Getting to know you, got tagged by @iguessitsjustme and @karebear923 so better do it!
Do you make your bed?
Nope. I mean, I guess I kinda shake the blanket/sheet to spread it out but my doggo likes to burrow and that means all effort is futile.
What’s your favorite number?
Multiples of 5 make me happy. Any number ending with 5 or 0. Also even numbers to a lesser degree.
What is your job?
I am a parapro aka paraprofessional aka education support professional aka a one to one! I work with students with significant disabilities in order to help them attend, function and learn in a public school! I currently work in a K-3 room and was moved there specifically as a behavior support for the third grader who loves me. I love my job, I adore it, I also wanna throw the teacher and both damn BCBAs out a window.
If you could go back to school, would you?
Honestly? No. I love to learn but homework is basically where my executive function goes to die. As much as I like the idea of going back the reality would fuck me up something good.
Can you parallel park?
I can't drive so no.
A job you had that would surprise people?
I work at a zoo for over a decade in the children's zoo? Not actually shocking but at least a little odd. No, I wasn't a zookeeper.
Do you think aliens are real?
Frankly, I hope so.
Can you drive a manual car?
Still can't drive.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Why feel guilty about pleasure? Seem pointless. But also bad BLs and toxic BLs that just let themselves be toxic. Also pushing the poly agenda on shows.
(Also, kinda too real, I do feel guilty about the pleasure I take from MawinTinh and from being so excited about the boys in a GL show... but I still want more crumbs, please.)
Tattoos?
No.
Favorite color?
Turquoise or teal or anything in the green-blue family.
Favorite type of music?
Nerdy.
Do you like puzzles?
Not really, no.
Any phobias?
None that I feel like discussing, tbh.
Favorite childhood sport?
I did not do sports as a child unless under duress.
Do you talk to yourself?
At all times.
What movies do you adore?
Paranorman, the Mummy trilogy, Prince of Egypt, anything by Mel Brooks.
Coffee or tea?
Hot chocolate
First thing you wanted to be growing up?
Veterinarian followed by physical therapist which was first serious dream that I will never go for.
Do it if you want, tag me if you want, go ahead and enjoy!

chubby drables- SG Rat/chet
(Warning- force feeding, tube feeding, minor medical stuff). So, if anyone follows me or sees my posts, you know I am a big chub Rat/chet fan. But I will take this drabble in a different direction- in a couple different ways. First, our dear medic isn’t gonna get chubbed this time, and second…. while normal Rat/chet is a bit grumpy… what about Shatt/ered Gl/ass Rat/chet?
So, SG Rat/chet definitely has a mean streak that goes above and beyond grumpy. Yes, he is still a doctor, but he loves to experiment with new drugs, surgeries, and techniques- with or without patient consent. Come on, it’s in the name of medical advancement!
At least, that is what he tells his victim, anyway.
So, imagine a bot captured by the evil Auto/bots. Of course, I will pick Dri/ft in my scenario because I lack variety big time. Okay, a better choice would be Dead/lock. So, the gun mech is captured by the Auto/bots, and he wakes up on Rat/chet’s medical slab. His optics are wide, darting back and forth in fear, but he feels fine. He runs a diagnostic check, and everything seems in order.
He clambers off the slab and tries the door. Yeah. It’s locked. But don’t worry, Rat/chet soon enters. And he brings in a heaping meal. Naturally, Dead/lock questions the food, but the Doctor simply leaves it, and eventually, Dead/lock gets hungry enough to eat it.
The meals start out average size but eventually grow. And Rat/chet will be upset if the dish is not cleared. Dri/ft found that out the hard way. So, he clears the plates. And the meals keep getting bigger. Rat/chet joins him for the meal, not out of care and consideration, but to ensure the gunmech eats every crumb.
And when he does, he is rewarded with dessert. Sometimes, it’s sweet cherry pies fresh from the oven. Other times, it's moist cakes slathered with rich, sweet frosting and geode crumbles. And Dead/lock must eat every bite. And I am not talking about slices here: I’m talking about the entire pie/cake.
Naturally, the Decep/ticon’s once strong, slim frame grows soft and plump. First is his belly; it swells and droops over his hip plating. Then his thighs ballon out, puffing up nicely and rubbing against each other as he paces around his cell of a room. And yes, that aft grows thick, his arms expand, and his cheeks grow ever so cute and chubby.
And measurements kept getting logged. Dead/lock is subjected to having the Doctor wrap a measuring tape around his growing belly, thickening thighs, and round arms. Calipers are used to measure the deepness of his flab rolls. Every measurement is carefully recorded in detailed chart notes. Being the ever-professional, Rat/chet takes in-depth notes on the softness and squishiness of the chub, all taken by his hands.
But the day comes when Dead/lock sighs in relief at the regular-sized meal. But alas, Rat/chet demands the ‘Con to sit down. And once Dead/lock obeys, he is belted in. His hands are bound next to his sides, and try as he might, the gunmech cannot escape.
Rat/chet sneers a toothy grin as he sets a box beside his captive mech. First, he pulls out a jug of this pink liquid and slams it on the table. Then, a funnel. Finally, the tubing is fished from the box.
Dead/lock stares with wide optics as the Doctor connects the tubing to the funnel, then turns to his prey.
“Open up,” Rat/chet growls, but Dead/lock does not obey. “Open up voluntarily, or I will force you to open up.”
With much chagrin and fear, Dead/lock’s mouth opens, and the medic’s fingers are jammed inside, forcing those maws to open as wide as they can. The end of the tube is guided between teeth and shoved inside the throat. There is some resistance. Getting the tubing past the mech’s intakes was a challenge- at least while they were conscious.
“Swallow,” Rat/chet demands, and a second attempt is made. Same results. “Why must you make things harder for yourself, Dead/lock?” Without warning, that tube presses deeper, forcing its way past the spasming intake without any care in the world for the pain the plastic causes as it scrapes its way down. Dead/lock gags at the intrusion as the tube is fed down his throat until the funnel is just above his lips.
“There’s a good little pup.” Rat/chet coos, but not in kindness. “Now, there have been talks about how much a bot’s fuel tanks can hold. Many think it’s only a certain amount, no matter what. I think, with careful preparations, the chambers can hold much more.”
The cap to the jug was flicked off with a thumb. “I think it is time we found out. What do you think?” The jug is lifted, and Dead/lock's optics widen as he watches the liquid pour in. Thankfully, it’s just a little bit. And Dead/lock doesn’t even have to swallow for that pink fluid to fill his belly- it automatically slides down the tubing.
Once the funnel is drained, more is poured in. Rat/chet keenly logs how much liquid is consumed and compares it to the swell of the tummy. Measurements are taken, and the ever-so-reliable poke test is performed. This continues, but soon, Dead/lock’s belly is taunt and growling with pain. He moans in protest, but all that is heard is the whining, not the begging for the feeding to stop.
“We are almost done.” Rat/chet sharply states, lifting the jug once more, “We are at the point where other doctors claim is the max capacity. I beg to differ. And now, I can prove my theory is correct.”
Dead/lock’s optics well up with tears as he attempts to shake his helm no. However, Rat/chet is not persuaded to stop. Instead, he grins, looking at his captive in the optics.
“Don’t worry. I’m a Doctor,” The remaining liquid in the jug is poured in, and Rat/chet watches as it flows down the funnel. “If you do pop, I’ll be able to fix you up.”
All Dead/lock could do was clench his optics shut and wine as he felt his belly grow uncomfortably full, stretching past normal compacity

Random thoughts about Deep Night episode 5:
▪️ You know it could be considered unrealistic that Khem and Wela got back together so fast but I'm glad it didn't take too many episode. Khem apologize, Wela said what he wanted in this relationship and they are back again doing what they like best: kissing and sharing intimate time. These two are so into each other. They like to play dangerously because they get some thrill from being caught by others. I mean why not. As long as they are okay.
▪️ Of course, you can end up being really discovered by others and that's what happen to them because Ken saw them and thought about using this news to enforce the 5th golden rule. He said to Seiji that it was to give him his chance to be 1st one in the club but it backfired to him. I'm a bit sad the trouple didn't get nicer scenes between them. I feel Ken lost his chance to be with Seiji in this episode and I believe it was too soon. I wish Seiji was more torn between who to choose because Ken as Pan could give him something he is looking for in a relationship. I hope the series will prove me wrong but this episode wasn't the best one for them.
▪️ Khem' secret about being Madame Freya's son is out because people where starting to misunderstand him and it has to be revealed to avoid more misunderstanding. I never really thought it was his most brilliant idea to hide it but why not. It creates some drama. Now, everyone knows the truth (including his friend Pan who had no idea) and it will be easier when he will work for the club.
▪️ Now we kind of guess how all the issues with the police may not come from other clubs but from Khem and Freya's family. That's what I believe the trailer was about. This episode was my least favorite since the beginning of the series but it's a turning point so I truly believe next week will bring more!
▪️ We got again tiny crumbs of the GL couple. Not enough but a win is a win. They have the most stable relationship but we don't know, maybe they faced many hardships before. They don't give us enough to really understand everything.
I didn't have a lot to say today but Deep Night remains interesting.

WLW media plans <3 early 2023 edition
You may have seen my first edition of this post; now that 2023 has begun in earnest, let’s see where I’m at!
Media I’m currently in the middle of consuming:
The 100 (I know that I said that I wasn’t sure if I wanted to watch this show cuz I’m tired of tragic wlw, but a friend suggested we watch it together, so here I am)
Clear and Muddy Loss of Love (an AMAZING web-novel!!! I can’t stop reading it! Clear and Muddy Loss of Love, original title 泾渭情殇 (Jīng wèi qíng shāng or JWQS), is a Chinese GL web-novel by Please Don’t Laugh (请君莫笑). Read and buy the original here (here’s a guide on how to use JJWXC so you can support the author), and the English translation by melts (@meltesh28 on Tumblr / @meltsmelts on Twitter) can be found here (thank you so much for your hard work, melts!))
Nevertheless (solely for the crumbs of Sol/Ji-wan content, and you know what? It’s been worth it, even if the main male lead, Park Jae-eon, makes me want to throw my laptop across the room. Seriously, JAE-EON SUCKS SO BAD. NA-BI, WHAT ARE YOU DOIIIING. DO-HYEOK IS RIGHT. THERE!!!)
Warrior Nun (I started watching this show both because it has wlw AND because Alba Baptista is so gorgeous that I can’t stop looking at her. So disappointing that it was canceled recently :()
Media I plan to start (or continue) consuming:
A League of Their Own (for the canon wlw AND all the wlw vibes)
Arcane: League of Legends (I’ve seen enough gifs and fanart for Caitlyn/Vi that I ship it and haven’t even watched the show yet)
Batwoman (for the canon wlw AND all the wlw vibes)
Black Lightning (ditto)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BtVS was available on Amazon Prime for a while but is now on Hulu, so I don’t have access to it at the moment)
The Expanse (I’m taking a break from watching the show to read the books, but I’m also consuming a lot of other media at the moment, so I don’t know when I’ll get back to it)
The Half of It (the premise sounds so freaking relatable I can’t wait to feel some type of way about the constant sapphic pining I experienced in high school & didn’t even know about at the time because of comphet yay)
The Handmaiden (I’ve been trying to get into more international media lately, as you can see by some of the other pieces of media in this post, and this movie looks too good to pass up)
Killing Eve (up to the finale but stopping before the end cuz my queer little heart can’t take YET MORE bury your gays in the year of our lord 2023. also the book series. maybe)
The Legend of Korra (once I finish ATLA)
The Owl House (currently waiting for the next episode. Also, I’m still so mad this show was canceled by Disney >:()
Paper Girls (science fiction combined with middle-grade fiction and queer characters? Sign me up!)
Sense8 (for the queer vibes in general)
The Wilds (for the canon wlw AND all the wlw vibes)
Yellowjackets (ditto)
Media I might consume but haven’t decided yet:
Huge shout-out to @femslashrevolution (abbreviated as F.R. in this post from now on) for introducing me to a lot of these pieces of media with active-ish wlw fandoms through their reblogs!
Astrid & Lilly Save the World (I don’t know much about it, but the gifs reblogged by F.R. look promising)
Harlem (I’ve heard mixed reviews about the wlw representation in this show, but there’s also a distinct lack of black queer shows out there, so I’m considering trying it out anyway)
House of the Dragon (partially because I haven’t finished GOT yet, but also because I don’t want my heart to be broken by the tragedy)
I Know What You Did Last Summer (this show doesn’t have the best reviews, but the actresses in it are so pretty that I might watch it anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Kevin Can F*** Himself (seems like an interesting premise, I just don’t know if I’ll personally enjoy the show itself or not)
Legends of Tomorrow (Idk what it’s even about tbh, I’ve just seen a lot of wlw-centric and wlw-adjacent gifs reblogged by F.R.)
Lost Girl (it's included on a lot of rec lists of wlw shows, I just don’t know if I’ll actually find it interesting)
Once Upon A Time (a classic wlw fandom, but Idk if I’ll find it interesting enough to actually watch it)
Orange is the New Black (ditto)
Orphan Black (ditto)
Runaways (ditto)
Supergirl (ditto)
Willow (Idk what it’s even about tbh, I’ve just seen some cute wlw gifs reblogged by F.R. recently, so why not?)
Media I've already finished consuming:
Couple of Mirrors (SO GOOD!!! A (sadly heavily censored, but still very well-done) GL-based Chinese drama that is slated to get a second season depending on the support, so please go watch and support it! It also has a manhua (read the original here and the English summaries here))
First Kill (campy with pretty horrid music choices, but I still enjoyed the watching experience even though the show was kinda bad. Who doesn’t like a little bit of camp every now and again?)
Girlfriend Project Day 1 (cute, short little fake dating GL K-drama that is slated to get a second season if they can raise the funds for it! Watch it here)
More than or Equal to 75 Celsius (≥75°C) (short GL K-drama, very aesthetic, and the actresses are beautiful! Watch it here)
Zero Photography (short spin-off GL Thai drama that features Ink & Pa from the bigger BL series Bad Buddy. Definitely worth the watch!)
Have I missed any must-watch/must-read/must-consume pieces of wlw or wlw-adjacent media that y’all love? Please let me know in the reblogs and give me your recommendations!

time for me to gather all my thoughts together!
out of the 15 announced series, i am - to various degrees - interested in 10, which is a pretty solid amount!
i will definitely be watching:
we are! it's yet another uni drama, but you know what? i don't give a shit. i like me a uni drama. pondphuwin are definitely the mains, with satangwinny either being a secondary couple or also mains - it is not entirely clear from the trailer. my vote is always for marcpawin, who are playing a background couple here along with aouboom. so a very solid cast for me. incredible news.
my love mix-up! i adore kieta hatsukoi, i adore fourth, i adore gemini. feels like a recipe for success to me.
wandee goodday! a bl about actual fucking adults? wow. sign me up right away please. i am not familiar with the main actors, but thor is a part of a secondary couple, and podd is also there, so that's great.
my golden blood! GAWIN as a main character? gawin with JOSS? joss is a VAMPIRE? i want it NOW. like TODAY. exciting af!
pluto! seems like a very dramatic gl with many twists and turns, i am also very excited.
the other five series i am unsure of, for different reasons:
ossan's love th. it's actually likely i will end up watching it, but i (shock horror) haven't actually seen ossan's love, and i feel like i can't say that i will or will not be watching it with as much certainty as those who have seen the original. i will definitely get to it at some point soon though. if i like the original, i'll watch the thai version too.
the trainee. at the moment, i don't feel necessarily excited for this series, so whether i watch it or not will depend on either me having enough free time when it will be coming out to just kind of casually enjoy it, or people really raving about it while it's already coming out and me deciding to spend time on it because of that.
kidnap. pretty much the same exact situation as the trainee. did not grip my attention that much, but we will see if that changes. there is, of course, also the chance that the real trailers for either of the two will change my mind. mock trailers can be a bit clumsy sometimes.
only boo. it did not particularly intrigue me and - unlike the trainee and kidnap - the leads cannot recommend me the series just by virtue of being themselves, because i don't know them. so i am even less inclined than i am with the trainee, knowing how great offgun's chemistry is, and kidnap, because... well, ohm. if something convinces me to watch this - i will. otherwise, it's a pass.
high school frenemy. is it deep platonic love or do they want to stick their tongues down each other's throats? the second i know for sure, the decision will be made. in which direction, i'm sure you can imagine.
some random thoughts:
leads of the series that are coming out right now are clearly taking a little break after this (some of them do have prior comittments for series that haven't come out yet, but from what i remember - it is all secondary/background roles). this makes sense, especially because this is just part 1 of the announcement. so, i'm waiting for whatever news we will get from neo, mark, first, khaotung, force, book, perth, and chimon later.
considering the previous point, i can only Really be mad about the noticeable lack of fluke pusit. my man is clearly in the basement. oh, and aj and jj, who are only playing a background role in one of the series. there is actually a fucking series, where the characters are twins, and they cast ONE GUY to play BOTH, when they have literal fucking twins in their casting pool. wild.
my one real complaint is that i'm getting marcpawin crumbs once again. and i don't mean to anger the gods, because crumbs are better than nothing, but when am i going to fucking get the full loaf of bread? i deserve it. they deserve it. p l e a s e. generally, they seem to still be reluctant about giving current secondary couples the main stage, because satangwinny are either mains along with pondphuwin, or potentially even secondary to them in the drama. let them shine on their own please :(

For the drama ask: 7, 12 and 13
7. if you could change the ending of a drama which one would it be?
oof, there's so many! let me choose a drama that I actually loved bc one that I don't is kind of the easy way out lol. I'd change the ending of 3 will be free so ter isn't killed & mae's trauma isn't provoked just so she can rescue the main three characters. I'd have shin kill his father bc it's much more meaningful & powerful this way, and I'd also have him move permanently on the island with mew & neo instead of going back and forth. also mae & ter would leave the country and heal peacefully together :)
Tumblr media
12. an actor/actress you want to see in a lead role
what a loaded question! I'll get it out of my system, yes of course I want to see off in a main role in a show that isn't bl, isn't an ensemble cast & is actually good bc all of his non offgun related roles never take off & it's pissing me off lol.
Tumblr media
the next obvious choice is mond, but this one I honestly feel even more strongly about bc this man is literally one of the most beautiful men on earth AND talented as fuck & he literally gets nothing but crumbs from gmmtv.
Tumblr media
lay talay bc he's kinda dropped off the surface of the earth lately & I think that's a crime, my dream would be for him to join gmmtv even though I doubt they'd give him a main role, but at least I'd get to see more of him :(
Tumblr media
give drake a new main bl please, I can't believe he ate the most ever in my tee yet bc the writing of it was shit it flopped & since then he's gotten no other good role ever, like... fucking rude 😠
Tumblr media
fluke pusit bc he's literally so fucking good I love him, and if he got a main bl role he'd 100% become huge, I can feel it!
Tumblr media
lastly for the actors or we'll be here forever, we have earth pirapat & first, who are both actors I've loved for a long ass time but I've kinda lost some interest for once they became caged into their current ships. I like both ships, especially firstkhao, but I feel like since getting with their ships they've completely lost their identity as individual actors, and in my opinion it's a generalized problem with the new generation of gmmtv ships, but it especially bothers me for first & earth bc I KNOW how amazing they are & feel they could do both ship work AND slay some individual works.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as for the actresses, we all know they're all so fucking underrated & I stan literally every single one of them, but also bc there's much less of them than male actors, they often get main roles more easily, so I don't have as many to mention.
firstly there is jennie, who is always put in side roles but would actually SLAY a good romcom! also it would be incredible representation to have a romance with a trans woman who's not played by a cis actress (*cough* the fallen leaf I'm looking at you *cough*)
Tumblr media
then there's ciize who just deserves the spotlight imo. she's adorable, seasoned & a good actress, and I think she'd make for a very new type of female lead in dramas that I'd really love to see!
Tumblr media
lastly there's the love of my life, lookjun. technically she got a main lead in the jungle which gives me hope for the future, but it was an ensemble cast show so it doesn't count. I want her in a full show bc I think she's amazing & has the charisma to carry it!!! (also pls she's literally had 3 wlw side ships now GIVE HER A GL!!!)
Tumblr media
13. popular actor/actress you feel nothing for
literally almost all of them LMAO. I'm not a big fan of zee & nunew, I don't really like jimmy from gmmtv for some reason, I don't like mew & gulf AT ALL for obvious reasons & I don't care for mile & apo bc I didn't watch their show. there's many more but those were out of the top of my head.
xxx
participate in the ask game :)

Hello, hello!! It's me, your favorite graduate, back with a burning question! ;)
I am in the middle of episode 11 of Why R U? (literally paused in the middle of it because I am WAY too invested in FighterTutor and am seriously dreading what is coming) - what a messy, cringey show. There are so many freaking characters, and my question is inspired by one that I have come to love, Kae. He is Tutor's boss at the bakery, and after he (bravely, in IRL standards) confronts Fighter's dad I realized just how much I appreciated his character and how annoyed I am that the show couldn't cut down its cabal of unnecessary characters to focus on more interesting ones. Not only is he an astonishingly great example (for a BL!!) of a queer "elder" in the community - he protects Tutor from creepy customers, gives him a job when he needs one and looks for help when he needs more work, is working-class himself, and tries to give advice to this lonely queer kid he's taken under his wing - he also seems to be a rare less-stereotypical portrayal of a Thai person with darker skin (if not the only, honestly, in my limited experience watching these shows).
So! My question is, are there any side characters or even guest characters (like Kae is billed as) who you wish had been given more latitude or importance in the plot/story of a BL?
OMG what a great question. YES SO MANY. Let me see if I can come up with a top 10. Does it have to be individuals? Can I pick a few couples (I won’t go too far because therein lies madness)?
Top 10 Side Characters I Wish We Got More Screen Time
In no particular order.
Tumblr media
1. Touch & Daisy in Secret Crush On You
Is anyone surprised by this choice?
Tumblr media
2. Choi Yu Na, JaeYeong’s bisexual bestie in Semantic Error
She was just... so effortlessly cool. Do I need to say more?
Tumblr media
3. TulHin in Love By Chance 2
I LOVE THEM, OKAY. Classic whipping boy, my goddamn catnip. And these two actors had amazing chemistry. Ae’s whole arc and character should have been dropped from this script in favor of more time with these truly damaged goods. Yes, I said it. Sorry Perth.
AND ALSO
Tumblr media
4. Keen in Love By Chance 2
Can’t believe I chose multiples from MAME trash but heh, whatever is necessary for the truth right? Basically this show needed a massive rewrite, but it could have been done.
That’s what’s so frustrating about MAME’s stuff, it’s so close to being amazing...  It’s like this fantastic 5 course meal but you will be barfing at some point. Maybe the end? Maybe the middle? Maybe multiple times? It’s a regurgitation surprise!
Tumblr media
5. Fong the Philosopher in Still 2gether
Khaotung is untaped genius at physical comedy. I love him in this role SO HARD. I think we got a lot from him in season one, but I wanted more in season 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. PokeTongue in Gen Y 2 & What Zabb Man
Look we all know that during Gen Y 2 they were actually pretending to be in some other show. And frankly, we all would have rather been watching that show. Then they got given an actual other show and we STILL wanted more of them.
Tumblr media
7. ChampDoc in TharnType 2
I take the 5th.
Tumblr media
8. Beer in Oxygen
I just wanna look at James but he’s getting his own series (Bed Friends) so I’m okay now.
Tumblr media
9. Sky & Pai in La Cuisine
Talk about crumbs. What? I mean WHAT WAS THAT? They had these two in their back pocket all along and DIDN’T use them? WHAT?
Tumblr media
10. VegasPete in KinnPorsche
Oh I fucking said it. You were all thinking it from ep 10 on, weren’t you? Why the hell didn't this start in ep 5? Vegas was entirely unnecessary as a love interest for Porsche. It would have been fine, no BETTER, if Porsche & Vegas had developed as a friendship and Vegas had NOTICED Pete in a significant way much earlier.*
* Don’t comment on this. I’m not interested in this weird KP fandom imaginary-connection muck-wanking thing you’re all AO3ing all over Tumblr like a bad rash. And I could not care less about the original y-novel.
Honorable Mention
All the GLs that should have had more screen time like the cuties in Meow Ears Up, InkPa in Bad Buddy, and Friend Zone 2, and I could keep going.
Tumblr media
The angry roommate ex lover in Love Class. I just really loved the actor and was very intrigued by the character. We could have spent much less time exploring the stalker story and more time with this boy and still kept the dumb sort KBL length. All in all, the weight of this narrative was all over the place but not using this character to the fullest was a problem.
The two besties of the seme in Mr Unlucky, SO CUTE.
The nerdy support boy who knows what it’s like to be gay and the artsy girl with serious self defense skills from Blueming.
The whole university friendship group that *almost* happened in Cherry Blossoms After Winter.
Tim in My Secret Love, preferably shirtless.
Nutch in Not Me.
Mew the ex boyfriend in Together With Me. I don’t know what they were doing with his character. And they didn’t either. But ho boy was he EASY on the eyes. So easy. I mean it takes work to pull attention away from MaxTul and he had ALL MY ATTENTION.
And (drum roll please) . . .
Tumblr media
K.O. & HAO MEI (Love O2O)
I will die on this tiny hill of censored bromance. More of them would have substantially improved this show.
I'm not picking shows that couldn’t be saved.
So I love KhunKaow in Brothers and CopyNampu in Top Secret Together and SanAei in You’re My Sky, Saint in Our Days, Jun in Love Area 2, but I don't think more of them could have save their respective shows because then it would have been MORE terrible show to watch. I call these the "I'm your huckleberry" awards. I give one each year to the couple that was the only good thing in an otherwise irredeemable show. Like Val Kilmer in Tombstone (bite me).
Tumblr media
Current as of Aug 2022, there are a bunch airing right now that could make this list.

CONSIDER
(I’m assuming this was made before Shotaro and Sungchan joined, so I’ll add them to houses 5 and 3 respectively)
House 1: Taeyong, Ten, Jungwoo, and they’re all giving the silent treatment
Pros:
- you can basically do whatever you want if they aren’t talking to you
- you’ve got Taeyong so the house will be nice and clean, and you can experience his holy cooking
- Taeyong and Ten mean you’ll have fish and cats to hang out with
- it’s never a boring day when Ten and Jungwoo, NCT’s confident gays, are in the same room
- imagine the gossip between these three that you can just listen in on
Cons:
- not bad for you, per se, but Louis and Leon mean those fish might not last too long
- Jungwoo’s probably gonna have a weird ass sleeping setup with the members like his current room with Jaehyun. Again not really bad, just weird.
- you can’t talk to them because they’re giving you the silent treatment
- no fruit if Ten’s there
Loophole: it wasn’t specified how long they’d be giving you the silent treatment for
House 2: Kun, Hendery, Jaemin, but you can only communicate by shouting as loud as you can
Pros:
- pure chaos
- Kun can cook and keep people alive; Hendery and Jaemin cannot
- waking up early won’t be a problem because you won’t be sleeping in the first place
- you finally have a good reason to buy those nice sound cancelling headphones you wanted
Cons:
- pure chaos
- I’ll give it three days for Kun to completely go insane
- between Hendery’s chaotic self and Jaemin’s espresso shots nobody’s getting any sleep ever
- those sound cancelling headphones won’t even work though because MinDery are too loud
Loophole: ha good luck there isn’t one
House 3: Doyoung, WinWin, Jeno, Sungchan, but the smoke alarm is on low battery and is beeping the whole time
Pros:
- seukka seukka
- Doyoung can keep the house clean
- WinWin would probably do chores out of boredom too
- Jeno will probably make beeping noises right with the smoke alarm, so at least it’ll be funny
- Sungchan can experience firsthand Doyoung’s wrath. Wait... is this a pro or a con??
Cons:
- until you’ve been kept up at night by a chirping smoke alarm, you have not felt true pain and suffering
- WinWin will probably cut all his hair off by the time quarantine is over. He’s barely got any sanity left please let him keep the crumbs he still has
- Doyoung may keep the house clean but he gets angry
- Sungchan’s tall enough to fix the alarm but bold of you to assume he knows how
Loophole: gl
House 4: Taeil, Lucas, Xiaojun, Chenle, but the only food is plain toast
Pros:
- Lucas came up with the idea of having different varieties of drinks to replace to blandness of having plain toast everyday
- Taeil, Chenle and Lucas are total party animals so no day would be boring
- Xiaojun and Chenle means you get Bella and Daegal too
- since you can only eat toast, Xiaojun can’t make his questionable oreo microwave cake
Cons:
- Chenle’s gonna lose it and cut Daegal’s hair again, save her
- Bella better watch out in case Chenle comes for her next
- Chef Moon Taeil is quaking because all they can eat is toast
- You just can’t let Haechan know you were spending time with Daegal because he will end you
- the house will probably be a mess since Taeil is part of the 10th floor and Xiaojun and Lucas are part of the WayV dorms. And Chenle
- Bella’s gonna pee on the floor again and Xiaojun will have had enough at that point and leave the house to go join the goose mafia
Loophole: the toast has to be plain, which I’d assume means you can’t have anything on it. Nothing mentions the kind of toast. You got wheat toast, white toast, rye toast, etc.
House 5: Yuta, Mark, Renjun, Jisung, Shotaro, but the house is super haunted
Pros:
- Mark freestyle rapping while everyone else is screaming and getting chased around by evil spirits
- Yuta would tell scary ghost stories to freak everyone out but you’d probably cackle at Mark’s scared face. “I- I’m not scared, dude. Nah, yo”
- Taro’s safe because nobody can get angry at his cuteness and he’s too pure to be haunted by anything. The spirits love him
- Mark and Jisung are banned from the kitchen, so no house fires unless Renjun snaps
- Yuta’s just vibing and here for the ride honestly
Cons:
- Who tf was cruel enough to put Jisung in the haunted house group?? Boy gets scared so easily
- Renjun would realize the house is haunted and be like “please take them”
- if he doesn’t kill the other members himself out of rage
- honestly you’ll walk into the living room to catch him sitting by a pentagram and candles with Jisung as a sacrifice
Loophole: hehe good luck :)
House 6: Johnny, Jaehyun, Haechan, YangYang, but there’s no internet/tv/video games
Pros:
- Johnny’s jokes
- experience Jaehyun’s unbothered (• ◡ •) ?? look in all its glory
- Johnny, YangYang and Haechan could be screaming at the top of their lungs meanwhile Jaehyun’s just looking into some imaginary camera like he’s on the office, mentally sipping a margarita thousands of miles away on some tropical beach and you will laugh your ass off
- just lots of laughs and probably pranks
Cons:
- could Haechan and YangYang actually survive that long without internet?? Nah
- I mean they could but it would be at the expense of everyone else’s safety and sanity
- pretty sure these four could be considered a frat
- have fun being trapped in a house with four bored extroverts for who knows how long
- you’ll slowly go insane
Loophole: no video games? Play monopoly and watch Jaehyun’s competitive ego crumble as Haechan takes control of half the board
I’d probably choose house 1, 2, or 6. 1 because my ult bias is there, and so are his cats, and cats bring serotonin. 2 because who needs sleep when you have fun, screaming and coffee?? 6 because come on. Those four members stuck in a house with no internet has some comedic possibilities.

(GL/Yuri) Shoujo Heroine… and Friends Chapter 1
Tumblr media
It's heeeeeeeeere! Please comment your thoughts and like it if you, well, like it.
Rated: T
Fandom: Original story
Relationship type: F/F with some F/M
Description:
Sahana is friendly, innocent and optimistic, making her the perfect shoujo anime heroine… except she’s not the main character of this story.
When school prince Toyomi asks her out, she starts hanging out with him and leaves her friends behind. Prim and proper Masami and tomboyish slob Kunie don’t seem to have much in common outside of their friendship with Sahana, but they try to make the best out of a lonely situation.
So why is the god of love and marriage watching them, red string of fate at the ready? CONTENT WARNING: Some homophobic language and bullying.
Chapter 1: I guess we’re friends
Sahana was one of those kids who smiled more than she should. Yes, even when surrounded by five girls whose glares screamed, ‘He’s ours!’
She was going to be doubly late if the girls didn’t leave her alone, so naturally, she finished the now cold toast in her hand. No way was she going to risk choking to death by running to school with it in her mouth.
This would be the time when I’d tell you about how she was an ordinary girl who somehow got whisked off to a magical land or something. You know, ordinary except for the bright pink hair in short pigtails and the gigantic blue eyes that I could compare to some gemstone. Yeah, no. I mean, for one thing, this isn’t a fantasy story. Also, she isn’t our main character.
A girl with a bright red ponytail and matching eyes sprinted to Sahana and used her arms as a barrier between her and her bullies.
‘Back off before I cook your intestines and feed them to my dog,’ she said in the voice of a noblewoman. You know the voice.
One of the girls claimed that such a threat didn’t scare them, but they all took a few steps back at the exact same time, stopping when one of them bumped into someone. This time it was a tall and thin but muscular girl with short blonde hair and icy blue eyes.
‘Now, Masami, that’s a bit extreme,’ she said to the redhead, her voice deep and slightly hoarse. ‘I doubt your dog would want to eat these girls’ intestines. Don’t be so cruel to him.’
The girls ran as far as they could, then turned around and headed to where they were supposed to go.
‘You guys didn’t have to do that,’ Sahana said in a sweet, high-pitched voice, looking up at these girls who were much taller than her. ‘But thanks!’
Masami and the blonde girl enveloped Sahana in a bone-crushingly tight hug. It didn’t take long for Sahana to notice the crumbs on the blonde-haired girl’s face, which gave her an excellent opportunity to namedrop the character. Thank you, Sahana, for making my job easier.
‘Were you running late too, Kunie?’
Masami let go of Sahana and crossed her arms. ‘She was eating breakfast in the classroom. Honestly! Crumbs everywhere! I was just about to tell her off when I heard one of those girls badmouth you.’
Kunie yawned and stretched her arms. ‘Whatever. Sorry I don’t have a butler serve me a three-course meal every morning and wipe my face with banknotes.’
‘I don’t either! That’s no excuse! Honestly, you are so….’ Masami and Kunie looked at Sahana with apologetic eyes and Masami coughed until her word disappeared. ‘Anyway, what caused you to be late?’
Sahana dropped her smile and furrowed her eyebrows. ‘When I woke up and looked through my window, I realised that my drapes don’t match my carpet.’ Masami covered her mouth to stop herself from doing what Kunie was openly doing: laughing. Sahana continued. ‘I wonder if I should dye my carpet to match the drapes. What do you think?’ Kunie started wheezing. ‘What’s wrong? Did I say something weird?’
Kunie patted her shoulder. ‘You’ll find out when you’re older.’
Sahana pouted because of course she did. Whenever she does this I kind of want to pinch her chubby cheeks, not going to lie.
‘I’m the same age as you,’ she murmured before returning to her smiling state. ‘Hey, do you know where Toyomi is? He messaged me about how he wants to talk to me about something.’
Before getting an answer from either friend, she heard trumpets and turned around. I don’t know where they came from either. That’s Benzaiten’s realm.
Whatever the answer may be, what’s important is that the trumpets signalled the arrival of Toyomi. Toyomi with the peacock-blue hair in a bob and oceanic eyes. Toyomi with the smile that made those miniature oceans look warmer. Toyomi with the hordes of fangirls who looked at each other like snipers preparing to shoot.
With a flick of the wrist he held out his hand and Sahana graciously took it. Well then, I guess she really did get whisked away, just to a secluded spot so he could recite a poem he had written for her. He also handed her a little bag of chocolates he had made, which she immediately began eating.
‘Would you like to go out with me?’ he asked her with soft eyes and a saccharine voice.
‘Of course!’ Sahana answered with pink cheeks and a grin that could melt the paint off a door.
Toyomi jumped up and clapped quickly. ‘Thank you! I knew that manga was right. I got to your heart through your stomach.’
The two held hands and stared at each other in a way that passers-by would have found weird but was perfect for them.
Now let’s get back to the actual protagonist of this story. After heading back into the classroom, Masami smoothed her knee-length skirt behind her as she sat in her seat. Unlike Sahana, her seat was at the front of the classroom rather than near the back by the window. Kunie took the middle seat at the very back, completely opposite to Masami. She sat with her legs open, a certain region only just covered by her short skirt, and picked her ear.
A girl from another class entered the room and handed Kunie a letter with a crown sticker on the front. Before Kunie could respond, the girl zipped out of there.
Our protagonist scowled at the empty food packets on Kunie’s desk. She had no clue why anyone would want to go near that desk without a vacuum cleaner. Fair enough.
Kunie read the letter and sighed. A petit girl with long, wavy, light golden brown hair leaned towards her from her seat next to her. She wore a smirk that made it increasingly difficult for Kunie not to groan.
‘I’m sensing a pattern here. Maybe if you showed an interest in Prince Toyomi, this wouldn’t keep happening. Honestly, how many lezzos are in this school anyway?’
Kunie shrugged. ‘You tell me. You seem to be the expert, Dooru.’
The girl looked at her like she had just been accused of throwing a baby into a river. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
‘Then again, I guess a prince and a prince don’t go together. I mean, can you imagine it?’
Kunie slammed her hands against her desk. ‘I’m not a prince!’ she yelled.
Dooru snickered. ‘Sure, your highness. I will ignore the love letter on your desk, my liege.’
Before Kunie could respond, the trumpets returned and Toyomi took his seat, followed by Sahana and eventually the teacher.
Masami actually, no, really, actually clicked her tongue in scorn as she looked at the clock. Ten minutes and thirty-two seconds late. Miss Date ran her fingers through her oily red hair and breathed a sigh of relief.
Another click of the tongue from Masami. Any more and her tongue was bound to hurt. ‘Um, excuse me, Miss Date, may I ask why you are so-’
‘That’s Ukiwa to you,’ the teacher said with a grin and finger guns.
I apologise. Ukiwa opened the roll book and called everyone’s names. Masami noticed a hickey peeking out from behind the teacher’s shirt collar.
Masami reached under her desk for her pencil case but felt plastic wrap. She pulled out a bag of cookies and a tiny teddy bear. She didn’t even have to look at the tag to know who it was from.
She turned her head and saw Fumie, a thin and frail-looking girl who wore her mint hair with violet tips in high pigtails. She had eyes of different colours, one matching the top of her hair and the other matching the tips. A cross hung from her neck. The girl had a hopeful face and one thumb up. Masami saw her clean desk and smiled at her. When she turned back around, she noticed other students holding bags of cookies.
When lunch arrived, Sahana bowed her head and held her hands up as if praying. ‘I’ll hang out with you guys next time, I swear! I just want to have some alone time with Toyomi.’
Masami and Kunie were about to respond but Sahana and Toyomi had already disappeared by that point. All they could do was look at each other and shrug.
They both took their lunch to Sahana’s desk and giggled. ‘I guess we should go somewhere else this time,’ Kunie said.
They sat at Kunie’s desk because Masami refused to let Kunie dirty hers. Masami held up her bento box rather than attempting to fit it on the tiny rubbish-free space on Kunie’s desk. They ate lunch quietly, Masami picking her own brain for a topic of conversation.
All she could contribute was, ‘So, uh, it’s kind of weird, isn’t it? How we haven’t hung out by ourselves before.’
Kunie nodded, swallowing the piece of fish in her mouth before continuing. ‘Yeah. I mean, we’re supposed to be friends, right?’
‘Yeah, I guess we’re friends.’ Masami almost corrected her blunder but she kept her mouth shut in case she made another.
Now I know what it’s like to pray to the gods and hear nothing but silence.
As if answering my own prayers, eventually the trumpets returned and Toyomi sauntered in the classroom, followed by Sahana. Gitan, a stocky boy with messy black hair and a tan, sneered at the peacockish boy with the glowing face.
‘Finally got yourself a boyfriend?’ he asked.
Toyomi gave him a smile. ‘I’m not sure I understand your question. Why would I want a boyfriend? I already have a girlfriend and I don’t like boys that way. But thank you for caring about me!’
Gitan rolled his eyes, muttered some slurs under his breath and turned in his seat towards Masami and Kunie, grinning when Sahana grabbed a chair and sat in between them. He took a pencil and sketched Masami and Sahana holding hands between their chests and looking into each other’s eyes. In reality, they were simply sitting and talking.
‘So what did you get up to without me?’ Sahana asked her friends, who shrugged in perfect unison.

It was the first time Thomas had actually liked hearing something come out of Alby’s mouth.
The short guy who’d been referred to as a Med-jack—Clint, if the spectator had been correct—stood up from his examination. “She seems fine. Breathing okay, normal heartbeat. Though it’s a bit slow. Your guess is as good as mine, but I’d say she’s in a coma. Jeff, let’s take her to the Homestead.”
His partner, Jeff, stepped over to grab her by the arms while Clint took hold of her feet. Thomas wished he could do more than watch—with every passing second, he doubted more and more that what he’d said earlier was true. She did seem familiar; he felt a connection to her, though it was impossible to grasp in his mind. The idea made him nervous, and he looked around, as if someone might’ve heard his thoughts.
“On the count of three,” Jeff, the taller Med-jack, was saying, his tall frame looking ridiculous bent in half, like a praying mantis. “One … two … three!”
They lifted her with a quick jerk, almost throwing her up in the air—she was obviously a lot lighter than they’d thought—and Thomas almost shouted at them to be more careful.
“Guess we’ll have to see what she does,” Jeff said to no one in particular. “We can feed her soupy stuff if she doesn’t wake up soon.”
“Just watch her closely,” Newt said. “Must be something special about her or they wouldn’t have sent her here.”
Thomas’s gut clenched. He knew that he and the girl were connected somehow. They’d come a day apart, she seemed familiar, he had a consuming urge to become a Runner despite learning so many terrible things…. What did it all mean?
Alby leaned over to look in her face once more before they carried her off. “Put her next to Ben’s room, and keep a watch on her day and night. Nothin’ better happen without me knowing about it. I don’t care if she talks in her sleep or takes a klunk—you come tell me.”
“Yeah,” Jeff muttered; then he and Clint shuffled off to the Homestead, the girl’s body bouncing as they went, and the other Gladers finally started to talk about it, scattering as theories bubbled through the air.
Thomas watched all this in mute contemplation. This strange connection he felt wasn’t his alone. The not-so-veiled accusations thrown at him only a few minutes before proved that the others suspected something, too, but what? He was already completely confused—being blamed for things only made him feel worse. As if reading his thoughts, Alby walked over and grabbed him by the shoulder.
“You ain’t never seen her before?” he asked.
Thomas hesitated before he answered. “Not … no, not that I remember.” He hoped his shaky voice didn’t betray his doubts. What if he did know her somehow? What would that mean?
“You’re sure?” Newt prodded, standing right behind Alby.
“I … no, I don’t think so. Why are you grilling me like this?” All Thomas wanted right then was for night to fall, so he could be alone, go to sleep.
Alby shook his head, then turned back to Newt, releasing his grip on Thomas’s shoulder. “Something’s whacked. Call a Gathering.”
He said it quietly enough that Thomas didn’t think anyone else heard, but it sounded ominous. Then the leader and Newt walked off, and Thomas was relieved to see Chuck coming his way.
“Chuck, what’s a Gathering?”
He looked proud to know the answer. “It’s when the Keepers meet—they only call one when something weird or terrible happens.”
“Well, I guess today fits both of those categories pretty well.” Thomas’s stomach rumbled, interrupting his thoughts. “I didn’t finish my breakfast—can we get something somewhere? I’m starving.”
Chuck looked up at him, his eyebrows raised. “Seeing that chick wig out made you hungry? You must be more psycho than I thought.”
Thomas sighed. “Just get me some food.”
The kitchen was small but had everything one needed to make a hearty meal. A big oven, a microwave, a dishwasher, a couple of tables. It seemed old and run-down but clean. Seeing the appliances and the familiar layout made Thomas feel as if memories—real, solid memories—were right on the edge of his mind. But again, the essential parts were missing—names, faces, places, events. It was maddening.
“Take a seat,” Chuck said. “I’ll get you something—but I swear this is the last time. Just be glad Frypan isn’t around—he hates it when we raid his fridge.”
Thomas was relieved they were alone. As Chuck fumbled about with dishes and things from the fridge, Thomas pulled out a wooden chair from a small plastic table and sat down. “This is crazy. How can this be for real? Somebody sent us here. Somebody evil.”
Chuck paused. “Quit complaining. Just accept it and don’t think about it.”
“Yeah, right.” Thomas looked out a window. This seemed a good time to bring up one of the million questions bouncing through his brain. “So where does the electricity come from?”
“Who cares? I’ll take it.”
What a surprise, Thomas thought. No answer.
Chuck brought two plates with sandwiches and carrots over to the table. The bread was thick and white, the carrots a sparkling, bright orange. Thomas’s stomach begged him to hurry; he picked up his sandwich and started devouring it.
“Oh, man,” he mumbled with a full mouth. “At least the food is good.”
Thomas was able to eat the rest of his meal without another word from Chuck. And he was lucky that the kid didn’t feel like talking, because despite the complete weirdness of everything that had happened within Thomas’s known reach of memory, he felt calm again. His stomach full, his energy replenished, his mind thankful for a few moments of silence, he decided that from then on he’d quit whining and deal with things.
After his last bite, Thomas sat back in his chair. “So, Chuck,” he said as he wiped his mouth with a napkin. “What do I have to do to become a Runner?”
“Not that again.” Chuck looked up from his plate, where he’d been picking at the crumbs. He let out a low, gurgly burp that made Thomas cringe.
“Alby said I’d start my trials soon with the different Keepers. So, when do I get a shot with the Runners?” Thomas waited patiently to get some sort of actual information from Chuck.
Chuck rolled his eyes dramatically, leaving no doubt as to how stupid an idea he thought that would be. “They should be back in a few hours. Why don’t you ask them?”
Thomas ignored the sarcasm, digging deeper. “What do they do when they get back every night? What’s up with the concrete building?”
“Maps. They meet right when they get back, before they forget anything.”
Maps? Thomas was confused. “But if they’re trying to make a map, don’t they have paper to write on while they’re out there?” Maps. This intrigued him more than anything else he’d heard in a while. It was the first thing suggesting a potential solution to their predicament.
“Of course they do, but there’s still stuff they need to talk about and discuss and analyze and all that klunk. Plus”—the boy rolled his eyes—”they spend most of their time running, not writing. That’s why they’re called Runners.“
Thomas thought about the Runners and the maps. Could the Maze really be so massively huge that even after two years they still hadn’t found a way out? It seemed impossible. But then, he remembered what Alby said about the moving walls. What if all of them were sentenced to live here until they died?
Sentenced. The word made him feel a rush of panic, and the spark of hope the meal had brought him fizzled with a silent hiss.
“Chuck, what if we’re all criminals? I mean—what if we’re murderers or something?”
“Huh?” Chuck looked up at him as if he were a crazy person. “Where did that happy thought come from?”
“Think about it. Our memories are wiped. We live inside a place that seems to have no way out, surrounded by bloodthirsty monster-guards. Doesn’t that sound like a prison to you?” As he said it out loud, it sounded more and more possible. Nausea trickled into his chest.
“I’m probably twelve years old, dude.” Chuck pointed to his chest. “At the most, thirteen. You really think I did something that would send me to prison for the rest of my life?”
“I don’t care what you did or didn’t do. Either way, you have been sent to a prison. Does this seem like a vacation to you?” Oh, man, Thomas thought. Please let me be wrong.
Chuck thought for a moment. “I don’t know. It’s better than—”
“Yeah, I know, living in pile of klunk.” Thomas stood up and pushed his chair back under the table. He liked Chuck, but trying to have an intelligent conversation with him was impossible. Not to mention frustrating and irritating. “Go make yourself another sandwich—I’m going exploring. See ya tonight.”
He stepped out of the kitchen and into the courtyard before Chuck could offer to join him. The Glade had gone back to business as usual—people working the jobs, the doors of the Box closed, sun shining down. Any signs of a crazed girl bearing notes of doom had disappeared.
Having had his tour cut short, he decided to take a walk around the Glade on his own and get a better look and feel for the place. He headed out for the northeast corner, toward the big rows of tall green cornstalks that looked ready to harvest. There was other stuff, too: tomatoes, lettuce, peas, a lot more that Thomas didn’t recognize.
He took a deep breath, loving the fresh whiff of dirt and growing plants. He was almost positive the smell would bring back some sort of pleasant memory, but nothing came. As he got closer, he saw that several boys were weeding and picking in the small fields. One waved at him with a smile. An actual smile.
Maybe this place won’t be so bad after all, Thomas thought. Not everyone here could be a jerk. He took another deep breath of the pleasant air and pulled himself out of his thoughts—there was a lot more he wanted to see.
Next was the southeast corner, where shabbily built wooden fences held in several cows, goats, sheep, and pigs. No horses, though. That sucks, Thomas thought. Riders would definitely be faster than Runners. As he approached, he figured he must’ve dealt with animals in his life before the Glade. Their smell, their sound—they seemed very familiar to him.
The smell wasn’t quite as nice as the crops, but still, he imagined it could’ve been a lot worse. As he explored the area, he realized more and more how well the Gladers kept up the place, how clean it was. He was impressed by how organized they must be, how hard they all must work. He could only imagine how truly horrific a place like this could be if everyone went lazy and stupid.
Finally, he made it to the southwest quarter, near the forest.
He was approaching the sparse, skeletal trees in front of the denser woods when he was startled by a blur of movement at his feet, followed by a hurried set of clacking sounds. He looked down just in time to see the sun flash off something metallic—a toy rat—scurrying past him and toward the small forest. The thing was already ten feet away by the time he realized it wasn’t a rat at all—it was more like a lizard, with at least six legs scuttling the long silver torso along.
A beetle blade. It’s how they watch us, Alby had said.
He caught a gleam of red light sweeping the ground in front of the creature as if it came from its eyes. Logic told him it had to be his mind playing tricks on him, but he swore he saw the word WICKED scrawled down its rounded back in large green letters. Something so strange had to be investigated.
Thomas sprinted after the scurrying spy, and in a matter of seconds he entered the thick copse of trees and the world became dark.
CHAPTER 10
He couldn’t believe how quickly the light disappeared. From the Glade proper, the forest didn’t look that big, maybe a couple of acres. Yet the trees were tall with sturdy trunks, packed tightly together, the canopy up above thick with leaves. The air around him had a greenish, muted hue, as if only several minutes of twilight remained in the day.
It was somehow beautiful and creepy, all at once.
Moving as fast as he could, Thomas crashed through the heavy foliage, thin branches slapping at his face. He ducked to avoid a low-hanging limb, almost falling. Reaching out, he caught hold of a branch and swung himself forward to regain his balance. A thick bed of leaves and fallen twigs crunched underneath him.
All the while, his eyes stayed riveted on the beetle blade scuttling across the forest floor. Deeper it went, its red light glowing brighter as the surroundings darkened.
Thomas had charged thirty or forty feet into the woods, dodging and ducking and losing ground with every second, when the beetle blade jumped onto a particularly large tree and scooted up its trunk. But by the time Thomas reached the tree, any sign of the creature had vanished. It had disappeared deep within the foliage—almost as if it had never existed.
He’d lost the sucker.
“Shuck it,” Thomas whispered, almost as a joke. Almost. As strange as it seemed, the word felt natural on his lips, like he was already morphing into a Glader.
A twig snapped somewhere to his right and he jerked his head in that direction. He stilled his breath, listened.
Another snap, this time louder, almost like someone had broken a stick over their knee.
“Who’s there?” Thomas yelled out, a tingle of fear shooting across his shoulders. His voice bounced off the canopy of leaves above him, echoing through the air. He stayed frozen, rooted to the spot as all grew silent, except for the whistling song of a few birds in the distance. But no one answered his call. Nor did he hear any more sounds from that direction.
