you sighed, scrolling through your comments. it had been almost a month after your albums release, and some people still were bringing up the hug with charles. i mean, seriously it was just a hug. it wasn't like you guys had made out or anything.
both your label and ferrari were sponsored by celsius, and your management had met with one of ferraris pr heads. they had agreed to work together to promote the new album, and had picked charles because he was a fan of your music.
you clicked instantly on the first day of set, but it also helped that you spoke fluent french (you had an obsession with indila when you were younger and forced yourself to learn it) the lack of a language barrier, coupled with the fact that you guys had similar interests made it inevitable that you both would become friends.
after the album launch party, you were exhausted. you had woken up at 4am for promo shoots, and had been running around all day before singing your whole album (which was around an hour long) to the attendees. it was fun, and you wouldnt trade your career for the whole world, but man you were tired.
as you were heading out, you spotted charles and you both stopped to talk
"tu as bien fait là-dedans" he said, smiling as he pushed his hands into his pockets (you did good in there)
"merci! les heures de pratique m’ont aidé. je pense que je pourrais oublier les paroles si j’essayais" you smile as he laughed (thanks! the hours of practice helped. i dont think i could forget the lyrics if i tried)
"en pratiquant son art on devient artisan" (practice makes perfect)
you nod, turning as you hear your bandmate siobahn call for you
you look back to him, saying your goodbyes and quickly hugging him before running after her.
that was it. just a friendly hug. it's not like he liked you, and if he knew you liked him, you doubt he would still be friends with you.

after having checkmate charles sat back, smiling smugly as he looked at pierre try and fail to make a move. giving up, he raised his hands in defeat.
"quand vais-je jamais te battre?" he said sighing as he chuckled (when will i ever beat you)
"peut-être dans une autre vie" (maybe in another life)
scoffing, pierre changed the subject.
"so i heard you're with some rockstar these days"
"i most definitley am not"
"sure, sure. you might not be dating her but i can tell you like her"
charles paused, having a mini crisis. ok. so maybe he did like you. he couldn't help it, honestly. throughout filming ,and even after he had grown to really admire you. not only just as an artist, but as a person as well. he honestly hoped you'd be able to meet up afterwards, but he hasnt been able to see you since. between his preseason training and your concerts, you both are rarely free, let alone in the same country.
he told all of this to pierre, who listened quietly, nodding along before telling him his masterplan. he was gonna help him out, what kindve friend would he be if he didnt?

I saw you rb a SaiSaku post and was curious if you had any fanfic recs for this rarepair?!
Do I have?!!!!! I am currently binging this ship so you couldn't have asked this at better time.
.
This pair is not a crack ship! Crack would mean they have not shared more than two words with each other. But SaiSaku interactions always bordered on romance and best friends who don't act like it. Not only Sakura was the first person to acknowledge Sai had human side to him and bonded with him over his painting, Sai was also the only person outside Sasuke (in part 1) to be able tell her fake smiles and he always understood her feelings better than other characters. Had Sakura ever only cared for good looks (something she don't) then with Sai she'd get that and so much more.
I have always considered SaiSaku as the next best thing after NaruSaku. They had too much potential as a couple. I am not bitter that InoSai became a thing but looking at them I only feel that "Ino didn't get Sasuke so she get his look-alike." Besides, Sai gave people nicknames that are opposites to what actually feels about them – Naruto as Dickless, Sakura as Hag/Ugly and Ino as Beautiful – which makes it worse. Both Ino and Sai deserve better than this. If Kishi has shown them together more often or had interactions between them similar to SaiSaku then I can understand why Ino is his light. I guess it is also SP's fault for showing them in different light. For all SP hates Sakura, they enjoy messing up with her fans by feeding them false hope.
Whenever I want to read something hilarious but deep, SaiSaku is my to-go couple. Usually angsty, or full bout of insults and punches. There's no in between with them.
. SaiSaku .

This list contains my favorite SaiSaku collection. I am not sure if you like SaiSaku only as romance ship but this list also contain stories that expands on SaiSaku friendship, something I absolutely adore.

Sai glanced downwards at his body, the sudden override of his thoughts causing his mind to blank. What did that mean? Had he been straying too close to a piece of information Danzo didn't want him to have or share? Or was it his mind's natural response to shutting down any form of emotion, even if it was just the slightest of inclination towards feeling something?

Translation: kicker magazine profile about Julian Brandt (July 27, 2020)
Tumblr media
By Thomas Hennecke and Matthias Dersch
Had he made this artistic pass during the corona pandemic with empty stands in the stadium, it would have been a pity. A week before Christmas however, there is almost no free space in the Signal Iduna Park left. Everybody is ripped off their seats – except the RB Leipzig fans – the moment Julian Brandt marks the second goal. Brandt digs deep into his toolbox. Receiving the pass by Sancho, processing the ball, shot. Three actions in one fluent move, south American suppleness with ice-cold efficiency, a master class. Goal of the month December.
Tumblr media
This cool blonde with the jersey number 19 – he is a man for the special moments. A player who makes a difference. And a gambler. A footballer having fun and who lets the difficult things look easy and made his relaxed demeanor a trademark. You can guess why he named Diego (the Bremer, not Maradona”, like Brandt said in BVB-TV) is his idol. The Brazilian used to have the blessings to do great things on the pitch. Diego also had a dream goal in his repertoire: 62,5 meter distance on April 20, 2007 against Alemannia Aachen. End score: 3:1.
The fact Brandt coolness also comes from a sometimes fatal way of risking things, relativizes his actions. You are torn a bit. People who appreciate show, spontaneity, art and creativity will love him more than people adding statistics and all mistakes and how they translate onto the pitch. The ‘Süddeutsche Zeitung’ looks beyond that and celebrated Brandt as a “Player with the Wow-Effect”. Brandt plays passes, so precise they will find almost every gap. As if they were managed by an electronic brain. He celebrates chop passes which look good and find their goals. But he also screws up counter chances with sloppy passes. He gives goals to his opponents with carless back passes. Or he shoots x-times against the goal, without a slightest danger to the goal keepers.
Tumblr media
2019 is the second year with coach Lucien Favre and the so-called “restart”. BVB manager Zorc took a lot of money into his hands, in order to optimize the team. Looking back he wouldn’t be as passionate about some transfers as he was back then – but the 25 million euros for Brandt are still a good and useful investment, Zorc thinks: “Julian is a talented football player and has a lot of potential. He is very active on the pitch, demanding the ball, plays in a self-confidend way and doesn’t hide.”
Then follows the “but”. Zorc follows everything very closely from his box seat on the team bench. He sees mistakes by Brandt, unnecessary mistakes – calles “unforced errors” in tennis. “He still does a lot of them”, Zorc complains. “He has still work to do when it comes to working against the ball, Julian knows that best himself.” Indeed one doesn’t have to look far to find weaknesses. He himself is his biggest critic, the professional once claimed. Yet, he never lets that sort of self-reflection get out of his hands: “I always question myself, whenever I’m not performing well. But I never question the fact that I still can do it.”
Tumblr media
It’s easy to spot: this Brandt-guy is not Mr. Perfect nor a football-playing robot. Rather he is an un-adjusted fine spirit on the pitch. Always in a good mood, with a fresh quote on his lips. During the USA-journey to Seattle last year, he was walking interested through the Museum of Pop Culture where Borussia was celebrating its “Black and Yellow night”. He had some small talk with journalists, he seems relaxed, approachable and cool. The opposite of the footballer clicheé of being arrogant. Brandt is “a fantastic guy” says Captian Marco Reus, “he’s a funny and open guy”.
As engaging, positive and uncomplicated his persona comes across: sometimes however Brandt appears to be less serious about stuff. It’s seems as if an extra scoop of ambition is missing, based on his body language. Unlike many other professionals. “I heard from many people before, about me looking like I’m sort of listlessness I embody”, Brandt said during an interview with the former BVB-player Patrick Owomoyela. Yet he assures: “My inner drive is always there.”
Brandt shows both faces during the game against Leipzig. Magical and faulty. He serves Timo Werner the 2:2-goal on a silver platter with his horrible wrong pass. “Perhaps someday there will be the award: wrong pass of the month”, says the 24 year-old. “I’m sure, I’ll get into the top 5.” BVB-boss Hans Joachim Watzke is face-palming on the stands in that moment. With some distance he likes Brandt’s way of playing. The BVB-boss says: “Julian makes extraordinary mistakes, because you can only play extraordinary if you take risky passes or have risky ideas.”
Tumblr media
Five months later, both major teams in Germany play against each other on the evening of May 26. Borussia against Bayern; light house 2 against light house 1. Dortmund has to win, otherwise the Bundesliga title will be gone and Dortmund starts in a rush. Erling Haaland gets the ball in the midfield after 17 seconds, by winning a head ball against Joshua Kimmich. From the back Brandt storms in front like a speed train, captures the situation, speeds up the game and passes over to Thorgan Hazard with his left foot. The clock ticks – 19 seconds into the game – Manuel Neuer gets out of his goal and saves the situation for Bayern at the last moment. But he passes the ball into Haalands feet. His shot rushes through Neuers feet until Jerome Boating saves it for Bayern on the goal line. Brandt goal celebration dies on his lips. The blitz goal after just one minute – it would have been his act as well.
Same game, 43rd minute. Mats Hummels defending for Dortmund, the ball moves a few meters to the left. Kimmich gets the ball, looks up, sees Roman Bürki standing a bit too far away from the goal, shoots and scores. The guy standing the closest to Kimmich: Brandt. It would have been unfair to make him responsible for the goal alone, half of the team is responsible as well. Yet some people who’s heart is beating for black and yellow would have preferred Brandt at least trying to hinder Kimmich on making his genius shot. He does: nothing.
Tumblr media
He's a day dreamer, Brandt once said. Day dreamers keep strolling through their thoughts. A study found out: day dreamers are capable finding time to dream because their brains have enough space left. In the past day dreaming was understood as a sign of lack of concentration and attention – today people see it as a sign of intelligence and creativity. Like a lost professor: brilliant, sharp mind, yet sunk into his own world.
It is however no explanation for him being passive in front of the goal in May that basically pre-decided the German championship. Brandt made his day dreamer confession in a different context – when asked about a career plan. He doesn’t have one, he said: “Everything that happens in my life, happens spontaneously. I don’t even know what I will be doing in three weeks from now.” Brandt lives his live as free and individual as possible and as disciplined as necessary. He likes to sleep long in the morning and only leave “shortly” in order to just barley making it on time at the training ground. “Every minute is sacred” he says with a wink of an eye. “I don’t know how often I had to pay a penalty for being too late.”
A year Brandt is employed in Dortmund. The statistics are showing respectable numbers. 42 games, seven goals, 13 assists, ten second-pass assists. The season prior in Leverkusen he had seven goals and 15 assists – just in the Bundesliga. He added six scorer points in the DFB Cup then and the Europa League. “I had to find my place during the first months. I played on many positions and didn’t know many of the boys yet. It’s why it was a bit un-harmonic”, says Brandt. “Nevertheless, now I’m “in”. I had a nice year with great moments. I have to say: I’m really satisfied. Everything can get much better. However its was fine for the first year.”
Brandt wanders through the BVB team, gets put into five different roles. The center midfield is the place where he can show his class the best – whenever he has the game in front of him. He can put his instincts and creativity into force and can create chances with his passes. He is basically a lost force when playing way in front. Except against Slavia Prag in the Champions League he confirmed with two assists, Favre decision putting him into the front as a striker. His abilities are also limited once he plays on the wings.
He never has a lack of commitment and engagement. Brandt is running on average 11,85 kilometers in 90 minutes. Nobody of the permanent Dortmund players is running more. He wins 52,4 % of his one-on-ones – more than Sancho (45,6%), Marco Reus (44,6%), Hazard (42,0%) or Haaland (41,4%). His passing with a 84 percent accuracy however still has room for improvement compared to the other specialists like Axel Witsel (94,1%), Dan-Axel Zagadou (91,1%) or Raphael Guerreiro (89,2%).
Tumblr media
Brandt is brilliant in games like against Gladbach (DFB Cup, kicker-grade: 1,5), against Fortuna Düsseldorf or Schalke in the Bundesliga (both 1,5). He has personal low points in Freiburg (sub in and out of the same game; grade: 5), in Munich (grade: 6) and against Milan in the Champions League, where he basically loses the ball in almost every scene. Every game becomes a personal balancing act for the highly skilled national player: he dances on a high wire – here and there he loses his grip and crashes down.
His time in Dortmund started with a glitch. He makes a mistake and drives onto the parking lot of the youth time at 7.45am in the morning. A BVB employee has to show him the way. Brandt decided to leave the comfort zone Leverkusen on purpose. “Dortmund” – he says, “Dortmund is much bigger in terms of media interest, the stadium, the number of fans and in terms of pressure. It’s a different game here. It could make a mark on me and will serve me good.” And then there is the wish to win a title which made him to transfer to Dortmund. It’s about a basic attitude in sports, Brandt said a year ago, “everybody should have the drive to win every game.”
Tumblr media
Because Dortmund only won 28 of their 46 games this past season (seven draws, eleven defeats) a lively debate about coach Favré heats up as well as a discussion about the mentality of the team. No fans will get together in Dortmund and celebrate the fifth second place finish of the team since 2013. Nobody will fill extra pages in historic club chronicles, some BVB players are now suspecting. “We are not satisfied to finish second”, Brandt confesses. “We aren’t angry, but also not satisfied. We want more.” He then sticks up for his colleagues who get criticized for some bad performances and whenever there are doubts about their mentality and the harsh criticism: “We want to the big price. The team is hungry, they are in for it to win titles. The team is capable of that. You have to always aim high.”
Children who are having their first day of school this year, have lived a life only knowing Bayern Munich as German football champions. In order for them to understand that other teams can be successful as well, Dortmund needs to win the “all-or-nothing”-games, Brandt thinks. The duels with the other Bundesliga havy weights: Bayern Munich, Leipzig, Mönchengladbach, Leverkusen. “You have to win those games, if you want to stay on top”, he says. “Yet you also have to take smaller teams seriously. Something like a 3-3 draw against Paderborn is fatal.”
Tumblr media
Borussia Dortmund gave the players four weeks vacation. This Thursday the team will come back together well rested. The months during the corona crisis, the tough hygiene rules of the German Bundesliga, left a mark on Brandt. “It does something to you”, he confesses, “you don’t see many people. You see your family, perhaps a few friends. Otherwise: nobody. You are happy to be able to go out and have some freedoms again.” Now he can go out again – at least a bit.

Uncanny X-Men #1 “Disassembled - Part 1”
Writers: Ed Brisson, Matthew Rosenberg & Kelly Thompson | Artist: Mahmud Asrar | Colourist: Rachelle Rosenberg | Letters: Joe Caramagna
Published by Marvel | 14.11.2018 | $7.99
It’s only been since early 2017 since there’s been an Uncanny X-Men series on the stands, but this almost two years has felt like an eternity as the team has been split into Blue, Gold, and Red instances. This new Uncanny X-Men #1 works to bring them back under the same umbrella as a new threat looms over the heads of Marvel’s merry mutants.
Tumblr media
This issue kicks off with an ominous vision and warning to Jean from Multiple Man that sets the tone of confusion and questioning some impending catastrophe on its way.
Ed Brisson, Matthew Rosenberg, and Kelly Thompson start out the series with a number of events that would otherwise seem to be routine: Kitty taking a group of students on a field run against c-list second stringer villains like the Mutant Liberation Front and Jean and a group of veteran X-Men to a rally full of anti-mutant hate speech. It’s old hat in both cases, but it gets turned on its ear pretty quick. Something massive goes wrong when Kitty disappears and it just snowballs when Madrox freaks out at the news.
There’s some very nice use of humour throughout, and an interesting bit of character development from the Young X-Men/Academy X group as they begin questioning their place within the X-Men. It’s also really nice to see Cannonball with the X-Men again, it’s been awhile.
Of the puzzles raised, the flash evolution in the Kalahari makes me wonder if there’s a bit of Apocalypse’s technology involved, as we saw in the recent back-ups in X-Men Black. If someone else is using it to help feed and nourish people in Botswana. The random teleportations are also kind of weird, especially when it occurs to both Madrox and Senator Allen.
Tumblr media
Mahmud Asrar handles the art chores for this opening salvo, and for the most part the artwork is gorgeous. Asrar and Rachelle Rosenberg produce some incredibly beautiful pieces throughout the story, in particular the Beast and Storm scene in Africa. Great composition and colour use.
The action throughout is also wonderful. The battle between the X-Men and the Mutant Liberation Front is impressive and the latter fight with the multiplicity of Madroxes is incredible. Many moving parts with so many people--albeit the same person--that just adds to the chaos of this story.
I am, however, a little disappointed in the sequence in front of City Hall. The backgrounds and mob of Madroxes are incredible, packing a large amount of detail into the pages. My problem comes in the X-Men themselves. In their civilian clothes, they’re kind of bland. Indistinguishable from one another in a couple of cases. Other than Jean and Betsy due to their hair colour, and Bishop and Jubilee due they’re distinctive looks, without naming them through the dialogue, I wouldn’t have been able to tell you with certainty who they were. Angel and Cannonball might have well been the same person. If the intent, though, was to make them blend into the crowd as nothing special, it worked.
Tumblr media
Ultimately, this feels like an end more than a beginning. Kind of like how Avengers: No Surrender was a big last hurrah for the various Avengers titles before the Jason Aaron and Ed McGuinness relaunch. We know that Uncanny X-Men is carrying on past this arc, though, so it makes it a bit more interesting. Making me wonder if this is more of a winnowing process to refocus and repurpose the X-Men from the current status quo to whatever it is that comes next.
It’s very chaotic, and there are a ton of questions raised as to what’s going on, but it’s not messy. The chaos and confusion are definitely deliberate meant to make everyone, including both characters and the audience, wonder what’s happening. I think Brisson, Rosenberg, and Thompson have done a great job of capturing the feel of the X-Men and successfully crafted an intriguing starting point for this series.
Tumblr media
“What Tomorrow Brings”
Part One: A Bishop Story - Writer: Matthew Rosenberg | Artist: Mirko Colak
Part Two: A Jean Grey Story - Writer: Kelly Thompson | Artist: Ibraim Roberson
Part Three: An Armor & Anole Story - Writer: Ed Brisson | Penciller: Mark Bagley | Inker: Andrew Hennessy
Epilogue - Writer: Kelly Thompson | Penciller: Mark Bagley | Inker: Andrew Hennessy
Colourist: Guru e-FX | Letters: Joe Caramagna
There’s also a back-up story, broken down into parts for each of the main writers individually, that deals with some moments before the events of the main story.
Tumblr media
The first is a Bishop vignette from Rosenberg and Mirko Colak. It focuses on a little device that warns Bishop of forthcoming temporal problems and an investigation that leads him to Dark Beast and the Sugar Man. The inclusion of Age of Apocalypse holdovers and what’s happening to them is definitely an interesting point. Kind of makes you wonder if someone’s cleaning up other anomalies in a similar fashion to what’s been going on in Extermination.
Tumblr media
The second is a bizarre coffee shop conversation about hope and the sad state of the world between Jean Grey and a strange old woman, by Thompson and Ibraim Roberson. Roberson’s art is great and his Jean Grey is gorgeous, looking somewhere between Jessica Chastain and Bryce Dallas Howard. Really weird end bit as the coffee shop is invaded by some sort of person who seems able to psychically take over multiple people’s minds to do as they wish.
Tumblr media
The third part and the epilogue are both handled by Mark Bagley and Andrew Hennessy for art. Brisson tackles the third sequence, getting somewhat meta with Armor and Anole as they complain about being sidelined. With another appearance from Dark Beast, raising more questions about what’s going on.
Thompson handles the epilogue, bringing together all three parts, and giving a bit of insight into a broader battle between two unknown groups. The first is the psychic who seems to able to achieve a hive mind and the other is “him” who is likely the old woman that Jean was speaking to earlier. It makes you wonder if these are the agents who’ve been causing the havoc in the main story, if maybe this psychic is controlling Madrox (or is a Madrox) which is why Jean and Betsy have a difficult time reading him.

The digital edition of Uncanny X-Men #1 on Comixology comes as the “Director’s Edition” and also comes with an additional bit of back material. There’s the script, art transitions from line art to coloured pages, sketches and designs, covers, and such. It’s interesting to see this look behind the curtain and it increases the page count to nearly a whopping 300. All for the same price as the regular print edition.

Uncanny X-Men #2 “Disassembled - Part 2”
Writers: Ed Brisson, Matthew Rosenberg & Kelly Thompson | Penciller: RB Silva| Inker: Adriano Di Benedetto | Colourist: Rachelle Rosenberg | Letters: Joe Caramagna
Published by Marvel | 21.11.2018 | $3.99
Uncanny X-Men #2 continues the chaos of the first issue, with even more strange occurrences breaking out across the globe as extinct animals resurface and a multiplicity of Madroxes manifests in Kansas which can be seen from space.
Tumblr media
I actually think I liked this one more than the first issue, even though it follows along much of the same lines as the first one, as the X-Men are in disarray, chaos is erupting across the globe, and we’re still not sure what’s going on anywhere.
Ed Brisson, Matthew Rosenberg, and Kelly Thompson put the disappearance of Kitty and Senator Allen on hold for a bit as they split into teams to deal with the disasters popping up, that seem to have the same energy signature as the disappearances. It makes me wonder if these are ripple effects from the messing with time from Multiple Man--especially since he’s an unintentional major antagonist so far--or if maybe it’s a repercussion from however Extermination ends (or, of course, it could just be X-Man).
Splitting into smaller teams to handle the issues, witty banter among the cast who treat each other like family, impossible odds, and impressive action pieces, I have to say that this really does feel like the X-Men. If that makes any sense. The humour itself really goes a long way to make this just that more enjoyable.
Also enjoy the simmering sub-plot of the younger mutants. And there goes Beast, always doing the stupid thing.
RB Silva and Adriano Di Benedetto take over the art chores for this chapter. Although I can’t say I’m a fan of the approach that this series is taking to the rotating art teams (each issue has a different art team), as I’d prefer the teams in blocks similar to how Avengers: No Surrender dealt with it, for overall consistency in storytelling and visual appearance when read in one go, Silva and Di Benedetto deliver some very strong artwork. The action sequences with the dinosaurs is particularly impressive. How they handle the Madroxes is also great.
I’m not as sold on the new Betsy Braddock. I really appreciate the reversion to a variation on her original body and ethnicity, I think that was a change long in the making. I don’t know about her overall new design though. Her costume is kind of generic, and she herself just kind of seems...bland. I quite liked the appearance of the psychic sword and shield in the previous issue, and reminding everyone that’s she’s really British through the bloody dialogue last issue and mentioning Brian this issue are nice, but it still feels like more work needs to be done on defining who Psylocke is again.
There are some very nice uses of colour schemes for the various locations from Rachelle Rosenberg that help clarifying and delineate the sequences. It’s a nice, simple visual cue to help alleviate any possible confusion from scene changes.
Tumblr media
While we’re still a little in the dark, the action and intrigue is entertaining and the tension in the plot feels palpable, just waiting for everything to explode overall. There are some nice character moments and an impression that all of the different corners of the X-universe are going to be touched upon at some point.
I’m definitely hooked to see where this going to go.
Quick Bits:
Domino #8 concludes, kind of, the vampire arc, though it feels like there should definitely be more coming somewhere down the line. Excellent artwork from David Baldeón and Jesus Aburtov. Aburtov’s colours this issue are particularly impressive, from the snow to rays of sunlight penetrating the ocean.
Tumblr media
Exiles #10 brings the Thousand and One Nights arc to an end with a confrontation between the Exiles and Caliph Doom. All of the series has been great so far, but this one seems to really have elevated things. Saladin Ahmed, Javier Rodríguez, Álvaro López, Muntsa Vicente, and Joe Caramagna really seem to have gone all out on this arc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Astonishing X-Men #17 concludes the series, tying a bow on the Reavers. Matthew Rosenberg gives us some nice character development for Havok and a rejuvenated Banshee.
Tumblr media
Mr. & Mrs. X #5 concludes the first arc with some absolutely huge ramifications for Rogue. I’ve never really much liked Gambit, but Kelly Thompson is certainly bringing me around on him for this series, that’s a pretty huge accomplishment. Also, the art this issue from Oscar Bazaldua and Frank D’Armata is gorgeous.
Tumblr media
Weapon H #10 has some stunning artwork from Guiu Vilanova and Morry Hollowell. Some of the layouts this issue as Morgan Le Fay drops some truth on the characters are amazing. Greg Pak delivers a few surprising revelations this issue, along with Weapon H’s full name. It’s a shame that this series is ending soon, since it continues to be an exciting and fun ride.
Tumblr media
Weapon X #26 is one of the best issues yet from Greg Pak, Fred Van Lente, Luca Pizzari, Roberto Di Salvo, Frank D’Armata, and Joe Caramagna as the team goes to hell. Some interesting representations of each character’s hell and Sabretooth’s moral balance, but I think one of the most interesting things is the use of the 9-panel grids. It gives a feel that hell is ordered, structured, that all of the suffering has a design and is not just chaos.
Tumblr media
The Unexamined: Secret Agent Deadpool #6
Tumblr media
d. emerson eddy thinks it’s probably X-Man’s fault. It’s always X-Man’s fault. Unless it’s Beast’s. He’s pretty good at gumming up the works and perennially doing the wrong thing for the past decade or so too.

X-POSITION: Marc Guggenheim Gets Back To Basics With X-Men Gold
ResurrXion is upon us, and readers have now experienced the debut issues of the X-Men line’s new flagship titles. With its release last week, “X-Men Gold” #1 featured a return to form for Marvel’s mutants as the new lineup, led by Kitty Pryde, took on Terrax and proved to the world that the X-Men are still in the business of saving the day. Thanks to the book’s twice-a-month shipping schedule, readers will get to see where Marc Guggenheim takes the team next in a fast fashion.
RELATED: X-Men Gold: The New Brotherhood X-Plained
This week in X-POSITION, “X-Men Gold” writer Marc Guggenheim returns and answers all of your questions about the new team, the potential for an Excalibur reunion and more. This interview was also conducted prior to the recent controversy surrounding “X-Men Gold” artist Ardian Syaf.
CBR News: Welcome back to X-POSITION, Marc! Let’s start with a big picture question from Anduinel.
On a project like this, where the theme is explicitly “back to basics,” how do you judge which elements of the franchise should be considered classic enough to bring back to the forefront intact, which ones to update, and which ones perhaps haven’t aged so well over the decades?
Terrific question. For me, the most important element of the franchise to bring back is the notion that the X-Men are heroes working to protect a world that hates and fears them. That conceit is my north star and it drives all the other creative choices. Admittedly, some of those creative choices are driven by my own sense of what’s “classic,” my own sense of nostalgia. The team lineup is probably the best example of that. The first issue of “X-Men” that I ever read was “Uncanny” #139. With the exception of Rachel (and, if one wants to quibble, Old Man Logan), the lineup I chose for “Gold” is drawn from what, for me, was a seminal read.
That said, I think there’s a reason why a lot of elements of the franchise have endured and even thrived for decades. I see my job mainly as presenting those elements as best I can, in the most interesting ways I can. That’s the other piece of the “back to the basics approach” — reducing the X-Men back down to their core conceits — returning to “first principles,” as it were — then building up from there.
There’s another classic team that your lineup resembles, and Askanipsion has a question about it.
Thank you for having Kitty, Kurt and Rachel on the team. Any chance we will get a reunion with Brian Braddock & Meggan?
Totally a possibility. I love “Excalibur.” I thought it was such an interesting premise for an X-book. And I’d love the opportunity to revisit the history that Kitty, Kurt and Rachel have with Brian and Meggan.
It’s a real testament to the strength of the X-Men franchise that there are so many beloved characters. I feel like I could write the book for as long as Chris Claremont did and never get to them all.
With the X-Men now acting as public heroes, Valamist has a question about the role “X-Men Gold” plays in the Marvel Universe.
Given how a part of Kitty’s plan as leader seems to be making the X-Men into more recognizable heroes to the world, is there any plans to see the “Gold” team interact with the wider MU? Such as the Avengers, Defenders etc?
Absolutely. Kitty moved the X-Men to Central Park so they wouldn’t be segregated off from the rest of society, and that includes the various other heroes of the Marvel Universe. The first example of this will be in Issue #6.
Next up, Maestroneto wants to know more about one of the book’s potential romantic subplots.
How are we supposed to feel about Colossus’ feelings over Kitty? He’s moved into her room when she left to get married and now he’s hanging around her. Is this supposed to be romantic or creepy?
Oh, boy.
Thanks to my work on “Arrow,” I’ve got a little familiarity with how everyone’s mileage varies when it comes to romantic subplots. For some fans — not all, but some — relationship storylines are these Rorschach tests where people see what they want to see in the story. I can absolutely see where some people might find Peter’s behavior creepy, while others find him extremely romantic. And I’m sure that there are other people who would place his behavior somewhere in the middle of that spectrum. I will say that my intention isn’t to turn Peter into “creepy stalker guy.” Make of that what you will — so long as my Twitter isn’t full of “Guggenheim thinks creepy behavior is romantic” mentions…
Don’t “@” him! Moving on, we have a question from Purplevit about a certain Ragin’ Cajun.
Will Gambit join the Gold team or just appear as guest star? Did you like to write him?
For the moment, he’s just a guest star — albeit a pivotal one — in our second arc. But I love Gambit and he’s enormously fun to write. He’s got buckets of charisma and a devil-may-care attitude that defies you not to like him.
“X-Men: Gold” #4 cover by Ardian Syaf
Since “X-Men Gold” is set at the school, ţh€ €жţяą-๏яďɨɲąя¥ Tycon wants to know if we’ll see one student in particular.
Considering some of the X-Men graduated, most of them seem to be heading out with other teams or ending up back at the school. One glaring problem is the missing members of the New X-Men — especially Dust, who we haven’t seen have an important role since “Schism.” I know you loved using Dust in “Young X-Men,” so is there a chance we may see her soon in “X-Men Gold”?
You’re right, I love Dust. And I think given the current political climate, it’s more important than ever to include a Muslim in the X-Men’s ranks. My hope is to get her into the book for our “Secret Empire” tie-in.
Here’s a question from Steroid about a character you did use in “X-Men Gold” #1 — although not in the way people expected.
Loved the first issue. My question is what made you go with the decision to create a new Pyro instead of resurrecting the classic old one?
First, thank you. Glad you enjoyed the first issue.
Second, great question. The answer lies in the fact that Daniel Ketchum and I share a great affection for Pyro and Avalanche. Both of us wanted to see them represented in some way on the roster of the New Brotherhood of Evil Mutants? (Or is that New New New Brotherhood of Evil Mutants? It’s hard to keep track.) But Pyro and Avalanche both being dead presented something of a problem, as you might imagine. It made more sense to me to create new iterations of them rather than have dual resurrections. Also, when the truth comes out about the New Brotherhood, I think you’ll see why it made more sense to have new iterations of Pyro and Avalanche.
Our next question comes from Scott. (EDITOR’S NOTE: This X-POSITION interview was conducted before recent news broke about “X-Men Gold” artist Ardian Syaf.)
You’ve got an aggressive release schedule for “X-Men Gold,” coming out every two weeks. How are the art duties being split up? Will Ardian Syaf be just churning out a book a fortnight? Seems unlikely. Rotating artists? One arc each? I know it’s a little “inside baseball” but I haven’t seen anything about any other artists being involved.
Well, lemme tell ya! We have a murderer’s row of rotating artists. RB Silva is drawing our second arc and Ken Lashley is drawing our third arc.
“X-Men Gold” #7 cover by Ken Lashley
Here’s a question from Kamose1234 about the franchise’s central metaphor.
In issue #1 we saw the Gold team express some anger over the renewed racism against them, but will they have to deal with it more forcefully given Ms. Nance’s organization? As a person of color, I’ve always appreciated the X-Men’s fight against intolerance and I feel we need to see more of this given today’s real world condition.
I absolutely agree with you. I think the X-Men franchise is at its best when it holds a mirror up to real world events. That’s absolutely what I’m trying to do with “Gold,” albeit without turning the book into a polemic. You guys will tell me if I’ve struck the right balance.
As to your question, I think what makes the X-Men so heroic is that they don’t get angry in the face of prejudice and bigotry. Rather, they respond with greater resolve. You’ll see a confrontation between the X-Men and Lydia Nance sooner than you might expect. It might be my favorite moment of my run thus far.
And we’ll close out this week with a question from Chad about one character fans want to see more of.
Will Magik be making an appearance? During the “Prime” issue, Kitty tells her she has a job for her to do….was it to bring the X-Mansion back? Will she still serve with the team? I need you to say “yes”!
The “job” was certainly to move the X-Mansion from Limbo to Central Park, but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of Illyana. At the moment, I have her in the script I’m writing presently. We have so many great characters to play with, things can and do change as this stage of the writing, but I promise you haven’t seen the last of Magik.
Special thanks to Marc Guggenheim for taking on this week’s questions!
Keep checking CBR for information about the next X-POSITION!

13 things you might have missed from the 2017 NFL owners meeting
Tony Romo at CBS? Geno Smith a QB of the future? And what’s up with those Richard Sherman trade rumors?
The 2017 NFL Annual Meeting united owners, head coaches, and a gaggle of media members eager to fill the ovoid hole in Americans’ collective hearts this week. While some of the league’s new ventures generated 32-point headlines — farewell, Oakland, hello Las Vegas — many more slipped under the radar as team executives plowed through a litany of interviews and reporter requests.
Relocation and a handful of rules aimed at making the game safer weren’t the only notable pieces to come out of Phoenix. Nearly every team tipped their hands as to what the upcoming season holds, whether it’s cutting veterans, adding free agents, or potential players they’ll target through the draft.
We sifted through those unscripted comments and off-the-cuff remarks to break down some of the most interesting tidbits that fans may have overlooked.
1. Tony Romo’s next gig?
Tony Romo has said he wants to keep playing, but that hasn’t stopped different networks from courting the soon-to-be 37-year-old:
One tidbit on #Cowboys QB Tony Romo: CBS is eyeing him as a potential replacement for Phil Simms in the booth. A big-time opportunity looms.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 29, 2017
2. Dan Quinn is not one of you, Atlantans
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
LOL someone just asked Dan Quinn a question about Big Boi and got a dumbfounded "who?"
— Ryan Burns (@FtblSickness) March 29, 2017
3. Pete Carroll would like to talk about some conspiracies on his mind
Head coach Pete Carroll used his breakfast time to address a pair of big rumors swirling around his organization.
Pete Carroll on Marshawn Lynch: "I have talked to him and I haven't gotten any indication" whether he's coming back.
— Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) March 29, 2017
Minutes later, he tried to squash any idea of Richard Sherman trade, but may have inadvertently given that news new life.
Pete Carroll on Richard Sherman trade rumors: "I don't see anything happening at all.''
— Bob Condotta (@bcondotta) March 29, 2017
4. Bengals will only trade AJ McCarron for the right price
Backup quarterback AJ McCarron is available via trade, but Marvis Lewis isn’t sure he wants to make a move with a divisional rival.
“AJ McCarron is a valuable member of our football team,” Lewis said. “No one has asked to trade him. We’re not going to go out and seek a trade for AJ McCarron. He’s a valuable member of the team. We’ve said that how many times?
“Regardless of what team it is. Regardless of what division it is,” Lewis said in regard to doing business with Cleveland. “Normally the saying, if the price is right people do whatever you need them to do. So I think anything is possible until it’s not.”
5. Doug Pederson doesn’t know where Carson Wentz is
The Eagles head coach is very literal.
Q: Can you talk about where Carson Wentz is right now? Doug: Well I don’t know where he is right now. Q: In terms of development Doug: Oh
— Brandon Lee Gowton (@BrandonGowton) March 29, 2017
6. Broncos or Saints might take chance on Joe Mixon, but Patriots won’t
The Broncos need a running back after burning through a Devontae Booker, Kapri Bibbs, Justin Forsett, C.J. Anderson platoon last fall. That could mean they’re willing to gamble on Oklahoma’s Joe Mixon, despite his off-field trouble. They’re not the only ones.
Sean Payton told me they will bring Joe Mixon in for a visit. They want to get to know him.
— Nick Underhill (@nick_underhill) March 29, 2017
Several teams are interested in adding the talented Sooner, but the New England Patriots are not one of them.
7. Marty B appreciates Mike McCarthy’s creative mind
Why did Martellus Bennett sign with the Packers? Green Bay’s head coach thinks the two are kindred souls.
“I was really impressed with his personality,” McCarthy told Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “Frankly, I may not look like it, (but) I kind of classify myself as a creative person. I’m married to an artist, and all my children are very creative. So I live in that type. That’s a reflection of my household with my wife Jessica and I.
“So sitting down and talking to Marty and his interests, and some of the things he does, he’s an extremely creative individual. When I meet people, I’m always curious on their view in life, how they look at things and how they process things. I enjoyed his view on life, the things he wants to accomplish.”
8. Rams are trying to erase the sins of Jeff Fisher
Sean McVay’s first offseason as a head coach has introduced him to TMZ (which published a story about the house he bought) and made sure to avoid one of his predecessor’s most avoidable mistakes by linking up with one of the franchise’s living legends.
Sean McVay talked to Eric Dickerson the day he got hired. Plans to have him around a lot. Good move
— ryan van bibber (@justRVB) March 29, 2017
9. Giants could be eyeing Geno Smith to take over for Eli one day
The Geno Smith era could be the next step after Eli Manning decides to call it quits.
“[Smith] has a compact throwing motion, you like his profile, he has a quick release, gets it out of his hand, a ton of arm strength, he’s mobile so it will be interesting,” Giants coach Ben McAdoo said.
Though it comes with a lot of caveats:
McAdoo says "I don't see why not" when asked is Geno Smith could eventually be Eli's replacement. But lot of work to be done.
— Paul Schwartz (@NYPost_Schwartz) March 28, 2017
“We’re a long way to go from there,” McAdoo said. “I think he’s right in the mix of one of the better players available this year.”
10. Big Ben not going anywhere, as we all know
No surprise here — even Steelers’ management expects Ben Roethlisberger to come back for the 2017 season.
Art Rooney just now to NFL Network about Roethlisbwrger: I fully expect him back. http://pic.twitter.com/hhbOMYFMHw
— Mark Kaboly (@MarkKaboly) March 28, 2017
11. Bengals publicly support Adam Jones after latest incident
After Jones’ felony charge was dropped, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis and owner Mike Brown have both come to the veteran cornerback’s defense.
“His case continues to move forward. It will be whatever it is,” Lewis said.
“I’m going to give him a chance,” said Brown. “I hope it comes out right for him, for his family and for us. I know there are critics. I understand. But that is a full answer. And that’s what I have to say about it."
Jones quickly responded to the decision made by his team’s owner and coach with gratitude.
12. Cardinals’ offense is due for an upgrade
The Cardinals have plenty of questions to answer about their offense after a 7-8-1 slump in 2016. Their plan? More touches for David Johnson, a change in position for Andre Ellington, and maybe even a new quarterback.
Bruce Arians on drafting a QB: "It would be one of the best situations for a young quarterback to walk into... for as long as it takes."
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 29, 2017
#Cardinals Arians says only one of the college QB prospects is ready to start as a rookie. "Others will need time." Wouldn't say which one
— Mary Kay Cabot (@MaryKayCabot) March 29, 2017
13. Panthers could target an impact running back in the first round
The Panthers have the eighth pick in the 2017 NFL draft. Could Leonard Fournette be the offensive spark the franchise needs to return to the playoffs?
#Panthers coach Ron Rivera says he'll be at Leonard Fournette's Pro Day. Wants to see him up close... adds no spot "too high" to take a RB
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 29, 2017
There were also rumors the Panthers were interested in trading up with the 49ers for the No. 2 pick, though if Fournette is who they’re targeting, he’ll still probably be there at No. 8.

Raven Black Interviews Norman Reedus
Recently, I sat down with one of the stars of the movies The Boondock Saints I & II the actor Norman Reedus (Murphy McManus in Boondock Saints),actor, model, cinematographer, director and artist.
RB: I understand your movie The Beatnicks is finally coming out on DVD. Why did it take so long to be released?
NR: Not sure why. There was one producer on that. I think he did the best he could and that film was really done all the way around out of love for the people involved and turned out much cooler than any of us thought it would,I think. He's been promoting it finally and it's getting a lot of show,so right on Garen. www.facebook.com/pages/Team-Be…
RB: There is another movie of yours Styrofoam Soul, is it set to be released sometime soon? We have heard about it and seen the short video for it but have heard nothing else about it.
NR: Again I'm not sure when or where that will turn up. It was only a short film to begin with. There were talks of it becoming a TV show even at one point these are more producer questions than acting questions. I'm usually last to know. Ha. RB: Out of all the movies you have done and all the characters you have played, which character did you find to be most challenging? Which character did you like the most?
NR: I'm a big Murphy fan. But,Harry in Six Ways to Sunday maybe was the most fun etc. Challenging sometimes equals fun. Well in that case it did, it was earlier in my career and Harry had a lot to overcome split personalities , needing to have sex with his mom. etc etc. bloodlust.
RB: Are there any movies you have done, that do not already have a sequel in the making, that you would like to see made into a sequel? (i.e. Red Canyon 2 ect.)
NR: Good question Six Ways I left town at the end on a bus with mom in a body bag, that might be fun.
RB: You're an artist, photographer, model and an actor. What one of these professions would you like to pursue most?
NR: Ha,well they kinda all go hand in hand I make stuff I do what I know or try and learn what I like try and surround myself with things I like and find interesting. The model thing was kinda a fluke I'm not really physically right for that job if I wasn't in films nobody would probably take my picture. I'm still very involved as much as I can be with the other three. RB: In your art what inspires you most?
NR: My mood or thoughts when I start something. I have lingering feelings like everyone does and I obsess a bit on just about everything and that usually changes. Even if it's just what catches my eye in a photo. I can be depressed and notice things that would follow and change 100%. Other people inspire me. People that put themselves out there. Quiet people as well, Mingus and my friends and then moods they're in.
RB: For people who do not know your work as well, what is your favorite subject material to photograph?
NR: Hmm people probably. I usually photo people. I go thru stages I had a show of crumpled metal I found pretty. But people are the best for me. I think lots others would say the same. maybe situations but those also just involve people in the end really.
RB: Are you planning on having another exhibit of your work soon?
NR: Yeah. Majorca keeps getting pushed back (influenza epidemic etc etc ), and a book.
RB: Can you tell us about some of your most recent pieces?
NR: A lot of horror.
RB: You have been rather busy lately working on some new movies. Can you tell us about them?
NR: Yeah I'm on one now in Germany as I write this its 5:30 am. I'm jet lagged. I'm directing hopefully soon "I was a white slave in Harlem ", based on the book of the same title, about life of Margot Howard Howard. YouTube it.
RB: The most recent installment of The Boondock Saints was excellent and everyone wants to know if there is a Boondock Saints 3 in the works. Do you know anything about that or is Troy keeping things under wraps?
NR: Ask Troy.
RB: So when you are not making movies, what do you do to relax and just clear your head?
NR: Ride my motorcycle, play with mingus, kiss my girl, chase my cat.
RB: I recently listened to the Podcast interview by Adam Lippe with you, Sean and Troy. At one point in the interview, you sounded rather irritated (although the interviewer was a jerk) and you got up and walked away. Can you explain what it was that drove you to do that?
NR: He came in opinionated and rude. I don't care if you hate a movie. It's just a movie you know? Troy worked his ass off on those movies as did we. But he came at Troy in an aggressive way, in an interview all of us sat down to give him. What's that dude done? It's easy to be a critic, everyone's one, but be decent. He came at him, pissed me off. Troy handled it much better than I did.
RB: You have inspired a lot of your fans (myself included) to pursue similar career fields in modeling, acting, scriptwriting, photography, cinematography and visual effects. What advice do you have for them?
NR: Yikes. There's better people than me to get inspiration from. I'm not super comfortable with this to be honest I feel so low on that totem pole. I'm just learning things. trying configure it out myself.
RB: Finally, is there anything you would like to let your fans know about you? Anything they do not already know?
NR: Just that I really really do appreciate them, I really do. I'm surprised I get to have this cool life and I'm trying to make it cooler and myself more deserving all the time. I expected to end up with much less and It keeps getting brighter all the time. so thank you.
RB: Thank You again Mr. Reedus, I know your time is limited and this means a lot to me that you could do this. I hope to converse with you again in the future.
NR: No sweat hope you get an A.
