Tumblrwoman Election Wrap-Up
To celebrate the end of this election, I'm gonna answer the rest of your questions!
First off:
Thanks everyone for participating! This ended up way bigger than expected. It was pretty exciting, seeing everybody chime in and participate.
Shoutout ESPECIALLY to all the people making fanarts, memes, etc... you people are incredible!!! Most of it can be found under #twe23, be sure to check it out, everybody!
Here's some highlights you people have made:
this github live number tracker made by @twilight-sparkle-irl during the vriska/katya poll. A THRILLING read!
this hollow knight miku oc by @anonymous-utility!! shes so cute...
@seasoned-cabbage made a wiki sandbox for the polls... it's so satisfying to see the stats laid out like this : D
@unidentifiedfroggy wrote fanfiction that just perfectly encapsulates the whole experience : ' )
General Q&A
"Who did you want to win?"
I myself think Vriska deserved the title most! I think vriska is just as integral to tumblr as Cecil is, if not more.
As for the other 2 involved, they didn't really care who won!
How often did you hear "Why are you pitting 2 bad bitches against each other"?
Often! One of us was going to count, but he got so annoyed that he stopped. You people need to get a new sentence.
"Why are there minors in a tumblrsexywoman contest?"
It's not a tumblr sexywoman contest, it's a tumblrwoman election! Before we made the poll, we considered whether it's better to throw out the minors or remove the "sexy" angle. We decided on the latter, mostly because this kind of competition would feel incomplete without tumblrgirls like miku and vriska.
Will you be doing this again next year?
Hm, not sure. Probably not! At least, I wasn't planning on it. We did this on a whim, and this is (SUPPOSED TO BE) my art blog.
I might make a blog for it next year, if these are still relevant and the demand is high (which i highly doubt).
Why didn't you answer my question?
I got like 130 asks this week and most of them were cries of pain and outrage. I was also incredibly busy irl until a day ago. If I didn't answer your question, Sorry!
Concerns about Corruption
According to the tags on these, every single one of the polls was rigged in some way or another. Particularly grievous examples of this were Miku's loss (I suspect Vriskavoters doing foul play (I am vriskavoters. I voted Bayonetta to sabotage Miku. Then i spent the whole day listening to Miku voicebank comparisons.)), and Marcie's win (Somebody accused the Adventure time subreddit of having swamped the poll. The post in question had 19 upvotes. The poll on tumblr had 92,123 votes).
What's more, I've been offered bribes!! Several american dollars! The political landscape of tumblr sure is a scary place...
Manners
Some of you really don't know how to act. This goes out to a small (but very, very vocal) minority - don't be a dick! Just because it's the internet does not mean you can just insult random strangers! This is a poll about fictional women, this is NOT a place to call people the r-word or imply someone is stupid for liking a character.
Some people left pretty graphic, violent messages. Most of these were jokes, but still. Take caution with the words you choose. This should go without saying, but telling strangers to "eat glass" and the like is not acceptable behaviour.
In the end, this was a competition between fictional characters, so seeing people arguing in the replies and trying to gain some sort of moral high ground was a little bit saddening.
Most of you were nice though, luckily : )
Thanks
To everyone who left kind messages, to everyone engaging and having fun, the fan art, the posts, to everyone expressing their thanks to us - thank you!!!
In the end, this was a lot of fun, and it was nice to see the website come together like that!
What's next?
For the next few days, I'm going to be promoting my friends' projects as much as I can to scare all of you people off of my blog.
I got WAY too many followers from this and frankly, that is simply not acceptable. You all need to leave NOW, because I want to get back to posting art eventually and I would rather not be on everybody's timeline.
That's why I have decided to become a massive sell out and reblog my friends' stuff on main for a bit. Peace!

OK so I've been thinking, if RTD absolutely didn't want to go down the root of having a multi-Doctor/multi-companion extravaganza for the 60th, and wanted to go down a more subtle route using old villains and obscure comics to celebrate the show's history, imagine if instead of making the only real "anniversary" elements of the story be his Doctor and his companion, RTD had done the unthinkable, and asked Jodie and Mandip to stay on.
Obviously, there are multiple reasons why that didn't happen. Ultimately Thirteen and Yaz are Chris Chibnall's characters, and RTD may not have wanted to add to Chibnall's story. I'm also aware that Jodie and Mandip thought Chibnall's departure was the right time for them to go, so this ultimately wasn't down to RTD. But I do think (with Chibnall's blessing) he could've convinced them to come back with a good story.
I'm also aware that Jodie had a baby after filming POTD, and needed time away. However, since returning to acting, she has filmed other shows, including Time, which aired before the 60th specials. So there's no reason filming couldn't have been delayed to accommodate Jodie while still having the episodes ready for November/December 2023.
Imagine the end of Power of the Doctor, the Thirteenth Doctor has her farewell with Yaz, goes to the clifftop and starts regenerating... only to end up with the same face by the end of it? Might not have the same impact on the general public as the Tennant return, but certainly enough to keep fans speculating for a year.
Then at the start of The Star Beast, the TARDIS brings her straight to 2023, where she just happens to bump into Yaz as soon as she steps out, who is still hurting after a year without the Doctor, and shocked she doesn't have a different face.
And imagine hearing Akinola's themes for Thirteen and Yaz in Murray Gold's style when they are reunited!
While I do think Donna's exit was more heartbreaking than Yaz's, I'd argue she got closure of a sort, marrying someone who genuinely loves her for who she is, and getting a winning lottery ticket. It certainly didn't need a fanfiction fix-it of being sorted by "just letting go" ("something a male-presenting Time Lord wouldn't understand" way to shit on your own progressivism Russell)
While the ending Chibnall gave Yaz was an appropriate and bittersweet one for her character, it was written in a way that permitted closure or another writer picking up the character in the future.
I criticise RTD frequently on here, but one thing he absolutely excels at is realistic family drama (the scene where Sylvia isn't sure she's saying the right thing to Rose was probably the best writing in those specials), and integrating that family drama with the magic and silliness of Doctor Who. Not saying Chibnall was bad at this, but it was never really the story he wanted to tell. RTD could've done some great stuff with the Khan family in the 60th specials, with her parents and Sonya supporting her in adjusting to life without the Doctor, and probably delivering some uncomfortable truths to Thirteen(.5) about all the time she froze Yaz out or pushed her away.
I'm not sure how the specials could've played out, but imagine if instead of Fourteen regenerating into Ten's face because he "needed to come home" to Donna (and not every other found family the Doctor had ever had?), we linked it back to Power of the Doctor, and revealed that Thirteen wanting more time (with Yaz), and Yaz not wanting her time with the Doctor to end triggered the Toymaker's interference. Her made her regenerate into the same face, and brought her straight back to Yaz, and to defeat him they have to let the change complete itself.
If they're going hard on marketing Ncuti's era as "Series 1" as if it's a brand new show, then I think having Thirteen and Yaz (the final Doctor and companion of the 2005-2023 Who) both accept that it's time to move on would be the perfect coda for the "NuWho" as a whole. No "bigeneration" fanfiction fuckery, but maybe Thirteen offering Yaz to stay with her for the change this time, and Yaz this time being the one to say no, not because the Doctor is regenerating, but because she's accepted that time with the Doctor has to end sometime.
And then in the closing seconds, we get to see Ncuti's Doctor, taking up the baton (and clothes) from Jodie Whittaker, just as it should be, his Doctor on his own terms, not a side character in the last guy's story.
As I said, I understand why this didn't happen, but honestly, this would've been so much better than what we got.

Yes! Someone who shares my opinion of New Wheels! I’d seen mostly positives for it around but I never liked it much for the exact reasons you said!
Oh I have.... definitely expressed my hatred for it. I was surprised by the results of the poll I did, and I've seen a lot of love for it too; rewatching I honestly can really only say Why. Why does this episode exist, and why does it play out like that. Like, surface level it's an alright episode, rewatching all of s13 I can maybe understand why people would say it's the best episode of the season, but it's just... perfectly exemplary of the weirdness of the entire season. I know RCG doesn't like having to deal with continuity in most seasons (s2 was an exception because they were trying to integrate Frank into the gang, and it ended up fucking them over bc the network reordered the episodes creating weird continuity errors) but there's a difference between basic continuity (adhering to previously established lore) versus writing a semi-continuous story that carries throughout the season. Glenn has talked before about preferring to keep the show more grounded rather than allowing it to be cartoonish (arguing against the inclusion of little things like adding SFX for Frank firing the gun in post when they hadn't planned for that in a scene, which means that there's a complete lack of reaction from people in the restaurant = unrealistic) and I have to wonder if it's a coincidence that for the seasons he wasn't in the writers room for, shit got. wild. I think at some point you have to draw a line and say, okay, there is no way in fucking hell these are real people anymore. Not that they haven't been getting away with absolutely despicable shit for years now, but it used to be that the designated straight man of a scene would at LEAST point out how fucked up something is, have some sort of objection, something to ground the show in reality and remind us that these characters are in the real world who could face consequences (injury, community service, arrest). I feel that's what missing from New Wheels. WE as the audience knows how fucked up it is for Mac and Charlie to kill a child, or for Dee to sleep with a minor, but to have Dennis, completely removed from the situation, not react with shock or horror, is...... a weird choice. Especially with how grounded his arc is, and how grounded HE is, relative to the rest of the gang in the episode. It feels off. Even if it was like, Mac and Charlie saying YOU DID WHAT? to Dee, and she and Frank doing the same back after hearing that they're unsure if they killed a kid. Zero judgement at all? Unlike the gang <3 They can generally recognize when the OTHERS pull something that's completely batshit, they just lack self-awareness when they're the one committing the acts yknow?? not always, but usually.

I just realized that if Optimus and Megatron argue about the nicknames they gave Eren and Armin, they'd technically be talking in the third person.
Megatron: Why are you calling your pet by that name.
Optimus: Firstly, he's not a pet. Second, because Eren reminds me of him. I don't understand why that upsets you.
Megatron: You don't under-?! That brat has nothing in common with Megatronus!
Optimus: *tries not to smile* They're both temperamental and impulsive but also work hard for what they believe in.
Megatron: Bullshit. That human is an annoying piece of scrap that can't keep its mouth shut.
Optimus: Go ahead and say all the negative things you want about Eren. It will only add to the list of things he and Megatronus have in common.
Megatron: *his left optic twitches* What is that supposed to mean?!
Optimus: I'm not sure. *tilts his head towards a young Armin* Why don't you ask Orion Pax over there to explain it to you.
Megatron: ...
Megatron: That's different.
Optimus: How, pray tell, is it different?
Megatron: Because that child is the splitting imagine of Orion. He's an arrogant little know-it-all who can't take his optic off of books for too long without throwing a fit.
Optimus: *crosses his arms* Orion never claimed to know everything. And he most certainly didn't throw fits.
Megatron: Really? Well, Megatron wasn't as impulsive as you made him out to be. He was just defending himself from our world's injustice.
Optimus: That's a nice way of saying he punched a lot of bots in the faceplate. It's a good thing Orion was there to keep him from getting arrested.
Megatron: Oh, don't even start with that.
Everyone listening in on their conversation:

The only ones who would have any idea what's going on is Hanji, Erwin, Mike, and Levi, only because they are aware. Levi's drinking his tea, still wondering if they actually had a romantic relationship. Hanji's furiously writing down notes, and Erwin and Mike are just so fucking done. Because it's surreal to them. That Optimus Prime, the calmest person they've ever met, is having a full blown argument with this guy. Hanji tried to get this guy to smile with heavy difficulty and injuries, but one word from Megatron and suddenly they're acting like kids!
But besides that, I haven't really integrated Armin into the story much, have I? I need to fix that.
So because Wall Maria wasn't taken, Armin's grandfather was still alive. They still saw Eren and Mikasa, but one day they were acting weird. Armin noticed how scared Eren and Mikasa looked. He tried to get them to talk about it, but they didn't want to. And then one day, they were just gone. He visited their home and it was just deserted. He reported it to the MPs, but he knew they wouldn't do much.
Then the king is replaced, and humanity isn't actually extinct. But the people outside the walls want them dead because they can somehow turn into titans. And then...Armin's grandfather passes due to his old age. Now, Armin is all alone. He has no one to help him. No one to protect him. He was...heartbroken. His tears were then replaced with a steely gaze. If no one was going to protect him, then he would have to learn to protect himself. He was not going to die lying down like this. He decided he would join the military, and join the Survey Corps. The world might be occupied by others, but there was still an outside world and he wanted to see it.
He does what he has to do to survive on his own, and when he was old enough, he ended up joining the military. And as he stood there on induction day. Armin nearly gasped in shock as he saw Eren and Mikasa in line. When they are all dismissed and Sasha is forced to run the rest of the day. Armin runs and tackles Eren and Mikasa into a hug. Both are shocked to see him here, but they are so relieved to see him alive. Armin tears are quickly replaced with anger as he shoves Eren and demands what the hell happened.
Eren and Mikasa are more than happy to explain. They tell about what they found in Grisha's basement, how they had to get protection and stay with the Survey Corps, how they got to meet Captain Levi and Optimus Prime. They do end up apologizing for not telling Armin sooner, but it was advised to not tell Armin or he would be targeted and possibly killed. The two ask Armin what happened with him and how was his grandfather, but...Armin laments that he passed away.
And Eren and Mikasa feel guilty. Armin was left all alone. They didn't mean to leave him like that, but they had no choice. And they promise Armin that they won't leave him like that again.
But then the random accident during training that reveals Eren as a titan shifter complicates everything. Keith, thankfully through his own connections, contacts Erwin about it and he shows up with Optimus. The 104th are just gawking at the sight. The Commander of the Survey Corps and the Savior of Humanity? Here? There's just no way! Armin was stunned to see such an advanced titan in their presence, but he still hadn't seen his actual form. Only the holoform.
This is also the very first time Bertholdt and Annie see him up close.
Armin can only watch as they talk to Eren, Mikasa, and Keith in private. And Armin is dreading it. They were going to leave. They were going to leave again. They were going to be taken away from him and he would be all alone. Armin feels his stomach drop, but he forces himself to not cry. He wasn't going to cry.
But something unexpected happens. Erwin tells Armin that he was going to come with them, taking Armin by surprise. But Erwin says they told him that Armin was a close friend, and they didn't want Marley getting wind of this and putting him in danger. Armin turns to Eren, but Eren is steadfast, reminding him of the promise they made. And Armin nearly cries right there.
Eren, Mikasa, and Armin end up going with Erwin and Optimus back to Survey Corps headquarters and when they get there, Armin is surprised to find Carla already there talking to Captain Levi begging him for answers. Eren calls out to her, and she quickly rolls over to him and hugs him with relief and sorrow. Armin still doesn't know what's going on, but he yells in shock as Optimus transforms into his bipedal mode because he wasn't expecting that! But he can't help but be in awe.
But then, Armin gets the full explanation of the titan powers, and he is devastated. Eren, his first friend, his best friend, was going to die in 13 years. Carla was already devastated and Mikasa has to keep a brave face and comfort her surrogate mother, but Armin didn't know what to do now. All his excitement and uncertainty was replaced with dread. Armin is just in a state of shock the rest of the time, barely registering anything and quietly nodding along. He's taken to a spare room. Mikasa is with Carla, trying to console her, while Eren is with military command to discuss things further. And Armin is left alone again.
Armin ends up going to the kitchen to get something to drink, but just feels his hands shaking as he's holding the cup in his hands. Anger finally takes over and he chucks it, only for someone to catch it as they entered the kitchen as well. Armin's scared now. He didn't mean to do that, and this guy looked terrifying. The multiple scars, the red eyes, the disinterested look as he examined the item he caught.
"I'm sure we haven't met before," he replies so casually, "So your attack just seemed unnecessary."
Armin is just confused as this newcomer walks in and puts the cup back on the table. Armin is even more bewildered as he just grabs a sack of water and leaves, not even acknowledging his existence.
A few days later after everything has calmed down, Armin spots Megatron talking with Optimus in bipedal mode and is terrified. What kind of titan was that?!
"Oh, that's Galvatron," Eren answered with distaste, "He's an asshole."
Armin is able to put two and two together and realize the human form he saw that day was 'Galvatron'. His fear is now replaced with curiosity. Eren and Mikasa didn't mention him before. Why was he learning about him now?
Additional info:
-Optimus does end up giving a formal greeting to Armin, and Armin can't help but be amazed. Although learning that there's life outside of the planet shocks Armin to his core.
-Armin, Mikasa, and Eren still learn how to use 3D gear. Just with the Survey Corps and not the 104th. Which oddly enough, improves their skills because they are much more experienced in using 3D gear.
-Armin can't help but stare at Megatron sometimes, but he quickly turns away whenever Megatron catches it. He's aware. Armin's terrible at bullshitting.
-Hanji is experimenting on Eren like wild fire. And Optimus and Levi have to find ways to restrain her.
-Armin catches a glimpse of what's going on with the Marley situation, and catches a brief glimpse of Zeke. He brings up to everyone that he looks like Grisha, and they are finally able to put two and two together that Zeke is Grisha's first son. This impresses Erwin.
(Still Megatron building a relationship and ultimately calling Armin 'Pax' would take a little more time and I am tired right now.)

SONIC IDW N.50:
BEWARE SPOILERS BELOW FOR THE ISSUE
Tumblr media
Wow, oh wow! I just finished reading the comic and man, all I can say is that n.50 is as solid a milestone as they come! In my humble opinion this issue was nearly perfect and closed splendidly the overarching plot brought forward till this point. And the art! The art was gorgeous!
But one thing at a time.
First, I must say that this issue is a smack in the face to anyone who says Flynn can't write Eggman! Because honestly, I've hardly ever seen the character in better shape. Not only does the art make him look chillingly scary and dreadful, but his battle with Starline drives home one point perfectly: EGGMAN ALWAYS WAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE SELF SUFFICIENT. He doesn't need nor want the heroes' "friendship is magic" argument.
Tumblr media
Also, he can, by all means, plan in detail ahead, I guess at times he just doesn't care to because, much like Sonic with his speed, he knows his intelligence will get him out of any situation regardless.
Tumblr media
The possibility of Starline actually meeting his demise like this in this number would be absolutely perfect. The reality that Eggman would never be on his side and he would never be his equal hit him with absolute certainty! I think only the Archie battle between Eggman and Snively was as satisfying as this! If this is the end of you, R.I.P doctor, you were one heck of a character with an immaculate character design!
But that leaves us with the other confrontations.
Tumblr media
I think one of the things I loved best of this issue was how all the showdowns displayed such blatant 'difference in register and tone' between the characters. Tails responds to Kit's despair and confusion with clarity and friendliness, Sonic meets Surge's anger and aggression with playfulness and by lowering the stakes at play. For all three groups this was not a battle on even ground. Sonic, as he says so himself, has heard Surge's discourse a million times, just like Tails, and Eggman has smacked down countless wannabes, off course this wasn't going to be for them the big, epic, emotionally charged fight it was for the other three!
Tumblr media
Muahahah, Sonic's answer to Surge's introducing monologue is hysterical and honestly one of the best bits of the issue. But Surge does have a point!
Tumblr media
IDW's Sonic philosophy (which is very different from some of his other incarnations) can be at the same time very maddening and selfish but also the greatest display of integrity. He will do everything in his power to stop ill intended beings from directly harming others but he will not prevent them from acting in the future or when his back is turned. His absolute firmness on not compromising on this point means that yes, he is very selfish because the harm Surge and Kit had to suffer at the hands of Starline could have been prevented and that others might suffer in the same way moving forward. However it's also extremely heroic because, the thing about comprising on one's morality is that once you do it once, there's no saying what kind of compromise you might end up making and justifying to yourself!
Tumblr media
Again, is this actually the end of this character? For some reason I doubt it more than with Starline, but it would be fitting in its tragedy. It's great that not all three original characters came out of this story the same way, but it does make me wonder what would that mean for Kit in this event.
That leaves me with the one sour note of the issue. *Sigh* Belle.....
Sorry, I just don't see the charm in the character and her confrontation with both Metal and Eggman was, well, underwhelming....I mean, the comparison between her and Metal was interesting but it didn't really mean anything and everything she does just isn't interesting enough!
Tumblr media
I can only hope that Eggman letting her go now, will mean a whole lot more later. But for now this was the most forgettable part of the issue.
One might argue that Kit and Surge's story isn't over because we still don't know who they were originally and Starline never realised they had turned on him, but honestly: does it matter? Not really....none of it when it boils down to it. Starline was still spectacularly shown how imperfect his planning was and the other two would be no less dramatic, whatever it was that brought them to Starline!
Tumblr media
And so, the story comes to an end on a wonderful cliff hanger! I enjoyed this issue so much and it honestly makes me wonder what direction the comic will go next! Despite its lows (because there have been, and big ones too) I am liking this series so much better than I ever enjoyed Archie and numbers like this prove that while it might have a lot of 'misses', when it hits it hits hard!

You cannot convince me that during Allison's brilliant dark arc, that Chris wasn't having his eyes opened as if looking in a mirror almost and perhaps seeing Kate in his daughter. Was he having flashbacks to his and Kate's upbringing under Gerard's tutelage? He saw her being brainwashed by his father and the path that was leading down.
Tumblr media
The Argent's Season 2 arc -- Allison trying to cope with the reality of her own family and her place in it; Chris trying to accept that he was the only hunter who seemed to give a crap about the Code; Victoria putting her own deranged, violent spin on how a mother's desire to protect her children can too often veer into control -- is all about integrity versus corruption.
With their silver bullets forged as testimony to the Code, the Argent family was supposed to be all about an ancient and honorable calling: protecting humanity from monsters who would prey on them, "We hunt those who hunt us." For some, that was true, but for others (Kate and Gerard) they used that calling as a shield for their own selfish actions, the very definition of corruption. Allison, Chris, and Victoria started the series with their integrity intact only for it to be challenged in Season 2.
When you look at Allison's arc from a certain perspective, it's not all that dark. She didn't go after innocents. She didn't try to kill Scott or Lydia. She went after those monsters who were killing human beings: Derek Hale's Pack. It can't be ignored that every single murder (with the exception of the homeless omega) in Seasons 1 and 2 were committed by a Hale or by a Hale beta. That's 14 in less than three months, by the way. And that doesn't even take into account the two times a Hale specifically intended to kill Allison or the very recent battle to keep the Hale Pack from murdering her best friend after failing to do it the first time. As she yelled at Derek in Chaos Rising, where more Hale betas are off to kill people "I'm not the one turning teenagers into killers!"
Then why is it corruption? Because she wasn't trying to uphold the Code when she pursued Derek and his pack; she was using the Code as a cover for her own grief about her mother's death and her own hatred of feeling powerless. Enforcing the Code shouldn't bring her pleasure; it shouldn't be used to deal with her own tragedy or weakness. That is the path she almost didn't avoid, and also why she tried to reform the Code into something more clearly focused on protection rather than vengeance.
Chris's temptation was different. It wasn't one of action; it was one of passivity. It was comfortable to take that role; he was raised to be a soldier, not a leader. But he's not an idiot; he realizes that other members of his family have taken the Code and tossed it out a window. He argues with his father about his tactics, but he doesn't take a stand until the end of the season. He acted as if the Code was all important, but he couldn't bring himself to stand against his father, because that would require him to stand with the creatures he had hunted for most of his life. But, in the end, and he could be criticized for acting too late, he made the choice. "You sometimes find yourself surprised by which side you end up on." (I love how this statement echoes and refutes Kate's earlier statement "And even then, sometimes - You can surprise yourself.")
Chris had to learn that following the Code personally and scrupulously is not enough; it has to be defended. No matter how cowed by his father (and I love how J.R. Bourne showed how intimidated Chris was by his acting choices), the Code is meaningless if he watches people like his sister and his father subvert it. It was a hard lesson. "And if I had done something that night, then maybe my sister wouldn't be the monster that she is today."
Unfortunately, Victoria failed to resist the temptations and fell to corruption. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a mother wanting to protect her daughter from the dangers of the world, especially since Victoria understood the world is filled with monsters. But she, as we can assume all Argent Matriarchs had done, swore to uphold the Code, and Scott was not guilty of anything worthy of death. Her authority doesn't give her the right to execute people for what they might do; no one should have that right.
Regardless of why Derek bit her, her reaction to it was a form of redemption, a way for her character to acknowledge that she had violated the Code by which she had lived her life and to make up for what she had done. We could argue whether her act of atonement went too far or not, but it was an act of integrity in contrast to her earlier act of corruption.
It would be easy to place the Argents into the role of Mindless Bigots, but that would be missing some of the truly great acting and storytelling of Teen Wolf. I'm glad I noticed it.

An anon submitted an ask about how they think Obi-Wan didn't love Anakin as much as Anakin loved him. Unfortunately, Tumblr ate that ask, but here is the reply:
Short answer is that I don't think Anakin loved Obi-Wan more than Obi-Wan loved him. I just think they are both unable to relate to each other in an entirely healthy way because of how they grew up.
Now, the long answer is where I explain what in heck I mean by that.
At the beginning of their relationship, Obi-Wan is initially ambivalent and dismissive. This is just "another pathetic life-form." It's not I think that Obi-Wan does not care about people, it is that he as a Jedi is taught to prioritize the mission above all, the collective above the individual. He has also internalized a certain level of Core-World snobbery and the typical Jedi arrogance.
Afterwards, when Qui-Gon wants to take Anakin as an apprentice, Obi-Wan becomes jealous. To his credit, Obi-Wan does seem to realise this is wrong, and it helps that Qui-Gon does reassure him.
The latter point is very important. You see, Obi-Wan, as I discuss in this post, is very insecure and needs to please the Jedi Council. Obi-Wan almost wasn't trained to be a knight because he was too angry. As a result, he has internalized this rejection. All he has is the Order. He wants to please them.
So when Qui-Gon asks him to train Anakin, he is at war inside. On the one hand, Obi-Wan is devoted to Qui-Gon and wants to honor his wishes. On the other, he does not want to defy the council. It took a lot of courage, and I would argue integrity for Obi-Wan to oppose the Council on this. Fortunately, they reconsidered letting Anakin go untrained with the Sith threat. However, Obi-Wan never forgot Yoda's censure. It is now on him to make sure this kid is perfect.
So, what happens? He comes down hard on Anakin. He defied the Council and destabilized his own security to train this boy and he is scared and lacking in support.
This does not mean he does not care. I think he does care about Anakin. I think he even sees a part of himself in Anakin as a scared little boy who was rejected from becoming a Jedi, which is all he wanted, because of fear or anger. Apart from Qui-Gon's wishes, I do think this may be one reason Obi-Wan did decide to go to bat for him. The more time they spend together, the deeper that affection goes.
In AotC, we do see Obi-Wan being kind to Anakin. The ribbing in the elevator. His reassurances when Anakin is upset that Padme didn't recognize him/seems to have forgotten about him. Even his gently exasperated expression when he tells Anakin "try not to lose it" about his lightsaber.
However, Obi-Wan has been taught that attachment is wrong. Yoda even says in one of the Legends books that one of the reasons he was against Obi-Wan training Anakin is that they are both prone to attachment. However, Obi-Wan, unlike Anakin, truly thinks that is wrong. This is just another reason to be hard on Anakin. Whenever Obi-Wan falls into this, it tends to be because Anakin is acting unorthodox or "attached."
I think when Anakin says "you're like a father to me" and Obi-Wan says, "Well, why don't you listen to me then?" is a reflection of this. Obi-Wan does not reject the implication, but he also cannot openly accept it. He cannot tell Anakin he loves him. He tries in other ways, in RotS for example with his "I am very proud of you speech."
Then, there is Anakin. Anakin is never reassured by Obi-Wan, who does not know Anakin is even aware of it, that he is no longer jealous of or resentful of Anakin. Over time, as they become closer, this matters less, but some insecurity remains.
Anakin has always had to please people in authority over him to feel safe. This means he really wilts under Obi-Wans critical training system. It also means he needs to know Obi-Wan loves him personally. This is partially because he is a child and just needs unconditional love. It is also because defining people as family means they are family and he can trust them.
Anakin has also grown up having a family. He is used to these dynamics and was not taught to believe they are wrong...yet. So we have Anakin reaching out, looking for Obi-Wan to acknowledge his role as a father. Meanwhile, Obi-Wan is not in a position to do that. The best he will do is say Anakin is "like my brother" when it is far too late. The way Anakin wants to receive affection are ways that Obi-Wan finds hard to reciprocate given his Jedi indoctrination. There is a lot of miscommunication, or just a lack of communication.
Last of all, because attachment is wrong, Obi-Wan can and will throw Anakin under the bus if he has to. It is Jedi teachings Obi-Wan has internalized at war with his affections. The result is that Obi-Wan will shield Anakin from the Council/scrutiny as much as he can, until he can't and has to follow orders. Anakin does not work like this, and that undermines the relationship, because Anakin knows he cannot trust Obi-Wan to go to bat for him the same way. Obi-Wan will always do what the Council says if push comes to shove.
So...it's not that Obi-Wan does not love Anakin just as deeply. I think he does. It's just that he's been harmed emotionally which in part drives how he treats Anakin. Nothing about the way Jedi raise kids is healthy.

happy wincest wednesday! inspired by that ask you answered earlier, is there a canon male character sam would allow to join them for dp-ing dean purposes?
helloooooooo happy happy wincest wednesday!
umm in actual honest to g nothing at all about canon has changed except that S&D are canonically fucking? I think the answer is... no. I think there are plenty of dudes Dean would be open to and there may be some that Sam is open to on his own (though clearly that's a vastly smaller number), but it's the integration of the other into the world of obsessive two that makes it so much more difficult. A random stranger? Sure, there's not really any problem there, although I think there might be a dynamic assessment that they'd do -- a twink is nbd, but another toppy guy...? Sam's going to have to assess, lol. (Of course this also slightly depends on when it happens, but I find my mental established relationship!chesters tend to be in the solidity of s11, and there Sam is very watchful of Dean's safety and happiness and so if he were doing the choosing, which lbr he would, it would be a very careful choice, just for Dean's sake. [muffled scream, they love each other so muhuhuhuhuch.])
But like, let's go through the likely candidates:
Castiel: no. It'd have to be in a VERY specific timeframe, particularly a moment when Dean wasn't mostly angry at him all the time. s4/5 is one of the better spots for the destiel part of the model, but they're really fraught in the wincest relationship -- and Sam's on his back foot for a while there, but he's never at a lack-of-self-respect spot where he'd let Dean supersede him at the same moment that Dean might consider Cas. s6, no. s7, no. s8, tricky -- Sam's guilt might allow it, but Cas is acting too g.d. weird w/r/t the mind control for Dean to let him in. s9 when Cas is human is the best shot I think they've got, and I have actually written that under commission, but Dean letting Gadreel into that situation already feels... off. Possible, but not for the most in-character versions I can think of. And then after s9 the likelihood just gets lower and lower. Sorry, Cas.
Crowley: lol, no. There's like 45 seconds where Sam almost kinda likes him but then the jealousy goes SUPERNOVA.
Benny: no, and it's really too bad. Sam doesn't trust him until he's dead. (What does that tell us about jealous!Sam, by the way.) But Benny's such a great candidate because he knows his place, exactly -- Sam's uppermost in Dean's mind always, and Benny doesn't argue about that at all, and everyone knows the score. I wrote a little canon divergence to make room, but in canon as presented -- sorry, Dean, you'll have to get your DP elsewhere.
And after that, really, who are our other legit options? Bobby? No. John? Ahaha but no. Garth, Ash, Max the Witch, Paul the Bartender, Cesar & Jesse for a fun foursome? Just doesn't seem likely.
You can construct these hyperspecific moments where a really-for-real-canon character might go for it, but you have to get past 1) whatever canon debacle is happening at the moment, 2) ensure that the wincest element is safe and solid, and 3) get the third over the fact that they're fucking brothers -- something easy to gloss over in 'private' wincest, but it's something that shouldn't be discarded in threesome fic. Even if the third might not care -- monsters&angels&demons might totally shrug -- Sam and Dean might care, and particularly Dean, and Sam knows that Dean sometimes gets off hardest when he's humiliated but it doesn't mean he wants to invite that into their bed when he doesn't need to.
So. A hard sell. (Canon divergence AUs are our friend.)

The way you talk with certainty about "original scripts" and stuff is giving Pepe Silvia tbh. Cmon. The season we saw is the season the writers wanted us to see. 4x09 only doesn't make sense to folks who had cemented their expectations already and still refuse to integrate the episode we actually got, an ep which does make total sense in the order of events we saw and the season we all watched. Sure, some people would have liked to have seen a more satisfying conclusion to Marwa's arc. That's fair. But I'm failing to see how that warrants the mental gymnastics to explain why your expectations were not met.
One more thing...you mention that the narrative doesn't tell us that Nandor's actions toward Marwa are wrong, but I'd argue that 4x08's narrative DOES show us that Nandor is being a huge dick and what he's doing is wrong. That's kind of the whole point of his subplot in that episode. It's 4x09 that doesn't dwell on that, because hey, that's not the focus of the episode (and I get why it rubs people wrong. It just doesn't for me). It's ok to not have liked 4x09 and it's ok to not have liked where they went with Marwa's story (even if I personally think people are putting way too much emphasis on her as a side character and how that's a huge part of the disconnect people are having) but what it definitely doesn't do is support a theory that the writers haphazardly threw together the season without a care in the world for the story or its continuity. At minimum, let's put some respect on Wally Baram & Aasia LaShay Bullock's names, two women of colour writers on wwdits whose job it is to ensure continuity and edit the season's story.
Anon, I get that you may not agree with my ideas, but you're welcome to ignore them. I feel like I've made my case well and I believe in what I've said. There's an element of anger and personal attack in this that I don't think is warranted. I don't think I'm disrespecting any writer by talking about rewrites and writing decisions and by criticizing where I don't think things came together.
We literally know that they reimagined parts of this season partway through filming. They have told us that. I don't really understand why you're acting like I'm showing up at the writers' house with a knife for saying it, or for saying that I think the rewrites show.
I think the fact that 4.08 was starting to explore the idea that Nandor had made Bad Life Choices re: Marwa was exactly why 4.09 felt so jarring when that was all tossed aside and never fully elaborated on before they put her on a bus. There's a reason why people were so interested in that plotline in 4.08 and so disappointed in 4.09. It was a very ignominious end for a character who was finally starting to come into themselves -- who wasn't just a side character.
Besides which, WWDITS has always gone to great lengths to humanize their recurring side characters and give them interesting character arcs. I think discounting Marwa as a side character and saying that's why her poor writing is understandable actually is disrespectful to the world that the writers have built thus far. I am judging Marwa's writing against characters like Jenna and Gregor and the Guide and Sean and Charmaine and hell, even Simon the Devious. WWDITS has great recurring side characters, usually!
Like the reason why I had high expectations for this writing team is because they'd always met those expectations in the past. And this time they didn't. I'm upset because this was a conscious decision and the season they chose to show us. I'm upset because the writing feels rushed and at times half-baked, not something I'm accustomed to thinking about this show, and because I think the rewrites show.
I get that you seem to have a hard time with people criticizing the writing decisions in this show -- and make no mistake, I am criticizing decisions. But no, I'm not going to feel bad about this here, and I don't particularly appreciate the weird attempted guilt trip by naming story editors and telling me that I'm disrespecting them as WOC by criticizing the writing decisions in a tv show.
Like... you are very welcome to your own opinions, anon, and I'm glad you enjoyed the show you got. But no, tracking writing decisions and trying to piece together how the writing room came to those decisions (with, yes, the rewrites they have admitted to in mind) doesn't make me some weirdo indulging in mental gymnastics who's being disrespectful to the writers.
(Now some of my meta? That is mental gymnastics and joyfully so. Having fun on these monkey bars, tbh.)

uh hello,i know you aren't a scholar or anything but i just wanted to ask for your opinion or ask if you have read anything on this matter. so the Quran doesn't say anything about same-sex marriages(and it not saying anything it is banned) but i also saw something like "marry the unmarried amongst you, female or male slaves" and i saw someone, an imam, saying this makes same-sex marriages possible. and in a surah(30:21) it talks about love in a gender neutral manner. i don't get how people connect zina and homosexuality. yes it would be zina if the same-sex couple wasn't married and had sex, but if they got married by an imam and had sex wouldnt that be legal. or i want to know why can't they get married? sex is seen as such a positive part of life. so why is it that just because of the way we were created we cannot have sex, isn't that unfair? i also learned that all the "hadiths" that talk about homosexuality being punished is actually weak and unreliable. so i don't get it, can we be in a relationship without ever having sex, or can we get married and then have sex? because if it is permissible after marriage, then i am willing to wait for it. if it isn't, i don't want to imagine my life so blank and deprived because of it. the homophobic Muslims certainly wouldn't have missed out if the Prophet had ever punished anyone for homosexuality, yet he didn't and how very interestingly they were condemned AFTER HIS DEATH. he reads the book and misunderstands and the scholars read it and understand better than him? ironic. honestly i am so shocked about how the homophobia is so deep withing the community. they make the religion so scary and unapproachable for anyone who is not cishet. also saying "don't act on it" is incredibly stupid. why was i created in pairs too, then? if it was actually a sin, why wasn't it mentioned properly instead of people trying to make conclusions and analogies that either arent clear or aren't mentioned? i used to thing literally almost everything is haram but know i know that it's just people making things up. it seems hard for a Muslim to go hell, too. unless they are very corrupted. as far as i know, what is haram is either haram because it harms other people, or it harms the person doing it. how can being in a relationship harm anyone? straight couples getting married before sex is logical as if there is any children they will be supported and cared for. but it is illogical to say "there is nothing about it in the Quran so it's not permissible" it's the very opposite! i used to feel so bad for my identity but now i am coming to terms with it. i am also disappointed by how many scholars and imams are homophobic themselves no matter how "knowledgeable" they are. i never listen to them as i think religion should be something i myself should be deciding. i have always understood the story of Lut as rape. they had wives and they were raping men, it wasn't consensual. also the Quran on the importance as being a good partner outweighs my suspicions. anyway i am sorry for taking so much, but i am full or rage towards the community. it doesn't judge or condemn us anywhere. even in the Lut, is is HETERO MEN THAT HAD WIVES RAPING MEN. please share your thoughts with me. i hope you have a great day, may Allah bless you.
hi! i just saw this so i'm replying a bit late. as you said, i'm not a scholar, but i'm a psychologist and researcher who studies queer muslim identity and identity integration. so i think i can share what i see, read and observe.
first of all, there is a sociological area, islamic feminism, which i think is very related to these issues as well. scholars are women and they argue that the interpretations on religious issues are always made by men with their patriarchal, heteronormative, hegemonic minds. they say the language of the quran is never discriminatory, sexist etc. so they criticize the islamic scholars and they suggest a new interpretation, they read the quran and hadith critically, with a new perspective. when we look at the muslim societies today, we can clearly see that none of those societies really perform islam. sometimes people cannot differentiate culture and religion. they don't know which one is from the culture, which one is from the deen. it is not surprising but we must be critical of this.
another thing is, some scholars say that if something is not clearly stated in quran or hadith, then people shouldn't ask too many questions about it, some say "if they are not stated, they're forgiven by Allah". i also read in kecia ali's book sexual ethics and islam that there is a "don't ask, don't tell" norm when it comes to sexual minorities in muslim societies. they acknowledge it, but they don't wanna talk about it.
recently i'm doing in-depth interviews with muslim queer women. one woman said "when i look back to my past, i do not feel any regret or shame about my sexuality, but i feel remorse because of abortion. when i make love with a woman, we don't hurt anyone or anything. do we kill someone? no. but abortion, i still do not forgive myself".
i think what she said is really important. going through an abortion makes her feel remorse, pain, and fear of Allah. she is worried and prays to Allah to forgive her. but she is okay with her sexuality, because as she said, they don't hurt anyone. my opinion is not very different from her. in the quran, there are clearly stated harams: killing, stealing, zina, infidelity and so on. yet, some so-called "religious" people make queerness a huge issue while we have all kinds of corruptions and harams in our societies. is it logical? i don't think so.
about prophet Lut, i think we have similar views. i've read those verses from quran numerous times. the issue is more about rape, consent, corruptions in the society in my opinion. i cannot believe people read those verses and the only thing they say is "see, it is because they were homosexuals". bro, what's the logic? why aren't they that sensitive when it comes to consent, rape, murder?
i think i kinda made my perspective clear. Islam is all about justice and peace. Allah is merciful and fair. so apparently me kissing a woman is more problematic than killing a woman for so-called religious men, but it's indeed very related to mansplaining, patriarchy and heteronormativity. that's why i suggest you to read more about islamic feminism. and lastly, all the muslim queer women in my asks box, why don't you message me, i thought we could be friends :(
edit: i realized i didn't talk about your question on marriage. i don't have knowledge about it though. personally, i think i'm not someone who values marriage and/or sex that much so it's maybe better to not talk much. but i know queer muslim women who think it is okay to have sex regardless of gender if there is mutual consent. i also know someone who thinks it is okay if you have sex only with one person which is your partner. since same sex marriage is still not legal in many countries, it is a tough topic. but there are proud married queer muslim couples in countries where same sex marriage is legal, maybe we should ask them

@involuntaryspy: Bucky poked his head over the back of the sofa, peering just over Tony's shoulder. "Hey, wanna go help with the annual volunteer search and rescue training? I don't think Marty would be any help, but I think we could use the refresher."
Tumblr media
"Look, I'm just gonna come out and say it: If it's not a treat, and it's not a stick, Marty doesn't give a tin shit, and that's just the facts." Listen, Marty was a great dog, as much as...Tony understood about great dogs. Admittedly, most of those memories were from childhood, and outside of Marty himself, his most recent experience with dogs period were Lucky, who he'd have argued was Clint in a dog suit had he not actually personally witnessed them both in the same room at the same time, and Thori, who was...Well. Thori liked murder. Thori liked murder a lot. So by that metric, yeah. Marty was tops. The bestest best boy to ever best boy. He did what was instinctual, right, only...What was instinctual was to bully the chickens into staying where he wanted them and acting as though the world was ending if he wasn't given a pepperoni or you wouldn't throw the stick.
Call him a pessimist, but he highly doubted a dog as food motivated as Marty would be super interested in putting on the doggy cape and playing pupper hero. Some were meant to carry the burden, some were meant to nap in the sunshine. That was life.
Anyway, this wasn't about Marty to begin with, necessarily, it was about something he probably should have sought out and integrated himself into from the word go, when he realized he was going to be making the great wide flyover country home, and he'd been lax about that, he'd admit it. There'd been this crisis in New York, there'd be that Hydra cell that needed popping, and he'd just...Never gotten around to it, and here it was, a mumbled number of years later, and Bucky was having to prompt him into it. It was shameful, especially since he'd always taken a sort of pride in keeping his SARS training up to date, because it was good, useful knowledge as an Avenger and it promoted cooperation between first responder groups.
"No, you're right, we should do that." He reached up to pull off his glasses and set them aside on the coffee table, along with the book he'd been trying to read and failing to find footing in, not even bothering with a bookmark; he'd give it another go a month or two from now, maybe. Hopefully the words would gel into some kind of cohesive narrative then. "I should have already done that. You know, it's one thing, I think, to do the stuff somebody with four wheel drive and a wench could do when some idiot decides they won't end up in a snowdrift. Like, you know, an idiot." He'd pulled enough cars out of ditches as Iron Man in that mumbled number of years to know. Some were repeat customers. Some even had the grace to be a little sheepish to find Iron Man leaned next to their window to tap on the glass for the second or third (or fourth - looking specifically at you, Vincent Whitaker, formerly from three streets over) time; he had been told the blank faceplate managed to project a heavy sense of disappointment in those instances.
"But, you know, outside of those fun late night emergency room visits when Hydra drops a bunker on me, it's not like I've gone out of my way to-" He twirled a finger in the air, to indicate his meaning. To ingratiate himself, he guessed. Let them know he wasn't there to upstage the locals, but meant to work in conjunction with. And that was on him, it had always been something easier to do as a team, possibly because he hadn't had to be the one to necessarily instigate it.
There was a pause, as he grew thoughtful for a moment. "You already told Friday to block it out in my calendar, didn't you." It was something that wasn't quite an accusation, no, but it and accusation were holding hands.

I know we talked about it but. Fucking. Glaciator
ALMOST FORGOT ABOUT THIS OOPS SORRY IM LATE i just finished my s3 rewatch (i now think its rather slay. i like dragonbug and um well snake noir could have a better design but i love it when they combine miraculouses and its just two of them against the world <3) anyway rewatching glaciator now! (this got long. putting it under a cut for those who care <3)
thoughts before rewatch: i love the ice cream episodes. andre sucks but his villain episodes are so good and for what. i cant wait to see the rooftop scenes again
i love scenes that have nothing to do w the regular episode formula. ladynoir randomly saving some bus from crashing is so cute. but also wtf is up w this city. like OKAY so these 14/15 year olds have superpowers and u dont so they have to fight supervillains. whatever. but they gotta help you uphold the integrity of your public transport system too?? get a grip paris
i find it so funny whenever adrien does an unexpected pussy slay transformation sequence and plagg is like woAoOAoaoOAHH i would love to see tikki act this way. also obsessed w how kwamis r like ur secret best friend who judge ur every move and laugh at ur L love life
how the fuck does andre just KNOW marinettes in love w someone w green eyes. and hes fucked up for exposing her :/ i agree w her freaking out man i wouldn't want my classmates knowing i like someone like. im mysterious ok.
also he doesn't charge for his ice cream right?? like ive never seen anyone paying this dude. what a baby... like ok big deal some teen girl doesn't want to eat. no need to cry over it loser...
tikki and marinette r like. neurotypical therapist talks to adhd girl. shes rsding rn tikki she thinks all her friends will hate her for ruining everything n that she'll never be happy. i also believe theres a universe where ladybug would've went to meet chat noir if she had time to. but she got upset so she forgot. again, she has adhd
also marinette realizing chat is in love w ladybug for real is so funny. like what did u think he wanted. what did u think he was. she straight up thought he was just balling or like some kind of player who flirts w anything that moves. i find it incredibly relatable that she had no fucking clue <3
'im... so sorry' 'why? its not your fault' i also always apologize even when its not my fault. anyway this scene is awesome. its her fault but its also not her fault. i love drama
'whats that? another supervillain in love with you?' i want this to be like a pattern. like imagine if there were multiple akumatized villains in love w marinette. obsessed w her unbeatable rizz
the sensitive side of chat noir... like it or not. this is when she started slowly falling for him
i love it when one of them is mad at one of the other's alter egos but totally chill w the other. like oh hi marinette :) -> fuck you ladybug >:(
ladynoir arguing... maybe its the broken family divorced kid in me but i love it when they do that
this episode gains points for ladybug's idea being kinda weird girl strange. it gains more for chat's cataclysm being part of the plan and not just to like break the akuma <3
obsessed w rejection scenes that r like. very romantically charged. this is how i feel about the little women 2019 jo/laurie scene. like they had more chemistry in a rejection scene than literally every amy/laurie scene. im right. im also right that the moon looming behind ladynoir as she sadly turned him down only to blush when he kissed her cheek goodbye was romantic. she FELT something. so awesome. obsessed w push pull dynamics. obsessed w repression and denial
one of my fave things about this episode is that chat wasn't mad when she rejected him, only upset when she didn't turn up at first. he wasn't mad that he 'failed' to get her or that she loved someone else. he just wanted to get a chance to tell her how he felt and be with her. he was happy even to be her friend. to be important to her... he was happy just to have spent time with her :(
For The Ending,,,,,,, personally i think it would have been a tad bit more interesting to get some adrienette interaction? like i like the idea of them just barely missing each other and having ice cream on opposite sides of the bridge to an extent, but it would have been interesting if adrien walked up right as andre was scooping marinettes ice cream and theyre like oh hi haha and marinette sees adrien get his very obviously ladybug themed cone and be like ??? about it and have one of them or maybe even andre suggest they get a cone together someday......
overall! ive decided 8.7/10. def a good episode with a lot of important moments, but there's def other episodes and stuff that outshine it. B+!

i just wanted to say maybe buddie fans wouldn't be acting the way they are if kristen didn't completely regress their dynamic from seasons past in s6. I mean only one buckley-diaz scene in a half is ridiculous. Even if it's an ensemble show, it's the most popular relationship on the show bar NONE and it's a core dynamic of the show and you're telling that it's completely normal that they have one scene in 9 episodes? Maybe if they would have given us more Buckley-Diaz scenes when it was clear that many scenes this seasons should have been Buck/Eddie scenes but were not is making people a tad on edge because it's a complete 180 from how Buddie was treated the past couple seasons.
Do you write? Serious question because I think many people are solely viewing this from a buddie-fan perspective and not from that of a writer.
The writers (and Kristen) wanted to do things a little differently this year. They wanted to explore Hen and her story much more, and also her dynamics with other characters, and some other dynamics between the various members of the 118, but it is all very Hen-centric when it comes to those off-duty scenes.
Bobby and Buck's father-son-like relationship was also always pretty integral, and the only moment between them I can now remember is the "find a way to be at ease and peace" convo in the very first episode. Does that mean Bobby doesn't care about Buck anymore? Certainly not.
What it means is that the writers had certain stories in mind that they want to tell. And they only have 42-44 minutes to tell them. Plus all the calls, having to shape those stories into something that works as an episode (which you can absolutely argue some do less than others, because writers and directors aren't perfect, and our preferences are different).
However, sometimes certain things just don't work out. You may have thought at some point "Hm, I really want a scene with XY" but then it doesn't fit into the whole story and would seem arbitrarily added (and this is not fanfiction), or you simply don't have enough time in the episode.
What 911 has NOT done, however, is "completely regress their dynamic." Every call, almost every team scene is PACKED with little moments and gestures between Buck and Eddie. Eddie addressing Buck about secrets Chris is keeping. Eddie looking all heart-eyes at Buck when he's being silly. Eddie and Buck exchanging glances when someone on a call says something stupid. Buck going to sit down closely next to Eddie, getting a cup of coffee from him. Buck saying he's going to 'grab Eddie' self-evidently. And so much more.
Each of those interactions scream familiarity and ease with each other. We may not have seen them have a longer conversation (and what about really? Except the sperm donor story, which Buck deliberately picked Hen as his person of expertise, which was good. Aside from that, the plot of the calls and overall stories in the episodes did not demand it, or they didn't demand it in the eyes of the writers, or there wasn't enough time. Like handing over Hover for example. I can very easily imagine that they sat there, wondering which interactions to pick, and the Eddie + Chim one was definitely the more interesting, fun one in that case, and it might have seemed jarring to also add the last one, so it was left between the lines).
But, the absence of longer conversations that we've seen doesn't mean they don't happen. It doesn't mean Buck and Eddie aren't close anymore, in their private lives. Because if that were the case, they wouldn't have been as close-knit and at ease with each other at work.
Showing these small things is an instrument to portray a relationship when you don't have the time to focus on it in detail.
And this is also why 6x01 is so important. From a writer's perspective, this scene was detailed, deep and very loud in showing just how close Buck and Eddie are outside of work. That was established at the beginning of the season. And storytelling-wise, nothing happened that changed this; there was no shift in interaction between them, no renewed distance or awkwardness or anything that indicates anything has changed. Things still ARE as they were in 6x01. We just don't get to see much of it because there isn't enough time, and other things are at the forefront right now.
Which isn't saying that I am, personally, super happy with this (I frankly don't care all that much about Hen and her doctor storyline, for example). But I understand it!
There is so much open opportunity for Buck and Eddie to have closer interactions outside the firehouse again in the second half of the season, and from a story-telling-perspective, it also makes a lot of sense to keep the suspense up for a while and safe pay-offs for later.
Even if Buddie never goes canon, I am very, very sure there'll be closer interactions again next half. About the whole donor thing (which we've seen indicators that Eddie is holding himself back here; he was not initially consulted and asked for an opinion, so he's not forcing it upon Buck in a meddlesome way because that would be shitty. But it will likely pop up later again); about Eddie's dating life, nicely circling back to "you could have replaced that couch a long time ago"/"I just didn't want to pick the wrong one again". These are themes that were introduced but not completed, so they very, very likely will be.
Anyway, this is longer than I intended. And this is going to be the LAST reply to any of those asks. I'm generally not a great fan of anonymous messages if they're in any way "negative". I'm all for open discourse, but coming at someone anonymously with an opposing opinion feels a bit... like it's a provocation. That may not have been your intention, anon, but that's how it can feel.
Also, I said everything I can say. If you still want to view it pessimistically, that's of course in your right. Just leave me out of it.

Can’t stop thinking about how good Tomura is at acting
Not in the way that he makes up lies to tell people, but rather in the way that he has observed others from afar and integrates pretty well with them, only for a means to an end
Take the Mall Scene for instance. Shiggy walks around and acts like a civilian. He knows that civilians don't pay attention to other people, yet he still wears the hoodie to cover his face and keeps his head down to not draw any attention. He removes Father from his face and acts like any other person. He walks around completely unnoticed because he knows how to cover himself to look normal

When he sees Midoriya, he acts like any other fan. Walks up and gets friendly. Even keeps up the act of "I saw you at the Sports Festival! You're pretty impressive!" and even Midoriya thinks to himself "Wow a lot of people watched the sports festival huh" - he thinks this guy is just another civilian until it's revealed that it's Shiggy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And EVEN when it's revealed, Shiggy continues to keep up his act for the people around them. They sit on a bench, close to each other, like they know each and are friends. Shiggy's hand around the neck would be obvious if it weren't for the fact that Izuku kept his head down as well. Izuku didn't want to draw attention, just like Shiggy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AND LISTEN LOOK Shiggy doesn’t KNOW Ochako, he's never met her and he's never spoke to her, so he doesn't know that Ocha is Izuku's friend. He just thinks she's some kind of civilian who "would never suspect something sinister was happening in this peaceful society!"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So when she walks up and tells him to let go of Izuku, he looks at her and moves Father in his pocket, which was probably a fake threat to Izuku that if he didn't play along, he would kill her (Izuku likely thought he had a weapon or something). But when the kid can't even ACT like nothing bad is happening, Shiggy has to let go of Izuku and put on the most friendly apology known to man
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He completely switches to Friendly Civilian and laughs it off, then walks away, not before telling Izuku that he'll get angry if he gives chase
AND!! Even when Izuku is completely like "WHAT DOES AFO WANT", revealing that it is in fact Shigaraki to Ochako and drawing attention from the civlians, Shiggy doesn’t even drop the act fully. He's still aware of his surroundings and he's aware of the situation. He answers that he doesn't know and tells Izuku that he will kill him, before leaving calmly and quietly
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He slips out and away like he wasn’t even there. Nobody notices, because he’s learned how to act as a civilian
Like just... Tomura is so good at keeping up an act
And Tomura doesn’t lie. Every single word that he breathes is true. He ACTS like he’s all buddy-pals with Midoriya so the civilians don’t get suspicious (not that they would cuz they don’t pay attention, but it says a lot that he also took precautions), but every word he says is true
Anyway no thoughts head empty Shiggy observing civilians and how they act in order to do what he wants

The Last
I have Opinions TM. I shall now inflict them upon the innocent.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The Big Blue Boy Scout" and "Guru Goody-goody" have a lot in common, a lot in common. The main thing being that they are, within their respective universes, unambiguously the most powerful person in the world. They are also very cheerful, kind characters. They are also "the last of their kind."
So let's think about that for a second.
In our current anti-trope era of fandom, where anything that has ever been done before is bad for some reason, the "last of his kind" character is often perceived the same way "the chosen one" is, as a trite and lazy storytelling method to make the MC extra special. Now, I disagree with this. Tropes are not inherently good or bad. These two might be overused, but only because they actually are compelling when written well.
The Kryptonians and the Air Nomads were wiped out. There is no one left that Kal-El or Aang can go to in order to ask questions about their cultures, and since they were both so very young when their respective genocides took place, they obviously have lots of questions. They can try to honor their histories and traditions to the best of their abilities, but they live in worlds that know next to nothing about their people. Hanging onto those traditions will be tough.
Very few people call Clark Kal-El, or even know it's his name. His parents and lover both call him Clark. Most of Clark's time is spent masquerading as an American, participating in American culture. He has so few things to connect him to Kryptonian culture.
Aang's situation is similar. People don't understand Air Nomad philosophy. Most people have never even met an Air Nomad. He tries to explain pacifism, how sacred all forms of life are to his people, and others just... don't get it. It's not even malicious most of the time; they legitimately don't understand.
The crushing weight on the shoulders of both of these characters is suffocating. Imagine being responsible for the entire legacy of your people. When Kal-El acts, all Kryptonians act, for he is all that is left. When he makes a choice, he changes not just his life, but the legacy of Krypton. When Aang was deciding whether or not to kill Ozai, he was deciding whether or not pacifism would continue to be an Air Nomad value. There are no other Air Nomads to abide by that philosophy. If Aang isn't a pacifist, Air Nomads are no longer pacifists, because he is all that is left of them. If Kal-El of Krypton is unjust, Kryptonians are unjust, because he is the last son of Krypton.
Characters like Bruce Wayne, Zuko, Diana or Sokka can afford to be pragmatic and results oriented. They can sacrifice some of their personal integrity in order to save lives and justify that to themselves. They can say: "I'm going to lie to/steal from/harm/manipulate this person, because at the end of the day, I'm doing what needs to be done for the greater good." Putting aside slippery slope arguments (which are valid, but not a part of this issue), they can do these things, because when they transgress, only their personal integrity is affected.
For Aang and Superman though? That isn't the case. They are responsible for the moral integrity of their entire races. One can argue that isn't fair, and yeah, it most certainly is not. It's still true though. Because Aang can never just be Aang, even if he wasn't the Avatar. Kal-El can never just be Kal-El, even if he wasn't a superhero. They will always be the last son of Krypton and the last Airbender, and that... is kind of heartbreaking.

Catra x twin!sister reader where reader travels in alot of planets to find her sister and when she landed on etheria she explored the whispering woods and found melog, with their help she found glimmer and she led her to her castle and she finally met her sister. Catra wasn't pleased about it thinking that her family abounded her she just pushes reader away and goes to her room. Reader stays and went to deal with catra. They talked (mostly arguing) and in the end catra and reader hugs and they became very dear friends.
(I'm basically making you a nicer version of Catra with super girl powers (which you don't use in the story) and Lena Luthor as your wife because why not. I am also putting everyone in their early to late 20s... I also forgot to add Melog :( sorry.)
"Space log, day... 2000?" You mumble as you speak into the recorder on your ship. "It's been... 4 years since my son was born. 8 years since my people finally fully integrated with the civilization of our sister planet. 10 years since I renounced my royal title. 12 years since I met the love of my life. 16 years since my home world was destroyed by the Horde and my parents were killed. And... 24 years since I have last seen my baby sister." You breath out, having lost hope after so many years of things going wrong. "Lena and Madden have stayed on the planet Oa while I explore this last planet. It appeared almost 2 years ago and was the last place the Horde had ever been. Who or whatever is on the planet must be powerful." "This... This will be the final planet I explore. I have no hope of seeing my sister again." God you were so tired of the disappointment you felt every time you couldn't find your sister. "Happy 26th birthday." You mumble out as you get closer to the new planet. "End log."
---
"This is spaceship Kr 97. Requesting permission to land. I repeat requesting permission to land." You spoke into your radio, hoping to hear anything back. Maybe this planet didn't have the technology yet for radios? "If anyone can hear me. My name is Y/n and I come in peace. I will be landing my ship on your planet and will wait 2 days before exploring on my own." You say into your radio before putting it back where it had been hanging and controlling your ship into the planets atmosphere. It was a little bit of a bumpy landing but you landed your ship just fine on the outskirts of what seemed to be a forest. You set a 48 hour alarm on your phone. You weren't sure how the people or creatures of the planet told time, so you just stuck with what you knew. It had kept you alive so far anyways.
"Alrighty." You say to yourself as you step off of your ship. You take a deep breath as you feel the yellow sun power you up. "48 hours, let's get to work."
---
You spent the next two days cleaning up in and around your spaceship, setting up a camp, and watching how the forest worked so you knew what you could eat and what you couldn't. You had been sitting on the ground relaxing when you hear your timer go off. You click the loud noise off and stand up, grabbing the bag you had prepared. While learning the forest, you had seen some villages that seemingly lead towards somewhere and you had decided that the best course of action was to hop from village to village to see if their was a kingdom or something of that nature that you could get into contact with. You just hoped everyone was nice and that this wouldn't be a hard planet to navigate.
---
The first town you enter seems to be a farming village. You can tell because you had to walk through fields and saw, what you assume, were the livestock on the planet. You stood behind some trees for a while as you assessed how the villagers acted. You watched as kids ran around playing with their friends, shopkeepers and homeowners leaving their windows open in the nice weather, clearly not scared of being robbed. You decide that it's safe enough to enter and you have your powers to back you up incase things go wrong. It was weird because the planet had 3 moons and only 1 sun, usually planets had the suns out number moons but it was enough. You fix your cloak over your ears and tuck them back so they wouldn't be noticeable or a defining characteristic if things went sideways.
You walk slowly through the village, having expected to get some attention from your large black robe. And you do get some curious looks but it's mainly all friendly smiles. You are almost halfway through the village, aiming to enter one of the shops and ask around, when a something hits your leg. You look down and see a ball a few inches in front of your foot. You pick it up, making sure to retract your claws, and hold it out to the toddler who was staring at you and his ball. "Here you go." You say to him as you hold the ball out and shake it a little so his attention goes to it. He waddles up to you and takes the ball from you. He stares at it for a few seconds before making motions with his hands, wanting you to hold him.
Without hesitating, you pick him up and hold him close to your chest. "Where is your mother, kitten?" You ask him as he reaches up to play with your ear that were still under your hood. "Kitty!" He squeals as he knocks the hood off your head and you hear an audible gasp from behind you. "Oh my gosh, Catra I am so sorry! We didn't think you were visiting till next week. We would have prepared a feast for you and the rest of the princesses." You turn around and see an elderly looking man, who's eyes widen at the sight of you. "Have you gotten taller and cut your hair again?" He asks confused. You give him a small smile, "I'm sorry but I'm not this Catra you speak of. Are you saying there is someone similar looking to me on your planet?" You ask and the man gives you a weird look when you call it his planet but slowly nods his head. You feel hope for the first time in years and eagerly ask the man if you could stay near the town till she came next week. He gave you a bit of a weird look, not sure who you were now and unsure of your intentions, even though your reaction was positive. "Sure."
---
After returning the toddler to his mother, you basically sprinted back to your ship in excitement. "Lena! Lena!" You shout happily into the radio on your ship. Time is a little different on the planet as the sun was just starting to set but it would already be completely dark on Oa. But by your clock it was only 9, so Lena and Madden should still be awake. "Y/n?" You hear your name crackle through the radio and a smile appears on your face. "Lena you'll never believe it! There is someone on this planet that supposedly looks just like me and vice versa!" You say into the radio, feeling like a kid on Nova day. "I think it's her... I hope its her." You say as you image seeing your sister again for the first time in 24 years. "I'm so happy for you y/n! We will start making preparations to join you soon." You bite your lip in thought. "Maybe you should wait... I just wouldn't want to overwhelm her, you know?" You can almost hear Lena nodding on the other end of the phone. "That makes sense, we'll plan to leave by the end of the week if everything goes well."
"Geez I love you so much." You mumble with a wide grin. "And Madden too. Is he still up?" "No he fell asleep a few minutes before you radioed, he spent all day playing." "Oh well, tell him I love him and I'll radio back in the morning." "Okay, bye." "Bye."
---
"We need to be very careful about this." Glimmer says as she and the best friend squad enter the village who sent a letter the day before about someone who looked like Catra in their village. "We already knew that there were other people out there but as we already know not all of them are friendly." Catra walks next to Adora, numbly nodding along. Could this be it? Could she finally learn where she came from? Everyone else in the Horde had been born into it and Adora had come through a portal but no one really knew where Catra was from. "Are you okay?" Adora asked as she squeezed Catra's hand, nervous at how silent her girlfriend was. Catra just mutely nods back.
---
"This planet is simply marvelous!" The group hears you laugh out after being greeted by the village leader. "They look almost just like you Catra." Bow comments as they watch your tall figure move around as you play with the kids of the village and let them climb all over you. "Y/n!" You hear someone call your name and turn to see the village leader standing with a group of people and... Catra. They watch as you freeze and let your mouth fall open in shock. You set the kids down and encourage them to go play together. You walk towards the group with a smile. You go down the line of friends shaking their hands and introducing yourself, ignoring their looks of surprise, before finally reaching Catra. "Wow..." You breathe out in absolute awe. You can feel your eyes get misty the longer you stare at her. "You look so much like mom." You say with a watery laugh that completely sets Catra off.
"Who are you?" She asks as she pushes her finger into your chest making you take a step back. "What? Catra, I'm your sibling. I thought the similarities would make that clear." She glares at you and you can feel the whole village watching the interaction. "Just because we look similar doesn't mean anything." You move quickly and grab her right hand and hold it up next to your left one, both birthmarks showing.
Tumblr media
You watch as Catra freezes. Her face and body come to a complete stop as her eyes flicker between the identical birthmarks and your face. "I know you must have questions and I do too. But I have spent the last 8 years going all across the galaxy looking for you and right now all I want is a hug... Please?" You get out as you let go of Catra's hand only for her to push you away one last time and storm into a temporary tent that had been set up for the best friend squad.
You take a second to take a breath before following after her. "I wouldn't follow after her, she needs time to cool down." A blonde, Adora, said to you as she placed a hand on your should to stop you. "I've dealt with people with anger issues before." You say as you brush her hand off. "I know how to handle this." You say and walk towards the tent again, not giving anyone a chance to stop you.
---
"You can't hide away in here sister." You say as you enter the tent, dodging a pillow that was thrown at your head. "Don't call me that." She mumbled angrily. "And why not, you are my sister are you not? I mean everyone saw the birth mark." Catra stands up angrily. "If you were my sister, you would have spent longer than 8 years looking for me! And how can you even compare me to this "mom" that I know absolutely nothing about!? Where are they anyways, huh? Where's great old mom and dad that I have spent the last 25 years not knowing about!" She unloads onto you and your feel your heartbreak at how disheveled she looked. You shouldn't have assumed everything would be smiles and laughs when the two of you first met.
"26." "Huh?" "You're... We're 26. Our birthday was 2 days ago." "So I don't even know my own birthday!" Catra explodes. "Get out." She says suddenly and quietly. "What?" "I said get out." She repeats and you shake your head at her. "I'm not leaving." You watch as Catra's hair stand up. "I am giving you one last warning, get out now or I will do something I might not regret." You cross your arms and stare her down. "I have spent the last 8 years planet hopping with my family looking for you. I. Am. Not. Leaving."
Catra jumps at you suddenly, attempting to scratch, hit, kick, do anything to make you leave the tent. Instead of doing what she wanted, you just wrapped her in a tight hug and sat on the ground. You stay like that for a while, her trying to hold back sobs and angry tears before finally letting go and you just rubbing circles on her back to try and calm her down. "Why?" Is all she says after almost an hour of being in that position. "Why what?" "Why now?" You let out a sad sigh at her question. "Mom and Dad are dead, killed by the Horde Prime and his followers when I was 10." You can feel Catra flinch at how blunt you were and the fact that she had worked for the Horde only a few years ago. "You had already been missing for 8 years at that point, multiple search teams being sent out but none could find you." You squeeze Catra tighter as you feel yourself relive all the grief that you carried for the past 16 years.
"I managed to get most of our people off the planet and to our sister planet before the Horde completely destroyed everything. Got everyone situated on that planet, met the love of my life, renounced my claim to any throne, and finally I started looking for you." It's silent for a few minutes as Catra absorbed everything you said. "So..." You asked as you wiped your tears off your face. "What about you?"
You and Catra spent the rest of the night and next day sharing stories about your childhood and how differently but similar the two of you had grown up. You even got to tease her about Adora and the fact that you were, technically, her older sister by 2 minutes. You were also very excited when you got to show Catra around the ship you had taken to get to Etheria.
---
"So I am guessing everything went well?" Lena asked over the radio after you finally called her about coming to Etheria. "It was a little rocky at the beginning but we smoothed things over... She's great Lena, you guys are gonna love each other." You say with a giant smile on your face as you look at Catra who was relaxing in the copilot seat next to you.
