House's problem isn't that he lacks empathy. It's that he has too much. He cares to the point that it's self-destructive. That's why he avoids interacting with patients like the plague because he knows that he'll care. He knows that he'll get attached, and he can't cope with that kind of vulnerability. House can empathize with and understand people so well that if he didn't constantly fight against it, he'd lose himself. He insults people and hurts people, and pushes them away as a survival tactic. Nobody spends that much time trying to convince people they don't care when they actually don't care. He has experienced so much heartbreak and abuse that he's learned his only way to survive is to push people away. He's not just trying to convince others he doesn't care. He's trying to convince himself, too. And he fails every single time. Because Gregory House loves people. He relates to them, he cares about them, and he feels vast amounts of empathy for them. He never gives up on patients, and he'll try to convince you that it's just because he loves puzzles, and while he does, it also is because he cares. When you experience that much empathy for people, it saturates every single part of your life. Every interaction you have becomes painful and overstimulating. You start to lose yourself. House is desperately trying not to drown in the minds of others. His ability to understand and care about people is what makes him a great doctor, but it's a blessing and curse. So he bites and claws and avoids and fights because it's all he can do to stay afloat. He's trying to constantly battle experiencing the emotions of others, on top of his own emotions, all at the same time.

Hey WHAT if I made your turtles [shiny emoji] slightly more scientifically accurate [shiny emoji]?

I'll start with the Disaster Twins.

Alright, so Leo is a red-eared slider turtle. At first I was skeptical about his blue shell and horizontal marks, but then with some research, I found red-eared sliders aren't always just the most gorgeous green - I found this lil blue gal in the pic! - AND their stripes CAN have some wiggles that make horizontal lines (first pic tart has one on its shoulder). So I didn't have to change those!

I did give him some actual stripes and plastron marks (there is no red-eared slider without those, plus they can be blue too so it suits him) though.

And a long thin tail because I'm okay with Trans Leo (male slider have short thick tails like in pic 2)

It was hard to figure out which type of spiny softshell Donnie was at first, but I was being dumb. It's obviously the Northern.

I started this whole project to fix Leo and Donnie's markings and DANG IT THEY'RE NOT INACCURATE- Spiny softshell turtles can have purple marks just fine (I'm pissed) so I let him keep his cool tech markings and just fixed his plastron. Picture one is a softshell's plastron, in case you hadn't realized. I know I took a while.

And!! Spiny softshell turtles have U-shaped nostrils. That's very important.

The hands and feet I gave Donnie are a little different from all the others' because so are spiny softshell turtles'.

But I think it'd be comical if the guys still couldn't tell the difference between the twins without their color coDING

OH, YOU MUST HAVE NOTICED LEO'S PERFECTLY FINE AND RAPH DOESN'T HAVE A HOLE IN HIS SHELL! That's because those are gonna be all in that time gap between the end of S2 and the movie.

Zubeia said they couldn't take down Aaravos, so they had to plot to trick him by waiting for him to let his guard down. So they waited until he was relaxed, probably with someone he trusted, and then they imprisoned him.

It's fucked up! Of course he's going to come back wanting revenge because he's been in solitary confinement for 300 years with nothing else to think about, and he got fucked over. What made them think they could hold him forever when he's that powerful anyway?

Not going to lie, I’m surprised the fandom isn’t eating up the new tone shift and characters’ struggles in ep5. Maybe I’m not looking in the right spaces but fandoms usually love that stuff.

I KNOW I mean the amount of angst art that was made prior to the episode really made me think people were gonna take everything from the new ep and run with it. Though that's not to say people didn't. I've seen plenty of people discuss what happened in the episode (especially regarding John and his daughter/his family in general,, people were going insane over that and I get it like we're getting deeper into what happened to him and his family which I'm also super interested in. Plus seeing his photos in Ignacio's house really got people discussing his connections/past with the cult and how there's such a specific focus on John).

In the past it had been easier to make him gifts, but Anabella tried nonetheless. “Merry Starlight, Miles.” And she nudged the box closer to him; quiet noises escaped from the holes she had made into the box’s walls. Inside the box was a chocobo chick in white colour.

“I had to think of you and your companion when I saw it. It is friendly and likes to be pet,” she told him and thinking back on his loyal beast had pushed the urge to give him the chance of a new bond — besides it was not as if she wanted to take care of it or even sell it. Where she had even gotten the chick from, Anabella would never tell.

For some odd reason, the thought of Anabella showing up in his room for a change had never crossed his mind -- leading to the man stopping just beyond the threshold. Not only did his expression make plain just how surprised he was to see her, but if that wasn't enough, he very nearly jumped because of it.

Miles was fixing to curiously inquire as to whether or not she needed help with something, but that same curiosity was turned to the box instead. The holes in the sides of the box already implied that its contents were alive, but those tiny little sounds...

The littlest of cheeps. He knew what it was before her explanation, and before he had lifted the lid from it, yet the sight of the chocobo chick -- its plumage the same snowy white as House Rosfield's former royal chocobos -- still drew a sharp gasp from him.

"..Eleftherios..." His beloved companion had been cut down so abruptly right in front of him at Phoenix Gate, and it was only now that he realized that he had never stopped to truly grieve that loss either. Of course the Cursebreaker knew full well that this baby was very much not Eleftherios, and he would neither seek to replace his old friend with this one, nor try to force this one to grow up to be similar to Eleftherios. No, he would love him as he was, whoever that ended up being.

With the same care and tenderness that he had once upon a time lifted and held their sons with when they were infants, Miles picked the chick up from its temporary home and held him close to his chest. His eyes squeezed shut in an effort to hold back the tears that burned at the corners of them.

"Hello there, my new friend," Miles spoke warmly to the cheeping chick while he began to stroke along the bird's downy head. "Hmm... What do you think of the name "Elpis", little one?"

When the man's gaze lifted back to his unexpected visitor, that same warmth was offered to her through his smile and his eyes -- even if the latter did still glisten with a few tears. "Thank you, Ana. He's perfect."
