a sight beyond death: timeline differences & other notes

so i wrote a fic. its partially alins fault. because the timeline diverges with changes i feel are relevant but didnt write in full bc the fic itself starts up after many of them, i decided to compile them here for perusal, alongside some other background headcanons alin and i decided upon regarding L, B and wammys house. probably a very long post, i will update later as well if more comes up or i forgot something 👍

jan 1 2004 (just over a month after light got his death note), sayu goes to deliver a change of clothes for her father and encounters misora naomi at the station. hearing her intent on meeting with the kira task force, sayu strikes a conversation because of her father, and the two of them wait together while sayu waits for her father to call her back after she messages him.

naomi is able to get in touch with L after speaking with soichiro via sayus phone and joins the task force; she informs L of her suspicions regarding kira being able to kill with methods besides 'heart attacks'

due to naomis information, suspicion on light increases

jan 8 surveillance begins on the kitamura and yagami families. during this week, sayu gets into an argument with her mother sachiko regarding her grades and when sachiko compares her to light (unfavorably), sayu storms off. while light is at cram school she goes into his room and triggers the diary trap, setting the house on fire. the investigation has hiccups here because of the fire but it doesnt actually matter in detail rn cuz i am not writing it all

at some point in january, B escapes his prison. because he needed so much medical attention, L arranged for him to be in a long term care facility as he recovered from skin grafts and physical therapy, because after losing B wouldnt leave anyway (he fully intended to resign himself to this until he saw the kira news). when he recovered from his final surgery and was being arranged transport to an actual prison, he escaped :) yay!!

roger alerts watari and L of this happening and L decides not to worry about it. naomi is like dude. i think we should worry. i decided he doesnt tell her about B escaping

the yagami family begin living in a hotel as their house undergoes reconstruction after the fire, though they contemplate moving to another local residential area. kiras murders slow marginally, a pace unnoticed by most, as light is unable to write as often and with as much as privacy in the hotel

when he makes it into to-oh in april his family decides to let him live on campus for a semester because the house isnt ready yet. L thinks this is awesome because he can just wire the dorms. light has to keep taking a potato chip and eating it 🙄

april 25h the phrase shinigami is used by the 2nd kira in the videotapes, as is a reference to "eyes". Ls visceral reaction is because of B, which he informs only naomi of in private he doesnt say anything actually because he doesnt feel like it

june 8th, a week into confinement, light gives up his ownership of the death note

june 9th, L wakes up to B atop him, having broken into his room. due to the fact misa & light have forfeited their death notes, he can see both their names and times of death when L involves him in the investigation, so there is nothing noticeably off about them

theres like a full week of everyone being super disturbed by L and B before the yotsuba group starts killing people as "kira" other additional notes/headcanons: i decided Ls real name is not L Lawliet because that sounds stupid as hell im sorry. but i also decided no matter what even if i decide on a name i like, i wont ever reveal it in the story. only B will ever know and any time it gets spoken or thought by him (or by shinigami) its going to be redacted Bs grandfather is actually japanese. he has no idea if his grandmother is because he never met her/she died before he was born; he met his grandfather several times. this is why he repeatedly uses japanese aliases and why naomi didnt go huh? whys some white guy got a japanese name? however, one of Bs parents is welsh and he probably grew up in wales. why...? its funny. B and L actually had a lot of impact on each other and they sort of cannibalized one anothers identity and mannerisms in their childhood even though L wasnt always at the orphanage. after A died they both subconsciously picked up some of his habits as well, as if to keep him "alive" in them both (and in the identity of L) so like, basically B used to sit like a frog and L started doing that because B does it; B chews his fingers because L does it; they both hold things the way they do because A used to do that; they both started preferring strawberries over their old favorites because strawberries were As favorites....so on. "L" is, in a way, already an amalgamation of B, A, and L; L himself had little sense of self and identity as he was molded by wammy into a "genius detective", and B and A, who were not only the only two people in his age range he ever socialized with but also two people being conditioned to become backups of him as a person....well uh there was a lot going on. basically. ❤ so tldr B and L are essentially amalgamations of each other. and of A. yay. unrelated to B, L and A but when were talking about all this alin and i realized that mello would have been 2 years old during the fall of yugoslavia and his childhood was probably insane even before watari scooped him up for his genius orphan exploitation program. just thought that was ummmm Interesting <3

even tho my hokuto no ken movie dvd i got says it has chinese and english subs when i tested it it wouldnt let me switch subs so like it only gave me chinese subs but im actually confident enough in my ability to understand japanese but more importantly having the basic plotpoints of hokuto no ken and the movie memorized so like i think i can watch it unsubbed and survived. well obv dont kno japanese have not practiced at all after taking that semester forever ago but like been watching lots of dbz n stuff and like w/ action shows they say so many of the same phrases that like i totally kno what will be happening and especially since this movie is such a crammed retelling like im gonna kno whats going on 99% of the time if not sentences then just the general idea. actually lol that reminded me on an old mega64 podcast where rocco said taht during high school he would watch dbz on a spanish channel cause they dubbed it earlier there and that he knew like a lil spanish from classes but only needed to kno like 5 phrases or so since like 90% was fighting lol and just them saying the same 5 things over and over again lol. anyways not gonna watch it rn cause its super late buuut have the dvd player hooked up underneat the colecovision and on the toy piano so i wanna watch my dvds i have laying round. have an itching for tati and need to watch crash soo badly and also other movies!

OKAY MOST OF THIS IS JUST MY INTERPRETATION DON’T TAKE THIS AS CANON!!! rantaros...like...really reserved and untrusting. this probably has a mixture of the fact he was in the past killing game and knows someone's the mastermind, and also because hes been in a lot of danger during his trips. because of this, he often makes cryptic comments, always looks sketchy, and appears to know more than everyone else.

therefore, its no wonder nobody makes an effort to get to know him, since HE for sure isnt. which is one of the reasons i enjoy amasai. it reminds me of celesgiri in a lot of ways, except...its amasai. even as friends, shuichi and rantaro had SO much potential with their dynamic..unfortunately, that was all overruled by saimatsu. 

i have nothing against saimatsu, its a nice ship, but its really sad honestly because the entire first chapter was spent cramming all this saimatsu in our faces so shuichi has a reason to take off his hat and it wont be a weird transition when hes protag- really, under any other circumstances it probably wouldnt have happened. a bit forced. 

before i discovered amasai, i always wrote non despair aus with shuichi, kaede, and rantaro as the main friend group. rantaros probably a better option for shuichi since he not only would also urge shuichis self confidence, but he doesnt do it in a pushy way. kaedes great and all but it's hard for her to know when to stop, relax. rantaros much more chill about this and wouldnt pressure shuichi as much. and when he reminds him to eat food and the like, but sounds generally caring rather than just... "eat rn cuz youll die otherwise" 

and the POTENTIAL. the literal mystery dude x detective. we couldnt have that in thh since ??? and detective were the same person, we couldnt have it in sdr2 xuz there was no detective. but in v3...yay! unfortunately they had literally no time together sobsob 

plus. shuichis also good for rantaro. 

i know ive been talking about how rantaro helps shuichi, and its obvious to see that rantaros supportive and the like, but shuichis also good for rantaro. like i previously mentioned, rantaros really closed off. hes nice but..reserved. same as celesgiri, with a detective there, rantaros mysteries can be unravelled without him having to actually say anything. 

also, rantaros usually depicted as the protective one shuichis obsessing over. but honestly i feel like rantaro also has some issues. he lost twelve whole girls for fucks sake. hes probably really self blaming. plus its really not healthy for him to hide all his feelings behind a calm smile, and shuichi could probably help drag those out.

and. think about this for a moment. if rantaro was the one who woke up in the lockers with shuichi..so much more interaction. if they had more chances to talk and trust each other ((since rantaro knows someone here's the mm, a detective is the best person to help his search))...and....EXCHANGED PLANS... v3 wouldnt have happened. kaede would never try her little stunt, tsumugi would never get a chance to take advantage of that stunt. if rantaro got the chance to trust shuichi and be like.. "hey ur a detective well i have some clues" and they used shuichis plan with the powder, they would've easily found out the mm...and stopped all of this... 

alright im not ranting about this just because im complete amasai TRASH, but also cuz its honestly really good for both parties involved. ive never seen an actual hater of the ship, and for good reason. the only reason why it isnt popular is because its a bit of a rarepair, not interpreted a lot ((trust me. I've already been through ALL the content at least five times)) and overshadowed by other ships. whether you prefer it as a platonic or romantic pairing, their personalities and interactions are very cool. most danganronpa fanfics ((that don't focus on rantaro)) i've seen often water him down to just the popular guy, and it really irritates me honestly when people make hin flirty- because his whole character is literally the opposite- and also cuz its funny reading about a guy like rantaro gettinf embarrassed at things.

room planning i wouldn't want my room to be an office space, actually. i would want my desk to be usable but realistically i never get any work done on my desk so thats a done deal. i would want my desktop there eventually, so i should just clear out any productivity related items. i definitely need to throw out some makeup and a fuckton of clothes. i want it to be easy when i get up and get ready. but i also want to look effortlessly cute all the time. there are a lot of clothes that i cant imagine making outfits with so those would unfortunately have to go. i could get rid of at least one bookcase, if not two. and they need to be accessible, not behind my desk. ideally my walls would be painted a gentle sunsety color. maybe a horizon. i think all the cat stuff should go in a different room as well. or maybe even in the closet, if i could somehow ensure cat litter wouldnt get everywhere lol i want my room to be easy to vacuum bc i have to do that often and it's not rn. i want there to be a bigger open space. i definitely need to throw out the piano and piano chair and just get a smaller (and in tune) keyboard if my mom's ok with it. rip the pianoforte though. :'( i want to put art up, but it would need to be framed so it's not ugly. i also wanna scrape all the gunk off of everywhere in general. i don't want anything on my desk except for what i'm immediately working on or reading, because it piles up and i don't look at it. i want a storage folder for important work or school related documents i can't lose instead of just cramming them in random places. i want my carpet cleaned bc theres lots of random gunk on the floor. i definitely want jean to clean up and throw away shit with me bc she's also sometimes a source of mess. i'd be down to use shelves as aesthetically pleasing places i can put my fun stuff like plushes. i want a rainbow filter thing for my own room. good for selfies. i want a place w good lighting bc there's nowhere to take selfies in my house except like squatting by my windows or in the bathroom. i need to get a new light for my mirror but this isn't a priority. maybe i'll even just replace my desk with a smaller one, so i'm not tempted to pile stuff on it. i think i'd want a dresser w open storage so i don't have to open and shut the drawers. i need to look through all my shoes. i want a bird house on the other side of my window for gongju. it's ok if squirrels jack everything. i want like a wall shelf thingfor gongju to replace the piano chair. a lot less obstructive for her and then she'll have a comfortable place to just lie around while being in our room. i want to clear all the walls, i don't even use the pinbiard on my wall.

oh boy, which to tell >:3c (not my worst but just the one i can remember rn)

ok so, i was at a summer school kind of thing when i was younger. and we did soccer (i used to do soccer for a long time) so i wore cleats and shin guards and everything. and after i would just keep my cleats and shin guards on instead of taking them off because i never learned to tie my shoes until second grade :/

anyways i was on the playground and there were those railings / fences things along the edge of the structure and everyone was putting their legs in and out. so of course i did too, but my knee got stuck in the playground and i couldnt get it out. all the staff came out to help but i refused to take off my cleats (which were part of the problem) because i wouldnt be able to tie them back together. so i sat out there with my leg stuck in this play structure for hours until they finally pried my leg out of the bars. 

i ended up having to take my shoes off to get out so i just crammed all the laces together and pretended like it was tied. my friend never lets me forget rip

got tons. i have a bearded dragon named butterscotch. two cats, pancake and tiger. my pup layla. right now we are down to 5 chickens: beatrice, screech, mabel, daisy, juniper.
