"I'm not gay," Billy shouts, face scrunched up in anger. "I don't know why you would think that."

Jim sets his beer down and raises his hands. "I just thought, you know, because you hang out a lot with Steve and..."

"Steve's a friend," Billy says. "I'm not a queer, Jim."

For a second Jim is close to buy the whole act. Maybe he is wrong. Maybe the sleepovers and Steve hanging out at their place every second day are only symptoms of a really good friendship. Guys can do that. Sure.

"I'm not," Billy repeats and the desperation in his eyes shines too bright not to see. "You don't have to worry."

Jim decides that this is not a conversation for a beer. More for a bourbon or a whole distillery. That's not what he wanted to hear. He wanted this to go the exact opposite way, to show Billy he doesn't need to worry.

"I'm not worried," he says. "If you're…"

"We're not…whatever you think," Billy answers, crossing his arms.

El peeks out of her door. She is always silently retreating when Jim and Billy have a disagreement or sometimes a shouting match.

"Friends don't lie," she says.

"I'm …" Billy begins, but then stops. He turns to El. "Steve.. and I…"

Jim downs his beer.

"You're great for each other," El simply says and closes the door.

"What the fuck." Billy blinks as if he tries to make sense of what just happened.

"She's usually right." Jim shrugs, internally cheering that for once he's not the one that gets called out by a psychic teenager. "Is your boyfriend coming over tonight?"

Billy sighs defeated. "Yes, he is."

"Good," Jim says. "For what it's worth, I think you're great for each other too."

Billy's lips twist into a tiny smile.

"Thanks," he mumbles. He snorts. "He's too good for me."

Jim disagrees, but he feels the same way about Joyce.

Reader is Mike Barnes' daughter. She's sweet as can be, total angel by some grace of God, unlike he was as a teenager in every possible way. She's his little angel.

And then meets Eli Moskowitz and Mike almost shits a brick because "no good guy goes by Hawk."

He finds out Eli was in Cobra Kai? Done for. He's pulling his daughter away while she's just smiling all dreamy at Eli, who promises to call her and Mike is firmly telling him it won't happen.

I just love these dynamics. And this one differs from LaRusso!Reader and Lawrence!Reader because in those cases, Daniel and Johnny at least know their daughters can defend herself. Meanwhile, this is Mike's pure little angel. He is the one that has to protect her.

It used to be called Starzplay or something, I only know because it's where I get my period drama fix from, I have it as like an add-on channel to Amazon prime, so I think they keep all of their stuff to themselves now rather than lending it out to the bigger ones 🥲 that's how it is in the UK anyway.
