trektober day 8: nightmares
Neera's face twisted with scorn, with fear, into a little boy screaming as he was dragged from his home-
A gang of rough-looking men watched from the shadows, faces dark with suspicion, augment augment augment-
Her mother was screaming, she choked on smoke, red light flared around her and the house groaned ominously, seconds from collapsing into flames-
"Una." Una wake up, we have to run-! "Una." A hand landed on her shoulder, squeezed gently. "You're safe. Wake up."
Her father held her tightly by the shoulders and looked her straight in the eyes. Never tell them who you are.
"Una." Una opened her eyes with a shuddering gasp. She blinked in the darkness and flinched away from the warm presence at her side. "Computer, lights to 20 percent."
She was in bed. She was on the Enterprise. She wasn't in a cell, and nothing was burning.
"Chris." Her voice was thick and garbled with tears. "I'm sorry, I woke you-"
Chris didn't let her finish. He drew her into his arms and held her until her tears dried up.
She was on the Enterprise. She was with Chris.
Malevolent eyes pressed down on her from the darkness, just out of sight. Her heart beat wildly and Chris held her tighter, molding himself to her.
Augment. Augment. Augment.
"Una, you're safe." Chris kissed her temple, her jaw, her cheeks. He brushed her hair off her face and wiped her tears. "I'm here with you. You're safe."
Safe. Safe. Safe.
Una squeezed her eyes shut and buried her face in Chris's chest.

trektober day 7: mirrorverse
The queen looked down at her with disdain. If she could even be called that- no crown, no kingdom, just a ragtag bunch of radicals and a disruptor on her hip. But it could not be denied she held incredible power, and her passion for justice (vengeance) radiated off of her in overwhelming waves.
The prisoner knelt before her, head bowed.
"Give me one good reason not to have you killed," the queen snarled. "Isn't it bad enough that you abandon your people for the enemy? Must you come after us yourself?"
"I'm here to help."
The queen laughed, a shrill sound that echoed off the ceiling. The prisoner looked up, eyes flashing.
"I never should have left." Her face softened with guilt. "I'm sorry."
"You're sorry?" the queen repeated. "You think that's enough?"
"I'm fully prepared to prove myself."
The queen raised her eyebrows. "My people have been hunted for generations just for being who we are. What do you offer to them? You're one Terran." She spat the word, and the prisoner flinched. "How could you possibly prove useful?"
"You'd be surprised how far I can get you in the Empire." Una grinned, and Neera bristled. "People tend to owe me favors."
