reminders for new black butler fans
I am terrified that new fans are gonna come in (especially from twitter...shudders) and start screaming the same thing's we've been hearing since forever, so let me reiterate some things for you guys
there is nothing we can do about the seb*ciel fans. we hate them. any normal black butler fan hates seb*ciel. block the tag
most of the anime is NOT CANON. I think only e1-6 and 13-15 are canon to the manga, and even the ending of episode 15 was changed. season 2 is not canon. the OVA's are not canon. what is canon is book of circus, book of the atlantic, book of murder and the public school arc.
do not be weird about any of the characters in the public school arc oh my god those are minors (apparently the p4 are over 18, but like. still.)
do not say that you "want maurice cole to die" or "wish he had alois' trauma" that is fucking weird. I understand that maurice is not a well-liked character but that is not an excuse to say you want a CHILD to suffer
the public school arc is not a glorified version of harry potter. knock it off.
for the love of GOD do not give gregory the virgil sanders treatment i am begging on my hands and knees he is just shy and artistic not your little storm cloud
black butler is a very dark and triggering story. there are a lot of triggering themes within the manga (moreso the anime I have to be honest). if these themes upset you, then it may not be for you. that is okay. you're allowed to not like it and not interact with it. however, this doesn't mean that you should start screaming and yelling that other people shouldn't watch it either (this is more of a twitter issue but I digress)
okay now for some general reminders
if someone ships something you don't like (NOT talking about proship shit, thats nasty), i.e. sebastian x william or whatever. who cares. if you don't like it, then don't interact with it. simple as that!
this does not go for people who ship minors and adults you guys are fucking freaks
you don't have to like someone else's au. again, don't like, don't interact. it's easy
grell is a transwoman. this is not up for debate and is canon. yes, he/him pronouns are used for her in the anime and manga. NONE OF US LIKE THIS.
what sexuality / gender / race someone headcanons another character as is none of your business unless they're falling into harmful stereotypes
sascha's gender is not canon. most people use they/them for them (me included), but some use he or she. since they are not canonly nonbinary, this isn't an issue. however, please respect if someone uses they/them exclusively on them!
william is NOT abusive OH MY GOD PLEASE STOP SAYING HE IS. in the anime he is like, super brutal on grell for some reason? he only ever "hits" grell once in the manga (after her stunt as jack the ripper") and then jabs her twice with his scythe in the manga. he has never struck her. so stop. please. I love him so.
you don't have to accept the fanon (or canon really lol, that's why au's exist), there is no obligation
if someone says that bb is their special interest or hyperfixation your first instinct should not be to shit on them for it
DO NOT HARASS THE ENGLISH VOICE ACTORS, PLEASE PLEASE
don't harass the play actors either now that I'm here
like and reblog art, leave comments and kudos on fanfics
be normal for the love of god
okay that's it! byeeeee

playful dress miss raven
Tumblr media
HI 🤡 I wanted to do some doodles of Miss Raven in her own version of Stage in Playful Land’s costume.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, I was too lazy to color-- I drew inspirations for the outfit design from the female dancing puppets in Disney's Pinocchio (since the new event heavily references this film), Doll from Black Butler's circus arc, and ballet in general. The specific ballet I looked at was Coppelia; it's about a boy who falls in love with a doll (the creation of a mad scientist. His fiancé, Swanhilda, then impersonates the doll in order to win his love back. I thought it fit well with the idea of the "human puppet" motif of the Playful Dress series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BONUS DOODLES:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like to think that Miss Raven got dragged along for the trip because she was busy chewing the group out for sneaking off campus... then Kalim (bless him) thinks she's feeling left out, so he tells her to come with them! "The more, the merrier!" (And hey, Ferro and Gidel won't say no to another poor unfortunate soul for their amusement park.) "F-Fine! I'll attend, but only so I can keep a watchful eye on you all! I intend to write a detailed report on your transgressions for the headmaster to review when we return."
"Yeah, yeah. You say that now, but I bet you'll be like a kid in a candy store once we actually get there." Ace rolls his eyes. "You spend so much time with your head buried in a book--it'll do ya some good to kick your feet up and do something different for a change."
"Gahahah! It sounds like she's excited for Playful Land!" Kalim grins broadly. "We're going to have so much fun together!" "I will do my best to assist in the documentation of this trip, Raven Crowley-san," Ortho offers. "Pictures, videos... I'll record them all, so we won't forget this anytime soon!"
Tumblr media
... Anyway 🤡 Miss Raven has to help babysit the idiots (while trying to mask her own childish wonder as she experiences an amusement park for the first time). Oh, and J word and L*ona are there, so 💀 more trouble for her...
"Heh. You're staring at that roller coaster with big, sparkling eyes. If you want to ride it, then just say so." Leona says it with a smirk, a lilt of smugness to his suggestion. "There's nothing wrong with a kid being a kid."
"I-I'm not a kid! I'm just... admiring the composition of such an imposing metal structure!! There is nothing like it in the natural world."
Jade chuckles. "Would prefer to partake in one of the many games they offer here? Ah, and should you ever feel peckish, there is a selection of carnival fare to indulge in: caramel apples, popcorn, cotton candy--"
"All foods which would result in terrible toothaches if consumed in large quantities! And games? We haven't the time to enjoy such leisures."
"Oi, eel." A scowl from Leona. "Shameless of you to cut into our conversation, isn't it? I guess without the octopunk around to keep you on your leash you think it's fair game to act out in front of an upperclassman." "Oya? I don't recall there being a formal chaperone for this trip, Leona-san," he replies easily. "Fufu, perhaps you feel the need to preside over your juniors in the absence of the usual pack you dole orders to."
"Here's an order for you then: back off. You're killing my mood."
"As you wish. Come along, Miss Raven. We wouldn't want to disturb our dear senpai." "Dragging prey around like they're puppets on strings," Leona snorts, blocking the path. "You go. The canary stays. Our business isn't finished yet."
"Business?" Jade continues to smile. "Oh no, I would never mean to interfere with such a thing--but it's not truly business you're interested in, is it, Leona-san?"
"Funny. I was going to say the same of you."
"... You're both talking as though I'm not literally right here!!"

my overall thoughts on season 7, writing edition: what in the world ? 😭 i cannot believe i thought this season was gonna be good. i’ll be joining rohan & S2 MC in the circus, since FB made me look like a damn clown. i don't even know where to begin
being a casa girl had so much potential, and it was something that a lot of players actually wanted, even before FB started doing these themed seasons. they really fumbled the bag here
i enjoyed casa amor. the guys were all unique, had their own dialogue, and it was cool to see their pre-established relationships (alex being the villa dad, bryson and rafa being partners in chaos, the beef between bryson & joyo) then we arrived in the villa, and it all went downhill from there:
everybody became an empty husk, so they could be forced into interchangeable roles: uma’s partner, bonnie’s partner, OG LI’s ex, loved up couple (summer/joyo or #rafne) to name a few. FB’s lazy asses ruined their own characters . why is alex, the supposed level-headed & mature one, being petty & childish af in my playthrough? 😭
MC literally had no thoughts, head empty. we barely participated in any of the challenges and games. it felt like we didn't do anything besides "get pulled for a chat" by your LI or the girls
the LI personality merge in this season was the worst it has ever been. all they do is agree with whatever you say, or tell you how great you are (gone are the days of LIs having their own interests, & getting extra dialogue because of that, like levi with artist MCs)
same problem as the most recent seasons, where MC doesn’t have friendships. she has a forced bestie, then potential LIs that sit around waiting for you to pick them, choose them, love them (they immediately disappear if you don’t pick them)
the plot made no sense at all. being a casa girl means we miss out on the first half of the season, but there were many different ways they could've shown what happened before we arrived (it couldve been something as simple as MC watching the show at home or during the jeep ride to the villa. lol) the timeline was inconsistent, so much important information was paywalled, and i’m pretty sure FB was just making shit up as they went along, since the drama with stephen and OG LI's ex genuinely came out of nowhere . he wasn’t previously mentioned in the beach hut, casa amor, nothing . his only purpose was to make the OG girl look bad.
speaking of the OG girls, what a disappointment . before we got to the villa, i honestly thought they were hinting at estelle and/or willow being LIs . even if they were forced to be our rival, they still could’ve had an interesting character arc . it would've been a lot more fun if she was like allegra, rather than OG LI's equivalent of suresh
i was gonna write, "why tf did she even make it to the finale?" but the answer is obvious : for the gem scenes. every damn volume, it's pay diamonds to upstage her, pay diamonds to clapback, pay diamonds so “your man” doesn't turn his head 🙄 it's already stupid enough, but it makes even less sense if you're not pursuing your OG LI
which leads me to the biggest problem of this season, the lack of branching. you're given the illusion of choice, everything leads to the same outcome . i didn't think it could get any worse, until i saw what happens when you choose the money . does your LI storm off? nope. they make you do the treasure hunt anyways...to win you back ??😭 MC should've called security on their ass
s7 had a promising start but ended up being a flop. it was better than s5, but that's really not saying much . i wish FB would just take their time—s1 and 2 had a whole year long gap between them. but it's clear that rushed seasons are gonna be the norm, season 8 is dropping in february . capitalism ruins everything luv x

hii! honeslty just curious, I read/watched kuroshitsuji AGES ago and I don't think I've finished the manga anyway, does grell go by she/her?? I vageuly remember ppl headcanonning them as enby though iirc in canon he's a guy?
Your tags peaked my curiosity, I haven't seen any Kuro content in a hot minute, but I remember it being the absolute must watch in my peak anime watching years lol And I absolutely loved the manga's artstyle
in canon grell is a trans woman, yana toboso has said something like "grell is a man with a woman's heart" ages ago and sometimes around 2014/16 had tweeted something about wanting to be more careful with her representation of people like grell in the future, don't quote me on that thought because i only read that tweet once and only remember reading a shitty screenshot of a translation of that interview where she allegedly said that.
i can however show you this:
Tumblr media
it's from a bonus chapter (after chapter 108) about the popularity polls (it's a very convoluted non canon chapter) but it's one of the most blatant example of her being trans.
there's also the way she constantly refers to herself as a "young maiden" ect. idk how it goes exactly in the og but in french they translated it so grell always refers to herself with feminine terms while everyone else misgender her including the narrator. she very consistently reaffirm herself as a woman through every single ones of her appearances, like it's a thing she very much does, every single time she's on screen.
i haven't watched the anime in forever (cause it's kind of a disgrace and insult to the manga lol) but if i remember properly (which i mostly likely don't) they did omit/lowkey censor some of grell explicitly going "i wish i had been born a woman/could have been able to carry children" when she first properly introduce herself as a shinigami & the other half of jack the killer. (the anime also really did lean a lot more into the pervert queer caricature whereas in the manga she's given a bit more dignity, especially the further the story goes. though that might be my own impression and maybe it didn't change that much i just love her a whole lot).
also because i have to, please forget the anime (the first two seasons that is) and read the manga first and foremost because oh boy, what a disaster the anime is (nostlagia and atmosphere wise it's entertaining, i really love the op & ed, but it just, i just cant man it doesn't even compare to the manga at all). only watch book of circus -> book of murder -> campania movie -> the new private school arc that's coming soon (idk what they called it) after reading the manga.

i’ve gotten a few book recs from your blog over the last few years so i was wondering, what new books are you looking forward to this year?
frantically answering this one on release day for some of the books on this list, scraping in under the wire, etc.
* asterisk means I've already read it because of the joys of ARCs.
*SOME DESPERATE GLORY by emily tesh. aspects of military sci-fi, aspects of [redacted for spoilers], aspect of alienfucking, protagonist with strong azula-from-avatar vibes (she's the worst, I would die for her). very queer and very clever and will rip your spine out and fill you up with emotions. it's gonna win a hugo and become a modern classic. guaranteed.
SOMETHING SPECTACULAR & MORTAL FOLLIES both by alexis hall. both are regency romances, one with genderfluid & agender protags, the other one is sapphic and involving fairies I think?? maybe witches?? don't know don't care, I'll devour anything alexis hall cares to serve me.
*THE FIRST BRIGHT THING by j.r. dawson. if you enjoyed the aesthetics of the night circus but wish it had more polyamory, sapphics, time travel, examinations of trauma, found family and post-ww1 americana: this is for you. it's such a wonderful, chewy, compassionate book. about magical circuses.
KNOCKOUT by @sarahmaclean. I love sarah's current 'hell's belles' historical romance series so much and this one is the romance with IMOGEN who is an EXPLOSIVES EXPERT, so I expect it to blow my socks off in several different ways. can't wait.
*STARLING HOUSE by alix e. harrow. southern gothic! feral gremlin girl meets house and is NOT impressed! feral gremlin girl meets glowering gremlin boy and is even LESS impressed! buried sins, the grind of poverty, terrible houses that want your blood. I read this in almost a single sitting and I had the time of my fucking life.
*THE DEATH I GAVE HIM by em x. liu. locked room murder mystery sci-fi hamlet retelling!! exactly as amazing as it sounds. another one that I flew through in a single sitting. features science, deception, transhumanism, and some unreasonably sexy AI-interfacing.

Things that were missing in the School for Good and Evil movie
So, I have seen people comment on areas from the School for Good and Evil movie that failed to hit the mark, and I wanted to chime in some of my own thoughts:
What was up with the blood magic? I have only read the first book (I'm slacking, I know), but there was no mention of it, from what I recall. If anything, they have regular magic, which would have worked much more effectively. Plus, we were robbed by not seeing Agatha's finger glow being golden, nor Sophie's, which was the iconic color of hot pink.
Lady Lesso, I'm sorry, did not strike me as being evil enough to be a professor at the SCHOOL FOR EVIL. Also, what was up with Dovey? Her character gave me mixed signals: was she truly good or shallow like the rest of the school for good?
I love that they got Sofia Wylie to play Agatha, she did well with what she was given. Having this character be represented as a POC gives an extra layer of nuance. However, I am concerned with how they pushed Agatha aside to give Sophie more screen time. Many fans also have mentioned the treatment of Agatha's hair during her time in the school for good, while also talking about how the character is not meant to be conventionally beautiful. But given that the choice to cast Agatha as a POC yet to give her less screen time has implications that I wanted to showcase.
I liked how they did the wish-fish scene as it remained pretty faithful to the book. However, I wish they included some more scenes that were so impactful for Agatha and Sophie's character arcs. Some of these scenes include: the Circus of Talents, Sophie killing the swan, Sophie drowning the beast for cutting her hair, Agatha smiling for the first time and realizing her own inner beauty/self-worth, Agatha accepting herself and coming to terms with her own goodness. These nuances are what make the book great, and it is a shame the film didn't include them.
WHERE WAS THE RANKING SYSTEM?!?! Yes, they mentioned the fact that three failures would lead to an expulsion, but the rankings helped develop Agatha and Sophie's growth. They didn't fit the mold right away, both earning 1's at the start. But once they took control, they quickly became the top student at their respective schools.
The beginning had good action, but why reveal the biggest mystery in the entire book? Doing this made the story bland, they should've kept the original pacing.
Speaking of original, why remove the fact that the village is aware of the school? This added a whole layer of meta commentary as the town folk quickly realize that they cannot leave beyond the forest, and that if every fairytale starts at a village, then they are that village. This is why two children are taken every four years -- leading to preparation to protect the village kids and the iconic opening line of the book.
Also, removing the fact that Sophie became friends with Agatha only as a "good deed" is a disservice to both of their characters. This should have never been changed.
It feels like the movie is dead-set on showing how morality isn't black and white. Which, to be fair, is a good take, but the book already addressed this in a much more nuanced fashion. In the book, it is known that each person has a certain percentage of good and evil within them. Those that have more good are sent to be heroes, whereas those that have more evil are sent to be villains. Yet, Agatha and Sophie are different because they are the only ones who are 100% on one side: Agatha is 100% good whereas Sophie is 100% evil. This, to me, is much more nuanced because it establishes the fact that everyone can be both good and evil. Yet, those who are purely and entirely good DO exist, and when they are around, beauty and peace follows. At the same time, true evil CAN exist, and when left unchecked, can be dangerous for all.
Talking about the percentages, this is why Sophie and Agatha have a story being written about them in the first place. The film briefly states how the Storian doesn't write a tale for everyone, so the fact that it begins writing about the two of them is rare and sets in motion their tale. But the reason why it does so is partly because of Agatha being 100% good and Sophie being 100% evil, which is never addressed, thus it doesn't have enough impact in the film.
The romance between Tedros and Agatha was okay. I liked how the two had a earlier connection, but it was missing the spice of the enemies-to-lovers trope while also having no room to grow. He just likes her because "she's different," but it's never shown. Both characters seemed pretty bland as the film went on, which truly is a shame.
I wish they gave more time for the coven to interact, as well as establish Sophie's planning for a Nevers Ball. In the film, it just sort of happens without establishing the fact that only Evers have had a ball. It was also such a great twist for Sophie's actual plan to turn the school upside-down morally.
Sophie should've been more corrupted. Having wrinkles and white hair doesn't compare to the book version in which sHE LITERALLY BECOMES BALD AND FRAIL! She honestly should have looks like Smeagol from The Lord of the Rings to show how deeply a nemesis affects a villain and how evil can truly corrupt.
Talking about evil Sophie, where was the confrontation between her and Agatha? Where she nearly kills Agatha due to her hatred for her? Where she gets Agatha to slow dance with her, leading to the heroes attacking a "defenseless school?" WHERE WAS THE MOMENT WHERE SOPHIE'S PLAN LED TO TEDROS ALMOST SHOOTING AGATHA WITH AN ARROW?!?! This scene could've been as poetic as it was in the book.
The kiss between Sophie and Rafal was okay, but I wish they were more artistic with it. The movie focuses way too much on true love's kiss that they neglect the fact that this kiss be shared between two villains became a true hate kiss. In the book, Sophie describes the feeling as being horrible and wicked, and it's something that I feel the director could've played with in order to show how twisted evil's kiss truly can be. We have always seen a true love's kiss in media, but never a true hate kiss. This was definitely a missed opportunity to be sure.
What was that ending?! Honestly, this film feels like Netflix just flipped through the book, sniffed its contents, and figured that was enough for a movie. It’s giving corporate vibes and it shows. To me, the ending feels a bit sloppy and it doesn’t set things up for a sequel the way the book does where our protagonists leave abruptly through a magic portal after Agatha kisses Sophie. Nothing is truly resolved, making for a good transition to book 2. In the movie’s ending, everything feels pretty resolved, so it may be hard to get a smooth transition for a sequel that is believable.
Finally, this should have been a series on Netflix as clearly, two and a half hours isn't enough to address all of these little nuances that make the book so great. If they could do it with Bridgerton, they certainly could've done it with The School for Good and Evil.

About what you said in your last BB post, I wonder if it's true that Snake will kill Doll. I have read many comments wishing for that, especially on Twitter, and readers commenting a lot of hate towards Doll, saying that Doll was always okay with kidnapping children, and even now she's hurting children, so she deserves to die again, but Doll wasn't really evil, she was a kind girl :( I just can't accept Yana brought her back only to gain the fandom's hate and to be killed by Snake. I think her condition as a bizarre doll is making her to act like that. That's why I would like to know your opinion, since you seem to be one of the few people who doesn't hate Doll, do you think Snake will really kill Doll?
Hello! Thanks for your ask ♡
I didn't know about this hate towards Doll in the fandom (as I don't spend much time in social media nowadays, especially Twitter), but I wouldn't be surprised, fandom is biased lol.
Regarding my opinion, I think I already answered it in another post, so maybe I'm just repeating more of the same, I don't know, but here we go
I agree Doll used to be a kind girl in the circus arc, she always took care of the new ones, and she protected OCiel thinking he was a kid needing her help. She also was the most conflicted about the whole child abduction thing, and was very hesitant to hurt people as we saw in BoC. Doll had an innate kindness.
HOWEVER, first we have to learn to separate that Doll from this new Doll. Doll is now an advanced bizarre doll, and those dolls seem to be desperate for blood (as we saw with Layla), they can't feel physical pain, and seem to lack empathy for the lives of other humans because they have no souls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So you got an idea.
It is understandable if readers dislike BD!Doll, but I disagree with those comments about her being always evil, because she wasn't.
Also, is Doll really evil now? And this question goes for all the bizarre dolls. It's not like Doll gave her consent to be brought back as a monster, as she called herself. And it's not like she is the mastermind behind the horrors of the orphanage, there is an organization behind it and if Doll is important is as a test subject, she is a simple puppet, a doll. And yes, it was stated in this post before, that it's probably that bizarre dolls are programmed with their "yearning for the future" and cannot escape from that. This arc could give us more insight about how dolls function regarding that topic.
Now, let's talk about Snake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Snake's position is a very difficult one. Snake clearly loves Doll, she was a part of his family and it was hinted in the last cover that she saved him in a similar way Ciel did with Finny, and now he has her corpse telling him that Ciel killed her, and that the people he is currently friends with killed his first family... it's heartbreaking. On the other hand, there are innocent children being used as a material for the "Stars", and that must be stopped.
About the "Snake will kill Doll theory", I don't think that would actually happen, I mean it's still a possibility, but even if Doll goes completely mad and start attacking them so Snake would have no option, he would still resent o!Ciel for being forced to do that. I think things will be resolved differently.
Sorry for the late response and again thanks for the ask!

Full list of most of my ocs
ill just list important stuff about them (and maybe some bits on au versions of them.) Under read more cause this is going to be long. maybe a two parter. Feel free to ask about any of them
Oliver (known as Shifting Baker in the oc title ask game
I Have a few consistent traits for him. He is always on the range of Hard of Hearing to Deaf. He is always a shapeshifter(cause of which changes depending on the version). He is almost always transmasc, Biromantic and ace. He also always has naturally white hair. He loves baking
some versions of him (plus nicknames):
Playdo (Tma version of oliver)
he's almost fully a Stranger avatar after he got erased from memory after a very dumb wish. uses a hearing aid. has a boyfriend. Gets regular scam calls from the circus. (There's another au version of him where he got taken by the Circus)
Expo (Experiment au Oliver)
ditto hybrid after experimentation stuff. (au is partly inspired by Chained Wings by Vampirebadger) Fully Deaf, uses notepad or phone to mainly communicate, eventually learns sign. (i ended up shipping him with Nemona). Also loves to battle.
Change-o (pla pirate au version)
He's a Changeling here. with one level in rogue. shows up for at least one arc.
---
Juliana (she was originally the sv female mc but i changed enough about her that she is an oc now. i never got a better name)(aka Chaotic One in the title ask game)
consistent traits for her:
Oliver's sister (whether biological or self appointed). also typically has white hair. She's a lesbian.
some versions of her(no nicknames yet):
Tma version
biological twin to Oliver. randomly noticed a person in old family photos that she swore was never there before and goes down a rabbit hole of finding more and more evidence of an entire sibling she forgot about
Experiment au version
Miraidon hybrid after unethical science in area zero. twin to Oliver as well but they don't find that out for a while. (ended up shipping her with penny)
pla pirate au version
She's a Goblin here and runs a scam with Oliver. Shows up in at least one arc in this au.
---
Cassandra Achroma (aka the Victorian Biologist)
She is a Colress ancestor oc that I solely use in Experiment au. She does a lot in that au though. She's also Aroace (but very invested in her coworkers love life. It's free entertainment). She's also technically the cause of her own time loop.
---
Brittle (aka The Ghost)
And then there's Brittle... She's dead.
She is also transfem and French. Her full name is Peanut Brittle. She named herself.
Experiment au version
She's a rotom after she dies due to science gone wrong. ends up haunting two of the scientists after that. ends up being caught by Juliana somehow
Pirate au version
Reborn (undead) human. lives with Scarlet. (may also be part of the scam Oliver and juliana are doing)
---
Scarlet (Aka Feral Flower)
Became an oc after i made a joke character who is a floette that knows Bite and got attached to her. No matter what amount of class or refinery it eventually puts on, she is always itching for a fight and it's clear that it wants one. She's always heavily related to plants.
Experiment au version
Just a flabebe/floette/Florges that knows Bite. She gets better at not biting things as it gets older. It was caught by Juliana in a dark tera raid.
Pirate au version
A summer Eladrin (Feywild elf). She has levels in Barbarian and Druid. Always ready to fight. Lives with Brittle.
---
Tees (aka The Singing Soldier)(originally my dnd pc)
It's a robot with sentience forced upon it. As well as a moustache. It likes the moustache though. It was not built for war or fighting, even though it ended up doing a lot of that, but instead to be a performance (like one of those guys who advertise war) and for moral support (its preprogrammed stuff was not that good at it, very superficial.) It speaks with a British accent. It is compulsed to follow any order given to it.
Tma version
This version of Tees was one of the automatons at that one version of the Unknowing in the 1700's. It gained sentience after the ritual collapsed, likely due to a bit of Slaughter shrapnel finding it's way into it. It starts wandering trying to fill the void of its purpose. All the while the Slaughter shrapnel begins to corrupt its alignment to the Stranger until so little of it is left that Tees begins to have an identity. It ends up fighting in a couple wars before being kidnapped by the Circus (cause it was part of that older Stranger ritual). Makes friends with an au version of Playdo who also got kidnapped for being a Stranger avatar in the wrong place and wrong time.
Original dnd character
Definitely not haunted and given sentience and magic due from its dead friends (who are definitely not an off-brand version of the Mechanisms). Made for moral support forced to babysit the rest of the party. Once scared off a Death God.
---
Marcus Quillia (aka the Burned Detective)
One of my oldest ocs. A Private detective who was in a fire directly related to the death of his cousin/best friend. He then wants revenge against what took his cousin from him. He also got fire powers from that fire. He has black and white peppered hair after it.
Marked (ocverse) version
A private detective who tends to be hired by the police. He has a personal vendetta against the international thief known as Jester after an insane Rube Goldberg series of coincidences made it look like they were the ones who killed his cousin. (Actually due to a different oc I'm still formulating so not on this list yet) way too complicated to get into here. He gets a therapy dog after the fire.
he has the Mark of The Burned
Tma version
he was marked and attacked by a Desolation creature which sparked a hatred of Monsters (Fear creatures and avatars specifically). 1 step away from becoming full Hunt/desolation avatar, 1 or two especially cruel kills to throw away his humanity.
he is really good at his job though (thanks to that hunt alignment). he manages to find a person erased from memory years ago even after they changed their gender. (Juliana hired him to find Oliver). (he also later tries to kill oliver because he accidentally did a Stranger avatar thing in front of him.) (in the version where Oliver gets kidnapped, he does manage to help (by getting his killing monsters fix from other circus members)
---
Jester (aka masked Jesters)(not my sona)
surprisingly i only use these guys in my ocverse.
They are a pretty famous thief, loving to rob things and maybe return things if they feel like it. Accidentally managed to get framed for murder during.
they have DID even if it's a bit magically different from standard. they have 4 personalities.
they have the Mark of The Masked. they have three masks that they can switch between for specific powers. this comes with a few drawbacks. each mask is only tied to one of the personalities and only functions when they put it fully on and its assigned personality is fronting and the only remotely responsible one is not tied to any of these masks.
I'll probably explain more in a different post.
---
Arthur (Aka King Of Stories)
He's an amnesiac with a texan accent who woke up in a fantasy land (modded minecraft) and eventually finds a kid, whom he adopts(Sigyn <3). He ends up getting mainly involved with fire magic. he names most of the things he tames/adopts after the myths he remembers
he was a ex-soldier who later went into museum curation before he got isekai'd. he's wearing his uniform still but it's been through a lot and he's repaired it with magical thread.
He may or may not have committed necromancy and he may or may not be covering up the permanent scar with a mask he found while exploring. A father's love can bring them to some dark places.
he's also taken up sewing recently
Tma au version
He's still an ex-soldier turned museum curator here, but that changes when the Eyepocalyse comes around. He was one of those who didn't exactly feel Fear after an encounter so he can roam the domains, but of course the Eyepocalyse had to change that and gave him someone to Fear for. (Sigyn <3) She joins him as he roams the domains but now the creatures/domain people will notice them as they move. When they attack, they don't go for Arthur, they go for Sigyn instead.
He's a bit Desolation aligned so he can have fire powers. His main weapon he uses to attack is a axe/Labrys he stole from the museum he worked at when the eyepocalypse started.
He does end up fighting some avatars as he goes through domains
---
Sigyn (<3) (aka young Witch)
She's an adaptation of a modded minecraft npc I got attached to.
She's a young witch/wixie (not human though) approximately a 7 year old, but still very knowledgeable about potions.
Arthur found her after he got a request from a paranoid cleric to see if someone was breaking into their church thing while they slept. Sigyn was actually doing so, to try to teach herself to read and to use the potion stand in the church.
She can fly using her broom.
TMA au version
Arthur finds her in a domain dedicated to the Corruption. She was the avatar in charge of it, a child giving adults poisonous potions they cant refuse, too young to really understand what she's doing to them or what's happening with the apocalypse. She ends up going with Arthur as he roams, looking for any safe haven in this apocalypse.
---
Wilhelm von Wolfgang
He's a rich bastard (/affectionate). He is his country's greatest violator of labor laws but keeps getting out of it cause he's rich. I hate him. He's one of my favorite characters to write/play as. He cannot stand still without the aid of a cane. He's basically like if a werewolf was a capitalist in both forms. His view of people poorer than him oscillates between 'I can use them' and 'I never want to see them again'. He's neutral evil. He will skip any corner to make more money. I love him.
---
Acheron Atropos
he's a goth king literally. I made him for a friend's (@/shattered-hue) ocverse where we made characters based based off of bugs and plants and Acheron was made from the Death's Head Moth, whose scientific name is where i pulled his name from.
(still working a bit on him)
---
Sylvan (aka Traveling Librarian)
Sylvan becomes a Head Librarian of a Branch of an Infinite Library after they manage to survive to basically the end of his universe after one of the worst outcomes of 2020, which was all the Stars decided to poof due to multiverse reasons.
he occasionally visits other universes to just get Stories. As an Infinite Library always has room for more books.
---
Virginia Berry(aka the Captain)
From my ocverse: Marked. She has a tattoo of a ship on her back that she can turn into an actual ship that she can control. She has the Mark of the Captain.
I got her name by putting together two of the more famous female pirates.
---
[somehow unnamed as of yet](Aka Truth's artist)
from my ocverse. they have the ability to see a person's greatest secret drawn onto them. (as a general example, a person whose greatest secret is that they killed someone would would have blood drawn onto them). it can be very visually overstimulating for them at times. They ended up getting a (rather bad) job for the government, cause despite how old these "Marks" are they're still rather unknown.

Preliminary Poll
Sylvanas Windrunner
Tumblr media
Submission reason:
WHERE TO BEGIN.... she's an incredibly traumatized woman who's devoted to protecting her people (the Forsaken) who are reviled by the entire world, as well as geting revenge on Arthas, the man who turned them into undead. But then from Cataclysm onwards she's retconned to have never cared at all for the Forsaken and be entirely selfish and given a convoluted villain arc and is generally treated in an incredibly misogynistic way, both in-universe and by Blizzard's creative team. Once she finally got a redemption arc it felt very unearned because of how poorly written her descent into villainy was. tl;dr she could've been a Vriska if the writers even remotely cared about her
Once a benevolent anti-hero, now a villain who is easily defeated despite their ability. At first her change to villainy wasn't bad, it was actually really cool; But then it just got petty and pathetic, and it makes me want to STRANGLE Blizzard (I already wanted to strangle them prior, and again now... I just REALLY hate Blizzard; I don't play WOW anymore because of all the bullcrud putting up with that company-)... THEN, the writers had the audacity to pull a last minute "SIKE!" and make her redeemed or some crud. Bro, I just want Sylvanas back PLEASE!? They made the villainy undermine all the cool things she's ever done, and then they make the redemption thing undermine everything cool she's ever done as the villain character. I actually still liked her even when she was the questionable villain warchief! Shadowlands has ruined her, AND that game expansion has cause me so much pain and agony (who in Blizzard thought it would be a good idea to make me play for more than 3 hours straight just on one run of the stupid tower dungeon thing... See it's been so long I forgot the name of it-)... Why does Blizzard out of all companies have to own this franchise?!?! They make me so ANGRY! Not only are they abusive towards fans and workers, but their content lacks literally everything (with the exception of their new expansion Dragonlands; Which was really nice...); So anyways, I wish I could fight the writers-. Last but not least, since there is no salvaging "that mess", they ended up sentencing Sylvanas for an eternity of fighting the horrors in hell (LITERALLY)! Now the chances of EVER seeing her character EVER AGAIN is slim as all heck because "nope, she felt bad, so now she's gonna go and do cool shenanigans in the Maw (hell essentially) so no one else has to, cause she's nice now!"... Like bro, HECK NO, who's gonna lead my favorite race of the Horde now? The circus?... Those final words were factual as well, the undead are now ruled by their theoretical local arch-nemeses; Bro these zombie people do not need to suffer any more than they have to in canon GOD DANGIT BLIZZARD! I'm just going to say now, if your people have been tortured by a specific group for as long as they have basically existed, what makes you think it would be a good idea to then put one of their leaders in charge... I don't care if she's dead, or a zombie, she's a relic of the civilization that has been trying to kill you, and is STILL trying to kill you! That and I hate how stupidly unaware the new undead leader is; She literally can't empathize with the undead (Sylvanas could! WHICH IS WHY BLIZZARD SHOULD'VE NEVER DONE ANY OF THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE!). I was hoping for some cool zombie solidarity, and all I got was the largest slap in the face canon could give to it's zombie fanboy. Now every time I play my edgy little undead warlock in game, the nightmares kick-in and the sorrows unleash... I don't think me or my Warcraft account will ever recover from the tomfoolery...
there is a LOT of specifics like you can read her wiki page if you want - it's long - but she has an insanely cool origin story (shes an elf that defended her home against an undead scourge, was killed in action, brought back as a banshee to serve the lich king, and then eventually broke free and rallied all the other dead people who were raised and their minds enslaved by the scourge, and she led the faction of freed undead people, which are one of the playable races) and was a very cool figurehead for a while but the misogynistic writing of Blizzard Entertainment kind of made her into a "crazy hysterical woman" who did really evil things for seemingly no reason that don't make sense based on her previous characterization. she was deliberately made to do a really evil act (elf genocide, basically) on like, a whim? which was really out of character for her as a cold, calculating, intelligent leader and made a LOT of seething gamers really mad. i think they said they used her specifically to make people debate about lore which is like, really shitty bc the story didn't make sense and it just gave a lot of misogynistic gamers an opportunity to hate on a female character. i saw a lot of hate for her (usually laced with misogyny, calling her a bitch and stuff) and a lot of people defending her but ultimately she was just written terribly and her character was absolutely ravaged. it kind of makes me sad but im not really surprised given blizzards track record. i think shes "good" again now? they finally concluded her story arc after i stopped playing the game, but the damage was already done, a lot of people just hate her now bc her shitty actions heavily impacted the story (and made for a shitty story) and she was also featured prominently and people just got tired of her.
Propaganda:
A Vid in support of "benevolent" Sylvanas : https://youtu.be/9ld4tCS8Gng A cool cinematic? : https://youtu.be/TVp7yLfnmrE A silly edit I made... (made a looooong time ago) : https://youtu.be/_5pEZH_pEtA Kakio is cool, I trust his words : https://youtu.be/svZt-opethU IDK, Sylvanas is cool; I had a crush on her in middle school, and I still do-...
i saw the promo post and this character INSTANTLY shot to mind even though i havent touched wow or any blizzard game in nearly two years also shes hot.

on mai, azula and the nature of fear
so the discourse of “did mai fear azula?” has been reigning for some time, and i figured it was time i added my two cents. let’s explore the arguments made by both sides of the debate, and evaluate the general claims i see most frequently from either party.
no, mai did not fear azula: this side claims that mai canonically showed no signs of being afraid of azula. they point to mai smiling at azula, looking eager to get out of omashu, willingly hunting down zuko without hesitation, and refusing to complete tasks that azula gave her as evidence. they argue that mai’s actions were undertaken of her own agency, not out of fear of azula.
yes, mai feared azula: this side argues that mai knew azula held power over her, and her reactions are a response to trauma and abuse. she is apathetic and repressed because she fears azula, which is why she joined her on her mission , and thus gives her a fulfilling arc in the boiling rock when she says the much debated line: “i love zuko more than i fear you!”
looking at the arguments on either end, i don’t think the real question that both sides are debating is whether mai feared azula. mai is a citizen of the fire nation and azula is the princess. just as we must obey our governments, mai is bound to obey azula or face the consequences. if mai wishes to keep her life, she knows that there are certain things she cannot do (such as actively work against azula, or the fire nation). to some extent, then, mai is pretty much required to fear azula, just as we fear the law.
the real question is: did mai’s fear of azula control her?
if mai’s character arc was always meant to be her overcoming her fear of azula due to her love for zuko, we need to see that this fear affected mai’s choices in some way. in order for mai to have a believable redemption, it needs to be clear that mai’s fear of azula is what determines her actions, but this is never established in the show.
when we first meet mai, she is bored with her life in omashu. when there is a failed attack by the resistance, she immediately retaliates swiftly and viciously (and is in fact the only one to do so), and even seems to take delight in doing so, smirking when she throws her knives. she relentlessly pursues aang, katara and sokka until they escape with the resistance’s help, whereupon she sighs and appears disappointed.
what does this tell us about mai?
we learn that she is apathetic, indifferent and craves excitement. we learn that she is a vicious, skilled fighter and takes joy in fighting. we learn that she is an active combatant who does not hesitate to injure or even kill resistance fighters in the city her family occupied. now keep in mind that all of this is established before azula even shows up, or mai knows that she is coming.
when mai does meet azula, she complains about the boredom she feels and sardonically asks azula to kill her. she immediately volunteers to sign up for azula’s mission without knowing what it is, citing her displeasure with the city as the reason. she attacks katara and sokka at risk to her own brother’s life, and smiles at the thought of hunting zuko down.
what does this tell us about mai? exactly what it did before.
now let’s compare this to ty lee’s introduction.
ty lee is happy to see azula, and hugs her. she is very acrobatic, agile and flexible. despite going to the same school as azula, she chose to join the circus. she immediately rejects azula’s offer to be part of her team, and states that she’s happy where she is. she only changes her mind when azula actively endangers her life.
what does this tell us about ty lee?
we learn that she is a bubbly, carefree person. we learn that azula clearly has a lot of trust in and respect for her skills to recruit her. we learn that she does not want to participate in the war and actively chooses to stay out of it. we learn that she agrees to fight with azula only when she has absolutely no other alternative.
there is an immediate distinction made between what ty lee wants to do and what ty lee has to do, and it’s done in a scene that lasts all of five minutes altogether. we learn everything we need to know about ty lee and azula’s influence on her, and this continues to be substantiated throughout their dynamic for the rest of the series. the juxtaposition between the choice ty lee makes with full agency, versus the choice she makes under duress, is what makes her actions understandable and her redemption believable.
the real problem with mai’s character arc is that there is no clear distinction made between what she does of her own agency, and what she does out of fear of azula. if they are one and the same, then mai’s fear of azula is irrelevant to the argument at hand, because she would have done the same thing regardless of her feelings towards azula. there is barely any difference between what she does before she meets azula/without azula and what she does in azula’s presence.
in fact, the only scenes where there is a disparity seems to imply that mai’s fear of azula, if it does exist, is not enough to overpower mai’s own desires. she refuses to enter the sewers of the drill to fight katara and toph, and willingly gives up bosco the bear to sokka, despite knowing the consequences if azula found out about either of these things, because she cannot be bothered.
i’ve seen the argument that mai only dares to do this when azula isn’t around, but then why doesn’t she exercise this agency in other cases where azula can’t see what she’s doing? why not show a flicker of worry for her brother when fighting katara and sokka (while azula is occupied with aang)? why not look down, momentarily tensed, when ty lee teases her about zuko, and azula isn’t even looking in her direction? why not show compassion for the people of ba sing se, even, if they truly wanted her to be the endgame love interest of one of the show’s most empathetic characters? it reflects far worse on mai if she does dare to defy azula when she’s not around, but only for her own needs and wants.
if mai is apathetic and repressed as a result of trauma, or she’s putting it on due to a fear of azula, then show us that this is her response, and not the real her. show us the cracks in the facade. show us the choices she makes when she has the freedom to choose.
let me be clear: in real life, victims of trauma/abuse don’t need to act in a certain way to prove their trauma or abuse. trauma and abuse come in different forms, and victims react in different ways. but in fiction, especially with an audience that is primarily children, we need to see every step of a character’s journey, and particularly so if that character is slated for redemption.
we see an excellent example of character agency with zuko in book 1. sure, he acts entitled and selfish and arrogant, but when the chips are down? we see who zuko is. we see him put his life on the line to save his crew member, show mercy to a man who would’ve never done the same to him, and even try to save that man’s life. we know who zuko is when he’s acting of his own accord, and there is a clear difference between that zuko and the zuko he is as a result of trauma, or when he’s trying to be the son his father wants.
if mai was truly meant to be redeemed, if she was always meant to overcome her fear of azula for zuko, then the show had to prove that, like ty lee, mai’s fear of azula was the sole motivating factor behind her actions ‐ and it did not.
and that is why her redemption arc was, fundamentally, a failure in every possible way.

Madellaine would have looked so much cuter like this. You canNOT change my mind. She should have been Sarousch's biological daughter or something; that would have made her trauma darker and more akin to that of Quasimodo's which is her overall character arc anyway. Making it darker by having Sarousch her actual father would have at least been a little closer to the dark nature of the original movie.
Also, Madellaine just straight up looks SO WEIRD to me, with some of the color choices.
I made another version where she's still caucasian, but a brunette with green eyes. Look how YELLOW her original skin color is in that scene. Yes, she's inside a golden bell, but there's so many shots of her in the movie where she is sickly yellow. She looks like she could be in the Simpsons!
Tumblr media
I don't know man, either way, I wish they had made her Romani/Sarousch's daughter. The movie keeps comparing the Romani people to the circus people anyway, might as well just hammer it home if you gotta.
Would have made room for some more complex dialogue and made it more adult too like the original.

I was thinking it doesn’t seem like SJM likes Elain much (beyond a, aw she’s sweet, kind of feeling). Rarely includes her in the stories anymore and didn’t include her in the crossover. She never talks about her in interviews and doesn’t really respond anymore when interviewers ask about her. Which bums me out. I do, however, hope this works to Elain’s advantage. The characters SJM LOVES seem to get ruined. SJM latched onto Nesta, and we know how that went for Nesta’s character and book. In that bracket tik tok game she did, she chose CASSIAN over RHYSAND. Yet Cassian had possibly the worst story I’ve ever read. Rhys is lucky he had his story told already in book 1-4 when SJM was still writing good, because lately she seems to love using him as a meanie which is getting really annoying (on SJM’s part. I’m not mad at Rhys or anything). SJM gushed about Tharion and look at that mess. She said Manon was a character she felt she needed personally, and Manon had the oddest romance story I’ve ever read (no offense to Manorians).
You know who SJM doesn’t have a track record of gushing about beyond a few comments here or there? Elorcan. One of her best ships and storylines. Even chaolyrene, who had a pretty widely loved story. And honestly, I know SJM has gushed a lot over Feyre in the past, and her love for Feyre is obvious, but in recent years it seems like she…moved on? from feyre. Sort of not into writing about her anymore it doesn’t seem like. Yet Feyre had one of the best arcs and romances I’ve ever read and is widely considered SJM’s most popular series.
I guess my point is, it bums me out she doesn’t give Elain much attention but I hope this will lead to SJM being a bit objective about her and able to craft a very well written story that is true to Elain. Azriel on the other hand? He seems to be her next victim so yes I am scared for him.
I legit agree 100% with everything.
the moment she 'falls in love' with a character, she destroys them or makes them be SO OUT of character, they might as well be completely new, since they are now a figment of her current imagination.
I hope that she doesn't fall in love with Elain. Ever. I hope she leaves her alone and doesn't make her a girlboss, and doesn't do stupid 'trauma' slog with her.
I feel like she never really loved Feyre. Not like Aelin. Feyre is too normal. SJM LOVED(S) Rhys, so he played an immense role in Feyre's story. Everything in her story is connected to Rhys. On the flip side, since she doesnt care for Cassian, she didnt know what to do with him. I am fully prepared for the demolition of Azriel's character.
It's hard for me to understand how she writes, because I write the opposite, and i think that most of the authors that i like also write the opposite of her.
But yes, one of her superior love stories--Elorcan--i dont think she even remembers them. My greatest wish is that she follows in those footsteps with Elriel. I mean, a traveling circus? come on! that was awesome. "You are my husband". "I don't want to be your husband." "Too bad, you are. End of." It was great.

Can someone enjoy a work and criticizing it at the same time? Sorry if this ask so sudden.
Yes.
The Wittebane lore got me interested in The Owl House in the first place and introduced me to a passionate fandom, which included @anglerflsh. The way "Watching and Dreaming" did it dirty by ignoring all the build-up from Season 2 to the first two episodes of Season 3 is so egregious. I've had bad times among the fandom, but it's been great to find people with whom I could discuss the show from a critical lens on Tumblr and the Discord server of @mdhwrites.
Philip would absolutely get along with Bai Jin from Karakuri Circus over having older brothers who abandoned them and everything they stood for—even though both of them had looked up to and had the closest bonds with their brothers since childhood—and how the writers did them dirty by neglecting their backgrounds and misrepresenting their motives. I count Bai Yin among the worst brothers in fiction alongside Yuguro Musa from Moribito II: Guardian of the Darkness and Akio Ohtori from Revolutionary Girl Utena. It's egregious how Fujita refuses to criticize him as much as he does with Bai Jin given the themes of love and relationships in the manga.
As for Witch Hat Atelier, I love Tartah's arc in which he finds a way around his disability and the Romonon arc in which the apprentices complement each other, helping them grow up—Richeh's and Eunie's backstories are among the greatest in the series and Eunie's internal struggles connect with the lore too! I wish Shirahama had been more resolute in criticizing the rigidity and cruelty of witch society like she did with Coco's, Agott's, Tartah's, Richeh's, and Eunie's backgrounds.
Why is Qifrey not allowed to convey his struggles through his own voice like the apprentices, Luluci, and Dagda? Why do almost every bad adult figure—including Beldaruit who partook in the neglect of Qifrey by the adults around him and blames his own apprentice for being the way he is due to it—escape a call-out for their behavior unlike Luluci's teacher? Why are the Knights Moralis allowed to act like judges, juries, and executioners? Why do they threaten to erase people's memories first instead of asking questions whenever they show up? Why do they not pursue the Brimmed Caps as much as Qifrey has been doing on his own when they are supposed to enforce the law of magic? Where are detectives and attorneys? Why has Luluci been granted kindness and understanding when everyone else—even Agott from the prestigious house of Arkrome—receives nothing but cruelty and ignorance from the Knights Moralis?
Speaking from experience, I find people to be more open to criticism for The Owl House than for Witch Hat Atelier. People such as @imsosocold, @let-us-cultivate-our-garden, @mdhwrites, @peacesmovingcabaret, @the-enchanted-archivist have talked about the flaws of The Owl House but I've never seen anyone examining the series from a critical lens like them on Tumblr or Discord.

Noah's Arc Circus Headcanons (Since nobody ever does them) [Joker and Beast]
Hello, all! I am suffering from writers block at the moment, not to mention I've got finals coming up, but I'm still trying to push myself to post something, so have these random-ish headcanons. (Reminder that I won't be doing all of the characters, just Joker and Beast since I'm stressing lowkey 😭😭- I will definitely write more for the other circus members in the future)
Tumblr media
Joker
Before Joker and the others were took in and founded the circus, he reached a point where he had no hope for his future. He really just thought that was it, and that he'd be living on the streets with his family until he died, probably at a young age too.
As a result, this is why after he and the others were taken in by Baron Kelvin, he felt such a strong obligation to serve him and follow every order he was given.
At first, it was seemingly simple tasks, and I like to believe they were originally hired as servants or something along those lines, but as Kelvin's obsession with Ciel and being perfect took a turn for the worse, that is when he told Joker and the others that he wanted them to run a Circus.
Joker, just being thankful to be under somebody else's care, assumed it was some sort of fundraiser for them to accumulate some extra wealth.
But very quickly, things took a dark turn. In the beginning, there was a lot of arguing (rightfully so), but eventually Joker gave in, feeling like this was his obligation, as if he was paying his dues to Kelvin for taking him in along with the others.
Deep down (not really that deep down, it's very evident to him) he knows what he's doing is horrible, but it's almost like he can't stop, he has to do it to make Father happy. The others have probably tried talking him into going some place else, but nothing seemed like it would work, so they eventually all gave up, feeling the same sense of hopelessness only now with a roof over their head.
(Moving on from the sad backstory, heres some less depressing stuff)
Joker probably takes a while to fall asleep, like...longer than normal. I know I said these would be the less depressing HCs, but I feel like he got so used to having to constantly wake up in fight or flight mode while living on the streets, he probably takes longer to fall asleep even years later.
Consumes so much caffeine. Like he'll probably have 5 cups of tea every day and then coffee if they have it (probably not a lot since coffee wasn't as common in England given most people preferred tea).
But then again, he's a busy man you can't blame him. (totally not projecting.)
Doesn't really think about his mother that much, since he most likely has no idea who she is, but sometimes wishes she'd just keep him and didn't throw him away. He often contemplates how his life could've been different if so and so happened.
Rarely ever gets sick for some reason. Like, the rest of the members have probably gotten a cold or other sickness plenty of times, but Joker just seems to be in decent health all the time, which is somewhat surprising considering how rampant disease is throughout victorian England.
Looking at his hair, it is very intricately done and nice looking. However, some of the little pieces of hair are "crunchy" sometimes because he'll have to use insane amounts of pomade if he's having a bad hair day that day.
Speaking of, he's definitely a little artistic, given that he could style his hair and makeup after living in the streets for most of his life. In the beginning, he would help the other members with their costumes or makeup.
If Joker were to ever be in a relationship (I don't remember if he is or not), he'd be really kind to his partner, always trying to cheer them up and keep them happy.
While he wouldn't exactly be the manipulative type, he'd still be careful to hide everything he's been doing from them, afraid they'll leave him if they know about his actions.
That is, if they don't already know. If he knew that his partner already knew about what he was doing and still decided to be understanding about it, he'd be a lot more comfortable with them, like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders and he has one less person to keep secrets from.
He'd almost constantly give you flowers and do small gestures for you, doing the best with what he has. (I mean, it's a circus..)
Sings to himself kind of often, especially if he's feeling anxious (as seen in the anime). It sort of soothes him and distracts him a bit.
On the surface level, he seems to be a very cheerful and energetic person, but when alone or with the other (original) circus members, he can be much more serious.
If he had a partner, he'd really be sweet to them, but not to a point where he's exaggerating. He'd just be his "normal" self, seeming a bit more quiet than he is to strangers.
Back to the previous point, he would do everything in his power to keep all of the secrets about Kelvin and the missing children from you. If you ever confronted him about whats being said in the newspapers, he'd probably just play it off a mistake, or just bad rhetoric.
As nice as he is, or as he may seem he doesn't give that easily into emotions, which is one thing that makes him so difficult. The others already tried it, but he just doesn't seem to budge whenever anyone brings up the topic of running away or quitting.
"Missing children ya say? ah, don't worry about that- probably just folks who don't want a circus near them is all!" He'd say, making it sound like it was the most obvious thing ever.
He seems just a little too relaxed about it, making it almost suspicious. If you did find out, he'd be devastated. He would probably try to leave you before you can leave him, just assuming that you now hate him.
If you took the opposite route and decided to be understanding, he'd appreciate your empathy very much, but would still be cautious around you for god knows how long, until he fully trusts you again.
He really wishes he could spend more time with you, but he has so much to do all the time.
Probably one of those people that wakes up as soon as the sun comes up. It's like he can literally feel the sun rising, even though the tents have no windows and he's just like "Yeah, I need to get the hell up" 😭
If his mother had the chance to name him, she'd either name him Ryas or Jesse.
Tumblr media
Beast
She knows that Joker is probably never going to consider leaving his job working for Kelvin, but she tries time and time again to get him and the others to run away and find some place else where they don't have to keep doing such bad things.
She honestly feels bad, and if you talk to her personally, you can tell just by looking at her that she isn't happy.
Spends a lot of her time alone, except for when she has to meet up with the other first-string members to discuss important matters.
She never learned how to read until she and the others were taken in by Kelvin. They would all read books to enhance their reading abilities, and while doing so Beast actually found she enjoyed it.
While she doesn't get to read often given her environment, she'd definitely be down for it when given the chance.
While she can come off a bit cold to people she doesn't know, she is seriously the sweetest person ever, like...
She's just such a genuine and nice person, even if she has to do bad things to survive.
She hates working under Kelvin. She hates it. But she is still grateful that she can walk on her own, thanks to the prosthetic limb.
In all honesty, her outfit does make her uncomfortable at times. She wishes she could wear something a bit less revealing, since it gives her a lot of unwanted attention, which she can't stand. Don't even get her started on the creepy stares from some men in the audience, she could go on all day!
A lot of the time when she's alone, she likes to pet and cuddle Betty. It's therapeutic for her to pet her- she definitely considers her a friend, despite her being a tiger for a circus act. Beast really feels like they've bonded over the years.
Speaking of that, she probably has a lot of patience even though it may not seem like it. Think about it, her situation with Joker has probably been getting at her for a while now, but she still hasn't snapped.
As for this specific situation, it's definitely one of those instances where a part of her has given up, but the other part still has hope that things can finally get better and they'll all run away together.
She'd like the smell of sandalwood- to her it's one of those scents that you can't exactly remember where it's from, but it's still kind of comforting and makes you reminisce.
She can't always remember all of her dreams, but she has had multiple nightmares of Kelvin harming her and the others because they "messed up" something.
Beast has a sharp intuition, she kind of knows whats up, even if those around her don't believe it. She can sense when people lie, or when something bad is going to happen.
She's generally just a lot smarter than she has been letting on.
Unlike Joker, Beast seems to be a lot softer. Not in a bad way or that she's "weak", but she's a lot more worried about things, and has a stronger desire for stability and safety than Joker does.
Her gut has been telling her to "get the hell out of here" for years, which is starting to really get to her. She knows that herself and the others are mostly unhappy, so why keep living like this?
If she had a partner, she'd definitely try to get them in on running away. If you agree, or even consider it, it would be like all of her hope has been restored.
All she needs is genuine, real reassurance but she just never seems to get any, which is why she'd probably seek that from her partner.
I imagine if beast was real, she'd have big eyes. Not like inhumanly large or anything, but enough to stand out. (No I'm not just saying this because I love all the girl characters from Black Butler because they're so pretty.)
Gets cold pretty easily which kind of sucks, given how Englands climate is, so she likes when the Circus travels to warmer areas.
But then she sweats, so now it's too hot. She can never catch a break oh my god
Gets so frustrated when her hair won't stay in a certain position after like 50 cans of pomade.
Doesn't get to eat them often, but she loves little cakes and pastries.
She doesn't particularly have a sweet tooth, though. She's okay with most types of foods, but probably doesn't eat spicy stuff.
She really enjoys sleeping, since her mind is finally quiet and thoughtless for once. I feel like she's that one person that always needs a nap.

im not gonna lie, i’m disappointed in the new chapter. it was cute, don’t get me wrong. i love seeing anya and her cute, funny antics. i also enjoyed seeing the progress in damian’s character (like him apologizing) and how his friendship with anya is growing (though i did want to put him on timeout for calling yor a gorilla. not okay. never disrespect yor like that again 😒) BUT i was expecting so much more.
first of all, i’m glad to see loid caring and worrying about anya and her well-being (to the point that he bought a car so she didn’t have to get on a bus again) but the whole “it’s for the mission” shtick is getting old. “my daughter is very traumatized and i need to help her overcome that… for my mission of course!” like sir??? do you hear yourself??? it’s okay to admit you care about her. she’s a toddler who has gone through more than a lot of adults will ever go through in their lifetime. it’s okay, at the very least, to admit you feel compassion for her. i know he’s a very emotionally stunted man who has a lot to work through before he can freely admit he deserves to love and be loved. but i feel like his character development has been on halt for a while now and it’s getting frustrating.
also, while i love the kids and i love their little moments, i wish this episode wouldn’t have focused so much on them. anya just went through such a traumatic and terrifying experience. i wish this chapter would’ve focused more on the forgers and on the parents navigating how to make her feel better after the events of the red circus arc or something. even if the entire chapter was just them going on a family ooting to cheer her up, i would’ve been fine with that. but, instead, we had to wait a month just to see the kids at eden… again.
like i said before, i enjoyed the chapter. but i think i would’ve enjoyed it more if we’d had gotten some forger family moments before the events of this chapter. i just want the focus to be back on the family. that’s all. and i wish loid would’ve shown a little more affection. especially considering the fact that his child could’ve died.

A story about being a fourteen year old girl in New York City
would go something like,
The grown men who hung around Union Square were shady characters. They seemed to live there, though most of them had apartments. My girls and I absolutely did not question their attention. We were their friends.
One of the men could get us acid. None of us had ever tried it. We were about to take the train uptown to pick it up when
His bald head was shiny with sweat. He was zig-zagging unsteadily through the crowd. The wide sweeping arc of those stone stairs, choked with people. No one even looked his way until he
fell. Then they scattered.
Heat of summer. Everyone out. Back then it was Whole Foods across the street from the stairs, and Bank of America. Now there’s a Sephora there, too. They moved it from the other side of the park. It used to be next to Petco.
When the man fell he left a crater in the crowd. It was just the five of us left standing there. Gwyn was the prettiest. I was her best friend.
The old man was gasping. There was some kind of device, a medical accessory I had never seen before attached to his arm. It looked like a robot arm, struts for support with a blue round plastic joint. There was a staple on the man’s elbow, and red blood leaking out.
Our grown-up friends watched us from the shade of the entrance to the subway, smoking cigarettes and letting out long low curse words under the big green dome.
Brianna called 9-1-1.
Earlier that day, we had shoplifted some shirts from Forever 21. Tamiris took one of them out of her bag and ripped it up into strips. One of us was pulling the old man into her lap.
It was me.
His poor half-robot elbow. It was bleeding pretty bad. The staple was doing a pitiful job of holding shut that lenticular window to his slick insides, a red smile laughing across the bent joint. The failing silver staple twinkling, a pupil in an accusing eye.
The bald head was bleeding, too. He hit it when he fell.
I froze at first. Really, he wasn’t moving. And neither was anyone else. There was a moment before he hit the ground, which extended, for me, long after the disaster had settled and decisions were being made. Katy snapped into action, and Gwyn. Even timid Tamiris was helping out.
But I kept seeing the high heeled shoes stepping nimbly out of his way, kept forgetting it was really happening
then remembering again. And the bright thick reality of blood.
There we were, in the middle of that circus ring. In our short-shorts, our crop tops.
Some passerby offered a bottle of water. Tamiris produced another shirt from her bag and we soaked it in the water, dabbed it on his head, tried to make him drink.
Brianna was still on the phone with 9-1-1. She had to shout to be heard. You wouldn’t believe how many people were out at Union Square that day. Every day.
The fold-out tables, crystal sellers, chess-players, musty smelling milk-crates full of books and their shrewd watchful salespeople. Not to mention the bums. Or the constant honking cars. The incense burning. The bicyclists with salubrious death-wishes.
Brianna kept her shit together. Her voice was mighty on the phone. The ambulance’s sirens came wailing from around the back of the park.
We couldn’t think of anything else to do after the shirt thing. His head was on my pale chubby thighs with their million scars.
I wasn’t sure he was breathing. I started to talk to him.
Brianna was a gladiator at the edge of the hole in the crowd. She made sure the ambulance knew exactly where to find us. She did everything right.
But traffic in Manhattan is impossible. To drive in that area is murder. The siren howled a vengeance at us from the corner of East 14th and Broadway for what seemed like hours, caught in a snarl of taxi cabs and the awnings of Halal carts.
Back then I’d pour my heart out to just about anyone. And I really thought the old man might be dead. I was trying to talk him out of it, using my only tool of persuasion, which was an outpouring of love like a taser shock. I guess I thought I could comfort him back to life. I wasn’t thinking clearly.
The world was
me, holding the old man in my arms, and Gwyn, holding his hand. The roar of Manhattan diminishing around that knife of sound, the ambulance, not getting any closer. The reason I thought he was dead is because he was so heavy. The old man was clammy and perfectly limp.
In therapy I learned about 4-4-6 breathing.
I started counting for him, counting,
and crying, for both of us. Then the EMTs broke through
and I fell backwards, hyperventilating, when he was lifted off of me and
away.
Apparently he was just drunk.
That’s what the paramedic told me. The old man was drunk, then he fell. She came to check on me, too, because it looked like I might have fainted.
But I was OK. So was the old man. We got to talk to him before they loaded him in.
His face looked so different when it was alive and smiling. He clasped our hands. He said his name was Stanley Green. He said thank you. We were all pretty much a mess. The paramedics waved goodbye. The ambulance drilled its way back into the clog of traffic, was gone.
In no time at all everyone went back to walking on the stairs where he fell. I couldn’t understand. To me he was kind of still falling.
Our Union Square friends hadn’t gone anywhere. They were waiting to take us uptown. We went with them and got the acid. That wasn’t the end of the day. My curfew was eight. I still had six more hours of freedom.
In the shuffle, Gwyn was left holding on to Stanley’s eyeglasses. They were maroonish, square. Sensible, plastic frames. She solemnly vowed to visit him in the hospital and return them.
But obviously we never saw Stanley Green again.
Maybe Gwyn still has the glasses. Keeping them seems like something she would do. But I would have no way of knowing. I haven’t talked to her in years.
