"Seriously," Touya leans on the door frame of Natsuo's room, self-satisfied smile on his face "You're crushing on...Shouto? Our Shou-chan?"
You cover your face with despair at your predicament. You can't believe you're actually telling either of them. It wasn't like you were planning too. In what universe would you even think to do that deliberately?
But Natsuo is frighteningly good at grilling you about things when you refuse to tell him. Ever since he found out about your crush, he made it his lifes mission to harass you about it. You were careful, damn it. You didn't even actually tell him, he used to his annoying deductive reasoning to figure it out. You tell Natsuo everything.
He knows about every weird medical problem you've ever had, every partner you've ever dated, and every weird fit of crying you've ever cried in your life. He's your confidant. Your best friend. So he knows there's only two sorts of crushes you couldn't tell him about.
If it was on an ex or if it was on one of his siblings. His first guess was Touya - but he figure you wouldn't be this embarrassed about that since you often wolf whistle at him when you're in the house.
Then he guessed Fuyumi, because you're still embarrassed by how pretty she is. When you said it wasn't her - he was briefly stumped before settling in a shocked silence.
"...Are you crushing on Shouto? Seriously?"
Your embarrassment told him he was right, and now you're sitting in his room and hoping the world will swallow you because you're crushing on your best friends little brother of all things.
In your defense, it wasn't always like this. You didn't see much of the youngest Todoroki at all growing up. He was in his dorms for most of highschool and Natsuo spent most of his early adulthood ducking his parents house entirely. You only met him properly when he turned twenty. They're only living together now for Touya.
You kind of wish they weren't - since it'd save you the trouble of being embarrassed twice. You've been seeing Shouto a lot recently, since you've been coming over to hang out with Natsuo.
Shouto is not the 16 year old boy you always made. He's 22 and he's got tall and lean muscle. He's polite but sweet and strangely - much funnier than you could've ever predicted. He's genuinely very kind but most of all - he's been very direct on telling you that he likes you.
You don't think anyones ever pursued you like this in your life. Both of your last relationships ended amicably but neither of them had been this...direct with you ever. Shouto is very direct, actually. Direct in telling you which honorifics to use, and telling you how nice you look, and saying he misses you often. You've been dismissive. Even you're not so desperate as to openly pursue your friends little brother.
But again, he's not so little anymore. He's taller than you now, and he's got lean muscle. He always smells great. He is incredibly pretty in the fairy prince kind of way. This is by far the worst crush you've ever had to endure in your entire life. You've tried to forget.
But just last week he walked you home after patrols, speaking casually and kindly and good god - what is with the broad-shoulders? When did that even happen?
You want to die. You want to disappear into a black hole. You want to scream and cry. Why you're crushing on a boy 4 years younger than you? Why is Todoroki Shouto of all people make your heart flutter?
"Seriously... I mean I knew he was flirting with you pretty brazenly but," Natsuo looks like he's holding back a grimace. If you weren't holding back tears, you'd hit him "...Shouto? Like...really?"
"Didn't know our little angel was such a casanova. Crazy world we live in."
"Neither of you are helping." You say exasperated. Natsuo leans back on his palms, sighing a little. "Do you think I wanted this?"
"It's not the end of the world," Natsuo offers thoughtfully. You give him a meaningful glare from the corner of his bed but he doesn't budge "I mean..I guess if I got to pick who he dated, you're not at the very bottom of the list."
You kick his side. "That's so backhanded."
"He doesn't want to admit you two are a good match," Touya says thoughtfully, unwrapping candy from his pocket. A habit he picked up trying to quit smoking "He'll be lonely if you date Shouto."
"Shut up, Touya."
You ignore both of them for a minute trying to get your bearings.
"You think we're a good match...?"
Touya laughs hard "Is that all you heard? Poor Natsu, already being abandoned."
Natsuo shoots Touya a glare.
"Touyaaaa," You drag, reaching over to tug on the bottom of his shirt "Elaborate."
"And feed your delusions?" He says, clicking his teeth "Fine. Only because it's funny."
Natsuo hmphs, and you look at him apologetically. You two will have to talk about it later. Touya rolls the candy in his mouth, pulling his shirt up to scratch at his abdomen.
"Dunno. You're like... probably one of the only people who's not gonna treat him weird cause he's a good little hero. That brat... it's probably best for him to date someone normal and civilian-esque. Not like being a hero is the most important thing in the world to him."
You flush a little. This is really, really bad. Natsuo gives you a disapproving look. You look back at him a little softer.
"I won't date him if he's off limits." You offer. Touya coos at you both.
"Well aren't you darling."
Natsuo groans, laying flat on the floor.
"Ugh. It's not like I can just say no. It's enough of a miracle that Shouto is showing interest in anyone. And if he misses out on true love, even if it's," He gives you a sideways glance and shakes his head "Even if it's with you then I can't actually stop it."
"I'll reject him if you tell me too."
"What kind of older brother do you take me for?"
"Yeah, what kind of older brother do you take him for?" Touya mocks, laughing to himself "Aren't you just a saint, Natsu?"
"Touya, I'm gonna throw you out of my room."
"Ooh, someone's mad."
Before Natsuo as a chance to come back, the sound of the door opening from the living room downstairs floats up. Shouto calls out. You feel your heart almost fall out of your ass. Touya, delighted, is the first to reply.
"Shou-chan, we're upstairs."
You make a gesture of violence towards Touya who replies by pretending to jerk off then giving you the middle finger. You don't have time to collect yourself before Shouto is upstairs. He's back from patrols and he's a little sweaty. You feel heat creep-up up your neck.
"Touya-nii, do you still—oh," Shouto smiles soft as he realizes "It's you. I didn't realize you were here."
"I came in after class."
"Alone? You should've asked me to walk home with you."
You flush. Touyas' snickering is not helping you at all.
"Isn't that out of your way?"
"It's fine. I do stuff like that a lot," You're almost disappointed until he tacks on "But it's you so it's alright."
You look up at him wide-eyed. He gives you the ghost of a smile. God you're screwed. Before you can reply, Natsuo clears his throat.
"Go wash up. You stink." He chides. Shouto immediately goes back to being a little brother, nodding his head.
"Okay. Then," He looks at you directly. You're so screwed "I'll be right back."
You wait until Shouto is finally down the hall, listening for the bathroom door to thump shut before falling back into Natsuo's bed. Touya breaks out into a fit of laughter as Natsuo sulks in the corner.
But all of it feels like white noise when you compare it to the sound of your heartbeat, thudding hard in your chest.

are there still beautiful things? || natsuo todoroki x reader
Tumblr media
synopsis/content warnings: natsuo finds himself coming back to you in times of need. after all, you’ve been doing it for over a decade. (childhood friends to lovers, hurt/comfort, domestic love, SMUT; heavy dirty talking, unprotected sex, breeding kink if you squint, natsuo is a bit posessive lol, yan!natsuo during dirty talk, idiots in love, not beta read we die like men)
wc: 3k
author's note: i wrote this as a gift for my dear friend @strawberrystepmom ! thank you so much for inspiring me, talking to me and being there for me. i wanted to show you that i really appreciated you :) <3 hope u like it
Natsuo has a habit.
Such a habit consists of knocking at your door, usually late at night – desperate, big eyes begging for help. He’s been doing it for years, ever since he was merely a lost kid. This time, his head is down and he won’t seem to fully look into your eyes.
“I didn’t know where else to go.” Todoroki breaks the silence, shaky voice leaving his chest with force.
Truth be told, you knew he’d show up at your small apartment as soon as the news broke, as soon as you saw the scarred man on the television proclaiming to be one of the Todorokis.
Touya.
You let him in – of course you do. There’s nothing in the world that would stop you from letting Natsuo in your home, and in your heart.
“Is it true?”
Your question seems to cut the tension in the air, as a knife ripping the thickness apart. Context isn’t needed: the white haired boy – man – is still staring at the coffee mug you handed him moments earlier. You’re past the point of asking how he likes his coffee, black and no sugar, thank you very much.
“No. Yes.” He finally looks up at you, dark gray eyes looking for an answer. “I… I have no idea.”
There’s silence once more - only this time, it isn’t thick with tension. It’s still heavy, with a hint of sadness. There’s only so much to be said about a dead brother coming back to life, and becoming evil. Still, you’ve known Natsuo long enough to know what he’s thinking.
“Touya was dead.”
You uncross your arms, taking your mug from the coffee table in front you. The coffee was running cold already.
Natsuo is still staring at you. You can’t help but notice there’s a certain resemblance between him and his father – his nose and eyes belong to his mother, yes, but the rest? It 's all Enji.
You can’t imagine how he feels.
“Natsuo…” You whisper his name, placing a gentle palm over his hand. “I don’t know what to say.”
He nods, recognizing your truthness. He sighs – a tired one, and exhausted one.
“I don’t think there’s a lot to be said.” His confession lifts a weight from your chest, and you’re glad you didn’t close your fist around something so delicate. “Just… I don’t wanna go home.”
It’s your turn to nod, knowing exactly what he means.
-
The first time Natsuo showed up at your door, you were merely kids.
Your mother answered. immediately recognizing him as one of the Todorokis that lived down the street. Years later, she would tell you the truth: his household was hell on earth. But, again, it wouldn’t take the brightest mind to notice that.
You were both seven. Or he was eight, maybe. You don’t remember all the details.
However, you do remember the dynamic: he’d come knocking at your door whenever things got rough at home. Your mom would feed him, you’d play video games together, and he’d get a chance at a normal life – even if only for a few hours.
“Do you wanna play pirates?” You’d ask, a toothless grin plastered on your face.
Natsuo would smile – as big as he knew how to.
“Yeah.”
-
Needless to say, you didn’t have to show him the guest room. He knows his way around.
You lean against the door frame as he takes his jacket off, throwing it on the chair besides the bed. He doesn’t look out of place, strangely so. The 6’3 man doesn’t look uncomfortable. As a matter of fact, you’ve never seen him look so at home before.
“Want me to order take out?” He asks, fishing his phone out of his backpack.
“Only if you’re craving something. Was thinking we’d cook something simple.”
He frowns, gray eyebrows knitting together.
“If you think I’m staying at your place and let you cook for me, you’re out of your mind.”
“Technically,” You hold a finger up, getting closer to him. “It’s for us.”
He scoffs, mainly in amusement.
“Absolutely not. My mother would have my head at the sheer disrespect.”
You chuckle, although not missing the shadow that crosses his eyes at the mention of his mother.
“Fine. Whatever makes you happy.”
-
“How come I’ve known you for almost 15 years and you still suck at Mario Kart?” He asks, in pure disbelief at your 8th position.
“It’s hard!” You cry, failing at avoiding another green turtle shell an NPC threw in your direction. The pink car stumbles once again. Peach has always sucked, anyway.
Natsuo finishes the race in first place, as you see Yoshi celebrate on the top of the screen
“You suck.” He adds, chugging at his can of diet coke and giving you a smirk.
You have to actively avoid acknowledging the butterflies rebelling in your stomach.
“And you’re mean.”
There’s a hint of playfulness in your tone. He takes the controller from your hand, getting closer to you. He’s so big and warm… so inviting.
“Cry about it.”
Despite the mocking, he finishes the race for you.
-
The first person to defend you from monsters was Natsuo.
Well, not actual monsters – more like shitty 5th grade bullies.
The whole playground saw it. An older kid – although the same size as Natsuo – tried to steal one of your toys. The white haired boy puffed his chest, and displayed the meanest face he could. Much like his dad.
“Give it back!” You screamed at the older kid.
Natsuo, however, didn’t ask. no, he punched the kid. Right in the stomach.
You remember gasping in surprise, but gladly taking your toy back. No one’s ever messed with you again.
It’s only fair you do the same to him every now and then.
-
“It’s getting late.” You notice, turning the television off.
“Yeah.” Natsuo gets up from your worn out sofa, towering over you. “I’m heading to bed.”
“Need an extra blanket or something?”
“Nah, I’m good.” He walks towards the bedroom door, turning on his heels halfway there.
“Uh… thanks for letting me stay, by the way. Really means a lot.”
You smile at him. He smiles back.
“Anytime, Natsuo. Knock on my door if you need anything.”
He nods, excusing himself.
-
Unsurprisingly, Todoroki knocks on your bedroom door a little after one in the morning.
“Natsuo?” You whisper, sitting up in your bed, still hazy from sleep.
“I’m so sorry.” He whispers from the half-opened door, an apologetic look on his face. “Couldn’t sleep.”
“Come in.”
He does, gently closing the door after him.
-
You barely notice the routine established by you and Natsuo.
It’s been a few days since he first came to your place. He didn’t leave – and it’s now like you wanted him too. Having him around is nice. Better than nice. You don’t wanna name what you’re currently feeling.
“I’m home!” He announces loudly, and you almost jump from your spot at the table. Your eyes scan him up and down.
“Natsuo, what’s all this?” You ask, a hint of curiosity in your voice.
He lets the paper bags on top of the counter, sighing happily at the sight.
“Went grocery shopping after visiting my dad at the hospital.”
Your shock doesn’t seem to go unnoticed by him, although he doesn’t seem to be in the mood to acknowledge it. Your eyes drift back to the laptop in front of you.
“Nice.” It’s all you can come up with.
“Got you your favorite chocolate, by the way.”
-
It’s been two weeks, and Natsuo doesn’t stay in the guest room anymore.
No, he stays with you. His giant figure can’t possibly be comfortable in your not-so-large bed, but you don’t have the heart to inquire about that.
“G’night.” He mumbles, curling up beside you.
“Night, Natsuo.” You whisper back, your words getting softly lost in the darkness.
Natsuo smells like mint and something fiery. It’s fresh, it screams his name. His white locks gently frame his face, looking like a layer of now. His lips seem soft, plushy and pink.
Natsuo is sleeping right beside you when you finally name what’s going on with the two of you, although only for you to know.
It’s love.
Sleepingly, he wraps an arm around you. Despite such surprise, you nuzzle your face in his chest.
You both sleep the whole night, peacefully – for the first time in a while.
-
There’s only so much he can hide from Fuyumi, he thinks.
“Did you officially move out?” His sister shows up in his room – his actual room, at the Todoroki household – as he’s packing another bag. The white room seems empty, soulless.
Natsuo is taken by surprise. Of course, it didn’t seem like that to him.
“Uh…” He scratches the back of his neck, avoiding all eye contact. Fuyumi’s eyes look for his, behind thick glasses. She leans against the doorframe.
“Are you staying at ____’s?”
He nods.
“Good. It’s good to at least know you’re safe.”
Natsuo blushes at his sister’s words, warmth blooming on his cheeks.
“Tell her I said hi.”
With that, Fuyumi leaves him alone.
-
At the dinner table – with food that isn’t take out, cooked by the both of you – Natsuo gets himself looking at you.
Your eyes glistening and your hands moving rapidly as you talk about your day.
His heart swells on his chest when you start speaking about something you love – something related to work, something he can’t quite understand.
Natsuo realizes he loves you and almost chokes on homemade soba.
-
That night, when you start your bedtime routine, Natsuo breaks the silence.
“I…” He starts to speak, and you look at him through his reflection in the bathroom mirror, applying nighttime moisturizer on your face, in gentle circles.
“Yeah?” You encourage him to actually start speaking, moving your hands like a fan in order to dry the products on your skin.
“I love you, _____.”
You turn around, like a deer caught in headlights.
“Natsuo…” you say his name, like a thousand times before, only this time it feels different.
“I do. Always have, I think. Ever since we were kids. I love you.” He completes, taking a strand of hair from your face. You look at him, incredulous. “I’m not asking for you to love me back, by the way. I just wanted to let you know that I do.”
He’s comfortable with just loving you.
The words seem to come back to you at such an insult.
“I’m in love with you too, idiot.”
He seems shocked at such revelation, and a stubborn smile starts to blossom on his lips. His eyes seem different now.
“You do?”
“Natsuo.” You whisper his name again. “I’ve loved you ever since you asked if I wanted to play pirates.”
He bites his lips, grabbing your waist gently.
“Yeah? What about all the boyfriends? All the other crushes?”
You figure what the hint in his irises mean.
Possessiveness.
Natsuo towers over you, and it makes your stomach do flips. You mumble something, and he brings you closer.
“Sorry, couldn’t hear that.”
“Was trying to distract myself. From you.”
He smirks, gray eyes becoming wolf like.
“Yeah, but I’m here now. And if you think I’m letting you go, you’re fucking insane.”
Your lips crash into his; desire traveling through your veins.Your tongues dance against each other, slowly and curious to taste each other. Your breath hitches in your throat as he bites your lower lip, sensually.
“Bedroom?” You whisper against his lips, in between pecs. He nods, smiling against your lips.
-
Natsuo’s shirt and your pajama bottoms get discarded somewhere from the bathroom to your bed.
Your nails gently scratch his abs, earning a reaction from him. His hips jerk against yours, and you bite back a moan. He looks at you adoringly, passionately. Your heart explodes in fireworks. All the movies and poems, books and songs about love make sense now.
“So pretty.” He mumbles against your neck, placing open mouthed kisses on your sensitive skin.
Natsuo takes his shirt off while your hands discover his body, reaching his gray sweatpants. The volume behind the soft fabric makes you smile, devilishly so.You gently grab his erection, playing with him a little, in order to discover more of his pretty sounds.
He groans, grinding his hips against you.
“You’re evil. You’re gonna be the death of me.”
Whatever leverage you thought you had is gone once he takes his bottoms off, as his dick gloriously stands against his abdomen, with heavy balls hanging below it. Your mouth slightly falls agape at his thickness as he gently strokes his cock.
Natsuo finally removes your panties, slowly. He’s taking his sweet time with you, despite your constant squirming and whines.
“You know,” He whispers, husky voice sending a shot of desire right to your core. “when we graduated high school and you told me you lost your V card to some jackass, I tried my best not to go after the bastard. After all, it wasn’t my right to.”
His fingers ghost over your now exposed pussy, feeling your sticky wetness.
“And before that, you confessed to me how you’d use the showerhead to finish, cause your fingers couldn’t do it. They’re not thick or long enough. Can’t reach all the right places, right?”
You nod, eating his words up. Slowly, your hips start to move against his hand, but Natsuo seems to not be having any of that. He places a strong hand on your waist, holding you down. He doesn’t need words to make you obey him.
“I wonder if mine can?” He asks, pushing a single finger inside of your gummy walls. Whining, you throw your head back due to his unsatisfactory rhythm. He pushes the digit in and out, curving his finger a bit.
“What, baby?” He purrs, swallowing your moans with open-mouthed kisses. “What d’you want?”
A bubble of warmth starts to bloom on your lower abdomen, sending a white-hot feeling through your entire body. There’s sweat, there’s spit, there's desire. You feel like your body might combust at any given moment.
“More, please. Need more.” You manage to babble, eyes getting glossy over the neediness.
He obliges your wishes, shoving another finger into your needy cunt.
“Fuck baby, yo’ure so fucking sexy. ‘ve been dreaming about this for so long.” He confesses, shortly after sucking a love bite on your collarbone.
Your eyes roll into the back of your head, feeling your pussy clench on his thick fingers. Right as you feel the tension start to explode inside of you, he removes his digits.
“Natsuo!” You cry, in a needy way. “C’mon, please.”
You’re not even sure what you’re asking for anymore. He smiles at you, sickeningly sweet. His white hair glues against his forehead, messy silver locks. Natsuo’s face is flushed with desire, a light shade of pink decorating his cheeks.
“Want my cock, baby? Huh? Want this as much as I do?” His clean fingers gently hold your jaw open, as he places the stained ones on your mouth. You suck on them, tasting yourself and making such dirty sounds that make him grunt.
“Yes, please. Want your cock inside me. Want you to fuck me, Natsuo” You beg, mumbling through his fingers. “Make me yours.”
The last words seem to fire a light inside of him, as he smiles at you wolfishly. Natsuo grabs his erection, teasing the tip on your wet entrance. You give him a fucked out smile, softly moaning at his actions.
“You’re such a tease, _____. I’ve been fantasizing about your sweet, tight pussy forever.” He groans, finally pushing his fat cock inside of you. It stretches you in the most delicious way, hitting spots you’ve never reached before — nor your or anyone else.
He grabs your legs, folding them against your chest, and you whine at the new found angle. It’s so deep, he’s so big. It’s overwhelming.
“Fuck, Natsuo! So good, so fucking good.”
He makes a strangled noise in return, picking up the rhythm. The slapping sound of his balls against you is filthy, and it only adds to the feeling. Natsuo – who’s usually very well composed and controlled, looks wild and predatory.
“Yeah, am I fucking you good baby? Am I fucking you dumb, so dumb you can’t even talk properly?”
You whine, only nodding in response. The bubble of warmth starts to grow on your abdomen again.
“Fuck, fuck.” He groans. “Are you on the pill?”
Rapidly, you nod, silently consenting what you know he’s actually asking for.
“Gonna feel you up so good, baby. Gonna make you mine.” He places a couple of digits against your puffy clit, rubbing them in circles, and you cry even louder.
“Cum for me, baby. Can feel you clenching down on me. Go ‘head, I got ya.”
You feel the Earth stutter on its axis as a white hot feeling explodes on your tummy, making your legs shake. Waves of fire travel through your entire body, as your vision slightly fades to black. You can feel Natsuo spill inside of you, with a groan of your name against your ear.
You stay like this, for a moment, lost in blissful silence. Hissing, he removes his now soft dick from inside of you, his cum spilling out. Slowly, your breathing comes back to normal and you sit up, finding your lover with a wet cloth on his hands.
Gently, in between soft kisses and praises of “you did so good for me” and “love you, love you so much”, he cleans you up, just enough so you won’t be too uncomfortable before summoning the energy to go shower with him.
“I love you.” You whisper.
“I love you too.”
Natsuo looks at you, adoringly, slowly taking in the fact that you’re his. The only thing he’s ever chosen in life, the only thing that actually belongs to him, he won’t have to share.
He smiles at the feeling.
“Mine.” He whispers, before kissing you one more time. “Now let’s take a shower, stinky.”

“and that’s the way I loved you.”
how your relationship with different anime men would be like, categorized by mother Taylor Swift’s song :)
tw: none, unless u count a lil toxic relationship snippets in ‘screaming and crying and kissing in the rain’
Tumblr media
“you look beautiful tonight.”
loving him is easy. these men think the world of you, partly because to them, you are their world. expect flowers from them on any occasion, or sometimes just because. an absolute gentleman through and through, would rather die than be the reason why you cry. always there to listen to you when you’ve had a hard day, always remains patient & understanding; the type to hold onto your waist in a busy crowd to guide you through. he’s always so gentle with you, always showers you with compliments but is still honest. when you fight he always tries to remain levelheaded, he never takes out his anger on you. he makes a lot of effort for you, your parents greatly approve of him, overall such a loving and kind man who rarely ever does wrong by you.

“screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain.”
loving him is complicated. there are days when he makes you smile and laugh so hard your ribs get taut, but there are also days where he leaves you feeling cold. when there are good times they’re the best you’ve ever experienced, when there are bad times they might be the worst. in a fight, he can be mean and blunt, he’ll brush you off and distance himself from you, sometimes you wonder if he’ll ever really open up to you; but through it all he’s there, apologies and gifts in tow to make it up to you. you’re the only person he thinks he’ll ever try to be good for, but there are times when he slips up. the love he has for you is so immense to the point where it scares him, which is why he acts the way he does. sometimes he thinks if he pushes you away enough you’ll find someone better for you. he can be hot and cold with you, one moment he’s sweet and loving and caring, the next he’s distant and resentful and irritable. your friends and family see you guys break up and make up all the time. overall loves you more than anything or anyone else in the world, but struggles with his feelings for you.

They were never supposed to find out about that one mistake you made in the haze of a drunken night. How could you be this stupid and sleep with their best friend after everything they’ve done for you? They took you in when you had nothing and you broke their heart and took their trust away. It was them leaving you because how can they love someone who would break their heart in such a cruel way?
„I broke your heart so carelessly but made the pieces part of me. And now it hurts what we've become 'cause you taught me how to love -It's me who taught you how to stop.“

You hated the uncertainty with them, never quite sure what exactly you are to them and they never cared to define it. You would like to think you were a couple - and you were at some point but the constant break ups only to hook up again weeks later shouldn’t become the new normal. When you decided that you’re moving on for good, they were standing at your doorstep again, begging you to let them in, that things would be different this time but they promised that the last 6 times already.
„But as I buried your flames in the dirt I watched the smoke pull your ghost from the grave. And I fear they'll only lay in wait till we are face to face again. Just when I said, "I'm moving—I'm moving on." I felt them come to life again.“

It was cute at first, how they greeted you every morning at your favorite café or how they had your order ready so you won’t even have to go in yourself. They showed you that they cared and that you were important but it became toxic once you were together as if they were your shadow. When you told them you need a break they threatened to end your life and then theirs because they NEED you to live.
„Come sink into me and let me breathe you in - I'll be your gravity, you be my oxygen. So dig two graves 'cause when you die, I swear I'll be leaving by your side.“

You two were Highschool sweethearts but life got in the way. Despite all the shared memories, inside jokes, the love and future plans with the other webbed in you two grew up to be completely different people and just thinking about spending another month with the other made each of you anxious so you decided it’s for the best to call it quits - but on good terms. The bond was strong but not even love can withstand the struggles of life.
„I think you'll notice when things become different, the good vibes in our lives won't feel so consistent. And less becomes more 'cause the weight is too heavy, I swim in the water that’s breaking your levee.“

Them hurting you was nothing new. Never physical but the emotional manipulation and abuse was getting too much. It felt like they hurt you on purpose so you would leave them and be the bad guy in the story. You knew from the beginning that this would never work out and each time they hurt you they just proved that point. When the pain got unbearable you decided to be the monster in their story and leave, confirming their delusions- They were unlovable and you were just giving up on them like everyone else.
„But every time you hurt me, the less that I cry. And every time you leave me, the quicker these tears dry. And every time you walk out, the less I love you. Baby, we don't stand a chance, it's sad, but it's true.“

Tribute!Touya x Stylist!OC Word Count: 4.5k
Hunger Games AU
A/N: This was supposed to be a couple paragraphs, but here we are. No beta we die like men. Thank you @t-tomuras for the inspiration <3 I know it’s supposed to be self-ship, but I put an OC in for my comfort.

They escaped the Reaping only to be pulled back in.
Tumblr media
The games have gotten boring. There's no shock in seeing kids fight each other in the arena any more. Sure, it serves as a reminder of the past and shows that no matter where someone is from, given the right circumstances, anyone can kill. Barbaric. But… the glamor of voyeurism, of watching kids suffer mentally and physically as entertainment, has lost its spark.
But pushing the age range for the reaping back? Giving kids more time to hope and dread, to understand what they're losing once they have a taste of a future – their future? Ripping families apart at an age where maybe someone is losing their parent rather than a sibling? Cruelly putting a decade of adults who thought they escaped the horrors of the Capital back into the running of dying? Delicious.
At least in the jaded eyes of the Capital.
For Touya Todoroki though, it’s a chance for him to finally live up to his father’s expectations. Living in District 2 has its perks – if you’re seeking glory in death. The finest training establishments for Peacekeepers also means the finest training for careers who want to put their names in the stars or die trying. Touya wouldn’t even have to sneak into these facilities if he wanted that; he’d just need to throw his last name around and every door would open for him.
Special benefits of being a colonel’s son.
But he was never interested. He skated through life putting his name on the stupid ring out of some sense of duty and familial pressure only for it never to be drawn because some other idiot volunteers. Usually it was multiple idiots all clamoring to be first.
He escapes his teenaged years unscathed.
Adulthood means nothing to him. There’s no sweet relief he knows other districts must feel now that they have one less thing to worry about – for now, nor is there any bitter resentment at losing the opportunity at doing something great and having the eyes of the country on you. Life just… goes on.
When faced with the prospect of needing a job, Touya’s options were to follow his father’s footsteps and become a low level military grunt and rise through the ranks, or join the miners in the quarries.
It was a never-ending tirade from his father about how he ‘wasted his potential’ and ‘humiliated the family name’ by going into the quarries.
A couple years passed. Touya finally got a place of his own, left a string of broken hearts, and generally felt unsatisfied with life. There has to be more to living than just waking up, working, joining his coworkers at the bar, and then going back to his shitty apartment at the end of the day to wake up and start it all over again.
And then the rules change. It happens mid-shift. A roar rises above the normal work noise. He thinks it’s another truck rolling over – that would be the second one this week. But the angry cries work their way down the line to where he’s stationed.
We’re back in the Reaping.
Fear. Chaos. Anger.
Everyone around him is in a tizzy. And Touya feels numb. Back in the Reaping?
The site clears out. People panic and run home to hear it for themselves and not through the grapevine.
Touya goes to the best source he can (unfortunately) think of; the Todoroki household.
Tensions are high.
His brother and sister sit ramrod straight around a rarely used dinner table that is more for show than anything else. Fuyumi fiddles with the locket around her neck – pictures of her new child no doubt. Natsuo’s clenched fists on the table are stark white causing the onyx band on his ring finger to stand out even more.
“It’s true,” his father says quietly. “You’re all back in the Reaping.”
Silence.
Tears trickle down Fuyumi’s face.
As adults, there will be less bravado about volunteering. Less people will want to willingly leave their lives behind and–
“I’ll volunteer.” Shouto. Perfect fucking Shouto. Of course he would. Touya has to stop himself from rolling his eyes.
“You’ll make me proud,” their father says and fondly claps him on the shoulder.
That’s that. Everyone disperses back to their own homes. If Shouto volunteers, then that’s the boys taken care of. If Fuyumi’s name gets picked, then she’s shit out of luck.
So why does Touya stand tall on the day of the Reaping? Why does his voice ring out loud and clear after the introductions are done? Why do his feet carrying him onto the stage?
Standing next to the announcer, his gaze flicks from his stunned brothers to his father. That’s why. Watching his father try and fail to control his bitter rage, his face turning dark shades of crimson. That’s why he did it. To rob him of what should’ve been a proud moment in his life.
There’s a mic in his face. He stares at the announcer who’s hungry for an answer.
“Your bravery,” they start again, “What motivates you?”
He looks at the screen behind him and smirks. He’s no longer the scrawny teenager internally mocking all the tributes. His years working have filled out his formerly lanky frame.
“To show that the Todoroki name means something,” he answers condescendingly, “And that I’m not wasting my potential.”
There’s an outburst from the stands. He refuses to look. He knows who it is. It would only be the cherry on top if his old man keeled over and died from anger right here right now.
He did it. He volunteered.
What a stupid fucking mistake.
His goodbyes are awful and he spends most of it deflecting questions from his family. Yes, he’s aware Shouto was going to volunteer. No, he doesn’t have any remorse for what he did. Yes, he definitely is thinking of family, just not in the way they’re implying. Will he survive and win? That’s to be determined.
His father doesn’t make an appearance.
The short train ride to the Capitol is spent silently with the mentors and the other tribute. His counterpart seems… alright. She has some training  and a determination that’ll maybe help her live past the first day. What can Touya do? Explosives. Operate heavy machinery. Swing a hammer. How much different can a skull be from a rock?
Peacekeepers escort them to a processing center with sterile white walls and bright overhead lights that give Touya a headache. How many of them were trained by his father?
The tributes from 1 arrive at the same time as them. He gets a glimpse of the duo before being whisked away to a slightly less off-putting room. A woman with matte black lipstick and electric blue hair styled in an angular bob waits inside.
He can feel her calculating brown eyes rove up and down his body. Taking stock.
“Like what you see?” Touya says sarcastically. She doesn’t respond, but walks up to him, the slightly dimmer light reflecting off the gold lining her gray suit.
The woman extends her hand. “Alex. Your stylist.”
“Great,” says Touya, ignoring her hand. “Just what I need. Fashion.”
Alex pulls out a tablet and a laser pointer of sorts and starts circling Touya. “Think of me as your personal storyteller,” she says and taps away on her tablet before returning to scanning him. “I use your body to tell the world about you.”
“I’m not one of the children you can dress up like a doll.”
“Good. No one needs another sob story in the lineup. There are enough people leaving spouses and kids behind that’ll try and use that to their advantage.” She stops in front of him and shines the laser from his left to his right shoulder. From this close he can see the layers of makeup the Capitol is renowned for. “Tell me you’re more interesting than that.”
“Got no wife, and no kids with my name.” Maybe a bastard or two, but who’s counting?
“And what do you do in 2?”
“Quarry work.”
“Which is?”
“You’re fuckin’ annoying. Rocks. Demolition.”
“Why not military? Your father is up there, right?”
“You do your homework,” Touya smirks, “I was on a train for less than two hours after I volunteered.”
“I have to in order to be good at my job.”
Touya crosses his arms over his chest. “What’s your real question?”
A smirk crinkles her supposedly flawless facade. “Why volunteer?”
“To be every bit the disappointment my father expects me to be. One final ‘fuck you’ just for him.”
Alex stands there for a moment tapping one perfectly manicured nail against her thigh. Lost in thought, she chews on her bottom lip for a second, the black lipstick coming off at the inner edge to reveal her natural lip underneath.
Fuck he wants to smear it. Take the perfection of the Capitol and ruin it any way he can.
“I can make this work,” she says determinedly and taps furiously at her tablet. “Your first appearance isn’t for a couple days. I want something bold; something that’ll make everyone stop and stare and the first volunteer and wonder what was going through his head.”
“Don’t dress me up like a fucking gladiator,” Dabi says. He recalls that being the go-to in the past – a show of strength and closeness to the Capitol. Gaudy.
Brown eyes meet his, and fingers that were flying fast over the screen are still for a second. “Wouldn’t dream of it.” Back to work.
“Then what, want me to show you my work uniform?” Because nothing says ‘I’m here to win’ like beige coveralls.
“I have bigger plans for you. You’re not going to be something as archaic as a gladiator, and I’m certainly not playing up to your district’s masonry export. If I wanted that I’d go to 12 and deal with the coal mines.” She turns her tablet off and tucks it away to stare up at him. There’s a small spark in eyes otherwise devoid of life. “I know about the secret export that the Capitol overlooks. We’re going military chic.”
Touya’s face crunches into a sneer. “Why don’t you raid my father’s closet, there’s nothing but uniforms in there.”
“You do a good job of looking like a stuffy asshole on your own,” she counters. “I’ll make you look good. You just need to focus on making sure you can win.”
“Thanks for the vote of confidence,” Touya says sarcastically.
Alex goes to the door and knocks twice. “I have full confidence in you Touya — if you want it, I believe you can win it all.”
The Peacekeepers return and escort him to the training grounds. More like a prison with shiny luxuries meant to distract them from the fact that they’re going to die in a few short weeks.
When the tributes are rounded up the following day, they’re brought back to the harshly lit facility. Alex waits for him again in their room, hands clasped behind her back. Wisps of bright blue hair purposely fall out of the two buns at her neck and barely graze the white dress covering her lightly tan skin. The loose material is cinched at her waist with a thick golden belt.
For someone who doesn’t want to dress her tribute as a gladiator, she pulls off the toga-esque dress well.
Alex raises an eyebrow and nods to a clothing rack beside her. Touya approaches it and nearly drops the only thing hanging there on the floor when he realizes what it is.
“You can’t be serious,” Touya says.
Alex’s smile drips with overwhelming sweetness that sets Touya on edge. “Today is all about you and making you look good. That’s what you’ll wear today. I’ll step out of the room for three minutes.” Her dress flows behind her as she walks out of the room.
“You’ve got to be shitting me,” Touya mutters to himself. Regardless, he pulls the clothing off the hanger and strips.
The black, lightweight bodysuit bends easily with him. He gives a couple test jumps with no hindrance. Black boots with thick soles remind him of his work boots – but much better quality. Something the Capitol can no doubt afford. A subtle dark blue honeycomb pattern runs throughout the suit and is only noticeable in the light. Silver metal plates are seamlessly worked into the chest area, forearms, and various points in the back.
There’s a small knock at the door. Alex slips back inside, her eyes greedily roving over Touya’s body again. The corner of her gold stained lips quirks up briefly.
“Is this it?” Touya asks. He extends an arm and moves his bare wrist around. A pair of gloves would help. Immediately he drops his arm. Help? Help what? This is just for show. It won’t help him in the arena.
“I have some accessories to try out over there.” Alex points to a table Touya didn’t notice before in the opposite corner. “You’re my dress up doll today.”
“And this?” Touya gestures to his outfit.
“You’re the future of Peacekeepers.” Alex reaches a hand out and hesitates. She meets Touya’s gaze and hesitantly asks, “Can I?”
He nods and fights the heat rising up his face.
“Naturally, it’s functional,” Alex says confidently. Her nails tap against the metal plating on his forearm. “In a real fight, this would help protect you without the clunkiness the current Peacekeepers have.”
“And protect the vital organs.” Touya can’t help but notice the not so decorative metal covering certain parts of his body.
Alex smiles impishly. “Precisely. Titanium-reinforced plating protects key organs, and a strong reinforced weave body suit resists knife and other close combat weapons.”
Touya frowns. This could actually be for a Peacekeeper in the future. Is he just her toy to promote her fashion line or whatever?
He should be angry. He should tear it all off and wear a his fucking work uniform. He’s going to die, and she’s using him as a model.
But it doesn’t matter. He agreed to this. He volunteered for this. And so what if she wants to use him?
It shouldn’t sting as much as it does…
“If you’re trying to get on my father’s good side to gain his favor, you chose the wrong son to align yourself with,” Touya says bitterly.
“Why would I get on his good side?” Alex tilts her head, “You’re doing this for whatever personal vendetta you have against him.”
“And possibly outfitting the future Peacekeepers hadn’t crossed your mind?” he quips.
“Of course it did,” she snorts, “But I have other avenues for that if I really want to. For now, I enjoy the freedom I get with you tributes.”
Freedom. Tributes. How ironic.
Alex floats over to her accessory table and comes back with a pair of black gloves lined with silver. “Put these on.”
She flits back and forth between the table and Touya, holding up various tools and having him put things on and take things off. It feels like an hour of bartering for different accouterments. No, the belts are overkill. Yes, the gun and knife harnesses are fine. Yes, kneepads are bulky, but they’d be practical. No, he will absolutely not wear anything that covers his neck entirely.
He thinks it’s over and he can go – where? He doesn’t know. Anywhere but here – but Alex drags Touya over to a full length mirror. He’s startled by his own appearance. Alex wanted military chic, and she delivered in a cyber punk, dystopian way. He looks like he should wear a faceless mask and keep the masses bent through fear.
He looks like a minion trained by his father.
He looks like someone his father would be proud of.
Brilliant blue fills the lower half of his vision. Standing on her tiptoes, Alex runs her hands through his hair. Her nails scrape his scalp lightly and send shivers down his spine. This close, he can smell her perfume — an amber and rose mix. To someone who has no time for luxuries like perfume, it’s an assault on his senses, but by Capitol standards it’s rather lackluster.
“What’re you doing?” he murmurs before clearing his throat and asking the question again in a harsher tone.
She frowns and runs her hand through his hair again, pinning it back between her fingers. “Trying to figure out how I want your hair styled,” she says absently.
“Wouldn’t the mirror be better for that?” He gestures at the enhanced mirror, no doubt recording his every move.
With a huff, Alex steps back and plants her hands on her hips. “Is that what you want?”
No.
“It’ll make this go faster.”
“Fine.” Alex taps the mirror and pulls him over. Bright lights illuminate his face. Alex taps his hair on the reflection and a menu pops up. “I was thinking about having it slicked back or parted instead of this spiky mess you leave it in.”
She swipes through a couple hairstyles, pausing on a couple to see his reaction.
Touya turns his head on a couple and stares at his augmented reflection. Slicked back doesn’t look half bad. Parted is a no go.
“I look like my brother like this,” Touya grimaces at the near perfect Natsuo hairstyle, “But slicked is fine.”
Alex studies his reflection. With a wave of her hand everything resets.
“One more option.” Pulling up a color wheel she drags the color selector to black. Touya watches his hair change from stark white to inky black. “Keep it styled as you have it and change the color. Then during your interview go with slicked back.”
Hair dye?
He does look sinister with it. Deadly.
“Do it.”
It’s a whirlwind of activity before the parade. Lambs being led to the slaughter.
He’s harnessed into the chariot with the other District 2 tribute who sports a similarly designed suit. Her hair is pulled back in a low bun and her face is caked with enough makeup to be mistaken for a Capitol native.
They’re the second ones in. Cheers and roars from the audience and the warm sun slam into him. When was the last time he felt the sun? On the day of the Reaping?
A round camera flies with them, zooming in on their outfits and faces. Without thinking, Touya raises a hand and makes a finger gun. This one’s for you, old man. Pulling the ‘trigger’, he smirks and goes back to ignoring the device. The crowd’s reaction is deafening.
He ignores the other chariots coming to a rest beside them. He ignores the President and his speech. He ignores the audience.
Calm.
Cool
Collected.
Keep a level head.
Survive.
With a jolt, his chariot is following District 1’s out.
He’s plunged back into darkness and artificial lighting.
Unhooking himself, he hops down and purposefully walks back to his room. Keep the facade going as long as possible.
Silence is just as bad as thousands of people cheering for him.
Amber and rose teasing his nose is the only warning he gets before warm arms wrap around his neck. “Genius! Pure genius.” Alex’s hands trail down his arms. “You made this work for you and the audience loved it.”
He lets her prattle on but doesn’t listen. Instead, his eyes follow the curve of her cheeks and the spark in her eye. There’s even flecks of gold in her irises. How much of her is actually her and how much is changed for the Capitol? Does it really matter? He drinks up her essence and commits it to memory.
Tumblr media
A week passes. Much like the Peacekeepers training in his district, Touya’s kept to a tight schedule. Eat. Sleep. Train. There’s more to it though – layers and layers of politics; impressing the right people, finding allies to fight alongside, measuring up threats.
Trying not to get to know the people he’ll have to kill.
It’s after a brutal day of training when Alex whirls into the room, her eyes ablaze.
“I heard you took a beating in training today,” she says. Walking over to the wall, she pushes a panel and drags a hidden clothing rack out.
“Is that concern I hear?” Touya taunts.
“Take your shirt off.”
“Bossy,” he scoffs but lifts his shirt knowing full well that if he doesn’t do it, she’ll do it for him. He turns and tosses his shirt in a corner.
“You have your final interview tonight and I need to see if there are bruises where-” There’s a pause. Touya smirks. He knows what she’s seen. “There’s a tattoo.”
One he got as soon as he was old enough and had the money. The first thing he purchased on his own. A dragon that starts at his left shoulder and wraps around his back, crosses his abdomen, and ends below the belt. “And?”
“I didn’t know you have a tattoo,” she says bluntly. He watches her eyes follow the scales wrapping around his hip. “How… How far does it go?”
“Interested in what’s below the belt?”
“I’m interested in how I can use it.”
“In that case, find out for yourself.” Touya expects some banter – a witty retort telling him where he can shove it. But nothing comes. With a sigh he pats the end of the art. “The tail ends on my thigh.”
“Okay. Okay.” Alex says, hands clasped together tightly in front of her mouth. Even with all her makeup, Touya can see the flustered glow rising in her cheeks. “I can work with this.” A pause. “I can work with this.”
“You sound so confident,” Touya says sarcastically. That gets her attention.
“I am a professional,” she snaps back, but it seems to be more of a reminder for herself. She clears her throat and marches over to him. Her eyes pinpoint every bruise on his chest from training. “I’ll cover those up, but we’re leaving your art on display for everyone to see.”
“What, no shirt?”
“No,” she smirks, “You’ll have a shirt… of sorts.”
Turns out ‘of sorts’ means ‘mesh shirt under a leather jacket. Much to Touya’s chagrin, his verbal sparring partner remained quiet during their time together – only answering questions when he asked.
In the end, Touya ends up in leather pants and jacket with neon blue lighting at the seams. Even his boots from the parade were updated with the same strips of light. The only alteration Alex made on site was removing the zipper of the jacket and installing more lights in its place to keep it open and exposing just enough of his tattoo to pique Caesar Flickerman’s curiosity.
True to her word, Alex slicks back Touya’s hair for the interview.
And as usual, he’s impressed with her work.
They’re the first ones to gather at the studio. The other tributes trickle in with their mentors and stylists, but Touya ignores them all. The general buzz of noise around him doesn’t compare to the frustrating silence between him and Alex.
“I don’t know what they’re going to ask, but the vibe I’m going for is ‘play boy’,” Alex finally says. “Make the women want you, and the men want to be you. Confident. Charismatic. Charm the money out of their accounts.”
He lets her ramble for a minute more before sweeping up both her hands in one of his own. Wide brown eyes framed by blue hair stare at him.
She’s shaking.
“Stop,” he says in a gruff voice. “You’re worrying. Where did the confident stylist who wanted to take on supplying the Peacekeepers go?”
“This is your last chance to make a good impression before you go in the arena tomorrow. You need them to like you,” she blurts out. As if he didn’t already know that.
“Whatever happens happens,” he shrugs. “Pull yourself together.”
“I’m pretty sure that’s supposed to be my line.”
He hears his name and thunderous applause. Dropping her hands, Touya steps back.
“It’s my time.”
“Good luck,” she whispers. Was that meant for his ears? He almost stops. Almost. But she’s right, he needs all the money he can finesse out of these people.
Tumblr media
The day of the Games is a somber affair. A bodysuit waits at the foot of his bed for him, and he wonders for a moment when that arrived. He pulls it on and waits silently in his room. No doubt his counterpart is in the main dining area with the mentors going over strategy. He should be there too. But starting this afternoon it’ll be just him.
So why not start being by himself earlier.
He even opts to wait in the arena loading zone by himself. Until Alex arrives to make last minute appearance alterations.
“No special outfit for me today?” Touya asks and gestures to his bodysuit.
“No.”
Right. And he knew that too, but damn, any conversation would be appreciated right now. “Any advice?”
“Don’t die.”
A voice booms through the intercom in the room. Two minutes, tributes.
“Alex.” Desperation rises in his gut. “Kiss me.” Don’t let the last thing I hear and see of you be misery.
“What?” Deep brown eyes filled with pain stare up at him. Fuck. It hurts to see. It’s not the first time he’s left a woman with that look on her face before, but dammit why did it have to be her?
“Just once, before I die.” He’s not pleading. Touya Todoroki doesn’t beg. “You can’t refuse a dying man’s wish.”
“Touya,” Alex smiles faintly, “You’re not going to die.”
“You don’t know that.”
“You’re going to win.”
“Alex…”
“I know you will,” Alex says fiercely. “You have to.” He hates the way her voice starts to break and quaver. “I… I don’t want to watch you die.”
“Why?”
Say it.
“You know why.”
“You’ll regret it if you don’t say it now.”
Say it. For me.
The intercom goes off again. One minute, tributes.
“I won’t ask ag-”
Soft lips are on his. He wraps his arms around her body and pulls her close. Fuck the Peacekeepers in the room. He’s going to die, and he’s going to enjoy this last moment with Alex.
Nails rake through his hair and elicit a groan from him. He digs his nails in and deepens the kiss. One minute feels like an eternity, but Touya takes it all – her taste, her scent, her sounds – and commits it to memory. Breaking the salty kiss, he stands on the pad and watches the glass casing come down around him at the last second.
Drying her tears, Alex beams at him. Probably trying to stay strong until I’m gone. “Come back to me, Touya.”
And maybe he will.

I had yesterday again a long discussion with a "Toya should die because that's what he wants" person, and I've been thinking again about what exactly happened in "Shoto:Rising" (haha, Hori is driving me insane with that chapter, leaving it hanging like that)
Anyways, you know the page... - Something clearly happens here and Touya's POV of Shouto changes from seeing Shouto as a monster to seeing him as a crying child.
Tumblr media
The quote coming from Ch 350, where Touya talks about surpassing his limits - and everything is flipping around. But right before that scene, he talks about wanting to go home, wanting to see what changed, wanting to be still seen and walking away feeling that his existence is pointless and that the family left him behind.
Tumblr media
Touya chose to become Dabi, chose to surpass his limits and destroy his body because that's how he can leave a mark on the world. If he cannot be his father's legacy, he can be the one to destroy that legacy.
Tumblr media
But then when Touya goes to Gunga, he gets the things he wanted to see:
Being seen by his father
The family changing and welcoming him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And sees that it would have taken so little to not end up like this.
Tumblr media
The grief and unfairness of it all makes him crack, unable to turn off the fire:
Tumblr media
Or in the volume version, where the sequence is different:
Everyone arrives
Endeavor watches him
Tumblr media
3. Dabi fades into a shadow - a shadow with pupils - and it's revealed to be Touya, who just for one moment gets his "happy ending".
Tumblr media
4. Then Dabi starts to crack apart because "if it was so simple, why not sooner"
The next time we see Touya is when Shouto enters the fire ball that's breaking apart:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If the first (Ch 350) "flip" or "black and white inversion" (as the Japanese says) is Touya turning into Dabi and instead of wanting to go home and find meaning there, he wants to find meaning by burning down the home
Then I think the second (Ch 390) black and white inversion is Dabi turning back into Touya - realizing that he wants to go home, he wants to live. And Shouto is the one who can give it to him.
As usual with Touya, we get an unreadable word - so we don't know what he's saying, but Touya's desperate eyes and Shouto's crying face does remind me of the "you looked like you needed saving" moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hesitate to take too literally Touya's ranting afterwards - especially because of the way Natsuo reacts (someone who is very familiar with Touya's rants doesn't seem to take it literally like Touya wants to die.)
Tumblr media
And I think especially because the apology let Touya express finally the rage that he's been trying to express through his Dabi persona's destruction:
Tumblr media
He is really really ANGRY.
So I do feel like the "flip" / "black and white inversion" inside Touya is this realization that he does want to go home after all, mixed with the anger / grief of "why not sooner".
I don't have the feeling that he want to die anymore, even if his words are angry and desperate. And even if he wants to die, I don't necessarily agree that villains should get everything they want even if they are victims themselves.
I think it's fitting that Shouto stops the Endeavor-Touya murder suicide and I think just like Endeavor doesn't get the hero way out, Touya also shouldn't live and die only on his own terms.

four months into getting to know each other, shouto finds him by touya-nii's shrine. his little brother gently sits down beside him and offers a small prayer.
"yumi-nee-san," natsuo wonders if his little brother will ever drop the second honorific, "said you were the closest to him," shouto says quietly.
after all these years and the use of past tense still makes his heart break. 'you are the closest to him' he wants to correct but that wouldn't make sense anymore. touya-nii hasn't been talked about in the present tense since before middle school. does shouto even remember a time before nii-san's dea-, disappearance?
"yeah, i was," he says, eyes never leaving the photo. it's the one nii-san took for sixth-grade picture day. kaa-san had got him all dressed up and he had hated it. somedays he thinks if he looks close enough, he'll see the displeased pout on nii-san face. "why?"
his little brother says nothing for a long time, back ramrod straight. natsuo has no idea what's going on in that head of his. shouto has so few tells that he's practically a blank slate. natsuo hates his father.
then slowly and so quietly, he has to strain his ears to catch it, shouto stammers out, "do-, do you think he would have liked me?"
natsuo's immediate reaction is to say 'yes'. yes, of course, touya-nii would've loved you. yes, of course, touya-nii would've crossed the heavens for you. yes, of course, he would've loved you shouto; you're his precious younger brother.
but he remembers the way nii-san used to spit out shouto's name when he was a kid. the way his brother's mouth wrapped around it, the face he made, like he had just eaten something disgusting. he remembers the way touya-nii had become almost crazed by the end, hellbent on proving himself the rightful heir to their shitty father's legacy. he remembers the way touya-nii had said, "i just need to prove that i'm better than him,"; the 'him' said with such bitterness and contempt.
he knows instantly that touya-nii would not have liked shouto. that this house and his father would have twisted any ounce of love, nii-san would've held towards shouto, into jealousy and hatred.
(this house may have ruined all of them but it only ever broke two of them.)
natsuo can't say any of that to shouto. his kind little brother who forgave him for not being there. his amazing little brother who falls in love with every cat he sees. his wonderful little brother who has a wickedly dry sense of humor. his soft baby brother who loves him and yumi-nee with a passion. his tender-hearted baby brother who still worries if his long-gone older brother would've liked him.
no, natsuo can't tell shouto that nii-san wouldn't have like him. shouto will internalize it like he does with everything else that hurts him. and there is already so much that hurts shouto, he will not add to that list. his baby brother smiles these days, nothing big like his green-haired friend, but quiet, lovely, ones all the same. shouto talks more these days. they have dinner together when natsuo is home. his baby brother laughs now. it's a miracle like nothing else in this world.
shouto is the best thing to come out of their house and natsuo will die before he ever hurts his little brother. so instead, he curls an arm around shouto's shoulders and pulls him into a loose side-hug.
"of course!" he lies cheerfully, ignoring the ache in his chest, "touya-nii would've loved you. you're his — and our —precious little brother after all. there is no universe in which he wouldn't have loved you."
the tips of his baby brother's ears go red and his pleased little answering smile makes the ache of lie go away. natsuo will tell a thousand more lies if it means shouto never stops smiling like that.

wrote more stuff at work for friendoes. (Kakashi x OC| Natsuo x OC | Hawks x OC | Obito x OC | Gray x Juvia | Jellal x Erza)
for @goodnightlover
prompt: "i didn't die." "you were dead to me."
__________
Before he could take one look into the guild hall someone viciously attacked Gray by throwing her whole body onto him. It was not like he hadn’t been ready for this specific ambush, no, Gray had been trained for this for many years and this point and braced his body to take in the impact. Maybe he had even slowed down a little upon getting to the Fairy Tail building, so that all his teammates entered before he did, leaving him outside with only his attacker. Maybe.
“Gray-sama,” Juvia chimed, her head snuggling against his cheek and he murmured defensively something about how she needed to stop, but left his head right there for hers to touch. He was also glad to see her again, it had been at least a month since the last time they had spoken and he had thought a lot about her since then, so he was glad to have her right by his side once more. Not that he would loudly proclaim these feelings, of course.
Juvia grabbed him and pulled him closer, her voice sounding a little like she was sulking: “Gray-sama was gone for so long, Juvia was all alone.”
“Nonsense,” Gray said and got out of her tight grip, “You were with the guild.” Juvia made a face and it told him what he already knew: Juvia liked the guild and the people there a lot, but she liked spending time with nobody as much as with him. He told himself that this was nothing to be proud of, but he still was. Feelings weren’t cooperating with him as much nowadays as they used to.
She finally fully let go off him and jumped back on her feet, the blue top that she was wearing revealed a part of her skin beneath. A shudder went through Gray as he caught a glimpse of the scar that sat on her hip there. He pressed his teeth together.
“Gray-sama isn’t listening, is he?” Juvia said, putting her face closer to his again to gain his attention. “What is he staring at?”
Gray averted his face away from hers, feeling a little heated in his ears with her so close. “When will you finally get rid of that scar?”
“Never,” Juvia didn’t even hesitate before she replied. “This scar reminds me of Gray-sama and the sacrifice we are willing to do for our love.”
“Well, it reminds me of failure.” He shook his head. “It reminds me that I have to get much stronger to be able to make sure such a sacrifice will never be necessary again.”
She clasped her hand together and was already half singing again. “Gray-sama is already so strong. Juvia thinks, he should trust more in his own strength and of course into her ability to protect him.” She blinked with her big, dark blue eyes at him.
Somehow her reply made him angry. He turned around to her directly. “But that is not how it should be!” Gray yelled, a little louder than maybe necessary, because the conversation in the guild hall suddenly came to a halt. He couldn’t stop himself anyway. “I should protect you. That’s how it should have been back then, and it should definitely be now. I don’t- I don’t ever want to see you dead again. That’s why I’m on this laughably long quest. That’s why I need to be stronger. That’s why I hate…” He tapped with his hand to his own, now magically naked, chest and circled the scar, “.. this scar that marks my utter failure.”
“But..,” she reached out her hands to lightly touch the back of his hands, “… Juvia didn’t die.”
“You were dead to me.”
Gray pulled his hand back and took a step away. “You were not moving, not breathing, your blood was not circulating in your body, but mine, keeping me alive while you were slipping away. And I couldn’t do anything, but watch yet again. You don’t understand how often I see this in my nightmares!” Yes, he could have checked the pulse a little longer, stayed by her side just for a few more minutes to watch help arrive. If he had been patient, if he hadn’t lost his cool, he’d known she was alright right away, but too many people had sacrificed themselves for him all through his life and when it was her it was just too much.
Juvia stood still in place, her hand still reached out to his that was now out of her reach. His anger puffed into smoke and his heart sank when he noticed the tears in the corners of her eyes. “I’m sorry-,” she started, but he cut her off by stepping forward: “No, don’t- don’t apologise-“
“Fuck.” He picked up the hand that was still hanging in the air with both of his. “I don’t- don’t hate that scar this much. I don’t mind that you have it, I’m sorry for yelling.” There was very little that he hated more than Juvia crying because of something he had done. It had happened too often and needed to stop. “I’m sorry, okay.” Then, softer. “I – I know that you’ll always look after me and I am very thankful for that.”
She put her head down against his hands holding hers and he couldn’t stop himself from leaning his own head down so he could put his forehead into her hair. They just stood like this for a while until Natsu could be heard through the open doors: “Geesh, do all of ya need to be so damn dramatic?”

Dabihawks fairy tale fusion where they get transported into a series of random disney movies by a quirk. Instead of being the main couple in the story, they are the side characters who needs to get the main couple together in order to get out. Cue various shenanigans of our resident dumbasses trying to wingman for their lives.
Natshig in a rapunzel world where Dabi is mother gothel and Hawks is the captain of the royal guard lol.
"Oh fuck you let Shiggy get out of the tower."
"You said Natsuo was already on his way!"
"That didn't mean you should let them loose, you fucking dumbass!"
dabihawks during the lantern scene almost burning the boat they are on trying to spy on the two lovebirds and is the reason why the kiss didn't happen.
Next on the list is a fuyurumi aladdin au, with Dabi as jafar and Hawks as the genie. Dabi is very offended because how dare the quirk assume that he'd like to overthrow his father's country, the old bastard can have his crusty ass kingdom. Dabi doing the trials instead of Rumi - bc the girl was too busy thieving and simping for princess Fuyumi - and having a shouting match with genie!Hawks when he finally got to the lamp because why the fuck is this cave so complicated??? Do you want me to die??? Hawks looking at Dabi with a flat stare and saying "That's exactly the point of the traps, Dabi.". I just want them in the "A whole new world" sequence stalking the two on their own carpet and realizing that they aren't paying attention to fuyurumi anymore. They're having their own date up in the clouds, surrounded by sweet music.
The next fairy tale they went to is a Cinderella au todobaku, with Hawks as the fairy god mother and Dabi as the cat that chases the rats in the movie. The moment Hawks realizes who Dabi turned into, the hero laughs for so long that they almost missed the ball bc fairy god dumbass was too busy heckling Catbi. Dabi is very upset in that one because why is his baby brother in a shimmering blue gown while he's stuck as a furball in the very muscular and very warm arms of Hawks, getting carried around their whole time there. They didn't really need to intervene that much on that one except for stopping Bakugou from exploding Deku when he realizes the glass slipper can fit on the green haired boy. Shouto is very upset when he saw the two together and kissed Bakugou right there and then. (Izuku is terrified for his life in the background, the poor boy doesn't know what's happening.)
When they thought they were about to go home, imagine their surprise when they get transported into another world but with themselves as the main character. Cue The Little Mermaid au but with dabihawks. Haha imagine if Prince Eric was a completely different person, probably Chisaki, and Dabi turning back around when he saw the dude drowning. He doesn't care if he gets stuck in this world forever, he's not about to save the creep (hell would freeze over before he kisses the man.). So what if he was expecting to perform cpr on Hawks, no one would know how disappointed he is that he didn't get to save the hero. Pirate captain!Hawks seeing Dabi sulking on one of the stones and immediately recognizing him just from the eyes alone. They spend the rest of the day on the seas together and had a kiss by nightfall with Rumi and the crew singing "kiss the boy" in the background.
They wake up back in canonverse, now with new realizations and information on one another, yet not giving a fuck and continuing making out because they already had a taste of it once, the both of them can never let go of the other now.

This might be an odd question, but do you have any tips or preferences when it comes writing Natsuo? Asking for *ahem* reasons...
Ok well I guess like with all fanfic writing I use canon as a jumping point. He’s not exactly a flat character because the few moments he’s given imply a lot of depth, and it’s pretty fun to tease out that depth.
What we know from canon:
Out of all his siblings, Natsuo is the only one who appears to have a “normal” social life. He has a girlfriend who he presumably met during a university class, and he’s implied to prefer hanging out with her and his other friends instead of going back to visit his childhood home (much to Fuyumi’s annoyance lol). Based on his interactions with others he seems to be a sociable and friendly person (when Endeavor isn’t around to sour the mood at least). Personality-wise he also seems to be a confrontational person, in the sense that time and again he doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable conversations or topics- he prefers to air out all the grievances instead of letting them fester.
Currently, he and Fuyumi are the closest out of all the family members. They grew up together and they have the most normal sibling relationship out of everyone (the bar is on the ground tho aljsbd). In the scene where we first see them visiting Rei in the hospital together we also see them bantering and playfully poking at each other and he loves and respects her enough to put up with Endeavor for her sake.
It is no secret that Natsuo despises Endeavor—for being responsible for Touya’s death, for his treatment of Rei and Shouto and most likely also for the way he left Fuyumi as the responsible “adult” in charge of the home. The latter is implied from the way Natsuo spoke about how he tried to help her, ie with the cooking, but he was forced to stop when Endeavor complained about his cooking so it became Fuyumi’s responsibility again.
Then there’s all the trauma surrounding Touya, the way he feels like his brother wouldn’t have had to die (and become a villain) if only he’d listened to him when he needed it and maybe talked him out of some of his more extreme beliefs. It’s implied that he’s studying his current degree (medical welfare I think?) because of Touya, because he wants to help more people like his brother. There’s a lot of (irrational) guilt wrapped up in his feelings about Touya, but as seen in recent chapters he’s willing to put in the work and walk the long and difficult road to mend things between Touya and the rest of the family.
Now onto headcanon territory (most of which are extrapolated from canon):
I think that he has extremely low self esteem, due to the neglect he suffered while growing up. Not just from Endeavor, but from Rei too—here’s some thoughts I’ve already had about this, copy-pasted from the end AN of ch13 in WHFO:
I've always gotten the feeling that she and Natsuo were never particularly close, especially before she was hospitalised. Because he must've been what, 3 when she had to pass him over to be raised by the housekeeper while she completely shifted her focus to Shouto? Not to mention that his physical resemblance to Endeavor would've made it hard for her to even look at him, especially as her mental health spiralled. I just feel like Rei never really got much of a chance to get close to him the way she did with her other children, which is sad because that means Natsuo didn't have much of a relationship with either of his parents when he needed it most during his formative years faksjdlfs that is most definitely not going to have an impact on him at all, nope :)
Expanding on that I think he is also incredibly affection starved, and even as he strives to make a life for himself outside the family a part of him might always find it hard to accept praise or even just the idea that people would genuinely think he’s great to be around or good at things in general. Just you know, general symptoms of someone who had a childhood of emotional neglect.
Because of the whole thing with Rei I also think that he’s hyperaware of how much he physically resembles Endeavor. Does this mean he’s probably insecure about his looks as a result? Yes I do like to think so, especially for the Angst™️. It also doesn’t help that all of his other siblings look like their mum so he’s got that extra dose of feeling like the odd one out.
I also really like the headcanon that he inherited Endeavor’s short temper and general anger issues. Not only because that’s Angst Deluxe, but also because it would be interesting to explore how he grapples with it, and the internal conflict he feels about how scared he is of becoming like his father. This is why I love writing scenes where he’s arguing with his siblings or shouts at them only to watch them flinch because the psychic damage + self-loathing that would follow? Impeccable. Unparalleled. 👌

My convoluted feelings about Toga... what now?
Tumblr media
So after reading a bunch of metas all over the internet, my feelings about Toga's survival are more convoluted than ever. The fandom is basically divided into two parts:
Yes, Toga died for good. She lived, loved and died on her own terms yada yada (whatever I have been saying in my previous posts)
V/S
The hopeful part of fandom, that thinks after this type of dramatic closure Toga will somehow be revived because it goes against the themes of our story etc etc
...
Honestly, I can see why a bunch of people are saying this and then I found another Dabi Toga parallel which convinced me even more that maybe,...maybe there is an actual chance of Toga's survival!
Now hear me out!
There are literally a bunch of people who think All Might should have died in the Kamino arc, because his story arc concluded there but he survived. He survived and learned to live a life without his power, as a normal person and learn that even as a person be can make great changes.
MHA is not about people dying. Nothing good comes out of it. Twice's death proved that. Hawks murdered Twice but that came flying back at him when Toga unleashed the SMP again.
Plus, we had the Todoroki family arc concluding just before the TogaChako arc and Dabi also had the same realisation...that why not sooner?
Tumblr media
But he survived.
Despite all the injuries he survived. Because Endeavour and Touya dying together could also have been a great conclusion to their character arcs but was it fair? Think about the Todoroki family who would have been left behind. Think about the backlash that Shouto, Rei, Fuyumi and Natsuo would have faced.
Touya dying meant they failed.
And then there is TOGA.
She literally had the most chances of survival in this battle! She is also the youngest of the group. Her dying would be a true tragedy because if a little girl like her couldn't be saved then who would?
It's similar to how they saved Eri from Overhaul. Remember how even her quirk was considered a curse?
Tumblr media
Only for the story to remind us that her quirk is not in fact a curse but a blessing, by which Deku was able to defeat Overhaul.
Children are literally earthen pots, and they grow into whatever shape you provide them with. Toga's family was horrible just like Touya. Even though Touya burned her house, that contained all those horrible memories, that place still remained in her heart.
Toga finally found someone who was willing to accept her wholeheartedly. Ochako finally managed to save Toga only for her to die such a tragic death. Ochako tried so hard to save Toga, only for Toga to sacrifice her entire life for Ochako.
Tumblr media
Think about the backlash it would have on Ochako. At first I thought it would inspire her to become a better hero and save more lives but she was already feeling horrible about making Toga cry. Now she would feel like she took Toga's life. She took Toga's happy future, even if it was Toga who willingly volunteered.
She would live with the survivors' guilt her entire life!
Tumblr media
This doesn't feel right because this arc is also about making a little girl smile, and then do everything to make sure that she keeps that smile.
Tumblr media
...
So what do you guys think?

Another quick rection from me, this time for the 390 bnha leaks!!!!!! :
Iida and Shoto's friendship is everything to me. They have now helped each other reach beyong their family darkest times and have given the absolute most for each other. I love them soo much!!
This justice and happiness for so many meta writers that have been telling the fandom it'd be like this. I salute those writers, wishing them an amazing time on their "I told you so".
I'm so glad Horikoshi made Enji acknowledge verbally and explicitly all the mistakes he has committed against his family and made him apologize to every one of them individually. He mistreated his family in many different ways but they all deserved closure. The ones following me for a while know that I'm not an Endeavor fan, but I appreciate what he brings to the narrative sometimes.
While I'm pleased that Enji is finally accepting his responsibility inthe fallout of his family,it scares me a little because I know the fandom would start fighting about wether Rei and his kids should forgive him immediately or not. It's gonna be different from each Todoroki, so stop for a second and ask yourself if in those situations, the victims should be pressured to do one thing or the other. If Fuyumi forgives Enji immediately but Touya never does, it is okay for both of them. Whatever makes them happy and helps them through their trauma, as long as it is not self-destructive or risks other people's lives.
I KNOW IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE FUNNY but Dabi saying that he should be dead —they all should be dead really— hurt a lot, but then I read Natsuo telling him “well that's gonna be a problem because you're gonna live bro” was so sibling behavior of them. Touya is suicidal and finds it easier for things to be over now, he hadn't planned for this to go this far, you know? And that's exactly why Natsuo asks what does he plan to do next.
I haven't read the translation yet, but if they really phrased it as "hellish life" (Natsuo says that's what awaits Dabi, after seeing the ice on his chest) is gonna be an immense irony but amazing writing. Dabi told Enji to come dance with him in hell, but isn't life hell on its own way sometimes? I love when a character that planned to die lives, because it defies the narrative and questions the character while giving room to so many opportunities.
SHOUTO FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGING HOW COMPLEX TOUYA'S ORIGIN IS. It's nothing you can solve with mere words, nothing you can solve with a conversation. This is a huge win in this manga, contrasting the shonen trope of things being solved through words or the speech of the protagonist.
People better give Rei all the recognition she deserves or I'm gonna start punching them.
Touya saying they all should be dead and that he hates them all and Enji asking for him to tell him how he feels— this is how things get solved. It's a callback not only to Enji, but to many other conflicts were pro-heroes and other adults should have listened to victims, villains or their own kids to understand what was wrong, but decided to tackle the issue without even caring to have a grasp on it. Right now, Enji wants to start from where Dabi is, not from where he wish he should be. He's not arguing against Touya's feelings or going against them or anything. He is willing to communicate and listen to him, he is being open and vulnerable and direct and that's exactly how it should be. Super funny coming from me, but this was an Enjj win.
BUT I'M IN SHAMBLES FOR TOGA. I AM KICKING SCREAMING SCRATCHING THE WALLS OF MY ROOOOOOM.
If there is a testament of how much they (the members of the League of Villains) care for each other, it's that Toga can't see Dabi's fire anymore and immediately wishes he found a way to smile, exactly like he said she should. She's having a whole breakdown over how much she knows she love Tomura and Dabi and why her quirk won't work from them, but even with tears in her eyes, she's wondering if Dabi is happy now, if he was able to reach his goal. Horikoshi please, you need to gives us all a panel of Touya and Toga smiling together after the battle, okay? They deserve it.
OCHAKO IS SO CLOSE TO HER RIGHT NOW as she's being held down by multiple Twice clones. I'm so excited to see the resolution of their fight!!! It feels perfect that Ochako gave that speech about wanting to see the people she love and people in general smile and now Toga is just thinking about that with Touya. Narratively speaking, I enjoy so much how these girls are connected to each other. Now that Shouto reached his brother and was able to stop him with help from his family, it's time for Toga and Ochako, then Deku and Tomura.
I'm satisfied and happy, being honest. There's still some road left ahead, but I'm liking what I'm seeing at the moment. This must be one of my favorites chapters so far!!!!

Wow alright this chapter goes hard and fast, starting off love to see kendo getting a chance to do something. Of course when someone tells you not to look at the massive murder heat dome you're gonna look at it.
Love that rei just took that tricycle atv robot continuing the robot abuse if the story. Fun easter egg with the robot dying in the heat with a thumbs up, I do love me some terminator 2. But goddamm I knew rei was being burned but not that much, plus the kids coming in its gonna be a whole family of scars.
Love that natsuos revelation is that he should have knocked some sense into touya and told him to stop it with all the grab assing horsing around in very typical brother fashion.
Damn but that endeavor vision of a possible what if with a grown touya in dabis jacket paints a pretty image, makes you wonder what the plan is since he's still planning to get him out of range. My guess would be he's gonna be intercepted by shouto so neither he nor dabi have to die and they can all be a big happy family, after touya is discharged and deemed not a threat any more

Amnesia!Dabi: Twice
Ok, so. This entered my head and will not leave, so. Tell me how likely this seems, I guess.
One of the things I genuinely love about canon MHA is Himiko and Twice’s relationship. How supportive they are of each other, and how they stick together. They are just … weirdly wholesome? Very big brother, little sister? In CC, they won’t have this relationship of course (and I mourn quietly), but seeing it potentially die in Amnesia!Dabi made me sad, so. Anyway.
The Touya Is Alive Thing is public. The Toga’s interview has gone live. U.A. is suing them in court. Magne took off. Things are going … poorly, for the League of Villains. Shig is doing REAL bad right now. Spinner and Kurogiri are doing their best to help him, but they know the only thing that will really help … well. It’s not exactly an OPTION right now (though it doesn’t stop Spinner from imagining shooting AfO in the head, or Kurogiri from wishing he would). And Twice. Twice is doing REAL BAD.
He’s conflicted. Uncertain. All the regular shit. But worse than that … So, Twice’s Quirk. That’s the big gun that the LoV has right now. Or it would be, if Jin could use it properly. And, like, none of the LoV are blaming him, they know this shit is hard for him. They’re cool helping him work his shit out.
AfO is not.
He might be in prison, but, well, we all know that isn’t actually that effective. He manages a contact. A quick one. It’s all it takes.
A week later, Himiko is walking back to the Todoroki house with Fuyumi. They were having a “girls day”, trying to distract from the legal shit show that Himiko is stuck in. They met up with some of Shoto’s classmates, and it wasn’t even as awkward as it could have been. Himiko is feeling … not great, but not bad. She’s optimistic. Maybe we’ll get through this-
There’s commotion. Noise. Natsuo sounds panicked, and his boyfriend doesn’t sound much better. The girls exchange glances, and hurry up to the house … and Himiko can’t breathe.
There’s so much blood.
She’s moving before she really thinks about it. Knife out, poking holes in a new shirt (which one, doesn’t matter), making a makeshift mask. She’s shaking, but her hands are steady as she puts it over Jin’s head. As always, it calms him. Let’s Yosuke and Natsuo get to work on the frankly staggering number of injuries he has (how did he get here? how did he even know where to go? how is he not dead??). Himiko can only sit there, holding his hand, while Fuyumi frantically calls Endeavour, emergency services, Dabi/Toya, SOMEONE. Then she realizes Jin is talking. Mumbling.
“-real, I’m the real one, real one, the real one, I’m real, I’m real-”
He’s scratching at his arms. Twitching. It’s takes Himiko a minute to realize what he’s trying - and failing - to do.
Twice can’t use his Quirk anymore.
It was stolen.
(In a hideout, Spinner stomps out of Jin’s room, angry and hurt. Left without even saying GOODBYE, even Magne told them to their FACES she was going.
Shig’s face crumples when he’s told. Compress tenses. Kurogiri is quiet.
He keeps silent, about The blank spot in his memory. About the fact he made a portal recently, but doesn’t remember how or where.
He can only hope he’s wrong.)
(A certain doctor wonders if their security really IS that bad, because this KEEPS HAPPENING-)
-
OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHHOHOHOHOOHHO
YES! YES!!!!!!!
Like on one hand I’m kinda sad that Chaos Children doesn’t have the ‘Himiko sees the LoV as family’ bit. On the other hand, bold of you to assume I won’t work her bonding with the LoV into the plot!
BUT ALSO OOF OUCH MY HEART

writing patterns tag game
Rules: list the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there's a pattern!
Okay @aimportantdragoncollector here's mine, from least recent to most.
10. Unable Are the Love to Die for Love is Immortality: Hisashi Shigaraki was 25 years old, and five minutes older than his twin sister Yone, a fact that he would tell anyone upon meeting them
9. A Different Kind of Training: Incident 1: Itadakimasu
8. Dynamic Dalmation: Fuyumi scrolled through the shelter information on her phone, her father at the wheel next to her while Shouto and Natsuo sat in the back.
7. Swan Sight: There were once two kingdoms, who were at war with each other for a very long time.
6. Tiny Tots: Knock-knock
5. The Fire Burning Within: “It is five o’clock on a Sunday. You better have a good reason for calling us in here,” a sleep deprived Uraraka grumbled.
4. Battle of the Godfathers: Lately, Niya had been feeling nauseous throughout most of the day, but she insisted she was fine.
3. Where the Resistance Gets Their Money: Yoichi was having the time of his life exploring the nearby woods.
2. Moondrop: Once upon a time, long, long, ago, the moon had fallen in love with the sun.
How to Prove Your Worth to Your Brother-In-Law: Yoichi stared at the pile of papers scattered around the kitchen table, which ranged from planners to bills, to the letters he was painstakingly handwriting for some reason.
I generally like to start with some backstory or a description, but sometimes I just put a line and then start explaining. I'm pretty sure that's the pattern anyway.
No pressure tagging, but @chaosverse-mainblog I think you'll like this.

I’ve seen KR scans and it seems like Dabi’s eyeballs are still intact.
However, the hatred and sheer rage in the visible eye is really something. I wonder how will the family resolve this? Dabi may not be able to do anything much anymore, but his heart is still burning with so much anger. I doubt that Endeavor’s super late apology would do the trick at this point…Shoto is also down for the count too.
I couldn’t help, but feel a sense of emptiness, yeah, the family is saved and Toya is disarmed, literally. His soul on the other hands is still very tormented.
I would be saddened if HK decides to end the plotline here, but it is still understandable, convincing someone to abandon their hatred is extremely hard to achieve. Shoto and family can’t put out Toya’s grudge completely this fast, it can take years to progress in the healing process.
I think your last paragraph is the answer. Any character change that will happen in this arc won't have the advantage to be followed through like those that started at the beginning of the manga.
Touya is tormented, but this is also finally his off-loading. It reminded me a lot of Bakugou yelling and raging through DvK2 - just letting out a bunch of unprocessed feelings in all their raw ugliness. But it was still a long road for him after that.
Touya was 13 when he "died", 16 when he woke up from the coma, he's 24 now. He hasn't been able to cry in a decade. He has been hiding his true self and feelings for years. There is a lot that's accumulated inside him: rage, jealousy, disappointment.
I think Shouto's flashback in this chapter about the importance of clashing is not a coincidence (look at all the scenes - him and Bakugou at the Remedial arc, him questioning Bakugou in the culture festival, Tsuyu after Kamino, Shouto-Inasa, Shouto yelling at Iida during Stain fight) - it's all about conflict as catalyst for positive change.
I feel like there is something incredibly powerful about being able to express that kind of negativity and have someone listen and accept and even acknowledge.
Shouto's step is less about making another big Glacial Aegir, but calling Touya "Touya-nii" and acknowledging his strength, but also at the same time tearing down Endeavor's BS caste system of Masterpiece vs Failure. Shouto is not anymore some perfect little doll of his father kept in a cage. He's part of this family, he's doing what he can (but can't do it all himself, just like Izuku can't either). But he's chosen to descend to hell of his own free will to be with them because that's who he wants to be. Part of this broken, messed-up family because it's theirs.
It's also very telling to me how Natsuo reacts to Touya's "die, die" rant simply by asking him what's next. Without anger, implying that they all share the hell to come. (And also remember Natsuo's own raw anger of "kuso aniki" - they are both venting here).
And this is what Endeavor is doing too, when he's telling Touya to go on, to let it all out and finally apologizing properly to everyone. I think it's great that Endeavor is not interacting with the family from a place of strength, but from a place of weakness. I would have hated if he could go through with his "murder-suicide" plan and hero his way out of this, looking selfless. No, it's much better this way with him looking weak and vulnerable. Because he put firepower on a pedestal and that became Touya's curse now too. They both need to learn from scratch what matters and what real strength looks like.
And I think it's supposed to feel empty. After being kept alive through sheer hate and grudge, after throwing a tantrum the size of a nuke, it would be weird if Touya could fill that void instantly.
Remember Shouto after Midoriya vs Todoroki? He wasn't happy. He wasn't healed. He felt confused. He felt lost. The rug was pulled from under his feat with no ground to stand on. It was nothing, but a fleeting moment to hold on to - how it felt for just one instant not to be defined by his hate for Endeavor. And it took him almost a year to fill that void with his new identity and purpose.
Remember Endeavor after he watched All Might shrink into a mere human in front of his eyes? How it spurted anger and then change?
The best redemption stories start with a character having all their fears come true and hitting rock bottom yet finding a strength they didn't know they possessed (like Bakugou) or getting everything they chased after and realizing that's not what they wanted (like Endeavor).
There is a void. But that void is a good thing. It is the place to develop the character, to fill their hearts with new things. They may be small things, even trivial. Like the first little flower coming out from the ground after a forest fire.
Touya had now that one powerful moment of what it feels like - his family seeing him, hearing him, accepting him. It's both what he wanted, but also the realization that it was so simple. That maybe it didn't have to happen this way. And it's not a resolution, but it's a start.
I doubt we will see the endpoint unless the epilogue makes a big jump, but we may see another step on the way and maybe a hopeful glimpse in the epilogue.
