pandora's vault as a point-and-click horror game.

the objective is always at the top of your screen: "get the revival book." you can access a map that will take you to a few different places on the server, but once you click on the prison, the map icon only appears when you're near the entrance. when you get further in, you're trapped.

you can go to the arctic. philza is there, always peaceful and always sewing, sitting on a nice rocking chair. you can present items to him and he'll give you some clues about how to use it. you have a hunger bar, and if you're low, you can get food from him. technoblade is in the background, cooking. you can't interact with him.

you can stop by some other places too, like mcpuffys, and get a burger if you gather enough gold to buy it.

wandering the prison is confusing. it's a maze, and the more you click, the more the prison shifts. interact with too many items that make a lot of noise and you'll upset sam, and he'll kill you quickly. the warden walks in a pre-determined circle around the prison, and you can't interrupt him unless you have an item that interests him. following him is your best bet to navigate the prison, but he's hard to track. you have to learn his pattern.

take too long, and the prison shifts faster. doors close on their own.

you can summon technoblade once to save you from sam. he'll buy you time and de-aggro sam, but then he disappears, and you'll see him in the background with philza again when you tp there.

make too many mistakes, and you'll be transported to the main cell.

dream is there, starved and thin. he's curled into himself. hover your cursor over him and he'll kill you-- he doesn't want to be seen.

you have to be patient. keep your cursor on the wall. wait. eventually, dream says "...what do you want?" and a dialogue options shows up. he'll chat, but he won't give up the revival book. you click everywhere. you find no way out. new objective: "get out alive."

there are different items you can collect on your way to the cell that will affect your chances. you can gather food from chests you find, but you should preserve them and give some to dream to get on his good side. if you present shears, he'll kill you, no matter how good you're doing with him. you can collect status effects, and if you get "sir," he'll obey faster. but he's never particularly helpful.

the screen flashes into images of blood and gore across the cell.

try to kill dream, and sam stops you. you hear dream sigh.

really, the key is endurance. you have to make sure you have enough resources when you enter the cell to stay on dream's good side and survive until sam decides to let you out. a bit of experimentation.

or, if you make it to the main cell without sam putting you there, you can get out at will. but that's very difficult, and you won't achieve that your first run, but the status effects help. you'll gather more of those as you play. with "sir," sam gets less agitated with you.

get dream's favor, and you get a new objective: "get both of us out alive"

there's an item called "hope"-- a stuffed cat. if you present it to philza, he'll say "…someone else could use this more, mate. you shouldn't leave it here with me."

get back to the main cell.

What do you want to do with "Hope"?

you can also keep with the first objective, if you want. you can go in every day, if you want. you can gather weapons and shears and experiment with how dream responds, if you want. perhaps, somewhere in the code, there's a way for you to get that book. maybe THAT'S your good end.

Whatever mechanism causes him to respawn doesn't despawn the corpses so there's just a pile of about twenty tiny skeletons (Jesus always comes back as a scaled-down adult human in the manner of medieval icon paintings) in progressively less advanced states of decay under the foundations of a football stadium in the suburbs of modern Nazareth.

Respawning events do not follow a clear mathematical pattern but can be discerned by chaotic clattering and rattling noises under the pitch. One such event in 2003 disrupted a game between Maccabi Akhi Nazareth Football Club and Hapoel Acre, causing the ball to hover over the grounds and respond unpredictably to kicks, mildly injuring several players in what was initially believed to be a freak atmospheric event. The pile of skeletons has been inferred from ultrasonic and radar investigation of the site following the incident. Known locally as the "Field of Dreams Incident" in reference to the largely unrelated supernatural Kevin Costner baseball vehicle, the 2003 event is believed to have served as the inspiration for a story arc of the manga Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and a never-filmed sequel to the film National Treasure

gradient text tutorial

This tutorial is for @ladynephthyss but y’all can have it too xD

We’ll be adding text so the final gif looks like this:

This tutorial assumes basic knowledge of gif-making, Photoshop, and coloring. I’ve only described the text tutorial in this.

Couple things to note beforehand:

There is a lot of trial and error involved when doing any sort of text, and this is no exception! You might have to play around with the colors and the settings before you find something that looks good and readable!

This tutorial is inspired by the difference text effect in these tutorials: one and two by @anya-chalotra (highly recommend checking those out!), just done a different way.

This text effect works better on big gifs (540px width) that have quite a bit of movement below the text so you get that effect.

Find fonts that have bold shapes or some width to them, so you can see the movement.

This is my starting gif, after sharpening and coloring.

First, I position my text where I want it. (this can be moved around later, I just like to get an idea). Remember what I said about fonts? Try to use ones that are thick for this effect so you can see the gradient/movement underneath the letters. I’m using Intro.

It doesn’t matter what color the text is at this stage, I just do white text so I can see it:

Then, add a gradient map in the color you want your text to be. For this one, I chose black and purple. The more contrast there is in your colors, the better it looks. You’ll be able to change this later though, if you don’t like the way it looks.

This is how it looks with the gradient map:

Now, we’re going to go over into our layers panel, and where we have the white box (the layer box), we’re going to select and delete that...

...so it looks like this:

Then, while pressing Ctrl, we’re going to hover our mouse over the T in our text layer. Your cursor should show a white box with a dotted border. Press the T in the text with the specialized cursor, and you should get a dotted line all around the letters, like so:

(I’m not able to get a screenshot of the cursor for some reason but I hope the instruction made it clear!)

Then, make sure you have your gradient map layer selected, and press the layer mask button (shown by a white arrow in the below image - it looks like a white rectangle with a black circle in the middle.)

This is what it should look like:

Right now, it’ll look like some solid color (which depends on your gradient). This is because we still have the text layer visible. Once we press the eye icon next to the actual text layer to hide it, you can see that this is what it looks like:

(You can also delete the text layer, but I don’t, just because if I decide to put these two words on two lines, or change their spacing or whatever, I don’t want to have to make a new layer. I can just edit that one before re-masking.)

As you play your gif, you’ll see that this is what the whole movement looks like:

You can see that the movement of him lifting the glass to drink his tea shows through the text, too. Almost like a weird color X-ray type thing, where the lighter color shows on darker shades of the gif, and the darker color shows on the lighter part of the gif.

Note: sometimes, depending on the way your gradient is made, you might get text that looks like the picture below. Just hit the reverse button (shown with a white arrow), and you should get the text looking like it does above.

This is the basic way to do it. Now, we can easily edit this, if we feel like there’s too much purple and not enough black. To do that, we go into the gradient, and change the slider positions of the colors. This is purely an aesthetic preference, but I’ll show you how to do it below:

For example, I moved those sliders so there’s more black and less purple, and the gradient feels more like two colors only, instead of all the various hues of dark purple/gray-purple.

This is what the gif looks like:

In the gif before this one, the black was more of a muted gray. In the one directly above, you can see that it looks much more striking. So play around with that until you find something you like.

It still doesn’t look very visible to me, so I’m going to add a drop shadow underneath (again, this is a preference thing). You’d do it just like you would with a regular text layer. Right click the Gradient Map layer and select Blending Options. Add a drop shadow.

This is what mine looks like:

And that’s it! You can keep playing around with the whole thing until you’re happy with it. You can even keep changing the color, and the great thing about that is you’ll be able to preview it as you change it to see what works with your scene. For example, I tried white and black text here:

Hello all! In preparation for the Steam Release, I've been making some quality of life adjustments to The Case of the Serialized Killer! Version 1.2 is mostly the same as original, but has a few changes:

Script Edits! A couple mechanics have been clarified a bit, and there have been a few bits and bobs added.

Navigation through the mansion is now done via map! This comes into play when Hawley and Harry are first exploring, and then again during the investigation section in the second half of the game,

Sound Effects have been added to the journal, and the page corners now visually highlight when you hover over them,

A few more sound effects in general have been added to the game,

The alerts when Hawley writes a note are much clearer now; the sound effect is louder, and the journal icon blinks for a moment,

Hawley's imp section has had a couple graphical edits,

Sprites auto-highlight when characters are talking,

Minor menu touch-ups,

Additional CGs! We got as much art into the original as we could, but it was somewhat lacking in the CG department. There are now four more CGs, including one in the true end!

There’s a new banner promoting Ad-Free Browsing on web.

In the beta post editor on web, you can now click anywhere in an image to drag and rearrange it within the post. No need to click the little drag handle icon.

🛠 Fixed

The new banner promoting Ad-Free Browsing initially could not be dismissed on mobile web. We fixed that up.

In the iOS app, posts with community labels will now show the community label header so you can see which label has been applied, even if you have your community labels settings set to “Show.”

When accessing the Support form from the iOS app, the text cursor is now visible.

The aforementioned crash in the iOS app has been fixed. Update to version 26.6 for the fix to take effect.

Fixed an issue that caused the Tumblr logo on a blog’s Blaze page (e.g. tumblr.com/blog/changes/blaze) to have a dark background when hovering over it.

Made some improvements to how focused blocks appear in the beta post editor on web.

The pop-up for adding alt text now uses your chosen palette colors more consistently.

When pasting some text with a link into the beta post editor on web, you can now edit that link.

The “back” icon on /archive pages was very difficult to see because it was a dark icon on a dark background. We made the icon lighter so it stands out more.

Fixed an issue that caused the aria label for the “post now” button to use a general class name (nonsense string of letters).

The drag handle icon on images within the beta post editor on web was difficult to see when using a dark palette. It’s now more visible.

- You can add little emoji reactions to posts!

- There’s 7 base reactions: bug, cheese, crab, four (this one’s noisy), ghost, horse (this one’s noisy), and socks

(Hovering over them causes a small black speech bubble to appear above them, saying the words transcripted above, in lowercase. The parenthesis for horse and four are included in their respective bubbles.)

- You can add them to the post in whichever order you’d like (reblogs seem to reorganize them though, in another order than the one shown above), and they’ll appear without any number on them. Once you’ve clicked on them once, they’ll count two clicks.

- Clicking on a reaction multiple times in a row makes a black circle appear above it with the number of clicks written on it. The number progresses as you click more as long as there's not significant interruption and the bubble grows with each click. I can only assume it has a maximum size and it unlocks something, but i've gone up to roughly 1700 in one go and i don't want to figure out autoclickers so somebody else is gonna have to find that out.

- It also activates the effects of each reaction.

- Bug does nothing but backflips, and stops at 70 458, the amount of votes it got in the original bug race poll

- Crab dances side to side and stops at 1000

- 4 makes speech bubbles written 4 appear. Various voices saying the word four in different languages play after about a dozen clicks, all of them very whispery, except one, saying four in a very casual tone. It stops at 444

- Ghost makes post go progressively transparent and stops at 666

- Horse makes the horsie go (circular motion as a running horse would move) and plays galloping sounds. It stops at 500

- Sock makes green stink lines appear on your post and rise up until they fade away, stops at 1000

- Maxing out a reaction or using it a certain number of times makes bonus reactions appear. Here’s all of them in one picture, all of them maxed out (at least the humanly possible ones)

- Moon appears when you max out 4 and stops at 223

- Vanilla appears when clicking a lot on the crab (over 100 times?) and stops at 999

- Pikaman appears for some mysterious reason idk, jump and loops when you hover over it, stops at 19. After further investigation, it seems to either have multiple different but very convoluted ways to summon it, or to simply be on a randomizer. I still don’t have autoclick, sue me. After further explaining from the brick himself, Pikaman allgedly appears after a certain number of bug reactions. Either this number is inconsistent or another randomized action/combination of factors is needed to activate Pikaman.

- Unicorn appears when you max out the horse reaction, jumps and loops like pikaman, and stops at 7

- Cookie appears when you click a lot (over 100?) on the vanilla and stops at 999

- Brick appears either when everything is maxed out and both bug and cheese have hit 1000 or when you combo 1000 clicks in a row (on bug or cheese likely but might be achievable on crab or sock), is unclickable

- When you hit the maximum of a reaction on a streak, a message signed by Brick appears to tell you you can't go further

- I have somehow gotten an error message signed by Brick. No idea how to replicate it. Editing after further testing, it seems to appear when the movement of the emoji makes clicking it impossible (the no symbol being visible) despite the maximum number not being reached.

- The share button gives you a reblogging page with a generated image representing the reactions used on it and their corresponding numbers over a rainbow gradient background, as well as a little flavor text tagging @brickwhartley and two automatic tags. You’re free to modify this reblog though, and you can back out of the page.

TL;DR this was made up by manufacturers to sell more computer mouses. Hope you don’t have completionist tendencies. My hand hurts.
