Moondrunk Monster Pt 1 (Ghost x reader)
Hey so this is my first Call of duty fanfic, so the characters might be wack. The general idea for this one is based off of a Love, Death, Robots episode where werewolves are basically in the military.
You're a retired combat medic that made a mistake, costing you your cushy office job. As punishment, you're sent to an active war zone, where you meet the 141, a squad of werewolves that slowly accept you as their own. (I know, I know I'm bad at summarizing)
Warnings: Extreme violence, smut in the future
Tumblr media
Part 1
It was odd to think of how much your life had changed in just a few weeks. At the beginning of the year, you were placed in a cushy job at a base where you were paid large amounts of money to stitch up red-faced recruits and perform physicals on the higher ups–it had been nice, a simple existence where you didn’t have to see blown apart soldiers or hold poor boys down while they screamed and screamed.
But things changed, and for the punishment of your mistake, you were flown here. An active warzone deep in the desert, where there were no boyish recruits eager to please, just grizzled soldiers that look at you like an intruder, a hen in the midst of foxes.
When you were younger, this was easier. You had liked the excitement and adrenaline of danger, of scurrying in the heat of gunfire with your medpack to save lives.
Now you’re older, grumpier, and generally out of shape. They hadn’t given you time to prepare before the Colonel shipped you out here, so here you were in an ill-fitting uniform, setting up your medic bay beside the wolf-soldier’s tent because the Captain insisted that was the only space left in camp.
Their original medic had died after both he and his supplies were blasted to pieces. Captain Graves shortly put in a request for an experienced combat medic, and you could imagine his surprise when he saw you step off the plane, a woman in her early thirties, soft from five years of office work.
The Captain, understandably, hated you. He was saddled with an overweight female medic and a squad of wolves, you were sure the combination put a few extra gray hairs on his head.
Ironically, wolf-soldiers were highly sought after in the military. They were quicker, stronger, and smarter than even the best of the best, able to walk barefoot in the desert without a blister or sniff out an enemy from miles away. You had seen a wolf blown nearly in half get up and walk out of your tent the next day.
Captain’s group was a particularly intimidating bunch. There was Johnny–or Soap, as he preferred–a mohawked wolf with charming blue eyes and a deadly sense of humor. Gaz was the sweetheart of the bunch, smiling at you in a friendly sort of manner whenever you were forced to sit at the end of their lunch table.
Price was their leader, a wide man with a deep voice and commanding presence. Honestly, he reminded you of your father.
Then there was Ghost, the wolf in the skull mask. He was the biggest, all broad shoulders and muscles encased in a healthy layer of fat–and, from what you had learned from your patients, the most dangerous.
On your first day, you had to dig a piece of shrapnel the size of your hand out of his shoulder. Ghost refused when you offered wolf-friendly pain medication, seeming to enjoy your expression as you watched the skin around his gaping wound knit itself back together.
The other soldiers disliked them, simultaneously jealous and fearful of their abilities . The 141 were excluded from the rest, much like you were, so you spent meals at  the other side of their table, minding your own business with a novel.
They didn’t seem to mind, after all, you spent half your time digging bullets out of them when the other medics refused to touch them. They weren’t used to humans being kind to them.
You quickly adjusted to life in the desert, sleeping in the back of the med bay in a rickety cot while your patients tossed and turned through the night. You got used to the early mornings and the shitty food, the screaming, the blood, settling back into a life that you had thought you left behind.
This morning was no different. You wake to the noise of shouting, the dark sky telling you it was far from morning.
“Where the fuck is the medic?” Price’s voice dominated over the others. You quickly stumble out of bed, shoving your legs through your pants and hastily buckling them as you hurried outside, wiping the sleep from your eyes.
The scene before you was gruesome. Gaz lay prone on the ground, throat slashed and guts strewn out of his belly like noodles.
If he were a man, he would be dead.
But even a wolf can die, and a body can’t heal around its  own intestines.
You were awake in an instant, shouting orders to the men around you as you dropped to your knees. His pulse was slowing as more blood pooled into the dirt, his body unable to replace what he was losing so quickly.
The thing about werewolves is that they are partially human, which allows them to take human blood in small doses if the need calls for it. But the issue was the blood itself.
Every week, you get a shipment of fresh, cold O-negative blood, giving you ample supply for every occasion. But a sandstorm had interrupted the usual shipment yesterday, and while you knew that the shipment was supposed to arrive at noon later today, that didn’t help you now.
Gaz gagged, blood gurgling from his throat.
“Shit, shit,” Soap said, his mohawk slicked with his friend’s blood. “Is he gonna make it, doc?” Soldiers huddled around you, supplies in their hands. You ripped strips of gauze and placed them over his throat, slowing the bleeding before you started on his gutted stomach.
“We’re out of transfusion blood,” you announced. “Is any soldier here O-negative?”
Silence. No human soldier would volunteer to give his own blood to a wolf.
Except you. You nodded, swiping an alcohol swab into the crease of your elbow before connecting the two of you with an IV, the bright red of your blood flowing into his veins at the gasps of both human and wolf around you.
It would stir up the healing process so you worked quickly, Amon, another medic, joining you as you worked on closing his stomach.
It felt like hours before his pulse grew strong again, but you knew it could only be ten, twenty minutes. You slid the IV out of your arm, blinking as black spots appeared in your vision.
You might have given a bit too much.
Gaz looked at you, his dark eyes replaced by an eerie yellow stare. A chill stole up your spine.
“Good morning,” you said through numb lips, taking a peek under the gauze on his throat. It was now only a pale scar, just a memory of a wound. “Look at that, soldier, you’re practically brand new.”
Gaz smiled weakly, his head falling back into the dirt. Soap whooped, gripping your shoulder in a vicious hug. “Good job, lass, I thought the pup was gone for sure.”
You stumbled at the weight of him, suddenly feeling exhausted. “Amon, will you get him set up in the infirmary? I think I need a moment.”
Price waved Soap off, gripping your elbow in a guiding hold. “Ease off the poor girl, Johnny, she’s dead on her feet.”
Soap merely grinned apologetically, ruffling your bedhead with a rough palm before helping the others move Gaz into the infirmary.
Ghost stood behind you, a reaper in sand-colored tactical pants. Price pushed you gently into Ghost’s direction, “Get her something to eat, Lieutenant.” “I’m alright,” you tried to insist, a spike of nerves in your belly about being with Ghost. He was the least human of them all.
“That was an order, doc,” Ghost said, his voice a dry rumble as his hand fell on your shoulder. “Go on.”
You allowed yourself to be herded to 141’s tent, having half a mind to curl up in one of their bunks and sleep until dawn, free from the smell of blood and antiseptic.
Their tent was neat and smelled, well, like an animal den–not unpleasant, just overwhelmingly…male.
Ghost nudged you towards the sink without a word.
It took you a moment to see that you were still wearing gloves, caked in Gaz’s blood. You stripped them off, then began soaping up your hands and forearms, scrubbing the red from your skin.
When you were clean, you hovered over a cot, about to take a seat for your shaky legs.
Ghost stiffened from where he was crouched, his hands in a tub of supplies. “Not that one.” You glanced down, seeing the Scottish flag on the wall, the photos of a couple that looked exactly like Johnny. “Oh, sorry.”
He jerked his head to another cot, this one bare of any decoration except for a cold cup of tea. You assumed it was Price’s, perhaps he doesn’t mind the stench of a human on his sheets.
You took a seat, your hands trembling in your lap. Ghost tossed an army bar your way. “Eat,” he said, in a tone that didn’t invite an argument.
“Ew,” you said, eyeing the packaging. He gave you a dark-eyed look, the kind that probably made wolves bare their bellies and whine. “Oh fine,” you huffed, tearing into it. It was awful, the kind of chalky that let you know they stuffed enough nutrition and calories in the bland, tasteless bar to keep a soldier going for days. You chewed and watched Ghost shift around in the makeshift kitchen, heating a pot of water over a spindly propane stove.
Was he making-
“Drink this,” Ghost said, passing over a cup of tea. He kept one for himself, pulling up a chair to sit across from you. He was still filthy from whatever mission the Captain had set them on, blood and dirt smeared over his gear and mask.
“Thank you,” you said, sniffing it doubtfully. You were American, so you didn’t have much taste for tea unless it was iced and sweet.
But when someone like Ghost makes you a cup of tea, you drink the fucking tea.
He nodded, turning away from you so he could lift his mask over his mouth to drink his tea. You looked away quickly, focusing your attention on the Scotland flag on Soap’s corner.
The two of you sit in silence for a long time, long enough that your cup is drained and you’re blinking heavily at the darkness still outside.
“Go on,” Ghost said, slipping the cup out of your hand.
You hide a yawn, pushing yourself up from the bed.“It’s alright, LT, I’ve got my own bed somewhere.” “You have half a dozen men in your tent, love.” Ghost backed you up against the bed, his heavy hand on your shoulder. “Sleep. We’ll keep an eye on Kyle.”
It made sense. You kicked off your boots and curled up on the cot, hiding your throbbing head in a pillow that smelled like gunpowder and musk.
Ghost ducked out of the tent as you laid down, your eyes falling on a skull mask folded up neatly beside the cot.
It was then that you realized this was his bed.

Episode 9 "The Harbinger" Review
Ah Jennifer, Jennifer, Jennifer... you love to watch us get all worked up don't you? But in all seriousness, I really enjoyed this episode. It's so beautifully animated and scored. I need the Kiners to drop the OST asap because man was the music stunning. (This episode also further proves that Echo clearly was the braincell of the group and I'm cackling).
As always, spoilers below:
BEHOLD! THE RETURN OF OUR QUEEN VENTRESS! I loved how she was utilized. I was surprised to see her actually be there on Pabu, but it makes sense since Fennec told her to find them. However, I am wondering how she did find Pabu. My guess is that Ventress was given Hunter's photo and meditated with it until she felt his presence... somewhere. Or she knew a guy who knew a guy who knew Phee. Everything from Ventress' design to voice acting was perfection. The animators really popped off with her Dark Disciple look. But, how did she survive? Nightsister magic? There's probably some explanation, but it'll be left ambiguous for reasons.
Her relationship with Omega was very well done. She's changed so much since her first appearance in CW. I liked the balance between her ability to still kick butt while also being a good person at heart as shown with Omega. She doesn't kill the Batch even though they got defensive (and I understand why they did). The scene where she calms the giant kraken-like creature was so so good. It's a nice way of showing how Ventress has found the light with the Force. Her line about being on a side of her own was also good and pretty much sums up her character perfectly. She's neither dark nor light, she's just right.
It's also obvious from the title that she's the harbinger. Harbingers are people that herald the approach of someone or danger. For the Batch, she's a harbinger of doom. That doesn't mean she herself brings the danger, but she tells them that their time is up. Repeatedly, she tells the Batch that they aren't safe even on Pabu. Which means that Pabu is gonna go down next week *cue sad yaying*. Even the lighting this episode signified doom. Pabu is shrouded in fog and the only light we see is from a sunset, indicating the end of the Batch's peace and safety.
Speaking of the Batch, they really do share one braincell and even then, it's usually with Echo. It's so awesome to see them work together again in combat. And we got to hear their theme again!! It was so triumphant and such a great moment! I know we'll hear it again, but this was such a good moment. I love that most of their moments were them just watching out for Omega. I know we all joke about the Jango Fett Mandalorian dad genes, but it's so true. Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair love their sister so much. Every time Cross was like "we're not handing her over," I got excited. Omega aside, the smaller moments like Wrecker teasing Crosshair or Wrecker mimicking his brothers were gold.
My favorite moment with the three was when Crosshair threw Hunter and Wrecker's weapons to them. The music went hard and the camaraderie between them is so heartfelt. These brothers will always have each others' backs. (Also, this is the first time we hear Cross call Tech by his name. Tech is still with them, even if it's in their hearts).
And of course there's our sweet bean, Omega. Next week will definitely be about her conflicted over the possibility of being Force Sensitive. It breaks my heart to see her so lost and confused. The Batch can try and help, but they're so out of their depth. I honestly think Omega will go back to Tantiss simply to see if she is capable of using the Force. There are so many questions about her identity. Why was she created? Why is she so important? I know a lot of people now think that she will off with Ventress in the finale if we do get a confirmation that she is force sensitive. Honestly, I hope she stays with her brothers. If they kill the Batch off, then I can see the Ventress end working, but I really hope that's not the case.
I wonder how the Empire will find Pabu. They could get really lucky, find a bounty hunter to track them, or even have a brainwashed Tech. I know the theory about Cross having a tracker or something was popular, but if that was true, then the Empire would've already descended upon them. Maybe Palpatine finds them through the Force; that I would believe. Either way, it will be very angsty and Pabu is doomed. But what do you guys think?
Anyways, that's all I have for now. Let's all prepare mentally for next week. Our little family is gonna need all the therapy and support they can get.

In regards to episode 92, I feel like they could've kept the shock factor and had that reveal of aabria right at the end of the episode, allowed bh to reach the encampment and continue their discussions even if the episode was shorter than usual and still end with orym sending to dorian (I wonder if liam knew that him sending to dorian was going to kick-start the swap) and sending everyone off screen to allow aabria to come in and send everyone off like she did. Plus, then we could've gotten a post credits description like we would get in the EXU episodes, and I feel like it would've tied in better + the people who were anticipating this episode would've felt more satisfied
Hey anon!
So I agree with you on this. I do think at this point I'm going to make a moratorium on "here's how they could have done it differently" anons just because I feel like I've covered it pretty thoroughly. Let the below indicate my general feelings in one neat summarized place; anons are still welcome to chat about other things but at this point what's done is done, we'll see the end of that combat in a couple weeks before returning to Bells Hells. While I would never stop someone from complaining as I love complaining and think refusal to do so or shaming thereof is unhealthy, I also think there's a point where you need to say "ok, this isn't really productive anymore" and to be clear, I'm not saying you've reached that point, but I think I probably have.
I was incredibly excited for a Bells Hells episode in the wake of FCG's heroic sacrifice and an exploration of their grief and anger and complicated feelings and loved the first half so I do feel rather like Lucy yanked away that particular football while I was mid-kick.
I'm not opposed to experimentation with the format, and some of it has been great, but I think a lot of what has made this campaign harder to connect to at times has been that it feels like it keeps accelerating and then supddenly pumping the breaks at odd times and this is yet another case
I liked EXU Prime and Kymal well enough (and that well enough is doing, to be honest, heavy lifting) and I really like the Crown Keepers as characters but I have always, from the start, been like "so are we going to discuss the uh, week-long memory loss or the Blightstar as a ship that carried a vestige and showed up in the port of Emon with everyone dead? are the Nameless Ones going to ever have like. motives other than 'be a cast of thousands that serves as an obstacle'?" and so, while the biggest complaint is, again, "Not Now" it's also like...you're giving me something that I've always had a potent combination of fondness and exasperation for and you're driving the needle further into the exasperation zone. To be clear: some of this might be addressed next episode! I really hope it is! But if it's not it's like well I saw these characters I like but the plot still is focusing on everything I care least about.
I actually do not like the post-credits descriptions in EXU Prime. I feel they're symptomatic of the above reservations about the Crown Keepers, namely, it feels like we were informed about what was supposed to be the focus without it being earned within the story (eg, in the case of EXU Prime, Myr'atta). I know a lot of people like this, but it doesn't work for me.

Audiodrama Sunday 04/21/24
I started writing this before Sunday evening at 11:30 this week. Look at me! Caught up on a bunch of older stuff this week, along with the Midnight Burger season pilot and Stories from Ylelmore season finale. Lets get in to it.
To start off, I finished season 1 of @longcatmedia's Mockery Manor. I really like this show, they managed to put a major reveal into every episode without spoiling the mystery. I was totally suprised when the killer was revealed, I didn't see it coming it all. Excited to start the next season, which looks like a timeskip and a new mystery, possibly at a new park, judging by the description of the first episode.
Season 4 pilot of @midnightburgr! The highlight of the episode was absolutely Grand Theft Mucklewain, but there was a lot going on. Caspar's son! The diner not working! Ava has a job! My theory is that the reason the diner isn't working is that Effie and Zeb were gone, which fits with what happened in the s1 finale. In that case it's going to start working again soon, but I wonder if it's going to stay broken for a few more episodes. We haven't seen Ava trying to get herself fired yet!
I caught up on 30+ episodes of @breakerwhiskey this week. It looks like my theories on the end of the world were correct, although I didn't realize that it was specifically tied to Whiskey. It's kinda tragic that Whiskey finally meets another person, and he immediately tries to kill her. Though with the most recent episode she might be about to meet someone else.
@storiesfromylelmore released its season 1 finale this week! This was a neat take on a bodyswap episode, Keryth with werewolf powers was so much fun. We also got a ton of worldbuilding, this show has such a cool magic system. I want rules for a Ylelmore TTRPG now! Overall this was a great first season, I can't wait for the next one.
This week's @midstpodcast was really interesting. We've learned so much about the culture of the Trust, and now we're seeing what Trust counterculture looks like. In a place where it's always light, it's rebellious to be in the dark. Also Backpack??? So many people are in on it. In theory this should be less of a surprise that Mr. Loxlee, who is in a much higher status position, but it feels more jarring somehow.
I listened to season 14 of @lostterminal this week. Only 1 more season until I'm caught up! I thought the AI cult was really interesting. It makes sense that in a post-apocalyptic setting with lots of AIs, cults worshipping them would pop up, but it's so funny from the perspective of the audience who know Seth so well. I love that he dealt with the cult by being so frustrating that it eventually convinced them that he was not a god. Also, the description of Nia's house/radio hut in the first episode was so cool! I want to live there.
I'm continuing to listen to Skyjacks: Couriers Call. The theme song and outro song for this show are so good, they perfectly fit the tone of the show. Couriers Call fits perfectly in to the small range of actual plays that I like: audio only, little combat, and a heavy focus on characters.
That's it for this week. I really enjoy doing these writeups, I'm definitely going to keep up with this.

C3E63 - reaction
FUN combat! Really pleased with the combats from this group, just been thoroughly entertaining and feel like they fly by! Interestingly though, this combat I kept thinking that I was seeing DM mistakes or player mistakes much more than usual. Didn't detract from my enjoyment, but took me a little by surprise.
Very fun moment with Marisha and Liam during the combat where she proposed he pull Hevestro out of the enemy with Seedling and he made a face at her because he'd already come up with the idea. XD
Poor barbarians and their wisdom saves XD
Wish we could have seen what the red orbs actually did. I think him reabsorbing one probably did heal, but it had to have been doing more than that, but they basically got sidelined.
Some Hishari lore! Finally! I'm actually very disappointed that this group has already finished and is returning back to the main grouping - this feels like it would have been the perfect time to make a detour for Ashton, especially because they Technically still had five days to do things (with possible who knows more from the failed teleport from team wildemount!). I'm not surprised that Matt had to massage the timeline a bit to make things work, but I'm also a bit disappointed by it. Especially especially because Taliesin has been showing interest in making storyline progress with the Hishari, having Ashton ask Abbidina and Hevestro about it. I hope more opportunities arise soon, but my guess is we're back on Main Plot track with the side journeys being finished.
Glad Matt specified that the Astral Sea wasn't just the sky/deep space.
I freely admit, I was one of the people who thought Bor'Dor was just who he said he was. I am very pleased to have been proven wrong! Utkarsh did a FANTASTIC job, and I see why they were pre-hyping the episode! Unlike Yu's about-face, this wasn't broadcasted to the audience at any point in time, so it felt like a true shock to the system.
Orym's little nod to Laudna! Laudna just completely losing control while feeling like she's in control! Delilah popping back in!
I fully agree with killing Bor'Dor. While the cast easily could have backed down and done a capture and talk scene, it felt right that it all boiled over and led to the finality of ending him.
I am FULL of feels! I'm very VERY excited to see how Laudna progresses from here, and also Orym now sort of shedding his hold on trying to be a Nice guy with throwing the locket away.
I wish we had another episode or two with the group. Even make it a little longer to allow for a Hishari detour, spend that extra time having team wildemount have to recover from the teleport!
Ah well. I'm still excited to see what happens next. IN TWO WEEKS AARGH.
EDIT: Oh! I forgot! I'm super confused with Bor'Dor's backstory though. The Menagerie Coast hates worship of the Wildmother??? What???

Thoughts on Ahsoka Episode 3 - Time to Fly - A Discussion Post
This week's episode was a bit short, but there was a lot of content to take in. So let's dive in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To start off, we got to see the PURGILLS! I screamed when they showed up. I remember we had heard a purgill flying overhead in one of the previous episodes. The majestic creatures flew overhead as Ahsoka and Sabine ran from Shin and her crew.
Sabine reflected upon seeing the creatures, saying that she hasn't seen them since the day Ezra disappeared. Seeing the purgills again was like a rush down memory lane for her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We finally got to see the young Jacen Syndulla! Gosh, he looks just like his dad. And they really did redesign him, his hair is a darker green. I wonder what his ears look like, as in Rebels, his ears had this green addition on the top of his ears. He is half Twilek after all. He is just so adorable!
Jacen had run over to his mom, asking if his Aunt Sabine is going to be a Jedi. I love how he calls Sabine "Aunt", I want to hear him call Zeb and Kallus his uncles. His and Chopper's friendship is just the best, I want to know what mayhem they cause together wherever they go. (Chopper definitely teaches him.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ahsoka and Huyang helps train Sabine in the Jedi arts. I loved how Huyang was so straightforward about Sabine's abilities, it's so funny. Ahsoka tries to train her while having Sabine "blindfolded" with a helmet she can't see out of, and Sabine definitely tries her best and her hardest. Let's just say it didn't go too well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hera speaks to a crew of senators and the Chancellor of the New Republic, Mon Mothma. I was delighted to hear that Mon Mothma became the New Republic's chancellor after all she's done in the Rebellion. Unfortunately, that now means she has to listen to all these senators for approval to do anything. Hera tries to convince the crew that Thrawn is alive, but they seem convinced that both Thrawn and Ezra died on Lothal and do not want to waste their resources searching for them. Mon Mothma seemed to agree with Hera, but she can't do anything if the senators don't agree. Hera is a mother, and if she feels Ezra is alive, then he's definitely out there somewhere. And if he survived, so did Thrawn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shin Hati, along with Marrok and a few unnamed people with helmets chase Ahsoka and Sabine's ship, trying to get rid of them. They certainly put up a magnificent aerial fight. As Sabine ran the cannons, she proved to be a good shot and fought back valiantly.
Ahsoka had seen the Eye of Sion for the first time and she had this look of concern. Huyang had scanned and explained the Eye of Sion to Ahsoka and Sabine, and this project definitely will have some kind of big impact once it is done with construction.
Tumblr media
Towards the end of the episode, Baylan stands with an army, ready to hunt down Ahsoka and Sabine in the forest. One of the guys wearing the same helmet as the others stands near Baylan, ready to follow his orders.
I remember this guy had gotten quite the screentime in the trailer, and everyone theorizes that this is Ezra, and I kind of do too. We know Sabine will catch one of these people using her Mandalorian vambrace, and the item is know for combatting Jedi. We'll see what happens. (I had made a post saying that I headcannon Ezra will come home next week because of this, but I might be clowning myself again 💀.)
I'm excited for next Tuesday's episode, it'll definitely be a blast. And I hope it's a little longer. That's all for now folks.

AND NOW, Time for Another Pikes Check-In Update Thingamajig!!!
Tumblr media
Basically this is just where I post current interests/events in life to see if other people are currently sharing the same interest, or if people just wanna catch up on things.
WITHOUT FURTHER ADO:
What I'm Watching
Seasonal anime: Summer season's just starting so of the ones that caught my interest at the moment are the following
Might see if Helck is good when it airs
I'm getting tempted to reactivate my Netflix account for My Happy Marriage but ehhh maybe when Beastars airs again. I do like stories where characters go through absolute shit but get better lives and heal from their experiences
Undead Murder Farce: I really like the character designs, and I love the snark of the protagonists. Hopefully it's like Appare Ranman but with Victorian England instead of 1910s-1930s America
Jujustu Kaisen season 2: Sucks that the airing schedule seems to be whack (first 5 episodes will be normal, but then it's gonna be on hiatus until like. October) but I love the OP, ED, character interactions, and the Digimon joke.
Bleach TYBW: Bleach was my choice of shounen as a youth and it's got me in an iron grip of nostalgia. Is the writing terrible at times? Yes! Do I still love it? Yes...for certain characters nowadays
Apparently Nier Automata's making a comeback? Hope so. It was hinting at big stuff when it last got hiatus'ed
MAL says Dungeon Meshi is gonna air this season but I doubt that
I'm also gonna watch the new Superman cartoon since a friend's letting me borrow another friend's Max account (I COULD technically reactive my account, but I hate how WB cut most of their projects & library for tax write-offs). And I'm 2 episodes away from finishing Iruma season 3, so once I'm done with that, it's onto Saiki K to watch during my lunch breaks when there isn't a seasonal anime to watch. ...Though I'm kinda wondering if I should swap it for Nanbaka now... Eh I already had the poll, so might as well stick to the poll until I finish Big O
What I'm Playing:
Just finished the 2nd labyrinth of Persona Q. I'm not really looking forward to replaying the 3rd labyrinth since it's horror themed. (Plus this was around the time I actually had to start playing with a guide because of a few FOE puzzles. Gonna be distracting to do so as I play). That being said I love that this combines EO dungeon exploration with Persona combat. Makes me wonder if I should try to get back to EO4 or see if I should get EO3 on modern consoles
Other potential interests: Ghost Trick (got the special edition right when I was in the middle of my Persona Q replay), 999 on Vita (solves the issue of not being able to play the updated version at work), possibly get back to Personas 2-5 (after I read the manga for the first game; keep forgetting to do that), maybe explore my Steam library since I have a few games there now thanks to the summer sale, maybe get back to playing Fantasy Life until I get to Al Majiik (though I forgot how tedious it is to grind for jobs). Just man. While I'm sad there's no FEMC for the P3 remake, I'm still super excited for it
Though with that being said it feels weird to buy games I already own just on different consoles. It'd be one thing if there were remakes/reboots, but nah. I just have Nier on both PS4 and Steam now. Game collecting's a weird hobby, but one I enjoy nonetheless
Other Stuff:
Anxiety spiked a bit today after seeing discourse start to pop up here again & cringing at past mistakes I've made, hence the checkup post you see now
While I'm cool with my job, I don't like how it consumes so much of my free time/energy. If I can get paid enough to work 4 days without me having to do 10 hour work days, that'd be pretty neat
Barbie movie's in a few weeks oh boy
Another con's happening at the end of the month, but it will be like 3 hours away. Gonna go with a friend then but hopefully my car sickness doesn't kill me.
Then the next con I definitely want to go to is in September
And after that I'm gonna see Hadestown with another friend
Not sure what to do for a Halloween shindig with friends. And it might be the brainrot talking but I kinda wanna go as Shinjiro from Persona 3? Though I also want my coworkers to recognize my costume, so I might need to start looking for Vampire Hunter D attire now.
THUS ENDS THE CHECKUP!

Westworld: Generation Loss (4x04)
There's so many different timelines... so much is going on... but this was a great episode!
Cons:
I don't like having to work so hard to figure out what's going on. We get that scene at the end with Bernard, and the mystery woman who rescued him and Stubbs. Turns out, that's Frankie, Caleb's daughter all grown up. I don't need to be that confused about timelines! Why is it always Bernard, who's in the middle of all the timeline fuckery? It's kind of exhausting.
I've got to say, visually I didn't really enjoy Caleb's "oh shit" moment when he goes outside and he finds out that Hale's future dystopia has come to pass. It just looks like a generic sci-fi vision, a big creepy panopticon tower or what have you. Visually, despite how impressive a lot of the effects are, this show can have the tendency to get a little same-y.
I was legitimately shocked by the Maeve and Caleb (temporary-ish) deaths, but I wish they hadn't had Maeve be in love with him. If that's even what they were implying. We see in flashback that she decided to leave so that Caleb could have a normal life, but then got pulled back in because she was curious and wanted to check on him. This just felt a little weak to me, I don't know. I really like the energy between Maeve and Caleb as characters, and I don't want it to be this thing where Maeve is the martyr putting herself through suffering for Caleb's sake. That just doesn't feel great.
Pros:
Overall, though, despite my resistance to actually trying to track the various complexities going on in this story, I did greatly enjoy this episode.
Tessa Thompson does a good job with the sort of Dolores-esque inflection to her speech. Charlotte Hale/Dolores is a fascinating character, and I liked the standoff with her and Caleb, who turns out to be dead, and is now a host. Good twist, if not exactly hard to predict! It's a sci-fi staple to have the reveal of the dystopian future, that moment where you realize that the bad guys won. This was a pretty good version of that trope, especially because we were in the midst of Maeve and Caleb trying to prevent this outcome, and then there's the slow dawning realization that they failed long ago. That worked for me!
Christina, who I mentioned in earlier episodes was probably my least favorite aspect, suddenly got interesting. You put Teddy back in the story and I'm immediately perking up. We still don't quite know how Christina contributed to Hale's evil future where all humans are controlled, but we know that she was writing stories for NPCs who turned out to be real, in some sense. I loved the romantic tension in the date scene with Teddy, and I'm eager to see where this story might lead us next!
Despite generally not caring much for the Bernard story-line, I did like that we got confirmation that the woman rescuing him and Stubbs last week was in fact a grown up Frankie, looking for a weapon to help bring down the baddies. Who do they find buried in the desert? Maeve's body! Assuming they can get her back online and on their side, I'm excited to see how they might be able to combat Hale's evil shenanigans. I'm actually pretty excited about how all the pieces are aligning right now!
So that's where I'll leave things. A pretty solid installment of the show, one where even paying half-attention as I am sometimes wont to do, I was still surprised and gripped by the turns the story was taking.

[Transcript:
I think I've spent a totally normal and respectable time on Minec— and, okay guys, now, I've also been building a huge build on a creative world. Which may or may not lead to a big build being build here [on the Dream SMP].
So, that’s exciting, so, I'm not gonna show you it cause it's in— actually, wait I actually can give you a sneak peek. I can log on, I can log on for a second and show you what I've been building, you'll only get to see the inside. But, um, let me show you, um, it's— it's— look, it's going pretty good, let me log on, let me connect to the realm, um.
[Reading from chat] You can build? Um, well, I dabble, I dabble guys. Um…
[Reading from chat] Add me to the realm. I mean I might, I might.
[Increasingly impatient] Connect- why is it not letting me connect, let me in, let me in.
Okay, look guys, all I'm saying is I did a bit— I did a bit of build practice and… y'know, I started building some stuff, I've started building some stuff and I mean, look, look it's in progress, it's in progress, and I've calculated that if I do that, and then get the amount— the correct amount of blocks, that I'll be able to build that, so…
[Video cuts]
[Cut-off] —announcement, I do have some very awesome lore coming soon, and look, I've joked about lore, but this time I'm serious, I'm serious this time, it's coming soon. Like, within the next two weeks, and its cina— guys, it's cinematic. Um, yeah, it's not very long, but its pretty damn good, so… yeah, I mean…

hello !! i loved your works on ex-black widow!reader and scarlett witch!reader ❤️❤️ they are chefkiss!
May I ask if headcanons with steven and marc x master of mystic arts!reader (I mean like an assistant of Doctor Strange) were possible?
Thank you!
A/N: So this weeks episode just hit me in the feels, even if I'm now hella confused about things. I also loved Steven's time on screen and the fact he got to show how smart he is. Cue me finally posting this and catching up on some more Moon Knight asks cause a week is now too long for the next episode.

Having trained in the mystic arts, you realise the universe is infinite in ways most people could never understand, so things like aliens, gods, and avatars wouldn’t be all that strange to you. Unexpected, maybe, in that seeing it with your own eyes is very different to reading and imaging it, but not strange.
I feel that your story would end up with you coming across Marc in the US, whilst you’re based at the Sanctum with Dr Strange. Given the fact that the Gods are running around, messing with the natural order of things, you would be informed about them pretty quickly, if you didn’t already know they exist.
Maybe Marc comes to you in search of a magic artefact that is being kept with you, and after a failed break in attempt (cue an awkward skirmish with him) you get filled in on what’s occurring.
After all, someone trying to raise a goddess and take control over the powers of life and death is sure to fall within your remit as keepers of the universe. The Masters and Dr Strange would have to agree that you should look into things a bit more closely.
He probably has enough on his plate given everything he’s been through in recent films etc, so he’d be happy to delegate.
Tumblr media
So, you end up following Marc to London, after tracking him and his disappearance.
Making a base at the London Sanctum, you get to work trying to track down Marc and soon learn of Steven, and their predicament now that Khonshu has them running about as his avatar.
After reuniting with Marc, and introducing yourself to Steven, you quickly join forces.
Sure, Khonshu would be wary of your involvement, given your powers and your lack of fear when it comes to facing him and the other gods. He likes to be in control, especially when it comes to his avatars, and would worry you’d be a distraction and possible threat.
However, he’d come around pretty quickly when he realises how useful you are, and how talented. He also needs all the allies he can get.
Marc and Steven would be impressed how easily you take things in your stride, like stepping through portals and meeting other divine beings. To be fair, you’re used to dealing with matters of the universe and creation itself.
Tumblr media
You’d offer to use your powers to try and separate them from their joined forms in one body, even if it is only for short bursts of time. It means you can talk to both Marc and Steven, and try to work out what the hell has happened to them thanks to Khonshu’s powers.
You’d also be able to share the knowledge you already have, as well as what’s in the masters’ archives, about such things.
Steven would almost combust when you show him ancient manuscripts or artefacts - particularly at the London Sanctum. He’s like a kid in a candy shop and it makes your heart ache with love for him, to see him so happy and excited. It’s infectious.
You also enjoy when he shares stuff with you too, like in Amit’s tomb, when you both start fan-girling about the ancient sorcerers buried there.
You enjoy trying to kick Marc’s ass at combat training - without the magic, he insists, in the spirit of keeping things fair. However, you do play a little dirty from time to time, as does he, letting things get out of hand when it comes to pinning one another to the floor in a sweaty, tangled, heap.
Basically, a whole lot of risking your lives together and sharing your experiences, would end up bringing you all closer. This means that when you finally decide to be more than friends, it isn’t really a surprise.
You like making Steven laugh with cute little magic tricks, like changing something to a butterfly that flies and sits down on his nose. Marc isn’t quite so easily amused, but he still cracks a smile every now and then.
They also both have different nicknames for you, mostly magic based puns that have you rolling your eyes affectionately. They’re only allowed because they let you do the same thing in return.
Marc would sometimes join you if you chose to meditate, as it help sometimes to quiet his mind. Steven would be the bigger fan though, grateful to have a way of trying to keep the calm amidst all the madness in your lives.
You’d have your spats though, given Marc’s stubbornness and willingness to do things that cause a mess.
“You want to re-wind the sky?”
“Technically, time - it moves the sky, so we can see what the stars looked like-”
“No! No, we are not bending time or reality or the sky, or whatever this is!”
Also, Steven would sometimes end up arguing with you about things if he feels like you keep things from him, or if he felt left out between your powers and Marc’s ninja skills.
“What use is a bloody book worm? No wonder you fancy him more - you can see it. I’m right, aren’t I?”
The weirdest though, is when they fight with each other. It’s hard to keep track of who you’re mad at and who is who sometimes, but you learn to make it work. You all have your strengths and weaknesses, but you’re a team nonetheless.

As many of you know I am currently an 18 hour student in college. You may also know that recently my psychiatrist diagnosed me with Bipolar disorder, ADHD and autism (a perfect example of why you don't smoke when you're pregnant.)
Here are some things I do when I'm not in a depressive episode, to make depressive episodes more manageable.
-Clean my room
Every time I'm feeling like I have any energy and can get up and do something, the first thing I do is clean my room. I do this because having a clean room makes it easier to function and feel productive. It also helps my room from getting so messy that I can't find the strength to clean it. Even just picking up trash and throwing things in my closet helps.
-Organize my desk
I'm an 18 hour student. I'm in six classes right now. I have to do homework and study everyday. Organizing my desk gives me a clean and aesthetically pleasing place to work. Because let's be honest, 90% of the time I'm studying for the aesthetic. Keeping my desk clear (subjectively of course, because it's always covered in shelfs, storage baskets, ect) makes it 100 times easier to get up and do work, because I won't have to use all my energy to clean it before I even open my computer.
-Update my planners
I love planners. Both to keep all my assignments, appointments, and activities in one place, and to use all the stationary I collect. For me being able to update mine is relaxing and productive.
I have one classic student planner my mother got me at the beginning of the semester because she knows I love them. I also have a digital planner on my iPad. I don't use both of these at the same time. I used the digital one last spring semester and for the summer semester, and I've been using the physical one since I got it this semester.
I also put all of my classes and assignments into my calendar. Since I have a macbook, iPhone, iPad and apple watch, it syncs across all my devices so I NEVER miss a notification for an assignment or an appointment. If you don't own just about every apple product, you can use google calendar, which will also sync across your devices.
I also have two whiteboards. One average sized one that's hung up on my wall, and a small one sits on my desk. On the big one I've divided it up. The top half is divided into seven columns, which I use to write what assignments are due each day that week (everything is color coded so I always know which class everything is for), as well as any appointments I have (I'm in the process of getting a lot of dental work done, so I have a dentist appointment every two or three weeks.) On the bottom half I have my long term goals (like making presidents list this semester, getting my Ph.D, joining the FBI) I also have some aesthetic magnets and stickers just to make it look pretty.
On my smaller one I just write out my goals for the next couple days (ex. Sunday 10- Study for exam 2, watch ch 7 lectures, start unit 3 lectures.)
I also keep a to-do list of all the assignments I have due each month of the monthly overview page of my planner, because I enjoy crossing them off as I go.
-Buy something
One of the easiest ways to motivate myself to work is by buying something. Whether it be something as big as a new computer or as small as a new pen. That way I get excited to use whatever I bought and then end up doing my work to use it.
-Decorate
like I've said, 90% of what I do is for the aesthetic. So making sure everything on my desk fits my colorscheme, making sure all the furniture in my room matches, making sure my walls are decorated in a way I like, is very important to me. So I try to take some time to see if there is anything I can improve about my room to make it look better. That can be as simple as moving a few paintings I have hung up, going to the dollar store and buying a cheap photo background to hang behind my desk, or as big as buying a whole new shelf to put my combat boot collection on.
-Watch some of my favorite TV shows.
I know, this is already something you do during a depressive episode. But taking a break to watch a TV show you like is so much better than scrolling on TikTok. After you do a few assignments and clean up your desk a little, you can say "Oh, I'll just watch an episode of ______ and take 43 minute break, then finish my work after." No one ever said "Let me watch just five TikToks then get back to work." You probably end up losing track of time and sitting in bed for three hours scrolling.
Depending on what your favorite show is, it can also motivate you to get your work done. I love Criminal Minds. I wanna be in the FBI. While I know Criminal Minds is nothing like actually being in the FBI, watching Spencer (really just exist honestly) do geographic profiles and dig up information for the team from books, articles, ect makes me want to go get my work done, because I want to be an I.A. (Intelligence Analyst) and do essentially what he does, and I know in order to achieve that, I have to start getting serious about it now.
-Get ahead
This may seem kinda obvious, but getting ahead in assignments and material when you have the energy to do work, helps you not fall as behind when you don't have that energy and can barely pull yourself out of bed to eat.
This also helps me from getting bored when I actually want to get stuff done, and ending up back in bed on TikTok.
----
I know these things aren't going to work for everyone, but they're what works for me, so I figured I'd share them. Doing these things don't completely get rid of my depressive episodes, but they do help me deal with them better.

god yeah this is specifically about the fanon version of imodna but applies to SO much throughout fandom but the specific feeling of enjoying The Thing that is popular in fandom while At Best disagreeing with the fanon interpretation of it is so exhausting. and even for things outside of shipping! like molly was my "favorite" character in the sense of "i can't wait to see what this fucked up awful funky little guy does next" and then i dipped my toes into fandom (and fic, especially) and was like. "oh. these people who call him their fave are living in a different reality. cool i guess." and that happens in every fandom, i know, but i swear it's endemic to cr in a way that i haven't seen in other fandoms i really wanna know WHY that is (or if you agree at all! it's difficult to find folks who Disagree With Popular Fanon but are still vocal lmao). i have a few guesses but my major one would be that with there being So Much Content it's very easy to zero in on the moments you feel like "support" whatever your understanding is while disregarding the 3.95 hours per week of context that sandwich any one moment. only partially-related but i think with laura characters specifically, i would say she's had the most consistent run of characters that are, at least at first glance, approachable - like obviously they're all Fucked Up (as in like. traumatized etc, not Evil Incarnate) but you have to be willing to Dig and ascribe "negative" traits to see just how deep and complex that Fucked Up-ness runs, and when you already believe you understand her mindspace that's a lot harder! and by "approachable" i do mean like. in a literary-criticism "easy to extrapolate motivations/characterization and get in the headspace of" way, not necessarily a friendly bubbly way, especially compared to other party members (and ESPECIALLY in c2, where jester was Both definitions of approachable). but by the time that complexity is really showcased, that surface approachability has infected fanon to the point where her characters are most likely to be used as an audience surrogate - and the AUDIENCE has no agency in the campaign, so laura's characters don't "get" to have any, either. anyways rounding this off with a general thank you for being willing to Put Your Thoughts out there, it really helps to know that like. no, i'm not somehow managing to completely misread a situation/characterization/etc and everyone else somehow Gets It lmao
I think you hit it square on the head here on why this can be super pronounced for Critical Role:
There is tons of content which is very easy to cherrypick
It's ongoing and things can take weeks or months in real time to resolve giving plenty of time for headcanons that build on headcanons that build on headcanons and become solidified in people's minds before the foundation collapses.
It's a pretty massive time commitment to rewatch
The weekend after an episode airs, a lot of people cannot access the show again until it's posted to YouTube so again, fanon can flourish and it's hard to show that canon debunks it
The lines between cast and character can become blurred quite easily; several cast members stay in character voice even when announcing combat actions, and they chat OOC or look at each other as friends during the show in a way that can very easily be taken out of context
Laura specifically does tend to play characters who are in fact quite rigidly controlling their image and emotions, and people fall for the mask and project onto it, and then when it slips and the character expresses a feeling, people get Big Mad.
Anyway, glad you enjoyed me being really fucking pissed off; as indicated I have just decided this campaign to take a spiked bat to bad fanon, and I am very excited for what comes of this in the actual story.

Can I ask for your thoughts on the newest Fantasy High ep? I enjoyed it, but honestly I'm more excited for the next episode based on that preview...
**even more spoilers for the sisterly showdown**
OK, I’m back for Hot Takes: Part 2.
First, just a few stray things I forgot last time:
I’m sure Adaine is enjoying having bested Aelwen (yeah, spelling #3 guys) in the moment but I can’t imagine she’s gonna enjoy all these nerds making cow eyes at her if her time in the AV office is any indication. Though, to be fair, these nerds could have more game.
“OOPS BITCH.” Siobhan with the awesome episode enders back to back.
Anyone who saw Fabian jump on the Hangman, make a lap while on fire, and then come back, still on fire, was probably like, “Classic Fabian.” I wouldn’t even question it. Very on brand.
Did y’all notice that at a certain point of the fight, everyone clearly went “Game Face” and started playing to win? Like they were joking a lot less and getting all quiet. I was almost holding my breath for them at points. I am convinced they were all having war flashbacks to the first fight. I know I was.
OK, on to new business!
I think I’m on record as saying that combat is my least fave part of RPGs.You’re spending a lot of time IRL to cover relatively small amounts of time in story and I especially dislike RPGs that use initiative based fighting systems (which is most of them I think) because then you end up with situations like in this ep where Siobhan kept  wanting to attack Aelwen but she couldn’t react when it would make sense for her to do so because she rolled low on initiative. And it’s where most of the rules of the game are and it can get nitty gritty when I prefer to loose, sandbox-y elements of an RPG.
I want to also reiterate that I think Brennan does a fantastic job of making the combat fun to watch by having inventive fight themes and the rest of the cast is fun no matter what.
That being said, I far and away prefer the story episodes to the combat ones and the entire ep I was like, “OK, but then I’m gonna have to wait a whole week for the conversation that happens after this fight,” WHICH IS THE PART YOU WANT TO SEE OBVIOUSLY.
So I am also more looking forward to the aftermath of the fight than I was the fight itself (although the little bit we got of Adaine getting to finally beat Aelwen was great). Here’s a shot list of things I want addressed/am looking forward to.
What exactly is Aelwen’s part in this? Mastermind? Doubt it. Pawn? Maybe. Being magically manipulated? I mean, possible but I kinda hope she’s just Like This. Anyway, if everything is going to end up dovetailing together (like these stories usually do) and Aelwen is a part of the Palimpsest conspiracy which was part of the Harvestmen’s attempted hit on Kristen which was part of the effort to start a war I’m curious about what reason Aelwen would have to want a war. Like, is that conducive to her lifestyle? Does she know about the war thing specifically or does she just know that s/t shady is happening and if she doesn’t ask too many questions, she’s in the clear? Brennan, fighting slime monsters is great but I have story questions.
They basically have Aelwen dead to rights on this, but I wonder how she’s gonna play this. She doesn’t strike me as the spill guts immediately type. And she should be smart enough to play the diplomatic immunity card. But I hope we at least get some info out of her.
Man I hope Riz’s mom gets to arrest her. Which would lead to Mr. Abernant yelling at her which would lead to Adaine yelling at him which she should more because it’s great.
If Fabian lays low, he’s probably gonna get away with the whole kissing Adaine’s sister thing. She really did not care AT ALL compared to how pissed she was at Aelwen, even before she started actively trying to kill them. On the other hand, she could just be prioritizing and Fabian’s still in for it a, “What the hell, man?” Even if she’s not actively mad at him, this won’t be a point in his favor if he ever decides to make a move on her in the future (which it looked like he might).
I wonder how much, if anything, Mr. Abernant knows about Aelwn’s extracurricular activities. Because either he doesn’t know what she’s up to or he does but he’s in denial and/or protecting the family name. I wouldn’t even be asking the question except for that clip of  him being all, “You can’t jail a diplomat’s daughter!” Although, wouldn’t it be wild if it turned out he was talking about Adaine instead of Aelwen there?
And what’s up with Aelwen and Ostentasia? What did she know? What was she helping her with? Did Aelwen have this whole party set up just to get a good chance to snatch her?
Y’all, there are 4 episodes left. FOUR. We’re getting close to the endgame. There’s not a lot of time to introduce a new set of antagonists, you know? So I feel like next ep has to drop some pretty major info bombs. Especially since we still haven’t addressed all the weird crap Adaine found in her sister’s room. See, the conversation right after the fight! That’s where the magic happens.
Riz’s dad! I’ve been waiting for this to go down since the graveyard ep and it looks like it finally will! In the promo, Riz says, “Hey Mom. I know about dad.” Which is kinda throwing me for a loop because either that means he doesn’t know exactly how his dad died and Adaine tells him or (the more intriguing option) something even wilder went down which Sklonda is keeping from him and Riz is about to have a storm coming.
“Detect maiden.” MMM ominous. So, is this an classic maiden sacrifice for big spell thing we’re leading up to?
KVX? Ominous again.
I’ve been meaning to say this. Wasn’t it established in E1 that the setting of FH is this weird little area of the world that happens to look like a modern irl suburb, and the rest of the world is like a normal DnD setting? I didn’t think that would end up mattering since the story has so far been confined to the immediate area but if war ends up happening, it could factor in.
Also, Adaine finally read that book on Aguefort which raised a lot of questions and suggested time travel might become a factor at some point? Which would be WILD. Imagine Back to the Future but instead of Marty it’s Fig. The timeline would be in shambles.
Brennan keeps mentioning this Nightmare King person and I’ve been keeping that in the back of my head all season, waiting for it to pop up because I refuse to be blindsighted.
And, speaking of, that ice cream later wish is still in play. Don’t think I’ve forgotten.
So yeah! Next episode should drop some big story bombs and I’m SUPER pumped. Lemme know if I missed anything you wanted to hear about.

I've noticed your comments about Love Live Sunshine and don't get me wrong, we all have our own opinions and I'm not telling you stop posting your negative thoughts about it, but why do you hate Love Live Sunshine so much? And if you hate it that much, why are you even watching it?
I suppose it comes off as hate doesn’t it? Well despite how it appears, it’s not entirely hate, it’s mostly disappointment, and while that might not sound much better i’ll try to explain what I mean, hopefully to a degree that it can be understood.
Spose I should start at the top shouldn’t I?
I think it goes without saying that this point that I didn’t like the original show at all, it had its moments, and 2 or 3 good characters, which isn’t saying much I realize but these casts are fucking bloated of course only a handful will be likeable. The concept seemed really fucking stupid from the outset, and it is, but I’ve seen worst, and as a first attempt by SunRise for an Idol show, to my knowledge, the idea to give it an actual plot to follow was in theory a noble one. It failed completely, but the thought was there. More to the point, almost everyone was completely flat, incredibly stupid, and beyond insufferable.
I’ll be honest, I can put up with a lot, and if I had chosen to watch it of my own volition I’d probably have been more forgiving of the writers dancing on active fault lines, but at the time some years back, I had several people breathing down my neck to watch the fucking show so I went in pissed off. Don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t change the fact that these characters say and do things that would make me want to hurt a small child, but I would still have been more kind to it in the long run.
Then the movie happened, and well.... Lets just say the series needed the fucking soft reboot that was Sunshine after that abysmal travesty of a movie that completely deficated on a third of the casts character development. I’m still trying to work out the quantum fucking mechanics of how Honoka could receive her microphone from her future fucking self BTW.
I openly admitted this at the time, and this is important because this is often overlooked by the crowd. I said that after the failure of the movie, and knowing that a new series was coming, if SunRise could learn from their mistakes, then I would gladly and open-mindedly go into Sunshine with a positive attitude and be kinder to it if the series was able to escape its charred charcoal burned roots.
Needless to say I was absolutely blown away by how incredibly Sunshine could be at times, and how baffling disgusting and incompetent it could be as well. I stress that Sunshine is wholly the better property I was able to enjoy more than whole episodes and character arcs completely this time around, as opposed to the original where I enjoyed maybe 10 minutes of its total 700 minute run from episode 1 to movie credits.
The series had incredible characters to start, those already good characters ACTUALLY GREW INTO EVEN BETTER CHARACTERS, THESE CHARACTERS ACTUALLY GROW AND MATURE AND THAT’S INCREDIBLE. I’ll say openly that the second years are some of the best characters I’ve seen in any anime in the past several years, and I would never hope to take away from that. Better was that we actually had rivals that we could see and understand, that weren’t placed on a pedestal for no discernable reason, one that stood on relatively even ground that could be combatted in real time, force growth and change upon both groups.
At the same time, while the series had heights and feats that rivaled Everest, it also had lows that would put the Mariana Trench to shame. No, I don’t care what anyone says, I will never get over all the bullshit that happened between Mari and Kanan, and how absolutely disgusting Kanan is, even now, refusing to grow up or stop being a cunt or do anything of value to the group you so claim to love. I’ll be generous and say I was fucking disgusted by SunRise repeating what happened with Honoka and Kotori in the first season here with Mari and Kanan, almost beat for beat. It was terrible the first time, and suicidally bad the second time.
To regain the focus, by then end of it while my opinions were of the mixed nuts variety with plenty of roasted salt, I still gave it a hearty recommendation because I thought it was genuinely pretty good, blue cuntveats notwithstanding.
NOW
Where my problem overall with Season 2 lies. If it disappointment and wasted potential were a physical force this series could level mountains.
From the beginning we’re told that we’re on an incredibly strict time crunch and that we need to focus all our efforts hardcore in the second round.
Only for almost literally all of the first 6 or 7 episodes to be nothing but filler and padding to waste time, where no growth or progression of any kind took place at all, and such wonderful gems as
Dia: Please call me Dia-Chan.
Chka: No!
and the omnipresent
Chika: Teach how to do a backflip
Kanan: Not on your fucking life!
Kanan: Oh shit she learned how to do the backflip...
Where it all came to a head however was with the reveal of just how many students the school actually had, because that was something that was never brought up. The total number of students is 68 when all are accounted for. And the is beyond miserable. 100 fucking students isn’t enough, to maintain the school you need at least 200, but closer to 300. With 68 students the school should’ve closed fucking years ago. The revelation of that number killed the entire fucking show, it made moot the efforts and development of every single fucking character, because no matter what, even if they had gotten 100 students, this same predicament would still inevitably rear its head once again next year or the year fuckin after.
I want to make clear, more than anyone else on this site, I have authority to speak on this matter, and no one can refute this, hell I’d barely even listen to them if they did because I severely fucking doubt they ever dealt with this sort of thing, if they did they would totally agree with me.
I have come face to face with a school closure myself. 15 years ago the district announced that my Elementary school would be closing, this school with 700 students that churned out some of the best results in the city might I add. It was a hard and long fought battle, it lasted 3 years, but eventually the parents won that war, and it’s still open now. How did they do that? By actually getting involved, going to meetings, talking directly to superintendents and comptrollers, explaining things like how some of them go to work really early or work late, they can’t send their kids anywhere else because they’d never be able to make it to other schools in the morning on time or pick up on time because of how far away they are, how different schools offer different programs, and not all schools offer the same accommodations for special needs children as this one did, ETC. The point is, the parents got active in the fight, the people that might have been able to affect the outcome did, and while it was no easy task, they did it, they actually fucking one that battle.
I don’t expect even a fraction of that to occur, but to at the same time tell me that the parents don’t know or care at all, much less any of the other fucking 59 students are powerless to help in any meaningful capacity is an absolute load of horse shit.
Where it started to bring my blood to a boil, nay to a bursting point, was what happened in the last to episodes with Saint Snow. The best song the franchise ever gave us was Self Control, followed by Shocking Party. This is a fact. From a single interaction some of the most intriguing and likeable characters we got were also Saint Snow. For them to be all but ignored in season 2 until 8 fucking episodes in is ludicrous, but for their first appearance in over 10 episodes to be them failing a concert and us not even getting to hear any of the fucking song, is insulting, it’s infuriating, it’s domestic abuse. This isn’t a slap in the face, this is Studio SunRise forcefully shoving their cock in your mouth against your will and punching you in the eyes with brass knuckles for crying about the cock in your mouth.
Honest to God, if I wasn’t committed to seeing this through, these last two episodes would be my first set my merchandise on fire moment, and that is saying a lot. It might sound like i’m being overdramatic, but honestly there are a lot of people that agree with me on this matter.
I did a lot of thinking in writing this post and it took me the better part of an hour to write it. I still hold fast on my thoughts about the original, 2/10 garbage.
I still hold to my opinions of season 1 Sunshine, 7/10 very good.
But this season? Well let me put it this way, I score every episode and tally the scores at the end, if season one got a 70 percent
Season 2 probably wouldn’t even reach a combined 20/130
I will still recommend newcomers to Sunshine season 1 absolutely, but I will also absolutely tell them to pretend season 2 never happened, do not watch it because it will make you commit homicide in the aftermath.
Why do I hate Sunshine Season 2?
Because SunRise finds new and exciting ways to fail at absolutely everything on every single level every week. I infamously gave the movie a 1/10, in the long run, I think I would sooner rewatch that movie on loop than ever rewatch this season of Sunshine ever again.
