(Basically anybody who experiences periods can read this I just don't know what to tag it as)

Tav is described as having irregular periods and a heavy flow, which I know doesn't really leave it open to everyone. But it's true to my experience, so I'm sure some other irregular-period people can also appreciate this

(Also it's just a really self-indulgent story I wrote for me lmao)

You roll over in your bedroll again, groaning as quietly as you could as you clutch at your abdomen. An aching pain roiled just below your belly. And there it seemed determined to stay for however long it deemed fit.

Your moon bloods were always a shock - you never knew when they would happen and you never knew how long they would last, because the gods seem to think it’s funny to make it so relentlessly inconsistent. Not to mention how heavy they could be. After everything you’ve faced on your perilous journey so far, this was the fucking worst.

The pain rises to a peak. All you can do is curl in on yourself, hugging your stomach as tight as possible to will the pain away. Does it help? No. But there’s nothing else that could… Well…

You feel like an idiot when you knock on the wooden post outside Astarion’s tent. You were pretty sure he already knew of your problem, if the restlessness whenever he was near was any indication. You couldn’t imagine the temptation, but you could admire his resolve. That wasn’t why you were here.

He calls a muffled ‘Come in’ and you push aside the canvas door. You see the change instantly. The way his eyes darken with the scent of blood, his smirk more predatory than usual. You begin to wonder if this was a bad idea.

“Hello, darling,” he purrs, low and seductive. His book is set aside in favor of standing to greet you in the small space. His hands slide around your waist, nails pressing lightly into your spine. He leans down, pressing his nose to your pulse as he whispers, “You smell delicious.”

You clear your throat. “As tempting as that is…” You step back slightly, and he doesn’t try to stop you. Instead, he pulls his face from your neck and rests his hands at your sides. One more step and he would let you go entirely. “I just want to cuddle.”

He huffs, face scrunching in annoyance. “You come in here with a banquet between your legs, and all you want is to cuddle?” The irritation can hardly be read as genuine when his thumbs begin to rub circles into your hips soothingly.

“Mhm. My cramps and back are killing me,” you explain. You gesture back outside the tent. “I could go ask Gale, if you think you’ll be too tempted.”

“Don’t even think about it,” he hisses, but it’s an empty threat.

He pulls you with him back to the pile of pillows he was lounging in before, sitting down and leaning comfortably against the pile. You stopped, standing just before him, even as he nudged your hip toward him, silently telling you he was ready for you to join him.

“Are you sure you’ll be alright with…” You don’t know how to phrase it in a way that doesn’t sound strange. But your need to make sure he is comfortable wins out above everything else. “With smelling the blood all night?”

His eyes soften as he smiles. The tinge of animalistic hunger still lingers behind it, but your dismissal of his preposition has pushed it toward the back, almost entirely hidden. “I’ll be alright. I’m not starved enough to lash out at any moment, I swear.”

You frown. “You know that’s not what I’m worried about.”

He chuckles despite your scolding. “I know.” You give him a pointed look and he rolls his eyes with a sigh. “Yes, dear, I’ll be alright smelling your blood all night. Now are you going to stand there all night?”

Assured in his comfort, you finally lay down, draping yourself over him, legs slotting between each other and arms holding each other close, and your head resting on his chest. The first few times you cuddled like this, you were worried your weight would make him uncomfortable, or worse, remind him of his 200 years of abuse. But he insisted, when he didn’t want to be cradled to your chest, of course.

He rests a hand at your lower back and begins working his fingers into the aching muscles there. You sigh and relax further into him. He doesn’t need air, but his chest still rises and falls with slow breaths. It’s disconcerting without a heartbeat to accompany it, or it would be if it was anybody else. But it’s Astarion, and instead the sound of his breathing alone was soothing.

You rest there for a moment, eyes closed. The position you’ve taken eases some of the pain, hand-in-hand with Astarion’s nimble touch. For now, the pain is a little more bearable.

You lift your head to look at him. He’s already looking at you, soft and at ease, eyes round with affection. “If you want to, you can eat,” you tell him. You jump to add, “From my neck.”

He chuckles. “Thank you for clarifying,” he teases.

“Well, like you said, I’m here with a banquet. I don’t want you to suffer just because I’m not in the mood.”

“I’m hardly suffering, dear,” he assures. “But I will take you up on your offer.”

You smile as you tilt your head, exposing your neck to him. He sits up, shifting you as he does until you’re eye-to-eye, before he buries his face against the nearly-faded marks he’s left. He continues to rub your back as he uses his free hand to cup the back of your head, keeping you in place and steady. He takes his time to press kisses all around his target. Your moon blood makes you taste sweeter; your skin smells so enticing. But he can savor it later.

You only get two warnings he’s about to bite: the hand holding your head tangles its fingers in your hair, holding you more firmly in place, though still being gentle about it; and the flat of his tongue running along the old punctures.

The sharp pain of ice in your veins never lasts. His mouth sucks and tongues at the punctures, drawing your blood out with practiced ease and drinking it down greedily. You close your eyes and relax into it. You trust him. And the odd feeling of your blood being pulled from your veins like liquid through a straw and the dizziness that accompanies it is much more bearable without vision.

Once he’s had his fill, he pulls his mouth off your neck and licks languidly at the last few drops until your blood clots. He slowly lowers himself back into the cushions, careful not to worsen your light-headedness with the motion. You rest your head back on his chest like a rag doll, limp and tired. He cards his fingers through your hair a few times before simply wrapping his arm around you. He mindlessly continues to rub circles into your back, keeping the pain at bay for you to sleep.

You try to speak through half-intelligible thoughts as exhaustion and comfort begins to claim you. Mostly ‘thank you’s, though a heavily slurred ‘I love you’ surfaces once or twice. He gently sushes you. And then you’re fast asleep, as if speaking was the only thing keeping you awake.

And in the morning, well, he’s more than happy to take care of you.

south asian!ballister part three!

it's times like these where I can't help but feel a little bad for people who have little to no interest in these headcanons, because this is my third day in a row posting these and I feel as though they may be clogging up the tags a little bit

oH WELL

speaking of, part one is here, and part two is here!

also, I saw someone asking if people can use these in their own headcanons or fics or art and YES, absolutely yes!! but if you do, please tag me (or whatever the equivalent of that is, I'm still very new to tumblr, this is like my fourth post) because I would love to see it!!

okay I ripped up tumblr to find this but this stream of headcanons is inspired by this post!

specifically this part "I find the idea of Nimona not being able to handle spicy food but loving it at the same time hilarious Especially considering the fact that they’re living with two Asian men and Asians don’t play about spice (I swear to this day my Mama burned both her and my tastebuds off) They try really hard to look tough and eat all the food they’re given But snot is running down their face and there are tears in their eyes and they need to take constant breaks Poor baby coughs when you add sriracha to their food Whereas Bal and Ambrosius are out here guzzling hot sauce like it’s water Nimona prays on their downfall while also begging the boys to teach them their ways"

so, naturally, ballister and ambrosius have an incredibly high spice tolerance

back in their institute days, they would have little contests on who could intake the most spice without faltering

neither of them could consistently best the other, it was inconsistent results and basically was just a 50/50 situation

ambrosius is the kind of person to eat a ghost pepper straight and be like "oh that's kind of spicy" in the most casual but mildly interested voice ever. as if he's pleasantly surprised

pre-canon, ambrosius would have bal test the spice level of dishes, but post-canon, he realized that wasn't the best idea, so he gave the job to nimona instead

there's this south asian condiment called "achaar", and it's basically... okay I have no idea how to explain it but the wikipedia definition is South Asian pickles, also known as Avalehikā, Uppinakaayi, Pachadi, Loncha or Noncha, Achaar, Athāṇu or Athāṇo or Athāna, Khaṭāī or Khaṭāin, Sandhan or Sendhan or Sāṇdhāṇo, Kasundi, or oorugaai is a pickled food made from a variety of vegetables and fruits preserved in brine, vinegar, edible oils, and various South Asian spices.

it basically adds a sort of tangy spicy flavor to your food

and while that sounds kind of strange I swear it's good

actually I don't like achaar very much but I've heard from family members that it's good LMAO

anyways, ballister uses it religiously. he LOVES that shit

there is a jar of achaar on the table at all times

ambrosius doesn't like it and it's too spicy for nimona, but they get it anyways because of how much ballister likes it

speaking of food,

there are certain south asian foods that ballister really holds close to his heart

like, he got them at the orphanage, but never at the institute

so like, street foods

specifically pani puri (also called golgappa and probably more names) because it's my favorite

for those of you who don't know what that is, it literally translates to "water (pani) deep fried bread (puri)" but that is the worst explanation ever so just google it

ballister, obviously, can't cook anything except rice and chai (I mean, seriously, just look at him. he's banned from the kitchen), so he never learned to make any of those traditional south asian recipes he loves

one day, post-canon, ambrosius finds a place that specializes in pani puri and remembers ballister describing them to him pre-canon and decides to grab some

he brings them home and when he shows ballister, Ballister was silent for a moment, a tantalizing, tense moment that had Ambrosius all but holding his breath. His anxiety began rising as his gaze flickered from Ballister to his setup on the table and back again. Maybe I misread his reminiscence all those years ago, Ambrosius panicked internally. Oh god, maybe I completely misremembered it and he has no connection to this at all. Or, worse, I crossed a line I shouldn't have even approached. "Uh," Ambrosius managed an awkward chuckle. "I saw a place, and it reminded me of something you once said, and I thought it might be a good idea but I guess it wasn't and I probably shouldn't have led with 'I have a surprise you'll like' because that just sets up expectations and-" His rapid-fire speech was completely silenced when Ballister crossed the room in a few long strides, cupped Ambrosius's face in his hands, whispered "I love you so much." in a voice that sounded almost choked up, and kissed him.

anyways, south asian food, especially street food, holds an incredibly special place in his heart

this last one I'm kind of torn on my approach to it, but it still felt worth throwing in the pot

horrible pakistani dramas

god I hate them

so, there are two options here

option A, ballister hates them too

he can't stand them, he complains about them whenever they come up, if for whatever reason he has to watch one he'll rip apart the plot so much so that the writers would never recover if they heard him

or option B, ballister has a love/hate relationship with them

because let's be real, no one other than my thrice divorced aunt ACTUALLY likes them

now option B can go a number of different ways

maybe bal really hates the idea of them and hates the plot, but goddamnit it, they STILL get him stupidly invested in the plot to the point where he's yelling at all the characters in urdu and on the verge of ugly crying and going on an angry rant and just bundling himself up in a miserable blanket blob

or maybe he hates them in theory, but they're a guilty pleasure that he only really indulges in for the kind of entertainment where it's so bad it's entertaining

I honestly have no clue if ANY of those are in character, but I'm sure if I shoot either one of them or some combination of multiple, it'll be at least slightly accurate, right?

finally, two super short ones!

ballister has a rule against no shoes in the house

"oh, but he's seen wearing shoes in the house in the movie!" uh, yeah, in a dusty ass abandoned tower. only AFTER he had it all cleaned out and actually furnished (post-canon) did he (and ambrosius!) start taking off their shoes indoors

and

he sits down to eat or drink

even just a glass of water, he'll sit down for it

even if 'sitting down' entails sitting on a table

it's just a force of habit at this point

looking at my notes, that is actually everything I have written down! this means that these headcanons will probably cease now, as it might take me a while to come up with more.

Living on the road definitely had a lot of drawbacks.

Inconsistent housing, crappy junk diet, constant exhaustion from driving long hours. It definitely took it's toll. But, at the same time, it certainly made you appreciate the little luxuries in life.

Luxuries such as sleep ins. Early mornings where Dean would usually be on his way to the next job, but instead was half-asleep amongst the covers and pillows on the lumpy motel bed.

He groggily blinked his eyes, settling his vision on the man sitting on the couch to his left. Clearly he hadn't heard Cas fly inside, so the angel must have been sitting there for a while.

"Mornin' handsome." Dean mumbled with a grin, one arm dangling down the side of the bed. "Didn't hear you come in."

Cas smiled gently. "You sleep very soundly."

Dean gave a soft laugh. "Helps that I've got a guardian angel looking out for me."

Cas shook his head. Even in his half-conscious state Dean was such a flirt.

"Now get over here, I hardly ever get to cuddle you in the mornings."

Standing up from the sofa, Cas made his way towards the bed and climbed under the covers. As the two of them cuddled closer, Cas shifted his legs against Dean's. The moment his feet made contact though, Dean gave an audible shudder.

"Damnit Cas are you angels cold blooded or sumthin'?"

While Cas would normally apologise for any discomfort he may cause, Dean's legs were ridiculously warm - and the perfect place to nestle his feet. Cas wriggled his toes against Dean's thigh, purely trying to tease the hunter with the cold.

But it wasn't the temperature that made Dean recoil with a squeaky giggle.

"Gehet your freheezing ass feet off me." He pushed Cas's torso away, trying to squirm as best he could under the blanket.

With a grin, Cas poked and curled his toes even more against poor Dean's legs. The man broke into more giggles, yelping when a particularly cold patch of skin met his own.

"Cahahas!"

"What's the matter Dean, I'm just warming my feet up?" Castiel asked, the small smirk on his face betraying his innocent act.

"No yohohou're nohot!!"

Deciding his feet weren't quite getting enough of a reaction, Cas latched his thumbs onto Dean's hipbones and began to rub.

"CAHAHAHAS NOHOHO!"

"I'm sorry Dean, I didn't realise you were this ticklish!"

"LIHIHIAHAR!"

Cas's cruel hip torture was short lived, as Dean was forced into a surrender after only a few moments.

"Now my legs are cold." Dean huffed after catching his breath, though the remnants of a grin remained on his face.

"I could always warm you up..." Cas smirked, and his offer was accompanied by the rustling of his wings unfolding.

Dean didn't have a chance to reply, and the moment Cas's feathers made contact, the hunter knew he was fucked.

like i can't deny the chemistry because i'd have a lifetime supply of smoothies from the level of 🍓🍊🍌🥝🍇 in those c2 videos. but i just cannot indulge in it whatsoever

i can't even point to a specific moment that turned me from 'oh they have a fun teammate dynamic!' to a full-blown hater ('hater' is a bit strong but close enough) but it must've been something to do with the fans...

anyways, just wanted to express my gratitude for those tags. nice to know that i'm not alone

darling anon!! thank you so much for this ask - and oh, bestie, you are definitely not alone. you are so not alone, and i am actually hugging you rn, because it's always fab to find someone who agrees with your ship opinion 👌 sorry to the charlos fans out there, but it just can't be for us. #rip

and that third paragraph of yours - ah, man, i feel you so much. i also used to genuinely enjoy their teammate dynamic a lot (loved watching the c2 challenges, etc etc.) and i also can't quite point to a specific moment when this changed? but i do know the general themes about it, and since i had an incredibly long exhausting day at work today, i'm quite in the mood to rant about them. i will do so under the cut, though, lmao, because goodness knows i'm in a petty mood tonight.

any and all passionate charlos or just carlos sainz fans - please do not click on the readmore, because i'm not going to be terribly nice to your fav here, i'm afraid 🙃

so for me, when i first got into f1, it wouldn't have been inaccurate to say that i kinda loved carlos sainz. i loved the carlando/mclaren videos, and i loved the c2 challenges. he's funny, and he's pretty, and he has a cute dog, and he drives for ferrari... what more could you want?

the thing is, though. i am a charles girlie first and foremost. even though i liked carlos, he was never on the same level as charles for me. especially not in terms of driving - because, well, just look at the start of the 2022 season. enough said.

what started getting to me was that group of passionate carlos fans (the carlos girlies) who seemed to seriously think that carlos is a better driver than charles. they would slander charles and call him an inconsistent/reckless driver, while saying carlos was so much better. obviously, this rubbed me up quite the wrong way. and then at the same time, i was seeing carlos on my screen giving interviews where he would insist that if he'd had a few more laps, he would have overtaken max's red bull. like... i'm sorry, but that was never going to happen. in any world. pffft. (my thoughts at this point went: arrogant! he thinks he's better than he actually is.)

so that got me to like carlos himself a little less, which obviously has an influence on the ship as a whole. i mean, it would be hard to like a ship if you only really like one of the two partners in it, right? right? this is what i've always thought, anyway... except that a lot of charlos shippers seem to like carlos a lot more than charles. which is to say: in so many of their fics/characterisations, it's all glorifying carlos, while charles is essentially his arm candy with all the character depth of a rather pretty paper cutout. less than ideal...

the last thing, and perhaps the pettiest of all, lmao, is just that i'm incredibly possessive and insane about piarles. i acknowledge it. in fact, i fully own it. they are my ship, and i want them and only them to be endgame, always. now, obviously i don't expect everyone to agree with me 😂😂 but i don't particularly want to be seeing any content on my dash that features charles/anyone other than pierre as an endgame ship. and charlos usually is portrayed as an endgame ship/they're meant for each other etc. etc. well, sorry. to me, charles is meant for pierre, and pierre only. charlos is out. the end 🫶

your tags on that post you just rb’d (about dc being inconsistent and thus more open to fan interpretation) are so real that’s exactly how i feel about it

haven’t been reading the comics/watching the various animations + films for long but i have noted how differently characters and dynamics are portrayed per source

some of the writers (comics not fanfiction) can be a bit annoying when it’s clear that they don’t like the character they’re writing and it’s directly affecting how they write the character but for the most part it’s honestly kinda refreshing imo that dc has this yesterday does not reflect today sorta vibe when it comes to characterization and how the characters interact

like yeah let them be insane in different but complementary ways throughout the various forms of media <3 it’s a treat

they seem to do this especially with jason todd and like i’m all for it bc it opens up so many different ways fans can interpret his character in fanwork

there’s not really a right or wrong way to go about interpreting dc characters bc chances are, the source material has already portrayed them in that manner years back before scrapping it for a slightly different characterization (that still maintains a few core personality traits that act as the character’s signature)

kinda pick your own adventure in the sense that you can choose which canon version of the character/plot you like the most

Yes!! Exactly, yes - the funniest thing to me about writing fic for comics is that I'm p sure the Official comic artists and writers basically get a set of golden rules on the characters they're going to be writing for (batman must be x, dick grayson cannot do y, gotham must be grungy) but a lot of things are up to them.

While their stuff goes through edits and vets to make sure it will fit the canon...the canon is already one big, ongoing game of telephone. It's why we can sort comics ala the "golden age" vs the "silver age" and why these tonal shifts happen. So when you write fic, you're basically hitching a ride on this grand tradition lol you just don't have any industry standards you have to follow or edits that you have to make

And oh god, yeah, it can be very annoying when you figure out that a writer simply...does not like a character lol. Like, excuse me, DC, could you tag this for character bashing please

But I 100% agree, and i love that way you put it, that 'yesterday does not reflect today' - absolutely the vibe. The desire to be evergreen in comics means that they Will scrap things at a certain point to reintroduce a character so that they can tell a different story with them - which is fun! And very, very close to the nature of reading fanworks!

Every time I open a new fic, I have to reset the characters in my brain because a different author is writing them and will cherrypick the things they like about canon and about the characters. And Jason. Ough. Jason is such a fascinating character to me, not just because of the whole black sheep of the batfam thing he has going, but because of the absolutely divisive nature of him. (I still reel over the whole 'do you HATE this child? Would you like us to KILL HIM FOR YOU? Vote now and we'll brutally murder a teenager!' thing. Like what!! That happened!!)

You can't get away from how brutal he is (cool backstory, still murder) but there is a wiiiiide range of sympathy to play from. You can figure out a lot about how a person feels about the death penalty based on how they treat Jason Todd lol

But yeah, I kind of love the modular nature of comics - from a writer's standpoint it makes it so much easier to relax about getting it "right" because like. There is no right way and also a hundred right ways, and you're doing fine sweetie <3

Currently Miraculous Ladybug, Batman, and Maribat, but I've been known to dip into Doctor Who, Austin & Ally, and the Thundermans (though the Austin & Ally can only be found in the Internet Archive because middle-school-me was wild. And it has a different username so happy hunting lmao)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes! Because I feel guilty if I don't Because I don't honestly get a ton, so I can't be overwhelmed by it. If I was a big name, maybe I wouldn't reply to as many, but I don't get a ton, so I find it easier to handle. This is not me fishing for comments, I swear. I'm just as guilty of not commenting (I'm trying to do better, but I don't always remember, and I don't always have it in me. I do always kudos, though). I write for me (mostly), but if you enjoy it, great! If not, to each their own. But never feel obligated to comment on my fics. I would rather you read and say nothing than feel stressed/guilty for not commenting.

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

...hm. Considering the majority of my fics are either unfinished or prompted oneshots, I don't have a lot with angsty endings. I do have a lot with angst, though. Angsty ending? Hm. I'm going to have to go with I'm Gone, Gone, Gone, Gone.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Again with the ending thing 😂 It doesn't help that a lot of them are open-ended. And what kind of happy are we talking? Happy😁 or Happy 😏? But also you've asked one of the most indecisive people on the planet. The last one was easier. The whole thing is angst. (And I generally try to stick to happier/hopeful endings.) This, though? Pass. Someone else pick.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Not on AO3? But AO3 is also bigger, and I don't post a lot. I live in my dark little corner on the interweb. I think most of the hate I've gotten was on FFN, and even then, I don't get a lot. Perks of writing for big fandoms, updating inconsistently, and generally having shorter fics. You get lost in the mix. (This is not a brag, but it's also not a complaint. I'm happy in my corner. Well...I'm content. Not ecstatic, not suffering.)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Lots of smut. Does it all get posted? No 😂 Half, no, more than half of it doesn't even get written. You can guess on the kind. I have things that I won't write, but I feel like those are pretty limited. If I don't know it and it isn't a limit, I would probably at least try. (Ex: my most popular fic is a threesome, which I've never had, with a hemipene, which I've also never dealt with (I mean in the toy sense, I know human people do not have hemis.))

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I don't write a lot of them. I'm just dipping my toes into writing them (for now, solely Maribat). I've had a shit ton of ideas for them (years ago I had one for a Doctor Who x H2O: Just Add Water fic, but that remains an idea in my OneDrive)

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

If I have, I don't know about it. I'm a singular grain of sand in a whole beach of authors. I'm harder to find, and I'm certainly not well-written enough for it. (At least, not to me.)

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

As a general life rule, I don't have favorites lmao. Mostly because I'm indecisive as hell. Minimally because then something will be left out.

Gonna steal TalksToSelf's answer and go with: All of them 😭

16. What are your writing strengths?

Porn. Porn and Depression. Angst. Occasionally fluff. Mostly Porn, though.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Flow. Word variation. Consistency. Inspiration/Motivation. I could go on, but those are enough for now.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

Mostly, I'll write in italics/bold/(not quotes but I'm blanking... the two different apostrophes???)'these' and indicate what it was spoken in, but if it's a singular word/phrase, like a nickname, I normally just use the word itself, with an explanation for it at some point in the fic.

you tackled that tonks/lily post so gently, so elegantly, I am in awe. (also I wrote tonks / lily for efficiency sake but I do think it would be an interesting ship to explore!). for me - my priority in HP is sibling relationships tbh and FRIENDS. like I wrote a romance and 80% of it was about platonic relationships. also - I dislike how people are like 'mlm is for straight women!' and erase the fact that so many women writing mlm are queer (that was in a reply re: wolfstar), as shown by statistics (which you probably have, you are so clever!)

ahhh thank you that means a lot! glad my hard-earned wisdom from my (one year's 😂) long experience shipping both remadora and wolfstar is coming in handy LMAO. but seriously - fandom Means Something to so many people and that's wonderful, that shared passion and excitement and joy and connection and vulnerability, but the flip side of that, when it means different things to different people, the "why don't you see this the way i do?" / "how can you not care about this as much as i do?" / "why does this not mean the same thing to you as it does to me?" hits so much harder. i get it, it's a horrid feeling!

but i've realized that what often comes across as remadora bashing/ erasure from some wolfstar folks is really them trying to say, in maybe not so many words, that canon acknowledgement / a happy ending for wolfstar would really have meant a lot to me, and therefore i am creating in fic what i would have wanted to see on the shelf/on the screen, just these small ordinary happinesses that's been denied same-sex couples over and over and over and over, in mainstream media and in real life.

and conversely, often what remadora shippers are trying to say is that remus and tonks, individually and together, mean a lot to me too, and so it hurts to see tonks' character sidelined/ assassinated even more than it already was in the books, it hurts to see it repeatedly insinuated that just because it's het m/f makes it automatically less queer, less 'cool,' less valid, less worthy of thoughtful consideration and affirmation and celebration, especially now that canon is long dead and buried and the fandom has really become its own thing.

(i don't know the jegulus and jily fandoms well enough to say, but.. you get the idea)

are gay people and same-sex relationships discriminated against? absolutely. are women a marginalized group? for sure. what about bi people, especially bi folk in m/f relationships? oh gosh don't get me started.

but. one side claims misogyny, the other claims homophobia, something something 'protecting male friendships,' something something biphobia, … it's tiring. it's the oppression olympics and i'm not about that (especially in this fandom! this fandom!!! of all places!). i'm tired. everyone has scars and hurts and is just trying to have a nice relaxing self-indulgent time. i would love for more people to read/write femslash, fic about the actually unlikable or morally complicated characters, and dark fic, but more than that i want people to enjoy themselves and be happy in fandom! ship and let ship. write whatever you want. don't want to read it? don't read it. fandom is for joy and silliness and fun. and for writing and gifting me james/lily/peter fic, obviously 😊

OKAY WOW SOAPBOX. i have feelings about ship wars, especially of the political moralizing and activism sort.

anyway yes gen fic is another area that's so hard to find a community for. AO3 already does better than most in having the & tag (the platonic 'regulus & sirius' made it into the top 10 tags of fics written last year! amazing) but it's inconsistently tagged: this first war longfic i'm currently reading, Power the Dark Lord Knows Not, is far more sirius & james and sirius & regulus, heck even remus & peter and sirius & peter, than it is wolfstar, but the slash ship is the only one tagged -- this is a delightfully chaotic minerva & peeves oneshot that's not tagged -- and ... even if it IS tagged, who really goes looking for remus & professor binns fanfiction? i'm a little sad that genuary never really came back after that first year too. ah well.

re: beta tag chat – i'm a fic writer, and there's also the fact that some betas just aren't very good, lmao. sometimes i show my fic to someone and they make absolute trash suggestions. fully unhinged and also quite simply grammatically wrong. so something having been beta read is not necessarily a mark of quality 😅

I did think of this as well! The beta doesn’t even have to be bad, incompatible writing styles and characterizations would also create inconsistency. It’s not as if there are certified betas out there offering standardized services. 😅

I didn't really consider r/nance the first time I watched the show so my first introduction to the ship was canon interpretation and for a long time I was super onboard. So when I started writing a long slow burn st/ddie fic starting pre-season 1 I figured I'd throw r/nance in there since I liked it at the time and I tagged it as background and eventual, but then I rewatched the show and nancy sucks at relationships in general and tends to be condescending to Robin in particular. It's obviously framed as jealousy since she thinks she's with Steve.

Idk I feel like the duffers did want us to view Robin as being, like, Nancy's first real regular (as in nonromantic) friendship since Barb and she's getting over her trauma, yay. And that's where a lot of it came from in the fandom, Nancy being pleased that Robin considers her a friend "officially." Also like "they're friends! That confirms compatibility!" Not really? The duffers really don't want to address Nancy's cheating because there are so many aspects of Nancy that I think Robin would not be able to get over if she knew about. That in particular. All of Nancy's negative traits are, in the show, portrayed as girlboss so the duffers never want to address them (and also those traits can sometimes be inconsistent to fit the girlboss image the duffers are trying to push; they just kind of change her character when it doesn't work for her narrative)

Anyway, I had tagged this fic already and now I'm having to go way out of my way to write a character arc for her. Like, even going in though I was like "r/nance is cute but Robin would never date her knowing she'd cheated on Steve" so an early correction I made was to make it so they'd already broken up when she got with Jonathan (also I made Steve and Jonathan friends between seasons so I don't think my version of Jonathan at that point would have been complicit) but that was the only problem I saw with the ship when I started writing and then i rewatched the show and it's becoming a huge problem from a practical writing standpoint and I hope my followers appreciate all the effort I'm putting into her arc because I'm never writing r/nance again

hey, at least you’re giving her a character arc instead of just ignoring all her flaws! which is the method the duffer brothers decided on! and if your readers don’t appreciate all that extra work i will. improving r//nance plot lines one fic at a time! and honestly good on you for continuing to write it, if i was you i’d just orphan it lol

but yeah, totally agree on all your points about why the ship wouldn’t work, and why nancy as a character is just bad in relationships.

also i totally do that all the time. read fics and decide i like a ship, and then rewatch the show and realise it’s so shit lmao

I don't engage with Gavin Reed content mostly because he goes from an abusive person who "gets what he deserves" to "the best man ever known" (yes that's what he was presented as in that one fic smh) depending on what fic you are reading lol so nah, not for me. Too inconsistent.

Disliking him as a character is very valid. Liking him and developing him into whatever the hell you want him to be is very valid as well.

Not liking the idea of him being gay doesn't make you homophobic wth?!

Reed900 is not inherently toxic nor abusive. Not only does Rk900 not actually have any character/personality, but also, no where in my post did I ever suggest at Gavin getting abused, nor did I ever suggest it would be funny. Abuse is not funny. I simply pointed out the fact that 1. Gavin hates androids, and 2. Shipping him with an android is a hilarious response. I find it curious why your mind turns to abuse. What on earth makes you think Rk900 would be abusive? Y'all are the same ones arguing we make shit up by hyperfixating on his character - which is true, and we're allowed to do it - but you're doing the same by just, for some reason, assuming it'd be an abusive relationship??? Come on.

No where did I say you had to ship Reed900. I just questioned how more Gavin Haters didn't find it funny to do so. Because, as I said in my tags, which you clearly read, I used to hate Gavin too, and the only reason I shipped Reed900 in the first place was because I thought it was hilarious. Because it is. Nor did I say you had to invest your time. Invest your time in whatever you want. I could not care less. But clearly you like investing time in hating Gavin somewhat, or you wouldn't have bothered to anonymously whine about a shitpost in my asks. You'd have simply moved on. If you hate Gavin so much, block the Gavin tag. That's why I tag him. So Haters stay away.

I never said disliking him being gay was homophobic - but every person who's attacked me before for calling him gay have been homophobes and that's what I was talking about in my tags. I understand there are people who don't want Gavin Reed to be gay, because they hate Gavin, so they don't want a character they hate to be gay. That's fine. I get that.

I do appreciate your acknowledgement that fans can develop him into something greater. I'm breaking apart your arguments, but that's a good stance to have and I'm glad you have it. He was used as a plot device, nothing more, so fans do what they want with him. If you don't want to care about him, that's fine. But ultimately, it was a shitpost, and I'm tired of constantly having to argue an unnecessary point to people who take me way too seriously. You don't have to ship Reed900. I just think it's funny to think about, even jokingly, shipping a character who hates androids with an android. That is all.

1. unlikely found families! especially when they're the villains of the show they're in lol. i'm weak when it comes to murder families. hannigram+abigail hobbs, lov+shie hassaikai from bnha, jigsaw apprentices.

2. whodunnit fics. it's especially funny if it's for a show without murder or any supernatural stuff. rip dwight from the office you would've loved a who's the killer episode (jim did it btw. it was a prank)

(now that i think about it. abed my beloved from community would have so much fun with it too)

3. (mostly) normal guy turns evil. adam, lynn, strahm. they mean the world to me.

4. inconsistent objects for the time period. smart phones, flip phones and payphones existing in the same time. cd collections and mp3 players and boxy televisions. everyone knowing a movie or a song that just came out in 2022.

5. t4t relationships. i'm not even gonna explain this one lmao

bonus: character studies about those who are misunderstood by the audience to the point most people think character's only traits are being cold and emotionless and uncapable of love, when they're clearly shown caring for another multiple times.......... i Will defend them with my life
