Everyone shits on Apple but damn, I'm going through all the security shit you can turn on and it's a lot, even if you're not paying for iCloud+.
Apple already restricts apps from talking to one another as much as it can, but you can additionally request apps not track you on top of that. Your data is already encrypted, but you can choose to encrypt your data to the point where even if the "cloud" got hacked, no one would be able to read it - it can only be accessed on approved devices. Messages between iPhone users using Messages are already E2E encrypted, as are Facetime calls, but you can turn on Contact Key Verification, which ensures that when you're texting someone in your contacts, you're actually texting them (this is marketed towards folks who are "high priority targets" for hackers, like journalists, social rights activists, and politicians).
On top of that, the cheapest iCloud+ plan is $3 a month, and for that, you get even more security measures on top of 200GB of storage. You can create random email aliases for when sites force you to put an email it just to read the content. You can turn on a private relay that anonymizes your IP address.
I'm still a fan of not having all your eggs in one basket (aka not being totally dependent on one single company for everything) but hot diggety. Apple has won me back in a big way.

it is incredibly fucked up of you not to clarify ANYWHERE in the doxxing post that it's a joke, not even a subtle "#unreality" or "#not real" within the tags. to only hint at it by leaving a link to the definition of "joke" in a SEPARATE POST is ridiculously petty. and to double down and insist it's real when asked is just plain cruel. you are an adult, as far as i know, and acting this immature should embarrass you. i hope you know your post caused anxiety and paranoia. i hope you're aware of the effect your dumb joke over how much you hate a random kids' cartoon that isn't even airing anymore caused. fuck you.
i was going to reply with the meme "calm down time" but the point of the joke was to give actual cybersafety advice, so for you anon and anyone else who would find these useful, here is a different, straightforward advice on how to prevent doxxing in addition to my own internet safety slide & what to do if you are ever happen to be doxxed i would also recommend emailing the web archive to remove your pages from their history before you delete them (because they require proof it is your page, so you will need to make a post of some sort indicating such) to make sure there are no ghosts of it to pull information from & if you are afraid of being doxxed through tumblr, this might help i happen to find sending anonymous hate mail also quite immature. i know you cant ever tell who to trust on the internet, but if you had DM'd me verbatim this message i would not have posted it and kept it private i believe in giving warnings as courtesy though, so i hope these links help you ease your anxiety. but it is my day off and im quite bored, so if you show up belligerently in my inbox again there are still ways to find someone around a private icloud relay ^^ please utilize the block function i hope you have a better day !

Exploit 128GB iCloud Storage to Optimise iPhone!
Tumblr media
Apple iCloud Storage
Apple claims in its most recent advertisement that the iPhone 15 provides “lots of storage for lots of photos.” That depends on how you use your iPhone and the storage option you pick. These factors should be considered before spending.
128GB is the minimum storage capacity available for the iPhone 15. So much more than the 64GB standard till the iPhone 13 in 2021. The default storage choice for Apple’s next gadget may seem substantial when compared to 2018’s iPhone X’s 64GB.
This generational upward increase in storage needs, however, is only a reflection of our expanding digital habits, which now include anything from multi-gigabyte triple-A games and high-resolution photos to vast app libraries.
The iPhone 15’s camera now records 4K videos and takes 48-megapixel pictures, so these high-resolution files take up a lot of space. While these developments certainly improve the quality of collected video, they also consume local storage capacity, making what was formerly thought to be sufficient space inadequate for the demands of a large number of users.
Apple iCloud
Free 5GB storage protects your pictures, movies, notes, and more, automatically backed up and accessible anywhere. Upgrade to iCloud+ for greater storage and data privacy. All iCloud power. Plus.
iCloud images
Securely stores and protects your original high-resolution images and videos for life with lightweight space-saving versions on all your devices. Whatever it is a video of your pet at the beach from yesterday or a snapshot of your buddies from years ago your complete collection is accessible and shareable anywhere.
Shared Photo Library
Is the easiest method to share photographs and videos with up to five people. Featured Photos & Memories lets you relive your trips with shared library material.
Shared Albums
Makes it simple to share images with the individuals you desire, like merging road trip photos with pals or updating relatives on kids’ exploits. When the album is updated, your friends are alerted and may contribute photographs, videos, and comments.
iCloud Drive
Makes your saved files and folders accessible and shareable across devices. The iOS and iPadOS Files app and the Mac Finder provide access to them all.
iCloud Backup
Every time your iPhone or the iPad is powered on and connected to Wi-Fi, iCloud Backup automatically backs up your vital data, including your favourite applications.
Restore
Restore or set up a new device from your iCloud backup to effortlessly transfer your images, data, contacts, applications, settings, and more.
iCloud to the Rescue?
The limited capacity on devices is addressed by Apple’s iCloud service, which offers a variety of options beyond the meagre 5GB of free storage, which is, to be honest, inadequate for the majority of users. There are three storage membership tiers available for Apple’s paid iCloud+ storage: 50GB, 200GB, and 2TB. Additional services like iCloud Private Relay, Hide My Email, and Custom Email Domains are included with all of the tiers. Subscribers pay $0.99 for 50GB, $2.99 for 200GB, and $9.99 for 2 TB of cloud storage.
Apple provided 6TB and 12TB storage alternatives for those with large storage demands. These are expensive and need an internet connection to view your data. Monthly prices for iCloud+ plans are $29.99 for 6TB and $59.99 for 12TB. Compare Google’s 5TB and 10TB cloud storage plans for $24.99 and $49.99 per month.
iCloud Storage vs iPhone Storage
While Apple provides 256GB and 512GB upgrade choices, with an extra 1TB option for the iPhone 15 Pro, both the normal iPhone 15 models and the iPhone 15 Pro models start with 128GB of storage. (The initial 256GB of capacity on the iPhone 15 Pro Max models is twice that of subsequent versions, which provide 1TB and 512GB of storage).
For buyers who value enormous amounts of space on their smartphone, Apple offers the iPhone 15 Pro with an aggregate capacity of 1TB. However, it costs $1,499-$700 more than the ordinary model. Thus, considering a lower-capacity device and adding iCloud storage may be more cost-effective and feasible. A 1TB iPhone 15 costs $200 more than five years of 2TB iCloud storage spaces. which is $500 less expensive and may last longer than the gadget itself.
Ultimately, the choice you choose will be based on how you use your data and how much you value instantaneous offline access vs the flexibility and possible cost savings of cloud storage.
Storage alternatives for iPhones
It seems sense that Apple will eventually raise the base storage of all of its iPhone models to 256GB given the present trend. It is certainly past time that it also reevaluates the meagre 5GB of free iCloud storage that it provides in favour of a more substantial allotment that more accurately represents the realities of contemporary digital use habits.
Options for iPhone storage expansion
Make advantage of iCloud storage: You may keep your images, movies, and other material on the cloud by using one of Apple’s premium iCloud storage plans. Your iPhone may have more space after doing this.
Unused applications may be offloaded from your iPhone using a function that allows you to do just that. By doing this, you may make more space on your smartphone without fully removing the app.
FAQS
Who would need more capacity than 128GB?
Power users: These may include anybody who downloads a lot of music or films for offline viewing, photographers or videographers who save a lot of material on their device, or gamers who download big games. Individuals that save a large amount of data on their phone: You could run out of space with 128GB if you don’t want to delete old pictures, movies, or programmes.

If you intend to establish the function, you can describe our overview on how to make use of Exclusive Relay in Safari. How Does iCloud Private Relay Job? Christin Hume/Unsplash Exclusive Relay sends your web information with 2 relays. The initial relay conceals the internet sites you go to, while the 2nd develops an IP address different from yours. Apple Support says it manages the initial relay which a "third-party web content company" handle the various other fifty percent. When you make use of Safari on your Apple tool, iCloud Private Relay takes your web demand and secures it. This suggests that the information you send out and obtain comes to be clambered in a manner that's unreadable to any person that could obstruct it. This security procedure is important for shielding delicate details like passwords and individual messages. After security, your demand is sent out to 2 different web communicates run by various entities. The initial relay appoints you a confidential IP address connected to your area however not your real place. This makes sure that internet sites can give appropriate web content without understanding precisely where you are. The 2nd relay, which is not aware of your IP address, decrypts the internet address you intend to go to and sends your demand there. Along with your network company being incapable to see your surfing background, Apple states in the above web link that it likewise has no accessibility to your internet details when making use of Exclusive Relay. So, from a personal privacy point ofview, iCloud Private Relay is secure. It deserves keeping in mind that iCloud Private Relay does not function throughout all internet browsers on your tool. If you do not such as making use of Safari (or hardly ever utilize it), you're possibly much better off seeking a choice. Ought to you like not to pay, you can make use of among the numerous totally free VPN solutions to secure your personal privacy. 3 Advanced VPN Includes iCloud Private Relay Does not Have iCloud Private Relay misses out on a number of the advanced attributes that finish VPN solutions have, and it's these that could guide you in the direction of making use of a routine VPN. 1. Web Server Area Options One clear function iCloud Private Relay does not function is alternatives for changing places. With a lot of VPNs, you can alter the nation your VPN web server is based in, making your website traffic look like if it were originating from that place. When you alter your place with a VPN, you can link to several web servers worldwide. Lots of individuals do this to ensure that they can enjoy geo-restricted motion pictures and television programs, however you likewise have the advantage of 3rd parties not having the ability to also presume where you really are. 2. Logging Plan One more vital distinction in between iCloud Private Relay and VPNs associates with the logging plan. As Apple [PDF] states on web page 9 of its Exclusive Relay Summary: “Exclusive Relay’s style, integrated with a marginal logging plan, makes sure that proxy logs do not include sufficient details to link a customer’s IP address or account details with their surfing task.” The above is a raw comparison from numerous VPNs, which have a no-log plan rather. No-log methods that none of your details is accumulated when making use of the solution. 3. Eliminate Button One more VPN function that isn't readily available with Exclusive Relay is a VPN kill button, which quits you from making use of the web when your VPN link goes down. Essentially, if the VPN software application finds a concern with its link, it eliminates your normal web link to quit any type of website traffic from reaching your normal ISP, shielding your personal privacy. As soon as you're linked once more, you can make use of every little thing as regular. iCloud Private Relay: Valuable, however Not a VPN So, is iCloud Private Relay a VPN? In other words, No. Presumably, you can obtain a strong base degree of defense. Taking into consideration that you just require to spend for iCloud+ to obtain Exclusive Relay, the device serves if you routinely make use of Safari and just desire fundamental defense attributes. Nevertheless, Exclusive Relay does not have the sophisticated attributes that numerous VPNs have. If you desire accessibility to these, to alter your nation, or to make use of internet browsers apart from Safari, you ought to register for a complete VPN solution rather.

iCloud Private Relay, and an Upstream Provider
"When iCloud Private Relay is on, the traffic leaving your device is encrypted and sent through two separate internet relays. This prevents websites from seeing your IP address and exact location while preventing network providers from collecting your browsing activity in Safari."
That's all fine and well, except in particular fields & industries, it's imperative that all the stops are pulled to prevent end users from bypassing firewalls, filters, and so on.
At the time, I had raised tickets with our upstream provider to have the DNS Server return a NXDOMAIN response when the iCloud Private Relay URLs are sought, as per Apple's best practice and documentation.
Unfortunately, they were not able to achieve this, and short of putting a PiHole into a live, production environment with the sole purpose of stopping Private Relay (which I didn't really want to do), another (although not ideal) solution was used.
The block was implemented on the local Windows DNS servers, rather than upstream. The block applies to all networks that use those DNS servers.
The block is server based, and does not replicate across as part of ADDS, so the block must be implemented on all DNS servers.
The command used to implement the block is a powershell command, and must be performed as an Administrator.
The command is:
Add-DnsServerQueryResolutionPolicy -Name "iCloudPrivateRelayBlock" -Action DENY -Fqdn "EQ,*.mask.icloud.com,*.mask-h2.icloud.com" -PassThru
To unblock Private Relay, run the following Powershell command (as an Administrator) on any applicable Windows DNS servers:
Remove-DnsServerQueryResolutionPolicy -Name “iCloudPrivateRelayBlock”
When prompted, type “Y” for Yes.
Sources:
Edit - Jan 23 2024:
Just a quick edit to say that these steps do not return an 'nxdomain' response for the affected URLs, but rather a 'serv_fail' response, which, while not recommended by Apple, is the next best thing that I could achieve at the time.

Can You Trust the Security of a Secondhand iPhone 12?
Tumblr media
In a world driven by technology, the importance of robust security in our devices cannot be overstated. Regarding smartphones, your device isn't just a communication tool; it's a treasure trove of personal information, photos, messages, and more. The iPhone 12, known for its powerful features and cutting-edge security measures, is a device many desire. However, when considering the purchase of a secondhand iPhone 12, it's crucial to evaluate whether you can trust the device's security. In this comprehensive article, we'll explore the various aspects of iPhone 12 security, the potential risks of buying a used device, and the steps you can take to ensure your peace of mind.
The iPhone 12's Robust Security Features Before delving into the security implications of purchasing a used iPhone 12, let's first understand the robust security features that Apple has integrated into this device:
Face ID: The iPhone 12 features Face ID, an advanced facial recognition system. This biometric authentication method maps and analyzes your facial features in three dimensions, making it highly secure and convenient.
Secure Enclave and Data Encryption: The iPhone 12 includes a dedicated security chip known as the Secure Enclave, which handles critical security functions, including biometric data storage and encryption key generation. Apple employs end-to-end encryption for messages and data stored in iCloud, ensuring that the encrypted data remains unreadable even if unauthorized access occurs.
App Store Review and Privacy Labels: Apple's App Store is renowned for its stringent app review process, ensuring that apps meet privacy guidelines. Introducing privacy labels offers transparency by informing users about how apps collect and use their data, allowing users to make informed choices about the apps they install.
App Tracking Transparency (ATT): With ATT, apps are required to obtain explicit user permission before tracking user activity across other apps and websites. This shift empowers users to control how their data is used, preventing silent monitoring without consent.
Private Relay and Safari Enhancements: Private Relay, introduced with iOS 15, enhances internet browsing security by routing internet traffic through two servers, making it challenging for any single entity to associate your browsing habits with your identity. Safari's Intelligent Tracking Prevention further blocks cross-site tracking, ensuring online activities remain private.
iCloud Keychain and Two-Factor Authentication: The iPhone 12 offers iCloud Keychain, a secure password manager that generates, stores, and autofills strong, unique passwords across your Apple devices. Paired with Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), this ensures account security, even if someone gains access to your passwords.
On-Device Processing and Privacy: Apple prioritizes user privacy by conducting many tasks involving personal data directly on the device. For instance, Siri's voice recognition and processing occur on the device, minimizing exposure of voice recordings to external entities.
Data Minimization and Differential Privacy: Apple adheres to the data minimization principle, collecting only necessary data to improve user experiences while minimizing personally identifiable information. Differential privacy adds noise to data before analysis, anonymizing individual user data, even when contributing to enhancing Apple's services.
These security measures make the iPhone 12 a trusted device for protecting your personal data and digital identity.
Risks Associated with Secondhand iPhone 12 Devices While the iPhone 12 boasts impressive security features, there are potential risks when buying a secondhand device:
Data Remnants: A used iPhone 12 may still contain the previous owner's data. Without proper wiping and factory resetting, your device could potentially expose their information.
Warranty and Support: Depending on the device's age, it may no longer be under warranty or eligible for support from Apple.
Hidden Issues: Secondhand devices might have hidden hardware or software issues that aren't immediately apparent.
Software Updates: Older devices may not receive software updates or security patches, leaving them vulnerable to emerging threats.
Ensuring the Security of a Secondhand iPhone 12 To trust the security of a secondhand iPhone 12, there are specific steps and precautions you should take:
Source of Purchase: Buy from reputable sources such as certified refurbishment programs, trusted retailers, or individuals with a good track record. Avoid suspicious listings or deals that seem too good to be true.
Physical Inspection: Examine the device carefully for any signs of damage or tampering. Ensure it has been reset to factory settings.
Activation Lock: Verify that the device isn't locked to the previous owner's Apple ID. Activation Lock can prevent unauthorized use of a device.
Warranty Status: Check the device's warranty status using Apple's official website or support channels. Some used devices may still be under warranty or eligible for extended coverage.
Software Updates: Ensure the device is running the latest supported version of iOS. Older versions may lack security updates and compatibility with newer apps.
Factory Reset: Perform a factory reset to erase all data and settings from the device, ensuring it's like-new when you use it.
Passwords and Accounts: Change all passwords and remove any accounts associated with the previous owner. This includes Apple ID, email accounts, and social media profiles.
Two-Factor Authentication: Enable 2FA for your accounts to add an extra layer of security.
App Installation: Be cautious when installing apps. Stick to well-known apps from trusted sources, such as the App Store.
The Verdict: Trusting a Secondhand iPhone 12 While the security of a secondhand iPhone 12 can be ensured through careful inspection, verification, and responsible usage, it's essential to recognize that some risk always exists when buying used electronics. However, following the steps mentioned and maintaining good security practices, you can confidently embrace the digital world with your secondhand iPhone 12 without compromising your data or privacy.
In a landscape where data breaches and privacy concerns are prevalent, the iPhone 12 remains a symbol of security and privacy protection. By responsibly purchasing and using a secondhand iPhone 12, you can experience the benefits of cutting-edge technology without sacrificing your digital security. Remember, while a secondhand device may offer cost savings, the security of your data is priceless.
