Summary: Reader is Zuko's sister. You and Sokka always argue and fight. You keep infuriating Sokka as you won't leave his head, something he can't stand. Certainly not from a fire nation girl. When one encounter leads to an almost kiss. It draws a line when some guy starts flirting with you, leading to Sokka to show you just how infuriating you are to him.
Tumblr media
Appa roared deep, flapping his tail up. Aang petted his furred friend as Momo sat on his shoulder. Katara was poking in the fire to keep it going. Sokka arrived with new wood. His gaze fell upon you from afar. Near the cliff were you practising. Performing graceful moves without actually bending. Your performances calm and at peace. Anything but what Sokka was used to seeing a fire bender do.
Mostly their sequences were brutal and hard. Their fire filled with anger. You seemed odd among them. Anger wasn’t what filled your bending. It was a combination of being soft and tough at the same time. Something your uncle Iroh taught you when you were younger.
Sokka threw the wood on the ground, startling Katara. – “Hey.” – she called out annoyed.  – “Sure let us prepare the fire while princess fire nation over there is just dancing.” – Sokka outed gesturing at you. Katara sighed loud. – “Can you only ever complain?”
Sokka grumpily sat down on a log. Glaring your way. Aang approached them holding a bag open. – “We’ll need to stock more food.” – he held the bag upside down. A fruit fell out as Momo immediately jumped for it. Sokka shooed Momo away, picking up the last fruit. – “And that isn’t for you!” – he called out to Momo who flew above his head. Katara got up holding her hand out to Aang. – “I’ll go see if a town is nearby.” – she suggested.
“No, no.” – Sokka answered getting up as well. – “Let fire girl over there do something.” – he pointed at you from afar. – “Her name is Y/n.” – Katara answered crossing her arms. Sokka came closer to her. – “and I don’t care.” – he outed with a sarcastic smile. Sokka whistled loud catching your attention.
You stopped your practise, making your way over. Sokka snatched the bag from Aang’s hand, tossing it at you. You caught it  as he was aiming for your face. – “We need supplies.” – he said bothered. – “Please.” – you responded wanting him to ask nicely.
Sokka puffed loud. – “I didn’t know you had manners.” – Sokka answered. – “Unlike you I wasn’t raised in an igloo.” – you responded loud. – “Yet I’m not the one banished.” – Sokka fired back. – “Sokka!” – Katara called out, shocked at his rudeness. As a response you threw the empty bag at Sokka. It bumped against his chest as he moved his head back to not get hit in the face.
“Apologize right now!” – Katara insisted with a sisterly scowl. Sokka looked back to you, seeing how his words made you feel. Somehow he felt a bit guilty for being so cruel. Yet he didn’t act upon it. He took the bag in his hand. – “I’ll just go by myself.”  - he spoke turning away. Momo flew on top of Sokka’s head making him stop with a deep sigh. – “We’ll all go.” – Aang spoke to maintain the peace.
The four of you entered the woods in search for food, hoping you’d come by a village soon. You were walking behind Aang and Katara when you noticed Sokka falling in step with you. – “No bending.” – he simply said to you. You mimicked his words like a child, teasing him. – “Oh real mature princess.” – he responded.
“I’m just lowering myself to your standards.” – you answered with a smile. Sokka stepped in front of you, making you stop all of the sudden. He was brazing, glaring down at you. Your words annoying him. Sokka was glaring at your eyes, his face inches away from yours. His gaze fell down to your lips. He caught himself stare at them, making him turn away.
You gasped breathlessly, slouching back as if you were about to pass out. Sokka caught up with his sister, wanting to be as far away from you as he could. Looking briefly over his shoulder to you, falling in line. Grunting soft, he hated how much you messed with his head. Your presence consuming his mind as if you never wanted to leave. No matter how many times he casted you out. It infuriated him.
You were from the fire nation. Zuko’s sister, the one chasing Aang. The one who caused his village pain. – “You know you can just be nice to her.” – Katara spoke looking briefly at her brother. Sokka sighed loud. – “She’s from the…” – he outed as Katara finished his words in a voice that mimicked his. – “fire nation.” – she then giggled at her own imitation of her brother.
“Not funny.” – Sokka said annoyed as it made Katara just giggle more. Sokka looked over his shoulder again, seeing you chat with Aang.
Katara nudged him hard in the side. Sokka tore his gaze away from you. Some twigs snapped underneath his shoes. – “Aang needs her.” – she told him. – “I know, I know.” – Sokka sighed out. – “Then…” – Katara began as Sokka shushed her. She glared at him a bit for cutting her off. – “Don’t shush me.” – she said annoyed, moving her hands to her hips. – “Stop talking.” – Sokka told her, his focus elsewhere.
Katara groaned loud as he covered up her mouth. It was the only thing he thought would shut her up. – “Why have we stopped?” – Aang asked confused. Sokka was looking at every direction, listening in to nature. His eyes widened when he saw a fireblast fly their way. It hit a tree trunk close to them. – “Fire nation!” – he yelled out. The four of you started to run as more fire benders came from out of the bushes. – “It’s an ambush.” – Katara outed, puffing loud. – “You think?” – Sokka responded to her sarcastically.
Aang swayed his stick across, sending an air blast at some fire benders.  Katara stopped a moment to bend some water out of a puddle nearby. Letting it whip against a fire bender. Sokka grunted as they couldn’t outrun them. They needed to stand and fight. He pulled out his weapon, standing ready.
A fire bender was coming your way as you deflected his fire blast by ducking down. You then kicked at him. He stumbled back making you punch his stomach a few times. Sokka ducked down a punching arm, punching the man in his stomach. He then pressed the back of his weapon on his back. The man dropped to his stomach with a loud oof. He saw fire blasts coming your way as you kept avoiding them with just manoeuvring.
“What are you doing?” – Sokka called out to you. You looked back at him confused. – “Bend!” – he outed, stating the obvious. You kicked a guy away from you. – “You told me not to bend!” – you shouted back at him. Sokka jumped back from a blast. – “Just do it!” – he insisted upon annoyed. Suddenly you smiled with a new set off attitude.
Performing a sequence you conjured fire, attacking your fellow fire nation soldiers. Aang jumped above your head, landing in front of you as he flashed a blast of air at them. You moved back assisting Katara. – “I got it.” – she breathed out. You nodded at her. Looking over your shoulder, you saw Sokka getting cornered.
You ran over to him just as a blast of fire was coming his way. Sokka’s eyes widened seeing the blast come his way from his side. You jumped in front of him, arms forwards, palms pressed together as you split the blast in two. The fire flared beside Sokka and you. Sokka blinked stunned at you. You then attacked with fire of your own. Sokka was staring at you, admiring you despite his infuriation with you.
He was so caught up with you, that he hardly saw the punching fist come his way. He jumped back, avoiding the hit just in time. He was about to knock the soldier on his head with his weapon as a blast of fire pushed him away. Sokka looked confused, till he turned his head. Seeing you in a position, one fist out, panting. You had once again protected him. Sokka smiled admiring at you till his expression turned to shock. You were hit by a blast, sending you rolling on the ground. – “Y/n!” – Sokka called out.
You came to a stop, panting loud. Forcing yourself to get back up. Just as you almost stood up straight, were you hit with another surprise blast. It was if the soldiers were turning their anger towards you. One of their own fighting against them. You got hit as the blast pushed you back.
You screamed when you felt a loss of ground under your feet. An in-sinking in the ground made you slide down the hill. Tumbling and rolling down, you met with the ground hard and fast. – “Y/n?” – Sokka called out concerned. He threw his boomerang at the soldier, hitting him in the head. His boomerang returned as he caught it. Running up to the way where he lost sight of you. – “Y/n?” – he panted out nearing where you last where.
Sokka felt the ground underneath his feet crumble away. A scream caught in his throat as he slid down, arms swaying around. On the ground, you groaned in pain. Slowly pulling yourself up by your elbows. Your eyes widened seeing Sokka slide down. At the bottom, he came to a sudden stop, his chest falling forwards. He fell forwards falling hard against your chest as your back smacked the ground again.
Sokka groaned soft when he set his hands beside you, trying to pull himself up. He lifted his head up, his gaze catching yours as he paused. Paused as his face was inches away from yours. Heart pounding loudly as you were captivated in his gaze. Sokka’s gaze went down to your lips  as it made you feel shy. He neared his head a bit as you sensed he had an urge to kiss you. Your gaze flashed up and down from his eyes to his lips and back. If Sokka was about to kiss you, you wouldn’t protest. Sokka felt himself fall deeper, drawing closer to you. What if he wanted to kiss you in this moment. Would it be that bad?
You were bringing your chin closer to him to decrease the distance. Sokka slowly closed his eyes, feeling his lips tingle with the urge. A gush of wind caught him off guard. His eyes flashed back open, suddenly aware of what he was doing. He rolled over, away from you just before Aang landed down. – “So here you are.” – Aang said. You were staring at the sky, panting loud. Feeling extremely hot that Sokka was this close to kissing you.
Katara had climbed down joining Aang. Sokka had gotten up, dusting some dirt off him. Aang decided to head back to Appa and search a town from above. All of you agreed, walking back to Appa. You climbed on Appa, sitting at the back. Avoiding eye contact with Sokka. Sokka was staring down at his own hands.
Katara looked from you to Sokka. – “Is something going on between the two of you?” – she asked. – “No.” – Sokka answered loud. You lowered your head on Appa’s saddle, watching the scenery you were leaving behind. Momo came landing on your head, laying himself down.
Appa roared loud as he descended. Aang had spotted a town. A small village at the edge of the earth kingdom. Appa landed as all of you climbed down. You held the empty bag following Aang into the village. There were many curious heads turning at your friends. They certainly stand out with their watertribe attire and air nomad clothing. You didn’t receive that much attention as you were earth kingdom clothing.
You had left your fire nation clothing long behind. The moment your father banished you after Zuko’s banishment, you gave them up. There was no hope in finding a new home when you wore enemy clothing. Zuko had been given an ultimatum to return. You never did. Not acceding his expectations and questioning the flaming fist of his way of ruling led to your banishment.
The youngest of your siblings, apart by just one year with your sister Azula. You saw more to fire bending then power and anger. Fire could be beautiful if one found a balance between them. Harmony. Your father found that a weakness. Soft. Not something he could have in his daughter.
You went over to a stall where they sold fruits. Sokka’s eyes fell upon a different stall, making his way over to it, without his friends knowing. You bargained with the owner for some of his best fruit. Katara wondered where her brother was, spotting him at a stall that sold herbs. She furrowed her brows, watching her brother buy a patch of leaves. He turned around holding a little patch as he suddenly noticed his sister watching.
Sokka cleared his throat from afar, moving the patch behind his back. It made Katara quirk her eyebrow up. He joined the others once more letting his sister know to stop staring to weirdly at him. – “Look Y/n a herb stall!” – Aang pointed out. You turned your head to look as well. – “You can make that delicious tea of yours again.” – Aang said pushing you towards it.
“Actually…” – Sokka started feeling the patch in his hand. No one heard him as Aang was too enthusiastic to show you the herbs. Aang pulled you to a stop after having pushed you all the way over. – “Anything you like?” – the owner asked as you looked at his products.
“Do you have any jasmine leaves?” – Aang asked for you. – “I certainly do boy.” – the owner answered. – “Actually I…” – Sokka began wanting to let you know he already bought the jasmine leaves. The owner presented Aang with a patch of jasmine leaves. Aang nudged you to accept them. – “Aang we really don’t need them.”  - you told him. – “Of course we do, you love jasmine tea.” – he encouraged you to take them.
“Your uncle taught you to make it.” – Aang added with a smile. – “Y/n I…” – Sokka spoke wanting to place a hand on your shoulder and reveal his patch to you. A new pair of hands grabbed the patch from the owner. – “I’ll pay for her.” – all of you turned your head to a boy. He smirked flashing a wink at you.
His wink baffled you as you weren’t used to that kind of attention. The boy tossed some coins in the owner’s hand. Sokka got shoved aside as the boy wanted to be closer to you. He held the patch up for you to accept. – “You really don’t have to…” – you said feeling a bit embarrassed someone paid for you.
“Nonsense.” – he grabbed your hand, facing your palm up, placing the patch in your hand. – “Anything should be paid for a pretty girl like you.” – he finished. Sokka puffed with a roll of his eyes. The boy slid his arm over your shoulder, moving you away from your friends. – “You look like a girl who likes tea.” – he spoke as Aang followed behind him. – “How does he know.” – he asked happily astonished that he had guessed. – “We literally stood by a herb cart.” – Sokka answered bothered.
The guy was leading you to a tea shop. His arm was still around you as Sokka found himself glaring at it. Katara and Aang clearly unbothered with Sokka’s concerns. – “Has anyone told you, your smile is like a blossom on a spring day?” – he said. It made you touch your lips shy. – “No.” – you answered. Sokka tensed his jaw. You were about to enter the tea shop when a pull on your wrist pulled you to a stop.
You slowly turned as Sokka had taken a hold of your wrist. Aang, Katara and the guy walked further in. – “Something wrong Sokka?” – you asked confused. – “Are you seriously following a guy like him? Just because he flashes a smile at you and gives you a compliment, you girls fall hard.”
You smiled teasingly. – “What’s so funny?” – Sokka expressed loud. – “Nothing.” – you answered with a shake of your head. – “You are cute when you are so worked up.” – you patted his cheek teasingly. The guy came standing behind you. – “Are you coming sugar?” – he asked placing a hand on your hip. Sokka saw it almost making him lose his mind. – “She’s not!” – Sokka stated clear, grabbing you by your wrist. – “Hey!” – the guy called out when Sokka dragged you away. – “Sokka… Sokka.” – you breathed out as he kept pulling you away.
He went into an alleyway, pushing you against the wall. Sokka groaned loud as you could only stare confused at him. He turned around, grabbing you by the waist as he pressed his lips on yours. Eyes wide with shock, you blinked startled at the touch of his lips on yours. He pulled away half angered at himself for kissing you.  – “Why are you so infuriating.” – he outed. Sokka noticed you were still holding his patch with herbs so he slapped them out of your hands.
“Hey!” – you called out as Sokka gave you his with some roughness. – “I bought these because I knew you liked them.” – he told you. – “I don’t know why I bought you them, because I shouldn’t. Certainly not for a fire nation girl!” – he went on. – “So why do I care for you. Why can’t I get you out of my head, and why did it bother me that, that guy was hitting on you!”
You smiled coming up to Sokka. – “Oh hush.” – you told him, grabbing him to kiss him. Sokka gladly accepted your kiss, holding you by your waist. – “You are cute when you get worked up over things.” – you told him, making him smile sheepishly. Sokka held you again, kissing you once more just because he could. Certainly now when he made peace with himself and simply let himself fall for you.

Zuko x mercenary!reader -part one
Do people still read Zuko x reader fics?
Mostly for my own amusement bc Zukos adorable- longer than my usual stuff! ♡︎
Warnings: none
————————————————————————
They had followed our little gang around the world, so it wasn’t hard to imagine they’d track Aang here, but they didn’t seem in any mood to strike.
I couldn’t help but feel defensive of the kingdom, even if the two were doing nothing but serving tea. I worked as a mercenary for whatever town seemed to need assistance. Despite not knowing any form of bending, I had connections, and that made me an asset.
Having worked around this place more times than I could count, I knew almost everyone. Most of everyone around town were good people, the type to invite you over for dinner just for giving them a hand in the fields.
Knowing someone like Zuko was around them made me uneasy, that was until Iroh approached me.
“Ah, a mercenary! What mercenary wouldn’t want to help a poor frail old man?” He whined dramatically, from behind me.
“Iroh” my hand tightened on my sword, I assumed there was an unspoken rule that neither group would bother eachother if they truly wanted to live in peace. Maybe I misread this dynamic?
“Good to see you too Y/N, you can losen your grip, im not here to fight you. I couldn’t care less about the Avatar, you know that”
I tilted my head in confusion, what else would he be here for? I couldn’t bring myself to believe he was now a hard working humble business man.
“Would you mind talking to me for just a minute, I’ll make it worth your while” he grinned, holding out a few gold coins he scrounged out of his pockets.
I caved from curiosity, following him as he walked me through a crowd, far away from his new little shop, leading me to a small alley.
“So..why did we have to go to an alleyway for this? Are you gonna mug me?”
“No such thing, I actually have a job for you”
I scoffed, the fuck made him think I’d want to take work from him? I turned on my heel, disappointed at the lack of information he gave me.
“Zuko’s lonely!”
I stopped in my tracks, turning back to Iroh, dumbfounded.
“Zuko’s lonely?”
“Painfully so, you know how hard it is to watch my nephew be such an introvert at his age?”
I rolled my eyes, “what does any of this have to do with me exactly?”
“Well, you could possibly help the poor boy out, couldn’t you?”
“Excuse me?”
“I’m asking you to ask him on a date”
“…”
“…”
Jesus fucking Christ he can’t be serious right now.
“You want me to ask the guy who’s tried to kill my friend more times than I can count on a date?”
“Precisely!”
“…Iroh, I’m not a prostitute, I’m not asking Zuko out for cash. He wouldn’t even agree to it either, he’d recognize me.”
The man sighed, pulling out a fabric bag filled to the brim with gold coins. God Zuko was a lost cause.
“Lay on the charm, and maybe he will!”
He dropped the bag in my hand, holy shit was it heavy..
“…fine”
I never thought I’d end up asking Zuko, the fire lords son out on a date, but here we are.
I sauntered into the tea shop, greeting locals as I made my way to where Zuko was pouring.
Carefully filling the cup, he didn’t notice as I leaned against the counter he was behind. I rested my chin in my hands, looking him up and down.
It has been quite a while since I saw him last, longer hair suited him.
When he finally noticed me, he took a double take, stumbling while trying to hold the cup steady.
“…Y/N..?” He asked almost timidly, as if he didn’t want to believe I was standing infront of him.
“Hey, you remember my name, aren’t you sweet?”
He went quiet, still staring at me as if he was seeing a ghost. He pushed past me, going to deliver tea to a table. What a good little worker.
He returned to where I was standing, starting to wash dishes, ignoring my presence.
“What’s your name?”
“..what?”
“Your name, you’re not still going by Zuko here are you?”
He flinched as I used his real name, his eyes flicking between mine and his dishes.
“..Lee. Why are you here?”
“Can’t I visit my favorite prince?”
He stiffened at the praise. “…are you planning on fighting me?”
“No, the opposite actually”
He furrowed his eyebrows in a surprisingly cute fashion.
“Going from Avatar hunter to waiter must be a real boring change of pace for you, huh?”
He didn’t answer, still washing dishes.
“How about you let me make it more interesting for you?”
“..what?”
“I’m asking you out Lee”
He didn’t say anything to that. He simply blinked comedically, his eyes wide.
I gave him time, I wasn’t going to rush him. Iroh did not have the same curtsy.
“Ah welcome to our Shop miss, what tea do you fancy?”
“..I’m not the biggest fan of tea, I’m here because I fancy something else”
Zukos face turned an impossible shade of red, I thought steam may come out of ears if I kept this up.
“Oh? And what are you referring to?” Iroh couldn’t keep the smile off his face.
“Your nephew of course”
“Oh! Well a night out couldn’t hurt, right Lee?”
He whipped his head back and forth between his uncle and I in disbelief.
“Uncle, you know who this is don’t you?!”
Iroh studied me up and down.
“A humble mercenary looking for a date?”
“You’re exactly right” I smiled knowingly at Iroh, despite him technically being my enemy this exchange was a little fun.
“I don’t see why not Lee! Aren’t they cute?” Iroh gestured to me as if this was completely normal.
“Yeah Lee, aren’t I cute?” *i lean over the counter, invading his personal space.
Poor thing was absolutely floored as he whipped his head between me and Iroh trying to figure out if he was the weird one for being suspicious.
“If this is some sort of ploy to-“ he glares me, but it’s hard to take him seriously with such a red face.
“-I’ll pay for dinner, alright? All you have to do is have fun and look pretty. How about I come back at 7?” I didn’t know I had this much game until now. Why wasn’t I using this power for good before?
“The Shop will be closed by then, no reason to decline” Iroh looks up at his flustered nephew. How long would it take for the poor boy to crack?
“..fine..if you’re not here by exactly seven, I’m not going”
What a brat.. this was going to be an interesting date.
“I’ll be on time, don’t worry your pretty little head. I have business to attend to, I’ll be seeing you Lee” I wink at him, amused at how..affection starved he seemed.
He spun back around, his back facing me, but I could see the blush on his face starting to reach his neck..
Iroh was going to owe me much more than a bag of coins for this.

Hello to the 2 Zukka fans who may actually see this, i bring you Free Thoughts of a 2 am snacker!
Zukka hockey player/figure skater au
Now, i know what you’re thinking: Lydia! Tupp! This has already been done before!
And you would be correct! However! My brain has tweaked it in a way i have personally yet to see (wink wink nudge nudge drop the fic links if you’ve read this before)
So! My thoughts on the subject:
Hockey Player Zuko and Figure Skater Sokka
Zuko, child figure skating prodigy who suffered a tragic accident, is hidden away for two years before he reemerges under his Uncle’s care as a fierce hockey competitor after everyone said he’d never skate again
Sokka, who’s sister Katara became a World Junior Champion at 16* in ice hockey and who Sokka feels he can never live up to, enjoys after-hours figure skating on the same ice he works to maintain. Sokka, who watches singles programs galore and learns his favorites and recreates them, posting them to youtube for his 6 followers (Hakoda, Bato, GranGran, some kid name Aang, and two other anonymous strangers). Sokka who has a natural grace to him despite the obvious lack of formal training, who skates like he’s got everything and nothing to lose, whose love for the art shows in every glide and every turn. Sokka who gets discovered one day by an old grumpy coach who offers to give him a few tips. Sokka who is a fast learner and spends ages 14 to 18 quickly climbing the local ranks.
Zuko, who, at 16 faces a second injury that takes him out of hockey forever. Zuko, who has just been officially disowned as his own sister takes to the spotlight. Zuko, angry at the world, lashing out at everyone around, but goes willingly with his uncle when Iroh suggests a change of scenery 6 months into his recovery. Zuko who is determined to skate again, if only for himself, if only to prove that yes, he is strong enough to come back again. Zuko who strikes a deal with local ice rink that if he sits and runs the front counter during the day while his uncle runs the popular new tea shop inside the rink, he can use the rink after hours once his injury is healed enough. Almost 17 year old Zuko who stays late to reorganize some papers behind the counter one night and sees Sokka step onto the ice and go through vigorous warm ups and exercises. Zuko, who drifts a little closer and watches as Sokka is told he can skate anything he wants for the first skate. Zuko, hearing the song from the last program he ever skated come on through the speakers and watching as Sokka skates through it easily, with a passion Zuko himself had never managed to feel. Zuko, who occasionally stays behind to secretly watch a pretty boy skate and never gets caught for 4 more months. Zuko, who is finally cleared by his physical therapist to get back on the ice but with orders to take it slow, gliding carefully out onto well-taken-care-of ice for the first time in almost a year in skates very different from his last pair, and it feels strangely like coming home.
Sokka who watches a stranger hesitantly enter the rink. He comes to the rink on his nights off when everything at home becomes too much. He loves his sister and his parents- because Bato never needed to marry his dad to be a second father to him- and he even loves his sweet crazy old GranGran, but sometimes it all gets to be too much. They know he’s seriously training in figure skating now but they’ve never come to any of his recitals**. Its not that they dont care, but theres always something else going on. “Oh, we cant, Katara has her out of state tournament that weekend” or “Oh no bud Im so sorry, Bato and I are going on a late anniversary trip that day” or even “I have too much homework, Sokka, I’ll come to the next one, promise!” The only one who never makes an excuse but he also never actually sees in the audience is GranGran (this’ll be important later on wink wink). So, when things get to be too much and Sokka gets tired of having to be the loudest person in the room just to simply be acknowledged, he comes to his safe place. The rink after hours. Sokka watches from the upper shadows as the stranger takes careful, measured, practiced glides. Like riding a bike for the first time in ages, they’re hesitant at first before they slowly gain traction. At first, he thinks the stranger is just going to glide from one end to the other all night but instead he watches as they slowly begin a few exercises. Very familiar exercises. (Do you see where im going with this?) And then, they turn around, and Sokka is suddenly breathless because before him is the most beautiful boy- the most beautiful human- he’s ever seen. And sure, maybe Sokka has always fallen too fast and too hard, and sure, Sokka has literally never talked to this boy in his entire life, but Sokka looks at him and sees that look on his face and knows. ‘He’s just like me.’
Zuko who keeps coming back and lingers before Sokka gets on the ice. Sokka who stays late to watch Zuko retrain himself. Piandao who is sick and tired of watching these two boys dance around each other when they could clearly be learning from one another because, though Zuko had not trained in figure skating in years, he had been a true prodigy and he picked it back up easier than he should have been able. Piandao who was Zuko’s first coach before his father transferred him to Zhao’s guidance. (Jeong Jeong, a retired pro hockey player who is tired of listening to his husband bitch all day anout oblivious idiots because they’re starting to remind him of himself and Piandao when they were young and headstrong.) Jeong Jeong who finally takes matters into his own hand and tells the boy who runs his front counter that Piandao would like for him to come to Sokka’s next practice and then tells Piandao to “Stop whining and do something now, I’ll see you at home” with a kiss on the cheek as the two boys shyly trade introductions.
Zuko who begins helping Sokka with his training even as he himself recovers and relearns. Sokka showing up on the nights Zuko skates alone with greasy takeout and the occasional baked good his GranGran made that day. Sokka and Zuko curling up on the couch in the back office watching old figure skating videos on an old laptop and Sokka finally realizing exactly who Zuko is as Zuko finally realizes Sokka is that one youtuber he watched for years when he was younger. Zuko laughing and telling him that the random subscriber Aang is actually a friend of his and the other anonymous subscriber was just Zuko’s second account after he lost the password to the first.
On one of their casual skate nights, once Zuko is back to full strength, Sokka suggests they learn a pairs skate tongether for fun. Ike a trust exercise!” He says as if he hasnt been dying to know what it would feel like to skate in tandem with Zuko since he first saw his face. Zuko agrees and he and Sokka find a program they both like. They decide who’s skating what and then begin to fumble through learning their individual parts. A week or two later, they try it together for the first time, no music, and its not half bad. They continue to learn it together and notice that the more they skate together, the better they get individually. Zuko’s refined control gives Sokka a more polished look without smothering his passion while Sokka’s passion and fluidity allows Zuko to loosen up and actually enjoy what he’s doing. (1 hour mark)
Eventually, they put it to music, and Piandao and Jeong Jeong emerge from the shadows at the end of the song. Piandao asks them if they want to learn their own pairs program to compete together this year. The two boys share a look and agree almost immediately. The next few months are spent learning the choreography. Sokka and Zuko both go through core strength training and lifting weights because Piandao is currently planning to have them both lift each other at some point in the program.
Time jumps forward to the competitions and Zuko and Sokka blow it out of the water. This time, Sokka spots his GranGran when Zuko is pointing out and waving to his Uncle Iroh near the top of the rink. She’s sitting with Zuko’s uncle and he’s elated to see her there and yet, disappointed that his family still hasn’t come to support him. Time jumps again. Sokka and Zuko spends hours training and then hours on their off days hanging around Zuko and Iroh’s house or even Iroh’s tea shop. They ofc have spent all of this time in continual pining.
But, time jump to when they’re both 18 and 19 and they’ve both just qualified to skate pairs at Junior Worlds for the second year and this year they’re sure to win. They’re in Zuko’s kitchen, baking, and as they’re waiting for the over timer to go off, a slow song comes on. Sokka, in contrast to his norm, is quiet and gentle in the way he offers Zuko his hand and they slow dance in the kitchen with flour in their hair. They’re a little giggly and high on adrenaline but neither are sure who leans in first, only that they are both very much on board with the whole kissing thing. Despite the years of tension, the kiss is tentative and sweet. They begin dating and it only makes their program better. The love they have for each other so clearly pours over into their skating.
This Junior Worlds is the first tike GranGran finally drags the rest of the family by the ear to come and watch Sokka compete and to Zuko’s surprise, he sees Aang and a few of his other friends in the audience. Sokka and Zuko win (to no ones surprise).
Insert sokka family angst and resolve here. Insert zuko family trauma etc here
Sokka and Zuko go om to do more pairs skating things and they live happily ever after etc ete
I ran out of steam there but its 3:10 in the morning and i started at 1:51. Hope you enjoyed, this has been 2 am thoughts with Lydia.
* i did minimal research here, be proud
** same thing but even less this fime

hi! do you have any good maiko childbirth recs?? I’m open to stuff on ao3 and here or fanfic.net!! i feel like I’ve read all that I could find :(
Hey there! You have come to the right place! Its weird I know, but I love Maiko childbirth/pregnancy fics despite not wanting kids myself hahaha. Below are some really good fics, I'm sorry if some of them are already ones you have read, but a good re-read is always fun too :) Illuminated is more of a pregnancy one, but it is really good and its written by my good friend, @flameohotfamily <3
A Decade in the Life of Mai and Zuko is a one shot series, but its 3rd chapter is a nice little one shot about Mai and Zuko having a child. The name isnt Izumi, but its still cute. Daddy's Little Girl is good too, but again, its one where the baby's name isnt Izumi. I think it was written pre LOK. A Matter of Perspective is really good, and has some Iroh peppered in there too :)
Little Sparkler is by @pidgeapodge and it is more on the relation between Azula and Izumi Here Comes the Sun is great because it is from Zuko's perspective and coming to terms with how shitty Ozai was. I Swear That I'll Be Around For You: the first chapter is Zuko and Mai reflecting on how they wont make the mistakes of their parents. The second chapter is about Aang and Katara regarding Bumi II which is still good. Needed: last but not least is post childbirth, but it is about Zuko and Iroh talking about fatherhood and how Iroh lost his son.
I just found another one tonight! If I find more, I’ll add here :)
Fall Maiko Week 2018: the first chapter is about Mai giving birth to Izumi :) I hope you enjoy the fics and hopefully there are some in here that you havent read yet :)

hellooooo, A, C and T for the ask game please :)
A: Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don’t have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
Oooh ok ok well, to start off with romantic:
Westallen, Snowest, Barrisco, Westhallen, Barriscowest, Snowstorm, Percabeth, Kataang, Maiko, Bumizumi, Shirbert, Samguel, Torisha, Narumitsu/Wrightworth, Franmaya, Klapollo, Junithena, Tedbecca, Roykeeley, Finnrey, Finnpoe, Reyrose, Jedistormpilot, ElizaDarcy (idk their ship name 😅), Kathony, Lukemara, Hanleia, PeterMJ/Spideychelle, Parksbornson
Keep in mind that these aren't all the ships I like, just the ones I love! Ex: Snowestallen is a cute ship, but it's a "like" ship, not a "love" ship. And these can always change tbh (they have, over the years), though usually this is what they are
Now for platonic (and I'm including brotps of my own making because I make the rules). Somewhat ranked but also not really:
Barry & Morgan (ofc), Jesse & Morgan, Lucy & Luke, Tina & Morgan, Lucy & Astra, Team Flash (Barry, Cisco, Caitlin, Iris, + Harry when he’s around), Barry & Cisco, Original Quartet (Luke, Leia, Han, Lucy), the Gaang (Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph, Zuko, Suki), Iroh & Zuko, Izumi & Zuko, Izumi & Mai & Zuko, Bumi & Aang & Katara, Caitlin & Morgan, Morgan & Cisco, Rey & Luke, Sam & Tory & Aisha, Sam & Robby, Daniel & Johnny (when they’re not being idiots), Amanda & Carmen, Anne & Diana, Anne & Josephine Barry, Peter & Ned & MJ, Phoenix & Maya, Apollo & Trucy, Athena & Apollo, Athena & Blackquill
There’s also Morgan & James, who are currently a ship but become platonic. Idk where to put that so I’m just making it its own category. And Morgan & Thawne are so interesting but in no way a brotp
This list isn’t exhaustive, but I got most of them, I think! It’s hard because I love so many more brotps than ships 😅
C: A ship you have never liked and probably never will
Gonna try censoring this one a little more than my previous “ships I don’t like” answer, so it hopefully doesn’t pop up in any tags…but if it does, I’ve heard putting a # in front of the search term can keep it out:
Sn0wb@rry. The origins of that ship just puts me off too much, I can’t ship it in any capacity (and tbh they both have better love interests, even if poor Caitlin doesn’t have a good love interest post-s1)
T: Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
Doesn’t everyone? 😂 to name a few:
—Sam, Aisha, Demetri, and Eli were all childhood friends (the “Nerd Quartet”)
—Barry loves comics because of his mom, and that’s part of his motivation to be a superhero (comics canon! Headcanon in DCTV/Arrowverse)
—Ned’s the first one to figure Peter out, when they do their special handshake
—When they were supposed to be asleep, Iris used to sneak into Barry’s room, and they turned his bed into a mini pillow-fort 😂
—Barry’s Flashpoint adventure ~did~ change Caitlin’s past and give her powers—I’ll die on this hill, it’s the only way things make some amount of sense (and it’s no more ridiculous than the OTHER Flashpoint changes)
—Thawne was actually lying in s4 when he said he “hated every minute of [being Harrison Wells]”. Because literally wtf was THAT, writers??
—Maiko had two weddings: one for their close friends, and one for the Fire Nation. They were the first of the Gaang to get married…though they didn’t have Izumi until after Kataang got married. They wanted most of the “so, when are you having kids?” bs to die down first
—Lando introduced Luke (and Lucy) to hot chocolate, and Luke and Lucy love it 💞 (Legends canon I believe…tho ofc not Lucy since she’s not canon. In proper canon tho, this is just a headcanon)
—Barry makes the best hot chocolate ever
—Iris can bake better than she cooks…tho she gets easily distracted, hence the burnt/lumpy pancakes sometimes 😅 still, I gotta believe someone brownie-obsessed can make good brownies
—Finn is a legend among his former stormtroopers…as an enemy to some, as an inspiration to others
That’s all I can think of off the top of my head, tho there might be more!
ask game!

2022 Writing Year in Review
thank you @flameohotwife and @chocomd for the tag! great way to start a new year of writing is to look back
1. Number of stories posted to Ao3: 15! most oneshots and drabbles, 1 that is a multichap still in the works
2. Word count this year: 75,791
3. Fandoms I wrote for: Avatar: The Last Airbender
4. Pairings: Aang/Katara
5. Stories with the most:
Kudos: i lost it all again (can you help me find it once more?), the second fic in my Katara-centric series
Bookmarks: dreamless dreams
Comment threads:  see the sky and sea (and remember me)
Word count: see the sky and sea (and remember me)
6. Work I’m most proud of (and why): there’s a lot, but i guess i will have to say dreamless dreams, my platonic zukaang fic, since i really don’t like Zuko that much lol. he’s definitely not my fav, esp because of fandom, so it was a surprise to write this, and i’ll admit i was a tad worried i would write him ooc because of my own bias. but surprisingly enough, i’ve been told the way i portrayed Zuko in this fic is very very in-character for him and serves as exploration that most fandom would avoid, and the platonic zukaang was also something i never thought i would write but seemed to execute well haha. overall, i guess i’m proud of this fic because it’s a concept that’s out of my comfort zone that i think i’ve executed pretty well, haha
7.   Work I’m least proud of (and why): protecting you, which is a prequel to  where we're meant to be. i had a kind of hard time writing this, and if i look back on it now, it just seems... cheesy, almost? idk it’s just Aang whump so maybe i just feel it’s a little senseless lol.
8.   Share or describe a favorite review you received: i think my favorite review this year was actually from @chocomd and pertained to dreamless dreams! choco managed to understand all the underlying parallels i wrote into the fic and gushed how much she loved the way i wrote the platonic zukaang 🥺 before her review, almost no one was kudos’ing the fic, so i was wracked with so much doubt that i wrote it well, and with her review, it really helped ease my worries of oocness for Zuko & Aang.
9.   A time when writing was really, really hard: while i was in school as a STEM major lol. that should be self-explanatory.
10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: i already mentioned Zuko, but there’s actually two more characters i was surprised to write. one of them was Iroh from my Iroh & Lu Ten fic leaves let go (to fall from the vine). i never ever ever thought i would ever write Iroh, and he kind of intimidated me because he’s such a wise, complex character--there was no fathomable way i could write him well, or so i thought. i seemed to manage okay for this fic tho haha
the other character is Hakoda from my Hakoda Adopts Aang fic these sleepless nights we spend (waiting to come home). also a surprise because in canon, we don’t really see much of him on-screen, not to mention there’s a lack of interaction between him and Aang. again, never really thought i would ever write him, but here we are.
11. A favorite excerpt of your writing:
i have quite a few (and i’ve used them for other asks), so i’ll choose something a little different this time!
this excerpt is the ending section of going back, moving forward:
When Gyatso releases him and Aang finds himself at the doorstep of shadows, he only glances back one final time to see Gyatso nodding with approval, pride shining in his gray eyes.
(i will always wait for you)
When he finds himself walking down the dark hallway, he hears his friends, his family, all calling his name, all pleading with him to come back, come back, and he picks up the pace, rushing towards them.
(i'm coming, i'm coming)
When he sees the differently colored threads (green red navy cerulean) weaving their way towards him as the world falls away into darkness and shadows, he reaches for them, knowing that they're reaching out for him.
(i'm coming back for you)
When he wakes up in his friends' embrace, he lets himself melt into their love and worry and berating because they care, they care, and he almost can't believe he ever doubted it was the right thing to do.
(i'm here)
And when he grows and makes mistakes and matures and builds his own family and learns to live and laugh and love again, Aang finally understands what Gyatso meant all those years ago.
And it feels like coming home.
12. How did you grow as a writer this year: i definitely stepped out of my comfort zone a bit and wrote for characters i never thought i would write for haha. i’m also improving on describing scenery, especially as needed for my multichap lol
13. How do you hope to grow next year: to keep improving on describing scenery. i’m improving right now, but i still have ways to go. also to keep writing characters i never thought i’d write, step out of my comfort zone even more.
14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc): @chocomd. we found out we have very similar tastes in the kind of stories we want to read & write, and so she’s been a huge encouragement, especially in a fandom where our specfic tastes aren’t exactly common. her comments especially on see the sky and sea (and remember me) and her eagerness to see its conclusion is really the only reason why i’m still writing this fic.
15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: not really? i mean i lost it all again (can you help me find it once more?) stems from my own feelings of assimilation and not knowing my own culture. other than that, there aren’t any i can think that are truly from my core self; every other fic is just my exploration of canon content or mirroring of things i never have personally experienced. all of my fics have some form of myself in them anyways tho, so
16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: don’t be afraid to experiment and break rules of syntax, so long as it makes sense for the themes of the fic. i find the fics i love reading/writing the most are the ones that experiment to reflect the themes of the fic, the state of the character’s mind, etc. (also you can use that as an excuse in case someone gets mad at you 😉)
17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year: definitely hoping to finish see the sky and sea (and remember me) this new year, but with the way the climax is playing out and the limited time i have, it could take a while lol. depending on if i get that done, i’m also looking into my 5+1 Aang fic about loneliness, a Katara MCD fic, a Sokka-centric fic that deals with masculinity, and a 5+1 Zuko-centric fic that deals with Zuko beginning to understand the effects of imperialism on the little people.
18. Tag some writers whose answers you’d like to read: @itsmoonpeaches @thinkingisadangerouspastime @justoceanmyth @shameaboutthedilettantism @kataangisforlovers and anyone else!

Since I know you’re finishing soon, just like with the end CXGF, you finished! Now what was your fav? Like fav episode or moment or character, or just not even your favorite. Just what are your thoughts on this epic epic show?
Thank you for the ask! And for encouraging me to finally watch this masterpiece <3
To be honest, it’s always difficult for me to explain why I like certain things, because in most cases I simply don’t have any reasons, I just like it subconsciously x) Anyway, I’ll try to share my general thoughts, plus a few of my favourite things, divided into categories (like a character, episode, season, etc) so as to keep it structured.
Here we go!
General thoughts: this is a fantastic show. I can clearly see why people praise it so much and note that many other TV shows should look up at it, especially in terms of storytelling, character development, and world building (I even saw how fandom creators take this show as an example when it comes to creating something themselves, so I, as a creative soul~, can say that I also took something from it).
I read a few reviews on this show and I noticed that many people pointed out that this show didn’t hook them then since the very beginning because it was a bit childish but assured that it did get better eventually. As for me, it really hooked me since the first episode, because it already seemed super dynamic and as I kept watching it, I was truly amazed by the variety of the adventures the main characters had and how many subjects this show brought up. One of the reasons I love animation is that it can balance out serious mature topics with childish lightness so as to keep it enjoyable for everyone and I think ATLA does it perfectly.
I think it really all I can say. This is a very well-written show, and I love how consistent it is in terms of storytelling. It rarely has pointless episodes and makes a fantastic job on its characters, all of whom have clear personalities and dynamic stories (arcs) on their own. It talks about mature important subjects, and I’m just weak for the pieces of media that create their own universes because I love digging into the lore (and it’s really possible to talk ATLA lore for hours).
Favourite character: as I already mentioned, Sokka! He’s amazing.
I don’t want to talk too much about him because I might get repetitive but to put it simply, I love how multilayered Sokka actually is. He’s a fun guy with a boomerang on the surface but if you look inside, you can see how smart, brave, protective, and caring he is. He’s a leader, a strategist, a warrior, and I suppose I simply have a thing for the characters like him x) (and you can’t imagine how much I feel him in those scenes when he rushes his friends to be focused on the mission, especially when Katara gets distracted by helping some random villagers and he says something like, “Katara! We have more important things to do!” and I just shout at the screen, “YES”).
My second fave is Iroh! He caught my eye since the episode one, because, I don’t know, he just seemed genuinely funny and enjoyable to me x) But as I kept watching the show, I started noticing how wise, caring, loving, and kind he is, and my love to him reached the top somewhere in season 2 when he and Zuko got much more sweet uncle/nephew moments. And can I just say that his reunion with Zuko legit made me shed a tear 😭
And my third fave, to make it Top-3, is Zuko! I think I was quite indifferent to him in season 1 but started seeing much more in him in season 2 when he was trying to find his true path and was rushing between searching for Aang and having a peaceful life. And I absolutely love him in season 3. The way he rehearsed his meeting with Aang (“Hi. My name is Zuko”) was adorable :’D
Favourite season: I don’t think I can explain why but for some reason season 2 was the most memorable to me. It has so many cool things, from the introduction of the new characters to absolutely fantastic Zuko’s arc. And for absolutely no reason I really can recall many episodes and their titles from this one without looking up, even though it’s been quite a while since I finished season 2 (and by saying it, I don’t mean season 1 and 3 weren’t memorable and I don’t like them; just season 2 brought me more emotions, I suppose).
Favourite episodes: I’ll list a few ones from each season because for now I’m not sure which episode is my ultimate fave.
Season 1 - The Storm, The Blue Spirit, The Great Divide.
Season 2 - Zuko Alone, The Swamp (I LOVE this one a lot!!), The Chase, The Crossroads of Destiny.
Season 3 - Sokka’s Master, The Puppetmaster, The Day of Black Sun (two parts), The Firebending Masters, The Boiling Rock.
Favourite ship: I… don’t have one? Even if we take canon ones into account, I don’t really feel anything towards them. Sokka/Yue certainly have a beautiful and tragic story, but I don’t think about them that often. Sokka/Suki are nice, too, but that’s all I can say. Zuko/Mai… I’m not sure how they even became a couple. Aang/Katara don’t really bring anything to me either.
I’m pretty sure that Zuko/Sokka is quite popular in the fandom but I just don’t see it, I’m sorry.
So yeah, I don’t have a fave ship, but if anyone has opinions to share with me, I’d love to hear them. I’m quite open-minded at this point.
Favourite moments: akjajdkf I don’t think I can recall many. I really need to watch this show at least one more time for that. Anyway, the ones that come to my mind are (random order):
Iroh and Zuko’s reunion, as I already mentioned. This scene made me cry. CRY. ME. I rarely cry while watching/reading anything, so it really speaks a lot (it reminds me that Esteban’s sacrifice in Coronation Day made me cry, too. I literally had to pause before continuing to watch because I couldn’t stop sobbing ajhsjdkf).
Sokka’s battle with Piandao in “Sokka’s Master”.
Literally all flashbacks scenes in “Zuko Alone.”
Ice dodging in “Bato of the Water Tribe.”
Hama's story and bloodbending in “The Puppetmaster” (that’s so creepy and fantastic).
Zuko and Aang perform the firebending technique to the dragons in “The Firebending Masters.”
Aaaand this is really all I can recall for now x) Those are not necessarily my most favourite moments, just the ones that were off the top of my head at the moment.
Well, I think that’s it! To conclude, I just want to say I really loved this show (and now I don’t feel awkward for never watching it anymore XD), these characters, this world, and basically everything. It was a super enjoyable watch and I’d love to rewatch it someday! (maybe even showing to my sister to watch it together)
Thank you for the ask again and sorry that it took me quite long to get to it!

I’m a Kataang shipper.
In the past, I used to tolerate Z*tara shippers when I first got into Avatar: the Last Airbender back in 2015, and I try my best to not get into any ship discourse in any fandom (because I got kicked out of three fandoms over it). I have the following policy: if they don’t bother me, I won’t bother them, and vice versa, if I don’t bother them, they won’t bother me.
Recently, however, it’s gotten to the point where I put Z*tara on my blacklist on Tumblr Savior, because the whole “Kataang-Z*tara War” has been going on for fourteen years, and I’m getting tired of it. What’s worse, many of those that ship Z*tara still refuse to accept Kataang as endgame, especially since Aang and Katara had kids (and grandkids) in the sequel series, The Legend of Korra. What was the Z*tara shippers’ intent? Trying to get Bryke to change their decision on the endgame pairing for Avatar: the Last Airbender? If that was the case, then it’s far too late.
I hope I don’t get kicked out of the fandom for saying this, but since it’s been bothering me for a long time, I’m here to prove why not only Z*tara is a bad pairing, but also why it wouldn’t work out in the long run.
As you very well know, in the first two season of the show, Zuko and Katara did nothing but fight, and they didn’t become friends until close to the end of the show. Personally, I can hardly consider any of their interactions as “ship fuel,” and yet, somehow, it became a more popular pairing than the canon Kataang pairing.
Zuko was an antagonist in Book One, as he was tracking down the Avatar in order to restore his honor and gain his father’s respect. In “The Waterbending Scroll” (Book 1, Chapter 9), Zuko used Katara’s necklace as was to bribe her in order to get her to betray Aang’s whereabouts, but she refused. He then employed a bounty hunter named June and her shirshu, a beast that can track a person by scent, and used said necklace to track, thus tracking Ang by proxy. Once Zuko found Aang, however, the necklace was reclaimed by Aang and returned to Katara.
In “The Crossroads of Destiny” (Book 2, Chapter 20), Zuko had his first chance of redemption when he was imprisoned in a crystal cave with Katara, who was angry at him, for she blamed him for starting the war between the Fire Nation and the rest of the Four Nations. After Zuko was sympathetic to Katara after hearing that the War took away her mother, Katara offered to use the spirit water to heal his scar, but then Aang and Iroh broke them out of the prison before any action could be taken. Zuko decided to side with his sister, much to Iroh’s and Katara’s disappointment, thus blowing his first chance at redemption. In the end, Katara used the spirit water that was given to her by Master Pakku to revive Aang, because he’s the Avatar (duh!), so he needed it the most. Zuko didn’t truly get redeemed until “The Day of Black Sun” (Book 3, Chapters 10 & 11) when he called out his father and told him that he was going to help the Avatar.
In “The Western Air Temple” (Book 3, Chapter 12), Aang, Sokka, Toph and especially Katara initially didn’t trust him when he wanted to join Team Avatar, as he let slip the fact he hired Combustion Man. At the end of the episode, after the others welcomed him on board after he helped defeat Combustion Man, Katara said the following, word for word, to Zuko after he joined Team Avatar:
“You might have everyone else here buying your...transformation, but you and I both know you’ve struggled with doing the right thing in the past. So let me tell you something, right now. You make one step backward, one slip-up, give me one reason to think you might hurt Aang, and you won’t have to worry about your destiny anymore. Because I’ll make sure your destiny ends...right then and there. Permanently.”
This scene in and of itself shows that Katara is not messing around, since she felt bitter towards him after his betrayal in “The Crossroads of Destiny.” Zuko and Katara didn’t truly become friends until the end of "The Southern Raiders” (Book 3, Chapter 16). In the episode, Zuko was wondering why she was bitter towards him after the other members of Team Avatar started to trust him. Katara was still bitter at him, because she was the first person to trust him at Ba Sing Se, and Zuko betrayed her trust by siding with Azula, and she was angry towards the Fire Nation in general, because a member of the Southern Raiders killed her and Sokka’s mother. At the end of that episode, Katara had finally forgiven him, thus making her his friend. One thing that gets me about those who ship them is that they see this gesture of friendship as “ship fuel,” especially since at the beginning of that episode didn’t trust Zuko until the end.
In conclusion, Kataang is a healthier relationship, as they had time to develop throughout the series, whereas Zuko and Katara didn’t have enough time to become a couple. In fact, in the comics (I only have “The Promise,” which I haven’t read all the way through yet), Katara and Aang’s relationship seems to be going strong. Besides, Zuko already had feelings for Mai at that time, anyway. At best, I view Zuko and Katara as nothing more than a sibling-type friendship, especially when you consider Zuko’s and Katara’s relationships with their actual siblings. Even if Zuko and Katara were to be a couple, it wouldn’t work out in the long run, because their personalities would clash. I wish that Z*tara shippers would just learn to accept the fact that Kataang is canon, stop attacking Bryke and Kataang shippers, and move on, because this war has been going on for fourteen years. In all fairness, Katara made the right choice by going with Aang.
TL;DR: Kataang is a better pairing than Z*tara, because Zuko and Katara did nothing but fight in the first two seasons, and they didn’t become friends until close to the end of the show.

netflix live action atla reaction
Ep 1
I don’t feel like the opening sequence actually added anything to the story. I mean, it gave the other nations some more agency I guess, but it doesn’t actually accomplish anything, at least not at first glance
Kyoshi voicing the opening is so random what the
I’ve heard criticism about the show starting with Aang and I agree, but I also think that the point of remakes is to give us different perspectives on the same story. I’m not a huge fan but I don’t hate it either
The bending looks so weird, not necessarily bad, just off
Idk how I feel about the southern water tribe seeming so much more built up, it kinda diminishes the first impression of what the war has done to them
Other people have already talked about them butchering Katara’s character so I’ll just say yeah and move on. Hopefully she’ll grow into herself and become more confident and proactive, but I guess we’ll see
Iroh don’t feel like Iroh tbh
Gran Gran reciting the og intro is painful, we already got this info three times in the past twenty minutes queen
Katara, kindly never liken your loss to Aang’s. You just met this kid who just found out everyone he’s ever known is dead, you don’t know him and you don’t know what he’s going through. You can empathize with his grief, but don’t act like it’s the same please
So far my expectation of “mid” has been holding true but the scenery is beautiful and the establishing shots are absolutely stunning
“Protect those who can’t protect themselves” ZANE NINJAGO?!????
Ayo Zuko kinda in character?!??? Who wudda thunk
“Let’s go save that weird kid” Yeah!!!! Sokka!!!!!!
Kick their ass Aang!!!!!
Ok but we’ve seen him fly without the glider several times now, why does he need it?
Ok, yeah, I’d kill for Sokka/Aang bromance
Ep 2
Iron’s saintly patience makes it’s debut lol
MOMO!!!! He’s so ugly I love him
If Gran Gran had the scroll the whole time, why did she only just now tell Katara about it? Her letter just says that it’s dangerous but the fire nation hasn’t come to their village in years
“But most importantly, you must have- sticky rice!” “Uncle, we don’t have time for this” oh, now we’re getting somewhere!!
This show is so stupid, I love it
Suki best character after four lines of dialogue real not clickbait????
Shirtless guy per episode: 2/2
Katara’s outfit is so pretty!!! My irl watched the show before me and said the costumes are good but feel like costumes and I second that but it’s fun seeing how they interpret the og outfits
Suki is playing with him and having too much fun with it, as am I
Aang being afraid of himself is such a good decision, really reminiscent of his reaction to burning Katara in original
Ewwww romance /hj
Obsessed with the discussion of what it’s like being a nonbender and the extra steps you have to take
Yeah ok, they’ve already done Suki better than the original
Kyoshi boutta throw hands with a twelve year old fr
Women win these
Dang, Sukka kinda cute
The cgi is decent but Momo not having a shadow is so distracting
Ep 3
That’s… that’s Azula…
A resistance??? Epic!! I’m sure everything will work out just fine for these kids
I’m so excited to see what they do with Azula
Don’t love Aang teaching Katara instead of the other way around
“What makes you think we’re outsiders?” *Katara and Sokka look pointedly at their bright blue clothes*
Teo my love!!!!!
The inventor’s actor looks so much like him, I didn’t realize he didn’t have a name in the original lol
Ewww stop hitting on her Jet istg
Ok stop, you’ve fundamentally misunderstood Jet as a character. He does not think he’s cool, he doesn’t give a shit. He thinks he’s right. He’s too angry to care about charming people. He’s a boy hardened by loss and war, he’s not a fuckboy for pete’s sake
I really like this take on Sokka: he’s smart as a whip but was born and raised to fight, he’s never had the opportunity to take himself or his ideas seriously
“We don’t need to be afraid of our pain, we just need to decide what we’re going to do with it” that’s the good stuff right there
However, it is not escaping my notice that Katara only improves when guys give her advice
The blasting jelly looks so stupid
Ep 4
Bumi time!!!! I really do wish Aang mentioned him earlier
It’s giving season 2 finale and I’m here for it
Ok I’m kinda into this, the way it’s folding aspects of different episodes of the original together is really making it a distinct story. Still against live action remakes on principle, but it’s at least doing something interesting.
Bumi my love!!!! He’s so silly and unhinged, I would die for him
Katara popping off!!!!!! Love her taking ownership of her power
I really like Bumi getting into how he’s seen all the devastation of the past century and that Aang doesn’t know what that’s like, his rage and pain is so important to me
Oma and Shu lesbians?!????? /vpos
I am so glad their getting into Iroh’s actions as a general, it hurts but it’s something I missed in the original
DAMN lil zuko deserves the world, man
THE ‘LEAVES FROM THE VINE’ MOTIF GOT TEARS IN MY EYES INSTANTLY, WHAT THE HELL???? Atla has me in a chokehold and always will tbh
I really like that we’re getting Sokka and Katara bonding in the cave of two lovers. Romance is OUT family is IN!!
Zuko is kinda crushing it
Platonic love for the win!!!!!
Katara is so quick with it!!!
Bumi getting the emotional confrontation he always deserved my beloved
Aang’s lil “is that really so bad?” I love him so much. The only way the world can heal is childlike hope and an unwillingness to sit back and accept tragedy
“Home? Everything I need is on this boat” AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Ep 5
Sokka is a mess this episode, good for him
Heibai my beloved
This whole episode is so fascinating, I’m just along for the ride lol
Ep 6
Roku is so silly goofy and for what
June girlbossin’
Ew why she up in Iroh’s face???
Blue Spirit time baby!!!!!!
Zuko and Aang actual conversation time?????
The boys are bonding!!!!
What the fuck?! They made his scar less severe???? Zuko has a vision impairment, how dare you take that away
Zuko’s crew being the division he refused to sacrifice is everything, actually
Bro I thought there were only six episodes, if it ended there I would’ve lost it
Ep 7
Zhao SUCKS, man gleefully tried to murder a child
I knew the wolf was Yue
Making Yue a spiritual leader is a move I respect, idk how I feel about her being a waterbender now
I don’t know how I feel about Yue’s characterization, her personality feels weirdly unnatural
No one told Kuruk that friendship is magic ig
Kill that man Katara, you can and you should
Rare Aang L
“So no plan?” “… I’m working on it, uncle” love them
Sokka popping off!!
“Go kick his ass” how did I know he was gonna say that lmao
Did her hair fall down lol, that was so forced
Ep 8
I saw it coming but I like the other waterbending women getting a role
General Katara my beloved, I don’t see people putting her in leadership positions post-war very often but she deserves it, she’s a great leader
Don’t think I like the moon and ocean spirits only visiting, feels like an odd and unnecessary change to make
THEY KILLED MOMO?!!??!!? WHAT THE FUCK?!????!??!!!!
Nvm he’s fine
Aang telling Katara to go easy on Zuko!!!!
We’re really ending the season without Aang waterbending a single time lol
Conclusion
It was enjoyable!! Not great but pretty good!!! It starts slow but once it gets going it does some really interesting stuff. I’m not a fan of all the changes they made, but a few of them are ones I’m very glad are there. The effects are decent but whoever is doing the fake beards needs to be fired. Definitely some choices made that I don’t like regarding some of the characters (specifically Katara and Iroh) but it overall is distinct enough from the original to be a worthwhile watch and also pretty fun

NATLA
my reactions to the netflix adaptation baby!
it's long-winded as hell!
and also just a stream of consciousness, BEWARE.
Ep1
good start.
beautiful bending. way to go animator team or cgi or like all those people that i don’t know their job title or descriptions but who have done a great job. (big step up from the adaptation we shan’t name!)
really being like, 'this aint your fun kids show' outta the gate with the burning people alive multiple times in a row, but sure.
katara shoulda been pissed and broke the glacier but fine i guess
v cool symbols within the arrow
weep for gyatso. beautiful representation. upsetting visuals.
‘relatively’ painless first ep changes, i enjoyed myself!
Ep2
sticky rice. perfect.
Kyoshi warrior make-up????? AHHHHHH IT IS BEAUTIFUL and PERFECT! Suki is gorg!
YES AIR SCOOTER
kayyyyy but we don't need to make suki weird and awkward around sokka just because he's 'no longer sexist' (or whatever we wanna call that choice) and they need some reason to interact. why not ‘hey we’re both hot, lets flirt’
the warriors training is beautiful
what if, we were training, and we looked in each others eyes, then we kissed *giggle giggle giggle*
Its giving, ‘I knew i shouldn't have asked kyoshi’ lololol
stealing roku’s thunder…….i’ll forgive it because Kyoshi absolutely KILLED! (and she’s a giant. we love)
kay this Zhao works, Ken is turning it out. His crazy energy is on display.
Ep3
no need to give us rebels within the fire nation. literally no point at this time in the story. we just entered this world, there can be one bad side without getting into the grey yet. leave it.
is that who? or is it? can it be?
jet intro woooooork
CABBAGES!
tao is SO SERIOUS. a bit much
the mechanist by our boy Danny pudi is decent
azula mai ty-lee. DOES NOT EXIST TO MINE EYES
holy fuck TOO MANY PLOTS and CHARACTERS like RELAX. (why are they all in this episode?)
jet doing jet tho. his hair is soooooooo fluffy haha
fuck it up zuko aang fight. boots the house down with that fight choreo! THE SCARVES?!Love!!!
Ep4
Bumi being angry at aang WHY? No fucking need for that.
unnecessarily convoluted bumi. it’s like they wanna change plot and character, just to change plot and character? it doesn’t work and it makes them look bad (the writers)
bumi plot didn’t need to go down like that
to take the cave of two lovers out of season two. why?
the minstrels are lovely, i like them, good job actors yay!
separating story lines though… makes us miss out on gems like ‘no one react, but i think that kid is the avatar’ BIG LOSS
pretty story of omashu animation, holding to the roots in the og episode. as they should
Give one of the earth benders who captures Iroh a full on new backstory why?
iroh backstory, well done. leaves from the vine music?????? tear jerk reaction is instant.
bumi bumi bumi smh…... see above.
dawwwwww our scarred boy. uncle is here for you.
Ep5
Should we name an episode spirited away? ……….    ._.
Why does aang automatically know the lost villagers are in the spirit world? He doesnt really know that shit yet so……
NO AZULA IN SEASON ONE. GTFO. Why give her a fucking monologue to her father advising him on the war without being asked and then he snaps at her for kissing ass!? And defends zuko? Mf hates zuko! And now azula has a story arc about being constantly compared to zuko? Thats fucking backwards BITCH. if this plot line sticks imma burst into flames and set the writers on fire with my burning body.
Also lay off on the serious serious tone dumb fucks.
kid who plays zuko gets it. whine whine whine.
Why bring sokka and katara to the spirit world? You split them up during other adventures but when he’s doing the things that are legitimate avatar duties, they come along…..
Arden Cho can do NO WRONG. My love.
THE KNOWLEDGE SPIRIT NOW!?! WTF are you doing!? Embarrassing.
TOO EARLY FOR AZULA! And mai and ty-lee are cardboard!?!?! WHY???
Paul as Iroh is correct. 100% correct. Kid who plays zuko (dallas?) has been v good.
Heibai looks slay.
VERY STUPID THAT YUE GOES TO THE SPIRIT WORLD AS A THREE TAILED FOX. OMG. (i spoiled my self for that kinda but also its obvious and bad)
Kay we're gonna skip bato of the water tribe I guess.
Adding conflict with Hakoda and sokka for what reason? honestly curious.
Doing katara’s story with her mom early is fine. its v heartbreaking and well done.
Why Koh now? Why add to that plot line? Changing the way Koh works with the fog?…..
koh design though? AMAZING. TERRIFYING.
Also instead of LIGHT filler episodes they go SAD filler……  -_-
ooop. gyatso! okay…. i guess. that’s alright.
Ep6
Not Iroh’s bun! how dare you archers?!
'he cares too much' okay caring about whether a soldier's life is lost is not too much.... but alright.
How many more times you think they could fit the phrase ‘saving the world’ into this adaptation?
Honest question. What was this latest attempt at an atla adaptation’s goal for the overarching message for this season based on their changes? like.... hmmmmm?
what is on the firebenders soldiers hands? anyone? i haven't looked close enough or paused it to see.
the blue spirit mask is perfect. if they got that wrong i would have thrown up
blue spirit escape on point!
lol zuko *slaps aangs hand away*
first fun goofy, non directly plot driving convo between zuko and aang for about two seconds this episode. about damn time.
lol every episode having a voice over, like why.
koh would not be giving people back though. facts.
good zuko backstory. hits the feels just right. curious, they have been leaving this arc as is more than all the other arcs…… is it per chance, perhaps, mayhaps because zuko’s character journey is one for the history books and is as close to perfection that any story teller can hope for? hm? maybe? YOU THINK?!
Ep7
team avatar should be sokka's line....
aang has yet to water bend..........
NOOOO NO NO NO NO NO so dirty they did Yue SO dirty.
enough Azula plot. just stop. it's embarrassing to attempt to change this. she hasn’t HIT as a character at all. Theres no punch. VERY embarrassing. and Mai and ty-lee are CARICATURES of themselves.
your 'the one’ what azula? that makes no sense.
Yue is a bender?.......
yue fox bullshit is stupid. sorry not sorry. not that she could go to the spirit world but that they teased her early in the first place. it’s not interesting or new just taking the whole swamp ep and revamping it for this season.
'wise to focus on your training during the journey'???? from what teacher was he gonna learn MF?! are you fucking dumb?
aang Keeps. On. Saying. 'i need help' but the fucking master water bender isn't like 'yo, lets get training right away!’ …..where am i!?
don't rewrite the koi fish. DO NOT REWRITE THE KOI FISH.
unforgiveable wig.
'boy of my dreams' bitch you had one dream. (yea you have a connection or whatever but ew. don’t say that)
WHY HASN’T AANG WATERBENDED YET!
take sokka's sexism out but AMP the northern water tribes sexism up to 1000% ??? WHY?
Bad bad bad bad bad. do not have aang tell katara not to fight. that is fucking stupid. SUCH WEIRD DECISIONS. GUYS. netflix writers. please. fucking RELENT! stop fucking with magic.
LOL Iroh and zuko are my biggest highlight. easily.
'my plan? my plan is to reclaim whats mine!’  ‘so no plan then?’ HA!
get azula and firelord plot OUT of here! FUCK OFF. i get it. i get they are good characters. great characters! and you wanna write them. but for the love of all story telling, you are going to burn yourselves out of plot too soon and then just start dishing out trash as if its a meal. i won’t eat your trash. I’m telling you now.
Daniel dae kim is good shit. (still wish he wasn't in the season but he's got the energy. and i love him)
YES Katara's hair during the Pakku fight. that's on point.
LET. KATARA. BE. ANGRY.
Good little scene about family at the end there. very cute scene and dialogue.
final ep!
do not name it legends. just. yuck.
to bring the blimp in during the war of the northern water tribe? kayyyyy. i'll allow it.
pakku gave crumbs to the women......
cuuuute the young water benders reporting to Katara and calling her master. i like that a lot.
I'm sorry ICE MOON??? (is this a real thing that i don’t know about or did they make it up? AITA)
one night in the physical world? noooooooooooooo. nope thats actually incorrect. your welcome for the correction. (odd detail to change in the first place. maybe someone has a better reason why they would do that? no?)
why the fuck would you hurt momo?
amazing round doors. love. love. love the sets.
beautiful oasis. crushed that.
BEAUTIFUL scene design, costume design, make-up and hair artists, and overall art department! Fucking Killed It! They're the real heroes!
zuko and iroh having the most word for word lines as any other characters, can't mess with fucking iconic bitches!
VERY excellent colour effects when the moon spirit dies.
im fine with Hahn not being a dick. dats cool.
silly to say that aang 'can't come back' from merging with the ocean spirit. was that a threat in our OG? No.
The ocean spirit looks good. that was fucking tough to do im sure.
no need to make it look like the firebenders can face the OCEAN SPIRIT. it's an easy battle for him not the puny humans.
good final war. they did it quite well. lovely atmosphere and intensity. the good stuff.
omg. you killed the teen and Hahn?! whu wha?
yes, sorry… WHY on earth did Aang not bend a single GD drop of water?! why in gods name in vain?! who, who fucking decided that? WHO?!
LOL little Aang actor needing a tear stick (he’s using)
'northern water tribe was never the target' how many times can you fucking say that. no one is THAT infinitely clever. you're not pulling the wool over their eyes. one fight happened in one location and one in another, no one can ever be everywhere at once so…….. enough with the smug.
why have azula take omashu now? because they are giving azula plot early for no reason and because they are gonna fuck with ba sing se? literally fuck off.
STOP stealing shit from other episodes, the calendar is in the library. season two. same with the knowledge spirit. if you didn’t know.
okay done! (overall, a lot of good work went into this by people who i’m sure cared a lot. but no one should be surprised when everyone gives their harshest critique. source material with a steadfast fandom my loves. you had it coming <3)

Tags: Team Avatar, The Gaang, tiny zuko is in TERRIBLE PAIN, acting as a one man representative of the endangered species act, what’s a little rebellion between friends?, iroh just wants to protect his kid okay, there are wild sky bison and they are PRECIOUS, zuko will just straight up try to murder anybody who tries to mess with them, rebellion kickstarted by genocidal horror, rejection of papa-ganda, Ozai is a terrible father, honestly possibly the WORST father, Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, things are similar but also very different, War Crimes, hand waving canon, zuko is tiny and full of SADNESS, and so much self loathing, what is self esteem?, we don’t know, uncle thought he’d have longer to work before we got to full treason but here we are, casually beautiful zuko, oops it’s definitely child abuse, zuko is Not Fucking Around, appa is consistently dirty and zuko is salty as hell about it, HOW COULD YOU LET HIM GET LIKE THIS???a rage-filled manifesto as written by zuko, real talk tho appa is like the dirty harriet of sky bison, the crew is ride or die, abide by the rules of hospitality or perish, oops the author can’t help adding fiber arts to everything, zuko is bigger and SO IS HIS PAIN, so is his voice, uncle takes looking after his kid SUPER SERIOUSLY, childhood nightmare fuel, zuko can never remember that his alias is li, and consequently never answers to it, its a beautiful day on the jasmine dragon and you are a horrible son, uncle just wants his precious child to MAKE SOME GODDAMN FRIENDS, hand waving canon because fuck it, zuko has no chill, and is fully prepared to throw hands, baby zuko is full of angst, and very loud noise, mentions of abuse by authority figures, like this fucking kid has literally had his education sabotaged, and he doesn’t realize that that shit is Not Acceptable, zuko doesn’t realize that uncle has handpicked his crew for sass and loyalty, he’ll understand one day but that day is not today, inescapable fiber arts, zuko stress felts EVERYTHING, And Worries, second thoughts on treason but no regrets, zuko’s crew has Feelings, their commander is a casually endearing little monster and they will fight you over him, zuko is everyone who’s ever had to be polite to dickheads in a service job, he doesn’t get paid enough to put up with this bullshit, zhao is a fuckhead, showing love through endless complaining, not much happens but it’s still important, local uncle surprised to find kid needs more therapy than expected, Zuko is trying his best, his best is a little special, bison lite, sorry y’all, Discussions of Past Abuse, zuko is trying really really hard to be good at existence, he’s just not sure it’s working, reasons to not do crime: zuko will definitely steal your ostrich horse, Zuko is doing his best, coincidentally min is also doing his best, they’re handling it very differently, zukoichi the traveling masseuse, even lost I’ll throw hands, this is a fuckboy psa, as written by zuko, song gives Zuko the business, not the sexy business, the ‘hey you’re being pretty judgey and should probably stop that’ business, Canon has been taken out back and shot, the ba sing shitshow, like seriously this shit is a mess, and Zuko is a mess, be gay do crimes, but only if your names are toph and zuko, we loot because we love, if you didn’t wanna be robbed you shouldn’t have been a dick, nothing like vibing instantly with a child-sized lie detector, thank agni for toph, roof crawling for dummies, field trip to the sewer!, just a little casual attempted fratricide between friends, zuko’s sudden realization that he is a massive tea snob, how the fuck did this happen?, aang and his clue-by-four, Zuko’s no good very bad field trip to the fire nation, Ozai’s A+ Parenting, we stan one (1) uncle, Zuko may not know what’s happening but he’s definitely gonna go murder his dad, hallucinations are gr8or they would be if Zuko was actually hallucinating, the entire shits, how that is the eclipse, Zuko is having a Really Bad Day, the crew of the jasmine dragon is ride or die, in which zuko hurts everyone’s feelings just by being himself, the comfort that comes after the hurt, soft death by sky bison, descriptions of trauma, zuko’s crew is ride or die, feelings? in MY fanfic?, this is soft garbage, rip to the western air temple but I’m different, tags are hard today okay?, Unintentional Self Harm
Started out as a “What would happen if Zuko happened to rediscover sky bison while searching for the Avatar?” and turned into something more than that.
This is a series of one-shots. Please subscribe to the series for updates! <3
To Take Care
Zuko finds them at the Western Air Temple, the first that they visit after his banishment. He doesn’t mean to, and he sure as hell doesn’t go looking for them, but he finds them anyway. He bolts out of the temple, past his uncle, past their camp, and runs until he reaches a forested meadow, where he drops to his knees and throws up everything he’d eaten that day.
Or, alternately:
Zuko discovers the truth about what happened to the Air Nomads, and also rediscovers an endangered species.
To Take Pride
It’s a beautiful day on the Jasmine Dragon, the sun is shining, and Zuko has a Bad Feeling about it.
Or,
Zuko’s casual treason is interrupted by the Avatar, who is a child and a Pain In The Ass.
To Take A Break
Zuko’s fire is broken: is it the treason or is it the anxiety? Uncle takes steps to rectify this.
Or,
The Knitterlude nobody asked for
To Take Heed
[“Snap your fingers at me one more time, and I’m taking them off,” Zuko snarls at him after being snapped at once too often. Zhao rubs a hand over his sideburns and eyes him.
“Your uncle hasn’t taught you manners yet?”
“Sorry,” he replies, not sorry at all, “Snap your fingers at me one more time and I’m taking them off, Admiral.” He sees Uncle’s warning stare and shuffles a pace backwards. He hates Zhao and Zhao hates him, and they both hate the stupid game they have to play of feigned politeness when really, they each want the other to drop dead where they stand.]
Or,
Zuko is tired of Zhao’s nonsense, an important talk about surrender is a long time coming, and the Siege of the North is an absolute mess.
To Take Advantage
[Zuko doesn’t tell Uncle goodbye.
He doesn’t think that he would try and stop him, but Zuko thinks that if he has to talk about it, he’ll manage to talk himself out of it. Better to go now before he can change his mind.
Zuko packs light: a change of clothes, some nonperishables, and a few knives go into a wax-lined satchel. He’s about to leave the room when he stops to eye the swords mounted on his wall, and, well.
It’s not like he can go around firebending all over the place, he reasons, and straps them to his back.]
Or,
Zuko’s super fun, solo adventure in the Earth Kingdom.
To Take Cover
[“So,” she says, “The question is: what do we need from each other?”
“I need to warn the Avatar. Someone’s coming for him and he needs to get out of this city.”
“Yeah, that’s not going to happen,” Toph replies with the frustration of somebody who’s tried really spirits-damned hard, “Not til he finds Appa.”
“Then I have to find the bison, and then get the Aang out of here. He’s not...he’s not prepared,” And Zuko can’t hold back the note of tightly controlled hysteria from his voice, “She’s going to come for him and he’s going to underestimate her, and she’s going to let him.”]
Or,
In which Zuko goes to a family reunion, commits some casual felonies, and drinks some really bad tea, not necessarily in that order.
To Take Heart
[Iroh looks awful.
He’s definitely been crying and his face looks like it’s never known how to smile, and his whole posture is slumped over like he’s suddenly aged several decades. His eyes (gold, just like Zuko’s) are sharp, though, and filled with something hard and furious.
“How could you have left him behind?” He drags out, voice rough and heavy and mad.]
Or,
What happens afterwards.
To Take Comfort
[Zuko is rocking.
That’s the first sensation he feels upon awakening. It’s a familiar feeling, as is the texture of the knit blanket he’s curled up in, as is the quiet but constant hum of machinery, deep in the belly of the Jasmine Dragon.
...wait.
Zuko bolts upright and flails, once, and falls out of bed with a hard clatter. It’s his bed that he’s been sleeping in for years, and definitely not the cell that he’s been rotting in for the last...he doesn’t know how long. He doesn’t know how he got here. He doesn’t remember.]
Or,
Zuko is not okay. But he can get better.

I’ve done some thinking about the southern raiders episode and I realize that Aang is ultimately in the right.
Katara chose neither revenge nor forgiveness but that choice can only work for so long.
It’s not just Yon Rah who’s done wrong, it’s the entire Fire nation military, each soldier has done worse than the other. Zuko was given the most difficult task he could’ve imagined, he is to redeem his warmongering country, his family name and make peace with the other nations he went to war against.
One of the main themes about ATLA is redemption. Some of the writers wanted Azula to have a redemption arc with Zuko as her Iroh, her upcoming solo comic having that chance. While I am always down for that along with Azulaang endgame, I say that she’s done a little bit worse than Yon Rah. By the time of season 2 finale, Aang and Katara were practically family. Watching Azula zap Aang in front of her clearly devastated her and she most likely had a flashback of watching her mother die. The fact Aang was the world’s only hope for ending the war and the only who can possibly match Ozai only added insult to the injury. Azula’s devilish smirk doesn’t help either. She was the one who suggested that Ozai commit the same level genocide as Sozin on the earth kingdom, an act Sokka considered pure evil. She tried zapping her in agni kai, only for Zuko to jump in front of her and she acted vicious and maniacal to both of them. albeit also slower and sloppier.
Iroh has done even worse than Azula.
To see Katara willing to forgive them both would make her choice to hold a grudge against Yon Rah for all time seem utterly pointless and tiring. I’m not saying she should search for him again and say she’ll forgive him. I’ll let circumstance determine their reunion.
Forgiveness isn’t something that should be scoffed at. While, on hindsight, its one of the actions that is considered to be almost impossible to do, regardless of the circumstances. Forgiveness is one of the greatest and humblest actions to commit due to the fact it removes transgressions and guilt from individuals and remedies the venomous state of rage and hatred within oneself or others. Another important factor is that forgiveness can aid individuals to grow and escalate into happiness, as well as helping the person move forward without any anger, especially without the need of seeking vengeance. In fact, it can also heal both the person's mental and physical health.
We can’t deny that Katara and Zuko acted disrespectful to Aang and looked down upon what he’s ever known. Sokka was more respectful and even agreed with Aang but Katara had the audacity to accuse him for not loving their mother.
Where Aang falls short, however, is the fact that Sozin, the man who singlehandedly slaughtered most of Aang’s people, is already long dead, and the sandbenders only kidnapped Appa, they didn’t kill him. He had no real reason to feel what Katara felt. There’s also the fact that Katara is the one who’s indirectly blocking his final chakra, she’s the reason why he can’t control the avatar state, and he’s not used to seeing Katara’s angrier side and probably wanted Katara to forgive for his sake but not her own and Katara knew it.
No one can change the past. The way I see it, if wrong-doers are no longer a threat but are still alive than all we should do is pray for them, hope that they can do better, be better. If we treat them like animals they’ll gladly be animals, we treat them with respect, we’ll get respect back.

Life hack is getting a juniper tree and naming him Iroh so when you get stressed you can just look at the tree and breathe
This is actually a great idea! I’m naming all my plants after avatar characters from now on
