Day 18: Saddle
Trembling from the cold and the chilly metal pressing into her back, Harry gripped the black horn of the saddle, refusing to look behind her. Black metal arms reached around her and gripped the stallion’s reins, the horse shifting as it prepared to move on command.
“What now?” Harry asked in despair.
“I’ll take you back to your fucking lovely farm,” the knight mocked, voice somehow cultured even through the swear, “And get on with my mission. Which way?”

i’d just like to remind everyone that the original bee and puppycat series on youtube is STILL canon like. everything happened in that still counts. (also i sound very pissy in this, especially the tags, but please know that it’s meant to be a lighthearted reminder)
lazy in space canonically picks up after the youtube series. think of the first couple of netflix episodes as a summary for people who have literally never heard of the show before. yes, it has its faults (i’ve seen people calling it “too boring”, weird pacing, etc etc whatever) but think of it as a weird recap. it’s there for the sake of getting us comfortable to the new style and adding more exposition/character background. again, it has its faults with that but i’m not here to discuss that. the point is that the first couple netflix episodes are basically for people who have literally never heard of bee and puppycat before and maybe saw an ad or two, or opened netflix and saw this new charming show or whatever, and are seeing it for the first time. it’s not expected of them to immediately google the title and watch the original. yes, we lost some iconic lines and scenes in the recap, but those are still canon, they’re still up and we can watch them; and again it was for the sake of the recap and added exposition. like it’s because of the remade episodes that we know more about bee’s dad. that we know more about bee’s past and puppycat’s connection to that. we’ve gotten more hints and background details that add to the story, characters, and the future of the show (the three separate music boxes, the symbols on the screens of puppycat’s ship, how deckard and cass see bee [“weird old lady girl”], literally more info on cardamon besides “he’s a child landlord and is sad and stressed”, etc etc etc)
like i can get the parts that are frustrating to long time fans, i literally have the original memorized so uh. i get it, but still. it’s more than just “we retconned things LOL!” because i don’t really think it was retconning. original plots were a little simplified but they added more to what we already knew. whatever, i’m off topic. the point is: yes, it’s sad that netflix doesn’t have those iconic lines but those are still canon. the original is still canon. lazy in space canonically takes place after the original series. take that as you will.

I’ve been thinking a lot about what a Hazel and Jason friendship would look like.
Hazel tentatively reaching out after finally understanding that Jason isn’t everything she built him up to be in her head, influenced both by Nico and by what she actually observed of Jason herself
Jason assumes she just wants tips on leadership or maybe how to fight better, so he obliged by offering to train with her
Hazel expects Jason to go easy on her like Percy and Annabeth and Piper do, but instead she gets taken down within a few minutes and has Jason ruthlessly pointing out what things she could improve on.
(Cue: Hazel finally having an opponent who doesn’t underestimate her. Hazel who finally feels like she has somebody she can spar against who will help and not just let her win because she’s young and small. Hazel who finally gets why Nico spends so much time talking about how kind and helpful Jason is, even if what she’s seeing isn’t necessarily kind.)
Jason starts hanging out with Hazel outside of sparring but in other groups, like with Piper, or Nico. He learns that she loves dancing and horses and likes to test the hardness of a stone against her fingernails, likes to collect shiny non-precious things just like Nico does, likes to swear loudly whenever possible as if she’s doing it to purposely piss people off.
Hazel asks Jason if he wants to go hang out one day after the Argo quest is over, maybe go to some museum in NYC that she’s heard Percy talk about, or find metaphysical shops to walk through (I HC that Hazel really loves modern mortal interpretations of magic and that she’s fascinated by the ways mortals accidentally connect to the gods etc.) and Jason assumes she means with someone else and agrees, only to find out they’re going alone.
Jason panicking for a moment about potential misinterpretations, once he realizes, and stammering out some garbled thing about how he really likes her but not like that because ofc all he’s known so far is that being alone with a girl = someone will assume romantic intent. Hazel openly laughs in his face and rather boldly states that she KNOWS Jason is in love with her brother.
Hazel, eventually, being the first person Jason feels safe coming out to. Jason, in return, being the first person Hazel feels safe to talk about being asexual with. The two of them discussing their feelings more and more often while exploring new places together, like Hazel talking about how she did so much researching into queer history and labels when she first found out Nico is gay, Jason telling her that he still doesn’t feel like Thalia is his sister as if he might not be the same Jason Grace she remembers, the two of them coming to terms with being on the aromantic spectrum together.
Jason talking Hazel out of joining the Hunters when she’s having a very very bad day. Hazel stopping Jason from disappearing back out into the mortal world to finish school without first giving his other friends a chance to have input.
(Hazel and Jason inadvertently saving each other’s lives by tweaking fate, thus making their friendship literally woven into their lives forever indisputably. Hades/Pluto patting Jason on the back and telling him thank you with no context or clarification the next time they meet. Hera/Juno, tight lipped and silent, offering Hazel some kind of gift or blessing the next time she returns to New Rome. Hazel and Jason laughing it off when they tell each other because wow, their godly parents are weird as hell.)

i’m not really personally opposed to spin-offs/revivals/sequels for previously established ip, especially if the revivals sounds promising (avatar/korra and phineas & ferb). however, i can’t really get down with it if they’re done in conjunction with absolutely poorly executed works & relying entirely on name recognition (velma) and/or at the expense of cutting other critically acclaimed works short (dead end) even after being ordered for more seasons (inside job) or at worst, removing works entirely for seemingly no reason (ok ko, infinity train, westworld, etc) except for short term profit.
as a consumer that really wants to see good shows & movies succeed (particularly in animation), it really dampens my trust in services to make content and actually stick to it when it seems that they’re also too scared to stray away from their golden tiddies (stranger things & game of thrones) to try things without just blowing money on their “throw shit at the walls and wait for the consumer to pick out the corn gold” strategy that they’ve (very specifically netflix) tried for years.
at the very least, pay out the cast/crew for the rest of their contracts that they were supposed to work for similar to the before times.

I mean this in the most genuine way possible, but you do not understand the point of people saying shifting for minors as an adult is weird. I also don’t think you understand how ages work even across different realities.
(I would like to note that from here on out, when I say “you” I am not referring to you specifically. I am using the general form of the word. Just talking in the second person.)
Regardless of how old you are there your consciousness is still an adult with an adult mindset and experiences. Yes, you can script yourself to be younger but at the end of the day your adult mind is attracted to a minor. (IMO it’s different if it’s live action and the actor was an adult at the time of filming)
As for the ages thing, if you are 16 here and shift to somewhere where you are also 16, you’re still just 16. The ages don’t combine because you did not live out an extra so many years you just shifted to a reality where your 16 years you’ve already lived are different.
Obviously no one can stop you, and no ones gonna know you even did it unless you tell them. But I hope this helps you understand where people come from when they say it’s weird to shift for minors as an adult. /gen
girly omg i can’t i’m not even gonna argue with you. have ur own opinion, don’t try to change mine.
