several folks in the tags of my queer!aziraphale post have pointed out that in that scene, grindr was mentioned in the same breath with twitter, giving that line the context of aziraphale being in general very technologically inept. and like, yeah, that is totally true - aziraphale is a (proud) luddite.

but. i don't know. i think there's still something to be said for the fact that this person even mentioned grindr to him in the first place; the point of the sentiment ('i barely use my phone') would've held up just fine with just mentioning twitter. like. it's grindr??? mentioning it is a pretty overt way to out yourself as a member of the community, especially to a total stranger. (this may, of course, also just be my own self-preservation speaking - but i imagine even the proudest and most comfortable lgbtqia+ folks living in the safest and friendliest places still likely read the room before each time they come out, you know?)

and it could certainly be argued that maybe that says more about that person and their level of comfort with their own identity than it does about aziraphale, but... my thought process is, something about aziraphale's presence and manner told this person it was okay to drop this signal about themselves. like, aziraphale may not have known what it was, to be able to recognize the reference? but that person talking to him obviously did and i feel like that's what's meaningful here too.

it really is a lovely, genius little interaction because it both establishes aziraphale as happily living in his own rather vintage iteration of the community (which doesn't touch technology or hookup culture because he has no need or personal preference for either) AND shows him to be recognizably part of the queer community even to modern folks (read as queer by peers in a way that makes them want to connect with him over it).

When Rebecca wakes up on Renfield's sofa, her vision is of course upside down so I had to rotate and crop this- again this is all on my phone so I can only do so much proper editing- but yeah, just. Look how BRIGHT his space is. Every window open, every lamp on. And from this angle you can see how the orange paint doesn't cover the wall perfectly and even got on the ceiling a little bit. I just really want to hug the set designers, man. This is HIS space and unlike Dracula he is BRIGHT and LIGHT and IMPERFECT and JOYFUL. And in nearly every shot there is at least one potted plant!! Life! Greenery!!!

In a *slightly* wider shot, when Dracula attacks him, you can even see a tiny bit of sky blue in the kitchen side, there- in the calendar and in the ceiling light. At work we have those sky blue covers for the ceiling lights- it's for calming purposes. Meant to diffuse some of the harshness of sterile light and also evoke a sunny day because we don't have windows. Renfield has windows, of course, but also employs a blue cover because he fucking loves the open sky. The freedom it represents. And Dracula's presence is so abundantly the antithesis of who Renfield actually is. Hell, the makeup people made Nicolas Cage look completely grey for this scene, and dressed in black, he is not just devoid of colour, but he's black-and-white, like the old Dracula footage from when they met! He doesn't belong in this space and that is hammered hard with the colours.

And not fucking paint analysis but when he goes to get the narcissist book off one of his bedside tables you can see this glittery thing which I have realised is one of those cold-or-warm eye mask thingies. Bro really embracing self-care!!! You love to see it!!!

Reasons I hated the ending;

Inconsistent ooc writing. I don't know who the f was on my screen but that wasn't the Sam or Dean we've grown with for fifteen years.

Plot holes; the vampire mimes??? Where did they come from?? Because John thought Vampires were extinct until Dead Man's Blood and then he's you know dead so when did he have this supposed hunt with these pathetic excuses for a typical monster of the week villain let alone the last ever one?

Jenny. She wasn't even named in her first episode. Not once in fifteen years did one viewer go "I wonder what happened to her". Nostalgia? Most people didn't recognize her. She's only notable for being part of the first wlw and same-sex kiss on the show which was nonconsensual because the other girl forced herself on Jenny and only did it for the amusement of the men watching. There's also interesting points regarding to the show's vilification of queer people in the early seasons as majority of the first queer characters were what the show deemed monsters and were portrayed as predatory or destructive (they literally had Lily accidentally kill her girlfriend by touching her) and if they were "human" they were used as the punchline until Charlie when we actually got good rep and she was eventually butchered. Most queer characters ended up dead, or at least dead from some time. Only four queer characters are even hinted to be alive at the end (we don't know nothing about Charlie 2.0's fate), Kaia and Claire who's reunion and overall ending is left open to interpretation (hinted they're alive as Donna texted Sam which hints the wayward sisters are ok), Max who as far as we are aware is still condemned to go to Hell when he dies and Chuck one of if not the only canon bisexual males in the show was vilified to such a significant degree it doesn't matter that he's still alive. To have Jenny be the character they bring back while ignoring the show's integral queer characters like Charlie or Crowley or Claire or Cas etc is something else when the nonconsensual kiss was what turned her into a vampire.

Of the three female characters we see in the finale none have any connections to the viewers. Jenny the only character we've seen before is killed immediately. Blurry wife literally only exists to provide the womb for Sam to have a son to name after Dean so it doesn't look like he kidnapped a random kid, she's not deemed important enough to be even seen properly. "Sam could've ended up with anymore it's open to interpretation" bullshit because that's clearly a white woman which erases so many interpretations and it is so clearly a cop out. The third is a woman who literally gets silenced at the start of the episode, she gets her tongue cut out. The most we get is a text from Donna and a line about Mary.

Cas' ending. You pulled Chekhov's gun out. The gun had to go off but instead of acknowledging his confession, they refused to allow Dean to voice his feelings, refused to even give Cas a concrete ending. We don't know for an absolute fact if he's in heaven, all we're told is Cas helped. His death is literally bury your gays, an example of out of the closet and into the fire. He deserved better as a main character of twelve years.

Dean's death is problematic as fuck. His death is implied to be a suicide. It's said to be a good thing, him dying, him dying that way. This still fucks me up. He deserved to live. He deserved so much, I see him having some sort of roadhouse like Ellen taking care of wayward children and hunters alike, and having some sort of auto shop like Bobby did. I see him aged and happy. I see Cas beside him as he should be.

Sam's ending is bullshit. It erases fifteen years of character development, of relationships and it makes it all pointless. Sam is forced to lead the life he would've lived had Dean not showed up at his dorm in the pilot. What was the point of any of it? Was Dean just a fifteen year interruption of his brother's real life? His character arc was leading towards a completely different route and they did a full 180 and regressed his character so much. Sam should've become the next Bobby, teaching and helping a new generation of hunters and he should've gotten to keep/use his powers. He should've gotten to pass on Rowena's knowledge to a new generation of witches too and I'll die on both those hills.

EILEEN LEAHY DESERVED FUCKING BETTER. First you kill her by hellhounds. You kill a deaf woman with something she needs to be able to hear in order to have a chance at surviving. Second you bring her back, develop her and Sam's relationship and then you kill her again, don't give Sam a chance to even react to it and then leave her fate unknown and then throw in blurry wife to add insult to injury.

The pacing was so off. Like carry on wayward son plays back to back twice in a weird montage??

The party city wig. It's genuinely laughable. Like that's what the cw went broke over lmfao.

It's hilariously bad for your average monster of the week episode. As a final ever episode, it's like spitting and peeing into the fans drink and forcing them to drink it.

It wasn't for the fans. I know some fans liked it, I disagree with their opinions but respect them BUT it's clear that the episode was the way it was for people who ditched the show earlier on in it's run could tune in and not feel like they missed anything, which for a show with 15 seasons should never have been the case. It was a kick in the face for those who stuck it out from beginning to end

Amara's ending doesn't sit right with me. Like she's just absorbed into Jack? Jack at three is God? Amara should've been God and Jack should've gotten to be a kid on Earth.

Rusty. Nail. Andrew Dabb why did you hate Dean Winchester and Jensen Ackles?

What about Cas' deal with Ruby? What about Rowena and the demons in Hell? What happened to Adam? Everyone Chuck snapped allegedly got brought back (no confirmation on Eileen, Charlie 2.0 or Stevie) but Michael got vaporized in Adam's body so what happened to Adam next? Forgotten again ffs. The vamp mimes are their own plot hole but how did they and Jenny team up? Like what connection did they even have? I could go on forever on forgotten plotlines and blatant plot holes.

From where they are now, they can both see Christopher and Carrie through the glass doors that lead out to the patio.

They’re sitting side by side, Christopher’s crutches placed delicately next to him, and Carrie has her arm around Christopher’s shoulders. She’s pointing to something in the backyard as she murmurs quietly in Christopher’s ear, and Buck follows her finger to the large beech tree planted in the middle of the backyard, surrounded by a beautiful rock garden with pieces of sea glass and marbles that glint in the sunlight.

Buck swallows hard, fighting down his own grief, as he pushes himself out of the chair and makes his way, quietly, to the open door, trying to hear what they’re saying.

“ – And Dad got us to plant that tree in memory of Momma so we’d always have something big that we could hug,” Carrie says, her voice quiet but insistent. “Sometimes I like to sit in front of it and tell her about school or dance lessons and it makes me feel better cause Dad says she can always hear me.”

Buck watches as Christopher’s shoulders shake and its with a jolt that he realises the boy is crying. He’s about to move to comfort him when Carrie rubs his arm and rests her head on his shoulder, her blonde curls cascading down his back. Christopher leans his head against hers and sniffs loudly.

“I just wanna hear her voice again. I miss her voice, and her laugh.”

There’s a creak in the floorboards and Buck looks up to see Eddie standing next to him, eyes shining with tears. Lily’s standing between them, looking a little confused, but when she sees Chirstopher’s back heave as he sobs, she scampers out and plops herself down next to him, wrapping her arms around his middle and squeezing him tight.

“Dad says sometimes that when the wind whistles through the leaves, it’s Momma talking to us. Maybe your Dad can plant you a tree at your house. A pine tree, cause your Momma liked Christmas so much” Carrie suggests and Lily nods emphatically on Christopher’s other side.

“Get a tree that you can climb in, Chris!” she suggests excitedly. “Then you can pretend that you’re in your Momma’s arms again!”

Eddie makes a wounded noise next to Buck and grips Buck’s forearm hard. Buck’s got a lump in his throat the size of Texas right now and can’t do much more than pull Eddie close, wrapping him up in his arms and holding him while he shakes.

He doesn’t care that his shirt is getting wet from Eddie’s tears. He just holds him until Eddie breaks away and looks back out at the three kids on the patio, leaning together with their arms tangled up in one another.

“Jesus Christ, Buck, your kids know how to hurt a man don’t they” Eddie croaks as he wipes his face.

Buck laughs, a choked and strained noise. “Yeah well, they’re good girls. They want to make their friends feel better.” He turns to Eddie, locking eyes with him, and places a hand on his shoulder. “Stay as long as you need, okay? Days, weeks, months, I don’t care. We’re here for you.”

Eddie swallows hard and nods, a fresh wave of tears cascading down his cheeks. “Thanks man,” he finally croaks. “You have no idea –“

“ – I do.”
