The audiobook for Fox's Tongue and Kirin's Bone is the best audiobook I've ever listened to. I read the book first and listened to the audiobook a few weeks later and then got my brother to listen to the audiobook and he loved it too. The narrator perfectly captures the story and I noticed so many details that I missed the first time. I'm loving book two, but my brother has insane willpower and is waiting until it's finished and published in hopes that there will be an audiobook version lol.
Gary Furlong did an amazing job! And good news: I'm signed for a three book deal, so that's a yes on an audiobook version of book two, likely sometime next year. <3

Okay I found it! Ember Blade hits the spot. It's a beautiful focus on two best friends and the conflicts and tensions between them with all the loyalty and love in the mix and a great vast fantasy world with hints of magic.
What I liked about the premise proved quite true - it's kind of a Nazi Germany/Russian occupation of the East Block states inspired geopolitics, where one country occupies the other over 30 years. With all the parts of brainwashing children, making one country feel inferior and strife to the occupant's values, the split society, the secrecy, the hate of the regime but also the paralyzing fear of it, the desire to survive even as they are erasing your culture. Yep, great. The Krodan empire even has this thing about blond and blue eyes like Nazis had and there is a travelling kind of people who like music and witchery and locals always dislike that reminds me of the Romani people. Even a mining prison camp that's pretty much just a variation of concentration camps.
Anyway very much seeing the Europe inspiration, the occupation and the very accurate portrayal of such a regime and the conflict it creates between people who choose to collaborate to survive or get better life vs those that don't.
And the conflict between the two friends, how much they love each other while one hates the occupants and the other one strives to fit in with them🙈 yep that's juicy. When you find out your best friend has opposite political ideals, he is for the people that take your rights and freedom, agrees and likes them...but he is still a good person otherwise. Yep I feel that so much. Esp with Covid and Ukriane, there is so much split between my friends that this really hits the spot.

Writeblr Intro
Hello! My name is Kit. I am new to writeblr, but very old to tumblr. I live in the US, I'm 26 and use she/they pronouns.
I've been creeping on the tags for a while, but I finally made a blog just for writing. I'd love to share updates on what I'm writing, excerpts and talk about writing with other writers.
I'm currently writing my first novel, it's young adult high fantasy. I've written about 40,000 words in the universe, but I've recently finished a more detailed outline. So, I'm starting the real rough draft now that I know more of what I want to say.
A lot of my characters are queer and disabled, like me. I want to write books that are magical and that a lot of different people can see themselves in. I think fantasy serves as a cool conduit for imagining what the world could look like beyond a lot of the power structures we take for granted.
I'd love to follow other authors, particularly ones that are also working on longer term projects. I think it'd be cool to get feedback from people, or find other people who have been doing this longer and talk more about their thought processes. I'm open to following writers of all genres since I read them all and think there's so many cool things to learn from different styles!
Any advice on how to get started is appreciated, will be following anyone that interacts with this post.
I look forward to getting more involved in this community!

Author Ask Tag Game
A huge SORRY and thank you to @mjparkerwriting for tagging me in this waaaaay back in August (what the heck - how did this happen haha).
What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?
That sometimes being a strong, independent woman isn't enough. Sometimes we can't succeed alone or even with the help of loyal friends. Sometimes it really does take structural, systemic change and that change doesn't happen in a single life time.
As for why I chose this theme... I didn't really. I started with a premise (princess runs away from arranged marriage and accidentally falls in love with guy she was betrothed to). When I turned that premise into a plot with stakes I decided to have something that pressured the protagonist to go back to her marriage. The thing I chose was needing to prevent a war. The theme just kind of emerged from the tension between her saving her people and not being trapped in a marriage she didn't want.
2. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?
Southern England (loosely) in 1333 AD and some other cultures that would have been in contact with, bordering, or having diaspora in England (Wales, France, Breton, Al Andalusia, Persia, Byzantine Empire, Jewish diaspora, and like one thing from Scotland).
Other inspirations include a few Shakespeare comedies, how Tolkien uses English speech patterns to indicate social class, the Robin Hood myth, and Tennyson's poem "The Splendour Falls".
4. How many chapters is your story going to have?
Draft 2 had 15 chapters averaging between 3000-5000 words. I've already broken up one of those chapters in draft 3 and will probably break up more. So, at least 16? But I might split them all in half if I decide they are too many pages when I finally change the page size of my manuscript from standard word doc to book-sized. So maybe around 30?
6. When and why did you start writing?
The immersive daydreamer who loves to read to fandom to CinemaSins to film and tv show critique YouTube to writing advice YouTube to I'm gonna write my daydreams down so I can reread them for fun to I want to try my hand at a properly structured novel (but it's just for me) to dammit, I've put so much work in I want to polish this and publish it one day Pipeline is very, very real.
7. Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers on Tumblr do you follow?
You can edit a bad draft. It is so much easier to fix something than to make something from scratch. Your first draft is not an adequate reflection of your abilities as a writer - neither is your second, neither is your third. Asking for help is a skill, rewriting is a skill, workshopping is a skill, googling writing advice is a skill, taking a break is a skill. Your novel isn't your best work until it's done - feedback, and breaks, and months of writer's block and all. Push through. You're not a bad writer, or a good one for that matter, until there is a finished product to judge. I know looking at an unfinished draft riddled with problems can be demoralizing but you will find those problems and you will fix them. Just be patient.
I'm gonna steal MJ's idea and tag seven of my "other writers" - seven because that's how many questions are on in tag game.
@zeenimf, @ambiguouspuzuma, @macabremoons, @lexiklecksi, @sleepyowlwrites (though you've probably been tagged 1000 times in this haha), @stesierra, @ettawritesnstudies

writeblr intro!
Tumblr media
Well, hello there! Welcome to my page! Thought I'd finally get around to writing and pinning an intro, seeing as my writeblr recommendations post has gone STRATOSPHERIC and I've followed so many new accounts!
I'm Jeb (he/him), 20 years old, and an aspiring writer, poet and disaster dork from New Zealand (who currently lives in the UK - England, to be more precise). I'm a huge lover of writing and reading science fiction works, particularly hard sci-fi - Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series and his novel The Songs of Distant Earth were the works that inspired a young me to start taking writing seriously. I also write fanfiction, romance, horror, a smidgen of fantasy, spy fiction... whatever takes my fancy, basically! I also love writing and reading poetry, and hope to have some of my poems published professionally by the end of 2023!
Outside of writing, I'm a huge motorsport lover. Formula One is my main passion, and in fact I originally joined tumblr to post about my then-WIP, The Edge Of Control. TEOC may be in cryogenic storage, but my love of speed and high-octane racing remains: I regularly watch F1, IndyCar and the World Endurance Championship. I also love spaceflight, astronomy, Shakespeare, teen movies from the 80s/90s (ESPECIALLY John Hughes' work), many cheesy romcoms and lasagna. (What? It's literally the perfect food!)
Right, now with all that out of the way, let's get onto the real good stuff... (sorry in advance for the lack of taglists, I haven't remembered how they work!)

Writeblr Introduction (finally): N. Roy / words-after-midnight
Because I've been here since December and still haven't posted one of these.
Tumblr media
[Updated 22-07-2023]
About me:
I'm Nico (he/him), a 32-year-old chemist moonlighting as an author of dark adult contemporary crime fiction and horror. I'm based in Tio'tia:ke, colonially known as Montreal, where I live with my 10-year-old cat Saturday and most of my chosen family and friends. I plan to publish under a pen name similar to the one on my blog (ie. not my real name - I like to keep my different "lives" separate). You can read more about me here. I love tag games and ask games and interacting with folks on here! I especially love the Find the Word and Last Line/Heads Up Seven Up games, so please never feel like you're annoying me by tagging me in those. I also love any and all music tags!
What I write:
My novel-length projects - 95% what I talk about on this blog in terms of my writing - are predominantly (though not exclusively) in the realm of adult contemporary crime fiction, usually in combination with horror, thriller, docufiction, and/or psychological fiction. All of my novel-length works take place in the same universe, and are all - either directly or indirectly - connected to each other.
My short fiction is typically either contemporary litfic, slice-of-life, crime/procedural, or experimental horror. Most of my existing short fiction is currently being submitted for publication (or in the process) to various literary periodicals.
I write and submit freestyle poetry on occasion.
My forte is writing well-developed, messy, typically queer characters who exist on a continuum between morally gray to morally bankrupt, as well as complex, intense, and/or dark relationship dynamics. Other things I love writing and featuring in my stories include:
Small casts (I typically focus on 1-3 central characters)
Symbolism, motifs, and foreshadowing
Found/chosen families and homes
Exploration of dark real-world themes, including themes involving mental illness, trauma, and recovery
Intense and/or introspective narration
Faster-paced narratives
Trope subversion
Social commentary
Experimental narrative styles
Unconventional formatting
Genre-blending
Complicated endings
What I read (with some exceptions here and there):
Crime thrillers/dramas
Psychological thrillers/dramas
Contemporary horror (not into supernatural or fantasy horror unless the premise and/or themes are very intriguing)
Litfic with darker plots/character relationships
Mysteries (especially murder mysteries)
Dystopian and/or realistic speculative science fiction
My projects:
I currently have three active WIPs, which you can read more about under the cut. You can also find general information about all my projects here.

Writeblrs Appreciation Post
Well, I'm a couple bottles deeper than wholly advisable and should not really be posting anything to any sort of social media.
But is that gonna stop me?
Nope!
Y'know, when I first came to Tumblr, I thought this place was a cesspool of politics and sex. (And hey, nothing wrong with the latter, but as a sex-repulsed aro-ace... wasn't real big on that bit.)
But frankly?
This place is damned cool.
Like, for example, @sleepy-night-child. No one has ever been this enthused about my writing before. You are one hell of a cheerleader. Even when I'm not putting out writing worth a damn, you're willing to encourage me and still believe that perhaps, one day, I will ever finish writing anything at all. You're great. And your story, Black Feather? Well, I'm going to shamelessly plug for it here. I'm usually absolutely against romance stories. But your story... even my aro-ace, romance- and sex-repulsed self thinks it's a bloody good story. It doesn't get enough attention. Good stuff, that!
And @whither-wander-whump. Pardon my French once more, but damn, you're tough. Nothing seems to be able to hold you down. Seriously, how the hell do you do it? I would've gone nuts by now. Frankly, you're a bloody inspiration. And your writing? Look, not to dump on your cooking or your dancing, but your writing boggles my mind. Where does it all comes from? You have a gift, I swear.
Also, @ashen-crest. Publishing a book (or has it been two... or even more)? Either way, that's impressive! Even if I never plan to publish myself... full props to you. You have more guts than I've ever dreamt of having. And while I might be too broke to buy a copy (sadly), I've been following your updates on your potion story for a while, and from the excerpts I've seen... you are good at writing!
Because why not, I'm also going to call out @joyfulpolicehologram here. Continuing to write fan-fics despite widespread disapproval from those close to you? YES. And I can juggle 70+ characters, each with a backstory and the whole nine yards, but the very notion of writing fan-fic makes me want to run away crying. And the only reason I followed you in the first place is because I saw an excerpt of some of your writing, and it was damned good. Keep it up. You've got a talent.
There's also @faelanvance. Sure, we don't interact much. But you really promote other writers! You're willing to share the spotlight on your blog and you've got a discerning eye. If I'm not mistaken, at least some of the writers I've followed I've only learned through your reblogs. You have good taste. And it seems your writing is also downright excellent. Not only an excellent food critic, but an excellent chef as well (to make some culinary comparisons).
One more. @sleepyowlwrites. Where does the endless fount of positivity come from? I don't get it. It's like nothing gets you down. If I were working some of the shifts it seems you are, I'd lose my mind, and I certainly wouldn't have the energy to run an active writeblr blog. I don't have the energy to do that half the time anyway. You might be sleepy, but I admire the heck outta you.
Now, if you're one of my followers and I didn't mention you, please don't take it personally. Like I said before, I'm rather drunk at the moment. These are just the first six people I thought of before my fingers started getting tired. Six seemed like a good number at the time.
I will probably get embarrassed and delete this tomorrow, when I finally wake up.
But in the meantime... thanks, Writeblr. I didn't know what I was missing. You all are great. 😊

Writer Q&A Tag Game
I was tagged here by @bluberimufim and here by @squarebracket-trick!
Gently tagging @hyuccubus, @sunset-a-story, @full-on-sam and anyone else who wants to join
1 - What motivates you to write?
I'm going to sum it up like this: I have ideas hopping around in my brain. At some point, they hop around too much to the point where I go feral over them and know they have to be turned into something full and whole and tangible because I love them too much to just keep dreaming about it forever.
2 - A line/short snippet from your work or someone else's (please credit).
(I'm going through a "I hate my writing and everything looks like it sucks but I can't figure out why aergsgdfkjhgjh" phase, so maybe doing this could help.)
[CW// Mentions of suicide.]
"Yeah." He swallowed. "Big surprise. I chickened out last minute, but the others actually went for it and succeeded. They were too determined." Through the crack in the door, I spotted him burying his face in his hands. "Sorry, this is so sudden. I just… I can't deal with this place. Hate it. Hate it, hate it, hate it. Can't stand it here. So I thought the only way to get out was to just — oh, fuck, what's the point of trying to explain?" His voice cracked. "Nobody's gonna get it." I paused, biting my lip. Comfort wasn't my strong suit, but I'd dealt with suicide before. I knew what it was like, sitting next to someone who tried to end it all. I'd sat next to my sister on the balcony of our old home, next to the kitchen countertop where all her pills lay, almost swallowed whole, listening to her vent her heart out and hold onto me. This was something I had experience with. This was something I could handle.
3 - What OC makes you smile each time you think of them?
I'd say either Marie or Cillian, or both, since they're kind of a package deal; you can't have one without the other.
(Skipping ahead a little bit, let's head to question six).
6 - What is something in the writeblr community that is most enjoyable?
It's hard to pick one, so I'll list a few. Personally, the writing positivity and encouragement/support blogs (e.g @iloveyou-writers) tend to be my favorite whenever I'm going through a tough time, and with that are the wide range of advice and perspectives you can get from different writers. I find it hard to find other writing friends in real life, so having a community on Tumblr makes me feel like I've found my people, and I'm grateful for that.
8 - What's a piece of worldbuilding in your story that you're proud of?
Worldbuilding has always been a pretty daunting task, but creating the history and past conflicts in my world, despite it sounding so simple, is something I'd say I'm proud of. Not for any grand reason, but just for doing it and finally getting over that obstacle I didn't like before.
9 - What's some advice you'd give to other writers going through a rough patch?
Personally, I'd say that the best thing you can do when going through a rough patch with writing is to read. And I know it's not a very deep and profound piece of advice, but whenever I'm going through a rough spot, I find that taking a break and perusing someone else's work is what I need for my brain to start working again (no wonder I feel like shit lately; I've been neglecting this myself...). Writing is, essentially, reading your own work back to yourself as you're creating it, and sometimes, your brain needs a break from that. It needs variety, and the best way to achieve that is to read other things.

#Writeblr Introduction
Hi! I'm Emily (she/her), a 30-something Australian trying to write things that people want to read. I mostly write low fantasy and/or soft sci-fi, usually with a romantic streak.
Even when I actively try to not include any romance, my characters tend to just all fall in love with each other anyway. It's annoying.
Anyway.
Let's be friends! I'm totally happy for you to send me asks, tag games, etc.
I'll be posting writing content (both mine and others') in amongst fandom material. Mostly Disney (Tangled in particular), with some Doctor Who and other things thrown in when the mood strikes.
I'll be honest, Tumblr moves fast and sometimes I can't keep up. But I'll try to interact with you as best I can.
Current WIPs:
Paradox
TAG: WIP: Paradox
A time travel romance with an Eleventh Doctor/River Song vibe. Meg takes on a job assisting an elderly professor sort through all his files and begin writing his memoirs. The last thing she expects is to fall in love with his younger self.
Current status: first drafting
Wonderland
WIP INTRO POST
TAG: WIP: Wonderland
Inspired by Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, this is the third book in my series of virtual reality retellings. Max Drosselmeier finally finds out the reason for his ability to remove things from the virtual world and into the real one, but not before his limbs start disappearing one by one. (Ahem, you can read about and buy the first two books here if you like.)
Current status: first round of revisions
I also write short stories when the mood strikes, and in July 2023, I started writing fanfiction again after a ten-year absence from fandom.
Things I like to read and/or write about:
forbidden love
love affair that's too hot to last
characters not realising they're in love with one another, or being oblivious to the other one's feelings
found family
friends-to-lovers
characters begrudgingly having to work together and realising they're a good fit
fairy tale/classic story retellings
jerk with a heart of gold
banter
male characters (especially love interests) who look like Josh Groban circa 2007 when I saw him in concert age 18. 😂
and probably more that just aren't coming to mind right now.

Writeblr Intro!- Take Two
Finally got around to redoing my writeblr intro with more details and stuff and both me as a writer and my WIPs so lets GO
All About Mousie (Me!)
hi, i'm mousie or mouse, whatever you prefer! i am very new to all of this and have just this year gotten back into writing my OG wips. the power of supportive friends haha! i'm excited to show off my little people who i have made and put through the wringer. i hope you like them as much as i do and i am looking forward to meeting other writers and learning all about their little guys!
Stuff I write and am fond of: A lot of fantasy and found family. There is romance sprinkled in there too but it isn't usually the main focus. My writing can have some darker themes and I try my best to balance it out with suited humour and some good times for the poor characters as well.
I like to write about morally grey characters and queer themes and my work is primarily YA fiction. Vampires tend to work there way into any of my fantasy works and I love writing about high stakes.
Last of all, I adore worldbuilding and can, and will, ramble on and on about little stuff that probably won't even end up mentioned. It's FUN and that's all I care about <33
---
My (current) WIPs
Project UMBR-1: A YA fantasy novel set in the world of Asteria, a place split into four nations and four seasons. It centres around Aggie, a fourteen year old pureblood human who has been uprooted from her normal life in order to save the world from a virus-like curse that is infecting anyone with magic in their blood. Summary-
In a world of people with the blood of magical creatures running through their veins, fourteen year old Agnes Bells is devastatingly human. It is only when the planet of Asteria is consumed by a fatal Sickness that she realises this may not be the curse she once thought it was. Sent off by the seemingly omnipotent Order with only a reluctant vampiric guide, a destination, and a will to save her loved ones' lives, Aggie finds herself on a journey that peels back the layers of an unfamiliar past. She never expects to end up uncovering a plot that stretches much deeper than what the Order has let on. What truly makes a hero? Aggie wonders if she will ever find out.
Project Henneton (Just Otto): A YA story set in early 1800s England, centred around a boy raised in a circus who is discovered to be the kidnapped child of a viscount. It focuses on family bonds and strife, as well as a mystery and battle between trust and loyalty. Summary-
Otto has never known his birth family. Walking the tightropes with the roar of applause below and the bright support of his troupe, his real family, has made him never really want to. He has found all he needs and the faces of the parents who were never there simply don't fit into that. However, when a visiting nobleman claims that Otto is the renowned and missing Henneton baby, his content life on the road comes to an abrupt stop. Forced into the arms of a family he never wanted, Otto is determined to make his way back to where he belongs. Only, it seems that the Hennetons are not going to let go so easily and secrets written in blood leave the deepest stains.
Project Creator: This dark fantasy story focuses around the all-consuming need for truth and the desperate clinging to a family long gone. It centres around the four rulers of the four seasonal fae courts as they grapple with the return of a father who abandoned them and the sudden appearance of an unknown fae who shares his same golden eyes. Summary-
The Fae Rulers have moved on from the disappearance of their father, The Creator. Or, that's what they tell themselves. They host balls and parties of grand splendour and ignore the cracks in their courts, and the way they barely speak to each other without a barbed comment and political intention. It's easier that way. It's their normal, just the same as it has been for the past few millennia. It's a normal that is torn apart by the sudden reappearance of The Creator, armed with a distant smile and a will to pretend that nothing has changed at all. Emotions are tumultuous and unlikely alliances are formed as the four siblings fight between embracing this dream come true and digging for the truth behind their family's collapse. Perhaps the arrival of a mysterious fae with familiar golden eyes will give them the chance to have both their picture perfect family and the truth they seek. a modern ghost story - wip re-intro
finally, a re-intro for my first ever writeblr wip intro... waow how time flies.
taglist (i'm gonna be real with y'all, i lost track of the taglist and had to dig it up again--tentatively tagging the original taglist as well as folks i thought might be interested): @albatris @skitzo-kero @anexor @lychniscitrus @transmasc-wizard @chaieyestea @vacantgodling @kingkendrick7 @jezifster @manuscriptsatmidnight @fictionalbullshitter @astral-runic
(if you'd like to not be tagged in posts relating to this wip going forward, lmk!!! <3 and if you'd like to be added to the actual taglist, also lmk!!!)
synopsis: A Modern Ghost Story is the tale of the four members of The Cyclone Seekers, a group of semi-famous storm-chasers, and their harrowing adventures chasing after storms in Nebraska in 2006. On the way, they quickly come to learn that they have far, far more than tornadoes to worry about waiting for them in the storms. Something sinister is afoot, and their past may come back to haunt them in a very literal way.
setting: various fictional locations in Nebraska, United States, in 2006
genres: postmodern horror (?) with traces of comedy--fundamentally a road trip story, though, about healing and facing the horrors head-on.
vibes except it's not clear what these mean: late nights at sleepovers where no one wants to go to bed yet, a mason jar full of bottle caps, the highs and lows of a long road trip with your friends, strange messages on the radio in a voice you thought you'd forgotten, the past is always one step closer than it appears to be, the coppery taste of blood on your tongue, your heart pounding in your ears as the world roars around you, a group of queer adrenaline junkies, "therapy is expensive, but sitting in your car while it rains is free."
characters:
picrew: [link]
Tumblr media
Roach - 29 - they/them - 5'2"
Roach is not the face of Cyclone Seekers, as they find the idea of actually appearing on camera daunting. For the most part, Roach prefers to stay behind the scenes, most often handling their budget, equipment, and transportation, as well as acting as their cameraman. A lifelong smartass, they always say exactly what's on their mind and they're not particularly graceful or tactful. Why would they be, after all? Talking around the point only wastes time, and Roach hates to stop when there's important shit to get done.
Despite their blunt and often rude nature, Roach has a big heart deep down, and they care deeply for their fellow Cyclone Seekers, considering the others their best friends in the world. Roach doesn't have a lot of people in their corner, and they're steadfastly loyal to the end.
Tumblr media
Oliver Cox - 32 - he/him - 6'1"
Oliver, like Roach, is not the face of the Cyclone Seekers. Instead, he is the manager of their ViewTube channel and website, as well as the one who usually deals with the people side of things. He's very sweet and enthusiastic, and generally a very gentle man who hates to even raise his voice. While, like everyone else, Oliver has his moments of anger, he prefers to redirect this anger into something productive rather than taking it out on others.
This isn't to say, of course, that Oliver is an innocent child. He's had his fair share of hardships and struggles in his life. However, he believes wholeheartedly in the goodness of humanity and the world around him. And this extends to the team, especially Roach--despite their often prickly exterior, Oliver considers them a very dear friend and is very happy to have them in his life. He sees the best in everyone until they give him reason not to.
Tumblr media
Sydney "Syd" Ambrose - 29 - they/she - 5'11"
Syd is a friend of Roach's from college, an extremely anxious person who, at heart, has always wanted to leave their mark on history in some way. With their thirtieth birthday rapidly approaching, they want to do something great before the big day. This has, in part, reflected on their work with the Cyclone Seekers. As one of two hosts of the show, Syd is often in the spotlight, despite their severe anxiety about public speaking. When the cameras are rolling, their fear falls away, and they easily steal the show.
Aside from their ambition to do something great that lands in the history books, Syd has had a lifelong fascination with storms. The world of more traditional meteorology wasn't for them, so they've decided a more fulfilling career is to chase storms around and study them directly. It's working out so far, despite Syd's growing restlessness regarding the group's lack of mainstream success.
Tumblr media
Yara Key - 30 - she/her - 5'7"
Yara is the other host of the Cyclone Seekers, and she's the much more outwardly optimistic and outgoing one. Their bit on the show is that, though Syd is the anxious one, they're also first to jump headlong into danger just to get a good look at a tornado; Yara, meanwhile, is friendly and outgoing but also the first to hide. It's a good bit and one that brings her a lot of joy, though it does irritate her sometimes to have people assume she's actually a coward. Because she isn't--she's just not stupid.
Though Yara hasn't known the others that long, she's a loyal friend who cares about them all deeply, and her not-so-secret crush on Syd is something Roach teases her about rather frequently (to which she gladly responds by teasing them about their similar crush on Oliver). When it comes down to it, fame isn't important to Yara, but she has a genuine love for entertaining people. And if she can do it while educating them about dangerous storms at the same time? All the better.
Tumblr media
Vincent Cruz - 28 - he/him (questioning they/them) - 5'9"
Vincent Cruz is not a member of the Cyclone Seekers, nor does he have any particular interest in joining their little group. In fact, he thinks they're pretty ridiculous, and more than that, they're fucking stupid. He's grown up his whole life in a small town in Nebraska and knows all-too-well how dangerous storms like the ones they seek out can really be. They're going to get themselves killed, and they'll be lucky if it's quick.
However, Vincent feels an obligation to help them, or at least to make sure they can't put themselves or anyone else at risk with their antics. He isn't sure what makes him feel such a desire to protect them, but he insists it's not out of any care for them. They're just stupid. If he doesn't do anything, then they'll die. Simple math. (Ignoring the fact that they're his first friends in years, and they seem to genuinely like him for who he is when few others do.)
Tumblr media
Vulture - 31 - he/him - 6'2"
A mysterious figure from Roach's past, one that they, until now, were completely certain was out of their life forever. Vulture is cold and cruel and pretentious, seeing himself as quite literally better than everyone else. He loves to hear himself talk and wants everyone to think he's the coolest motherfucker in the room at all times, for better and for worse.
For the most part, he doesn't seem interested in Roach, for which they're grateful. However, he has been contacting them again for the first time in nearly ten years, asking to meet up again.

Introduction
Hello there!
I'm Aria, but you can also call me Ari. My pronouns are she/her and I've been an adult for several years now. I am also ace and english isn't my first language.
I basically made this tumblr because I have been hanging out on writeblr and whumpblr for about a year now and wanted to try my hand at writing something myself (also, having thirty tabs open with blogs I check for new posts is starting to get unwieldy...).
I am currently writing a kind of Superhero murder mystery, which is getting kinda whumpy at the moment. I probably won't post any longform stories until I am fully finished with them, so it might take a while for this to appear on my blog. I might try my hand at some drabbles in the meantime, though.
I probably won't be doing seperate main and side blogs for different kinds of writing because that would probably end up with me abandoning the site in frustration, so this is what you might expect to find here:
Superheroes
Fantasy
Whump? (currently in the process of finding out whether I can write something that I feel deserves the label)
My WIP
A Hero's Death
10 years ago, the hero Galactic was murdered, a murder that has gone unsolved ever since. Today, his longterm fan Michael is determined to finally uncover the culprit. Unfortunately, not everybody apprechiates having the past dragged to the surface.
The story is written in first person and is currently at about 7k words (which is farther than anything else I've ever written). currently has a finished first draft and a list of characters :D
Things I like
Happy endings
generally hopeful stories (even if they get bloody and painful in between)
Fantasy
Superheroes
Characters with a ton of emotional issues (especially in the self loathing department)
And somewhat specific to whump: captivity (especially the getting captured part and the getting rescued part), characters getting broken and then picking up the pieces, recovery arcs
Things I prefer to avoid
pet whump (especially the BBU)
Whump in real world settings/dystopias that are close to the real world
Slavery in real world settings
Dystopias generally
the bad guy wins/gets away with it (for actual bad guys, not in name only)
Things I am very picky about
Major character death
Slavery in general
Gaslighty/very manipulative characters
Oops, that got a bit long. Anyway yeah, that's me.

Author Ask Game
Tagged by the lovely @mariahwritesstuff here, @writernopal here, and @tisiphonewolfe here, @void-botanist here - thank you all💜
Gently passing the tag to: @starlit-hopes-and-dreams @vollzz @rbbess110 @flock-from-the-void @pheita @i-can-even-burn-salad (feel free to ignore if you've done it already)
1. What is the main lesson of your story (e.g. kindness, diversity, anti-war), and why did you choose it?
I don't write with the aim to teach a lesson. However, after figuring out the plot, I'll look back and see what message I can focus on. Usually, it's kindness, but I also hope to inspire people to find strength within themselves.
2. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding (like real-life cultures, animals, famous media, websites, etc.)?
A lot of real world cultures and history. In the case of my main setting, the amount of research into the history and culture of Central and Eastern Europe in the 18th century (especially the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth) would probably be enough to write straight up historical fiction, buuuut I like the fantasy elements, and I don't enjoy writing non-queernormative societies. So here we are.
The second instalment, The Truth Teller, is again in a fantasy version of the Eastern Bloc, and I get a lot of inspiration from talking to people who've lived there in the second half of the 20th century.
Finally, The Fulcrum is an exercise in worldbuilding. It started with a question, what would happen if evolution took a different path, and the dominant sentient species was most closely resembling birds. Other than that, I use it as an excuse to explore other periods in history - primarily late-Bronze and Iron Age.
3. What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness, help readers grow as a person?
The goal is different every time. E.g. for Days of Dusk:
In Gifts of Fate, Lissan is the MC, and he wants to survive without hurting anyone (the demon possessing him makes it difficult). What I want to achieve with him is to inspire people to persevere.
In The Prince's Shadow Erya is trying to kill Lissan, while dealing with complicated grief. My goal is to inspire people to move on, without preaching forgiveness (the two main characters still hate each other at the end).
In Prodigal Children, Lissan, Erya, and Gullin are the three MCs who are told with absolute certainty that something terrible will happen and it will result in war. They each try to deal with it in a different way. Erya aims to minimise the damage. Gullin thinks he can't do anything about it, so he focuses on protecting his loved ones. Lissan refuses to accept that it will happen at all. My goal as the writer is to showcase that each of these responses has its merits and can't be condemned from the get go.
4. How many chapters is your story going to have?
I'm a pantser, so I can answer it only for completed drafts. Gifts of Fate currently has 49 chapters, averaging just over 2k words each - with the total being 109k.
5. Is it fanfiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?
Everything I post on this blog is original. I don't plan to post the novel-length project online - I'm hoping to publish them traditionally. Some side WIPs may end up being posted here or on AO3 (the unnamed parody thingy that still needs a title), and my Silmarillion fanfiction can be found here (more to come).
6. When and why did you start writing?
I vaguely recall writing my first fantasy heroine self-insert story at the age of 11 or so, then Tolkien fanfiction when I was 15-18, then original fiction onwards. It started as an outlet to my creativity, but now it's to get some peace and quiet in my mind. If I don't put the stories down on paper, they keep buzzing in my head, being distracting.
7. Do you have any words of engagement for fellow writers of Writeblr? What other writers of Tumblr do you follow?
Words of encouragement? Just do it. Imperfect doesn't mean bad. Don't let 'perfect' be the enemy of 'good'.
I follow a tonne of writeblrs, so here are a handful of shoutouts: @acertainmoshke @writernopal @tabswrites @toribookworm22 @winterandwords @aether-wasteland-s

Life and blog update
Hello friends! It's been a while.
(If you have no idea who I am, here's my writeblr re-intro for reference).
It seems that my queue has been actively posting in my absence, but this is my first time actually posting in a few months.
My life has gone through major changes in the last few months, and while it's all very exciting it's left me with very little energy to do anything else, even to passively scroll through tumblr. Now that I've finally logged in for the first time in forever, I'd love to update you all on my life!
I graduated from grad school in May, and got my professional license in June.
My grandmother died in July.
I went to Scotland for two weeks in August! It was my first time in Europe, first trip I took on my own, and the first time that I met my writing partner @decantae in person. (I'm dying to talk about this, please ask questions).
I started my first real adult job 4 days after I got back from my trip.
It's been a few weeks since I've started working full-time. It's a really small but supportive working environment, and I'm really enjoying it! That said, I still haven't built up my stamina so I am exhausted all the time.
I've finally managed to get used to my job enough to find the energy to log into Tumblr and write this post!
Obviously thoughout all of this I've been writing bit by bit too. As it turns out, meeting your writing partner in person does wonders for actually writing, even when you're on a very active 2 week trip through Scotland.
Currently I have no real plans for regular posts because my stamina is still pretty depleted everyday, but I've been jumping onto Tumblr a lot more and I'm going to be around. It's my hope that I can start being active little by little, and start catching up with everyone here.
I hope that everyone has had a wonderful summer! Please come say hi and catch up with me, I'd love to hear what you all have been up to.
