So I've been carving my way through Act 1 of Baldur's Gate 3, and I can't help but consider how a similar romance mechanic would be absolutely perfect for Horizon 3.

Divisive concept, I'm more than well aware. But seeing the way it's already being implemented with fidelity and elegance and depth in the opening of BG3 gives me the perfect image of how it could work in Horizon 3.

To be perfectly clear, I'm talking specifically about the romances. We already know that Guerrilla is not pursuing branching narrative paths for the Horizon series, the way BG3 and Mass Effect do. However, I want to point out that the romances of BG3 don't alter the central narrative the way other choices do. They provide this lovely and emotional character depth and player engagement/agency without affecting the main story or outcomes.

Each is their own kind of side plot, for flavor and flair and to add a sense of romantic connection to the experience, should the player want to pursue that. And that in and of itself is not unprecedented in the Horizon series: the Desert Clan commander quest not only forces a choice, but that choice then affects the side quest that follows.

Imagine it! A more refined Base mechanic, in which Aloy can take a few of her buddies out with her on quests (since the point is that she's Not Alone Anymore), and begins to get closer to whichever potential LI the player wants to pursue. The Base/Camp would be a domestic/cozy reprieve for her, with her LI and her friends. You know she deserves it.

Another thing I want to be clear about: there's always the argument that Aloy isn't a blank slate character, therefore romance choice wouldn't work for her story. And sure, Tav is. However, BG3 also allows you to play as premade origin characters--basically, you can play as Shadowheart, Karlach, Wyll, etc. They maintain their backstories and personal motivations while still being able to romance another party member. (I cannot WAIT to smooch Karlach during my Shadowheart run.) The chosen romance doesn't dilute or change the Player Character's preset characterization or narrative outcomes.

I just. I cannot see how a purposeful romance choice mechanic would be anything but additive to Horizon 3. I cannot see how it would cheapen Aloy's development. Personally, I've had a huge issue with the way the writing in HFW and beyond has very much Told, not Shown. This would remedy that somewhat by adding another level of more active participation than we've seen--and would give the player a chance to engage meaningfully and personally with a small (but emotionally-impactful) part of the overarching story...rather than being told exactly how to feel about certain characters, which is a HUGE pitfall over which the series has stumbled and is still stumbling.

Bottom line: a romance mechanic like BG3's would fit the parameters of Horizon's narrative structure near-perfectly. It'd be an amazing tool to allow the player to feel involved and engaged in another layer of Aloy's story (not, I repeat, the outcomes of the main narrative). To have a hand in shaping that would be an absolute boon for emotional and personal investment in Horizon's themes of hope and connection and growth and belonging.

I’ve been skimming through fluff fics lately, and a fun little realization popped up in my mind. It’s not often people talk about the downs in a potential relationship with the twst boys. For the sake of a more realistic perspective, I’ve got to ask. Who do you think is most likely to unintentionally hurt Yuu and why? - 🦐

Hello my shrimpy friend! So nice to hear from you, hope you're doing well. Fan fic in general isn't very focused on portraying the negative parts of a relationship because it's a form of escapism. People don't necessarily want to picture themselves in a bad spot in a relationship if they already are in one in real life, yk?

That being said making mistakes is part of any relationship so I do have some thoughts! They/them used for Yuu as always, this is angst so proceed with care.

Azul- he doesn't have the healthiest mental framework surrounding friendships, and you do need to be friends with your SO to have a solid relationship. An actual relationship with Yuu would probably have a bumpy start as you two try to feel out what the dynamic is actually supposed to be. Take it slow and everything will be fine, but there might be some hurt feelings along the way. And a lot of assumptions from other people about your relationship that don't help either of you.

LEONA- he's a rude ass bitch who doesn't have great manners I am so sorry to this man. To be fair though I think a lot of that rudeness would be something that would take place before the actual relationship, because I firmly believe if it's pointed out to Leona by his partner that he has communication issues he's more than willing to work on that with them. He would be a good boyfriend! It's just all the conversations up to the actual going out that's painful and might ruin what he wants before he actually gets it.

Riddle- so I don't think Riddle's treatment of Yuu is what might hurt them exactly, his issues as always have to do with his mother. He needs to figure out exactly how he wants to deal with his childhood trauma and his adult relationship with her, but that's going to take a lot of time and personal growth. Mrs. Rosehearts seems like the type to try and continue running her son's life after he graduates so I can't see her treating Riddle's partner well. Going no contact with an emotionally abusive parent is really hard for their children to do, Riddle needs love and support but the journey can be emotionally draining for the person giving that support.

Sebek- again with the family thing. His parents sound like wonderful people but his Grandfather seems to only like his grandchildren because they're half fae and still actively hates his son in law. I can't see him treating Yuu any better, which I could see being very draining since Sebek and his grandpa are very close. It could also be a chance for Baul to change a bit, which would be nice.

Cater and Idia- I'm making them share a spot because similarly to Leona I think the major hurts would be caused pre-relationship, but unlike him I don't see their communication issues as being something that would affect the relationship in the same way going forward. Cater has a lot of insecurities and can be a bit shallow, but he is a good friend so once he accepts Yuu as a safe space to speak openly and honestly I don't see them as having too many issues. Idia is also shown to be very open and honest with Ortho, his self hatred, temper, and inferiority/superiority complex just get in the way of him letting anyone else in.

In general, a lot of the twst guys have communication issues which is something people can work through, but would still cause some pain. Something to think about I suppose σ(￣、￣=)

Okay, but when I said it was going to be angst I meant it lol. Here there be Bucky Whump sorry gang (am I sorry? Maybe). This is from A/B/O fic's England Arc, and I guess you can tell which mission it's after.

Brady finds him on the wing of Buck's fort later that night. The plane is in pieces, but the wings can still take Bucky's weight. This far from the other men, Bucky can stew as much as he wants, be as selfish in his grief as he wants. Brady doesn't say anything, just sits down next to him to stare out into the sand.

Bucky can feel how Brady's scent tries to wrap around him, a blanket of comfort and care, and he'd be grateful if he wasn't so filled with grief and guilt. For as much as he'd tried to put on a brave face for Gale and the others, the grief is so thick he can barely breathe.

Curt's gone. He's gone.

He doesn't even know where Curt went down. No one was able to put it in the logs. Wasn't that the kicker? Bucky had been so focused on Gale, checking on him, making sure he was there. He forgot about Curt. He doesn't know how he's going to go forward. Curt had been there for him, had listened to him about everything he kept hidden. Now Bucky couldn't even say where he'd lost his best friend.

What's he supposed to do now?

Brady bumps their shoulders together. Bucky can feel how Brady's scent is still trying to combat the grief clogging Bucky's own, and he shakes himself. He needs to get back up. He's not the only one to lose someone today. He needs to be there for the pack. He has to take care of them.

When Bucky goes to stand, his vision flickers in and out, like a bad radio connection. He shakes his head trying to clear it, but it doesn't do much beyond make him dizzy.

"Bucky?" Brady's voice sounds distant which is odd. Bucky was sure the other was right next to him just a moment ago. "Bucky, you alright?"

"I'm," Bucky pauses breathing through a sudden bought of nausea. He opens his eyes trying to make out Brady's blurry figure. He hears Gale shout his name from somewhere below. "I'm fine."

He takes a single stumbling step forward, but hands stop him before he can tumble off the wing. The movement brings back the nausea.

"Like hell you are!" Brady barks still sounding so far away. Bucky thinks he hears more people shouting, but when he closes his eyes, he can't open them again. He thinks he hears Brady screaming, but he can't make out the words.

I'm going to be honest I remain unconvinced that there has ever been a time when people weren't using the language of the former when actually expressing the latter. The purpose of a system is what it does. If there is a specific framework of post designed to unperson a specific kind of hypothetical "bad person", there is no scenario in which that framework isn't going to be abused.

Ultimately the term "callout" is too vague to even have a cohesive stance on though. I've seen it used to describe anything from mild criticisms to whole tomes of vitriol explicitly designed to get someone killed.

I don't know. These days I don't even feel comfortable mentioning people that have actively harassed me by their usernames at the risk of getting hate spread their way. I can't really imagine the appeal of singling out a person and then posting about how much they suck. I don't even care if the person they're calling out does suck. I just don't feel safe around anyone that posts like that.

Finally finished my weird hanging painting thing (originally a secondhand partially-done 'paint by numbers' kit that I found at a thrift store and kept to repurpose lol)! Imagery somewhat based in my own worldbuilding projects, and text written in my constructed language for one of my fantasy species, but also vaguely inspired by old tapestries and illuminated manuscripts and etc. I've never been great at neat clean patterning or text, but it looks cool from afar, and I always enjoy making "props" or things that are somewhat like real objects that might could exist in my world. :0

Here's what it was originally! I probably didn't have to actually have a river running down the middle because it further makes the composition of the whole thing weird (various connected yet separate locations and things happening, instead of one unified event being portrayed), but I wasn't sure if I'd be able to fully cover up the already existing paint that was there.. and I can also kind of justify it by going with a more "all the imagery is just symbolic so it doesn't have to make exact sense" approach lol.. How is one half of the grass green and the other is suddenly snowy? shhhh.. it's not literal.. shhh...

Made a vague sketch, then painted over it, and then added more distinct lines in black pen. Center image first and border second.

The very last thing was the text, which actually took forever to translate because my conlang is still only like.. partially done, and some of the grammar is not worked out exactly how I would like it to be, so a few sentences I had to think about for a long time before just going "eh, this is probably not how I would do it if I considered it more, but I'll go with it for now" lol . I also am not entirely satisfied with all of the characters for the writing system, but again, it's good enough for a quick project, it doesn't have to be 100% accurate and perfect because it's a fake language that nobody knows anyway lol.

I thought about breaking down the text and translation here like I have for some of the tidbits of Avirrekava (the language) in things I've posted in the past, but I think it would take too long and is not interesting to anyone but me ghghj, so for the sake of getting the post out quickly, I shall not spend an hour typing All That lol.

The general jist of the writing though is that it's just about the Avirre'thel being cast out from the other elves, after abandoning their magic for immortality as a means to truly attain perfection (an important concept in elven culture), the usual, blah blah blah, but how it's Actually A Good Thing, because the gods are wrong and immortality is Cool actually and they like the shitty frozen lands they were sent to, so it's fine that everyone else is being a Hater about it lol

Lastly, here's a few photos outside in the sun to TRY and show the gold detailing actually shimmering or showing up! It really doesn't come through in photos, but there's plenty of little golden spots to highlight light or Importance.

Mostly the fire, the pink sparkle that represents magic, the red drop that represents blood, the light behind Inaashi's hands and head (common symbol for the elven religion/one of their main gods, shout out to anyone who read the ancient elven religion post and recognized that lol), the sun, and the symbol for the Avirre'thel/country of Navyete at the very top. I did a few other gold bits, but they're not highlighted because they're Significant, more just that it looked more symmetrical to have some gold on the border too lol.

Other things of note: The animals are not actually significant to Avirre'thel culture really, I just wanted to put a cat and a bird because I like them lol. (I also wanted to have a few funny looking creatures, as I was slightly trying to go with the 'in some old medieval painting the anatomy and perspective is very weird' vibe, though I think some of the other parts of it look too Normal to pull it off entirely). Same with the four leaf clover, which means nothing in their culture - but these are the only areas where stuff was just added self-indulgently .

Bligabata (giant cabbage that grows along rivers in Navyete) making an appearance! The architecture of the building IS based on actual concepts for ancient elven/older Avirre'thel architecture and metalwork. The Avirre'thel who's turning away from Inaashi/elves/magic and collecting blood, is doing so in a Special Bowl, as is part of their culture (collecting it in the hands, or just in a normal vessel would be disrespectful, they have Specific Bowls which is the only thing blood can be kept in, etc.).

The figure that represents Jhevona (and thus, a closer connection to magic, celestial imagery, etc.) is in weird ugly teal, which is not necessarily a color or design associated with them, as I don't have much common culture (like clothing) worked out for Northern Jhevona (who the avirre'thel would have come into contact with) yet, BUT everyone else is in more Typical colors (a northern elf in green, Inaashi in lavender + white + blue, an Avirre'thel in darker purples and reds).

Some things, like the four figures in the corners, and the two people + fish in the stream, do not currently have a meaning, but in-world they would.. Like, I could make up lore for how they're culturally significant and it would be true because I am god of the world, but I don't have anything currently. But just know.. they DO mean something, I just haven't decided it yet, maybe kind of fill in as I go, come up with a meaning later lol. Probably along the lines of an old myth from the ancient elven religion, a story, etc.

I don't know, probably other stuff, but that's my Trying To Keep It Short rambling for now lol. I'm just glad I finally finished this! For how vaguely sloppy it is up close (everything being completely freehanded, only used rulers once when doing the initial sketch and lining where the border should be + my hands are shaky + the canvas is bumpy + my handwriting is scratchy and terrible + etc. etc.) it still took a REALLY long time, even when not trying to make it all perfect. Especially if including the text translation + writing, which took like 3+ hours itself.

Maybe all the asymmetry/lack of things being centered is NOT because I was too lazy to measure anything, but is actually because in-universe, it's a practice illustration made by some young apprentice who has to work on little canvases for years before he can be trusted will a full sized mural or tapestry. It's his first week on the job! of course he's uncoordinated! don't laugh at him!!! lol

I saw the fnaf movie and what can I say... This was one of the best days of my fucking life.

God I am so so happy. I saw a lot of people in cosplay at the movie theater and it was so cool, in fact I also went with a closet cosplay that I was able to do at the last moment!

Everything that happened in the movie was everything I could have wanted and more. Me and my past self from 2014 were not expecting this at all, and I really thought that nothing so shocking to me was going to happen. And here I am, not believing everything that just happened.

It was truly an experience that I will never forget just like all those beautiful memories I have with this game.

my life would be nothing without them <3

I'm so happy

The child we produced: Outgoing extraverted social butterfly, most popular child in her class, best friends with everyone, invited her whole class to her party and they ALL CAME and she was so happy to see every one of them, led them all around the playground like the Pied Piper just by existing, several meltdowns were had over who got to sit next to her

I don’t know how that happened.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad it’s that way and I’d rather it be this way than her being terrified and lonely like I was (am?). But it’s very confusing and hilarious in a cosmic sort of way. This kid wants to go everywhere and do everything with everybody, and me and her dad are just there like an “internal screaming” meme.

Anyway, my perfect little muffin is 4 now, and even though a slow month with her involves more social interaction than I used to get in 6 months on my own, I am so delighted to be her parent and hope she never stops being so lovely to everyone that they brave a desert summer just to come hang out because she asked them to. <3

Having ADHD but only having it just enough to get the like 2 symptoms left out of every conversation about ADHD fills me with an apathy that has no practical solution. Rolling up to the ADHD conversation like "Some days I can't focus and everything pisses me off and the best I can do is lay on the floor with music on and scowl at the ceiling until it stops because if I don't then I'll be mean to other people because I have no patience when I get like that" just makes everyone side-eye you because they immediately jump to the conclusion that you want to commit unspeakable acts of violence.

But a lot of people don't know that this is something people with ADHD can experience. The only time I ever see it mentioned is when I go out of my way to find research on it...

#textpost #I'm actually in a really good mood right now and had a really good day but I've been thinking about this for a while #Like I've been to a behavioral specialist this IS ADHD albeit a milder form of it but NO ONE ever talks about the Grumpy Threshold™️-#-in conversations about ADHD. It's always about how it makes people loud and easily excitable #Which are also symptoms of ADHD and I recognize that those symptoms are significantly more common than the main ones I experience #But it would be nice if there was more awareness about the cranky side of it lol #It doesn't make me physically violent or an absolute asshole it's just like being annoyed by everything cranked up to 11 #Turbo grumpy. My thoughts on Way after three episodes can be summed up by:

He "loves" Babe so much that he's out here messing with his mind and causing him to lose races. And, if the preview is to be trusted, he learned nothing from Babe losing in this episode and is gonna keep up the mind fuckery and then he's gonna crash. He's doing all this, possibly has been for 10 years, and Babe still doesn't want him. Give it up Deelisish!

I was sitting around with my sketchbooks trying to choose who to draw and realized I’d never drawn Finarfin before. Which makes sense because I don’t draw much of what went on in Aman, but still I decided it needed to be remedied because he’s a great guy.

(mgv) wilson in pre-rut and still working but it being more and more obvious to the ducklings (who are not in tune with his cycle like that freak house is, thanks) because he starts following house around more than usual, sometimes even getting physically closer to him when it's not necessary (and house lets him most of the time too. not all the time though. if he gets especially annoyed he'll snip at him and wilson backs off with his head ducked which is..... atypical pre-rut alpha behavior but also their friendship is atypical so whatever)

it's so bad sometimes they even catch wilson smiling while he pretends not to notice while house steals his wallet so he can empty out the vending machine for his favorite snacks. later when they're alone in house's office, house pulls out a couple bags of wilson's favorites he got while he was raiding the machine and tosses them over. the look on wilson's face is so dopey that house can't help but snicker and tell him to put in his notice of leave for his cycle soon because he is really swimming in it now

#house md #hilson #someone anyone please talk to me i'm gonna blow UP #wilson getting downright sickening around house ugh #still snarks back still lets him win when they bicker about nothing that matters he's just also a little goopy with it #and house knows what's going on but it's so funny to watch him be so obvious he lets him stick around #which is a dangerous game really since if they're not careful wilson can send him into pre-heat too #lbr they've done it back and forth to each other before #usually on accident unless one of them is also feeling vindictive #because obviously they'd weaponize their own biology against each other #actually speaking of i bet house would do that to some patients too if it proved his diagnosis of whatever #medical malpractice!!!! we're back in business boys i'm writing for the show now
