News about Julia's treatment: Julia since January 3 is being treated in a clinic in Europe. Doctors were able to find the causes and diagnosis. Timing of treatment were extended. Now it is planned that Julia will be in the clinic until April. 😭😭 End of the season for our princess.

AU: ice dance (A/N: I’ve gotten two figure skating AU requests for two different ships since I posted this, what are the odds? :p) for @sofileall

Summary: neither Katara nor Zuko has any desire to team up when their previous ice dance partnerships fall through. But that may not be a terrible thing...

Word Count: 690

Katara pasted on what she hoped was a convincingly professional smile, praying it would be enough to hide the way her stomach was churning at the thought of skating with him.

“Is there anyone else I could skate with?” she’d begged her coaches when they proposed the tryout, but they’d shaken their heads. This was likely the best she’d be able to do after her previous ice dance partner had announced an early retirement to join the Peace Corps (the thought of which never failed to make Katara’s head spin, because they’d been up-and-coming stars and that was why he’d quit?), and if she wanted to remain competitive, this was how things would have to go.

And their tryout had only nailed the coffin shut. Her (their) coaches hadn’t stopped jabbering about their “balance” and “chemistry” and “compatibility” (Katara had wanted to badly to protest but known she couldn’t) since they first stepped on the ice together, and there was truly no escape now.

So she turned to Zuko and tried not to show just how much she wished she could storm out of the rink in a huff.

“So, have you had any thoughts about our music choices for next season?” she asked, her voice so forced-polite that she knew it was coming off as simpering. “We really need-“

“Actually, I do.” Zuko’s arms were crossed defensively and he wouldn’t even look at her. It was almost a relief to see that he wasn’t making a secret of the fact that he found this situation unideal. “For the short dance, I was thinking-“

“Definitely something romantic!” their head choreographer, Pakku, cut in. “We have to capitalize on that chemis-“

“NO!” both Katara and Zuko interjected, near-identical looks of horror crossing their faces. Katara managed a quick glance at Zuko and found that his face had gone beet-red. She imagined hers might be, too.

“Pakku, give them a break.” Their coach Iroh (Zuko’s uncle, a legendary former skater in his own right, and the reason Zuko had gotten his start in the sport), standing at the boards, mercifully intervened. “But Katara, Zuko - you can not deny that it’s one of your strengths and it would be a waste not to play it up.”

Katara wondered, not for the first time, how her deep-rooted desire to stab her new partner with her skate - which appeared to be mutual - came across as “chemistry.” But if that was what the judges were going to see, Katara grudgingly admitted to herself that they’d better go with it if it meant good scores.

“Okay,” Zuko said cautiously, seemingly having come to the same conclusion. “But what do you mean by that?”

“It doesn’t have to be romantic,” Piandao, another of their coaches, cut in with a glare in Pakku’s direction. “Tell whatever story you want to tell. If you want to hate each other? So be it, as long as you make the tension look real.”

At that, Katara’s face broke into a mile-wide grin. “Wait, we can do that?”

It was a simple suggestion, but she’d never had a choreographer permit it before. When she’d skated with Aang, their music choices had been all soft classical music or syrupy love ballads and, the one season that their coaching team had felt particularly bold, a medley of jazzy Broadway classics. There had been no edge to any of their selections and they’d been told to play up the innocence and longing with which people had long associated them in their programs. But getting to channel the tension she felt whenever she skated with Zuko (whether because she couldn’t stand him, because they’d been rivals when she was still skating with Aang and he with Mai, or because he was unfairly gorgeous, she didn’t know) into a program where she didn’t have to pretend to be in love with him? Her mind raced with possibilities. A tango danced by sworn enemies, rivals fighting their own attraction to each other as they feuded...

She glanced over at Zuko. “What do you think?”

For the first time since they’d been paired up, Zuko smiled. “I think that’s perfect.”

Anyone who thinks Victor wasn’t a virgin before Yuuri is a fool. Sure he acts all charming and suave, but you have to remember that Victor is 27 years old and has been dedicated to ice skatinf for his entire life.

Ice skating isn’t just a sport, it’s a lifestyle. He probably barely finished high school, maybe was homeschooled or just got his GED, and probably didn’t bother going to college, because you can get your degree whenever, but at 27, Victor is basically a dinosaur. Ice skating dictates your entire day, what you eat, where you go, the people you interact with. Victor isnt the living legend because he skips out on practices; he’s the best of the best because he spends hours at the rink, every day of the week, and when he’s not there, he’s cross-training with yoga or ballet or pilates or some combination of the tree, or dealing with sponsors, or a number of other things to put him into tip top shape to be Victor Nikiforov, the Living Legend.

Tldr; Victor Nikiforov sold his soul to the ice long ago, and probably had few, if any, relationships or lovers that also probably didn’t last long given his wholehearted devotion to skating.

Now Yuuri, on the otherhand... He’s dedicated his life to ice skating, too, there’s no doubt about that. But he also spent four years away from home, in a foreign country, at an American college. Also his best friend was Phichit, so you cannot tell me Yuuri didn’t get dragged to college parties. Yuuri isn’t an extrovert, but he doesn’t seem to have an issue talking to people. And when he’s drunk, he clearly goes wild and lets go of his inhibitions. Source: Episode 10 of the show. The guy was drunk off his ass and resorted to pole dancing and grinding on Viktor, the subject of his affections since he was a kid.

Tldr; Yuuri was probably a hoe in college, Victor probably never had a real relationship before Yuuri, and I am soft for these boys.

I lowkey feel like my love for skating is dying down quick and it honestly makes me so sad. It's just that I used to skate a lot, but now I stopped doing competitions and it's summer which means my normal ice rink is closed to I have to go to a far one and honestly, I don't have the time and like without comps theres really no reason for me to go to camps either and idk it's sad really because I feel like I don't even miss it that much
