I have more of an idea than I request. I’m not a writer and have a lot of anxiety so I know I would never do anything with it lol. Maybe you might get some inspiration from it one day 😊

Jane and her sister (reader), visit Asgard together whenever Jane wants to see Thor in his home world. What everyone doesn’t know is that Loki and reader have been having a secret affair since she started visiting with Jane. ((Insert smutty goodness 😈😈))

They are there for another visit but something is off with Loki. He’s acting as though he has no relationship with the reader at all. Almost like they never happened. During a feast their first night in Asgard, Odin makes an announcement that Loki is engaged to a princess from another realm. After some time secretly wallowing, reader learns that this princess happens to also be a very powerful sorceress who has erased the memory of Loki’s true love.

The only way to break the spell? The reader has to die. And Loki has to be the one to kill her. I’ll leave how it would end to you. I would love a happy ending but with a situation like that I couldn’t really think of one 😬😬

Again not a request, I’ve just had this in my head for so long and you’re one of faves on here so if anyone can turn it into something it would be you.

True Love Lost...

Pairing: Loki x female reader

Warnings: a touch of anxiety, a dash of smut, rough sex, soft Dom loki, fluff, angst, no happy ending in this part, yelling.

Summary: you had been accompanying your sister Jane to Asgard for a year when she wanted to see Thor, but you had a little secret of your own....

Part one-

You finished packing your bags when you heard a knock on the door. "Hey, you ready to go?" Jane asked stepping inside. "Yes, let's go." You smiled hoisting your bag over your shoulder. You both walked out to the front yard, standing on the scorched earth circle. "Heimdall, open the bifrost." Jane called out as you were engulfed in the rainbow lights, shooting through space before landing in the golden room, leaning over to keep your lunch down, you would never get used to that.

"Jane, y/n! Welcome back!" You heard Thor as you looked up seeing him run to Jane, lifting her in a hug before coming over to wrap his large arms around you. "Brother, let's try not to break the poor girl." You heard behind him as he set you down. He turned and you spotted Loki standing with his arms crossed, a look of indifference on his face. "Just having some fun brother, you should try it sometime." Thor laughed wrapping an arm around Jane "when I am not being held prisoner I might." He snarked walking over to you picking up your bag.

"Lady y/n, if you'll follow me I'll show you your chambers." He said nodding "she's had the same room for a year Loki, I think she knows the way?" Thor said laughing "Well excuse me for being cordial." Loki said turning towards him. "I don't mind, really. I'd get lost in my own." You said giggling "after you y/n." Loki said slightly bowing. You walked through the large hallways in silence, keeping your eyes forward as you made your way to your room, keeping distance from Loki as to not touch him. You made it to the large wooden doors, Loki opened it motioning for you to go in as he followed quickly behind you.

You heard your bag drop as you were grabbed and your back pressed against the wall, Loki's lips pressed firmly to yours as both his hands cupped your cheeks. He pulled back looking into your eyes "do you know how hard it was not to take you in front of eveyone." He purred, his hands sliding down your neck. "Less talk, more kissing." You panted, grabbing the back of his head pulling him forward as your tongue pushed past his soft lips, hearing him growl as you sucked on his tongue, your other hand sliding down grabbing his ass dragging his hips to yours.

His hands slid down your sides, pinning you to the wall as you wrapped your legs around his waist, his hands gripping your thighs. He pulled back looking at you smiling "someone is ravenous today." He smirked as you panted, pulling as his tunic "I want you Loki, i...I need you....now." You breathed seeing his pupils blown wide with lust "You have me." He breathed, wrapping an arm around your back pressing his lips to your neck, nipping at the sensative skin. locking your ankles behind him as he backed away from the wall, one hand gripped his tunic as you dug your fingers in his hair.

He walked towards the bed, peppering kisses along your jaw, you pulled hair, tilting his head as your lips found his again. Not breaking the kiss he kneeled on the bed, slowly laying you down as you bit his bottom lip, making him moan into the kiss. You unlocked your ankles as he leaned back, gazing down at you, seeing a knife appear in his hand. "do you like this shirt?" He asked pulling on the bottom "not parti.." you started as he placed the knife under the hem, cutting up slowly as he looked into your eyes. You could feel your arousal pooling in your core as he sliced the top, baring you to him. "No bra, how naughty." He purred as he set the knife by his leg, slowly running his hands up your stomach, gently cupping both of your breasts making you close your eyes.

"I have not seen you in weeks, keep those beautiful eyes open for me." He purred as you opened them, gazing into his. "You are so beautiful, so...perfect." He breathed as he leaned down, wrapping an arm under your back holding you to him as his tongue swirled around your nipple, you hand returning to his his hair as you felt him suck and nip before giving your other breast the same attention. He peppered kisses down your stomach, leaning back with a smirk be hooked his fingers under the hem of your leggings, sliding them down your legs "and no panties, you are a little minx aren't you?" He smiled, running his hands along the inside of your thighs.

"Lokiii....please loki I need to feel you." You whined making him laugh. He leaned over you, propping himself on his elbows rubbing his nose to yours "as much as I would love to take my time with you, I'm afraid we must hurry as not to arouse suspicion." He purred gently kissing you. Feeling his clothes disappear you arched your back, pressing your chest to his "but I assure you tonight, you will be totally, and utterly satisfied, I will not stop until you cannot scream my name any longer and your legs give out." He said sternly, sending a shiver up your spine. "Is that what you desire love?" He asked as you felt his cock pushing lightly against your entrance "God yes Loki, please!" You called out as he pressed into you, you both gasping as he bottomed out.

He slowly rocked his hips back and forth, the rhythm driving you mad. "Harder, loki please.." you moaned, wrapping you hands around his back "Mmm does my little minx want it rough?" He punctuating the last word with a hard thrust, hitting your cervix. "God Loki..yes!" You yelled out "don't worry love, your God will answer your prayers." He moaned as he sat back on his knees, gripping your hips hard, pulling you to him with each thrust making you cry out. "Who do you belong to?" He asked sternly "You loki, I....i...belong to..ahh..you!" You yelled as he slammed into at an inhuman pace. "Who does this perfect cunt belong to?" He growled, lifting your hips so he hit that sweet spot making you scream "You Loki! Its...ahh...only for you!"

"I can feel you clenching around me, are you going to come?" He asked pulling you to him hard "y....yes....yes.....I'm gonna...." you gripped the sheets in your fists, throwing your head back as your orgasm began to build "Come with me my minx...come now." He growled, slamming into holding himself there, feeling him spill inside you triggering your orgasm as you yelled his name. He pumped into you a few more times, riding you through your high before he slowly pulled out laying next to you panting. You layed there staring at the ceiling in total bliss when his voice pulled you back "I wasn't too rough was i?" He asked, looking over seeing his beautiful eyes watching you "Absolutely not, that was....aahh....." you trailed off hearing him laugh.

"I missed you so much darling." He said, laying on his side to look at you "I missed you too Lo, so much." You said mirroring his position. You both froze hearing a knock on the door. "Y/n, it's almost time for for dinner." Jane said on the other side "I just need to shower and I'll be right there." You called out. "Well, I better take my leave before my oafish brother comes searching for me." He said standing up, in a flash of green his tunic and leathers appeared back on him. You got up, wrapping your arms around his neck "I'll see you at dinner yes?" You asked as he smiled "yes love, and there is something I wish to discuss with you tonight when we are alone." He said, leaning down kissing you. "Ok, I'll see you soon Lo." You smiled, stepping back as he smiled and In a green puff he was gone. "I wish I could do that." You laughed heading to the shower.

A few days later you hobbled to breakfast, Loki had kept his word, satisfying you completely as he took you on every surface, in every position. You lost track of how many orgasms he pulled from you that night, and the three nights since. You went to sit down next to Jane, wincing as your behind touched the chair, remembering the spankings you received. "Y/n, are you alright?" You heard Thor ask, looking up locking eyes with Loki seeing him smirk "Yes, yes I'm fine. I took one of the horses out yesterday and I'm a bit sore." You explained as he eyed you. You looked at Loki again, remembering the talk you had.

"Love, I've been thinking. I want to talk to mother about us." He said, wrapping a piece of your hair around his finger "aren't you still on probation kinda though. What if odin finds out?" You asked. "That is why I want to speak with her, she won't tell him." He smiled. "I am tired of hiding y/n, I love you and I want everyone to know we belong to eachother." He said cupping your cheek. "I want that too Lo, I love you so much I just worry about him." You said looking into his eyes. "I will find a way to be with you y/n, no matter what. We'll run away if we must." He said sternly "ok Loki, I'm with you, I'm always with you no matter what you decide." You smiled, laying your head on his chest. "I do love you y/n, with all my heart." He said wrapping his arm around you "I know, I love you too, more then anything." You said as you slowly drifted off.

"Y/n, you there?" Jane asked waving her hand in front of you "Yes, sorry i was somewhere else, what was that?" You asked "we will need to cut our visit short unfortunately, we have diplomats from Vanahiem arriving tomorrow and we must prepare." Thor said as you nodded, you hoped you would get more time with Loki. "But. There is a feast in a couple of weeks and I want you both there." He smiled. You headed to your room to pack, disappointed you couldn't stay longer when you felt two arms wrap around you "what is wrong love?" Loki asked kissing your neck. "I don't want to leave, i...I wanted to stay longer." You whispered, feeling a tear stream down your cheek as Loki turned you around.

"None of that love, I will be speaking with my mother soon, we will be together. Do you trust me?" He asked, wiping the tear away as you nodded. "Know how much I love you. I will burn all the realms to the ground to be with you." He said as you looked into his eyes. "There is something I wanted to ask, I was going to wait but.." he said cupping your cheek. He held out his hand, a small green box appeared in his hand as he slowly knelt down "y/n, you have brought so much joy and love to my life, things I never felt I deserved or would find. You are my heart and my light. Will you be my wife?" He asked, opening the box you saw a green emerald in it's center, small diamonds circling it on a gold band. You looked at him, seeing him smile nervously you kneeled in front of him "Loki, nothing would make me happier." You smiled as he lunged forward, gripping you in a bone crushing hug.

He leaned back, taking the ring from the box sliding it on your finger. "I understand if you don't wear it around Jane..." he started as you put your hand on his mouth. "No Loki, I will never take it off. I am yours and you are mine, and like you said I don't want to hide anymore." You said, slowly sliding your hand down as he kissed your palm. You heard a knock making you jump "Come on y/n, heimdall is waiting." You heard Jane. "I'll be right there." You said not looking away from Loki. "I will see you in two weeks, and hopefully my mother will have a solution." He smiled as you lunged forward hugging him tight. "I'll miss you Mischief." You whispered into his hair. "And I'll miss you sunshine." He whispered back.

You both pulled back as he grabbed the back of your head slotting his lips over yours, his tongue slipping past your lips, moaning into the kiss as your tongues explored eachother, your hands wrapped around his back pressing yourself againt him. He pulled back, pressing his forehead to yours "I will long for your return my love." He said "me too." You said. Silence overtook the room as you held eachother, committing everything to memory. "Come love, I'll walk you to the bifrost." He said cupping your cheek kissing you one more time as he stood, holding his hand out helping you up. He grabbed your bag, throwing it over his shoulder he walked to the door opening it "after you ma' lady." He smiled and bowed making you laugh.

You walked down the long hallways, your hand brushing his, interlocking your fingers as you make your way to Heimdall, dropping your hands when you walked into the bifrost. He handed you your bag, mouthing a silent "I'll miss you" as you took it mouthing "I'll miss you too." As you joined Jane at the arched doorway. Looking back seeing Thor and heimdall taking, Jane looking at something you looked at Loki, making a heart with your fingers seeing him smile before doing the same, stopping as Thor turned around. "Jane, y/n we will see you both in two weeks." He said as the bifrost turned on, the lights flooding the room. You took one last look at Loki smiling as the lights engulfed you, sending you back.

Two weeks later you were in your room packing your bags again, looking down at the ring Loki gave you. You hoped his mother had found some way to help, you couldn't bear having to leave him again. "Come on Jane let's go." You yelled running outside. "Calm down I'm coming." She laughed as you stood in the burnt circle, calling to hiemdall you were engulfed in the lights, standing in the golden room. "Ladies, how was the trip?" You heard Thor as he walked over hugging Jane. You looked around but Loki was nowhere to be found. "Hey Thor, where's your brother? Hes been here everytime we arrive?" You asked as cooly as you could.

"Oh, he's um..indisposed if you know what I mean." He said winking as you furrowed your eyebrows. "Umm..." you stared "Thor, maybe you should take Jane to her chambers, she needs rest." Heimdall said suddenly as Thor nodded, grabbing her bag wrapping an arm around her shoulder. You leaned down grabbing your bag "Lady y/n, may I have a word?" Heimdall asked as you stepped closer. "I know of your...situation with the prince." He said as you began to fidget "Well we...I mean he..." you stuttered as he held his hand up. "Lady y/n, I only wish to warn you. Whatever happens, you must remain strong, vigilant. What happens must happen." He said returning to the center of the room.

You stood there, confused as you slowly walked out towards the palace. You made it to your room, not seeing Loki once, you feared he was in the dungeons again. You put your bag inside and headed to his room to find him. You walked down the hall, about to round the corner when you heard a woman giggle "I love you so much." You heard her say "I love you too darling." You heard making your heart fall into your stomach. You leaned around the corner, and there against the wall was the tallest most beautiful woman you had ever seen, long flowing hair, perfect skin, basically the opposite of you. And leaning on the wall in front of her....Loki. gazing lovingly into her eyes as if she was the only thing that existed.

"I must go, but I'll see you tonight my prince." She said as he leaned forward, pressing his lips to hers. "I'll see you tonight." He smiled as she walked away. You turned the corner walking up to him "who was she Loki?" You demanded as he stared at you "I beg your pardon?" He asked furrowing his eyebrows "I said who is she!?" You yelled as he stared at you "that is not your concern, who are you?" He asked crossing his arms. "Umm your fiance, don't play these stupid games with me." You said "wait, aren't your that oaf's betrothed's sister?" He asked "uh yeah, you know that!" You yelled "You will watch your tone mortal, we are not on Midgard." He growled as you stared.

"W..what is happening?" You asked "I think your brain may have been damaged in the biforst, you should see the healers, now good day." He nodded walking away. You rushed after him grabbing his arm "but Loki. Why.." you started "take your hands off me!" He yelled turning around. "I'm not sure what delusion you are under, but you will not address me in such a casual manner." He said sternly. "Now if you will excuse me, I have duties to attend." He said turning to leave, this time you let him. When he looked at you his eyes were cold, distant. They held no love for you....

Whatever happened while you were gone...took your true love away from you....

Hello everyone! I can’t believe I’ve hit this milestone, it’s crazy to think that there’s 1.5k of you guys…… wow. Since I didn’t celebrate my 1k milestone, I figured I’d try to do something for this one :) I thought I’d try to do a sleepover, though it’s my first time so bear with me lol Before I get into what will be included in the sleepover, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported my writing since I began posting all the way back in 2021. Yes. Sometimes it takes me a while to reply, but I always try to. I'm so grateful to anyone who takes the time to leave me a comment. (Also, I'm a 20 year fandom veteran, and back in the day it was considered the norm to reply to comments.)

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I write a lot of oneshots, so there are quite a few with unhappy endings, lol. What comes to mind is Honor Above All Else (OUAT, Robin Hood/Regina Mills, G). OH WAIT. No, it's got to be Just a Dream (Labyrinth, Jareth/Adult Sarah, M).

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Maybe Three Months on Vulcan (Star Trek ENT, Trip/T'Pol, T)?

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Only once. Back in the day, there were some antis who were super offended when we kept shipping Regina and Robin Hood (OUAT) when his wife came back from the dead (which turned out not to be his wife). Someone left a review on a fic that I was supporting infidelity and I was a horrible person. I deleted the comment. Ain't nobody got time for trolls. ;)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I have very, very few M-rated stories. Usually I just pan to the sky, but when I don't, it's because I feel it serves the story somehow and it's generally more poetry and emotion than descriptions of the mechanics.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Only twice. The funnest one is When Fairy Tale Meets Mythology (OUAT/MCU, Loki/Jane Foster, Emma Swan/Killian Jones, T).

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I'm aware of, but these days, I wouldn't be surprised.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

I was asked a couple of times, but never got the links of the finished product. *shrug*

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Oh, yeah. I've done round-robins, fandom Big Bangs, etc. Not recently though.

14. What's your all-time favourite ship?

That's like asking me to pick a favorite child (and I happen to have six of those). You can't make me!

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Want to finish but probably won't? Maybe my unfinished Outlaw Queen stories?

16. What are your writing strengths?

Oneshots. I can short-story like a champ.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Finishing multi-chapter stories. Ugh.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I've done it, though I've tried to keep it to a minimum, making sure it serves a purpose. I also try to make it easy to guess the meaning with context and always, always include the translation in the end notes. OH. And if it's a real language (unlike Vulcan), I try to get the help of a native speaker rather than rely on Google Translate.

Your writing isn’t just “pretty good”. That anon either doesn’t care enough to find other words to describe your work, or is plain wrong. I’m not a writer, I’ve never written anything that wasn’t for school, but your work makes me want to write. It makes me feel like I CAN write. It’s impeccable. And idk if a lot of other people feel that way about asgardians saying “gods” but I’m pretty sure they’re the outlier. Most people probably just ignore it. Calling it bland makes no sense.

yeah, idk honestly. I feel like the previous anon was maybe just not sure what to put there, but it felt intentional, so I'm not sure. Obviously, I don't have a read into their head to understand why they wrote what they did and the intention behind it, so I think it was probably just a word choice rather than an insult? again, not sure. I'm really not inclined to think that people are being malicious, so I don't think that's what this was.

And even if it WAS, okay. it's fine. my writing is not everyone's cup of tea and I get that. No writer is ever going to be universally liked, it's just impossible.

Calling it bland makes no sense." <- Honestly, I'm not the first person to have done it. Where do you think I got the idea? Fics in the same fandom mimic the same expressions and word choices a lot. That's why Loki calls Frigga "Amma." That's why Thor and Loki say "norns" when they swear and there's been an increase of Norweigan in fics recently.

Honestly, I don't know why it's bland to try and expand Asgard's culture without info dumping. I try to base Thor and Loki's expressions off of norse mythology and vikingar culture. There's something about some sort of sword ritual in YSFSLWFTCA between Thor and Jane mentioned somewhere, that's a vikingar thing. It's just stuff like that so it feels more connected because it's obvious Asgard had a huge influence on earth. I don't know.

2. Share a snippet of an old wip that you never posted.

This is me sweating, looking over my WIP folder haha...and opting to absolutely kinkshame myself.

You licked your lips, took a breath, and pushed - just as you saw Theo wheel about, his features still tightly locked. “I don’t want to have to make that choice. Don’t make me choose. I can’t.” The very prospect lanced through you, keen and wounding, and you willed them both to understand all of the other things you weren’t sure how to voice just yet.

“I don’t want you to have to, either,” came Vincent’s soft reply.

Then there were warm lips and teeth at your wrist, and the whole world tipped. A breath of pain followed by pleasure, and the last thing you saw as your eyes slid shut on an undone cry was Theo's own, gleaming foxfire bright as they held yours.

You swayed, unbalanced as the muscles deep within you tightened, until the mattress sank beneath a weight on the other side of you and a hand was at the small of your back to steady you. Warm despite the layers of fabric and boning separating you.

“You know that blood isn’t all we’re going to want.” Theo’s voice, rough at your ear, clearly wasn’t pitched in a question. Fingers caught your jaw and traced along until they snagged at the point of your chin, dragging your gaze to his just in time for it to flicker down and meet his brother’s. Something silent and laden in that small glance they exchanged. “Give yourself to us. All of you.”

“Theo. Don’t bully her into anything.” Vincent’s chide was a soft warm breath across your damp wrist as he lifted his head, offering you a gentle smile. “You can say no. You can say no anytime, too. But I hope you say yes.” The brothers traded another of those coded looks, before a hint of unexpected devilry crept into Vincent’s expression. “Theo and I are very good at sharing...we always have been.”

12. Favorite ship you’ve written/the ship you write for the most?

Actually, the answer isn't otome related at all. Before I got into the fandom I was writing mostly for the obscure ship of Loki/Jane Foster...and I'm not sure any other pairing before or after will ever quite spark the mania that did. Half the fics I have posted on AO3 are for them...and absolutely most of the words I've written are.

15. How do you stay on track story-wise?

Bold of you to assume I do...have you seen my 'update' schedule? No? Oh right that's because it doesn't exist T_T My brain jumps from one topic to the next, and I just have to pray it stays still or circles back around enough times to produce something comprehensible.

That said I have been trying lately to sit down and make myself write on a daily basis, even if not much comes of it. I block off X amount of time and the only thing I'm allowed to do is write or think about writing. Even if that ends up just me staring blankly out the window drinking my cup of tea haha

30. What inspires you to write?

I think it's reading other stories that just really move me. When I fall in love with characters or just love the world and story being told so much then it inspires me to expand more on that world/those characters (in the case of fanfiction) or write my own stories that inspire the same emotions in other (in the case of original fiction).

37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?

I typically write in third person. I think it's mostly a habit because I write sci fi/fantasy the most, and in those genres third person is most common. I also like to write from multiple POVs, and I think that can be confusing if you write in first person. First person is cool, though, and can really get you in the head of your protagonist in a visceral way. I might try it some time!

44. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

Oh my gosh that's such a hard question!! I think @amukmuk's fic Bodyguard is one of my all-time favorites. I know that Perception is probably her best-known Foxiyo fic but Bodyguard really got me feeling some kind of way. I also love this Loki x Jane Foster fic that is so long and twisty and crazy. I don't know if it will ever be finished but I'm kinda obsessed with it. I also love this Legolas x OC fic that also might never get finished but really captures the LOTR style so well without being too stuffy or boring.

on the subject of thor 4 with some spoilers and a lot of me just being hopelessly gay

1 starlord and thor definitely made out at some point and you can't convince me that thor didn't leave specifically because he was catching feelings for starlord, and was pulling away while secretly hoping that starlord would reach out to him and ask him to stay. after i'm done with this i'm opening an ao3 tab and i am looking up fics

2 partway through the movie (after the sink scene) i found myself asking "this isn't going to end up with a poly thor/jane/val relationship because i know the world isn't ready for that but by god do i fucking want it." i will also be opening an ao3 for this as soon as i am done writing this post

3 DWAYNE!!!!!!!!! i was legit crying in the theatre at that point and i literally choked out a combination between a sob and a laugh

4 oh my fUCKING GOD THE PLAY!!! I almost cried laughing when Melissa McCarthy popped through the "portal" as hela.

5 i guess people are mad about how they introduced Axl by having Thor deadname him, and like trying to cancel Taika over it. but my trans ass was just fucking hyped to have a transmasc character like me on screen! also of COURSE thor is a dumbass who would deadname someone because he didn't know what the fuck was going on, someone had to pull him aside after the movie and explain it to him i just know it.

6 when the movie releases to streaming i am going to find the clip of korg narrating about loki dying and i am going to watch it on repeat until my eyes rot

7 the after credits scene that is setting up a sequel was great until they revealed Hercules and it's that fucking guy i keep seeing in gifsets of that soccer show (it is soccer right?? i'm pretty sure it's soccer) that seems like he's in a three way relationship with another soccer dude and their mutual girlfriend. I may have laughed.

8 i remember shortly after the avengers movie when there were apparently talks by marvel to replace Chris Hemsworth, they had apparently seen all the actors but RDJ as as replaceable as Edward Norton was. But today he's in the credits as an executive producer on thor 4. i'm glad

9 STOP KILLING THE PEOPLE THOR LOVES!!! like he' got a daughter and I'm happy for him to have someone to love in his life again but i am so sick of pretty much all the other people he loves dying. I was watching Jane dye in his arms like "NOOOOOOOO" because i realized just how horrible this is for thor to be going through. if you're of adult age and thor cares about you you are at risk of dying and that's not cool.

10 jane was going through chemo, she shoulda been bald whenever she wasn't thor and frankly i'm bothered she wasn't

11 i'm going through the tag and someone got a close up of one of thor's back tattoos that's a list of people he's lost and there is literally a question mark after the name loki and i am crying all over again. he's never going to be sure loki is truly gone because he saw loki die and return two times. thor 5 PLEASE bring loki back, not even because i love loki, because i think thor needs his brother.

12 seeing "THOR WILL RETURN" at the end of the movie gave me big marvel phase 1 vibes. miss that

Jane felt the blood drain from her face. “You’re a teenager?”

“Nearly as I can estimate, I have existed for approximately a millennium by Midgardian timekeeping, but being… having… after a fashion, yes. I am… young, as our lives are reckoned.” He was blushing.

A thousand year old teenager. She had no idea how to feel. Who was the perv there, her or him? It did go very, very far in explaining how he managed to seem both ancient and immature. He fucking was both.

After the pandemic is over, my two biggest dreams are going to Amherst, MA to see the Emily Dickinson museum (which I've never been to; it opened after my last trip to MA) and going back to England to visit all the museums and things I missed the first time around (Chawton [the Jane Austen house], Shibden Hall, Bletchley Park, the Bronte Parsonage, etc.).

Oh man.. I went to see endgame again and I want to like Thor in this movie I really do and am worried I'm a bad person for not but like, the tone feels all over the place with him, like the tragedy undercuts the humour but then the humour disrespects the tragedy. I can't get my head around this creative decision. What do you think?

First of all, you’re not a bad person for not liking Thor in this film. The negative reaction to how Thor is portrayed is pretty widespread, especially on Tumblr, and a lot of people share your opinion that his character was handled poorly.

I ... *sighs* Here’s the thing. My immediate/general reaction was something like being stunned and second-hand embarrassed for Thor and really upset at the portrayal, because it really, really does feel like the narrative is framing Thor’s very real PTSD as a joke. Playing it up for laughs when there’s nothing funny about that level of loss and grief.

I felt it was disrespectful, that it undermined not only Thor but those of us who suffer from mental illness and have unhealthy coping mechanisms. I felt like depression was being made fun of, like trauma was being made fun of, like weight gain/generally showing how far a person can sink into depression where they can’t take care of themselves was being made fun of. Furthermore, I have been especially furious that despite his trauma, Thor didn’t mention Loki even once, even when acknowledging literally everything else he’s lost besides Loki (family, Asgard, Jane).

But.

Everyone knows, because I have been obsessing about it for days, that I’ve discovered some really, really good during/post-Endgame Thor fic. Fic that manages to strike the balance between what we saw on-screen and what’s going on in Thor’s head. I have found fic that somehow manages to reconcile the two, showing how deep Thor’s trauma runs while still being consistent to what was portrayed on-screen.

And in finding myself not only empathizing with Fic!Thor, but also feeling very protective of him and generally loving toward him, it also made me admit to myself that, when I watched Endgame, it was like two days before the release and I was watching a really shitty cam rip, where I missed 75% of what was really happening, due to poor sound and visual quality.

So, tonight, I went back and rewatched it. Not in the theatre but I found a better cam version on Putlocker, with much better sound and video. I tried to be open-minded. And I had no idea how much I missed, when it came to Thor’s microexpressions and mannerisms and even what he was saying half the time. Watching it in better quality along with having the fics in my head has kind of ... brought me to an understanding of it, I think? In a way that I’m no longer furious about it, because I can sort of get behind the creative decision to show Thor just completely deteriorating and becoming something like an entirely different person than what he’s been before. Because mental illness and trauma do do that to a person. And I do think that it was a bold, but not necessarily a wrong, decision to go the opposite way in portraying the illness than what is usually shown in media. Usually, in films and tv, traumatized, depressed people are portrayed as stoic, and usually really thin, and scowly and brooding.

Thor in Endgame as a concept is taking that expectation and subverting it and showing the other end of the spectrum: that sometimes you are smiling and joking even though it’s an act, that you’re laughing on the outside while a weight is pressing down on you on the inside, that drinking to excess can cause weight gain, that eating as a coping mechanism can cause weight gain, that not caring about life can mean not caring about yourself and you don’t necessarily notice that it’s been a week since you washed your hair and two years since you cut it and what does it matter anyway, because you’re not going anywhere or doing anything or trying to impress anybody, you’re just putting one foot in front of the other and trying to make it through day by day until the universe finally decides to take pity on you and you die.

And I get that, because I’ve been there, because a lot of people have been there, because it’s a very real, uncomfortable, visceral portrayal of someone who has just completely broken down - mentally, physically, emotionally.

That all said - I understand the intention better now than I did before, but I do think that it fell flat. Instead of really delving into these things, the narrative played it like we were supposed to laugh at Thor. Not a single person, except for Bruce, asked Thor if he was okay. No one acknowledged that Thor might not be up for this mission. No one acknowledged that even if the snap was reversed, Thor will still have lost everything and he doesn’t get anything back.

Thor is very visibly breaking down, and the others just roll with it. Worse, they make fun of him, what with the way they look at him and the way they act toward him and Rhodey’s stupid “cheeze whiz” joke. The narrative supports this view, especially with camera shots that emphasize Thor’s weight and general disheveled appearance. And the version I watched today was still filmed in a theatre, so I was able to hear all the places where the audience just laughed, even when Thor was obviously in pain and obviously needed sympathy rather than mockery. It smacks of fat shaming and general mental health shaming. And that’s not okay.

I feel ... more generous toward Chris Hemsworth’s performance than I did before. On a second, closer viewing, I do think that his facial expressions and his delivery of his lines did show someone who was in deep pain, especially when it came to Thanos specifically (his change in demeanor when Bruce says his name, the way he begs to wear the gauntlet and “do something right,” the way he approaches Thanos in the final battle, among other moments).

I also think, though, that Chris may have gotten too into the comedic aspect of it, too, and that probably contributed to Thor in general being played for laughs. Because Chris likes to laugh, and have fun, and screw around, and he’s said so himself. I think if Chris had a better understanding of mental illness than I assume he does, he might have been more willing to delve further into the emotional side and relied less on the comedic side. And if Chris wasn’t so anti-Loki, then I think we would have had a lot more acknowledgement of how much Loki’s death has contributed to Thor’s grief and mental state.

Idk. It could have been better. The fics are better. But at the same time, I do get it now more than I did before. I’m not really crediting the Russos with that, bc they’re trash, but I do give Chris Hemsworth and his acting more credit than I did. And honestly, I give the fic writers credit bc reading them forced me to consider my point of view and whether or not I was looking at Thor too critically due to my general hatred of everything the Russos touch.

So, yeah. Overall, it’s ... a complicated thing. I don’t think I’ll ever be okay with it, but I’m not so anti it either, anymore. If that makes sense.

I didn’t mean to write you a dissertation, Anon, so I’m sorry for the length. This has actually been on my mind for several days, though, so I kind of hopped on this ask and took it as an opportunity to write all of this out. I hope it makes sense. I hope people can understand where I’m coming from. And even if you can’t, please don’t @ me, I’m very tired.

Oh, thank you! It’s been a lot of fun to write, mostly. And yes! Yes, I do! On both counts. I'm going to exclude mine that I haven't updated in a while, but I guess you could read them at your own risk.

First, my fics; because otherwise I would never mention them among all the actually wonderful writing listed here. XD

It’s A Funny Little Story - Oneshot (in theory). OFC drags a more-or-less-willing Loki to an aquarium to stop an argument. It works out better than he expected.

The Veil Must Fall - A Halloween oneshot I wrote last year that I am absurdly proud of. Thor drops Loki off with a friend while he deals with a thing. Friend tells him to stay away from a specific door. Loki does not stay away from the door. Regrets are had.

There Was A Process - Supposedly a oneshot, but I’m sort of working on a sequel. Loki takes over OFC’s seidr training for the day at his mother’s request; ADHD shenanigans happen.

And Though She Be But Little - Oneshot. Loki realises OFC and their resident Valkyrie have a thing for each other and decides he simply must set them up. Neither woman asked for it. This does not deter Loki.

Control - Oneshot (in theory). OFC is a SHIELD agent in charge of 'handling' Loki, and the only one he actually behaves for, leading to wildly inaccurate gossip because of course.

A Way Out - Completed multichapter, though I do have a sequel in the works. Loki gets himself captured, meets fellow prisoner OFC and helps her escape because Reasons, not expecting her to come back for him. She does.

Honeythief - Oneshot (in theory). Loki's teenaged daughter breaks into Avenger's Tower to see him. As one does.

The Little Wolf - Oneshot (in theory). OFC drops toddler off in Loki's care with no explanation and disappears. Loki has mixed feelings about this.

Take Me Home - Oneshot. Loki comes home with a random baby. Wife is understandably confused.

Flowers And Monsters & it's sequel Ice-Cream And Escapees - Ongoing series, and I will eventually keep working on it. I swear. Loki makes friends with Jane's daughter. Thor has mixed feelings about this. Jane has no idea.

By The Willow Shade - Completed multichapter and probably my favourite work ever. OFC accidentally summons Loki to her basement. It works out for both of them.

Ragdoll by @lizardbeths - Ongoing multichapter. When Hulk slams Loki into the floor, Thor must hurry to Asgard with him to save his life.

Life In Reverse by @veliseraptor - Completed multichapter. Loki falls to Earth instead of the void, wanders around trying to work out what to do with himself, and somehow ends up working for SHIELD. I'd be remiss not to recommend this one; it's one of my favourite fics ever.

Steve Rogers' Halfway House for Notorious Supervillains also by @veliseraptor - Ongoing multichapter. Steve and Sam are looking for Bucky post TWS, they find one messed up and traumatised Loki instead. It... doesn't not necessarily get better from there. This one's Gen afaik, but I obvs can't speak for Lise if it'll stay that way. Either way it's really really good.

the only soul I've ever saved by @valkyrisms (at least I hope this is the same person XD) - Oneshot. After the defeat of Thanos, Thor thinks Loki's body lost among the stars. Six months later, he lands in Queens. Some excellent Loki & Peter Parker content here, I loved it.

Above All Shadows by wedgetail (not sure if they have a tumblr) - Completed multichapter. The Avengers lose against Thanos. Loki goes back in time to fix things, and ends way futher back than intended. Things kind of rollercoaster from there.

The Art of Spinning by @gaslightgallows - Completed multichapter. Frigga survives Malekith's attack, but the only thing holding her to life is Loki. Desperate to save his wife, Odin alters Loki's sentence to keeping Frigga alive. I really really loved this one. A lot.

Truth Will Out by @wolfpawn - Oneshot. Loki and OFC's friendship is put to the test by lies and jealousy.

Ask Me No Questions by Alex1324 - Oneshot. When Thor returns from Asgard to rejoin the Avengers, he brings Loki in tow, stripped of his magic and bound with a geas that allows him to speak only in response to direct questions. It goes about as well as you'd expect.

Pleas to the Stars by @jaggedcliffs - Completed. No one told Loki Frigga was dead. Thor thought of another way to stop Malekith without Loki. Loki misses his mother, and wonders why she won't come back. This fic, guys. This fucking fic. It wrecked me. It is so so good.

The Lullaby Singer by @theotherodinson - Ongoing multichapter. Odin hasn't left Asgard in over a thousand years. When he finds out Loki is still alive and preparing to launch an attack on Midgard, he could send Thor to stop him. Or Odin could go himself.
