Hi hello I just popped by to tell you just how much I absolutely LOVE your art. The dynamic poses, the color, your shapes, you’re very much an inspiration to me for my own art. I was curious if you’d be willing to share your own inspirations/process in drawing? No need to if you don’t feel like it though. Again, thank you for sharing your art with the world.

Gosh, I'm not sure where I'd even start for that...

I don't think I can get into process atm because it changes so much in such tiny ways all the time. I have a basic skeleton of a process, but the rest is all over the place.

As for insperations:

I follow many many artists online and have picked up many small things just from looking at their work and trying to "reverse engineer" their process in my head.

I've noticed I tend to subconsciously "study" artists just by thinking "how do I draw this? Oh this artist drew it that way! Lemme try..." and I do that many many times while drawing.

Example: I look at the way an artist draws hands, then I look at my own hand and try and mimick the position in the artwork.

I study both and try to connect the dots between them. I feel the way my hand moves and the way the bones and muscles flex and relax.

I try and draw broad shapes, then the underlying mechanics of the hand, then I finish things by drawing what we actually end up seeing on the surface.

I dont draw the bones and muscles of a hand and then the skin just to be clear! I just try and keep them in mind as a draw the outlines.

Like a sculpture having a "skeleton" made of two bits or wire. I don't draw the skeleton, I draw the rough blueprint of where everything goes in quick simple lines. Then I build the "clay" on top.

I don't go that in depth every time but it helps to stop and "be more considered" if you have the time and energy.

Now that I think about it, watch sculpting videos!

It's a very similar process to drawing but 3d instead of 2D! I recommend clay sculpture but I'm sure 3d modeling has similar principles too, even if a very different approach overall.

Here are some channels I recommend:

For cute character dioramas with ridiculous fidelity while being very stylised

For impressive fake food that really shows just how much of an illusion art is

For amazing Dino statues with an eye for detail and convincing naturalism

For 2d artists I follow current professional and/or hobby artists, or even old masters who's work is archived in artbooks and social media accounts. All ranging a wide variety or styles, cute, horror, cartoon, realist, ect... and most importantly, the styles wich aren't as easily definable.

The variety of influences is great! As long as you figure out how to pick and dissect the elements that drew you to the work and how to apply your findings to your own work.

My biggest inspirations as a kid where animation (Disney, pixar, ghibli, ect...), manga, Belgian/French comics my dad had as a kid.

I didn't have the patience or means to learn to animate, but these comics had so much life and motion in their panels! I always found American comics really stiff and more difficult to read because of the detail and "realism". I know American comic art can be very expressive and fluid, but for my undiagnosed eye/brain issues...

They where literally easier to read.

That comic cover takes me a good few seconds to dissect and process, whereas the two examples above it are instant.

I'm terrible at studying from life due to my poor eyesight and spacial awareness issues, also I have ADHD so, not only is the information my eyes are giving to my brain suboptimal, but my brain is also terrible at processing and reconstructing that information.

Also tracing is a valid way of studying btw, that's how I learnt as a tot and it can be great to try and reverse engineer a finished peice and break it down to it's construction.

Obviously it's not the same as building something from scratch but we're talking within the realms of practice.

I also started trying to "re-learn" some art fundamentals in ways that work better for me, and it's been massively helpful.

I'm already working with fuzzy simplified abstractions of the world around me, so it's horrible trying to see accurately and THEN re-simplify it onto paper.

So something that has helped a lot and I mean A LOT with teaching my brain art basics in a digestible, step by step way, has been:

ART ACADEMY for the DS!

It's great for walking you through art fundamentals in a way that is digestible and no where near as overwhelming as just jumping straight in to a massive, complex, digital art programme.

It gets all the fuss of materials and subject and reference out of the way and let's you just focuse purely on the process of making art itself.

This is all with the original DS version!

On a tiny screen with very primitive approximations of pressure sensitivity and no opacity or pen size options.

It mimics traditional art making in the sense that you make what you can with what you have and that limitation allows you to focuse on practice rather than get overwhelmed and over correct everything digitally.

These where tiny, crunchy, microcosmic, simplifications of digital art making back in 2009!!!

It's so refreshingly accessible and manageable.

I haven't even started the newer 3ds game that came out.

So if anyone reading is struggling with their art I highly recommend this little art exercise giver! It's helped me a lot.

Traces: Law and order

Back for more Jinkook shenanigans. I will always be back. 😇

And it somehow panned out because now's the perfect timing to talk about that side of Jungkook. Haha 🙂 I started this when Seven's teaser came out and now it's a whole two months later. Hello 3D.

Did a long (and rambling) post that spans across events in 2 and a half years. Like a highlight reel of some content that sit on the same arc. Like any other unconfirmed phenomena in the world, we can only look at what's presented and draw our own inferences.

Side note: The title of this post progressed from 'Who Confessed First' to 'Hyung Wait For Me' to the dried-up 🦑 I have now because recently I had felt like there's a need to highlight this aspect of Jinkook. The need had always been there actually.. but simply giving lectures and pep talks on why people should stop seeing Jinkook in that particular light only ends up with me becoming an internet rando screeching into the void. I'd rather Jinkook screech at everyone instead (if only they would). So I spend a good chunk of time trying to finding the lens that just showed what I saw, and that's as far as I'm going to go lol But along the lines of my original heading pertaining to the confessor.. Sure, there could've been no confession, no relationship, no underlying feelings whatsoever... but there could be ;)))

Please note that I will be using their Korean ages here as that's what they went by back then. Koreans are counted as a year old from the moment they are born, and everybody gets this additional year added to their ages at the beginning of the year, no matter when they're born during. SK had only recently (?) abolished this system.

⚠️ Smexy allusions ahead. (Appropriately, of course)

Every country has its own determined legal age and for South Korea, that's 20 years old. (I resist the strong urge here to insert my manifesto here that physical age ≠ mental age and that the lack of standardization where this line should be drawn is precisely why it is an unrelia- look at that just dug myself a shallow grave 🙂)

Fans all knew when Jeon Jungkook turned 20 because a whole shindig was thrown (by the members) about it - started in late 2015 and lasted all the way to the end of 2016.

So he was excited, the members were excited, and the fans were excited. And it's funny how the reason behind everyone's excitement was similar but not the same. Not the same.

These are events that transpired within the period between Danger (2014) and Fire (2016).

For in the years that BTS glowed up, there was an invisible line some were eagerly waiting to leap over, while others were blissfully or perhaps warily unaware(?) of those intentions. Before yall jump my throat and accuse me of shielding my bias, please calmly read on. (I think he bite off more than he could chew.)

For after the clock struck midnight on Dec 31 2015, the light turned green. And it'll become very clear very fast who was watching that second hand like a hawk, and who still perfunctorily giving head pats.

Anyway, hopefully from this account some can stop with the unnecessary berating of Jinkook's age difference as a ship because there was a very strong one-sided motivation to move things along.

In 2014 (not yet, smexy thoughts go to 🚓)

Jin: "Wait, how is everyone in our group an adult except Jungkook, that doesn't make sense"

Jk: "I-I-I will quickly become an adult too"

Jungkook was only 18 years old here. Still growing in height, had bunny teeth, full of energy and overall, still a kid.

And the point is that he was about 1.5 years away from becoming an 'adult' in SK.

The only real difference that bit of time made was that legally, Jk would be able to do some 'adult' things. For example, drinking, driving, clubbing, signing a legal document without a guardian signature.

But in terms of actual physical and mental growth, a period of 1.5 years does not guarantee nor indicate a measurable amount of change. (BTW Vmin at this time were still 18 years old internationally but already considered legal in SK. I know, it's trippy.)

Now when Jin made that comment "that doesn't make sense", it really stood out fer tow reasons.. 1. Per my logic it's as if to Jin, Jk already seemed like an adult in his eyes or maybe in comparison to the rest, he should be qualified to count as one. (I kinda agree, childish loud and extra, all of them)

2. Also, everyone was yelling commentary on Jk's growth - he's in high school, going through puberty, taller in height... but nobody else was fazed about Jk not being an adult. Members almost seemed to have the exact opposite POVs of Jin's. Ew bro is growing up vs Compared to you people he's not grown yet??

Right because somehow, there had always been a disconnect between how Jin viewed Jk and how other members viewed Jk.

Few other examples include~

Jin pointed to JK first then Jk followed suit. His face looked like a whole question: "Me?"

Btw, we have an excerpt of Jimin supporting Jin's choice but it's clear Rap Monster was still number one in 🐥's heart👆🏼:

And 'obsessive' seemed like a great descriptor for Jk because Jin seemed to have been on the receiving end of a lot of 'obsession'..:

Jin was the number one victim of Jk's sad boi serenades

"He keeps practicing but he keeps singing in someone's ear..." Suga said, concealing the identity of the affected.

"..my ears will just burst," Jin then bragged complained.

Overall, Jin was perceiving a whole other Jungkook from the rest of the members.

And 2015 rolled around. ( No 🔞 still 🚓)

For the below video.. I had a terrible time looking for it because logically, my brain said it should have happened some time near the end of 2015 and was probably released in early 2016. Because the video is of Jk, in the middle of a hectic warm-up session, asking the members to say a few words to him who is spending the last days of his teens. Ah youth, it flies away so fast-

Nope. When I finally found it I was both surprised and surprised. Filmed ? and released in April. It was barely second quarter... last days? You've got eight months left... JK??

What Jin said to him: "Well, for 10s... firstly you can't drive. After you reach the 20s you can drive. Hyung can drive now, envious right? (JK: yes, I'm envious 😂) You've worked hard."

Now there's nothing very special about this.. Jin's answer was short and sweet, about driving.... and he really just "said a few words" to Jk like he was asked. Very casual. Quite cavalier. Regardlessly, his cool attitude and dry 'blessing' still elicited giggles from Jk.

So returning to my issue with the date of filming, Jk made a selfcam in the MIDDLE OF 2015 asking everyone to say a few words to him who was leaving his teen years. The timing was so incredibly random. Later on I figured.. that it's possibly the staff's idea for the selfcam. 'Last days of his 10s' would be on theme for their HYYH series and there was also the giant album logo on the bottom...

Either way, it doesn't matter who came up with the idea for this content. Because it served as our official entrance into the saga and promptly highlighted Jk's coming of age. A reallllllly long one that should've only been a day's celebration and a couple of after mentions (like for Vmin), but wasn't.

In June, BTS had moved into a new dorm, released HYYH Pt.1 and were finally tasting a bit of success. No longer squished into a single bedroom, they now had roommates 🦑🎊

So it appeared that most were happy with the new arrangements and Jin was definitely one of them😚as he voluntarily started sharing what activities he did with Suga:

Jin started off talking about the logistics of the activity regarding the beds

To which Jk's question leaped out by reflex:

"You sleep (together)?" Not a second of thought.

And his tone, teehee wow... and too, watch his hands even after Jin reassured him that sleeping was not involved.

Also, the group of satisfied roomies didn't seem to include Jk because:

Jk and Tae were the only two who innocently raised their hands. (btw I have reason to suspect Tae wanted to share a room with Sin too.)

I love how Officer Min was interrogating the suspect, "What is it he(you) likes so much then?"

It's pretty clear there's a specific room Jk was gunning for and how all his teasing hyungs knew which one and why.

Game consoles was a big clue, and the eldest hyung in the corner thinking, nodding and going "Ah" softly when he heard Jk say "It's game consoles"... I could write a short fic on how 2015 Jin had rising suspicions but didn't dare to go there, and was momentarily relieved when he heard the maknae give a convincing answer for his frequent visits to his bedroom. But I won't.

Jk's coming of age was also brought up on a radio show in July. The host Ryeowookie had asked,

"Getting my license" JK answered. Something Jin did mention before in that practice room interview, but it's such a normal answer we can't say he was influenced by Jin.

Then Ryeowook went on to ask Jk if he wanted to become an adult or stay in his 10s...

When Ryeowook asked if he still wanted to enjoy his teens Jk went oh no immediately, he wanted to become adult

..but (oh?).. he watched a movie recently (ok..) and there were a lot of driving scenes. (????)

? OK.

I can relate to Jk's terrible use of conjunctions when attempting to lie on the spot.

Jk used to be a greenhorn at lying (he's all grown now) and couldn't commit fully to the lie, so he'd take really long to answer and what came out would sound like nonsense.

In this situation, it actually seemed like an alright answer because Ryeowook had no idea just how eager Jk was. Sure, a movie with a lot of driving scenes could in theory make a person eager to be legal and start tokyo drifting. However, it won't be long before Jk reveals his true intentions to the world. 👇

Also truly, I don't think Mad Max would have inspired someone to want to start driving. If you check dates, this banger came out at just about this time.

151224 Simply K-Pop - Some Questions About BTS

It's really, really close to the end of 2015 now.. and the start of 2016 when Jk could be officially counted as an adult on Jan 1.

And I was a bit taken aback at that time when I first saw the video because there were no warning signs for what he did when he did.

Jimin was the one who read the fan question, "Isn't Jungkook turning 20 years old soon? Please express your feelings with your entire body."

Jungkook: it's my f*cking time to shine 😃😏🥴🚓🈲🔞

That expression!! arm movements,!? and swagger?!! Goodness gracious👵🏻 He nailed the -thuggy old perv entering a strip joint ready to tear it up-

Just to make it clear why he was excited about becoming an adult:

Innocent little ol' me was going "is that allowed on TV??"

And amidst all the laughing men, one stiff alpaca seemed a little uncomfortable with Jk's boldness:

I mean. Who was that sleazeball that took over Jk's body?? This act was just a tad too transparent...

It's a howling declaration of what he thought of when he thinks 'adult'.

The year was really drawing to a close and on a live broadcast for KBS' year-end show, again, Jk decided to remind us of his questionable intentions after becoming legal.

The hot topic of the year was again cued:

Jungkook: "I believe everybody already knows what"

No, we don't know SAY IT

If Jin had seemed cavalier in April, he definitely was paying attention to Jk's coming of age on the last day of 2015.

To think that this friend will soon become an adultㅠㅠ Our makdoongie will become an adult soon too. Please stay as a makdoongie to hyung for a long long time, you muscle man (cr. Sihyun @ bts_trans)

A side note: Jin posted this message 16 minutes after midnight on Dec 31.

Oh the times back then. I wasn't a Jinkooker but I was always weirdly extra fond of their posts together. And was always somehow expecting them to do these posts showing how close they were, because I knew they were, yet astonished when they did. Shipper me today is like, yeah, dumbass. You a shipper you just didn't know it yet.

Finally, they crossed over to 2016 on stage at the end of the year and the MC had cued Jungkook to say a few words after becoming an adult. I would think there's at least one or two other idols on stage who were turning twenty in 2016 but he was the only one asked. Like I said, the shindig had been thrown all year long and everyone knew.

And it's funny that it's Jin's zodiac year too, along with Ken and Sandeul's.

After getting off stage, Jk tweeted too about becoming legal

"Armys wouldn't like it right"...... As a fan on the outside, no bb.. most were 😒creepily looking forward to it. But yeah, a few people might have preferred you stay small for longer.. one of them voiced that very sentiment the day before.

And then it finally arrived for real.

Alright, I don't know about you but those statements just sounded mysterious and wrong (?).

Jungkook looking old? Jin from church? People are still calling Jk baby star candy today, Jk from 2016 DID NOT look old. Objectively speaking.

Jin, from the church? He's elegant and well-mannered sure but when you say someone looks like they're from church, it usually points to their conservatism.

And as far as my BTS lore goes, Jin's family is buddhist. (fact check me :))

So Jk could have let us in a little bit on their um.. progress. And the interview was likely done during end of 2015. I'll boldly presume someone drew a clear line that even if it be days remaining, it's still a matter of law and order. Wait it out buddy.

If you still recall that there's a plot, it looked like one person was facing difficulty in making progress even after the clock struck midnight.

Thanks to Jin secretly showing off publicly complaining, we learned about a tenacious youth's struggle:

to take over Jin hyung's bed.

Allow me to swoon for a moment 🤗 I'm deeply consoled by Jk's heart on his sleeves nature. Look at him, going from just learning about Sin's nighttime movie dates to proactively taking Jin's bed before he arrives home.

From Jin's complaint, It was clear that Jungkook was taking the initiative and Jin was more passive in seeking the other out after hours.

When questioned from all sides, Jk created a smoke screen:

The carpet...hm mentioning the carpet. And how many of you were like me, immediately giving him the benefit of the doubt that he only slept on the carpet, not the bed? :/

Note how he brought up the carpet but couldn't go through with the whole lie and never once said he 'slept' on the carpet. The carpet was, just there in the room. It's really not relevant at all.

And Jin's response cleverly made it seem like the carpet was indeed a real factor in Jk's nightly visits. I'm intrigued because he knew (everyone knew) Jk was lying, but he feigned ignorance and played along with Jk's terrible excuse...which leads one to think Jin isn't as passive as he tried to appear.

The topic of Jk being an adult came up again during this festa, reasonably so because it is the year that it finally happened. This time around, the topic was also part of the script.

There's nothing substantial from this conversation that contributes to the arc, but their responses were so candid and hilarious:

SG: "Jungkook was 15 years old when we met but now he's a full grown man."

RM: "That's gross"

JK: "My chin split"

RM: "Your chin split?"

JK: "It's split here."

J: "Euhheuheuhahaheuhaheuhaha"

Idk about chins splitting once the state recognizes you as an adult, but brownie points to Jk for thinking that's correlated.

Sometimes I think his dude logic is part of his cutie star charm 🧚🏼‍♂️

Bon Voyage season 1 ep. 1

Can't miss this episode where their first dinner in Bergen was all about Jungkook's adult ceremony party:

All the hyungs had it in mind and were going to throw a surprise party for Jk after cooking dinner. Everyone was pretty excited:

RM led the song, Jimin gave JK birthday slaps and Jhope was the one who reminded Namjin about getting supplies.

Traditionally, the person gets three gifts for their ceremony: flowers, perfume and a kiss. As a group of dudes on an impromptu trip/variety show in a foreign country, they couldn't afford the first two.. and Jk resisted getting the third. (Honestly I could cry a little about how cute they were about preparing the candles, food and cake for Jk. It was different vibes back then)

Isn't it cute how Jin suggested cheesecake because of Jk's love for cheese 🥰

p.s. I'm spreading rumors that Jin was recreating the adult ceremony cake for Jk's birthday last year:

This live was a bit like a debriefing and commentary on the coming of age party they celebrated the day before.

All hyungs were teasing Jk about it, saying he's paying for the whole trip, the trip was to celebrate him, he's gonna shell the airplane tix..

And then Jin cut in while Jhope was very kindly telling Jk who bought the cake

The translators didn't sub it but Jin suggested a game to pick a member to kiss Jk

You can't take Jin seriously here 🤣 from head to toe, you could tell he was just teasing the maknae.

However. This question. Made Jk fall into a momentary daze.

He froze for about 3 seconds. Just based off this reaction I'd say they haven't kissed yet

And then gave his big 'I'm not gay hmph' lil protest ("A kiss from a guy...I would like a kiss from our fans") but that pregnant pause haha 😊 It's laden with panic. A big, straight boy would go directly into a 'no thanks bro' without a second thought.

2016 5.31-6.2 (?) BTS 3rd Birthday Party practice

Official party was over but the saga was not. It's probably because the members had started prepping for their Festa stages in late May pouring into early June, and the theme of Jk's adulthood hadn't exactly dissipated yet.

From the song choice to the style of execution, adult Jk spoke volumes:

Everyone who'd seen this practice video would agree upon noting the difference between Jk and Jm when they were dropping like it's hot.

Because Jimin exhibited what is called modesty and Jk showed lack thereof.

Both were smiling but one was embarrassed and the other was reveling in it.

That haughty side look and the casual walk off

We already know Jk was the one who picked the song and that the original was banned on music shows for its explicitness.

In the lyrics, the speaker was bluntly and figuratively saying to a person older than them - it was finally legal for them to 🌹🔞, the wait was over.

So there's debate over Jimin's participation in this dance number that Jk had chosen it with Jimin in mind, but think about it from this angle, 'target' audience has to be in the audience. Whoever he's thinking of, if he's thinking of someone at all, they've got to be watching from the seats.

Anyways, later on during the rehearsal, members all got to take turns watching each other perform.

And notably, Jin's comment asking "Was this originally supposed to be such a powerful performance" really revealed which member he was focused on during the show.

Additionally, the only time Jk showed a hint of modesty was when he was air thrusting and couldn't help breaking into a smile in the middle of the performance.

Kookie, you clearly thought of something while doing that motion.

Hip thrusting wasn't merely a dance move to him. And it's not a reach because he's precisely shown how aware he was of this aspect of life from [see above]

Osaka

After their festa, the celebration tapered off and there weren't any more direct mentions of how adult Jk was.

But of course, soon the banger Blood, Sweat and Tears dropped, boosted our numbers and drove everyone feral.

The creative team had seized the opportunity to switch up BTS' image from innocent, angsty youth in HYYH to the sensual, matured one in Wings. The team was able to move onto new pastures since Jungkook turned legal. This sudden change in concept and leap in their growth was very obvious in real-time.

And if the story seems rather skewed because Jin wasn't an active participant... it's cause Jk was the only one constantly reminding everyone he's almost legal, half a year more to go, few more days, LEGAL WOOOOOO, so legal, legal af, going to burn this fact into your mind.

As a Jin stan, I have to say his side of the story is a little bit more flat. There wasn't much progression in how he viewed Jk because as it appeared, Jk was already a manly man in his eyes since early 2014. Not in the adult sense, just personality-wise. Like mentioned before in some other post, Jin's a lot more consistent in the way he shows affection for Jk. If he was teasing and doting before 2016, he still was after.

For clues on how Jin's perception of Jk shifted, it may be better to look at how differently he began treating other members compared to Jk, pre and post-2016. Yes, our don't-touch-me Jinnie is only a saint that appeared after 2016.

And on a final note, I know I went on several mini rampages there on the isolated events so the saga may only seem remotely related based on Jk's coming of age....but you'll notice, it's the little things, their reactions, the slow progression and the hint of awareness... everything just tells us there's more happening beneath it all.

Would you care if I used your art style as a reference to work on my own style? I absolutely love how you draw faces and currently that's my biggest struggle.

This is actually a really good question.

I personally don't mind my art being used as reference for style practice or inspiration. HOWEVER. I do not wish people to use "this permission" I'm giving as an excuse to trace or completely steal my style. There is a difference between tracing/matching a style like the original artist- rather than just using the art as an inspirational reference practice. So just as long as this is not taken advantage of, used to trace/mirror my art, or remotely claim my style is theirs, than yes! You may use it for reference.

I'm open to this because of a number of reasons. In my experience as an artist who is still learning and improving or even comparing my older art; I also used other artist's work as reference and inspiration. My style is all my favorite artist who i enjoyed the certain of style how they would draw "eyes" or "faces" or even shading and color! I pieced togther those qualities along with my own to finally create a style I genuinely enjoyed to draw after so long of trial and error. Its good to branch out with more styles! Its part of an artist's growth and sometimes people forget that in the community. Just as long as you attempt to add your own creativity and highlight of your own style to it in the end, i'd say its a healthy way to slowly improve over time! Hell, i still use other people's work as inspiration/ref so i can try and learn how to color or shade in certain ways until i find something im comfortable with for my full finished work. (Which is rare btw lmao. Sorry about that! My motivation sadly dies out pretty fast because of how slow i draw at times.)

I know it can be frustrating for a lot of people who draw and end up hating their art or style. And thats okay, it just means you're ready to improve! Sadly though people get stuck with this part. They may know they need to "draw more" or follow the "practice makes perfect" rule- but it sometimes doesn't help growth in the way they need to.. While that is still a big part, people also forget that its okay to draw in completely different styles or jump out of their comfort zone. Hell, i used to have a really cartoon look to my art, but one day i attempt the 'tumblr art style" (not sure what its actually called lmao) and ended up falling in love with it! So if anyone ever feels stuck or hating their art style, i highly recommend trying to steady other people's art that you enjoy and take inspiration in. Not only will it give you motivation, but drawing certain traits or different features of styles will open a more doors towards your own unique style in the end! Haha.. i know i kinda rambled about this- so my apologies. I do hope this helps reassure any artist out there though. I believe in you guys!

Buuuut anyways.. With this all in mind, I would love to see the art you do if you do use my work as reference. Its very flattering, so @ me if you plan to post it!

@zoeyfoster-blog Omg I'm extremely biased, but I would say yes. For one, GX is a comedic masterpiece especially if you watch the dub. Yes the dub takes itself way less seriously and changes a lot of stuff from the canon japanese version BUT. It's so funny. It's so so so funny. Other then that I mean, GX is just a fun show with fun characters. I love the characters dearly (Chazz it up for life), but it's not like. The most brilliant piece of media out there. It's a pretty standard show for kids really. Though it get's really angsty and dark in seasons 3-4. Idk I really love it personally. If I were you, I'd watch s1, maybe early season 2 dubbed, because those parts of the show are a lot more silly and watching them dubbed would make it more funny/enjoyable. But def switch to sub on the more serious episodes like those in s3. Also thank you for liking my art :'D!!

Happy American Thanksgiving, here’s art I did. A few days ago was my birthday, got a new iPad been drawing and ended up with this.

Y'all know that post I did a few weeks ago about the Charmcaster, Darkstar, and Albedo team up? I'm writing a fic on that, it's not out yet because I'm trying to finish the damn thing before I post it so it's not stuck in editing hell like my other fic is.

Anyway at some point Sunny joins the group, and somehow I ended up with a new ship. (There isn't gonna be any Charmcaster x Michael in the fic btw.)

Full disclosure: The hands I had to trace from the reference I was using cause I couldn't get it right, and the background was from the show that I blurred and edited to make it fit the box. Maybe I’ll art dump on here or my DevaintArt (Kira-Sema) one of these days since I have drawn a lot from my phone, my sketch book, and my old iPad. I just haven’t posted any of them anywhere public cause it’s either traced from references/screenshots I used, traced of old drawings, or it just didn’t come out the way I wanted it to. (Or it’s for my Ben 10 AU that I haven’t made public and the drawings are spoilers for the story.)

Under the cut I explain some of the story I’m writing and how this ship came about from it. (If y’all want to wait till I get to posting the story ignore the ‘keep reading’ cause it spoils the story.)

Aight so by the time I get to this point in the story, Charmcaster, Michael, and Albedo are more anti-hero than full on villain. They're more friendly with the Alien Force Trio, but not going out of their way to do anything "good". (Canon still kinda happens except that Enemy of My Frenemy happens before Girl Trouble.) Michael has a better grasp with his powers and doesn’t have to feed on people to get mana, Charmcaster ended up helping with that by giving him tiny bits of her mana at a time till he turned back to normal. He still can accidentally absorb mana if he touches someone who has a lot of power so he refrains from having physical contact with Charmcaster and Gwen. (And if he does it’s for a short time or it’s channeled through someone else to channel back to the original person. Is that possible? Idk but I’m doing it lol.) Albedo is able to use mana too, but it’s weaker. (The same level as Kid Gwen’s when she was just starting out, so his mana is blue over being pink/purple. He has to rely on using spell books over being able to channel mana by itself.) He’s been trying to use mana to try and get back to being a Galvan, but he can only be a Galvan for a short period of time. Instead of Sunny being taken back to Anodyne by Verdona, Gwen makes the suggestion that they take her to Hex’s mansion and have her be with Charmcaster, Michael, and Albedo to try and get Sunny to change her attitude a bit. Michael is smitten as soon as they meet, and for actual reasons not because of her being a more powerful Anodite. In order for Michael to be able to touch Sunny without draining her, they use Albedo as a conductor since his mana is still weaker than theirs. During this time Albedo is working on refining Michael’s gloves so they can be an insulator so it limits him being able to absorb someone’s energy. At first it’s only so Michael can be able to safely have physical contact with Sunny, but after some time Albedo gets feelings for Sunny too. (She also constantly flirts with him as well.) The way I’m writing this is that Michael and Albedo are both with Sunny, but the boys aren’t together. Could that change? Dunno, but I don’t think so cause before this point in the story I already established that they, along with Charmcaster, see each other as siblings. (Which is why Michael isn’t with Charmcaster, their relationship is platonic in here.)

Because its mine, and I know where I want my work to exist and where I don't. Because I know if people are only accessing my work via X means, then they're not viewing it as some random uncredited screenshot or reupload somewhere. Where it'll get saved and shared again, then shared again, then someone's using it as their blog icon and someone else has used it as a background on their Wattpad fic banner, and nobody knows or cares that the work is mine.

That is absolutely not what I said.

Sharing your work means = reblogging it or giving link to somewhere or reposting it in a private non profit space (aka among friends, or during a DND session) with credit/link to get back to the artist. If in private you do that, without claiming to have done it, with giving links back to the artist, it shouldn't matter because the artist doesn't lose anything (even gain because that way it can access some group of people who aren't on the same side of social media but could be interested by commissions). Still you will have artists wanting to control that aspect too. You didn't read well my former post but idk how to say it better than that tbh.

I even talked about sketchfab as a solution, which has a shop. Btw sketchfab has also a large amount of CC models. It's kinda crazy too how much sketchfab models have so much free/non profit copyrights when they're 3D models that could be used anywhere (even for creating pictures/rendering/games/videos).

If you're so afraid of your work being stolen or shared with credits in a place you personally don't want to (among friends privately for ex), don't share it because it is going to happen as long as you don't have a proper platform to share the picture (similar to sketchfab for ex). Social media are not a good platform for artists because it's gonna be stolen no matter what and you won't know it. But you won't stop because again, you have more to gain to be seen even if some people copy paste your art somewhere else.

Besides the question of copyright affects artists too. If game companies or shows went as far as internet artists regarding their creation: no one could ever draw anything from anywhere ever. I drew Yone from LoL, the character is copyrighted so I'm technically also stealing the character for my own means despite drawing him myself without tracing. So yes. It is a neverending issue. It's everywhere, everyone is guilty of it, it means that the (American) law is not quite adapted to it at all or that the tools aren't there to properly support people's choices.

The issue with this discussion is that artists are incapable of having the conversation without directly jumping to "you think everything is free on the internet" "you think stealing is okay" and that sharing means copying the picture, posting it on social media and claiming to have done it by default.

my quest screen is so empty rn 😭 i even maxed the geoculus and anemoculus out of boredom, so i'm planning on maxing the electroculus soon (pray for me, inazuma is large large). the only thing i have left rn is the hangout quests! but i might start farming artifacts for all my five-stars and not just my main team too. the five-stars i have built who have their own artifacts are: heizou, kazuha, eula, ayaka, klee, zhongli, keqing, tighnari, and kokomi... which leaves about 6 other five-stars unbuilt. wish me luck <//3 (btw, i got so excited for ayato that i already have his build ready on xingqiu LOLLL anything for him! i think it has a 50/208 crit ratio?? fjwjkskd)

Oh god oh jeez. I have no idea what advice I could possibly give that wouldn't sound like a goose trying to learn English with a parrot translator. But goddammit I'm gonna try my way.

This is embarrassing because I'm literally in art school and I'm lacking fundamental advice for anatomy like those incredibly clever art-tips you see online. But I've picked things up along the way I swear. Maybe not exactly what you're asking for (probably definitely not - so I apologise in advance), but I think they're good to know anyway. Bear with me as I vomit them out.

Firstly, I'm gonna play a broken record to you on repeat here, which is the most important thing when it comes to improvement. You guessed it: PRACTISE (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧

I know - Trust me I know it sounds tiring, and the idea is much easier than actually picking up your tool and doing it. But there's no way around it. Not even the most talented and incredible artists in the world become that way at the moment of birth; they're spending their lives practising and learning new things. Whether professionally or not, you don't become amazing overnight. It takes effort; and whether you want to treat that effort as work, or fun, is completely up to you. Being one or the other doesn't change your skill - it only changes the way you view your practise. Personally; I view my practise as fun, because it feels like more of an achievement when I make something I'm proud of. It's a win-win. Also because fanart is extremely fun always XD

If you keep practising - even if you hate your work at first and want it burned, I fucking promise you it'll pay off, even if it takes years. The best part about it is looking back on your progress and thinking: wow, I'm so proud of myself. For example here is my own evolution, one from August 2020 - to September 2021

(I was brand new to digital art with a purely traditional background, so I was extremely naive about the whole concept. Looking at multitudes of fanart is my only education XD)

This is the evolution of practice and studying the shit out of other peoples art; experimenting like crazy and teaching yourself from the basics to the advanced. Spend one week practising curls and nothing else. Spend another learning how to render skin. And another doing nothing but hands and fingers and wrists galore. Draw a hand using a photo, even trace over it. Learn your shapes first and then you can advance to the next step. Dip your toes in and you won't get overwhelmed <3

I know this isn't exactly nitty-gritty anatomy tips, but at the end of the day any advice is just more education; it helps all around. I'm gonna give you something else - a much more specific tip; an exercise. It's fun I promise, because there's no such thing as a bad result, they're all equally bad XD Shit - I can hear my teacher scowling, I meant good.

You can do this digitally if you prefer, but I like using simple pencil and paper, it feels more fluid. There are two ways to practise accessing the right-side of your brain (the creative side). Or in a less pretentious way to say: how to stop giving a fuck about being perfect.

The first way is called blind continuous line-drawing. It’s pretty self-explanatory: you either use a reference in front of you or just on memory, and draw it without ever lifting your pencil up. But you don’t look at your paper at all, you’re letting your hand and your memory guide you. The more you practise this, the more you stop worrying about making it neat and perfect, you can fucking let loose. Make music that sounds like cats shoved into a washing machine. This exercise will follow you on your other art pursuits, even if you don’t realise it. Remember, practise baby~

Next exercise, and my personal favourite is loose line sketches. They’re similar to continuous line in the way that you’re encouraged to let your inhibitions go and make a mess. You can lift your pencil, and you can look at your paper, and essentially it’s like sketching... if your sketching was like an ice-addict having a seizure. Which is beautiful! And unique, and dammit you don’t need to feel embarrassed, but none of these are meant to be perfect.

See the heavy loose lines that I use sparingly in the sources of light, and condensed in the spaces of darkness. I put away that little devil telling me to be perfect and concise, and just have fun and go bonkers. It teaches you about form and light without spending 5 hours trying to make it photorealistic. These all took less than 5 minutes, that’s how little I gave a fuck about making them perfect. And goddamn it helps. Give them a try, spend no more than five minutes on them, and see how you go <3 It works digitally too!

Okay this answer is so long and I’m so sorry, I don’t even know if I’ve answered your question at this point, I’ve gone off the rails. Hands... okay hands. Hands are the most difficult thing for me to draw, which is just cruel irony because they’re also my favourite aside from faces. The most I can offer at this point is that practise will save your life. Observe other artists and how they draw, take the time to notice things about their art that you wouldn't at first glance. The highlights and source of light? The length of their fingers? Are they thick or delicate? Are they anime hands and fucking massive? Is that body slender or thicc? Where are they putting the curves, fat and muscle on their person (or furson, furries are welcome here ❤). Decide through this observation and your own practise what kind of style you aspire to have out of your art. Do what makes you proudest, what you find the most enjoyable, and as I've said, stop giving a fuck about anyone, including yourself. You have your own unique take on reality and it's beautiful <3 You can draw blob hands and it's okay, because they're your blob hands :3

BASICS

2. What does their name mean? Why were they named that?

the incredibly deep and thoughtful meaning behind Deputy Gigi's name is that she is the deputy and Gigi is my nickname and she is named that way because she is my fun little self-insert lady with a fun little hat. 😎

On a more serious note: I have thought a lot about her name by now and have come to the conclusion that I find it highly amusing if she were to just go by her first name (which is possibly a nickname, I haven't decided yet) and title and nobody really knew that much about her full name because it does not really matter in the end anyway. She'll introduce herself as the Junior Deputy or Deputy Gigi and people are all confused and will be like..? "Is Gigi your surname? Is this a nickname? Your nametag says Rook." in absolute confusion. She'd just shrug and leave them in the dark.

although I have considered making Rook her last name but I am somewhat hesitant about that for some reason I do not know

according to some mediocre ecosia research (use ecosia btw! it's great!) Gigi can be the diminutive of Virginia, which can mean "virginal" or "virgin woman", something I find equally amusing considering how much of a thot my character and I are, but also "pure" which I find kinda endearing. under all of this wrath and energy and grief and confusion and stress, there are pure intentions and those are what motivates her. it is a stretch but I like the connection nonetheless.

3. Do they have any nicknames?

Yes! Sharky calls her Shorty, Hurk has adopted the practice. (I love them.) Stacy, she likes to call him Stace, used to call her Stinky but not as much anymore after he is freed from Jacob's capture. Addie sometimes uses sweet pea, sweetcorn, or sweet greens for her. Everybody respects that and nobody dares to make fun of it. Also because they are scared of the ass whooping they would get from both.

APPEARANCE

2 . Do they have a face claim?

Hm kinda but also kinda not...? I based her design on my face for obvious self-insert reasons but also because I cannot draw without tracing photos to save my life.

If I had to pick a face-claim with a gun to my head I'd probably say Gal Gadot, but also because I am a HUGE wonder woman fan. Maybe throw in some Priyanka Chopra - especially during her Quantico days - and Zoë Kravitz in there too.

3. What’s their style like? Clothes, hair, makeup?

ooooh fun fun fun! I love talking about style and this specifically!

At first, Gigi was really attached to her uniform. To a point where it took a good bit of persuasion from Dutch until she finally agreed to at least take it off to let it dry. (She then also gave it a rinse because lake water stinks and she eventually came to the realization that she cannot be a respectable deputy if she smells like days-old fish pee.)

But during the first few weeks after the helicopter crash, she will absolutely not take that damn uniform off. Not even if it gets really hot under the shirt. It is so ingrained in her that she is responsible for protecting the citizens of Hope County, especially now that the situation has escalated. She. Cannot. Possibly. Fail. Them. It's not only her job but her duty and the uniform that represents this role as Junior Deputy is the only thing that she can cling to for at least a brief sense of security and pre-reaping normalcy.

Then, after having witnessed one too many deaths, presumably on the resistance side - that she of course secretly blames herself for - something in her snaps and she ditches the uniform because at this point it does not mean anything anymore anyways. So from then on, she sports her skinny jeans and the trouble maker crop top. John swears it's a deliberate decision to taunt them because her new clothes show off the scars he gave her all too well and OH MY GOD IT'S NAKED SKIN! LITTLE JOHNNY JUST HAS TO STARE!

She also ditches her old boots eventually for a pair of trainers which she takes from an abandoned home. It's something she hates doing but her boots are basically falling apart by then and decent shoes in her size are hard to come by when nobody gets in or out of the county. She makes a mental note to get whoever they previously belonged to a new pair if they are both still alive when the cult is finally defeated though.

And of course, not to forget, her cowboy hat! It was something Dutch allowed her to take from his bunker. It belonged to a family member once but they have stopped visiting him quite a while ago and he figures she can keep it. Also a little ref to Sheriff Whitehorse who she respects a lot and who is someone my dep looks up to.

okay, okay, okay. I'm getting a little ranty again so I'll try to keep it short but my stance on this is that the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is complete and utter bullshit. give it a google if you're interested, I'm too tired of this to explain.

3. What are their hobbies and interests? Do they have any particular “favorites” (food, books, and so on)?

The easiest way to Gigi's heart is food. Food and horses. She has been riding horses as long as she can walk and she absolutely loves spending time with those animals. And she loves to cook and eat. She loves taking care of people by cooking for them and getting cared for in the same way. If you get her takeout after she had a long day of work she'll basically be down to get married on the spot (John, take note! You should have brought Bang Bang Broccoli with Tofu to the church instead of those dead ravens).

During the reaping, she would love nothing more than to catch a break with a book. She prefers non-fiction but at the time she would take basically anything to just take her mind off the whole mess for a while.

Things with her parents are tense but not completely terrible. They don't talk often. She has a bunch of cousins she loves but doesn't get to see as often as she'd like. At least that means nobody is worried about her when she does not text or call for a while... She hates when people worry about her.

Deputy Gigi is absolutely chaotic good. A very loud, very fun, and caring mom-friend. Okay, maybe not exactly mum but fun auntie-friend? She always wants to take care of everybody and can make friends wherever she goes but she can also quickly get too much for people when she's having a good time and really excited about life.

That, fortunately, attracts a bunch of queerdos though! But the job has taken a toll on her social life and does not get to see and talk to her old friends as much as she would like anymore...

3. What’s their love life like? Do they have any kids?

Active describes it the best. My deputy is definitely a people-person. She also values her alone-time but she is naturally outgoing flirty and sexual (when she is not on the job) so she does date and sleep around. That stops for a while with the reaping but once she is back to her old self, virtually no cheeks in hope county will escape the clapping!

FUN FACTS

2. Do they play any instruments? Sports?

She plays guitar. Not super well but it's enough to accompany her singing and that she does well! Same for playing the piano. Generally, she is musically inclined she just lacks any formal education, and now the time to practice.

Dep Gigi does not play sports apart from horse riding but she starts to learn bat tricks when it becomes her trusty companion.

3. What are some items they always carry?

45. Kisses exchanged as they move around, hitting the edges of tables or nearly tripping over things on the floor before making it to the sofa, or bed.

After the kiss, Damen knew he couldn't wait any longer.

They played another round, where Laurent asked Nicaise who out of all of them he liked best and Nicaise flushed scarlet red and cursed him out before admitting that it was Nikandros.

Which then led to Nikandros gaping at him and Nicaise declaring that they were all assholes, the game stupid and he would need a drink before he stomped off.

Laurent looked very pleased and Aimeric sighed. "Do you have to provoke him every single time?"

Vannes laughed and clapped him on the back. "Come on, Aimeric. Don't pretend you wouldn't have done the exact same thing. It's good that it's out in the open. Now our earnest Akielon can decide on his next course of action. He can have his crisis over their age gap in peace while Nicaise boils with anger and as soon as both of them calm down, they can talk."

Laurent smirked and stood. "I like your thinking, Vannes." With these words, he made his way across the room.

Damen scrambled to follow him, ignoring Lazar's and Vannes' taunts, because they were really not important at all.

He wrapped his hand around Laurent's wrist to stop him. "Follow me, we need to talk."

Laurent grinned up to him. "If 'talk' is used as a synonym for 'having sex' then heed my words, Damen. I was completely serious when I told you that I wouldn't just sleep with you without a date."

This elicited a groan out of Damen just the image of Laurent in is bed was enough. He wanted him badly. But he wouldn't rush things. Not now, because he wanted more from Laurent than just a night of passionate sex.

"It isn't." He dragged him towards the second west wing of the house where his rooms were. Laurent followed with a curious glance around. He had never been here before Damen was aware of that.

"So, what did you want to talk about?" Laurent asked as soon as Damen stopped walking. They were in his study, the room filled with books and records and Laurent was clearly intrigued by what he could see from the shelves.

"I wanted to ask you out on a date. Would you get dinner with me tomorrow?"

Laurent smiled. It was soft and warm, and Damen felt the tingles it evoked in his fingertips. "I would like that." Then he stepped closer and reached up to trail a fingertip over Damen's jaw. The touch was electrifying and exhilarating, and Damen wanted to haul him against his chest and kiss him until they both wouldn't know their names anymore.

Two weeks later

They stumbled through the dark. Damen didn't care, he only felt Laurent's lips on his own, his silky hair in his fist and his moving back under the palm of his hand.

Then he stubbed his toe. "Fuck- Ouch, damn."

Laurent laughed, the sound still as enchanting as the first time Damen heard him, and dragged his lips back to his mouth.

Damen was walking backwards towards his bedroom. At least, he thought this was the direction, but somehow it seemed as if someone had moved all the furniture just to pose another hurdle before he could finally get Laurent naked and panting under him.

Tonight, Laurent had taken him out to dinner and then the theater and it had been perfect. It had been their fourth official date and although they had finished date number three with very satisfying orgasms on both ends, they hadn't had penetrative sex yet or seen each other naked or touched each other's cocks.

But it seemed as if this would change soon. Gods, Damen hoped so.

Laurent stumbled into him, tripping over something on the floor. Damen wrapped his arms around him and kissed him again. "Fuck, I want you."

"You have me. But really, I would prefer a bed for these activities, if you don't mind." Laurent's teeth gleamed white when he grinned, and Damen laughed.

"And then he has standards. Unbelievable," he teased, and Laurent bit his collarbone. "I don't know about that. I mean I'm going out with you, don't I?" The blonde's breath was hot against his throat when he spoke the words and Damen shuddered. "My standards, as you call them, can't be that high."

He had to draw him back in. He pressed their mouths together and traced Laurent's bottom lip with his tongue.

"I assure you, I can live up to your standards just fine," he murmured and pressed his hips against Laurent's. The blond gasped against his lips just as Damen bumped against his door. He felt the edge of the doorway dig into his arm. He blindly fumbled in the dark and finally found the doorhandle. Pushing open his bedroom door, he flickered on the soft night light before dragging Laurent back in.

heyo it's me again, how do you draw hair if that's ok to ask? im just rlly bad at that rn (btw drawing [or trying to draw] the way you draw has made my life So Much Easier, it's so nice? i been doing eyes like you do for sam and i'm so happy with it?? when i have some nice ones i'll post them)

thank you so much for asking!!! I just wanna preface this by saying that as a white artist who draws primarily white characters, my "hair tutorial" is going be severely limited to what I spend most of my time drawing. in gonna try and make this advice as general as possible, but please seek out artists of color for advice on drawing characters of color! I've found this tutorial by @misselaney really helpful (and way more in depth than this is going to be lol) for drawing black hair!

alright, so I'm going to use sam and dean for this because I've drawn them only about a thousand different times. (I outlined their head shapes in yellow just to give u a better idea of things)

I usually start by drawing the hairline (outlined in green). that's going to include wherever the part is, how much their hair is receding, sideburns, etc.

once u have the hairline, my personal style is to draw hair in chunks (outlined in red). obviously this is going to vary through different styles and hair textures, but I think it's a good starting place!

I also just wanna throw out there, that like with all "cartoonish" styles, a lot of this relies on exaggeration of character traits through physical traits. deans got that "bad boy" look, so his hair is going to be spiky and probably full of gel, whereas sam has the softer college boy look, so his hair is a little curlier. it's obvious to us on screen when we're watching the show, but unless you're going for realism, those traits can get lost unless they're exaggerated a little.

this goes for everything, but USE REFERENCE PHOTOS!!!!! and esp if you're just starting out, dont be afraid of tracing photos. I know that's a big taboo thing, but tracing is not inherently bad, the issue is people tracing other artists work and then posting and claiming it as their own, but no one is going to arrest you for tracing photos as a warm up exercise or to learn how to draw something new. (again! tracing is a starting place, and you dont want to completely rely on it, but dont be afraid of doing it at all)

I hope this helped! please remember, I am still learning, and the last art class I took was in 10th grade, so take everything I say with a grain of salt lol. but thank you for asking! I'm really happy my work and style has inspired you :))

Lordy lordy I hope you signed up for the angst. I figured this would take place at the tail end of the Battle of Germantown after Laurens was injured. The whole Grand Tour idea was a thing lots of young guys did in the 1700s, where they would tour around Europe as a ‘coming of age’ thing, partly to learn about culture, but also partly to get all the partying out of their system before coming home and settling down to being responsible. Mostly this was done by lads in Europe, but also some from the US, so I guess it’s feasible for Hamilton and Laurens, if they were planning on taking some time before going into government after the war (not that that was likely, but hey, it’s a ficlet :p). (A great book that I got the idea from is called The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue and it is spectacularly bi and I love it.) Also - pls excuse the rubbish formatting, I typed this up on Word first XD

Prompt: Lams + “Things you said through your teeth.”

Alexander Hamilton had given up all pretense of writing. He had pestered Ensign Allard for a glance at his pocket-watch enough times that the poor soldier rather conspicuously got up and left the mess tent, leaving him alone with increasingly desperate thoughts.

How long was a battle supposed to take? He’d heard of naval battles that took hours, or infantry attacks that took days. In the Trojan War they had fought every day for years. That wouldn’t be the case today, would it? There were a lot of things that could have gone wrong after – how long had it been? Hours? Had it surpassed a day yet?

Hamilton pressed the heels of his hands into his eyes until stars flashed into being behind his eyelids. He felt very small and very full of compressed energy, like a tightly-coiled spring. He should be out there, in the heart of the conflict, at Laurens’s side.

And what if that sandy head of hair returned slick with blood, shading a now-dull pair of eyes? Or didn’t return at all? He tried not to think, but the thoughts arrived unbidden anyways – fixed bayonets aimed at the pale skin over Laurens’s heart, blood running over those shoulders like the stone of a statue where he had piled up his hopes. What if the pink lips heaved their last gasp before he ever had a chance to kiss them? Because, he wasn’t going to fool himself, it was a very tempting eventuality.

It took waking to make Hamilton realize that he had drifted into a sort of restless sleep. Some commotion was evident on the road into camp, horses’ hooves, scattered yells, and then structured orders of some sort. He smoothed his hair back, equal parts apprehension for news of the battle, and indignant for not being allowed in the attack.

The first wounded soldiers had returned. And they looked terrible.

His own small body had seen its fair share of injuries. When he was ten he had fallen out of a tree and sliced his arms on all the branches the whole way down. He’d sprained an ankle, bloodied his nose in a fight, and burned his fingers learning to melt wax seals, but that was not even comparable to some of the returning soldiers. Half could hardly keep upright on the skittish horses they rode in on. Alexander scanned them all, just in case John was among the bloodied faces and torn uniforms. He’d tried to memorize his appearance before he turned back so as to not see the regiments leave that morning, uncertain whether it would be the last time he got to see it or not.

The sky started to lighten. It felt like frost was creeping over his guts. More wounded soldiers arrived, screaming bloody murder or muttering weakly for a medic. Alexander wondered which was worse.

And then he was running. Before he even knew why, he was dashing across the path and catching the reins of the bolting horse as the familiar rider slid weakly from the saddle and into the arms of whoever was nearest. “John,” Hamilton moved to prop up his other shoulder, only to draw back quickly. It was soaked in blood, turning the blue fabric to purple and dripping thickly, almost like paint, from his fingertips. “You’ve been shot,” he said, rather obviously.

In answer, John gritted his teeth and let his head rest on Alexander’s shoulder. The medic was a tall, thin man with wire-rimmed spectacles. He looked like the type one might find in a library rather than a military camp, but his hands were steadier than Alexander’s. He eased John onto a cot that was more table than bed. “Thank you sir, I’ll take him from-”

“May I stay?”

“If you’re willing to help, you can stay. But it’s not going to be easy, nor pretty.” The medic spoke so fast Hamilton wouldn’t have been able to get a word in had he tried. He tore a sizeable opening through the uniform coat before anyone could protest, and Hamilton’s dazed brain could only think of how purple fabric signified royalty, how Laurens had almost looked royal when he rode out with his hair tied back and his face the picture of determination.

“Since you’re here,” said the medic grimly, “I’d ask that you help me in holding his arms down – we need to remove the bullet and it’s not going to be comfortable.”

John tugged weakly on Alexander’s sleeve. “Is this Hell?” he asked, hardly louder than a whisper.

“No, no it’s not, believe me, you’re not bound for Hell,” Hamilton tried to be comforting, brushing his dear friend’s hair off his forehead.

“No… I… aarrgh… I ki - killed… redcoats… Alex, I-”

“Drink this,” said the medic. Whatever it was, it must have been pretty strong, because John grimaced and relaxed somewhat. “Now please make sure he doesn’t attempt to punch me,” the medic exhibited a notable purple bruise on his jaw with a sigh, “As others have tried it before and it not only ended badly for me, but they also tore their stitches. Hold him still.”

“Hold still John,” Alexander repeated, unsure whether or not his friend was listening. His eyes were wandering around, tracing the shapes of the rafters. Without ceremony, the medic got to work picking for the bullet with a sharp instrument that made Hamilton nervous. He spared a silent prayer in thanks that he had decided to study law, as opposed to medicine.

John screamed. All his muscles employed themselves in attempting to get away from whatever was causing him so much pain, though Alexander held him fast. While Hamilton was typically a firm believer in the “bear it quietly and bravely like a gentleman” mindset, he could understand this particular outburst. The medic’s fingers were soaked in blood, but he could somehow still maintain a decent grip on the knife he picked up.

“Keep him awake,” muttered the surgeon.

“Hey. Look here. Jac, look at me.” John looked around, eyes fixing on Alexander’s face, somewhat in confusion at the use of a nickname he hadn’t heard in years. “Jac, I need you to tell me what you plan to do after the war.” Laurens looked at him as if from a great distance and streaming eyes. “Science,” he said, through gritted teeth. “I’ve always wanted to study- AARGH!!” he screamed again.

“Good,” Alexander glanced over. The wound was certainly opened, and the medic pressing down on it, poking through the blood to find the bullet. “Where will you study?”

“I – ah – I dunno…” John muttered thickly, letting his head fall to one side.

“Europe?” Alexander squeezed his arm.

“Europe…” he nodded through a weak gasp, “Good plan.”

“Yes, I’m full of those. I’ve another one, you just have to stay awake for me, alright Jac?”

“’m awake…”

“A grand tour. We’ll travel all around Europe, see all those sights, eh? The opera houses and the ruins and scientific lectures, everything. How would you like that?”

“Museums,” muttered John, though he could hardly move his jaw for clenching his teeth so hard. “And theatres. And Gil could show us his house.”

The medic prepared another frightening-looking implement. “Just once more and then I ought to have it…”

“What do you bet it’s a castle?”

“It’s a damn castle,” said Laurens.

One last scream and one last wash of blood left him lying back almost peacefully, the tears drying as the medic finished off the stitches. “Give it a few days,” he told Hamilton. “He should be alright as long as there is no infection.”

Hamilton slumped back onto a camp stool beside Laurens. Even so bloodied and exhausted he looked like the kind of hero that Alexander had doubted ever existed. So the battle had spit him back out, alive for the most part. It had been far too close. I’ve got to tell him, he thought. He could be taken so easily, I have to tell him that I would have gladly been his Achilles, were he to fall like Patroclus. Life was so short, and he’d be damned if he let the most wonderful man he had ever met in all his short, tragic years slip through his fingers again.

“Did you mean it?” Laurens’s voice was still quietly slurred through his teeth.

“Oh. I thought you were asleep. Do you need another drink?”

“Did you mean it?” he was so quiet Alexander had to lean in to hear him, auburn curls brushing his friend’s cheek. “That we would go on a grand tour? And see all those beautiful places in Europe?”

“I… yes. I meant it. We just need to win this war first, alright?”

“That would be easier if you would give me something to drink,” John grumbled.

Alexander rolled his eyes. “Anything for the war effort, I suppose.”

The wordsdidn’t sound as painful as he had thought they would be. In fact, they had no effect. They felt empty,numb, like an emotional placebo.

He knew itwould happen eventually, he had prepared himself for it for the last fewmonths. The impact of the news couldn’t compare to the shock and the dread offinding out he was sick. Those had been the real bad news. That had been theday, that his happy ever after was given an expiration date.

“It’s ok, Iunderstand”

He walkedinto the room slowly, ignoring the kind offers of the nurse asking if he neededanything, and followed what had been his ritual for the past three months. Hehanged his coat on the wooden chair’s backrest, and used the support of hiswalking stick to help him sit down, facing the man that was lying on top of thebed, white, so white, that Yuuri almost lost him within the hospital bedsheets.He licked his creased lips, he hadn’t realized he was trembling until hereached for his husband’s hand and saw himself shaking. It was then or never;he knew the sedatives wouldn’t take long to kick in and, once he fell asleep,he wouldn’t wake up again.

“Vitya?”

He strokedthe back of his hand, and the man opened his eyes lazily, blinking a few times.There was that spark of icy blue, the contrast of color against all thewhiteness. His eyes were the only thing that were still the same, that hadn’tfall pray of the effects of old age, and popped out young and beautiful fromthe wrinkly skin of his face. Yuuri couldn’t stop staring at them, couldn’tstop himself from praising what was still left, what had felt so inflexible andfamiliar for almost sixty years of marriage. He saw him smile, new foldsdrawing on his cheeks and the corner of his mouth, and felt his fingersresponding to the touch.

“Hello,love”

Usually,then would come the “how are you doing?” question, but that day he didn’t feellike asking it. He didn’t want to hear the answer. He kept looking at him,having so much to say and yet nothing at all. Love and grief kept cancellingeach other inside his mouth and in the end he couldn’t speak, just stare, andhold his hand in his.

So, unableto find a proper replacement for his routine, which he knew would become evenharder after that day, he waited in silence until it was Viktor who spokeagain.

“You reallyare beautiful, you know?” He said, voice groggy and tired, and Yuuri couldn’teven fake a snort. Instead, he sighed, and caressed up his bony arm.

“Don’t saystupid things. We are old”

“But youare” He insisted, smiling that silly heart-shaped smile of his that was soridiculously contagious “You will always be beautiful in my eyes”

“Hey, wematch!” He coughed a chuckle “Hasn’t mine always been?”

Yuuri grinned,tracing his fingers on the familiar silver locks, now so much thinner and whiter,but still soft and absurdly soothing. He couldn’t help but remember just howconcerned his husband had been all his life about his growing hairline. Andnow, even though scarce and shorter, he still had hair on top of his head.

He unconsciouslyplayed with his ring, kind of big for his now scrawny fingers, only staying inplace because of the way the wrinkled flesh had molded to it after so manyyears. If he moved it a bit, he could see even paler skin beneath. A permanentprint, eternal, drawn on him forever.

“I love you”He said, although he knew it meant nothing. It never meant anything. He alreadyknew he loved him, in fact, he knew that phrase couldn’t even cover hisadoration in the slightest. But there was something musical in it, poetic. Itwasn’t the meaning what brought them close whenever he said it, but maybe theintention, the drive, the need. He needed to tell him he loved him. It wasn’t adeclaration, they had got over confessions way too long ago already. It wasmore like a symbol, a piece of art, something pretty and enchanting to rejoicein. And that’s exactly why he felt like saying it right then “I love you, somuch”

“I love youtoo, solnyshko” Viktor closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, and Yuuri couldsee him grimace with effort “I really want to kiss you, but I don’t think I canmove right now”

“You canalways ask” He hadn’t meant his voice to sound like a sob, but it did. And ashe leaned in to kiss his lips, softly, lovingly, without paying attention tohis sore back, he feared he may start crying. He didn’t.

“Don’t giveme that face…I’m ok, Yuuri”

“No you arenot”

“I am, I amhappy” He said, closing his eyes, feeling the soft touch of his husband’s handas it cupped his cheek “You made me a happy man, love. You gave me a good life”

“Viktor…”Yuuri tried to speak, but his voice cracked and the sentence broke.

“It wasalways you…” He whispered, his lips felt heavy, and so did his lids “Remember thecup of China, when I was twenty-seven and you were twenty-three?”

“Of course” He nodded “Our first kiss”

“And the wedding? Remember how Yurio got drunk?”

They both laughed softly, ironically, clenching theirtangled hands.

“I could never forget that. I remember everything, everysecond I lived by your side” He stroked his cheek “The honeymoon, thecompetitions, adopting Lori…and then, even after we retired, everything we didtogether”

“Our trip to Paris…”

“That was wonderful”

“You see? How could I not be happy?” Yuuri still couldn’tget it, he couldn’t understand why the weary grin on his lips was genuine. Itwas ludicrous. “It’s all thanks to you. And you know why?” his husband asked,smiling cheekily and turning to kiss the palm of his hand “Because youtaught me the meaning of Life and Love”

“Hmm?” He sucked his lips inwards, seeing how theother’s breath got slower and slower with every passing second and how his eyeslost focus “And what’s the meaning?”

“Life may not be eternal…” He closed his lids,giving his hand one soft, shaky squeeze “But Love is”

In that moment, Yuuri saw his face falling gently to rest onthe side of the pillow and the grip on his fingers ceased. Every muscle relaxedand his lips, cold and pale, blew against his palm a deep, warm breath. Thelast one.

Only then, Yuuri allowed himself to cry.
