do you ever wish it *was* allowed to monetize fanfiction? obviously i know all the otw rules about not and stuff and why but it just seems ... unfair, i suppose?

[standard disclaimer that I am not a lawyer and this is as far from legal advice as it gets]

The OTW / AO3 does not allow monetization on their site. This is for two reasons:

1) the legality of it is still somewhat unsettled in the USA where OTW is based and 2) (my conjecture), the people who started it wanted a place that was not part of the capitalist ecosphere

However, the OTW having this stance doesn't mean that's just the way things are. Lots of spaces outside of AO3 monetize fanfic. It's a robust tradition in some areas of fandom. It's just the fact that AO3 has become so huge that people assume AO3's Terms of Service are the same thing as... I guess, international law? A moral code of fandom? Who can say.

If you want to monetize your fanfic, go for it. Just don't mention it on AO3 and don't link out to your monetized platform from AO3. Not because it's illegal but because it's against the site's Terms of Service and if you get reported, your fic could be taken down.

Create a commission price list. Start up a patreon. Sell printed copies of your work. Whatever you want. Just don't talk about it on AO3. Not in your author notes. Not in the comments. Not on your profile.

If you decide to write fic for money, you'll run the risk of the original creator potentially suing you, but Anne Rice is dead now and I'm betting George RR Martin has calmed down in the last decade or so. These days, fandom is seen as part of the capitalist engine. It's free marketing. Even if an author or show runner or director really does hate fanfic, they probably won't actually say that near a microphone in case that hype machine disappears.

Thank you, I'm fine, just got bored with & never was deep into Tumblr. I'm busy working on one of the biggest business projects of my life. Haven't felt like posting, I'm not going to be doing much on here unless it's an update. I'll answer questions here & there when I get the time but that's about it for now. Also, thank you for the wishes, but we don't celebrate Thanksgiving. 😊 We'd been spending weeks decorating the house for Christmas with friends. 🎄

We're doing a few christmas trees, wreaths, some lights out front on the house that we haven't done yet, pool, wet bar, walkway & bushes, some other small decorations in the house upstairs. I did outsource the exterior lighting to a local crew, they supply all the lights & install them & take them down. A small fee but it'll save us a lot of time.

The main living area & entryway after taking Halloween & fall decorations down:

Thinking I want to switch the all green tree for a giant snowy one to match the ones with the polar bear & do all white decorations, like a winter wonderland theme, & get rid of the city for some icy shrubbery & mistletoe, might take all this down. My perfectionist side is agitated.

It's not cute or fun or adorable at all.

We should consider no longer doing that.

Agreed, but Genesis isn't effectively "bullying" Sephiroth until later on when he's severely warped and manipulated by the degradation process.

Him and Sephiroth being competitive towards each other does not equate to Genesis being a bully. It means that Genesis has ambitions and takes them VERY seriously. It also means that he's probably trying to inflate himself into being a worthy adversary. But as far as I can tell, he's not saying things that are specifically designed to hurt Sephiroth emotionally. Sephiroth doesn't CARE about being a hero. He OFFERS it to Genesis. Also, and this is going to sound very basic, but Genesis being cocky and arrogant while sparring is kind of the norm of how competitive guys often banter with each other. Dumb? Definitely. But it's true. What does Sephiroth do after Genesis challenges him for the role of hero? Basically roll his eyes good naturedly like "lol sure Genesis come fight me then". They're egging each other on as COMPETITIVE BANTER, not bullying. Sephiroth and Genesis are being dumb young adult men teasing each other, until the situation escalates and things take a sudden serious turn. Don't forget that Seph was inches away from legitimately hurting Genesis as well. Hell, in the original storyboard of the scene, he DID.

Now when Genesis starts verbally attacking Sephiroth later on after the degradation takes hold, the line begins to blur. Because Genesis' bitterness is tangible and real there, but the degradation process canonically twists a person's mind and emotions, thus making Genesis the worst version of himself. He intentionally uses methods designed to emotionally hurt Sephiroth, but his motives and emotions are far more questionable here because he also simultaneously sought to integrate Sephiroth (and Angeal) as well.

I don't condone bullying. I've faced bullying almost my entire life. Hell, the experiences I faced have left some pretty irreparable scars, scars that will never heal. But this ain't it, chief. It's just Genesis being.... Genesis.

Summary: General headcanons of the meeting, dating, first impressions, affection and NSFW (under the cut) of Donkey Kong and yourself. Enjoy!

Meeting

• DK first saw you when he passed the store you worked at.

• Although your store may have not been his first preference of shopping, he just couldn't resist talking to you.

• It was the way you served the customers, the way you welcomed everyone who came in, the way you smiled and bobbed your head to the music over the speakers.

• He just had to meet you.

• At first, once you weren't serving customers, he tried to chat you up by sounding smart about the products that you sold.

• Plot twist, he know nothing about them.

• You laughed slightly before offering to explain the products.

• He, of course, immediately said yes. You'd be talking to him, just him. He couldn't pass up the opportunity.

• Depending on what you sold, he was either really intrigued or really confused.

• Either way, he listened to every word you said.

• Almost every day, or whenever he saw you working, he came to visit you.

• Whether it was to ask the same question just to hear your voice, or to talk to you while the store was extremely quiet.

• He just wanted to hang out with you :)

• This was a regular occurrence until one day, he showed up at the same time that you finished your shift early.

• You noticed for the first time in these many weeks, he seemed to be acting a little different while also holding his hand behind his back.

• Fixing his tie and scratching the back of his neck gave it away.

• He revealed a bouquet of your favourite flowers!

• He surprised you by asking if you would like to go on a date.

• His heart skipped a beat when you smiled and said, "I'd love to."

• You don't think you've ever seen anyone more excited than he was that day.

Dating

• The first thing DK noticed was how relaxed you were when you weren't working.

• This caused him to make you his number one priority whenever you two hung out.

• You assured him that he didn't need to do that.

• He didn't listen.

• He loves taking you for rides in his kart while you simply take in the scenery.

• Surprisingly, going on picnics was one of his favourite kind of dates.

• Relaxing? Just the two of you?? In a secluded area??? Away from crazy crowds????

• Paradise.

• It almost always ended with you both napping.

• You would normally lean against a tree and DK would lay his head on your lap.

• Bonus for him if you play with his hair.

• Sometimes, you would surprise him with a date!

• The first thing you tried was to go and watch one of his fights in the arena.

• He spotted you in the crowd and practically fangirled.

• He fought harder, flexed more often, blew you kisses, and dedicated his win to you.

• If you like/don't mind PDA, he announced it to the crowd.

• "I dedicate this victory to my gorgeous lady, (Y/N)!" He gestured up to you. You've never been so flustered, but you loved it.

• If he knows that you don't like PDA, he told you after the match by whispering kind words in your ear.

• If you EVER mention something that you want to get, he'll get it for you (if he can).

• Hungry? He'll buy you food.

• Thirsty? Name a drink, he'll hunt it down.

• You see a toy you love?

• Be prepared, because the next time you see him, the exact same toy will be in his hands.

• Wherever you are comfortable to go, DK will take you there.

• He just wants to be around you. That's his perfect date :)

First Impressions

• The first time you were announced to the crowd, there was a mix of reactions.

• Of course, there were the crazy fangirls (and fanboys) who weren't huge fans of you.

• They wanted Donkey Kong.

• Too bad, because he wants you.

• The rest of the crowd loved you. Some even saw you as a celebrity.

• Donkey Kong's family wasn't sold immediately.

• DK's famous, it would be a lie to say he's never had a partner before. Majority of the time, they lasted a few days, as the person mostly wanted the fame that came with dating Donkey Kong.

• After the first week that you two had become official, his dad, Cranky Kong, was genuinely surprised and warmed up to you after the first few weeks.

• He saw how happy you made his son. DK had never smiled as much as he did when he was around you.

• After dating DK for a while, and becoming more comfortable around him and his family, Cranky Kong invited you over for dinner with the family more often.

• Sometimes DK didn't even know until he showed up at the table.

• He was ecstatic every time... until his dad stole you from him.

• "I invited her, she is my guest."

• "But she's my girlfriend-"

• "She's my guest. Anyways, (Y/N)-"

• Y'all are besties <3

• Diddy Kong was skeptical of you at first. Just like Cranky Kong, he didn't think you would be here long.

• And yet, here you are, months later, hanging out with Diddy, playing games in his room.

Affection

• For DK, PDA is a big thing for him. Holding hands, holding your waist, kisses, forehead kisses, making you flustered in public, the whole shebang.

• If you prefer to keep PDA to a minimum, he'll respect your wishes.

• But be prepared to receive a heap of lovin as soon as you get home.

• Give him a break, the man is touch starved.

• He is clingy. Very clingy. Especially with you.

• Hugs from behind, hugs from the front, he likes hugs.

• Expect a hand on you 24/7. He wants to make sure you're safe <3

• If you like physical touch, his hand is either around your waist, hip, or his arm is around your shoulders.

• If you're not a huge fan of physical touch, his hand would be on one of your shoulders or he's holding your hand.

• You hugging him when his arm's around your shoulders makes his heart SOAR. He'll freeze for a second before engulfing you in a bear kong hug.

• He just loves you.

• So SO much.

• Forehead touches are such a special thing between you two.

• It's like your souls connect. It's an intimate moment that you guys are able to share in public without it being too PDA.

• You were actually the first one to say "I love you", which was a surprise to you both.
