What is the Doctor Who superhero AU

okay so there’s a bunch of different storylines overlapping (bc what’s the point of making an au if you’re not gonna have a big complex one amirite) so here’s a few of the Main Plots/Components:

there’s a secret organisation called gallifrey, which is like this world’s version of a.i.m./a.r.g.u.s. etc & they’re real awful. tried to control the superpowered scene by manufacturing/staging fights/rivalries etc. they have many different projects, such as

project doctor: an attempt to make a perfect superhero through use of cloning. went wrong bc of like. many reasons lmao. they’ve all since escaped and are trying to build lives while keeping out of gallifrey’s reach. some of them have decided to become heroes/vigilantes, some of them have decided to be as normal as possible. some of them are Just Hermits. they all have different abilities, some more useful than others

project master: an attempt to make a perfect supervillain, also with cloning. went even more wrong. they were tagged with a corresponding doctor to be Their Archnemesis (& so have abilities counter to theirs), and most of them have decided this means they have to kill them. missy’s the main exception, mostly bc her & twelve decided they couldn’t really be bothered tbh

project tardis: an attempt to make a time machine. the time machine then gained sentience (well. more like the future version of herself went back in time to give the past version of herself sentience) & then broke herself & most of the other experiments out of gallifrey. can’t stay in human form for too long bc she’s too unstable. mostly just loops back & forth so she’s able to stick with all of the doctors at once

project moment: started after the mass escape. no one has any clue what this one is & the doctors are trying to find out (well. some of them are. mainly ten & eleven, who’ve decided They Are Heroes, & war, the ‘failed’ experiment)

unit - are meant to be neutral on all issues relating to human-super relations but like. are they though. trying to clean up gallifrey’s messes. also have clones but THEIR clones turned out fine get fukt gallifrey lmao

torchwood - were originally meant to be a human first organisation but were secretly infiltrated by jack harkness, who now has a full super team in the form of torchwood 3. what happened to the other torchwoods??? ehh don’t worry about it

the nightingale clinic - one of the few places that provides medical care to superpowered ppl, commonly understood to be a neutral zone. if ppl bring their fights in here then martha WILL beat their ass (she has invisibility and also the power of kick ur ass)

the stenza club - basically a superpowered fight club. none of the fighters are there by choice, including one pissed off thirteen :)

the bad wolf - an all powerful entity that’s maybe existed before time & matter were created no one’s super sure?? currently possessing/hosted by rose tyler. she’s actually dealing with this p well, but is on the run from gallifrey, who’ve wanted the bad wolf like since they found out about it

so there’s rory, a superhero who’s invulnerable to everything (except fire shh don’t tell anyone), & his archnemesis amy (she has the ability to see multiple timelines which yknow. not really a combat skill. she mostly just kicks ass) also they both have swords, bc they’re dramatic like that. they really hate each other, which makes things super complicated when their daughter from the future turns up one day on the run from a hopefully alternate timeline in which Lots Of Things Went Bad

one of the main reasons that Lots Of Things Go Bad is one clara oswald, who can (and might) destroy the world. she’s working on it it’s cool it’s fine

What'd you think of Dhawan!Master's characterization in this episode? I've heard.... conflicting opinions, lmao.

My knee jerk reaction is that -- I like it and feels on brand. I mean from what I remember from the Third Doctor story, Delgado!Master almost had a breakdown when the Mind of Evil thing tricked Delgado!Master into thinking that the Doctor was laughing at him. 

The Master never did well when they thought the Doctor was better than them, equals: yes, okay; the Master slightly superior than the Doctor? SURE. 

The Doctor more special than the Master, even in tragedy? NO. 

There’s a part of the Doctor in him (and not the way they liked it😉) that made him special? Yeah, that’s gonna be something the Master won’t countenance. 

I mean add that on top of their own self-loathing issues, all the unaddressed abuse layered on, and the even more unaddressed guilt killing the Time Lords? 

Death Seeker Master, trying to bring the Doctor along the ride with him, so they would be equal. 

So the Doctor would sink down to his level, so that he would finally receive the final death from her hands and the Doctor dies with them. 

It feels on brand to a particular kind of Master. It feels both Classic and New Who!Master. 

Honestly, someone needs to throw this version into a Vault just to get some therapy done.

I just so adore how in the last episode 13 was out there ping ponging between "I'm baby" and "I'm bastard." She's really out there going from giddily trying on a plume and smacking her head on a force field to roasting the fuck out of the Cyberman to nyooming out of there with her lil coat flapping to ranting about how she's Alone on a metaphorical Summit in the Stratosphere and getting way too Arrogant about an AI "choosing" her to "Don't lose hope uwu." Iconic. What a legend.

She’s hit peak doctor style bastard!!! It’s finally happened!!! I say that like she’s not capable of very much being a Lot more of a bastard when i’m sure she is and probably will be so very soon lol  

I Love that she was such an open dork throughout it tho b/c the fact that she’s a Right Bastard is so much more fun when she’s yeeting byron across the room, walking face first into force fields b/c she didn’t even think to put a hand out first, and licking skeleton dust to contrast to her i am in the stratosphere Alone to make the Hard Choices and you’re all so far at my feet i can’t even See you bs like… Doc

but then she’s like, awww Graham maybe Ghosts Are real, messing with him like she did in Rosa with the ‘you’re not banksy!!’ ‘or Am I?’ sequence like she hadn’t just basically relegated him to the importance of an ant, potentially doomed the universe and yelled at him for not knowing what she’d not bothered to tell him despite his repeat attempts to get her to open up, like 2 hours minimum before all this happened! 

Like, what a jerk, u can’t just do that!!!! Even with the cute baby smile and cute scarf!!!! I see the bastard within the cute baby exterior! 

And the mountain metaphor tho like, imo was edging Uncomfortably close to a god metaphor, more Greek with the gods fecklessly playing with the mortals for their own agendas than other takes, but Add in the stonkingly obvious parallels between her and the master and the two bored and competing immortals that are sometimes considered as gods in Can You Hear Me? that just Decide and play with the universe as they will and i was like… 

Tone it down. 

Too Far. 

You need somebody to follow you around with a spray bottle of water and for them to spray you smack in the face with it every time you peak on the bastard arrogant scale. Literally every regeneration needs this. 

And yet, every time she looks sad i want to Hug her and make sure she’s okay because she’s got the cute ‘i’m baby’ face and honestly i made some comment last season abt how 13 got off easy with Najia because the gender roles were unknowingly working in her favour (like, arachnids happening with a doctor who looks 30 something but a man??? in that ep??? Najia hears all the stuff Yaz, her TEENAGE daughter is saying there??? 13 would have been socked by a mother again imo) but honestly i think it’s working on me too… I know she’s a bastard rat child time lord hubris ridden jerk with occasional genocidal tendencies and yet here i am… Wanting a trip in the box and to ask her if she’s okay.

I watched Frozen 2 and I LOVED IT OH MY GOD. One thing I'm confused about though.... why was going to Ahtoallan (sp?) what triggered Elsa's Fifth Spirit transformation?

Elsa triggered the transformation into the Fifth Spirit herself. By seeing the memory of her mother calling to the Spirits in the memory, she understands that only the Spirits can hear it (that’s why Bruni can as well) and that she is one, you can tell from the moment she lowers the four giant crystals to the floor with her smirk that she WANTS to be part of it!

Ooooo... I answered a question that was slightly similar in the comments of the original story, but it only mentioned Donna in passing, so here we go!

There’s a little variance depending on when exactly they encountered one another, so let’s say that it’s during some hypothetical scenario where Donna, Jenny, and Harry are on Team TARDIS together with the Tenth Doctor. 

Mayhem. Absolute MAYHEM. Four extremely shouty argumentative motormouths in one TARDIS--despite it being Bigger on the Inside, it is NOT big enough to contain all that. Donna and Jenny would enable each other’s worse ideas, Donna and Harry would be almost as Feral towards one another as he is with Jenny, Jenny and Ten would be in a constant slap fight over who gets to touch the tech, the sexual tension between Ten and Harry would be absurd, and no one would be able to get a word in edgewise. Any alien invasion would take one look at them and straight-up Nope out of there.

Things eventually calm down a little (comparatively) when the three humans realize that they can gang up on the Doctor. They make a formidable team but can’t get through breakfast without someone trying to murder someone else.

My apologies, this turned out as more of a Crossover thing, given that it’s comin’ up quick.

(Takes place...in the middle of Crisis, I guess, because that makes it funnier.)

“Yes”

“Now before you say--wait. What?”

Alex narrows her eyes and regards Oliver with open suspicion. She’d been expecting a firm, flat, Never, and as such, she had prepared a lengthy list of counter arguments that would, hopefully, persuade him to reconsider.

Or just. Wear him down, either way.

“I’ll do it,” Oliver restates his answer with an easy shrug. An easy shrug. Alex has to wonder if maybe they accidentally lost Earth-1 Oliver in the shuffle, somewhere, and that perhaps this is a much nicer, Multiverse counterpart. 

“Oh--okay. Um.” Alex shakes her head a little. “Sorry, I just. Kara’s told me that you’re usually not...not inclined to...” she trails off, hoping he’ll fill in the blanks on his own.

He smiles.

Oliver Queen smiles.

“I’ve been told I’m a bit more...pleasant, these days.”

“You got that right!” Barry yells from the other room. And Oliver takes it in stride, the amused expression never leaving his face.

“I’m happy to help Kara, Alex,” Oliver reassures her. And Alex...is maybe a little bit touched, at seeing the genuine desire to help her sister. So she just nods. She has a reputation to maintain, after all. “Maybe I’ll bring Mia along. Make a...a thing of it. A Bonding thing.”

Alex runs through the (long) list of names in her head.

“Of course,” she says quickly. “And...that would be...”

“Grown daughter from the future.”

“...Right.” Apparently that is a thing that happens with shocking regularity on Earth-1. “By all means. It will be a...bonding thing.” Alex turns slightly, and calls over her shoulder, “Barry--!”

“Oh I am not missing this,” he says, appearing in a blur of fluttering papers and fading yellow lightning. “Oh! Maybe we should go in costume!”

“I don’t think the local AMC will appreciate us causing a scene, opening night,” Oliver says, and Alex is quietly relieved to see that some of the old Oliver is intact. 

“What are you...” Barry is momentarily confused. “Oh, not--not these costumes,” he gestures to his own bright red costume, and Oliver’s hood. 

Oliver squints.

“What do you mean, not these costumes, what other costumes...?”

“I hate this.” Oliver mutters under his breath.

“Me too,” Mia says with a scowl that is entirely unconvincing; she’s very clearly enjoying the time with her dad, if not necessarily the animated musical on screen. (Though, Oliver’s pretty sure she’s actually enjoying that too.)

Several seats down, Kara raises an eyebrow at Alex.

“I thought you said he wanted to do this,” she whispers. Alex shrugs.

“Well, he did.” She notices that her popcorn keeps disappearing, and isn’t sure which of the super speedsters she’s sitting between is the culprit. Her money’s on Kara, but Barry can’t be ruled out just yet. “But that was before the platinum blonde wig and ice dress.”

Kara laughs at that, and Alex smiles. It was difficult, forcing Green Arrow to play the part of Elsa for the evening--difficult enough that some might question if it was worth the effort.

But Alex sees her sister relaxed and happy for the first time in weeks, and knows that the answer is yes.

Thoughts on “I won’t lose ANYONE ELSE to that!”? because that gutted me

I loved that they did that connection to all of the Doctor’s past trauma with the cybermen, the most recent being Bill’s horrible conversion of course. It’s interesting how differently she reacts here vs. the Dalek in resolution. She still forbids her companions to follow her but there’s much more grief and fresh anger simmering here. 

I think it’s partly to do with how the Doctor has had a few regenerations and companions to deal with all the Time War and Dalek trauma while they just lost Bill and had all that stuff happen leading up to Twelve’s regeneration into her. And then there’s all the shit that’s gone down this season that has put Thirteen in a much darker place than she was way back in Resolution. 

I think this episode is just the start of Thirteen properly losing it and showing more of her other less pleasant sides to her companions. At least I hope it is.

What are all the Doctors' and Masters' superpowers anyway?

@resting-meme-face okay so i still haven't seen most of classic dw so! here's some modern ones lmao

war was a ‘failed’ experiment, and wasn’t officially counted with the others. he doesn’t technically have abilities, but instead has enhanced combat traits: instant weapon proficiency, increased reflexes & stamina, increased strength & speed etc. the reason he was considered a failure is bc none of those things could be detected by the scientists, and they assumed he was powerless

yana was created at the same time as war, but bc of war’s ‘lack of abilities’ he wasn’t meant to be given anything either. instead he’s ended up with a very high form of super intelligence

nine has pyrokinesis - fire creation & manipulation. his proposed master pair would’ve have cryokinesis (ie the same but with ice), but the scientists eventually decided that a pyrokinetic hero would be too unstable & too difficult to control. he still struggles with feelings of inadequacy, self disgust etc, but rose offered to take away his abilities & he refused. they’re part of him, and he’s trying to be more comfortable with himself. he’s not a hero at all and doesn’t really want to be. he works in a soup kitchen. he helps out ppl if they ask for it though

ten has psychic energy manipulation & is able to construct things such as psychic blasts & shields, & is also naturally resistant to mental attacks. his abilities are pretty taxing energy wise, and he has a tendency to over exert himself. he can ‘borrow’ other people’s psychic energy, but a) if he takes it all then they’ll die b) if he takes too much then his control slips & he either ends up trapped in their mental space until he gains control again or he’ll take all of their energy. he’s the most superhero-like of the bunch

saxon obviously has mind control & memory alteration. it’s not permanent, and the person needs to be in semi regular content with him for it to stick. he can’t affect ten

eleven has omnilingualism - the ability to understand every language (they quickly realised that they couldn’t really make a pair for this, & left him alone). for years he was resentful of his siblings’ ‘cool’ abilities & thought they always looked down on him for not having anything useful. it took him a very long time to realise that they resented him bc he had non intrusive/non painful/normal abilities. he still wants to be a hero in some way (really if he wanted to help he’d like. volunteer as an interpreter in a hospital or in immigration services or smth) so he’s kind of amy’s sidekick?? ye she’s a villain but ehh she’s cool it’s cool

twelve has a very limited control over local time. basically he can create short time loops (around an hour long; less if he brings someone through the loops with him, and he can only loop until he runs out of energy), allowing him the chance to repeat a situation until he succeeds, as well as freezing time (for a few hours of his relative time). they take a lot of energy to use, and he hates them tbh

missy has reanimation - she can control dead bodies and give them a small form of sentience (it’s zombies she makes zombies) by rewinding them to just before they died. it’s terrifying. it doesn’t last long & depends on how many she’s controlling + how much energy she has. she’s probably the most powerful of the masters, but (though she has never and will never tell anyone this) she feels how the person died. she’s just. it’s tiring and it hurts and she feels bad for them and she hates it

thirteen & o have the same root powers, but they manifest in slightly different ways. when thirteen’s close to someone she feels their fear, & when she touches someone she sees their worst fears as if it’s happening to her. thirteen tends to switch between avoiding all touch, and purposely seeking out touch bc ‘it’s what she deserves’. she can’t use her powers to make people scared, but she can use what they tell her to verbally increase their fear. which she does. a lot

when o touches someone he can forces them to see their fears, & if thirteen & o touch they tend to end up getting stuck in a feedback loop. if o isn’t in the vicinity of thirteen, then he physically cannot feel fear. he both hates and loves being near to her, bc it’s the only time he feels alive

tentoo & donna are psychically linked. they’re both technically omniscient, but their knowledge is split between them, & only makes sense to them and others when both halves are together as the doctordonna. neither of them can really survive as this half life, so they’ve gotta figure out a way to either figure out a way to get rid of their abilities or to fix it so that only one of them has both halves. there’s also the fear that they might one day merge, killing them both & creating a new being?? they’re working on it it’ll probably be fine

And I can’t believe they did the redemption arc so well in thirteen episodes! I was trying to figure out how they’re going to do that but of course, they laid the groundwork! And it wasn’t an easy thing and I think it worked better that they paralleled Catra and Glimmer’s journey’s at the start.  Also, giving Catra an emotional therapy animal was genius.
