gone. I'm having to get tech support on the credit card machine , not sure when that will happen , hopefully tomorrow. I would appreciate it if you would come back and let me get you a plate of bbq that you will enjoy , and your friend. Give me a heads up first. I may not open tomorrow , I have no employees. But I have couple of caterings so I will have bbq cooking if you come them. Once again I apologize for your experience. No excuse for that. Thanks Buddy

At least three tables were unbussed. The first empty table we found had caked on average BBQ sauce. I appreciate the apology, but the food I had was not better than average. Please don't blame the BBQ sauce on the one beer (Shiner's) that came from your cooler. Maybe you and your restaurant did just have a bad day but that is not my fault. The door was not locked and the "Open" sign was in the window when we got there. BTW, we used the nearby trash can to bus the table when we left.

I cant seem to find people who can follow instructions and show up on time. Common sence... forget it. So come get your free meal then. Tell me what sausage you like. Send me some employees. One was late and hungover and the other came for 2 hours and walked out. My wife ran the register , trying to figure out the credit card issue , help the helpless in the kitchen and clean tables. If you see a place with good reviews obviously all those people weren't drunk when they ate. Something had to be right. So you go in and it's not even close , then something was obviously wrong. Would you think , hmm they must be having a bad day ? Maybe give a low score and say I didnt think it was that great. Or maybe try again another time. But it was your duty to let everybody know in detail , what a crappy place , and be the one to save from being lured in and wasting their money by this trap they call Buddys bbq. Everything from crumbs on the table to lousy sauce to the "special of the day sign" ,and that we should have had a sign out front about the credit card machine. Maybe we should have had a sign by the street so people dont waste gas turning in. Jeeze . Ok well since your the one that saved these people from let down , you deserve a free meal. We had a bad day man , good lord. I thank you for teaching me a lesson about running a restaurant, by taking some of that business away. Tell me your ready for your meal.I got ya hooked up.

I did not reply and further engage with this owner who is obviously very defensive and in denial. It is not my fault that I picked a "bad day" to stop by his restaurant. I was willing to give the place a second chance until Buddy went overboard with the excuses and sarcasm. I will not be returning and will now spread the word that this is a poor choice when looking for a place to eat. There were other things wrong with the place that I did not mention in my review. Sanitation was questionable. One of the kitchen workers had black oil/grease all over both arms. It looked like he had just been working on a car engine.
