In today's live, she spilled the beans on some questions about her christmas holiday in Australia and the short getaway in Japan with Oscar. She couldn't help but gush about the incredible experience—her first time in Australia. Oscar played the perfect tour guide, showing her around his hometown and introducing her to his family. He also told us about their short getaway in Japan. Y/N explained that they haven't seen each other for more than two weeks as Oscar is already back to work—busy with meetings, simulator sessions, and prepping for the upcoming F1 season at the McLaren Technology Centre, and she have to return to her work and projects too.

Glad to see I'm not the only one in my Danny Ric feels after this weekend. Hope this helps! (sorry I didn't get round to writing it instantly, my afternoon was filled with landlord drama :/)

"Well, I'm okay,"

You dropped your head into your hands with a devastated groan, allowing yourself to slump back into your seat. Oh Danny no, not again, your heart broke for him and the dejection in his voice you just weren't used to. You couldn't believe it was happening again and that you were completely powerless to do anything about it.

Daniel had been your best friend for years, and whilst you adored and supported him you didn't know how many more times you could watch him slip down to the bottom of the F1 pack, getting shuttled between teams like he meant nothing. Not that you had anything against Lando and McLaren, but you couldn't believe once more that he was no more to them than a second driver, even the car came before him.

And now this, a crash in Monaco. His second home, his favourite track, the place he'd promised he'd get his redemption. Sitting virtually paralysed in your spot in hospitality watching him climb out of the orange car he'd been promised was his new family certainly didn't look like redemption to you.

He wasn't interested in anything that night. Usually, you'd hang out at his apartment all weekend for Monaco, but he told you he needed to stay in the garage to go over the incident. You'd seen this Danny before too, that no matter how shit of a situation he found himself in he was always blaming himself. He would stay up late, spend hours and hours pouring his heart and soul into working through problems, trying to find solutions he didn't need to. You were furious for him.

It was written in small black letters, but it was in the direct line of his helmet cam. Fuck 'em all. It was devastating, watching him become less and less of a priority of Lando and winning car, even when the younger driver was sick and not giving his best, but your chest warmed a little at Daniel's message. Maybe there was still that fight you knew and loved in him. Maybe your honey badger was in there after all.

But, like many things with Daniel, it wasn't meant to be. A low qualifying spot and a messy race with torrential rain and so many flags you lost the will to live saw him finish outside of the points once more. You were glad that he got home in one piece, at least, but you knew he wasn't. The second the last car pulled into a stop you all but ran to the McLaren garage.

He was there, sweaty and messy and as beautiful as post-race Daniel always was, but he was missing that huge smile and the light in his eyes. You didn't look once at the podium ceremony, your entire attention trained on Daniel who was staring at Sergio Perez with such deep heartbreak you didn't know what to do. He had to leave for press, reluctantly, so you pulled him into a quick hug and promised him you'd be over that evening.

And you did, after all the after-party arrangements had been made and Daniel's PR team had made their excuses you found yourself at the com of his flat, with a bag of far too much Chinese food in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other. He buzzed you in and you found him on the couch, staring fixedly at the TV, where the race highlights were playing.

"Don't watch them," you murmured, and he finally raised his head to look at you. He looked like a shell of your Danny. In sweatpants and a hoodie, his hair a fluffy, curly mess after his recent shower, but his eyes were red and you were worried he'd been crying. He didn't say anything, simply returning his attention to the TV. You decided to give him a minute, and busied yourself in his kitchen plating up the food and pouring two large glasses of wine.

He was still staring at the screen when you came back, so you picked up the remote and turned it off. He sent you the smallest smile you'd ever seen and a half-hearted thanks. You ate in silence, and he didn't touch the wine.

"I'm sorry about today,"

He dropped his head, refusing to even look at you. You were contemplating saying something else, but you didn't know if you'd make the situation worse when he moved toward you. His head found the space in your neck and he crawled into your chest like an overgrown child. Instinctively you wrapped your arms around him, tight because any contact with him was everything to you.

"Hey-"

"Please," his voice was thick, his accent almost unrecognisable with it "I just need a minute," you nodded, your chin just resting on the top of his head as you held him, rubbing gentle circles across his back. You weren't sure how long you stayed like that, or when exactly he decided to pull away and keep eating as if nothing happened, or when you found yourself watching him watch one of his terrible comedy movies. It was only when he didn't laugh at a single one of the cringey one-liners that you knew something was deeply wrong.

"Okay, Danny, what's going on? Because I've seen you laugh at this stupid fucking film from a hospital bed,"

The way he looked at you then was like nothing you'd ever experienced before. It was like he was staring straight into your soul, those big brown eyes of his so full of churning emotions that it made your chest constrict in rhythm. He sucked in a breath that was alarmingly shakey for someone so extraverted.

"I think I'm in love with you and I'm terrified,"

You couldn't help the surprised bubble of laughter that escaped you.

"Sorry, what?"

"I- you're my best friend and I love you. I'm so scared of losing this, us, but I can't sit here anymore and pretend I don't want more," his voice was too shakey to be your Danny, but the words were his. It was only then you realised his hands were wrapped around your wrists.

"You could never lose me," you murmured, speaking slowly to gauge his reaction as the confession you'd been pushing down for years came surging through "Not when I've been yours all this time,"

You didn't need to say those three words back, because he pulled you into a kiss so desperate it said them for you.

lots of dts converts who legitimately believe daniel was better than max and had to leave red bull because they were needlessly favoring max (basically the same shit you hear about lando and mclaren), lots of people who genuinely believe every other driver is evil and needs goofy daniel to teach them how to be good/fun people, lots of people who were literally willing to put their entire fucking moral code aside and harass the social media admin of a mental health charity because "oh my god, you allow mclaren to promote your charity when they just fired my fav multimillionaire driver? you're absolutely useless!!!" also like, checo fans will make shit conspiracy theories about max needing favoritism to win or beat his teammate or whatever, but Dan stans take conspiracy theories to a whole new level. most of the shit you've seen about how lando got into f1? completely inaccurate, started by a salty dan stan who couldn't accept him being outperformed.

like I do think, especially if the frontrunners are closer and checo doesn't improve his performance, red bull should look into replacing him, but trust me - replacing him with daniel would do NOTHING for the toxic teammate (remember, he left because he couldn't accept being 2nd driver to begin with) or the toxic fan dynamic the team is already dealing with.

The Lando and Oscar thing I agree with too, neither have done anything wrong at all. Oscar got a seat he deserved and Lando was racing which is what he is there to do yes McLaren fucked up calls for Daniel but that isn’t Lando’s fault and the amount of people wishing Oscar the worst season ever are just fucking annoying and constantly commenting under his posts are fucking weird.

I don’t mind Dan being here for PR honestly I don’t overly car but I wouldn’t want him in the car cause of his fans who have in all honestly turned me off him. They shit on Max, Christian and red bull so much, saying how now they have to support them, I’ve seen some people saying how they want Max or Checo to get sick but Dan left he did that. The thing with DTS did really annoy me cause Daniel must have known that Max was being unfairly treated but he was getting the best coverage cause he was portrayed as the fun, happy driver and anyone who upset him deserved to be abused. At least Max stands up for the others who got fucked over as well, he doesn’t ignore it. Like he is a grown ass man who has not preformed and as you said the social media admin got abused for literally nothing and it will always be funny for me to see them and other talking about mental health when they abuse Lando and Oscar and every turn.

I think he should have never left Renault and he fucked up and now he’s back because he didn’t want the Haas seat cause he doesn’t want to be at the back but he also doesn’t want to be second to Max??? I know we talk about Jon's dad defending Lando on social media a lot, but seeing Oscar's own relatives needing to defend him already when he hasn't even participated in an actual F1 race yet just makes me sad. NOT because he doesn't deserve the support and defense (he absolutely does), but just the differences in the things they have to defend them against. Basically every "Jon's dad" comment I have personally seen has been him debunking some "Lando sucks! He has no race craft and will never win a race" comment or some weird conspiracy theory claiming McLaren favors him and sabotages Dan. Very rarely was it ever actually attacking who Lando is as a person. Most of the comments I've seen Oscar's relatives respond to are personally attacking him and his morals - calling him a punk, a thief, talking about how he and Webber are schemers who betrayed Daniel, talking about how he betrayed his entire country, etc. I don't know, I honestly just feel sympathy for Oscar in how his welcome (or lack thereof) to F1 has been. He has had several influential people slandering him and who he is as a person since summer break, and now a toxic portion of a fan base slandering him and who he is as a person (and mostly just parroting the things those Alpine higher-ups said), and the way Oscar has carried himself through it all takes, imo, a lot of character and morals. I'm NOT going to get my hopes up because the universe has a weird way of crushing my hopes and dreams as a McLaren fan ( 💀😭 ), but I honestly hope 2023 is full of good things for both Oscar and Lando, and gives both opportunities to prove their doubters wrong. I have a feeling, even if it takes a while for him to adjust to F1, Oscar will prove himself to be a great talent as well, and I hate that both of these drivers have received so much frankly, unjustified and unwarranted hatred and vitriol, sent their way.

I've said it before and I'll continue to, this is why I don't look at comment sections and why I don't have twitter. The level of unnecessary venom aimed at drivers and teams is just upsetting and 96% of the time unwarranted (leaving that 4% for when it's validly calling them out on shit they should be called out for)

The way Oscar has conducted himself through this whole thing, literally since the Alpine tweet announcing him, has been extremely professional and he's 21. He's 21 and he's been more mature about it than some other people involved (looking at a particular OS in Alpine....) and I've been really impressed by it. I'm also glad his family is so supportive and looking out for him

Unfortunately he's replacing a fan favourite who brings with him a fan base that's half chill and understanding, and half willing to burn the entirety of the sport to the ground for slighting "their" driver - he was always going to get the nasty comments. Obviously that doesn't make it right or acceptable, but it isn't surprising to me at all and I'm glad that he seems to have a support system in place to help him manage it until it calms down. I'm hoping that with a certain other Aussie not leaving the sport entirely and seeming to get exactly what he wanted out of his RB deal, the hatred will relax a little next season

I can't get my hopes up too high, 21 into 22 has taught me NOT to do that lol, but I'm really looking forward to seeing Oscar at McLaren and seeing how him and Lando work together, and I'm hoping more for Lando's sake than the team's really that he doesn't have to carry McLaren basically alone again

Not in the best spirits to be honest

Warnings: no smut, just pure fluff and some minor angst.

After having his worst result of the season at the 2021 Styrian GP, Daniel is feeling frustrated and you fear he's going to isolate, making things harder on himself.

"Babe", you tried to reach for him when he walked past you on his way from the car to the hospitality trailers.

Daniel just dodged your hand and walked straight past you, Michael giving you a simpathy smile and following behind. You let out a breath and walked after them. As soon as you walked out of the back door you saw the dozens of reporters waiting for the pilots, 'that couldn't be a worse timing' you thought to yourself, but that's the job. The PR guy from the Mclaren team was already waiting for Daniel in the little area, having organized the lineup of reporters. You stayed a little behind while Daniel talked to them.

"I mean, I know this could be done another time", you commented with Michael, who was just standing by your side.

"Tell me about it", he answered nodding his head.

From what you could catch of the interviews, you knew he was really trying to be nice and not lash out on the poor reporters who had nothing to do with the situation, much like he would try to do with you or anyone else who tried to talk or cheer him up right now. The only problem is that his way of doing that would be by closing himself down and isolating for a couple of hours or days until he's suddenly fine to be the life of the party again. Call it what you want, but that's definitely not processing and there's no way that's healthy or not adding up to some big mess in the near future.

The last interview was over now. Daniel said his goodbyes and started to walk towards the Mclaren hospitality trailer, the PR guy, you, and Michael following suit behind.

"You know what? This can wait. We'll catch up later, get some rest mate", the PR guy said to Daniel as soon as you walked inside the trailer, and you wished you knew his name so you could thank him properly.

"Yeah, thanks mate", Daniel answered and disappeared inside his room.

"See ya", the PR guy said to you and Michael on his way out.

"Bye, thank you", you answered and then turned to Michael. "Hey, you think I could have a couple minutes alone with him?"

"Yeah sure, but he needs to stretch...", Michael began and you gave him a look. "Later is fine though", and walked outside. You went down the corridor and inside the room where Daniel was sitting on the bed taking off his shoes.

"Babe", you stopped in front of him, looking down.

"Don't", he said in a short tone.

"Alright, we don't have to talk... just please don't shut me out", you said in a soothing voice, putting your hands on the sides of his head and turning him to look at you.

"(y/n) I'm serious, I'm not in the fucking mood just fucking leave me alone, will ya?", he snapped at you in a hash tone, making you jump a little and take a step back, crossing your arms and looking away. That's exactly what you were trying to avoid: for the wall he built around himself to get so tall no one could reach him. You walked around the room, not knowing what to do with yourself, so you just looked outside the window.

"Alright...", you whispered to yourself.

He let out a breath and ran his hands through his hair.

"I'm sorry", he said looking up at you but you still couldn't look him the eyes. "Look, I... you know I didn't mean it, right?"

"Maybe it's best I just leave you alone", you said walking outside the room.

"Hold on", he said reaching for your wrist and stopping you.

"It's fine, honestly. I didn't mean to be one more thing on your mind, sorry. I should've given you some space", you tried to smile at him but deep down you knew there was only one way this 'space' thing was going and you didn't like where it was. To be honest, it actually brought tears to your eyes to think about it.

"I don't want space. Not from you", he said pulling you closer.

You stepped in between his legs and he hugged you, so you started to run your hands through his sweaty curls.

"Don't really want to talk right now though, ok?", he added.

"Okay", you said relieved. "You want to change this clothes so we can go home? Relax properly?" He just humed in response. "Maybe go yell on the top of the mountains?" He laughed at that and you could feel him smiling against your stomach.

"Yeah, let's do that", you laughed and stepped back, sitting on the bed while he got up and took off his shirt, getting a towel and walking towards the bathroom to take a shower.

After a couple minutes he returned to the room and you looked up from your phone. He had his pants on, but his shirt was bundled up on his left shoulder, while he dried his hair with the towel.

"I really thought we had it this weekend" He said casually.

"Huh?" You asked looking away from his abs. He catched you and smirked.

"I said I thought we had it. Practice went good, I've had worse qualy's. What happened today, the engine losing power, it was a control thing, my fault, there's no other way to look at it", you listened closely to him. "It's fucking frustrating cause everyone worked so hard and I just blew it", 'So much for not wanting to talk right now' you thought to yourself, but you were glad he was opening up, you could see him relaxing by the word.

"You know what happened?", you asked.

"Yeah, I think I do. Want to try it out on the simulator this week but honestly, I just wish I could go back on the track right now and test it out", he said while putting his shirt on.

"I guess it's a good thing you're coming back next weeked", you offered. "I don't mean to be that person, but think about it, could be worse. Normally, you'd have to wait a whole year to try the car in the same track and even then the car would be different, right?"

"Yeah...", he said really thinking about it. "You're right actually"

"I'm always right. You should use the privilege of having me as a privite consultant more", you joked and he smirked at you, shoving his stuff inside a bag.

"You want me to use you more?", he waved his eyebrowns at you and you rolled your eyes, making him laugh. It was so relieving to see him coming back to himself, but you wanted to make sure he wasn't just pushing his frustrations to the back, instead of dealing with them.

"Dan, you know I mean it right? You can trust me, with anything. I don't think there's a single thing you could tell me that I wouldn't do my best to help you deal with, even if just by listening", you said seriously.

"I know", he turned to look at you. "I'm just not a fan of the whining"

"Then don't whine", you said simply. "Like the stuff you said about blewing up for the team. That's ridiculous. You do nothing but work hard and they know it, it's just simply outside your control. Yet. And they see you working to get it right. Once you do, you'll be unstoppable. The team will be unstoppable, I mean. It makes them work harder too, I can tell. Aren't you the one who's always saying that it's like a clock engine? Give yourself a break, you're just a piece. A major piece, sure, but don't carry the whole weight by yourself", you said standing up and he stepped forward, hugging you. "It's not whining babe, it's us against the world alright? Think about it as emotional support, mind strategy", you smiled.

"You're really good at this 'pep talk' thing, ya know? Maybe you should be a motivational speaker", he said making you laugh.

"I'd have to know every member of the audience as well as I know you. Besides, my hour is extremely expensive. I'm not convinced you can afford it yourself", you smiled.

"Can I pay you in sexual favors?", he leaned in to try to kiss you.

"Throw in some massages and breakfast in bed, and you got yourself a deal mister", you answered against his lips.

thank you for saying what you did on that last ask about the fandom babying lando. this is not meant disrespectfully and is not aimed at that anon, it's meant in a general sense, but i wish people would stop doing it & projecting the image of this insecure, helpless, needy young boy on him. even from the little we see of him on screen & social media and not personally knowing him at all, it's obvious he is not those things and that he has a core of steel in there - they all have, however nice they may be, or they wouldn't survive in f1. for instance from things daniel has said in recent interviews, one of the things that has done him over this year & put him out of the sport is the mental side of things for him just as much as his physical struggles with the mclaren car. some fans really underestimate just how mentally tough & self-sufficient these guys have to be to do what they do, even though they have support teams around them (like lando has john & mark b & his parents).

lando is not a child, he's a grown ass man who is succeeding & thriving at the top of one of the most ruthless sporting environments in existence. even when he was shy & anxious by his own admission when he first entered f1, he never came across as someone who NEEDED support from his teammates (doesn't mean he didn't appreciate support they gave but there's a difference). if anyone's support was NEEDED (I use needed loosely), and i'm only going here on things he himself has said on streams & in interviews, it was mclaren giving him a safe environment to grow & be himself and also to talk about & work on his mental health without fear of rejection or ridicule, which anyone who has mental health struggles knows is so important. like most people in the world, he probably does draw a lot from his friendships just like his friends probably draw a lot from him in return - look what max fewtrell has said on streams about how lando is his ride or die & how much lando supported & helped him when fewtrell was at his really low point in the last couple of years. carlos has hinted a few times both last year & this year that he & lando are each other's sounding board in f1 and from the very little we see of it, their friendship appears to be very much mutually supportive. and though we don't know if this is actually the case, for all we know daniel may well have drawn on their friendship/kinship/whatever when things were bad at mclaren for him this season, as most people tend to draw on those immediately around them when times are rough, even if it's just to have a laugh with someone and lighten the load for a little bit.

i find it weird that we have all watched lando quite clearly mature & branch out this year, throwing himself into & publicly sharing new hobbies without giving a shit whether people think he's good at it or not, visibly more confident & comfortable voicing what he wants to say in front of the camera even if he still ties himself in knots or gets himself in trouble at times (his speech about seb on sky after the abu dhabi finale was just wonderful & such a sign of how mature he's becoming) and him very much thriving in the proxy-team leader role at mclaren. and yet some people still view him as a needy insecure child. sorry for the rant, i've been wanting to say this stuff for ages as it's something that really bugs me.

There's not a lot I can add to this but

- Lando is a snippy, sarcastic, elbows out little gremlin now and I love that for him, the comments he's made to shitty interviewers, or said in response to certain comments from other drivers (looking at two in red recently ngl) show he's not there to take bullshit lying down and he's standing up for himself

- Lando speaking up about mental health the way he did, especially as a young male in a high performance sport, was amazing of him and I'm glad he's only been even more encouraged by his fellow drivers doing the same (the way he looked to Seb and Seb gave him that proud little nod as if to say 'we all know you've spoken out about it and that's great')

- His maturity when being asked about his long contract with McLaren, the conviction he has and the dedication to the team even when comments from interviewers have been doubtful - more of him sticking up for himself and his decisions

- His entire interview with Sky and George and Seb, and his little speech when asked about what Seb's done for him and the sport and young drivers - I was so so proud and emotional because he said about needing to find his voice and he is and he's done it on his own, not being babied to it, but he's grown as a person and done it himself

Don't be sorry, I've said I'm always open to lend ears to rants, but it's something I agree on. I may look at him and go "baby, baby boy, he's so cute" but there's the full acknowledgement that he's a grown man (pretty sure I've even spieled before about his evolution from 2019 Lando to now)
