I talk a lot in my fics about how much Joel loves Sarah, but something I can’t stop thinking about is how much Sarah loves Joel. I mean, that girl’s best friend is her daddy. When she first learnt to walk; toddling between her Uncle Tommy and Joel’s outstretched hands, the grin on his face and tears in his eyes all she needed as encouragement. Her first day at school, rushing home excitedly to tell her dad that she’d already told all her new friends that he’s a contractor and he’s the coolest. When they’re hiking; and he listens quietly and nods when needed, as she babbles about the latest drama between the characters on her favourite show and her thoughts on the new Destiny’s Child album. When Sarah finds Joel’s face in the crowd when she graduates; fighting back a sob because she knows she’s made her daddy proud after all he sacrificed for her to get here. Sarah naming her baby son Joel, but the first thing he does when he sees her is kiss her forehead and ask how she’s doing. On her wedding day; in a quiet moment just the two of them before he walks her down the aisle, Sarah squeezing Joel’s hand so hard it could break because that’s her biggest supporter, her greatest friend.
