4 years of Druck s3 - week 10
Things of note in this episode:
1. I really love this scene and the care that’s been taken with it. But I loathe trying to get screenshots of it. It’s so blurry!!!!! But in the scene itself I kind of like that - it allows some softness to what’s happening. All those harsh lights and hard edges from their reunion are gone and all that’s left is this, the soft moments and their togetherness. It also allows some measure of privacy . It’s kind of beautiful as a message, but I still hate trying (and always failing) to get a good shot of it.
2. I really enjoy that while Matteo (and actually most obviously David in this episode) is still working through some stuff, the show really emphasises that he has people around him. People who love and support him (and David). There are so many scenes where Matteo isn’t just with a group, but an intrinsic and welcome part of it. not on the sidelines anymore but right in the middle of everyone. It’s shown in the scenes themselves and also in the social media. Where at the start he had a façade where he pretended to be in the mix on social media but in the show itself we saw how truly isolated he was. But now the two match up, and his behaviour comes across and more natural and he seems genuinely happy rather than what he was pretending to feel earlier.
3. I obviously can’t leave this episode without talking about these two and how well they work together. From the ‘morning after’ clip where Matteo gives David space and time to talk about his experiences and validates him for being ‘good the way you are’ through the way they both need the connection and comfort with the boys (Matteo who appears low energy in this clip and David who is meeting his boyfriend’s friends properly for the first time), to the last clip where they are able to have these moments together tuning everyone else out and being in their own little world. They understand each other and naturally give each other what they need. Compare this to the earlier stages where there were proto-versions of this but because they still had secrets it wasn’t able to bloom properly. I love that now they don’t have to have a ‘fake’ life together and they are able to live a real authentic life publicly.
4. My boy himself. He still has the same core to him. He’s still introspective, can get overwhelmed, can need downtime and to be quiet even as he enjoys being with others. But the big thing is that a) he feels happier in himself, calmer and more willing to be himself and b) he allows himself to feel these things and behave in this authentic way with others. Instead of the exhausted emotionally distant boy of the start of the season, we have this secure, confident boy who has no trouble expressing what he wants and letting people see him for who he truly is. It’s really lovely to see him come so far.
5. Honourable mention to David's art for the abi chaker group. It’s very bright and cool, and while I hadn’t seen it in ages, I realised it’s almost exactly what I was picturing as I wrote my big bang fic. Somewhere in my subconscious I obviously remembered it. But also - I have to say, David, my child, I love you I really really do. But I have to point out that there are more people in this year group who are graduating than your boyfriend and his friends. It’s so funny how much of it is this group of people. I guess that really shows who David likes and trust the most after his experiences this season.
