I have opinions about TotK. This is your spoiler warning if you haven't played/finished it yet. Also all of this is, once again, just my opinion on it and not a decisive fact! I will probably misremember things!

Anyway.

Okay so basically as someone who got it on release and beat it within a week, I'm a little underwhelmed by the game now that I'm looking back over half a year later.

It's not a terrible game! I'll say that first and foremost. But after waiting so long for it, and trying so hard to not hype myself up for it (failing horribly at that), it feels just a bit... same-y. The story is nice, and it's different. The boss fights and abilities you gain during your travels are nice. Everything else, though...

I like the map having stayed similar, with enough changes that I have to relearn some areas. The Depths are really fucking cool, and figuring out on my own that they're a negative of the overworld was incredible! But the sky islands were a little disappointing, I think. When we were told we'd be in the sky a lot, I thought there'd be more large islands like the tutorial one that you could walk around on. More references to Skyward Sword, too. It feels to me that they put more love into the Depths than the sky, in a way.

I like the main story. Figuring out Zelda was the Light Dragon (but not really believing it until the final Tears), and that she'd essentially spent thousands and thousands of years trapped inside herself, was AWESOME. Every cutscene involving her as the Light Dragon hit me hard, and I felt genuine sorrow everytime I saw her floating around the sky.

...That being said, I DO wish we could have a game where you get to actually travel with her. I WANT her to tell me about the minor lore of the world! I want to know about the various flora and fauna, and I want her to talk about Hyrule's history! Zelda is part of the royal family, and I'd imagine that part of her studies pre-BotW she'd have to learn about the history of her family (especially because of the importance of the Goddess' blood...). With how pre-BotW went between her and her powers, and her and her father, I'd imagine she'd make it a point to learn more about their history that ISN'T just the prophecy.

I, personally, did not like most of the temple boss fights. I can't really explain much of why- except for Queen Gibdo. I HATED Queen Gibdo because of all the smaller Gibdo chasing you, trying to chase down Riju for her power... It was a lot of things stacked on each other, and simply not my thing. Colgera was an absolute favorite however! The boss theme is AWESOME, the mechanics of being in the air and having to watch for projectiles, as well as crashing through the ice sheets to take it down? VERY, VERY FUN. Climbing through the sky just to get to the temple itself was one of my favorite experiences. Going up and up and up, and finally reaching the top where you break out above the storm clouds and see clear skies...

A thing that bothers me about the temples is that the cutscene at the end, where the ancient Sages gifts their powers to the new ones... I feel like they could've spent a little more time making them different, even if that meant more time in development. I would be okay with that! I think games should be in development longer in order to produce a good, finished product! Anyway.

The fight with Ganondorf was fun for me. I get SUPER immersed in it, so it was a fearful moment when I thought I'd beaten him, only to see his health bar fill again... and then go offscreen. And the DEMON DRAGON FIGHT? Holy SHIT.

I just wish there was more... substance to the game, I guess? It feels weird saying that. There are more things to do, but it's missing something I can't name. Something BotW had, but is now gone. I like TotK, like I said. It's clearly had love put into it, and I'm glad the developers spent more time on getting it as close to the perfect image they wanted as they could. Maybe it's just cause I've spent more time with BotW (over 300 hours), but I think I'm a little biased towards it. Maybe I'm just getting older and grumpier about vidya games, too. Who knows!

If you read all this, cool! I will reiterate that this is simply my view on it! If your view is different, good!! I'm happy to know there are people out there who enjoy it more than I did. Or if you hate it more than I do, maybe you have other things you want to point out about it that I missed.

Work was closed today because of an ice storm, so I took the unexpected day off to finally finish the pleated wrap skirt I've been working on since early November! I got really rambly about the whole thing so here's a picture of the finished product and I'll drop the rest below the cut.

This project came about because I've been watching The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty with some friends and I DESIRE a swooshy skirt. While I didn't follow any patterns and wasn't setting out to make the same exact style of skirt, it was definitely influential. (This skirt brought to you by numerous tutorial videos, including one on Chinese mamianqun's and one on Korean hanbok's, and an absolute refusal to actually follow anyone's instructions. No pattern, we die like men)

It's been almost 10 years since I've done any sewing, so I decided to buy sheets from the thrift store so that I wouldn't cry as hard if things went horribly or I had to trash the project. (Don't get me wrong, I still cried. Because Oh Golly did things go wrong. But it wasn't as tragic as if I'd used full price fabric from Joann's, ya feel?) So from there the idea grew from "pleated wrap skirt" (my rationale: I don't have to be precise in my measurements, straight hem, but still lots of swoosh) to "make this skirt out of a queen size top sheet with as little waste as possible" because who doesn't love a challenge?

....and oh what a challenge it ended up. I plotted things out in my notebook, planned how I would cut everything, and oh let me tell you: rationally I knew how big the sheet was. But laying it out to cut it? So huge. So much fabric. It covered my entire bedroom floor. All of this going into a single skirt oh god what have I gotten myself into? But this part actually went the smoothest of the whole process! Because...

I wasn't doing normal pleats. Since I was trying to make the swooshiest dress with as much of the fabric as I had, I did "deep pleats" which is. A normal pleat but if you shove more fabric inside the pleat. No one wanted to explain to me exactly how to do this. The one person I found who did gave me MATH about it. And boy am I bad at math. Used a pillowcase to practice and wrap my head around how the math worked (the intangible makes no sense to me, I must hold it in my hands), sorted the math, started pleating for real! Measured my pinned pleats and it came up way shorter than anticipated. Have I mentioned it's been a hot minute since I've sewn? Also this was my first attempt ever at pleats. SO! I unpinned everything, made my deep pleats slightly less deep, pinned them all up again, and then blessedly listened to my Grammy's advice to baste the pleats first. Because horror of horrors, my measurements were right the first time and now my fabric was too long for the waistband I'd already put Quite A Lot Of Effort Into. Like, it's a wrap skirt. I would've just made do. But no. It wouldn't even fit.

Within this process, I sewed together my three skirt panels, put in a pocket (oh the choices I made. This pocket did not survive to the completion of the skirt because it was BAD. I was terrified that the fabric wouldn't hold up to the weight of me dripping my phone into it and covered the ENTIRE pocket in interfacing. This would be fine if I'd wanted it to fuck up the way the skirt lay, but this was not in fact what I wanted. I am however very proud of the placement I worked out for it, it sits inside one of the pleats so it isn't visible), hemmed the WHOLE FUCKING THING (look. Again. I knew it was a lot of fabric. But it did not occur to me that I would be hemming fucking 240" across the bottom, plus 30" up either side. I used ALL of my pins to accomplish this), and made a very lovely waistband and ties.

Now it is at this point that I went out of town for thanksgiving, remembered I had other Christmas crafting plans, started a new job working more hours, and left this skirt to languish until a few weeks ago when I finally had the heart to rip out all of those pleats, remembered I wanted to redo the pocket while I was here (and let me tell you, I needn't have worried about the strength of the pocket. I had that fucker in there GOOD. I think it took longer picking out that single pocket than it took taking out all of the pleats), and then set about redoing everything.

Now something you may not know about me is I exist in somewhat of a state of chaos. I try to write things down to negate this, but uh. Guess who didn't write down where she left off, and couldn't decipher the mad scientist notes that made sense in the heat of the moment, but not several months later? That would be me. Thankfully I was able to sort things out, get the pocket put back in, got the pleats pinned in record time, and praise whatever deity you may recognize, it was the right length this time! So this afternoon, I attached it to the waistband, did a very lovely "stitch in the ditch" (that I had to take out because something got fucked up in the back and it wouldn't lay right. I never regretted how closely I matched the thread to the fabric more than I did in that moment), REDID all that stitching, and now I have a skirt!

Ultimately, I don't actually know if I'll wear it. I no longer own many tops that lay well with a skirt without making me hate my body, and I don't know that I like the length. Maybe a shopping trip and cutting off several inches (...oh god I'll have to re-hem it...) will make me like it on myself better, but even if I don't and I never wear it, this has been a really fun and fulfilling project! I'm satisfied just with having completed it and I've learned a lot in the process! And hey, for going into this refusing to follow a pattern, with a goal of "use the entire sheet in the skirt" I think it came out pretty nicely. Plus, if nothing else, I can pleat like an absolute pro now.

Hypothetical Fighting Game: Delta-Fighters rundown:

I bet you didn’t see this coming. Or maybe you did. Either way, settle down. This is a long one.

Summary:

They say that violence isn’t the solution to anything. But it can be entertaining. Especially if both parties are having fun. At Kris and Susie’s behest, the Dark World has allowed a contest of fighting prowess to entertain the citizens, featuring numerous volunteers from the Light World. Who will win? Who will lose? Is this all an illusion for a nefarious scheme? Who cares, just enjoy the show!

Characters:

Kris: Our favourite human, specialises in defence and offence, a Jack of trades but not truly excelling on any one level. Use the flirt move to stun your opponents.

Susie: With a mighty axe and a scary smile, Susie can cause heavy damage and take it too. But try not to get too aggressive, you could make a mistake.

Ralsei: A long range mage, Ralsei can end a fight with stunning spells or surprising magic. But he’s squishy, so be careful.

Lancer: Lancer, lacking his father’s build and ruthlessness, prioritises speed and tricky attacks to score victory. Watch out for his bike.

Noelle: A mage specialising in ice magic, Noelle can use a range of spells or kind actions to play a fight from her preferred range. Just, try to be careful. She might cast a spell she doesn’t know.

Berdly: A mid range character, Berdly can use his halberd and strategic intellect to make his opponent’s bottom of the class.

Temmie: A loveable oddball, Temmie can keep the opponent guessing with her incredibly high damage abilities.

Sweet Cap'n Cakes: Three characters in one, the rebels of Cyber World use their sick beats and quick reflexes to score a win, so long as their player knows what to do.

Jevil: The trickiest one of the bunch, Jevil is the character you go to if you want to feel everything go topsy turvy. Still, for those willing to entertain the jester, he promises a show.

Spamton: A [TOP SALESMAN SINCE 1999] Spamton can use his [ENDORSEMENTS] to achieve [HEAVEN] but, failing that, he has a little [HYPERLINK BLOCKED] to tip the scales.

Queen: A deceptively dangerous character, Queen uses a multitude of different tactics to make her opponent press escape key on life. Still, try not to spam her health recovery. Battery acid has a little kick to it.

King: A mighty glacier type of character. Slow, but hits like a train with titanium spikes attached to the front.

(Later characters to be added with chapter releases. Likely other classmates or noteworthy Darkners.)

Stages:

Most of the stages are drawn from the games, but there are some original places. Some stages have a Light world version and a Dark world version.

Castle Town.

Field of Hopes.

Great Board.

Castle Grounds.

Forest of Dreams.

Jevil’s Freedom.

Cyber City Fairgrounds.

Queen’s mansion.

The Bridge.

Hometown Streets.

Gym Class.

Abandoned Classroom/Dark Fountain.

Modified Computer Room/Cyber Fountain.

Style and presentation: The game is sprite based, but with higher pixel counts to increase character expressions.

The gameplay is primarily based on platform fighters like Super Smash Brothers, where you need to knock the opponent off the stage using Act-Tacks (basically smash moves.) However, you can set the rules to be decreasing stamina for a more traditional experience.

The gameplay has two modes. Either free for all or team battle. Team battle means two characters for you, and two for either the CPU or other player. Some pairs work better than others, so be sure to explore possibilities. (Certain pairs also have unique entrance animations.)

There’s a meter similar to Tension Points, you can use it to enhance special attacks, enter a brief defensive state where you take less damage, or use a powerful super attack.

There would either be voice acting, or just simple voice work like grunts and short phrases during battle, long dialogue in character stories being text boxes with minor vocal noises.

There’s a basic tutorial system hosted by… Toriel. Duh.

Intermediate tutorials are narrated by Rouxls. Advanced are done by Seam.

Modes:

Single player:

Character stories: Detailing their adventures as they progress to the main event. Completing each story gives the character an alternate costume.

STORY, only unlocked after completing the individual character with everyone: Details the events of the ‘tournament’ which isn’t nearly as professional as you’d think. Includes the FINAL BOSS.

Arcade ladders: The good old ladders. Face against random opponents and the final boss to the unique ending.

Practice Mode: Practice your skills. (You have the option to use ICE-E as the practice dummy instead of a playable character. This is the only time thaf character exists in the game.

Online:

Online versus: Face a (presumably) human player and prove your skill.

King of the Hill: Watch matches and give points.

Miscellaneous:

Gallery: Watch cutscenes, see concept art, promotional materials, alt costumes and the special character biographies.

Music: Jam out to the remixed tunes.

Audio: Listen to audio clips.

Postanowiłam się przełamać i zacząć tu coś wstawiać(chciałam wcześniej ale moja aspołeczna dupa zabroniła).

Uznałam, że można byłoby zacząć od kilku porad na temat any oraz mii

⭐jeśli masz problem z wymiotowaniem i poprostu nie możesz tego zrobić to po pierwsze napij się przed nim wody ale nie za dużo bo wtedy cały proces zajmie więcej czasu, a jest on bardzo istotny, ponieważ zależy nam na jak najszybszym pozbyciu się jedzenia z organizmu. Jak już napiłaś/eś się wody kucnij przed rzeczą do której będziesz wymiotować i ściśnij się dość mocno za brzuch (polecam mieć wtedy na sobie np. ciasny gorset!). Według mnie najlepsza jest metoda na palce lub szczoteczkę do zębów (jeśli korzystacie z pierwszej to fajnie jest mieć dłuższe paznokcie bo bardziej prowokują). Po skończeniu tej jakże cudownej czynności(jak wymiotujecie do toalety) to spuśćcie wodę kilka razy ponieważ pod światło można zauważyć na wodzie tak jakby teksturę wymiocin,a raczej nie chcemy, aby ktokolwiek się dowiedział o tym że wymiotujemy , polecam również dać tam coś co zabije zapach wymiocin, aby być w 100% pewnym, że nikt się nie dowie. Warto również dodać że należy zagłuszyć wymiotowanie najlepiej jak się da czyli np. odkręcić wodę w krainie, prysznicu lub nawet obu.

⭐Jeśli masz straszną ochotę na jakieś konkretne jedzenie to nie ignoruj jej ❗❗ trust me. Lepiej wyjść trochę poza limit i poćwiczyć niż w końcu nie wytrzymać i rzucić się na całą lodówkę.

⭐NIE ZACHĘCAM, ale papierosy według mnie bardzo pomagają jeśli chodzi o głód tym bardziej jednorazówki, które są smakowe. Osobiście bardzo polecam grape ice!!

⭐jeśli Twoi rodzice wiedzą o Anie lub Mii lub coś podejrzewają to poproś ich od czasu do czasu o pieniądze na jedzenie, aby trochę zmniejszyć ich podejrzenia. Możesz za to kupić jakieś typowe rexie things lub przemycić potajemnie do ich torebki. A jeśli wymagają, żebyś jadł/a przy nich to zostają dwie opcje albo zjeść i potem w toalecie zmienić się w 🌟mia Queen🌟 lub napakowac mega dużo jedzenia do buzi i ustawić np budzik lub poprosić kogoś,aby do was zadzwonił,żeby mieć wymówkę na wyjście do pokoju i wyplucie jedzenia do jakiegoś woreczka.

⭐Pij mega dużo wody. Serio. Może nie zmniejszy to głodu,ale przynajmniej jak zapełnisz się woda to nie będziesz w stanie czegoś zjeść.

⭐I ostanie! mega polecam chrom moi słodcy! Od kiedy go biorę to nie mam praktycznie ochoty na słodkie rzeczy fr. Możecie go normalnie kupić w każdej aptece, ale pamiętajcie,aby z nim nie przesadzać bo mogą wyjść z tego dość słabe skutki.

Game Spotlight #5: Warlocked (2000)

It's time for our fifth Gaming Spotlight this time brought to you by Larsa. This spotlight will feature the first Gameboy Color game we have covered. When you think of the Gameboy Color you think of great games like Pokemon Gold/Sliver, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, or even a more underrated hit like Harvest Moon 3. Those games were bright representations of their genres and the sort of titles the handheld had became known for at the time. Now with that said, did you know that the Gameboy Color had its very own Real-Time Strategy game published by Nintendo?

I introduce to you "Warlocked", a cult classic game that wears its inspirations on its sleeve. "Warlocked" was a game developed by a small studio based out of the United Kingdom known as Bit Studios in a partnership with Nintendo. The studio recently had formed a partnership at the time with Nintendo of America and developed " R-Type DX " for the Gameboy Color to positive critical acclaim before working on their next project "Warlocked". Right off the bat here the game's story is nothing particularly original being yet another "Humans vs Orcs" story which was everywhere in the previous decade of the 1990s. The human kingdom is ruled by the beautiful Queen Azarel whose kingdom reigns over the Kula ice fields. She and her kingdom are forced into battle by an invading force of foreigners: the beats led by Chief Zog. It is revealed through text that Zog wishes to take over these frozen plains and force Azarel to be his Queen. This is certainly not how you treat your neighbors!

( Unless you play as Chief Zog in which case that totally is how you treat them. )

The game is divided between two different campaigns: one for the Human faction and the other for the Beast faction as both sides battle for supremacy guided by your fingertips. The campaigns are made up of completely different levels with their own objectives which largely boil down to wiping the opposing force off the map. The Human faction levels make for a good place to start for new players as it serves as a better tutorial to the game as opposed to the Beast faction levels which are more difficult. Both armies play functionally the same with each army being primarily comprised of workers, knights and archer units that serve as the backbone of your forces. Each faction has their own sprites representing the units but they are identical from a gameplay perspective. Along with the core units to make up the army your worker grunts can build structures such as a guard tower to rain arrows on your enemies, barracks to allow you to build more knights/archers, and farms which allow you to create more units. As you explore the map you may run into a baby Dragon or a powerful Wizard which can be recruited to tip the scales in your favor.

Wizard units are the most unique units featured in the game as each Wizard has their own sprite, backstory, and powers to help achieve victory. Whenever you discover a wizard, lead them back to your temple to store them in your "Wizlist". The game encourages you to fully explore each map to find these often hidden Wizards to join your army. If this might sound familiar at all that is because this system was heavily inspired by Pokemon. Once added to the list you are able to summon that Wizard unit in any future campaign, or multiplayer battle, if you so desire. The game boasts a roster of 27 Wizard units largely with different abilities from one another making collecting each of them during the campaign worth it. These Wizards have plethora of abilities such as the Telewiz's ability to teleport enemy units to random tiles effectively removing them as an obstacle. Another fearsome unit is the Bombwiz can turn an enemy unit into a large bomb which will explode damaging other opposing nearby units or structures. Along with these oddballs each of the two faction leaders are featured as "Wizard" type units themselves. Once they take to the field Queen Azarel and Chief Zog share the same ability of speeding up the creation of all new units.

"Dabu!" "Swobu!" "Zug zug!"

The gameplay and setting of Warlocked are obviously inspired by the RTS heavy hitters for the PC platform such as Blizzard's Starcraft and Warcraft games that would go onto to truly change the gaming landscape forever. However Warlocked shouldn't be written off as a mere copycat for the feats the developers achieved on the Gameboy Color is nothing short of miraculous. The developers managed to make a fully functional RTS on the Gameboy Color with plenty of extra content such as blackjack and puzzle mini-games. Even more impressive is the multiplayer battle mode where two players could battle each other via link cable. The game would go onto win critical acclaim being praised for it's gameplay, soundtrack, and user friendly controls. IGN would name the title it's "Best Game Boy Strategy" title of the year 2000. Despite the positive critical reception of the time Warlocked would sell poorly and these poor sales figures would sadly spell the end of the partnership between Bit Studios and Nintendo of America.

A couple of years later Bit Studios attempted to make a sequel to Warlocked titled "Wizards", a game being developed for the Gameboy Advance, a much more technology advanced system that could better suit the potential of an RTS game. Unfortunately Bit Studios could not get any publisher interested in funding the game and as such the project was quietly cancelled and not long afterward Bit Studios themselves were sold off by their parent company. It is truly a shame that Warlocked could not find an audience in its own time because in my opinion it was a well made game that deserved to enjoy success. I had many fond memories of playing this game when I was a child, and I will happily say having played it recently I believe it still holds up as a fun handheld title. Its simplistic RTS gameplay, catchy tunes, and pixel art make for a good time. This game is worth a spin for fellow retro-gaming enthusiasts.

A gem hidden among the stones, Warlocked is undoubtedly stardust.

Currently watching: Just random telly - I've been regularly catching Taskmaster UK Season 9 reruns.

Last movie: The Day After Tomorrow (2004) - I watch this move every year when the weather turns stinking hot. It cools me down to see all the water, snow and ice. It has a great cast, blockbuster action and a sweet father-son moment. Now I want to watch it again!

Currently reading: Forked by Melanie Harlow (Frenched series) - I'm making my way backwards through their backlog after really enjoying their Cloverleigh Farms Next Generation series.

Sweet/Savoury/Spicy: In food or otherwise? 😏 I'm all three in moderation but if I really had to pick, it's probably gonna be sweet.

Relationship status: Single 👀

Current obsession: In between intense obsessions. Most recent was Bridgerton (which started this foray into tumblr!)

Last google: "gift wrapping fan" - it's Christmas time! I was looking for a tutorial to do fancy present wrapping since I had extra paper hanging off the box. Turned out alright but I definitely need more practice!

Currently working on: Nothing. Nada. Zilch. I feel like I fell off my Bridgerton cliff. It was like all my creative juices boiled all at once and now the stove's off. Though, I still haven't watched Queen Charlotte and with Bridgerton season 3 coming up, who knows!

Current game: I'm bad at (video) games so I don't play them. But I like watching other people play sometimes and have recently come across The Finals, which was fun to watch. Ok, I just googled it and apparently it came out this month. No wonder!

Chapter One [Apartment AU]

(AU where the KFC gang are inexplicably living in an apartment while facing financial ruin. Kris is 17, goes to school, and is depressed. Frisk is 19, cuts hair, and is sad sometimes. Chara is 21 and trying to cheer their little band up while desperately trying to make ends meet.)

Most weekdays were the same for Kris. Wake up at seven to the sound of Chara knocking on the closet door, sometimes with their signature ladle, calling, “Yo Kris~! It’s time to wake up~!” Kris stumbled out of their bunk in the closet, got dressed, if they had bothered to change into pajamas last night, and ate whatever breakfast Chara could manage to make. Try to get their crap together, and leave the apartment to board the bus at eight. Sleepwalk through their morning classes, straight-up sleep if they could get away with it. (They could always get away with it in history class, since Ms. Latcher was worried about them.) Eat whatever lunch Chara could throw together. Sneak into the music room to play the piano during recess, if the music teacher who hated them wasn’t around. Sit through their afternoon classes. Catch a bus to go to their work at Ice Queen and take ice-cream orders at the Drive-thru until seven-thirty, getting free ice cream privileges which served as dinner. Go home and lie low, with Chara cracking jokes, trying to cheer them up, while Frisk probably read a book. Kris scrolled on their phone, listening to video game piano tutorials, wishing they had a keyboard. ‘Going to bed’ at ten–bed being a small bunk in the closet, a spot they had chosen for privacy since the few clothes Chara and Frisk had were on the other side of the closet, with separate doors entirely, so they had some space. (Frisk and Chara squeezed on a single bed. Kris’s bunk was cramped enough that they didn’t feel guilty. Besides, Frisk and Chara were more touchy-feely than them anyway.) Rip out their cyan soul and lock it in the tiny plastic birdcage that used to hold a toy parrot when they were five. Sit in bed scrolling through social media on their phone till one or two in the morning. Finally turn off the phone and put their soul back in their body before collapsing and involuntarily passing out.

Saturdays were a bit different. Kris slept in until seven-thirty, but since the trio was in financial ruin Kris had to get up and start working at Ice Queen from eight in the morning to seven-thirty at night. On Saturdays they skipped breakfast, but had lunch plus the free ice cream, and free ice cream for dinner. This aspect was not as idyllic as it sounded. The only free ice cream available was vanilla, and it mostly just made Kris cold without filling them up much. But if they could conserve any money, they did, and tried not to tell Chara the hunger that tugged at their stomach every day. Usually they could grab some moss and eat that to tide themself over, though.

Sunday morning Kris had off. They usually slept the whole time, but if they woke up and couldn’t fall asleep they just listened to piano music, trying to stop themself from scrolling or ripping out their soul. At twelve-thirty, after lunch, they went back to Ice Queen’s and worked till six. Then again, dinner, evening, sleep.

Wash, rinse, repeat. It was routine. The cycle went on. Kris didn’t mind life much anymore, barely looking up at they performed it all like they were part of a machine. They were lucky to have Chara, anyway. Chara, who took them in even while they were in financial ruin and always tried to cheer them up while Kris just sat there blankly. Frisk was pretty chill too, and would express interest in the piano songs Kris listened to.

It was a life where they worked a lot and didn’t get much healthy relaxation, but that was just the way of the world. Or maybe they could change their lifestyle to be more feel-good, and just didn’t have the conviction.

Either way, there was no going back to their old life.

Kin Crafts for Jack Noir from Homestuck (low skill level)

1) the queens ring (⭐️): check this out. you dont even have to steal a ring when you can make one yourself. unfortunately no tutorial for this one, but its pretty easy: just get a cheap band (2-5 dollars) and some craft pearls, and glue those suckers on! [X]

2) Mini felt scottie dog (⭐️⭐️): this little guy is as simple as sewing gets. he’s made to be a brooch or pin, but you could also turn him into a keychain or a magnet! if you want to try one a bit harder, heres a full-size pattern. [X]

3) Cardboard Chess board (⭐️⭐️): with this, you control the whole battlefield. wipe out the prospit army, make your underlings dress in silly costumes, rip the board in half... anything goes. for a more complicated version, check this one out! [X]

4) Derse flag (⭐️): show your lunar pride with your own dersite banner! heres a guide to banner making in general. to make it derse, just cut out a piece of paper as a painting template for each different color. [X]

5) Checkerboard cookies (⭐️⭐️): take ultimate dominion over the battlefield by EATING IT. also tasty :) these recipes show you how to make it from scratch, but storebought mix should work too. also, heres an ice cream cake one! [X]

who is your biggest inspiration/who do you look up to when it comes to your style? I think it's very unique, also it looks like it has a touch of disney-ish traits if I'm not wrong?

OH DUDE, hitting me right in the special interest pressure point. Stop reading now if u don’t wanna hear me ramble about artists that I like ajhsjshjs (unsurprising most are Disney lol because ur right I’ve always loved the style of their films ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

Way up there is like Glen Keane, I mean I could stare at his art all day (and I do asdjsjak) to try and figure out how he makes his lines so fluid and dynamic and ahhh his art is just so satisfying to me and I've always wanted to be able to draw like that.

Another big one is Don Bluth, his films are what made me want to become an animator, I used to sit and watch them all day as a kid, and he also taught me that same face syndrome is okay asjdkfks

Recently I've been really into Brad Bird's art (The Iron Giant is the greatest animated film of all time, fight me) and like I've been eyeing the Incredibles artbook on eBay but it's like £60 and I'm like should I go for it...? is that too frivolous of a purchase...? but damn I really want it 😩 and just ugh! I love the way he designs characters, I think they look so well thought out and there's always so much personality in every design.

Minkyu Lee is an artist whose work is completely overtaking my Pinterest inspo boards, he’s an artist I really look up to and I think he’s a really good example to look at for body language and creating amazingly dynamic poses. Some of my favourite work of his is the development work he did for Disney’s Frozen, the early concepts for Anna and Kristoff’s relationship look so much more fun (not to mention the ice queen like damn 😩)

Another animator I love is Aaron Blaise, I follow him on Instagram and YouTube and I've bought a few of his animation tutorials when they've been on sale and they're REALLY helpful and Brother Bear was one of my favourite films in the world growing up (it still is tbh)

Some artists I follow on insta are people like Céline Kim and Jordi Lafebre (I recently bought his book Malgré Tout and I'm having the hardest time not projecting scotfra ajsjdjdj)

I didn't mean to go off on you there but u asked me about my special interest ajdjdjsjsj I can only apologise. I know you said inspiration singular and not plural but any chance to geek out about animators I really like I'll jump at because I never get the chance ajssjdkfgl

Also just a disclaimer, I’m not saying these are the BEST art styles, I still enjoy art that’s wildly different to these styles, I just personally happen to find these particular artist's drawings very nice to look at :)

What?? what are you doing with your magic ?

Well-

That’s mostly correct. To be specific, I’m abusing the part where not only can ones magic not affect another person, but it also cannot affect the user, what looks like freezing here is more a flexible layer of ice, almost like cloth, that’s connected to my clothes. Unfortunately, I have to continually freeze it with my magic as body heat alone would melt it, but because it always has my magic directly affecting it, It can never directly freeze me as that would be against the Mystic Rights.

It also works rather well as an environmental shield as well as a way to mostly deflect electricity as it can somewhat conduct it.

In all honesty, not many. While I received quite a few injuries, only two look like they’ll scar externally, and only one of the attacks I had to deal with put my life in serious danger.

No. That seems like a terrible gamble, besides we’re around halfway done with this anyway. I only need to last a bit longer.

No. This is a rather abnormal situation. Because the title of “Prince” is so highly coveted, and given that many were unhappy with my appointment to Duke, you can imagine the distain from some of me being Prince.

From there, I don’t know who, but someone found my blog while I was busy getting a tutorial on princely duties. They found the posts around my ice magic and even if they didn’t believe it, something like that is more than enough to start a rumor, and start a rumor it did.

Many practically rioted, claiming I wasn’t a true citizen of Stratoverse, but thankfully Queen Virga happened to be paying Amaryllis a visit the day things became really bad.

In order to quell the unrest, she declared that my position, and in turn citizenship would only be revoked when the title of Prince was stripped from me in combat. I do so wish she had worded that better.

As soon as she left, things calmed for a bit, until someone realized that the Queen had said specifically “combat” not a “duel” which meant that many people against one was technically fair.

I managed to hold my ground for around a month without reveling my abilities in earnest, but when it started becoming 6 on 1 I was forced to confirm the rumors, and now everyone knows.

This last month though was particularly bad. At some point, people stopped caring about any form of organized fight, and all joined together to chase me out, and the only solace I had was escaping to my island to rest, but they eventually found that too. I had to use hit and run tactics to hold them at bay, and it was only then I realized that if I end this M!A everything should return to how it was before I was found out.

So I made that audio post as an announcement, and to try to get a few more asks, and shortly after was...

...injured.

sigh... This is going on far too long, but anyway, no, princes normally receive very little opposition, including Prince Cirrus, as they’ve proved their strength already by receiving the title.

From Pandemic Painter to Shoreline Stoker

My Surfing Beginnings at White Plains, I still vividly remember the first time I paddled out at White Plains in Kapolei on my late Uncle Taka’s longboard. It was early 2021 and I had just taught myself to surf during quarantine as a creative outlet after months of painting ocean scenes. The wave I caught that day was messy, with seawater burning my nose each time I stumbled up too slowly. But nothing could eclipse the rush I felt gliding across that foamy surface or the pride glowing in my chest when I finally stood upright.

Surfing quickly became my pandemic salvation. I had moved back home with my parents in Ewa Beach after college, feeling directionless with my art history degree. Each evening I would study YouTube tutorials religiously, memorizing pop-up techniques frame-by-frame. By slowly progressing from kneeling to popping up each session, I built the arm strength and balance to ride properly. The ocean became my escape from stagnancy on land.

Soon I felt ready to venture beyond the beginner break at White Plains, curious if I could handle advanced waves. That first intimidating paddle into the deeper water is when I met fellow surfer Kiani Pacheco, who greeted me with a friendly shout. We struck up an instant bond and I began joining her regular crew. I learned that Kiani first started surfing nine years ago at age 19. We recently caught up to trade stories about our origins over grindz from a nearby food truck.

“Eh, I just found surfing so intriguing wen I was young,” Kiani told me between bites of shave ice. “My parents would take me and the keiki out to Waikiki whenever dey could scrap up da time. We nevah could afford lessons, but I would watch da surf teams practice fo hours. At 19, I finally just wen borrow one board and went for it. The rest stay history!"

Kiani described her start learning at Queen’s through beginner surf lessons. “I probably drank more saltwater dan I caught waves da first times, brah!” she laughed. “But moving to Oahu helped me get into da culture. Afta about three months practicing almost every day, tings started clicking.”

When I asked about her surfing goals, her face lit up. “I really like fo compete instead of just free surfing! And riding dose gigantic waves looks so gnarly!” She added earnestly, "The real ting I like do is spread aloha through my passion, yo. Surfing gives me so much happiness dat I like share."

Listening to Kiani talk story about riding waves the size of buildings at Waimea Bay, I nodded, daring to envision dat thrilling dream of myself. Our friendship forged in the surf reminds me that catching waves can connect you with so much more below da surface. I cannot wait to see what da ocean brings in of us both.

As Kiani and I sat talking story in the shade after finishing our food, I gazed out at the surfers bobbing in the churning ocean. I remarked how surfing culture has given me a sense of belonging I hadn't found since moving back home.

"That's why I love it too," Kiani nodded. "My best friends nowadays are all people I've met in the water. The surf community here shares such tight bonds."

I asked what keeps her motivated to paddle out even on days when the swell seems particularly gnarly. Kiani's eyes glinted mischievously.

"Chasing that rush! You just cannot beat the adrenaline that comes with catching a great wave or conquering a break you've been intimidated by," she explained. "It feels like the ultimate high to race across a perfect glassy wave or shoot through a barrel and make it out the other side."

As if on cue, we watched a local ripper take off across a building wave, effortlessly gliding across the face before disappearing behind the curtain of water. I whooped excitedly when he emerged crouched low on the backside and kicked out over the foamy whitewash.

"Yeah, just like that!" Kiani cheered, shaking her head of thick salt-crusted hair. “I don’t need anything fancy in life. Just some waves to surf with good friends and I’m set.”

I smiled thinking about my own goals to keep progressing, hoping someday I too could charge big swells with her crew. My passion grown from pandemic restlessness has anchored me to an amazing community. Catching my first wave that day marked the start of a lifelong journey. As Kiani and I parted ways to head back out to the water, I said a silent mahalo to the ocean that brought us together.
